I was sitting in the car with the air conditioner on for about 10 minutes with my children while my wife went to pick up a few groceries. when we left i put the car reverse and slowly took my foot of the break. the car then jerked backwards as my foot was softly on the break and then again when it was off the break. the car then stalled and the wrench light appeared. this has happened several more times since, mostly when the car is in "drive" with the air conditioner working hard and my foot either softly on the break or just off the break. the car will jerk forward. i'm not sure the component that is malfunctioning, but bellow is an educated guess.
I was pulling into my garage. i was coming to a stop and the car accelerated forward and can within inches of hitting my house. another time i was leaving my house. i put the car in reverse and with my foot on the brake it accelerated in reverse for several feet.
The vehicle sometimes accelerates when the vehicle is in a stopped position. if the brake is not pressed it will lunge forward. i have noticed that it appears to happen when the steering wheel is turned in either direction.
This vehicle unexpectedly surges forward when at a stop and when idling. even with your foot on the brake the car can still lunge forward five to ten feet. this seems to be an intermittent problem but has happened many times. this is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed right away before somebody gets injured. i am extremely disappointed in ford motor company for not addressing this issue yet. it is public record that this is a common problem with this vehicle. i would like to see a recall issued immediately.
I had to get my throttle replaced in my car due to involuntary lunging of the car. i have almost gotten in several accidents when my foot is on the brake and my car still lunges forward. i have to slam on the brakes in order to avoid hitting a car or a person. this is not an optional fix as it is clearly a safety hazard. i have seen several other complaints on this problem and hope that a re-call is issued. i spent nearly 1,000 dollars to get this problem resolved. this is not normal wear and tear. this is absolutely a defect. please issue a recall as it is only fair to consumers. *tt
While sitting at traffic lights or stop signs car has tendency to lurch forward while foot is on the brake. it also at times will make a sound as if something is hitting the engine when starting.
My 2006 ford freestyle lunges very quickly while my foot is on the brake after i put it in drive or reverse , usually forcing me to slam on the brake at which point the car stalls. this is very scary as it has happened in crowded parking lots and also into traffic. *tr
My 2006 ford freestyle suffers from peeling paint on the aluminum hood. the paint issue is confined to the 3 - 4 inches of hood back from the leading edge, the leading edge, and the underside of the hood. same issue as any ford product with aluminum hoods/liftgates. ford would not fix this issue under warranty even though their internal documents dating back to 2004 confirm the issue
We had been driving for approx. 3 1/2 hours and pulled over to a gas station. when i went to drive it again, i put it in reverse to back out of a parking spot and it lunged. i put on my brake fast. . it scared me. it had never done that before. it made it the rest of the trip. since then, it lunges every now and then.
When at a stop light or at a drive thru car will lurch forward when in drive. foot is usually on the brake pedal at the time, because it happens when i let off the brake to accelerate but the car accelerates on its own. the rpms go from 1 to 4 with no foot on the accelerater. air conditioning is always on when it happens. it also happens in parking lots. it is always when at a stop, getting ready to go. luckily i now know when it will happen and under what condition and have not hit anyone.

On several occasions, the car surges unexpectedly while idling (e.g. while stopped at a light, or immediately after starting the ignition). the effect appears to be exaggerated when the air conditioner is turned on. the throttle body/transmission maintenance light has come on during a few of the incidents. the throttle body control has been replaced once.
Each summer for the last few years when the temperatures reach over 100 degrees, we have a problem with the car surging while either parking or backing up. it seems to happen most often on short trips, usually when the air conditioner is still on high. the brakes will stop the car but you must keep your foot over the brakes even to back out of the driveway. this does not happen any other time of year. this year, 2011, the car sometimes stalls out when surging and now the check engine light has come on. the 2 codes that came up is p2106 throttle actuator control system forced limited & p061b internal control module torque calculation. the current mileage on the car is 34922.
Sudden "lurching" acceleration when idling, requiring a quick response to stop before crashing into other vehicles or lurching forward into oncoming traffic, or to avoid hitting pedestrians walking near the car. it happens both in forward and reverse, and is worse when the air conditioning is running. many times it will stall the car in the middle of the intersection. have had many near misses. ford now says it is probably the throttle body requiring approx. $800 to replace it. this is after we have had it into the dealership's service dept. numerous times and paid to have the problem tested/fixed to no avail.
On several occasions my 06 ford freestyle has had and unexplained jerk/lunge in motion. we purchased the car in oct 08 and the problems started nov 08. i have gotten to the point where i have had enough, and my faith in ford is slowly wilting away. the jerk/lunge normally occurs while coming to a stop at red light or stop sign, or going idle speed in the following places drive-thru, parking lot, while reversing or parking the car. today when i got back from the grocery store i was reversing into my garage and the car started to lunge i applied the break and it continued to jerk about a foot till it stopped. i was not sure the car would stop, this scared me half to death, i kept on thinking what if someone was behind me. i tried again and it happened 2 more times before i shut the car off. i then turned everything off in the car started the car again and put it into reverse and everything was fine. i was very grateful that this happened in my own drive way. if i was in a parking lot i could have hit a car with it moving a foot and i could have hit someone. the jerking/lunging in the car is very sporadic and has happened while my husband drove the car as well, so it is not operator error. it is so sporadic that this action is hard to recreate at a given notice you can not predict the time but you can anticipate that it will happen at least 3 times a week. some may think that if it is hard to recreate then it is not a problem, but if it happens at least 3 times a week that is something to look at especially when you are thinking about human life. a vehicle is not a luxury item especially to a military family like we are. it is a necessity that should be dependable and the manufacturer should stand behind there products. i have two small children and wonder what to do next. thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope there will be a resolution to this soon. *tr
Vehicle surges when idling in gear and at slow speeds when a/c is on. when in drive or reverse.
Multiple times, it seems, when we have the air conditioner on, our vehicle accelerates on its own. we have almost hit others in parking lots, intersections and on the road because of this. sometimes, it even accelerates on its own when the brakes are applied. our vehicle has also shut off when the air conditioner is on.
At low speed 0-5 mph +/- vehicle will suddenly surge. this can occur when moving forward, but most often occurs when vehicle is in reverse, as in backing into a parking space. the surge is very evident -- the engine revs and the vehicle speeds up. this will occur regardless of whether the accelerator or brake pedals are depressed. there is no evident correlation between the surge and other activities such as air conditioner use, weather conditions, etc. however, there does seem to a be a correlation with the vehicle's direction of travel and, possibly, engine temp. my observation is that the surge almost exclusively occurs 1) when the vehicle is in reverse; 2) at low speed or idle; and 3) after the engine warms.
Bought in aug 06. air unit working great! had to turn up the temp, because we got to cold. in june 07 started using unit and was not blowing out cold air. driver side blew out around 55-60 and pass. side blew out 65-70 air, even though the temp was set on 60. this car has the dual temp controls. had in to one dealer 6 times! they rechared twice and replace the control unit because it was different temps on each side. did not fix the problem. then took to another dealer in next twon, they have had the car for 2 weeks now! called and talked to ford and a tech, still have not found the problem or fixed it. they do admit there is a problem and it should blow out around 35-40. very frustrated! at what point do they just relpace ever part conected to the air condition? i just want my car back and fixed.
Vehicle engine accelerates to approximately 2100 rpms while in gear forcing it to lundge foward or reverse without the interaction of driver this problem seems to occur while at idle,and deceleration to stop, malfunction is becoming more problematic with mileage and age of vehicle. *tt
