We have classified the 156 complaints from 2011 Ford Fusion about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The vehicles wiring is heating up and i'm concerned it may start a fire, also the car occasionally turns off by itself, i would like to to know if there is a recall on my vehicle, please reach out to me as soon as possible.
Burnt tail light sockets some melting as well because the bulb was stuck inside socket
Went to town and parked the car went in to the store and when i started to leave i noticed that the power steering didn't work. i drove the car home with no power steering. it's a good thing this didn't happen while going the speed limit. the dealer said that this is a common problem my question is why has it not been recalled if it's a common problem.
A wrench lite up on my car ad my check engine light came on while driving and your slows down while driving and you can not get your car to go. i had to stop and restart my car 4 times within 40 miles. this needs to be a safety recall. i had kids in my car and i live 40 miles out of town. i got really scared and did not know what is going on. i am not paying a mechanic to fix this when ford knows it is a problem. ford needs to pay to have this fixed. if this does not get fixed free of charge i will never buy a ford again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was a failure in which the vehicle experienced intermittent stalling. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure, although they had been notified several times. the vehicle continued to stall and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the throttle body, but the contact was uncertain if the oem part would fail again. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no recommendation nor a solution. there was no clarification if there was a newly designed part or the same part that had previously failed. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
Twice now my vehicle has lost power steering while driving. the lights suddenly come on saying "service power steering now" "service advancetrac". the first time this happened they were able to reset the computer stating it was an issue with the electronic computer. now it has happened again and it is completely unsafe. this is not the only electrical issue i have had with this car. about a year ago the electronic throttle body sensor went on it. this was an intense safety problem that was thankfully recalled. ford really needs to realize the implications of electronic issues in this vehicle. *tr
When turning on the vehicle, i get a "power steering assist fault" error message. the car loses power steering and i am not able to turn the wheel. *tr
The hvac blower relay or controller overheated and began smoking melting the housing for the wiring. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that the service engine and the wrench warning lights illuminated intermittently. in addition, the vehicle stalled several times without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 53,000. updated 6/30/15*cn updated 9/18/15*js
Power steering assist fault. over the last 3 months, have had multiple random power steering assist faults. by shutting down vehicle and restarting, these have cleared in the past, but on nov.2, 2014, upon start of vehicle, power steering assist fault occurred and would not clear. was forced to drive car home without power steering and almost crashed multiple times. in addition, this fault sometimes has occurred at same time as advancetrac warning. appears that whatever electrical device is failing is related to both systems. *tr
I got in my car after work and there was dinging and a notification appeared on the dash that my power steering needed service now. i could not move my wheel or steer at all. after taking it in to the service station i was told the my electronic steering gear had malfunctioned, i believe they referred to it as the epas system. it is a complete malfunction of the power steering system and i am lucky that i was not driving the vehicle when it went out. *tr
Driving to the store power steering just went out know warning. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that the low tire pressure indicator illuminated and the power steering malfunctioned. the contact had to exert excessive force to turn the steering wheel. the dealer stated that the computer had to be reprogrammed and reset. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.
This happened to me on multiple occasions where i will be driving and my car just looses power and the throttle wont work. i have been lucky enough not to have been in an accident but have almost been in two because of the problem. i have to pull over and shut the car off for a couple of minutes before i can start it back up and when i try to start it back up it has a hard time starting. *tr
Driving to work 25 mph and suddenly my power steering went out, then the traction control system(tsc) lights went on. *tr
Message regarding engine function
My daughter was driving my car and all of a sudden power steering and advance trac system light displays on the dash, cut the car off and restarted no change. with all these complaints i pray that for do something about this, now my car is outside in the parking lot, not sure if im going to be able to pay to get it fix bc i was just laid off my job. *tr
Pulled from a red light and car started shaking vigorously. pulled over safely into a parking light and a wrench lit up on the dash board. took it to a near by auto parts store, clerk scanned it and said it was a throttle body malfunction. *tr
My 16 teen year old son was driving, he is only on a learners permit when the lights and chimes went off and he lost power steering. it took me and him to pull it off the road. thank god he was on a straight away! shut the car off and it reset. next day i am driving 50 mph when i loose power steering i manage to stop and pull off to the side of the road. tried the turn off trick and did not work. husband took battery cable off for 15 min, still no luck. now it sits, it is not safe to drive, you need two people to turn the car! *tr
After stopping at a stop sign, when i pushed the accelerator, the vehicle jerked and would not accelerate past the idle drive speed; a wrench light displayed on the dash; i slowly maneuvered into a parking lot. after restarting the vehicle, i managed to get home and drive the car for several days without issue. a quick internet search led me to suspect the throttle body. on about july 29th, the same thing happened. i pulled to the side of the parking lot that i was in and restarted the vehicle. on the morning of july 31st, as i put it in park at my place of employment, the vehicle stalled (the engine stopped and rpm display showed 0) and the battery light and oil lamp light displayed. the vehicle started right back up. upon leaving my place of employment, the vehicle stalled four additional times within the 9 miles between work and the nearest auto parts store. the employee stated that the affected part was the "throttle body" just as i had found before. *tr
On june 27, 2014 i took my car to a dealership for a recall to reprogram it. on july 14, 2014, my car just stopped running while i was driving. after several attempts, it did restart after i turned off the air conditioner and radio. the next day i brought it into the dealership once again. the service person told me the same thing happened to several other customers after the initial recall and that now the throttle body needed to be replaced. when i asked why that wasn't replaced when it was reprogrammed, he said ford told them to wait until the second problem occurred before replacing it. my concern is safety. had my car stopped running on a busy highway going a higher speed limit, i might have been killed. i called ford customer service and was given a case number and told this would be "looked into." how many might die before this recall will be done properly? *tr
Power steering failed numerous times, the latest of which was today. usually it happens when just departing the driveway, but it once happened while moving on a street - it's scary. i understand the power steering is electrical. i had to replace the battery a couple months ago and i thought that might have taken care of the problem, but it has recurred within the last couple of weeks. i bought the car used and purchased the extended warranty which is still in effect, but the dealer was unable to replicate the problem so no cure was able to be undertaken. the dealer said if we wanted to, they could replace the steering mechanism for about $2,000 which we declined. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving at low speeds, the steering wheel seized and the battery warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the contact stated that the heated seats failed without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer numerous times where the failure was not duplicated. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
Sudden loss of power steering while stopped in traffic..resolved on restart...3rd such incident over the last several months...other incidents of power steering loss have occurred while at freeway speeds and also while waiting at stop lights...resolves on restart...restarts at less than 30 seconds after the failures will not set trouble codes, so that diagnosis is not possible... *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of power; however, it still had some electrical function. prior to the failure, the vehicle was remedied under ford's customer satisfaction program 13n03, but the failure recurred. the throttle body was replaced and the vehicle was reprogrammed three times. the failure occurred seven times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 38,500.
Power steering assist faults out. have to turn the car off and turn back on. very dangerous. has happened 3 times now. *tr
While driving along the highway my gauges on the instrument panel went out momentarily, and then came back on with the message "service advancetrac." i didn't think much about it because it went away when i turned my car off and back on. a couple weeks later (starting june 16th) the instrument panel kept going out every time i drove the vehicle, and multiple messages came up in the message center about getting my brake system checked and all four tire pressures were low. along with these other message center malfunctions, the anti-theft security system was malfunctioning and not recognizing either key i have for the car. a couple of times it took 20 minutes of trying and hoping to get the vehicle to recognize the key. i took it in to the dealership, and now i have to pay $2000 to get my power steering module replaced. i am completely disappointed that my 2011 ford needs to have its power steering replaced at not even 60000 miles. *tr
The power steering is not working.the vehicle is hard to make turns. i only had this car almost 3 years and i purchased it used. the power steering is gone and i have seen a lot of complaints about this model with power steering problems. i know there should be some kind of recall on this vehicle. i can not afford to have this fixed. i am hoping that you all will check into this. it is unsafe. i am considering the news about this because i keep getting the run around. i love my car and i just can't afford to have it fixed because of this mechanical problem.
While driving to work all of a sudden my advance trac light went on and there was no steering at all. all the lights went dead and i had to stop in the middle of the street. i tried to get the car to the side of the road before stopping but wasn't able to maneuver it, it was too hard to steer. after stopping short i finally was able to force the steering wheel to turn and moved to the side of the road. i read the manual and it said turn off the car and restart, i did and nothing happened. i called aaa and they towed me to ford in toms river, nj. it cost me $2,152.14 for the steering rack to be replaced as well as having my car for 6 days and having to rent a car for additional costs. *tr
Something to do with the electrical in the power steering. *tr
Pulled out of a parking lot onto a main street when vehicle lost all power. it was dark and the car is black and i feared someone would hit me since the hazard flashers were now inoperative. vehicle had to be pushed onto a side road. a similar incident occurred in july 2013 but the vehicle was in the garage at the time so it wasn't a safety issue. at that time the dealer installed a new battery since the original had so much corrosion that it ate away at the positive battery post. i no longer feel safe driving this car and will be contacting the dealer tomorrow. *tr
I started the car up and a warning read power steering assist fault. restarted the car and no progressive . a little over two weeks later, i started the car and it then read service advancetrac in addition to previous warning. *tr
Was driving and pulled up to a stop light and noticed a foul smell that smelled like brakes from vehicle next to me. pulled into my work and the smell got really strong and i noticed some smoke starting to roll from the trunk of my car. i opened the trunk to find that the trunk had caught fire. i was able to put the fire out but the whole light assembly had been burned along with some wiring and the molding that houses the light assemblies. recall issued for ford taurus but not fro fusion with same bad parts. *tr
While driving our car, my wife (along with my 9 month old baby girl) experienced a sudden loss of power and shaking engine. the car was not drivable so she pulled onto a side street and parked the car, leaving them stranded. no engine warning lights ever came on. this is exactly as described (minus the lack of check engine light) in the "ford customer satisfaction program 13n03" letter that we received a few months ago. this is an intermittent problem, so we were able to take the car in to the ford dealer. our local ford dealer was not able to pull a code as the check engine light never came on. the dealer, and ford customer service, refuse to replace the throttle body until the code for malfunctioning throttle body is read. my wife and infant daughter must now drive around (twice a day, 5 days a week) waiting for it to fail again, and take the car to the dealer at the time of malfunction. this is a major safety concern as the car will barely move and shakes so badly. it should not be driven across the city to the dealership in this condition, especially with a baby in the car. ford needs to recall these parts and replace them all to stop putting customers in danger with cars that barely move. as for the "customer satisfaction program"? not feeling very satisfied at all... *tr
my wife, [xxx], was driving our fusion. she had traveled approx. 1/4 mile and was approaching a stop sign at bayside dr. newport beach,ca at the harbor is. dr. intersection. suddenly, the car accelerated, catching her by surprise she went through the intersection and was narrowly missed by two oncoming cars. she told me later that it happened a second time on the freeway (she was on her way home) but was not in immediate danger when it occurred. we have traveled these streets several times. had just left the restaurant where we had lunch....was riding my bicycle home and watched her go through the intersection....very scary!! note: the throttle positioner was replaced on this vehicle a couple months ago. it had failed to 5mph. villa ford in orange ca did the repair. 2011 ford fusion. consumer writes in regards to throttle body customer satisfaction program recall notice. *smd
2011 ford fusion lost power and stalled and found out that the electrical throttle body needed to be replaced for a cost of 500.94 by a mechanic because it is not covered by ford even thought there are many complaints about this bad part in the fusions. there should be a recall on this and/or reimbursement for getting it fixed. only had the car 6 months with less than 28k miles on it. *tr
Battery, starter and flywheel. flywheel missing teeth possibly after failed battery. originally my car was jump started by aaa 01/2014 due to battery failure. was advised to get battery replaced. which was reluctantly replaced by ford at 36,805 01/2014. unfortunately, this may have triggered a noise that i ignored for a time, where when the car would start sometimes it would make a loud noise. it was not every start, but it did become increasingly pronounced. in may i finally went back to the dealer who said i had teeth missing from the starter and fly wheel and that it was my fault for trying to start the car while it was running (though my car has the start lockout feature). the dealer wanted over $1700 to replace flywheel and starter. opened a case with ford and they covered the majority of the repair, leaving me with about a $450 deductible. after the repair was approved, dealer re-classified the problem as the starter staying engaged which distorted the flywheel. i raise this case, because i think perhaps the failed battery could have been the cause, but further the replacement battery failed again in 6/25/2017, which i replaced again. on my 3rd battery. may be worth noting that my vehicle is equipped with integrated navigation system and display. could battery failure also be the source of repeated fan blower motor issue?
Battery goes dead after sitting a few days. possible sign of electric throttle body failure.!!??? battery replaced twice in 4 months, charges normally. while looking for possible electrical problems associated with the 2011 fusion (11k miles) i discovered there is many, many people complaining of throttle body failure. i went to the local dealer and called ford and asked them to replace the throttle body and trace the electrical problem. i was told that they would only honor their "customer satisfaction program" concerning the throttle body if it fails!!!!!! i explained that i was afraid to drive the vehicle and if they had an updated throttle body and "limp home" update they should install it and make corrections. a call to ford and they refused to fix the potentially deadly problem. so what recourse is there?? my fusion and f-350 are both headed for trade at a no nonsense dealer. lacrosse and silverado, here i come!!!!!!! i suggest you do something similar. *tr
Began having problems with this vehicle the second month after purchase. the first incident was steering wheel locked and i could not control the direction of the car. i ended up on the left side of the road off the shoulder before i could stop it. it happened on several occasions. car dies for no reason. i end up having it towed or restarted by charging battery. the battery always has a full charge. also i have been shopping and get in the car to start it and it will not start. door handles would not work from inside. windows would not open. had to force window down enough to open from the outside. had front door handle assemble replaced had transfer case resealed horrible smell, new tires 3 times since it was purchased had rear drive shaft replaced, fuel pump replaced had taken it to ford just recently for what i deemed was computer problems, of course they could not find anything wrong. i was told by my mechanic the last time i had new tires put on the car that i would need new rims soon. the rims are eroding from the inside out. i have several invoices for work that was done and a few more i can't locate at this time. i would like to send them all to you. purchase car 12/1/12.
The error occurred as i was driving on a major 8-lane highway. i was about a quarter-mile from my exit (after being on the highway for 60 miles) when i felt a "clunk" and an orange-lit wrench appeared on my dash. as i turned onto the exit ramp, i slowed to a stop at a stop-light, waiting to turn left. while the brake was depressed, the car was attempting to move forward very abruptly, as part of it's "limp home" feature. when the light turned green, i released the brake and attempted to accelerate through the intersection, but pressing the gas pedal produced no response from the car. after limping through the intersection, i shifted the car into park and turned the engine off. after waiting 10-15 seconds, i restarted the car and the throttle issue and dash light were both gone. i have since driven ~100 miles without seeing the issue re-appear. *tr
I was driving downtown and next thing i know my wrench light comes on and i lose all power to my ford fusion. i was scared because i didn't know what was going on. i couldn't do anything until i pulled off the road and shut my car off and restarted it. this problem has happened to me multiple times within the past 3 weeks. i would have to say its happened at least 15 times in those 3 weeks. i am starting to get annoyed with this problem because i took the car to the dealership and they constantly tell me nothing is wrong with my car, yet i know there is definitely something wrong. the problem happened again on 11/26/2013 and when it did my check engine light came on with the wrench light so i took it to autozone for them to check the engine light code and the code was p2111 and the description it gave was that the throttle actuator control system was stuck open. i now have proof to take to the ford dealership that something is wrong with the car. they better fix this problem! *tr
I was driving on the highway at about 65mph, i began to exit and came down to 40. once i started to slow down i felt the car tug, it was odd because it had never done that before but i finished exiting and tried to pick up speed again but couldn't. the rpm went down, wrench signal came out on dash, i pushed on the gas and nothing, it did not have anymore power. luckily there were many businesses to my right to where i was able to park safely, if i was still on the highway while this happened i could have easily been rear ended or worse because the car slowed on its own and i was unable to control the gas. as i pulled over the car began to shake, i turned it off quickly and called for help. a relative came to my aid to check it out but we couldn't find anything visible, we cautiously turned the vehicle back on and the wrench signal turned off, no more shaking, it was odd that it just completely lost power a few minutes prior and now it was back to normal. we drove it around the parking lot to test it, didn't want to leave it behind due to the area and possibility of theft, also could not afford a wrecker to pick it up. i ended up heading back home with my relative behind me. it was very uncomfortable, i'm so glad it was myself and not my wife and kids as this is her vehicle. i know they are numerous knows issues on the throttle body with this vehicle. it is sad that it has not been recalled yet, please take a stand and do not wait until somebody is seriously injured or worse. *tr
Lucky me, i happened to have two of these failed designed vehicles. my wife has a 2010 that developed throttle body problems at 35000 miles and now mine at 87500 miles. the 2010 left her stranded with zero engine power, in the middle of busy roads a total of two times before the dealership (palm coast ford) on the third visit decided that just cleaning and spraying down the failing hardware didn't cut it and finally put a new one on, luckily still under warranty. the mechanic did however say that this is a common occurrence for these ford products and that the same thing would probably happen to the throttle body he just put on. why ford did not fix the problem sooner at that point in time? my guess, not enough people had a direct link to their death from car accidents at that point in time! 20,000 miles later so far no other problems. now my 2011 fusion is a manual 6 speed. when my throttle body failed this morning while going to work i noticed that while in cruise control the speed was pulsing down and up around two mph. this would happen for a short time and then stop and be functioning properly for a while and then do it again. finally at a light i noticed the idle up and down and after accelerating to 60 it suddenly went to idle of 900 rpm. no power from the engine. you could floor it and nothing. well once again like many others that have had the same ford failure experience i almost was hit by another vehicle because of no where to pull over. i will purchase the part and replace it myself. i thought i would give ford a try again from years ago when i had a lynx that caught on fire, and a taurus sho ...
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the battery cable assembly was burned, causing five fuses to malfunction. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileage was 51,960. updated 01/07/14*lj updated 1/17/2014 *js
While driving at all times, the vehicle would start to surge and buck then loose power. it never completely died but when i pulled over it ran terrible and would not accelerate. i turned it off for a few seconds and restarted it. it would run for a while, good, then the problem would reoccur. the engine light came on, i had the code checked. the result was a faulty throttle body or sort in the throttle body module. *tr
Was traveling 45 mph wrench light came on and stalled. *tr
My wife had my 6 month old sign in the backseat when she was pulling out from a stop sign into a 4way when the car lurched and the accelerator quit responding in the middle of the street a truck nearly t boned her on the driver side where our son was in his car seat upon diagnostics the electronic throttle body was stuck open. i've found similar issues with similar vehicles although the dealership informed me my vehicle is not currently on a recall list. *tr
This has happened multiple times varying from accelerating from a stop to highway speeds of 60+ mph. 2011 ford fusion sel suddenly loses all power and wrench icon illuminates and no acceleration happens at all. the engine remains at idle with fluctuations from 800-1200 rpms. had to cross multiple lanes and was almost ran into by three cars going a lot faster than me while i was listing to the emergency lane. once car is turned off and restarted the problem will go away. after much research and the one time it showed a check engine light i ran the codes and it all was pointing to a defective throttle body. i noticed that there are a lot of complaints with this aspect on this car and just hope someone doesn't have to get killed on the road like i almost did to get a recall on this car and part. *tr
On september 15, 2013 i was driving on a major surface street at approximately 35 miles per hour when the car just stopped working. completely powerless. i saw two lights on the dashboard: the battery and the oil. there may have been more but i was more focused on safety and oncoming traffic than the lights on the dash. i decided not to take a chance of getting rear ended (injured or killed) so at the first big break in traffic i safely exited the vehicle and walked over to the sidewalk (one lane over). a local apartment resident saw the incident and grabbed a safety cone to put behind my car as a warning. thankfully there were no accidents but there were some close calls and last minute lane changes as drivers came upon my car. i called ford roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck to get the vehicle. it started up perfectly for the driver, but i had it towed anyway. it has been at the dealer for two days. they have been unable to duplicate the situation and have received no "codes" to indicate a problem with the vehicle. they have called ford to ask for assistance and ford has asked them questions regarding lights going on, my speed at the time of the incident, how far i had been driving the car before the incident, etc. this is the second time i have had a problem with my 2011 fusion completely failing. the first time was in september 2012 when the throttle failed on the freeway. it was supposedly fixed. this time the lost of power did not feel like the throttle. it just stopped working. had power. didn't have power. i am extremely concerned that the dealer will find nothing wrong with the vehicle and it will be returned to me in an unsafe condition. others have reported this and similar issues. please get these vehicles recalled before someone loses a life.
