The power steering assist fault indicator will not reset. loss of power steering. how can ford have a recall for the 2011 and 2012 fusions but not the 2010? this is very dangerous when you lose power steering while your driving. *tr
Power steering suddenly stopped working and now the service power steering warning is coming on and we cant reset it. we were driving on the road when this happened, and now have no power steering.
2 warning service errors will show up and power steering becomes disabled as driving on residential street. power steering became completely disabled by the time the tow truck came to pick it up. mechanic stated it was the same codes as the recall for 2011 ford fusions. had to take it to the ford dealer to have it correctly fixed. stated it was the steering rack assembly. looked up issue and many others with fusion has the same exact issue but no recall on 2010 models. same issue and fix for the ford fusions with recalls (2011 and above) extremely dangerous as power steering went out and could have caused a life threatening crash. luckily my fiance (future husband) was driving the car as i would have not been strong enough to safely pull over by turning the wheel.
Power steering fault appeared on dashboard while driving and steering became hard to control. turned ignition switch off and restarted power steering was working again. carried car in for service i was told everything was normal. now it's happened 4 or 5 times . being that it's out of warranty now its out again .
We were driving to pick up our daughter when the service power steering now and service advancetrac came on the message board. we lost power steering to the car. luckily my mom's house wasn't far from our house. we got home safe and called the next day about repairs and found out it was over $1500. that is something we can't afford with a family. come to find out many people have this problem with the same make and model and have gotten it fixed but the problem keeps reoccurring. this is very disappointing to hear about this car. this was my wife's dream car and now we find out its not as safe as ford claims it is.
Service advancetrac system 2010 ford fusion se 6spd manual, completely loses power at random times, has occurred 4 times in 5 days. will be driving along at 40 to 45 mph straight or turning at 5 to 10 mph or even going up a straight, slight incline and the vehicle just loses power completely, the dashboard lights up and the service advancetrac system error message appears. i turn car off, yes in the midst of traffic with other drivers honking horns and praying no one runs into me, wait 5 seconds and then try to start the vehicle, which it does restart, however the service advancetrac error message remains. when the vehicle sits for more than a few hours the error message will not appear. it only comes on when the vehicle shuts off completely, which by the way is going to get me killed. i am a single mother working two jobs making the time to take it to the shop is difficult, however i will be taking it today (3/14/16). losing power while driving 45 mph is not a safe situation for any driver on the road. someone is going to get killed when this occurs. i see there have been several complaints for the same issue on the same year, make and model, ford needs to address this situation quickly.
Loss of power steering, and advance trac
I have a 2010 ford fusion se 4drv6 and was driving my vehicle down a highway and my low tire pressure light came on. unable to pull over immediately i drove to the nearest good year which offers free tire repair when out of no where the traction stability control kicked in on my car and my service screen said "service power steering now" i maintained control of the vehicle until i got to good year where they discovered that i had no power steering. *js
The electronic power steering on this vehicle is defective. i've only had this vechile for about a year and a half and heve had several major issues with it. the power steering problem has been the biggest issue. i was originally told the the part was on recall, then after jumping through several hoops i ended up having to pay $1314.17 to have it fixed myself. less than 24 hours after picking the car up from the dealership the same problems are occurring, the electronic power steering completely went out again while driving on the highway. this part needs to be recalled on all vehicles, it is very dangerous to be driving and completely loose control of your vehicle on the highway. thankfully, i was able to gain control of the car this time, but it could have been much worst. i have and will continue to file complaints against ford until this defective part until something is done.
While driving the instrument panel lights up with an organge wrench and check engine light. i am unable to accelerate and need to get off the road as quickly as possible.when i press on the gas pedal nothing happens. it sounds and appears like the car is about to stall.this has happened at least 8 times in the last week.i had the car towed to my mechanic who told me it is the trottle body and that a ford dealer would fix it. i dropped it off only to pick it up 2 days later and they told me nothing was found. since it didnt occur while they were driving it they would not replace the part. i have no other option but to continue to drive the car as i am a single mother with no other means for transporation and the mechanics at the ford dealership told me it was "safe." the car engine stops responding at high speeds.. how is that safe?! updated 9/21/15 *ln
I have replaced multiple defects on my 2010 ford fusion. now, on the way to taking my children to school..my power steering completely shuts down! i've read that there are over 400,000 complaints and a pending lawsuit on the same issue with my car! i've filed a lawsuit to address this problem. i've spoken with the ford dealership, who stated that nothing can be done. i will never again buy a ford!
While driving a message appeared on the instrument panel, "have power steering serviced", within a few seconds "have advance trac system serviced" warning appeared. i shut off the car. upon restarting the car there was a total failure of the power steering system. it was impossible to drive the car due to the difficulty of turning the steering wheel. i detected a slight burning smell. the car had to be towed to the dealer. repair invoice states an internal fault of electric power steering. rack and pinion system had to be replaced. mileage at the time was 60,402. if this would have happened on the highway or on a busy road there would have been great potential for an accident.
My 19 year old daughter was driving to college when out of the blue she went to drive around a right hand corner at about 45 mph and the electronic power steering completely failed the car steering was so hard to turn the car didn't make the right hand turn so the car went across the road and up over the curb and almost hit a lady walking her dog no one was hurt but sure could have been the car has no other damage besides the steering and the advance track not working i'm very glad everyone is ok i'm 50 years old and i have never seen anything like this i had to go get the car off the curb and drive it to the ford dealer way hard to do even harder then a older vehicle if the power steering failed something really needs to be done before someone gets killed 42000 miles car is like new and i see well over 500 complaints so far so i would say this isn't just a random problem.
My wife was driving the ford fusion and an error for "service power steering" came up on her dashboard. she still had power steering and was able to make it to work and park. upon leaving work, she turned the car on and realized the power steering was completely gone. she could not drive the car because she could not efficiently turn the wheel. i had to go pick her up and at which point i realized i could attempt to steer the car. i was able to make the commute home safely, although the drive was a struggle the entire time. we took the car to a ford dealership. they were unaware of any common issues. they diagnosed the car needing a new rack and pinion unit (the epas unit). we replaced the rack and pinion, not through ford because they wanted $1800 we did not have. and the issue is still present. the car not safe to drive. it has been a real inconvenience for my family. the car is 5 years old and this is a major issue. and we still have 3 years left of payments on something that is currently not drive-able....//. updated10/27/15 *bf updated 12/05/2017*cn
Power stering went out on 2010 ford fusion. dash notifications: service advance trac & power steering assist fault. seeing too many posts on the same issue.
I was driving home from work, had to stop and drop some items off for my daughter at summer camp. when i was leaving camp the steering felt like it wanted to pull to the right, a few miles down the road all power steering was lost. service advanc-trac warning message was being displayed on the dash board. i pulled over at a convenient store to investigate the problem, could not find anything. it was raining so i carefully drove home without any power steering. took car to local dealership where they diagnosed the problem as a rack& pinion failure, total cost to repair $1,641.00. the dealer stated they had not seen this problem before. after a short search i found hundreds of similar problems reported. i read where this same problem initiated a recall on the 2011 ford fusion, but no help referenced to the 2010 ford fusions. if they identified the defect in the 2011 models, shouldn't they fix the problem from the previous models with the advance-trac system. no dealer will touch this vehicle with its defect as a trade-in, meanwhile i'm still paying on a car that i can not drive safely.
I was traveling down the highway around 60 mph and the power assist check message came on. i stopped in the next town and shut car off. when i restarted i said to check system now and had no power steering whatsoever. since i was 1.5 hours from home i tried driving for about 20 miles and decided that was enough as there was very little control of car. ended up having someone come pick up car a trailer it home.
My vehicle's power-steering got disabled out of nowhere apparently i'm not the only one with this issue, i get an error on the driver panel saying to service power steering now.
I was driving about 25-30 mph in the busy streets of van nuys california, i had my entire family in the car as we were going to eat dinner. as i approached the parking lot from the street, the "vehicle dynamic control off indicator light" turned on, then immediately right after a message on the dashboard popped up and read "power steering need service". as soon as i tried to turn into the parking lot the power steering went out, i had to use all my strength to pull the steering wheel and avoid crashing into the cars exiting the parking lot (the cars were waiting to make a right, into the main street van nuys blvd). i can usually muscle a car without power steering, if it were a traditional oil pump, but the electrical system was almost impossible to turn. luckily i made the turn without incident or injuries, but this is definitely something ford has to address. there are many situations i can imagine where this power steering failure may lead to property loss, injury or even death. the power steering gave no warning, i looked up how to fix this problem online, only to find that hundreds of people had experienced the same exact problem, i also noticed that all their posts were within the last month, so this problem is not uncommon. ford must address this problem asap in order to avoid injury or death, they should have noticed this in the testing phase of fusion production. thankfully my family and i are ok, but now i have to find a way to work and come up with $1800+ for repairs. *tr
I was driving, and the car chimed a couple of times and the power steering immediately stopped working. the service power steering system now reading and advance trac reading started to show. ford says it has not had any major issues as per 2 ford service dealerships. i went to college for automotive and worked as a tech for ford and i know power steering randomly going out is a safety issue. we were fortunate to not have any injuries, but this issue almost got us into a wreck. i will not pay ford to fix a dysfunctional part that they installed. paying ford to fix the problem is like paying a serial killer to sharpen your knives before he/she decides which knife to stab you with.
Electric power steering went out while driving on state highways, making it almost impossible to drive, steer to a safe place just to prevent a head on collision.without any warning driving and out of nowhere electric power steering goes out while in a curve i can guarantee you the average driver will end up in a crash, possibly dead. i was only lucky no one was coming towards me. cost was around 1,200$ at ford dealership. i'm not sure the date of the incident, it was over a year ago.
While driving 30mph the advancetrac system flashed on the that dash board. as a result i lost all power steering control and almost ran head on to an ,on coming vehicle as i was making a right hand turn. took the vehicle to dealer to get repaired ($1249.40). this all occurred on 12/15/2012. the second incident happened on 12/27/ 2014. as my family was traveling 70mph down i44 near joplin, missouri. the advancetrac system flashed on the dash board and once again i lost all power steering control. in doing so the vehicle took a hard right almost putting my vehicle underneath a tractor tailor. i was able to get the vehicle under control and limped the vehicle back to my home. the fault in this vehicle almost killed me and my family , this is a on going problem with this vehicle around the nation. how many fatalities is it going to take before the nhtsa forces the ford motor company to recall the vehicle's and fix the problem. thank you for your work , in getting this problem resolved. *tr
I had a problem with my power steering wheel wit a ford fusion 2010 i investigate end found that 2009 to 2011 have a power steering wheel problems that cost 1600 to fix it there's 1000600 complains about this and ford needs to change all the power steering wheels end there's being a lot of accidents when people are driving on the freeway when the power steering brake down they should make ford fix this problem like they made chrysler i don't know know how much people are going to die until you guys fix this. *tr
We were pulling out of a parking lot and a warning chimed to "service advancetrac" and, simultaneously, i lost power steering while trying to turn. we came to a red light so i tried shutting the car off. upon restart, everything appeared to be working properly. however while driving home the warning came back on, and i continued to lose power steering at random times. driving around curves was especially frustrating, since i would go into the curve without power steering, and it would sporadically resume function, causing me to run off the road twice. we have not driven the car since then. *js
This is 3rd incident. daughter driving vehicle on interstate approx 75mph. after 1 hr of driving, steering got stiff, advance trac light sensor appeared and "service power steering". she slowed down and was able to exit the interstate safely and park the vehicle at a gas station. after turning off the vehicle and turning back on, power steering was completely out. "service power steering now." my husband went to pick up the vehicle and see if it needed to be towed back to dealer. once the car sat for about an hour, my husband turned on the vehicle and steering was operational. he was able to drive the vehicle back to the dealer (an hour drive on interstate going 50mph). he noted that the steering would come and go - didn't matter what speed he was going- it was sporadic. dealer recommends new power steering even though the power steering was replaced 2 years ago. they weren't sure if this would or would not happen again. seems to be a ford defective part (software issue or sensors) that hasn't been recalled yet so by replacing the module again may only be a band aid till a recall is made and a "fix" is made to this part. ?advance trac sensor,?torque sensor, etc.. seems like once the advance trac sensor is tripped, it's a domino effect and power steering sensor is somehow disabled. ford already recalled other models with this epas for different defective sensors - not sure why the ford fusions haven't been recalled yet. maybe they don't know the exact cause of the power steering failure? *tr
I was driving at about 25-30 miles per hour and got a flat tire. i stopped the car and changed the tire, but once i started driving the caution alarm came on and started flashing that the "electric power assisted steering" malfunctioned. it became difficult to steer the car. i almost ran off the road into a drainage canal trying to make a turn. *tr
Shortly after starting the car the power steering service and advance trak service announcements came on dash. we drove for another 10-min and then stopped the car. when we restarted the car, we had no power steering at all. powering off the car and trying to restart has not restored any power steering capability and the advance trak and power steering service warning display constantly now. the car is undriveable. *tr
As i was going down the highway, my power steering failed. i was almost unable to turn into a parking lot to get the car off of the road. the messages on the dash read power steering fault and service advance trac. this seems to be a common problem with these type of cars. the replacement part is $1400.00 plus labor. something needs to be done to get this recalled. *tr
Drove 120+ miles on interstate, parked car for approximately 30 minutes. restarted and noticed warning light on dash, later determined it was "advancetrac" light. drove 2 miles at 45 to 50 mph, car pulled extremely hard to the right. stopped and cut off car to check tires, they were ok but noticed on dash readout was "service advancetrac and service power steering now." restarted car and had no power steering. extremely hard to drive but managed to get to ford dealership; they said that the steering gear needed replacing at a cost of $2,249.27. was out of town and couldn't leave it over the weekend so they reset fault code and i drove back home; power steering worked and no warning lights or readout on dash. *tr
Electronic power steering stopped working after having started the car and driving off, messages that displayed on dashboard include "service advancetrac" and "power steering assist faulty". *tr
While driving car on interstate 85 near auburn alabama in a construction zone on un even pavement my car suddenly lost power steering. light came on and says service power steering now along with service advance trac. i was able to get it under control with out incident, but this poses a serious safety hazard. *tr
As i was parking my car, the service advancetrac warning message and service power steering message appeared on the dash and i lost power steering. i almost slammed into another car as a lady was attempting to exit the car. luckily my brakes still worked. i see there are a lot of other 2010 fusion owners who are experiencing the same problems. my vehicle has 77,000 miles on it currently and that seems to be in the same range as the other owners at the time of their steering failures. ford really needs to make a recall on this before someone is seriously injured or, worse, killed. *tr
While driving under normal conditions, the power steering system suddenly failed. messages stating "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac" as well. great difficulty turning on the windy road with four kids in car. found numerous complaints online. see other ford vehicles were recalled for same problem. why not fusions? *tr
Just purchased used 2010 ford fusion se (6cyl). after 2 days of driving, was on the interstate driving approximately 75 mph and the advance trac light came on. i noticed the power steering was getting stiff. shortly after a "service power steering" message appeared and it was extremely difficult for me to control my vehicle. i was able to safely pull off to an exit and turned off the vehicle. after about a minute, i turned the vehicle back on.the advance trac light sensor was off but the message appears "service power steering now". the steering wheel was completely locked up and i was unable to drive the vehicle. the dealer i bought this vehicle from towed the vehicle back to their lot and had the problem diagnosed. they were told by ford that the electric power steering had to be "reset". they "reset" the power steering, the message was cleared and the steering was good. after 2 weeks of driving, again i was on the same interstate going 75 mph and the advance trac light appeared with the message "service power steering." luckily, i was near an exit and was able to safely park my vehicle at a gas station. the dealer again towed the vehicle back to their shop and is waiting to figure out what to do. i find this extremely dangerous and i'm surprised that a recall hasn't been made for this issue on the ford fusions.if you google the problem, you will see multiple forums with people complaining of same issue but all the repairs were different on their ford fusions. either the module was replaced or the power steering rack and pinion was replaced. of course, none are within warranty and were pretty costly.i saw that a massive recall has been made for this issue in the ford escapes. i'm not sure if ford is waiting for multiple fatalities to occur before they address this issue. i hope my complaint helps.please ford... issue recall for the ford fusions power steering! *tr
Electronic power steering failure; never worked again. the car makes a loud popping/ clicking when turning sharply at lower speeds, especially when turning right. *tr
The electric power assisted steering (epas) suddenly fail while driving, resulting in increased steering effort and at times it's will turn way to easy. *tr
I was driving 45mph then suddenly my steering wheel started going all over car lost control and steering was uncontrollable and really hard. i had to drive really slow to get back home. *tr
I bought my 2010 ford fusion sel v6 with 12000 miles and drive it daily 120 miles/day to work. it has 106,000 miles now. last week, for the third time, the "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac" indicators flashed on while driving 70 mph at night, using cruise control. arrived home safely, next morning, no power steering. drove car to ford dealership, who hooked it up to diagnostic machine, and cleared messages, power steering now functioning again. the second time this occurred the dealership looked at something to do with the wheel on the passenger side. i have not used cruise control with this car since the second episode, nearly a year ago. last week, when the third failure occurred, my friend was driving the car and had activated the cruise control, and i had warned him that i believed there was some relationship factor with using cruise control and the loss of power steering. i drive quite roughly, aggressively, and have hit many bumps with no loss of power steering. during the first and second occurrence the cruise control was activated, a rough spot was encountered, and the "service power steering now -advancetrac" messages came on, with consequential loss of power steering. no mechanical work seems to matter, only effective action is clearing the messages and reestablishing power steering by hooking up to diagnostic machine. i believe it is a software glitch maybe involving a sensor. i am not a mechanic. will the recall/replacement of throttle assembly solve this problem?? ford needs to step up and respond to this problem. *tr
I had my daughter and 4 month old grandson with me. we drove 7 miles to town to go to grocery store with no car troubles. parked and went into store upon returning and starting my vehicle it started dinging at me and i didn't know why until i tried to pull out and had no power steering. at this point i noticed i had 2 messages "service advanctrac" and "power steering assist fault". i looked under the hood for my power steering fluid only to discover that i had none and that the car had electronic power steering. i shut the car off and restarted both messages went away and car ran fine. in july it happened again and this time i was out of state, 5 hrs from home, on the freeway heading home when i had to pull off and shut the car down and restart it then i made it home. in september it happened again and this time my daughter had my car coming home from the grocery store in town with her 8 month old son coming up a hill out of town limits. she shut it down and restarted then made home. now its october and on sunday the 26th i drove to town for church with my foster son and the car ran fine. when i left church i started the car and both messages appeared again but shutting off the car would not fix it. i had to drive home with no power steering. my husband disconnected the battery for 1/2 hr and that didn't fix it either. i have been researching and found that this is a problem in the 2010-2012 ford fusion and its a costly problem that i cant pay for so now my car has to sit and i have no means of transportation, especially since i live in the country with no public transportation. please help!! *tr
I started my car then suddenly the laram appear as (service advance trac) however i didn't notice any change in my car , i had my steering working and my brakes fine , after that i went few miles than turned off the car , after that the alarm disappeared , after a while it appeared again and i continue my trip then parked the car and after 1:30 hours i turned on and the alarm disappeared and never appeared again till now which means after a day. *tr
While driving on road at 50 mph the car suddenly alarmed "service advancetrac" and "service power steering now." my steering wheel locked on me. thank god it didn't cause an accident. i see on this website and the internet there are multiple complaints about this but no recalls. this is very expensive to fix!!!!i why no recalls yet? *tr
Started my car and everything was fine, within 45 seconds of driving my dash said service power steering now and then service advancetrac, with the advancetrac light coming on. as soon as this happened my power steering was completely gone and i could hardly turn. it has never worked since and whenever i start the car it says service power steering now shortly followed by service advancetrac. *tr
I was driving my 2010 ford fusion on a dry level street and suddenly the service power steering now and advance trac failure displayed on my radio. it is estimated to cost $1200 to fix this and i have seen approximately 25% of the complaints about ford fusions involve this issue. please help us there is an obvious fault from ford. *tr
My wife was driving to a appointment and about 2 miles away from the house, the advance trac light came on then the car steering locked up and the car lost control, she was able to pull up against the side walk safe, but it scared her really bad thinking it was going to be a serious and that her and the baby she carrying would be hurt, why is their not a recall on this problem, so many people has had the same problem with the ford fusion it should be. *tr
I turned right out of a parking lot onto the highway traveling at 35 mph when the "power steering fault" light came on the steering felt heaver than usual i drove about 7 miles than parked car. when i restarted the car after 2 hours the information panel said "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac" and the power assist was off extremely difficult to steer. could be extremely dangerous if this was to happen in a parking lot with people around. *tr
We were stopped in heavy traffic in orlando 800 miles from home. the car would not accelerate so we limped into a gas station. a tow truck operator was at the gas station as well as a mechanic. they both said it is a very common ford throttle control failure. ford quoted us $1000 to fix the problem but a mechanic fixed it for $450. initially, he cleaned the throttle control and changed the spark plugs. it drove fine in test drive but failed again on our way to hotel. we purchased the part from greenway ford in winter park fl. they had 24 in stock because it is not uncommon to sell 12 a day since the problem is so common. the problem is now solved because we drove the car to toyota and traded it in. *tr
I went to pick up my car from the ford dealership after dropping it off, again, on friday, 12/27 to fix the same exact issue i brought it in for the day before. the steering got incredibly stiff and the "service power steering now" light came on as well as the "service advancetrac" light. the first time they replaced the steering rack. second time they blamed the wiring. i brought the car in today 12/31 but they were closed so i can't wait to see what they are going to try to fix when they open back up on jan 2nd. i have not been able to drive this car for almost a week now and i wont be able to any time soon i feel. *tr
While driving on a freeway at 65 miles my right front tire went flat and i lost all power steering function. the "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac" warnings appeared. i immediately pulled over and installed the spare. upon restarting the car the warnings remained and i had no power steering assist at all. it is almost impossible to turn a corner or pull into a parking space. the force needed to turn the steering wheel is unbelievable. judging by the complaints filed, and the volume of posts on the internet, dating back to 2006, i find it hard to believe that this issue has never been addressed. this is a very serious safety issue which could most certainly result in accidents and potential fatalities. *tr
Upon driving down a busy road, out of no where i lost my power steering, almost colliding into a post, and got a notification that my esc failed right afterwards. the steering is now really stiff and requires a lot of force to turn. i tried searching the reason why this happens online and found a ton of similar if not the exact same situation as mine. this is unsafe!! *tr
2010 ford fusion sel v6 entered vehicle for errand. vehicle started normally, however after short distance power steering almost locked up, info on dash stated service power steering and advance trak systems now. have replaced power steering rack with new ford parts. first one lasted four weeks then trouble message on dash activated. vehicle still drove normally. upon parking and restarting steering was almost locked up again. replaced rack second time. vehicle drove normally for two weeks then system acted as it had before the first rack was replaced. currently vehicle is steerable for very strong person but average could not steer vehicle. this issue, would without doubt lead to crash and injury were it to occur while on highway. *tr
