My car wouldn't accelerate on getting on the interstate and would only go up to 40 mph - hard to get in from the ramp with other oncoming cars. it started surging and bucking. when i got off the interstate at the next interstate it again surged when i was going 20mph. very scary for me. when i stopped at the stoplight it stalled and i had trouble starting it. i put my hazards on for the rest of the trip home. i have been scared to drive it. i took it to the ford dealer and they said it was the throttle body and estimated $700 for the part and $200 for labor. i have had surging issues this past summer when i used the defrost or air conditioning but not anything this bad. i did call the ford company and have a case number - they would not help with the part or labor. i spoke with a manager...
The accelerator pedal is unresponsive and the vehicle will move very slowly at first, then unpredictably lunge forward at higher speeds. occasionally the pedal will immediately respond with rapid acceleration when lightly touched, causing the tires to spin out while taking off from a stop. altering the way pressure is applied to the accelerator has no effect. this has been happening for over 3 months without any check engine indicators, and only recently when the vehicle had trouble idling did a check engine light come on. the vehicle has been well maintained and lightly driven.
While idiling the car will surge. this happens more in hot humid weather. have had the trottle body checked and cleaned and this is still happening. if not for the fact that i have been able to apply more pressure to the brake i could have had a accident. this i have found to be a ongoing issue with these cars. this has happened while at stoplights, parking, driving at low speeds. the surging has happened several times today and seems to be getting worse.
My mom's 2006 ford freestyle, surges forward when using the air conditioner or defroster. there has been many times it has done this almost rear ending the vehicle in front of hher.this has been going on since beet and my deceased father have own it.(2010?) her instrument panel goes bonkers now, and sometimes the car won't start and the panic alarm goes off when we get out of the car.
My car will try to surge forward while at a stop with my foot on the brakes. it will happen while driving, in parked position, and while no gas or brake pedal is pressed. this happened in a pick up line and i could have hit a child if i hadn't hadn't my foot in the brake and done all i could to not move forward. sometimes i'm in reverse and this happens and it's like i put my foot down hard on the gas. there seems to be a connection to the ac unit, because when that is on it is making a loud sound. i went to carmax 3 years ago (in 2015) with this issue and they replaced the throttle body. now they are saying it needs to be replaced again. there is clearly an ongoing issue with this part in the car and it is a major safety concern. sometimes after the surge, my car will 'die'. this happened in the middle of 6 lanes of traffic while stationary at a red light. when it turned green, i couldn't go because my car had just surged and died with my foot on the brake pedal.

I was backing out of angle parking space. as i backed i bumped concrete pole. as i put car in drive to go forward the accelerator stuck wide open. i had no control of speed. i sped forward approximately 20 feet and crashed into the back of a parked pick-up. police were called. i was only bruised and sore. i did see a dr. and will continue to do follow up. my insurance co. totaled the car. it was very damaged on the driver side. someone could of been killed in this accident. my description does not adequately describe the seriousness of this incident. police and others could not believe i was not severely hurt. if theses cars are not recalled it is only a matter of time until someone dies if they have not already .
My vehicle has been surging (the gas) when i am at a complete stop for about a month and this week the car began to lose power while driving. the motor seemed to rev up, but the car didn't go anywhere very quickly. i took the car to a mechanic and he did a "3 part induction" on the vehicle. i am hoping that this will cure the problem since when i put "3 part induction" into the search engine in the computer i came up with a ford freestyle problems page with quite a few other people with the same issues. so i spent $150 for a cleaning and if that does not work i understand that i'll need to spend over $1,000 for replacement of the parts. i have also recently had brake issues. i just had my brake rotors and pads replaced 6 months ago for almost $600. took the car back the other day because so much brake dust on the wheels. back brakes are getting too hot and grinding.i was told the the hoses and the calipers on the back are both bad. they want $800 to replace them - then since the brake pads have a lifetime warranty they will replace them again. going broke over here.....
I was driving my car and the wrench indicator came on, my car would not accelerate. i've taken my car to the repair shop and was infromed there is a known issued with ford freestyle 2005-2006 and the cvt transmission. i reviewed and it appears ford knows this is an issue, but refuses to recall/repair it. i will be seeking legal action if ford does not pursue a recall on this vehicle and it's known issue with the cvt transmission.

I'm writing again. i've had a throttle body issue twice. the customer satisfaction program that ford did was a temporary fix. ford knew this. ford dealership mechanics have told them it doesn't solve the issue. less than a year after i had to the c. s. p. on my car i was stranded on side of road only to find out it was the throttle body i could have it cleaned and reprogrammed again at my cost which was nearly the same cost to replace. i had it replaced at my cost. in my situation the 1st time my car lunged forward toward wall of my home. i had to use both feet and all my weight to stop it. the 2nd time i lost power and control . all while trying to get out of heavy traffic. i could not get my car off the road and in a safe position. after this problem my ac will not work unless accelerating. and my motor went out. all this before i hit 100,000 miles. i've called ford and filed complaints with nhtsa. all to no avail. ford is replacing the same part for other vehicles at a full recall and no cost to the consumer my vin# is not assoc. with recall. i feel ford and nhtsa is ignoring the complaints from consumers this is a major safety issue. i feel that we consumers that have this problem need to file a class action lawsuit against ford & nhtsa. neither is addressing this serious safety issue. ford needs to take responsibility & nhtsa needs to force them to. continuing to ignore this issue is going to cause hearings on capital hill & a bad name for both. i will be following up with my state representative & my congress person. i intend to see that both ford & nhtsa stop ignoring the thousands of complaints regarding this serious safety issue. if you investigate you'll find newer models than mine have the same issue. same part same part number, mine and others of my year are not recalled while the others are & replaced. someone better take this serious.
As outlined in the class action lawsuit against ford filed in california, our car experienced a "sudden and unexpected cvt transmissions failure". this resulted in a "sudden loss of forward propulsion and delayed acceleration" when merging onto a 40 mph street. the check engine light, the wrench light and the traction control dash lights came on and the engine experienced high rpm's with little forward movement. we took the problem to authorized ford dealer who recommended repairs to the computer system costing us $2,000 even though it knew about the systemic transmission defect the ford general manager stated in a phone call this morning (6 13 2014) his service department has had two other ford freestyles in their shop presenting the exact issues as our car. following ford protocol resulted in a "final" diagnosis of transmission failure. point being, the local ford dealership admittedly had prior knowledge of the cvt transmission failures yet did not relay that information to us at the onset of the systemic defect. the vehicle sits in our driveway. it is not safe to operate as we elected not to replace the defective cvt transmission at a quoted cost of $5,000 plus installation. *js
When it had the air condition on i kept jumping. i was scared it was going hit another car. then i was on the expressway going 60 trying to pass a semi to get over and to get off and the car lost all power (shut off)omg panic. started it up about 10 times before i got it back home. *tr
On february 11th i had the recall done that reflashed computer and cleaned throttle body. the 12th and 13 it was unseasonably warm and the vehicle ran great. on the 14th the vehicle would not move at all. the temp was below 15 degrees. i could not drive my car for a month. when the temps went up into the 20's the car ran fine. i called the dealer to report the problem and was informed that the recall could only be completed once. on march 7th i cleaned the throttle body myself and found a ring of carbon around the butterfly. after cleaning the car was running good again. this was less than 400 miles after the recall had been completed. the symptoms of the jerking have gone away with the cleaning. the continuous problem seems to be the engine and malfunction light will come on and the vehicle reduces power and speed. seems to be at lower temperatures. yesterday it was 20 out and it did this. i have inspected the air and vacuum hoses to the throttle body and cannot find any loose, or broken. i have sprayed around throttle body gaskets while vehicle is running and can find no vacuum leaks. i don't think this is completely a throttle body issue. i believe the cvt transmission is to blame. in november i had the transmission fluids and sump filter changed. i did this because of the complaints of early transmission failure. usually the failure occurs when vehicle is under load, ie going up hills etc. and appears to be temperature related. *tr
There is a recall on the thottle body on the engine toke to a ford dealer had it repaired to what they wanted to fix afterwards it made matters worse now car will stall out when stopping or taking off or stopping to make turn almost been hit in the side a dozen times or more and almost rear ended same amount i feel that now it is become a true safety issue and talk to ford dealer that did the work and they said only thing they can do is replace it at 700 dollars when it was there refix that made madders worst. *tr
For about 6 months prior to 10/02/12 i began to have intermittent problems with my freestyle lunging forward in drive and your foot was on the brake, or lunging backwards at slow speeds in the same scenario. it had gotten so bad that troubles started bleeding over into the gears not catching when i put it in drive or reverse. it was throwing tons of codes, so i ended up having it towed to the dealership. they read the codes and said the throttle body needed to be replaced and hopefully after it's replaced the other codes will go away. so after a bill of $1038. the throttle body was fixed, or was it? my problems only continued, now we were into the cvt transmission. with my car still throwing tons of codes, it was determined that the tranny was bad. as i hung my head low, knowing what this involved, i kept trying to reset the codes and see how long she would go before she gave up again. 3 tows later and to a transmission shop, i ended up with a $3000 rebuilt transmission :-( the throttle body is a known issue, but yet ford doesn't have a recall and is allowing its loyal customers to pay out the ying-yang for this thing. the tranny, the same thing, because it's a cvt 'very special and no one works on them' lol, tons of people have done the same thing and only had the option to replace the tranny. i am so upside down in my car and tried like hell to get into another one but to no avail, did i mention i only have 75,000 miles on my car?! this is a tragedy to me. i've been a loyal ford owner for my entire life, and it saddens me to see so many customers that have the same car and are getting shafted because 'big money' doesn't want to address an obviously dangerous issue. hoping that by stating my concerns and what i had to go through that something will be done. i have my receipts and that's great and all but i'm also out $4,000...in this economy, that sucks for me. *tr

At a very low speed the throttle body stuck open, and the car lunged backwards. i had to slam on the breaks hard to not zoom out into the parking lot into a passing car. the check engine, "wrench" light came on and the lunging kept continuing both in forward and reverse for several seconds. finally, it appeared to stop once i put the car in neutral, and i was able to back out of the parking space. after that, there was something definitely wrong with the throttle itself. i was unable to accelerate into traffic at the necessary rate. this is a reoccurring problem as there are hundreds if not thousands of reports and complaints about 2005-2006 freestyles and 500s. i would hope that ford would do the right thing and recall this part for the safety of their customers and everyone on the roadway. *tr

Backing from driveway into the street, car surged but was able to stop it when brake applied. at that point the vehicle stalled. able to restart and continue without incident but warning "wrench" light was on indicating throttle / transmission fault was detected and service required. after restarting later that day no problems noticed and no warning light. this was the most severe case so far but had noticed some small surging in prior weeks both in reverse and drive when starting out both from cold start and from restart conditions. further research suggests this is a well know throttle body problem for ford freestyle / 500 / montego models from 2005 / 2006 timeframe. safety risk is significant, cannot let other family members or any less experienced operators drive this vehicle until the problem is addressed. replacement or at least maintenance for this known faulty system should be provided at no charge by the manufacturer. *tr

98 degrees (103 with heat index), sat in parking lot with ac on high for 3 - 5 minutes. backed out of parking stall, and approached stop sign. when hit brakes the car lunged forward. pulled out of lot and 'wrench' light came on and car wouldn't run right. tonight tested the car again and it runs fine. after reading online it sounds like this may be a common occurrence related to a throttle body failure/malfunction. *tr

Air temperature was 100 and my 2006 freestyle was idling. then, when stopped in city traffic, car surged unexpectedly requiring me to press hard on the brakes, then stalled. this happened twice. after sitting and cooling for 2+ hours, the car ran fine. however, check engine light remained on. because i am on vacation, i took the car to a dealer. the service department determined the problem was related to the throttle assembly, which he said was pretty common. replaced the assembly for $1300 for fear the problem could happen again on the highway. *tr
While foot on the brake the car lurched forward like the gas went by itself. then at a stop light the light turned green and applied the gas. the car would not go. the gas peddle was all the way to the floor. later i put the car in reverse and the car stalled and died. my wife is scared to death and is afraid it is going to crash into another car. i took the car to my trusted auto repair place. they stated this is a know problem with the freestyles and surprised it was not recalled yet. *tr
after filing a complaint on or about 6/28/12 (odi number 10463545) in regard to another 2006 ford freestyle i own and operate, i now have to report the identical defect with my other 2006 freestyle. after parking my first freestyle until repairs can be made, this freestyle (now being reported) has become the major transportation vehicle of the household. now this vehicle has begun surging in rpms and 'lunging' whenever the brake is released. this occurrence was in 95 degree weather with the air conditioner running. i don't know if the outside temperature plays a role in the defect occurring but both vehicles were at maximum operating temperatures, had been running for a length of time whereas a higher 'cold engine' idle would have no bearing on the occurrences. since i haven't an extended warranty on the first vehicle i reported on 6/28/12 (a recent purchase), i have ordered an electronic throttle body w/tps (non-heated which is obviously a ford supercession) and will attempt to replace it myself as a cost savings measure. since filing my issue i've found via the internet that others with the same problem have paid upward of $1,200.00 to have this work performed. after ordering my parts i have discovered that this particular throttle body was installed on 2005-2007 ford freestyles as well as their ford five hundred (of which i also own a 2007 model year of with approx 20k miles). is there any truth to the rumor that bad luck always comes in three's? i certainly hope not!! as of earlier this morning (7/01/12), with a cool temperature of 75 degrees f., this defect did not re-occur, but my other vehicle also began to 'act up' as an intermittent problem that eventually wouldn't go away. *tr
While driving the ford revs up and down, while it is doing this it lurches forward and i lose all dashboard instruments, i cannot use the air conditioning because it makes the problem worse.the scary part is i have my family in the car when all this happens. on thursday june 21 i was driving down the highway at 50miles an hour when suddenly the car rpm revved up and down on its own the speedometer went out, the lights all flashed. the car was lurching forward, and it was worse when i was attempting to slow down. my daughter stated"i am scared" i cannot believe that this has not been recalled, when we were at the ford dealership we bought the car from we told them what was happening, they didn't even offer to look at the car or seem to care. the problem is very unpredictable, one day it runs good then all of the sudden it freaks out. *tt

Car was sitting, parked in a lot, idling for about 10 minutes with the air conditioner running. when i put it in drive and let my foot off the brake, the car lunged forward as the rpm's first revved and then dropped. the car did this a few times, but once i got turned around toward the exit of the lot, it stopped doing it. about 20 minutes later, in a grocery store parking space, it did the same thing as i was backing out to leave. the car had sat running for another 10 minutes or so with the air on. this time however, the car idled up and then down, lunged in reverse, and then idled so low it died. once i restarted it and finished backing out of the space, i turned the air down to low fan speed and the car was fine the rest of the trip back home. *tr
While at a stop light waiting to make a left turn with the air conditioner on, the rpm shot up and the the car started to lunge forward. i almost hit someone in the cross walk before the car killed in the middle of the intersection. this has happen many times according to my wife this is her car and i never drive it. after reading all the complaints about the throttle body i decided to post my story. please help before someone gets hurt or worse killed. also it was hard to restart and very slugish till we shut off the air. my wife has told me that this has been going on for almost a year but that i really didn't know how bad it was till it happened to me. there really needs to be a recall on this before it is to late. *tr
My 2006 ford freestyle surges mainly in reverse, but also does it in drive at times. the first time it surged i thought maybe my foot had hit the accelerator and dismissed it. i started driving this car in october of 2010 and had not experienced the problem until then, but now it happens frequently. i have no idea about previous owners or the car's history so i only know how it has been maintained since i have owned it. also there are 2 technical service bulletins that are also wrong with my car. tsb 07-1-8 and 06-11-4 i think that since ford knows there are problems with this cvt transmission that they ought to recall the vehicles and repair them. *tr
Our '06 freestyle lurched forward while attempting to allow a pedestrian to pass in a parking lot. the engine speed increased and more brake pressure had to be applied to stop the car. slight engine revving was first noticed at a mileage of ~60,000 miles and grew over the next 10,000 to the point of the car actually lurching forward unless heavy pressure was applied on the breaks. eventually, i learned that if i had the a/c on max, vehicle stopped and idling, light pressure on the brakes, a turn of the steering wheel would make the car lurch every time. the lurching made parking, especially parallel parking, which requires the steering wheel to be turned right and left, a risk to nearby pedestrians. on-line posts and forums led me to clean the throttle body and the problem has been fixed for the past few hundred miles. *tr
While traveling home from holiday, my wrench light came on in the car and we could smell the engine beginning to overheat. my engine was trying to lunge forward even though i had the cruise control on. my vehicle then started to decelerate and i barely made it off from the highway via an exit ramp. pulled over, turned off the car and opened the hood to let the engine cool off. i thought the problem may be gear or transmission related or perhaps bad gas. i tried a trick told to me by mechanic friend to back up the car and go forward approximately 40-50 feet, stop the vehicle and repeat the movement again to reset the transmission controls. i also added fuel injection cleaner and filled the tank again. after fuel injection and letting the car sit, it was okay for the rest of the trip. had another incident just recently (july 2012). the same wrench light came on and my car once again lunged and decelerated and i had to pull off. luckily, there was a gas station at exit again. and, luckily, i was able to maneuver through traffic when decelerating without harm to my family. i bought more fuel injection cleaner and filled the tank. i then let the car sit again. that seemed to help. we made it home after another rest stop for the car. shortly after, my husband used throttle body cleaner to clean out my fuel injection pathway. he removed air connection and found the throttle body to be clogged with gunky material and sprayed a good dose of the cleaner into it while i gunned the engine to clear it out. i am now using fuel injection cleaner with every gas fillup to mitigate the problem. i know i probably need to replace the whole throttle body, but i am leary from what i've read on internet with others having same problem, replacing throttle body and then it having to do it again a year later. i am going to fix car and then probably sell it. not safe anymore. *tr
The throttle will race up especially while coming up to a stop. i belong to a couple of forums that people have tried many of times to get this serious repair recalled. one person even pinned their child against the garage wall. i have not fixed mine yet as ford garage says it is about $750 repair. my wife almost took a guys door off. as she pulled into a parking spot a guy was getting out of the car and as she pressed the brake harder it made the throttle increase. the guy then though she was deliberately trying to run him over. we had to demonstrate the issue of this and then he understood. i just cant believe that ford can get away with this throttle issue. *tr
After purchasing (as a used car) for my daughter, vehicle began rapid acceleration and 'lurching' unexpectedly when shifting into forward or reverse. after several days, this was compounded by occurring when starting and stopping in traffic during brake application. i had the filters replaced (air and gas) and the problem seemed to have gone away. i asked my dealership, during my first inspection after it's purchase, wether there was a tsb in regard to this issue and would they please check it out. they alleged that they had no record of any defect regarding this issue and no tsb had been issued. they did however refuse to complete the inspection until i allowed them to overhaul the rear brakes w/new rotors for quite a kingly sum! (so much for a promotional 'free inspection'.) last night i had to venture out and retrieve the vehicle from my little girl after the car kept 'lurching' everytime she used the brake. while she was waiting in an intersection attempting to make a left turn, the car 'lurched' and stalled in front of oncoming traffic. after restarting the car an engine light and a 'wrench' was now visible on the dash, and the car had absolutely no accelerator! due to our flat terrain i was able to bring the car home on an idle at a speed no greater than 10 m.p.h. once safely home i tried a trick that used to work on the fleet busses i once worked on. that was rapidly turning the ignition switch on-off, on-off repeatedly about 10 (ten) times, then leave switch on and start it. this seemed to have cleared the 'wrench' and the accelerator was restored. the engine light did not clear. i've put tires, struts, strut mounts etc. into this car to make it safe for my daughter to drive, yet i can't allow her to use it. 4 of 5 cars i own are fords, 2 being 2006 freestyles, and this is the only one that i have had a problem with. what recourse do i have now? *tr
My complaint mirrors verbatim others related to the may 2011 investigation opened into the "lunging" at slow speeds for the 05-07 ford freestyle. the ac, hot temps, & lunging. one occurrence traveling 60mph & began to "stall out" & slow on major highway with three children in car. any pressure on fuel pedal no result. busy traffic, could only travel max 35-40mph. put flashers on & struggled to make it to repair shop. turned off ac in 100 degree heat to get any kind of response from engine. i was worried & feared for mine & my children's safety. vehicle would barely accelerate thru intersection after stopping for red light. finally made it to shop. vehicle was placed on machine. codes appeared: p061b alter fuel control module error, p2106 throttle actuator forced limited. took vehicle to ford house & explained issues as well as codes from previous shop. was told would be $100 for ford to hook up for a dx. if the codes i had were same,would cost est $800 to repair. as mom of 3 & who drives great distances for work, this repair asap. have had many occasions if not had foot firmly on brake the vehicle would've caused a wreck at stop light, pulling into, out of parking lots, etc. car literally drives itself in d/r at 10mph with no acceleration at all after placing in d/r. on 8-12-12 was in drive thru line & car lunged at high rate of speed forward after barely lifting foot off brake. came mm from slamming into vehicle in front. put car in p & the vehicle died. wrench/engine light came on. turned engine off, turned ac off & restarted the car. i can only imagine what would've happened if this had occurred at a stop light in a busy intersection? this issue is a fatality waiting to happen. this cannot be a fluke random issue if you have rec'd 238 prior complaints regarding the exact same issue. i urge nhtsa to place a recall, if for the only reason to save lives. *tr updated 08-03-12 *bf updated 09/07/2012 *js
My car was parked and idling with the air conditioning on (husband was in the passenger's seat, and kids in the back and it was very hot), i got into the car, put it in to reverse with my foot on the brake and it surged backwards going very fast. it almost hit a lady but i was able to slam down hard on the brakes and stop it. i then drove it limping along because it wouldn't' shift, to the nearest dealer. there they replaced the throttle body and some fluids and charged me 1000.00. it hasn't happened since but now that i know it is a common problem and can reoccur, i am looking for another vehicle to replace this one. *tr
This makes the second time i have complained about this problem. it seems that ford has no plans to rectify the "throttle body" issue although there are many that have voiced the same concern with their vehicles. this issue is a severe safety risk. i have had several incidences, all involving surging, followed by a sudden loss of power. there have also been instances of sudden loss of power upon acceleration after idling at a stop sign or red light. this happens randomly and there is no warning beforehand. once, i was passing a truck and pulled into the passing lane and the freestyle completely lost power. i was "hanging" in the passing lane with no power and no way to avert a collision had there been oncoming traffic or traffic behind me. thank goodness, i had time to brake and force the freestyle onto the shoulder. this also happenes at stop signs and red lights when i accelerate. very dangerous.
Lost power from the engine causing lost speed. unable to accelerate. engine sputtered. since the first episode, i have had continued episodes. typically worse when the engine warms up. car completely stopped and was unable to restart the engine on a trip of about 75 miles. had to have the car towed to a local dealership. we have replaced ignition coil, spark plug, intake manifold gaskets, throttle body assembly without improvement of the condition. *tr
On increasingly frequent occasions, my 2006 ford freestyle sel fwd vehicle has surged (or lunged) during very low/0 speed maneuvers, such as turning into, or backing out of a parking space/garage; queuing up in a right or left turn lane, or waiting at a stop light/sign for traffic to clear; or navigating tight passages, i.e., parking garage exit lanes and drive-through lanes. the problem seems to be exacerbated by hot weather and/or a/c operation and/or steering wheel movement. this problem had occurred prior to 9/6/2011, but with very rare frequency. now however, i am experiencing this problem on an almost daily basis. i am deeply concerned that there is a real safety issue developing with this model. if i don't have my foot firmly planted on the brake, the car can surge (fairly rapidly) forward or backward a good 10 - 20 feet.
My 2006 ford freestyle limited has major electrical problems. i have had the car lunge on me, at 0mph it would lunge forward, and in reverse. fortunately i had my foot on the brake every time. i don't think it is the transmission. i have a feeling that it is all electrical. i have had the lunging problem since last year. (2011) and the car has been deteriorating since. yesterday i got "check charging system" and now it kills all of the lights and gauges... yet it still kind of ran.(not very good up hill, and no indicator lights, no speedometer nothing.)another recent problem i have is the center engine (shock?)mount is busted. *tr

My ford freestyle has had engine surging issues for approximately a year know. today 6/21/2012 my car started surging at every stop light so severely if we weren't holding down the brake we would of hit the car in front of us. the problem became so severe we had to put the car in neutral at every intersection to keep car from trying to jump into the intersection and stall. today's temp was in the high nineties and we were using the air conditioning. today's incident was the worst its been. went on line and search the symptoms and found that a lot of freestyle owners are having the same issue. with the safety of the car owner and pedestrians that could be near the car in jeopardy. ford should be recalling these cars and trying to find a permanent solution to fix this rather then charging the owners high dollars to replace a defective designed part with the same defective part. *tt
My 2006 ford lunges. it also loses power and cuts off while trying to drive. this happens everywhere and anywhere. even if my foot is on the brake it will lunge forward or backward it does no discriminate. this happens all the time. it's also worse when the air conditioning is on. this could potentially be a serious situation on the highways and local streets, if the car is just cutting off while driving down the road. lunging forward/backward could become potentially serious as well. i really hope that ford takes responsibility for these issues. especially since they stopped making the freestyle what 3 yrs later. it seems to me that they realized there was some kind of an issue why else would they quit making it? i have to say other than that major problem of lunging and going through rear brakes the car itself is wonderful and not my first ford. i love ford vehicles, unfortunately i am a little disappointed with this one. if ford would take responsibility and fix it that would be great! i can't afford to fix it nor get another vehicle. i feel like i have a lemon on my hands. *tr
.while stopped in traffic, this vehicle will, without warning, lunge forward. this has happened many many times. i have been told that the problem is the throttle body, a part that cost around 900 dollars. i feel that ford should fix this problem because of the serious safety implications. *tr
I was stopped and in a line of vehicles in a parking lot with my foot on the brake and the engine surged. fortunately, i had my foot on the brake with sufficient pressure to keep the car from lunging forward. this occurred several times while in the parking lot with the engine going into (limp mode) forced limited power mode. i drove the car directly to the ford dealer where the car was purchased. the mechanics did not detect any diagnostic trouble codes and sent me on my way. since then there have been probably six (6) more events without the engine going into forced limited power mode. in all events the engines surges to approximately between 1500rpm and 1800rpm with the car in drive and the foot securely on the brake. the event generally lasts less than 5 seconds. all events occurred during summer months. last event was this past wednesday when my son was driving the car. i witnessed the event as a passenger. the two codes that came up are p2106 and p061b. i purchased a tester to read the codes. current mileage is 77995. researching the potential cause of this problem led me to your site and prompted me to file a complaint. *tr
In the summer when the a/c is running when i'm backing up or pulling forward it many times will unexpectedly lunge. i've almost hit people and kids, cars, curbs, buildings, etc. many of the times that it lunges it will stall or begin to run very rough. we have to put the car in park and cut off the car and restart. many of those times it will begin to run normal but have a indicator light that it needs mechanical attention. once the car is parked and sits for a while when it is started the mechanical attention light will discontinue. yet every time the a/c is running especially on high it will lunge almost every time. it is very dangerous in that if my foot would not be on the brake hard enough when it lunges and a kid or person would be in the line of the lunging car. dangerous! *tr
I would be sitting in line at school to pick up grand daughter with air on, let off brake to move forward and car would surge this continued, but fortunately i wasn't picking her up as often. i could not turn air on. my freestyle now only has 58,947miles(approx.). sometime in 2012 i received a letter from ford offering to clean the throttle body. i had it cleaned then it sounded like a truck and smelled like gas. the last few months it dies on the highway. i'm afraid to drive on busy roads. i had my car diagnosed, they say it is the throttle body which is messing up the computer. i have contacted ford distributor to no avail. i am trying to get funds together to take care of this problem. i understand this is not an isolated case. the problem might be that ford only sold freestyles for a few years. *tr
My 2006 ford freestyle lurches forward at 0 to 5 mph. the lurching occurs even if i do not press the pedal. it is dangerous at intersections and when trying to park. a mechanic replaced the egr valve and it is still lurching forward..from what i have found on the internet it seems that many others are having the same problem with this vehicle. *tr
