When driving there is a clicking from the front end and feels like transmission slipping.
January 2015 went to accelerate from stop at traffic light, indicator light on dash came on transmission went into limp mode.had vehicle towed needed a transmission rebuild with torque convt. had 177k at that time at cost of $2700.00. october 2019 similar situation occurred no warning lights no slipping, banging or anything out of the ordinary. stopped at traffic light, went to accelerate and car felt as if it was in neutral. had car towed to transmission shop, was told it will need a rebuild with another torque convt. at approx. same cost. vehicle now has 233k miles on clock. this vehicle has been a real reliable asset to our family. this transmission lasted almost 5 years with approx. 56k miles. i would like to purchase another ford , but concerned about the drive train as i drive this vehicle very easy. thank you for looking into this concern.
Just recently bought 05 ford freestar van, 3 months ago in my driveway it refused to go forward, i parked it because i had something else to drive. morning of december 30, 2019 my other automobile timing chain broke so i've been trying frantically to fix this van, i've replaced air cleaner sensor, throttle body sensor, and speed sensor. nothing. i have reverse but no drive, engine seems to run fine. so i checked for recalls. i just don't know if manufacturer is still liable. 05 ford freestar van, miles 211375, vin#[xxx]. my name: [xxx] if you need anything else please let me know. i don't know how this process works. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Takata recall was driving are van when the transmission stoped working van only has 71,000 miles on it i think it should be recalled due to them useing the same transmissions in the other cars and vans that were recalled
'takata recall' 1)transmission/torque converter output shaft fail. loss of control of my vehicle while in motion leaving my home in my neighborhood. almost causing my children and i to wreck into a parked car.
When i was driving down the highway the vehicle started losing power but the engine was starting to race the vehicle slowed down to a stop causing me to be stuck in the middle of the highway with cars going around me the police came by and had to push me off to the side of the road to a safe place so i can have the vehicle towed .found out the trans torque converter stopped working .just like the recall 11s25

I was stopped at a red light on us hwy 17. vehicle has run fine then the light turned green and would not move motor reved up when you select gears you can hear the transmission work but no power this happened in a 6 lane hwy in myrtle beach sc
I was to the on us hwy 98 in lakeland fl when i approached the street light that turned red. when i stopped the caravan would not go into gears toward or reverse worked and i was in the middle of traffic very heavy and dangerous possision. had to push of the road and wait for several hours before help arrived. than i googled recalls and i seen that ford made a recall on the make model and year of the caravan. i am not sure of how this possess works but the ford company says that they will fix the issues with the torque converter.
Transmission goes in and out of gear when warm. shifts perfectly until warm. ford minivan transmissions are so bad!!! why??? ford fix my transmission!!!!
Torque converter and output shaft. when accelerating internal shaft splines sounds stripped with no power to go . tachometer in take off reves up when changing gears.
While driving down a city road at any speed, rpms will suddenly increase slightly, then vehicle will drop in rpms creating a sound similar to a horse neighing. sometimes vehicle will loose all motor power, which will require a shift into neutral, turning off key then turning on key, restarting engine. this will typically happen when turning onto a road from a dead stop, or when going up hill. this is an on going issue since purchase of the vehicle. vehicle was purchased via side of road deal on 6/14/2017, at 189,000 miles. vehicle is now at 190000. in field of "when did this happen date will be purchase date. hard to provide documentation since video would be better to provide proof of problem.
Vehicle was making a sound kind of like a misfire in the air intake or back fire in the exhaust. listened several times and sounded like the noise was actually coming from under the vehicle. took it for a diagnosis to j&a transmission in morris, il their diagnosis was it's the torque converter which is a recall for this year make and model but ford is unwilling to help us be safe and repair the issue since our vin isn't listed in their system for the recall. nhtsa issued the recall for all 2004-05 models. see pe09-033
On june 5th 2017 we hit a deer with our van on the drivers side. after the deer hit the van the deer spun around and went under the van. the van was driveable and there weren't any fluids leaking. on our way home that same night when you would get up to 60 miles per hour it would jerk really bad in the transmission. well when we had the damage on the side of the van fixed we had them look at it. they couldn't find the problem then. we took it back to them again and it was getting worse. they figured out that it mow had a bad torque converter.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to highway ford (18982 johnnie b hall memorial highway, deridder, louisiana 70634) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
While driving the rpm would drop to zero and no power would go towards movement. then rpm would suddenly jump to over 1500 causing my van to lurch and jump even while brake was applied. i was driving within the city, speed of 30 mph.
2005 ford freestar recall i have a 2005 ford freestar and didn't know that it had been recalled. i was driving an hour away from my home when coming down an extremely busy offramp the transmission just stopped working. it took me an hour at least to get the van to the side of the road as people were honking and flying down the offramp. i had my two kids with me and they were terrified. i looked up the symptoms of my vehicle and discovered the recall of the torque converter and how it can kill the transmission immediately so i felt confident ford would help s the van had a recall on the torque converter and i had it towed to phil long in springs, because it quit shifting in the springs, and they told me today it was the transmission. i did research and its doing the same thing all 05 freestars were doing to get recalled. the guy at the service place also said that it had already been fixed which was not true because i ran the vin previously ten he tod me it was the whole transmission but i don't trust them. i should still have a new torque converter put in as well right? i called a ford dealership and the lady who answered the phone said that she doubted my vehicle was recalled but i assured her i had already called and checked so she told me to have it together. i called roadside assistance. when i had the van towed to phil long in colorado springs they were very rude. initially they didn't want to help but i explained the row truck driver already left it. they asked us to wait i'm the waiting area for quite a while then told us they'd fix the torque converter thursday. after waiting a week with no transportation they told me they would need 4500 to fix it. i don't know what to do i can't affordable another vehicle or the repairs and it doesn't seem fair that even though this has happened to so many people ford still profits so much.
Vehicle was once under recall for torque converter but actual problem is water seeping into the pcm. the vehicle suddenly has shifting problems, suddenly loses all power while driving, sometimes won't go into gear at all, and knocks and shudders very intensely while accelerating. the vehicle performs all these while driving or stationary on all streets at all speeds. the problem initially it intermittent and progressively gets worse.
Had the torque converter replaced as per recall at 53692 miles. two years and 12000 miles later the van lost power on the road. dealer estimated $1300 to diagnose and $3000 if it is the transmission.
My van just suddenly lost all drive power. it wont go forward or back. it shudders and doesnt accelerate properly.
Backed out of driveway and noticed that the transmission seemed to hesitate or shudder. pulled onto interstate and transmission shifted very sluggishly and started slipping. pulled off the road and vehicle would not move. with transmission in gear, engineering just reved. had to have vehicle towed home. the next morning the vehicle would move but continues to shudder/slip. went online and discovered recall. had received no notice from ford.
In motion and in drive on state route 309 the vehicle suddenly and without warning lost all ability to move. we had myself, my husband, my three daughters (17, 10, and 1) plus our new born son in the vehicle. the vehicle had to be coasted to a near by gas station but not before being very close hit in the back by a semi truck. the vehicle was placed in park, then drive again to see if the vehicle would go into gear. the vehicle failed to go into gear. the other gears on the vehicle were tested only to confirm the vehicle would not go into any gear or move. at this time ford corperate had been contacted and they suggested we pay to have it towed to the nearest ford repair garage. (we has just got the vehicle back 4 days prior to the inability to move, to have a power train sensor they diagnosed as bad because the power train light had been blinking and the vehicle had been jerking when put into drive.) unable to have the vehicle towed to ford, due to lack of funds from the previous week, we had to push the vehicle home.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. while driving in reverse at approximately 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted; however, the transmission failed to operate in the desired gear selection until several hours later. the failure recurred on a separate occasion. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter and transmission would need to be replaced. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v006000 (power train). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000. the vin was unavailable.
An incident from about a month ago: after traveling on the freeway and coming to a stop at a red light at the off ramp at 2am, my car began to sputter and rev. i proceeded to the next red light where my car shut off. every time i started it, it would shut off right away. i drive for a taxi service and luckily i did not have passengers in the car with me at the time. i called a family member to come look and help. he ended up pushing my car with his into a nearby parking lot. after some investigation, i concluded it was the pcm. it was taken out to dry completely and the windshield area where water may have leaked into it was sealed with silicone. it started working again fine and has been since then. now it has rained again and the problem has reoccurred. today, after driving on the freeway and entering a neighborhood, my trans-axle light started blinking. then my oil and battery light appeared and seconds after my steering wheel stopped turning and the car shut off. i was able to park in the street and restart the car, but once i put it in drive and moved about 1 foot, the car shut off again. it will turn on and stay idle, but once i start moving, it shuts off again. it has been raining the past 2 days. i suspect it is from the same issue as before. i also had my children in the car with me as i was taking them to school. i'm very lucky this did not happen on the freeway or major street.

On freeway, car lost all forward power. motor running. made it to shoulder. shut all down. started motor..put in gear.. managed to get home please see. carcomplaints.com
My van won't go into reverse and sometimes won't even go into drive. the torque converter was flushed out again after it was supposedly replaced due to recall and is still sputtering and stalling out. they tell me now i need a new transmission at 50k miles another $4k. the van was in the driveway with the health dept. here to do work and i couldn't get it in reverse to move it for them to put in my septic. after pushing it backward i was able to put it in drive to get around the house' it has not wanted to get out of park at the doctor's office and finally worked with the shifter until it finally went to reverse-backed out-then drive. i was sitting in the middle of a busy lot when it wouldn't go into gear. took it to ford and they say i either needed a tcm or a new transmission. had my van for 2 days before telling me i needed a new transmission. i only paid $5300. for it and they want $4k for a transmission. the van is a 2 owner vehicle and i bought it with 41k miles. then ford says that they don't rebuild that transmission-because it is crap and i need a new one. this is not right. other people have complained of this same thing happening to them. they need to recall this transmission before someone really gets hurt. in driving the van stalls for no reason going 30 to 40mph. people will run you over. my husband is disabled and we can't be worried all the time if the van will get us to the doctor or any place else safely. now, while the van is in the shop again for another transmission i have no way to transport my husbands scooter to take him to the doctor. the van was bought to transport him and the scooter. without a reliable van i am screwed! i will never buy a ford ever again. you need to get on this recall for the tranny. please help these people like me. another death trap just like the pinto. .we should be reimbursed for our time and money. it isn't right.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle failed to shift into gear. the contact mentioned when the vehicle shifted into gear, it made a humming noise and stalled. after waiting for a moment, the vehicle was restart but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the torque converter failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 142,000. the vin was not provided.
My freestar was recalled for trans problem, it broke down while i was driving about 3 yrs ago, ford in watkins glen ny fixed it ,it ran sluggish like it did before it broke down, i just thought "oh well i guess that's how they ran", now three yrs. later i'm having the same problem its trans is not working again, could they have possibly repaired it with another faulty trans (torque converter) it broke down just like it did before it was repaired. iv'e spoken to other freestar owners that have told me there freestar ran much better after there trans was fixed, ...both times my vehicle was in motion when the trans stopped moving, on a city street. i do believe my problem is do to another faulty torque converter. i live in n.j. now, so what can i do? thank you! *tr
Drove the vehicle 1 mile to kids school on the way back it lost power , wouldn't accelerate .. the #40 fuse was blown and every time i replace it as soon as i turn the key on it blows again. can't drive it and just seems like electrical problems keep occurring with it last time was water in the pcm causing other issues, may be the pcm again i don't know but these free stars are bad for this evidently. . bad design and definitely bad for business..
The speeded up and lost power right in the middle of traffic. it was frightning.

I am currently dealing with an issue that i find many posts and complaints about on my 2005 ford freestar. i was driving around a corner and the car just shut down completely. i got the car pulled over safely thankfully because i had my three children in the vehicle with me at the time. i can start the car and put it into drive and reverse. the car goes into gear but when i hit the accelerator pedal it has no power. the engine revs and rpms go up but no movement. the transaxle light is flashing and the check engine light is now on as well. from all of the research i find this is a problem with the pcm getting wet. it was raining today with around an inch of rain today alone. there was no warning when this happened. the van was running just fine and then it just shut down and started malfunctioning. this is a widely known problem. there are complaints about this all over the internet. why is ford able to get away with this even after the service bulletin about it years ago. does somebody have to die before you will step in and make ford do something about this? this is the second major problem i have had with ford vehicles. now i know why my father used to call them "freaking old rebuilt dodge" ford is a terrible company that makes crap vehicles and does not stand behind them when serious safety issues arise. they sure can take the tax payer money when they need help though. what a joke!!!! for once please step in and make this right before somebody does get killed. there are many worse stories out there than mine! *tr
My van had a recall 11s25 for a faulty torque converter. i had it replaced 8/7/2013 with 72690 miles at huff ford in wytheville, va. it started having the same symptoms last tuesday. i had it checked at huff ford in wytheville, va, they could not duplicate the problem, but it continues to "shudder" at different times. when i asked about the torque converter being covered because of the recall i was told there was only a 12 mo 12000 mile warranty. is that all ford is required to do for this continuing torque converter/transmission problem? any help would be appreciated. thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle jerked and a loud noise was heard near the front of the vehicle. in addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate as the rpms reduced. the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 12v006000 (power train). the failure mileage was 102,000.
Vehicle loses power, erratically shifts gears, rpm gauge bounces around and check engine light comes on. i later find that the error code is p1740 (torque converter clutch inductive signature malfunction) after further research i see that there was a recall for this model and year of vehicle for this exact problem yet my specific vehicle is not covered under the recall. i bought this vehicle from a used car dealership and i believe they knew about this problem beforehand and kept it from me, telling me how good and reliable this vehicle is. the vehicle still drives for now but who knows how long and whether any additional damage may be done just by continuing driving it. i bought this because we needed a safe family vehicle and now i'm out all the money i spent on it without enough left to fix it. i obviously can't drive my family around in it and risk it just shutting off in the middle of driving down the road. *tr
I was driving on i 95 south in north carolina over 2 hours from home when the transmission disengaged with no warning. i had to coast to the shoulder and cross one lane of traffic in the process. i am very upset about this because i had 5 children in the van with me at the time. i had to have the vehicle towed to the closest dealership and find my own way home. i researched and found that there is a recall for the torque converter. i called the dealership today and asked if this would be a covered repair because f the recall and they suggested that it would more than likely not be, although they need to diagnose the problem first. the symptoms are consistent with what i have read online for this recall. *tr
I was mid turn when the gas pedal stopped working with a loud grinding sound. it would not shift back into gear and the loud grinding sound still persists. *tr
On christmas eve 2014 i got into my recently purchased 2005 ford freestar minivan to run a short errand. after starting my freestar i put it in reverse but the vehicle would not move. i tried all the forward gears with the same result, the vehicle would not move. the engine rpm's would go up but no movement. i turned the vehicle engine off and on several time with the same results each time. i had to wait till the day after christmas to contact my local ford dealership service department and describe my problem. they looked up my vin number and said that all recalls on my vehicle had been done including the torque converter recall. i then had my freestar towed to the dealership to investigate the problem. upon investigation it was determined that water had gotten into my powertrain control module, and that is what was causing the problem. they removed the module and dried it and the connector out then reinstalled it and sealed it. after reinstalling the module they then started the vehicle and were able to shift the vehicle into all the gears and get the transmission to fully function, but now there was a service engine light on. the vehicle now would not idle properly and had a hesitation when trying to accelerate. it was determined after further checks that there were fuel codes coming up and that they were related to the pcm getting wet. it was determined that the powertrain control module (which ford no longer manufactures) would need to be replaced. to fix the problem it would be a cost of $1000.00 for a re-manufactured module and reprogramming in addition to the $650.00 that had already been incurred for the work that had been done so far. note there had been no problems or issues or engine codes on this vehicle till this problem occurred other than a problem one night with the power door locks not working, which corrected itself after restarting the vehicle. *tr
Pulling out of work parking lot on 12/2/14. car disengaged from gear and stalled. pulled vehicle to side of road and attempted restart. hard starting and stalling. shifted through all gears. would not engage reverse. stalled in dr, 1st and 2nd. torque converter and transmission recalls for 2004-2005 free stars apparently does not include this freestar according to lookup website and ford dealer even though the vehicle is having the same issue. well taken care of and only 106,000 miles. i'm filing this complaint in hopes of expanding the recall as it obviously applies to my vehicle. *js
My 2005 freestar failed to maintain forward speed at 65 miles per hour when it bucked and bucked then stalled looked on line for answer? yes pcm is water damaged trying to dry it out now hope it works sounds like ford is waiting for someone to get hurt.relocated the pcm and save alot for your company its just right to do tsb isn't doing it please and thank you *tr
