Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 89 968 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

This is a common issue in 2010 fusions as you can find lots of similar experiences. while heading towards an exit on the highway going 70mph, the steering suddenly lost all power steering. two warnings appeared on the display saying "service advancetrac" and "power steer assist failure." everything returns to normal after restarting the car and it happens once again at random.

Electronic power steering suddenly failed, error message displayed: "power steering assist fault; service advancetrac". failure occurred at low speed, shortly after startup.

Service power steering light came on as i was driving home. the next morning i turned on the car and it said service power steering now. have seen that i am one of the many people having this issue. should be recalled and fixed not just the 2011 which is just one year newer.

I took my car to sheehy ford of marlow heights for the airbag recall repair. upon picking the car up after it was "fixed", there are now 3 lights on my dash that were not previously there. these lights are the airbag light, the stability control light, and the service wrench. the dealership will not cooperate as far as fixing this.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the power steering and the traction control failed causing the vehicle to crash into a ditch. the contact crashed into a pole coming to a stop and the air bags did not deploy. the contact stated that the maintenance service track and the service power steering now warning messages illuminated prior to the failure. the police were notified and a report was filed. no medical attention was required at the scene, however, the mother and the contact suffered from back pain after the crash. the vehicle was first towed to a tow yard and later to the contact's home. the vehicle was not destroyed; the vehicle had not been repaired or taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that there was a recall on her vehicle nhtsa recall number: 19v001000 (air bags) .the failure mileage was 188,000.

I was driving on hwy 23 when all of sudden the dash light came on saying default trac service soon. then my steering went out && it was like i had no power steering. about 2 weeks prior i had to have tyson rod ends put on inside & out after just having them replaced in april. my airbag light comes on saying passenger airbag. a noise like a rubbing/scraping noise every time i turn the steering wheel that i've had the car looked at several times.

Electric steering start on hwy acting up phone ford and they says no recall on them but i know owners that have had the same problem phone ford and they said nothing they can do but the one year nwer is recall yet the the i have has the same parts see the link for my 2010 fusion https://ca.search.yahoo.com/search?p=2010+ford+fusion+steering+problems&fr=yfp-t&fp=1&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=utf-8

Car is a 2010 ford fusion hybrid 93kmile. on november 14, 2019 at 7am, car was approaching to a traffic intersection. car did not stop when apply break hit on the back of van standing on the traffic light. used the hand break to slow down and since the speed was low when hit the front van. no major damage occur except scratch and escaped from accident. took to ford dealership in east widsor, nj (halman ford). after diagnosis the result shows the abs break control unit is not functioning and should be replaced. it cost $1588+ tax. called ford. they told they don't have any program for this issue and don't provide any assistance for repair.

The power steering stopped working. for about 1.5 months when i would turn on the vehicle the dash would notify of a power steering fault and power steering would not work (steering wheel near impossible to move). however, if i turned the car off and back on the fault would go away and power steering would return to normal. unfortunately now the power steering is permanently not working and the car is no longer safe to drive. stability control warning also came on immediately after. extremely glad power steering did not go out while i was driving, it would have likely caused me to crash since steering is so hard to use without power steering. i did some research ford has a recall for this exact issue for the 2011 and 2012 fusions but not the 2010 but appears the 2010 is affected by the same defect.

While driving my 2010 ford fusion the power steering stopped working and the car became difficult to maneuver. the information display said power steering assist fault. as i turned to get out of traffic a second message said service advancetrac.

I purchased a new 2010 ford fusion hybrid se from a ford dealership in fairfax, va. after owning the vehicle for approximately 9 years, the vehicle no longer operates in electric mode (it only operates in gas mode). my average mpg has dropped from 37-40 mpg to 25-27 mpg. i took it to a ford dealership service center manassas, va in nov 2019 who indicated they are aware of the problem but they have no solution to fix it (they initially were going to charge me $150 diagnostic fee but waived the fee and sent me home). there are numerous reports in ford vehicle forums with the same complaint. consensus is that ford programmed the electronic mode to stop working after 9 years. when i purchased the vehicle, there was no disclosure that i would no longer have a properly working hybrid after 9 years. this end-of-life decision would have to be programmed into the vehicle's ecu at the time of manufacturing and should have been disclosed by ford at the time of purchase. had ford disclosed this, it would have directly impacted my decision to purchase the vehicle. the fix appears to be reprogramming the vehicle to make it think it is less than 9 years old which returns the hybrid functions to normal. according to several forums, some ford service centers have conduct this fix, but the majority of ford service centers are not willing/able to resolve this issue. this issue has been identified in ford's oasis database with no solution. tsb #ssm 48238 nhtsa id #10167224 was announced in oct 2019. refer to forums with identical issues and solutions: (https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-c28475_ds1000144), (https://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/fusion_hybrid/2010/tsbs/), (https://www.fordfusionforum.com/topic/19361-my-instructions-on-restoring-the-hybrid-ev-function-on-the-ford-fusion-hybrid-approaching-the-89-years-mark/).

Well i get out this morning to take my kids to school when i crank the car and we start riding the service advancetrac light came on in blank then the service power steering light came on. so after i drop them off i was on my way home the light continue to blink as i pulled up in my driveway the steering wheel start to get hard to steer so i'll park got out well so i'll part pop the hood got out and check for power steering on to realize that is not one because it's electric. so when i look online to my surprise everybody with a ford fusion is having the same as a problem different year different engine size but same problem no one seems to have a solution because it's many things that can cause the problem is very stressful i think y'all should have that on recall to help better assist people with the problems. unfortunately i hate the fact that my my warranty is up as father with a family of five don't have the money to afford to pay for to get it fixed.

Advance trac light and power steering light came on this morning dont know why car doesn't take power steering fluid this is the first time this has happened since 2015 when i first purchased it.

The car stalls and shifts gears after stopping at a red light or stop sign then after moments of pressing the gas pedal it spins off and jerks really hard on a freeway it rides very well it only stalls after waiting at a light or stop sign or tapping onto the break also the car has new break pads but it sounds like something is scrubbing and while i was backing out of a parking lot the car made a huge popping and threw me back while my foot was on the break it scared me so i got out to see what happened and i didn't hit anything nor did anything hit me so i tried to drive home and the car jerked the entire way home almost

When i started up the car & was going to pull out the light for passenger air bag came on, then i turn my wheel & there is like a grinding sound. i pulled on side of road & had someone come check it. they said same thing i did. i thought it was something rubbing against the tire, but when we looked there was nothing. then he kept turning the wheel & it sounded more in the steering column. my husband checked underneath the car when i got home & thank goodness he did because the tie rod ends inside & out were so bad that i was lucky to have not of crashed. still the steering is making that loud grinding, screeching sound. air bag & trac lights come on occasionally still also. really feel unsafe driving my car here the last few months. ive had it parked for the last month & bought just something to get around for now til i can afford to have it fixed or they have a recall on these. ive seen so many other people with same problems & i also seen they recalled the 2011 for same issues. why not the 2010?????

I had already gotten my throttle body repaired the year before my car started jolting as if it was malfunctioning again. this time though the vehicle would jump when i tried accelerate from stop, rpms would go all the way up to 5 before switching gears and the speedometer would move up and down while electrical lights flickered. took it to ford and nothing was found so i got an oil change and transmission flush. that same day the car started doing it again. i took the car back to ford they offered to clean the throttle body and returned the car the next day. not even 24hrs after started the same problem. i took car to auto zone they immediately found an error for the camshaft position sensor. brought car back to ford where they had me leave it for two days for the transmission tech to look at it. they then said oil had leaked onto the sensor causing the car to drive that way. replaced that and the head that was leaking. car was still jolting and driving as if throttle body was messed up but worse. i brought my car back that same week they found a sensor that needed to be replaced in the transmission. this whole while i was 8-9 months pregnant and ended up spending 1200 dollars on something that should've been fixed the first timr and in my opinion a side effect from the car having a defective throttle body for so long before they allowed it to be fixed.

All of a sudden one day one lights on my radio went out screen is blank my air / heat go in and out intermittingly my horn also is no longer working none of my outlets have power . i have had a system test done several times and nothing can be found . i looked on line i see that over 100 people with the same car and year having the same issues and this is very costly and as a consumer and this needs be recalled .

I brought my nephew to school, car started fine and no issues. it's only maybe a mile down the road. when i turned the car back on after dropping off, the 'power steering assist fault' and 'service advancetrak' indicators came on once i put it in reverse the steering wheel locked up. the power steering assist fault indicator came on maybe 3 times throughout the past 2 months but once i put the car in park and turned it off then back on, the indicator was gone and i could drive. this time it didn't go away and the service advancetrak was on.

The vehicle lost power steering while driving down the highway almost causing me to run off the road and into a tree. the service power steering now light than came on

The vehicle was parked turned on lost power steering and posts the codes "power steering assist fault" and "advancetrac needs service." it makes controlling the car difficult and dangerous. we checked online and noticed there have been hundreds if not thousands of the same complaints. ford knows this is a problem on this model car and has done nothing about it. very dangerous and disappointing. not a good representation of an american company.

I was just leaving a gas station when i heard beeping. i looked down and saw my power steering asst failure light was on and my service advance track light. i lost all power steering. i have looked up and seen you guys have covered the 2011 to 2012 but not the 2010 even though they are experiencing the same issue

At 128,000 miles both the power assist steer fault and service advancetrac illuminated within the message center in my dashboard. my vehicle had been sitting for about 4 months and had not been driven but a couple of times during this period. i needed to drive it due to having work done on my daily driver. so, i started my vehicle the morning i intended to use it to commute to work and these problems suddenly appeared. i was not in motion as i had just started the vehicle on the morning of the 18th to warm up prior to driving it to work.

After starting the car, i get message "power steering assist fault". after moving just a few feet, the traction light comes on and i get message "service advancetrac". the dealership tells me the electric rack needs to be replaced and the part alone is over $1600. from my understanding, the 2011 and 2012 models have been recalled, and the 2010 models have the same part number for the recalled rack.

Power steering assist fault. passenger bag fault. and service advancetrack. i went to start my car later in the afternoon and the car will not steer. a warning appeared the day before and i shut the vehicle off and it was fine but now won't do so.

This vehicle has been sitting for over a month due to my limited income as a veteran i can not afford to repair this issue at an estimate cost of $1600. this issue is not due to my negligence.power steering assist failure is the issue. i was driving it to work in dallas,nc when i experienced the steering wheel locked as i made a right turn into a parking space. after i struggled to get it into the parking space i also struggle to drive it home as well.once i got the vehicle home i called tindol ford in gastonia,nc regarding my concern i was informed that i need to have it diagnosed at my expense of $99. then if it is the epas (electric power assist system) repair estimate cost can be about $1600. this vehicle specifically had a recall before not sure but i think it was for airbag and or seatbelt. well since then i borrowed a temporary vehicle from family member due to repair cost being expensive. this ford fusion has a title lien through bridgecrest, in whom i finance with. vehicle is almost paid in full.this issue however is not any of negligence but more so a manufacturer issue. the epas consist of a trw component which consist of everything to this failure such as the hydraulic the belt drive the drive rack the coder interface etc. i had a local mechanic look at it and the observation made was it's a power steering issue that only manufacturer can correct due to the complexity. the trw is a non serviceable unit. enclosing i ask that you please contact the manufacturer and look into the facts of this matter which is fault of the manufacturer. i thank you in advance for your time and help with this matter.

While driving vehicle at highway speed, the vehicle lost electric steering control and two codes appeared on the dash - service advancetrac and power steering assist fault. the vehicle was travelling at 65ish while completing a sloping turn on the capital beltway, the vehicle pulled to the right and required extensive arm force to remain in control. the vehicle was safely moved to the shoulder of the road and towed to the dealer for service.

My wife drove to get my tires changed and when she got to the walmart auto center to change the tires the power steering went out on the vehicle. luckily she had made it to the auto center and wasn't involved in an accident as the power steering went out in the parking lot, however she was in motion. my wife is 5 months pregnant and its terrifying to know that she could have been involved to a moving accident with a vehicle that should have been included in the previous recall of the 2011-2013 ford fusions. as many others have stated, the power steering went out due to the fault that is inherent with the epas system of the ford fusion. as such i had to take my car to the nearest dealer to figure out a repair. the dealership quoted me $1600 for the repair that i don't have at the moment. i will have to get my car repaired as i don't have another option. once again this vehicle should have been included in the recall for the power steering system, i can only hope that this issue will be resolved in the favour of the customer.

I inherited this vehicle a little over a year ago. the vehicle shuts off for no reason and the battery and wrench light come on. after much research i have found that this could be the etb assembly and that several people have complained about this. this is dangerous and i do not know why ford has not recalled it yet rather than offering the customer satisfaction program. i have an appt to take it to a dealership on saturday. this is a known issue and we shouldnt have to pay for any diagnostics. if something happens to me while driving i will sue.

April 30, 2018 after driving for 3 hours on the highway at appr. 75 to 80 mph the dash lights went haywire, flickering and then the service advancetrac warning came d. i was able to drive it to my exit and drive slowly. i could stop and go very slow. after a mile or 2 the batter light and all the lights came on and the brake light warning light came on. i could feel the car loosing power so i pulled over. at this time it was also chiming that the cross fault system was not available. after turning the car off, it would not start, the radio would play, lights would work and hazards would work .the steering was hard to turn the car was towed to a mechanic shop and i am awaiting a diagnosis. earlier on april 16, i received a letter from ford stating they would no longer host the vehicle health report system.

Power steering sensor came on. i turned off the stability assist button and drove home. after parking and attempting to drive the car again, the steering feels like it is resisting.

Transmission slips, hard, going 1st to 2nd. transmission oil is black at 55,000 and the service "advancetrac" keeps coming on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized several times. in addition, the check engine, abs, traction control, and eps warning indicators randomly flashed. the contact, a mechanic, checked for a diagnostic trouble code, which indicated that there was a failure with the steering wheel angle sensor either opening or shorting out. the code also indicated that there was a connection failure and the abs module may be faulty. hassett ford-lincoln (3530 sunrise hwy, wantagh, ny 11793, (516) 785-7800) and ford lincoln of queens boulevard (139-48 queens blvd, jamaica, ny 11435, (718) 657-8888) indicated that the vehicle was excluded from any eps and brake recalls. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000.

Power steering fault, electronic power steering failure. this has happened several times. turn car on, steer failure. turn off car, restart & it resets. last night turned car on "power steering failure", would not reset, then got a stability failure. no power steering. will not reset

My car keeps switching to manual steering while i'm driving. there was a recall issued for the exact issue but not for my year or vin. i almost got in an accident trying to turn on a main street

My 2010 ford fusion lost all electronic power steering while driving 45 on the highway with my 12 yr old and 1 month old in the vehicle. while driving my steering seized up and i had to use all extra force to turn off the highway. thank god traffic was easy and i was able to get off the road. the dash board lights came on saying tire pressure low, service power steering and advanced trac warning. many complaints have been made about the 2010 ford fusion. however a recall has only been issued for the 2011-2012 model for the same exact issue that many people are having with the 2010 as well. this is a serious matter. it can be very dangerous not only to us as the drivers but everyone on the road. very unsafe! hopefully a recall is given for the 2010 models as well, being that it is the same exact issue for a year later and above.

While driving my vehicle the service advancetrac warning light came on. my vehicle would not accelerate appropriately and then would not be in gear. i have taken it to the dealer and they replaced sensors etc. they have identified that the steering rack and pinion will need to be replaced. when i researched this i found that this is a common issue for this vehicle and that a recall had in fact been instituted for 2011 and newer models. this is a problem in vehicles from 2010 as well. there is no reason owners of 2010 models should have to pay the expense to fix this dangerous vehicle failure when new model owners do not. the part itself (for aftermarket) costs $1000.

Takata recall - i went to dealership and was told that the "parts for replacement" are not yet available.

I have a 2010 ford fusion 111,000 miles, while driving 45 mph on a side road the power steering stopped working. was able to pull over to the side away from traffic. later the advance trac, and power assist lights came on the dash board. called a mechanic that said i would be able to drive the car but without power steering. after running many test. the steering angle showed left even when u were turning to the right...

Advancetrac and power steering assist fault errors come up in the message center. also lost power steering and i now have to manually steer vehicle.the vehicle was in the stationary position and came on when i started the car. the error message has not gone with shutting off and restarting the vehicle.

I had a new battery placed and the oil changed with my local mechanic. i drove 3.5 miles home and, upon turning into my neighborhood, a red "stop safely now" alert flashed. there was no traffic so i proceeded to my home. approximately 0.2 miles later the car lost acceleration, continuing at 10mph (even with the gas pedal to the floor) before losing all acceleration. i turned the car off and back on. the alarm had cleared. i restarted the car and drove 300 feet when the alarm recurred. i was 50 feet from my driveway so i restarted the car, cleared the alarm and went 15 feet before it recurred, with no ability to move in drive or reverse. i restarted the car a third time and the alarm had cleared again. i was pulling up my driveway at a significant incline when it recurred. i was able to make it up my driveway and park. i called my mechanic and, after a quick on-line search, he informed me there was ford technical service bulletin 12-5-14 on this specific issue. this was an extraordinarily dangerous situation. this incident occurred without warning. in other circumstances-my wife or children in the car, driving on the highway, driving in rapidly moving traffic- my family's well-being would have been placed at great risk. ford should not be allowed to jeopardize the safety of my family for a problem they are clearly aware of and are not addressing, i assume to minimize financial losses. what is being done to hold ford accountable for ensuring the safety of their customers and other drivers on the road who are also placed at risk by this design flaw ford acknowledges?

I was driving home after picking up my 9yr old from school, when vehicle in front of me came to an abrupt stop,i had to swerve right to avoid hitting them and hit my brakes"at this point my vehicle shut off completely in the middle of traffic i had to restart it then drove about 10 miles when my car started chimming and the service power stearing now and advance track control warnings came on i had no control of my vehicle i could not turn the wheel at all it was locked i managed to pull to the side of the road with extreme effort i thought i was going to break something trying to turn the wheel just slitely to get to side of road car had to be towed it undrivable and completely unsafe my son could have been seriously injured.ford has recalled these cars for the same issue in 2011 and beyond why if they have the same exact function and parts not recalling these 1500$ to fix that i don't have, ive taking great care of this vehicle but have had nothing but problems the same day this happened i received a factory recall for the purge canister and gas tank, the car when i bought it was burning up calipers wheels were coming loose break pads shearing off and rotor after rotor pad after pad and 3 calipers and a battery later because break fluid shot out of my reservoir onto my battery shorting it out conducting a straight feed from pos to neg.now this this is so dangerous if i was a less exsperianced driver this could have been tragic!!!is that really what it takes for this billion dollar company to be held accountable i mean we already payed for the vehicle least they can do is fix the problems they no have existed for along time before people die.

I was driving when i received a "service power steering" indicator on the dash. a minute or two later i also receive an "service advancetrac" indicator. the power steering was still working at that point and i parked the car and turned it off to check what was wrong. once i turned the car back on i received a "service power steering now" indicator on the dash. at this point the power steering was no longer working. i could not drive the car as it was much too difficult to turn the steering wheel. i had the car towed and brought to a local ford dealer. i had to leave it there and rent a car as i was visiting from out of town and had to return home. the ford service dealer called and told me i had to replace the power steering system. $1600. ouch

I have a 2010 ford fusion with less than 80k miles on it. the power steering went out on this vehicle while my wife was driving with our 3 year old in the backseat. she was barely able to get it off the road, as well as return the vehicle home. this is extremely dangerous! the only warning light that turned on was the service power steering message and the service advancetrak message. i took the vehicle to my mechanic they were able to see trouble codes, and cleared them. the drove the vehicle about 15 miles and were not able to replicate the problem. we picked up the vehicle 7/11/17 and drove 15 miles home and left for the night. 7/12/15 the morning of, my wife proceeded to drive the vehicle 3 miles and sure enough same problem happened to her while driving. for the life of me i cannot understand this issue. why is there a recall for the 2011 vehicles but not for 2010, which from my understanding is what sparked the entire recall period. ford needs to remedy this issue, or provide a fix for the vehicle.

I was reversing out of my driveway when all of a sudden i lost control of the power steering and almost hit the wall at the end of my driveway! the power steering assist failure came on and has not gone off. i have tried restarting my vehicle many times to no avail.

Vehicle showed intermittent "service advancetrak" light and would intermittently go into full abs mode at low speed on smooth, dry pavement. the abs part of the problem caused us to miss several turns for lack of effective braking and, at least once, to end up four feet past a stop sign and into the crossing lane of traffic. the ford dealer replaced the l/r abs sensor twice but the problem recurred 9 months and then 3 months later. the third time, we took the vehicle to an independent shop where i was able to personally observe the final and correct diagnosis and repair of the problem. there was a buildup of rust and scale on the sensor mounting point which had gradually forced the plastic sensor further and further from notched sender wheel until, eventually, the sensor became intermittent. the computer apparently interpreted this as a locked wheel and then went into full abs mode. that's what the real mechanic said, anyway, and his repair has worked fine for about four months now (the r/h sensor also went intermittent for the same reason about two months ago and was also successfully repaired by cleaning up the mount and reinstalling the original 2010 sensor). the ford dealer's mechanic apparently never cleaned up the surface of the mount on either of his repairs. just torquing down the new sensor was evidently enough to make it work for a while. this would not be worth bothering you over but for the random abs part which could have caused us to be in a pretty serious accident on at least one occasion (the stop sign!). i did not observe any obvious pattern or relationship between the light coming on and/or the abs malfunction. rust is a common problem here in the northeast. the mechanic who solved the problem said he has run into similar issues with other cars. it might be worth at least a service bulletin.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 15 mph, the power steering failed and the wrench warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering rack failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000......updated 03/08/17 *bf the consumer stated the power steering failed while driving. updated 09/07/2017*js

My child was driving my ford 2010 fusion and it suddenly caught fire destroying the engine and surrounding components, everything inside the car was melted. fire destroyed the front of the inside of the car . there were no check engine lights or other warning signs displayed on the car dashboard. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact, a mechanic, stated that there was a sudden loss of power steering, the warning lights flashed to service the eps, and the stability traction control and various warning indicators flashed. the contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and restart it, but the failure continued. the vehicle was diagnosed by a dealer who indicated that the rack and pinion needed to replaced. the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a leak from the air conditioner drain on top of the steering gear. it was diagnosed that the steering wheel angle sensor in the steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the contact indicated that the dealer's mechanical diagnosis was a sufficient solution to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

My 2010 ford fusion has come up with a "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrac" messages on the dash board. this causes the steering in the vehicle to be stiff and very dificult to make a turn on the road. i managed to make it home driving at a reduced speed and by avoiding making turns when possible to prevent an accident.

While driving at posted speed, power steering assistance unexpected failed. driver error notice "service power steering now" displayed immediately, followed soon by "service advancetrac." just barely kept the vehicle on the road, avoiding a rather large ditch. local mechanic diag revealed the following relevant diag codes: * c1277 (invalid or missing data for steering wheel angle sensor) * c1963 (stability control inhibit warning). *tr
