Recently reported STEERING problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

I was just leaving a gas station when i heard beeping. i looked down and saw my power steering asst failure light was on and my service advance track light. i lost all power steering. i have looked up and seen you guys have covered the 2011 to 2012 but not the 2010 even though they are experiencing the same issue

Power steering failure - lost steering control. fortunately this happened in my driveway or i would have had an accident. this is very dangerous and it goes out suddenly.

Power steering saturday night 1/12/19 my family and i were driving home when we heard a beeping sound. i looked down at the dash and it read: "advance trak service power steering now." it has never done this and we bought this back in october, 2018. it's never given any sign as to going out til that night. we were fortunate to get home safely. ford is expecting me to pay them to diagnose it and possibly reset it, which may or may not fix the problem. i'm disappointed that there is no recall on this seeing as how many complaints there are for this exact issue. there needs to be a recall on these 2010 models seeing as the did so for later models. it's unsafe to drive now for fear of getting into an accident. something needs to be done about this.

I was driving my 2010 ford fusion and my power steering just went out on me out of nowhere with no warning as i was turning right, making it so i couldn't turn the wheel. this caused me to hit a curb which lucky didn't damage my fender or bumper but damaged my right front tire causing it to be pushed back. now there is 'service power steering now' warning on my car. ford said i would need a new steering rack and i've seen so many other online with the same problem and a recall for the 2011 model, but not the 2010.

2010 ford fusion power steering light came on at 45 mph coming home. luck was on my side. i was one mile from home on a straight stretch of highway and started losing power steering. i got into my driveway and cut the car off . this was a friday.over the weekend i looked up the light code and got a lot of bad news about the recall that did not happen for the 2010 fusion on the power assist steering. i bought car new from ford. now has 101079 miles on it. try to move car monday. i could not move the steering wheel at all. i called the ford dealership and they got a rollback to bring it in to them. that was 125.00. tested for codes for 125.00. reset code and drove it for 12 miles and said it may come back on. quoted 2500.00 to replace parts and realign front tires..i am mad i did not get a letter warning about this when they recalled the 2011-12 models. the car will sit still til i get a recall notice. i cannot afford to repair it at this time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. after starting the vehicle, the power steering malfunctioned and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering wheel assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was 88,000.

Power steering has failed twice in the past week during driveway low-speed maneuvering following cold start and car became difficult or impossible to steer. in one of the two cases a fault message appeared. power steering was restored by turning engine off and restarting. no damage occurred due to low speed (1-3 mph) but had this happened a minute later two neighborhood children walking to their school bus would have been endangered.

The power steering keeps going out. when i start the car, the screen on the dash reads "power steering assist fault". when i restart the car, it works again. this has happened multiple times while stationary and i am terrified of the day it goes out while driving with my 3 kids in the car.

Power steering assist failure when starting engine.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 10 mph, the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 113,000.

Had multiple occasions of power steering assist failures while driving with near accidents each time (thankfully did not occur). power steering was restored after shutting off and back on. took into ford dealership and they stated that the electronic steering rack has an internal failure requiring replacement. 1966$ to fix. disappointed in ford and nhtsa for knowing that the 2010 ford fusions likely have similar issues to the recalled 2011-2013 ones yet choose to nothing about it. happy to provide documentation if requested.

When i start the car, the screen on the dash reads "power steering assist fault". i am unable to turn the wheel at this time. when i turn off and restart the car, it works again. this has happened multiple times while stationary in the past week.

I had a power steering assist fault error on my car with a advance trac error. i was unable to drive my vehicle and brought it in to the ford dealership to have serviced, after the inspection they called and said it is the power steering gear unit which needs to be replaced for $2189. obviously needing a vehicle i had to dish out the money which is unfair due to this same unit has been recalled on the 2011 fusions. please assist so we maybe refunded and get these faulty units off the road and repaired before someone gets killed.

While driving and trying to make at turn power steering locked up and caused me to run up a curb and blow out front tire. while i was on a busy street. this happened after my car was repaired from the takata air bag recall.

Power steering assist fault. it locked up and now states advance tracsystem error comes up now as well

Driving down the road and the service power steering lightcame on out of no where and my steering stopped working

Power steering assist failed while vehicle was parked and the engine was off. the car was derivable and taken to the dealer the next day. dealer reported that "pulled codes from pcm. found code p07ae: 09-c8". dealer quoted $2,100 to replace steering gear. i requested that they "reset codes" which was done. power steering assist began working. i believe that you are investigating this issue and that ford did recall some vin's but not others.

Car's steering failed and almost caused an accident. my daughter was driving and the power steering stopped while she was driving down a city after leaving the ford dealer for a airbag repair at 30-40 miles per hour. took it right back to ford dealer said it would be approximate $2000 to repair. we have had the car since 6,000 miles and now it has 65,000 miles.

In motion: brakes stopped working properly while driving (modulator for abs failed) and power steering locked up the steering wheel to the point that it required significant effort while driving which created a dangerous situation for my 17 year old daughter who had to stop in the middle of the street.

I don't seem to understand how this issue has not been an official recall yet directed by the nhtsa. out of 3806 (as of dec 20 2018) there are 1024 strictly related to steering. i as well as so many other ford owners have fallen victim to the failing of the electronic power steering assist. went out to go to work last night and power steering assist fault" continues to display, restarting vehicle does not seem to fix as others have stated. am glad this did not occur while driving as has happened in other reports. i am seriously questioning as others have if it is going to take an accident that kills someone before this investigation is taken seriously. from what i can see its somethings that has been well known since this time last year, yet people continue to have it fail, and nothing is done on fords part. they just keep collecting money from people that have no other option than to have them fix it. once the dealer opens i am going to be having to get the car towed to the dealer to have issue resolved, and i'm sure be quoted the $1,500-1,800 that others have been quoted, as well as be told "we haven't heard anything about this" until i mention all the reports, much like my door handle that broke, and wasn't until i talked to a different customer support agent that it actually was well known. what i'm seeing is issues which are very common, affecting hundreds to thousands of owners, but ford continues to says its not their problem, it hasn't been recalled so we must pay to get it fixed and be on our way. honestly thinking as others that even as happy as i have been in the past with ford, it will probably not be my vehicle of choice come time to buy a new car as recently issues that should be getting addressed are consistently not being addressed.

Steering:electric power assist system , faliure. the vehicle pulled hard to the right almost causing me to crash. on the highway .the electronic power system gave out on me .not safe to drive.there is a recall on newer models like 2011 but not 2010

My car had "power steering assist fault" come up on the dashboard after i started it in a parking lot and the lack of power steering made the car unable to drive safely. this warning had come on several times over the past few months, but the owner's manual for the ford fusion 2010 says to turn off the car for 10 seconds and restart if this happens (pgs 213-15). this had solved the problem the past few times. the message will not go away now even after restarting the car. i have seen that there have been many problems with ford's eps system, especially since 2011-2013 models have been recalled. i was fortunate that it happened in a parking lot, but wanted to report the incident.

Power steering failure while car in motion. steering extremely difficult, locks at random and steers car in unintended directions of travel. service power steering and advancetrac faults on dash.

Power steering assist fault

Steering intermittently locks up while driving on city streets. it is driven by a young driver, and i am upset to find out so many other people have this complaint and ford has not extended their recall to the 2010 model. this is a serious safety issue and it is not a coincidence when so many other 2010 fusion owners experience the same issue. ridiculous.

While driving fusion service down highway sunday(12-16-18) service power steering now light came on & couldn't turn steering wheel without complications & had to get home to park car before i hit something due to steering wheel too hard to steer, car shaking, and couldn't hardly keep in lane. the service advance light also came on & both remain on & little to no control left to steer the car so car remains parked. ford knows there are issues with this part and extremely costly repairs and part is a necessity to safely operate the car. this part should be recalled and repaired at the cost of ford motor not their customers who seek a safe car to transport themselves and their families in.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 65 mph, the power steering seized. the contact drove the vehicle home. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

After 3 years of the power steering assist fault and service advance trac warning messages the car finally held the code long enough for ford to diagnose the code. there are 4 control arms and the power steering rack that are bad in the car now and ford wants $2875 to make the repair which i cannot afford and now have a useless car.

I lost my power steering with no notice and was unable to control the vehicle.. good thing this happened as i was pulling into work not while i was on the highway. the power steering assist fault light came on and i lost all control of the car. my vehicle only has 49k miles. i see this is a known issue but ford has not recalled the 2010? ford needs to take accountability!

My 18 year old daughters 2010 ford fusion went in to a steering failure mode while in motion on a highway on her way home from school. the vehicles steering was inoperable for several miles and she was able to force the wheel with no power to make 3 turns to get to our home in the country. the message and fault cleared when the vehicle was turned off and restarted the next morning. it has happened 5-6 more times over the past month. i have taken her out of the vehicle in fear she will be involved in a serious accident.

I was driving home from the dollar store about three miles away from my home and as i was driving down the hill headed towards my house a light came on in the dash board. the next thing that happen was a warning came across that read " service power steering now". luckily i was not very far from and was able to make it into my driveway. i haven't drove the car since the incident thinking maybe it would reset, but it hasn't and the steering wheel will not even turn now.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the power steering failed right after the vehicle was started from a parked position. also, the power steering indicator illuminated regarding a power steering assist fault error. once the contact was driven home, it was restarted and operated normally. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 98,800. *tt consumer stated failure occurred as described on reverse side. all power assist failed vehicle home turned off - restarted and steering worked, haven't had problem since. ford recalled 2011-2015 same problem.*jb

After getting off of the interstate and heading to dinner with my girlfriend, everything was okay and running smooth. while heading back home, the "service advanctrac" and "service power steering" lights come on unexpectedly. so, i pull over, turn off the car and turn it back on. this solved nothing, furthermore it made the issue even worse. simply search "2010 ford fusion" on google and you'll see many stories just like mine in a matter of a few scrolls. the worst part of this whole thing isn't even the hundreds and hundreds of dollars that must be put into the repair. if my power steering would have went out while i was on the interstate, i would not be here today to tell my story. so, what's it worth to you, ford? is my life worth the $1,500 to you or will you let this continue to happen until a life is taken?... but that question might unfortunately be too late.

The electronic power steering went out when pulling in to a parking lot restaurant with no warning. as the vehicle was slowing down and the turn was already made off the highway, the power steering stopped working. parked the car ate and came back out to see if the problem was just a random issue, it was not. thankfully the parking lot was empty as it could have caused an accident.

The steering locked up and was an indicator that the steering needed to be serviced now! so cant steer the vehicle. i was at work to leave and couldn't move the steering wheel. i had all i could to move it out of the way. very dangerous needless to say.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was an electric power steering (eps) failure and the steering wheel seized without warning. the contact had extreme difficulty maneuvering the steering wheel when the failure occurred and the eps warning indicator illuminated. the dealer (mclarty daniel ford lincoln, 2609 s walton blvd, bentonville, ar 72712, (479) 250-0922) was notified. the dealer did not look for a diagnostic trouble code and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. the dealer and manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was not available.

While driving the car in town, the power steering was lost and a corresponding error light illuminated on the dash "service power steering now". the car became very hard to maneuver after the loss of the power steering system. thankfully my wife was not driving the car at the time as i don't she could have applied the amount of force to safely maneuver the car out of traffic.

I went to drive my car and lost all steering capabilities...the power steering was lost. i still had to get my car home which was still a safety issue without the power steering i was close to home and i was in a panic without the steering capabilities. the car was in motion to get it home. this was a very scary situation. if i had been on a major road this would of been a serious situation which would of lead to an accident not being able to steer the vehicle. there needs to be a recall for these power steering mechanisms.. i am surprised there hasn't been because i am aware there are thousands out there with the same problem. we have not moved the car from the garage yet to get it to a dealer still unsafe to drive. ford needs to recall all vehicles with this problem

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. after starting the vehicle, the power steering malfunctioned and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. the message "fix power steering" also appeared. the cause of the failure was not determined. the local dealer (liberty ford, 3101 center rd., brunswick, oh) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 25 mph, the power steering seized without warning. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.

While driving kids to school check autotrac and check power steering lights activated. after dropping kids off and arriving home, car was turned off. car was started again to take to garage to be checked, but wife could not turn wheel. husband with much effort drove 1/4 mile to garage. upon checking w/google have found hundreds of same complaints, some involving accidents.

Just like others have said the power steering in my wife's car went out. thank goodness she was parked when it went out due to the fact we are driving our 16 month old around in it. also just like the others we have been told it would be around 1,500.00 to 1,800.00 dollars to repair.

Upon starting the car the warning lights started to go off saying there was a "power steering assist fault". at that time, there was no power steering. the car could still be operated but was very difficult to steer.

Power steering went out. while going down the road.

Power steering assist fault warning came on and i couldn't drive. then i turned it off and on again and it worked. i am afraid to drive this car, if i could suddenly lose the power steering, especially since i am 7 months pregnant.

The steering assist and advance trac both came on and power steering no longer functions. it has been functioning fine for the last 8months i have owned the vehicle.

Sudden failure of the power assisted steering with the service power steering now and service advancetrac now messages. fully reverting to manual steering with no warnings until the event occurred. at the time of the failure the car was travelling on a straight section of a paved road at roughly 35 mph.
