2005 ford freestar. consumer writes in regards to sudden loss of power while driving. recall notice submitted. *smd when the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, to have the recall performed, she was informed there were no parts available and fords policy was not to replace the part, until it actually failed. once it failed, the dealer would then order the part and it would take three days to receive it. recall# 12v006000.

Received recall for torque converter- had it replaced on aug 20, 2012. on nov. 19th the van wouldn't go pass 20 mph. drove slow approx. 3 miles to destination. had it towed to dealership to check out problem at initial contact was told they knew of no problems relating to torque converter replacement. after checking van out was told that we needed a new transmission, at second contact was told they were aware of torque recall issues but nothing would be done for us. we had not had any problems with transmission prior to nov 19th. when asked, was also told that they did not flush and replace fluids with the torque converter recall service as this extra cost was not part of the recall. we were told by an independent mechanic that if fluids were not changed that it could cause the transmission to fail which it did. was quoted a high cost to replace transmission, ended up using disabled vehicle as a trade 'as is' to purchase a working vehicle. other issues with vehicle prior to last incident were electrical functions not working, sliding doors would reopen upon closing, had to turn off auto doors, backup warning quit working, traction control button didn't work, dvd player would start running on its own. *tr

I had a torque converter replaced 4 days ago on my van due to a recall and 4 days after repair my car shuts down in the middle of driving. now the ford dealer is telling me it has nothing to do with the torque converter which i find impossible since i haven't had any other issues before with my car just your basic brake repairs. *tr

As i was driving, the vehicle (2005 ford freestar) begin to jerk as if the transmission was constantly disengaging and reengaging. also, the rpms would escalate during this problem. after about six jerks, the vehicle lost power to the wheels. i coasted to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. i waited for a few minutes and i started the vehicle up and i was able to drive home. the vehicle still jerks. i looked up the problem with a mechanic and the diagnostic computer readout stated it was the torque converter output shaft speed sensor. i looked the information up online and discovered it was involved with a recall. this recall (#12v006000) was supposedly repaired on my vehicle a month ago. i called ford and they said that the recall was already performed and they can not do anything else. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the contact had received notification of stated that after receiving notification of nhtsa campaign i.d. number: 12v006000 (power train: automatic transmission: torque converter) prior to the failure but was unable to have the repairs performed because the dealer continuously advised that the part needed for the recall repair was on back order. the manufacturer was contacted who confirmed that the parts were not available. the failure mileage was 146,000.

Car stalls when it stops, shuttering while it drives, the car has been to the shop twice know. the second time it was left outside the auto shop and it rained over night. when the mechanics went to start it and look at it they noticed there was water dripping out of our ecm. they did some research and found that there were design flaws in the ecm and that it wasn't sealed right. there should have been a recall but there never has been. i have looked online and there are all sorts of people reporting the exact same thing. *tr

Received a recall 11s25/nhtsa recall 12v006000 last march and ford seems to be dragging their feet. i contacted them three times and they waved me off. my wife is afraid to drive it. thank you ..updated 09-19-12 *bf

I was running some errands and my van was acting wired. it seemed like i only had first gear. i took it to ford dealership, found out about the torque converter recall. torque converter was replaced. at the time they also found water in my transmission. the did a flush. it has only been three months. two weeks ago the powertrain light came on. i took it to ford. they did a diagnostics test on it. said it was p0732 incorrect gear ratio for 2nd gear direct clutch not locking. was waiting to see if it was covered under recall. yesterday we found out it was not 07/31/2012. so i took it to my mechanic today 8/1/2012. first thing he found was water in the transmission. he has no idea how the water is getting in and has looked at almost everything that could allow it to enter. he has found nothing. i have done research online and have found a lot of complaints regarding this issue. ford knows about it and does nothing. in the mean time they expect me to pay a dealer top dollar to replace my transmission. i did tell my mechanic what i found about the pcm and transaxle vent allowing the water in. he is going to look into it and get back to me. i hope someone out there is listening to the consumers and can get this issue resolved. *tr

Add-on info for complaint #10472027. the date stated for the problem with the pcm was merely an arbitrary start date for our problems, which was required to proceed with the complaint. we have had continual problems for at least near 2 years with the vehicle, but no mechanic (including ford's) has been able to accurately confirm the basis of such issues. our assessment of a damaged pcm is based on research of on-line complaints from other freestar owners which seem to almost perfectly match our situation, as well as the fact that our mechanic had to remove water from the computer compartment. currently, we are in search of a replacement computer, but they are almost impossible to find. *tr

This is an amendment to complaint #10465607 filed yesterday. i was informed today by my dealer, herlong ford in edgefield, sc, that it is total transmission failure. they stated that they could not tell if the transmission failure is due to the recalled part unless they tear the transmission down completely. this tearing down would be at my expense along with the towing of my vehicle to their dealership from north augusta, sc where it stranded me. the only options i have is tear down and repair or trade. neither of these options are good for us. we just purchased my husbands truck and we are on a tight budget. i guess we will have to be the ones to take the hit for something that is obvious to anyone who has researched it that ford is at fault and should be held accountable. i have to have my van for work and personal use. i do not have another vehicle to go to work in. ford should be made to replace these transmissions completely at their cost. these vehicles are a death trap waiting to happen. it should not take this long to get the repair parts to the dealers. if there is a class action lawsuit out there count us in!! i guess it will take someone dying before anyone makes ford step up to the plate and be held accountable for their defective vehicles! i was a loyal ford owner but i am seriously considering changing my preference. ford do the right thing and help your loyal customers out that bought your vehicle to transport their families in since you advertised it as a family van!! nhtsa needs to do something and fast or we are going to lose faith in the agency to protect us and our families! this many powertrain and torque problems are not a fluke but a very serious problem that needs to be made right. it's not hard to research this year make and model to find hundreds of complaints regarding the minivans shutting down in the middle of traffic! please help us soon!! *tr

Shortly after the recall for the torque converter the transmission started acting up. it was stalling, not letting me go into reverse, and many other things. the transmission is disengaging and reengaging which is a safety issue. this problem is because of the torque converter they had to recall contaminated the transmission. i do not understand why there is still no recall. this is a huge safety issue! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 12v006000 (power train:automatic transmission:torque converter). after the repair, the dealer only replaced five quarts of the transmission fluid instead of the full thirteen that were necessary. the contact expressed concern that this would lead to another torque converter failure. the contact also stated that due to the way the vehicle was repaired, it would need to be realigned. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 49,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 12v006000 (power train: automatic transmission: torque converter) and took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. the contact stated that he believed that the torque convertor that was replaced under the recall was defective. the contact had not experienced any failures with the recently installed torque convertor. the vehicle was not taken to dealer for inspection or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and offered a reimbursement for the previous repair or a second replacement of the torque converter under recall. the current and failure mileage was 102,586.

Transmission seemed to be acting up trying to maintain highway cruising speeds, 55-65 mph. kept shuttering and vibrating. balise ford in hyannis ma found a problem in the transmission. they had the vehicle for approximately 60 days time. during that time they removed the transmission under the direction of ford esp extended warranty center approximately 8 times, replacing a new and different part each time they removed the transmission and reinstalled it. after the repair "attempt" exceeded the replaced value, ford esp extended warranty program decided to replace the entire transmission with a ford factory rebuilt transmission. after the transmission was replaced the vehicle started doing the same thing all over again. we then got a recall on the vehicle and inquired. come to find out the torque converter was the problem and the rebuilt transmission from ford factory had one of the bad converters and that needed to replaced as soon as parts were available. the new converter came in and was installed in the vehicle approximately august 2012. late november 2012 the vehicle, now with 46,000 one owner pampered miles on it is doing the same thing. the vehicle shutters when floating in and out of gears when trying to maintain highway speeds, 55 - 65 mph. when this occurs you can feel the rumble in the vehicle and the tachometer needle jumps around. this vehicle is my mother's only means of transportation and she is a 72 year old woman who has had 2 total knees replacements. i purchased this vehicle brand new for her thinking it would be a dependable vehicle, and with her low amount of miles driven year, assumed it would last an easy 10 years. not the case. i am afraid to have her use this vehicle and ford needs to step up to the plate and fix it once and for all or replace the vehicle for us. *tr

Was stopped at stop sign gave it gas to turn left loss power engine was running. almost got hit by oncoming traffic was able to coast down hill no power in transmission. checked fluid ok. tried to put in reverse and drive nothing pushed to side of road. very dangerous situation. *js

2005 freestar. consumer writes in regards to torque converter failure while driving on the highway. *tgw the consumer stated it cost $ 2,552.53 to install a re-built transmission/torque converter. the consumer stated he received a recall letter in the mail, stating he may be eligible for a refund for his out of pocket expenses. the consumer contacted the dealer about the refund and was informed the maximum amount available to cover the repair bill was less than $ 1,500. recall # 12v006000

I had gotten a letter from ford motor co. stating they were having problems with the tork converter and transmissions on my model car. i live 160 miles from a ford dealer, but i was going into town to shop so thought i would stop in at kendall ford and talk to them about it. they had no idea what i was talking about and looked it up on the computer, and there it was. they could not tell me much except it could go uot at any time with no notice. they also said that they could not even help me if it did. i was on my own. and it did, in the middle of rush hour traffic. it just stopped. i could have been hit and someone could have been hurt or even killed. a nice man helped me get it across 3 lanes of traffic, pushing by hand where i had to have it towed back to kendall ford, i called brad, the man in charge to let him know it was there. to date, july 7, 2012 i finally got a call from them (had to bum a ride 160 miles home and have had no car since), they said the tork converter was so shot they wondered how i got that far (a little help from god). they also said that it would cost between 3 and $4,000 to repair the transmission. i nearly passed out. first put me in a car that could have killed me, then charge me more than the car is worth to fix it. i know for a fact that if the tork converter is not working properly neither will the transmission. i feel they should be responsible for the converter and the transmission for using cheep parts and putting our lives in danger. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that she received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 12v006000 (power train:automatic transmission:torque converter) and attempted to have the vehicle repaired in june 2012. the dealer informed her that she had to order the recall part and that she should receive notification when the part became available. the contact received the letter and contacted the dealer who then stated that they did not have the part available and that she would have to be added to the waiting list. the vehicle was never repaired. the failure mileage was 135,000.

This information is a collection of incidents that ultimately fit together. i have notice that the floor board of my van was wet. since i have 3 kids i just shrugged it off. this past week i notice the floor mats weren't wet only the carpet beneath it was soaked. my kids don't spill just under the mats. the water must be entering from the outside in. the van was acting weird on and off -no check engine light until it started happen more frequently. june 2012, i got the p1340 code that the camshaft position sensor had gone bad, i replaced it, went out again, i was told it could have been a faulty part, changed it again, went out again, decided this is beyond me. i took it to the dealership and they "fixed" the camshaft position sensor and another part that was causing the camshaft position sensor not to work. ($900) it broke again because the part they put in was defective. they replaced the defective part and the check engine light came back on again. after they had the car for 2 weeks they found another small problem. ($130) i insisted at the time that they didn't make the proper repairs. they assured me that it all still needed to be done. (caught some double talk) i experienced a few more issues with the van losing power. (july, september, october -check engine light did not turn on.) i:n december the car turned off and i was only able to get about 25ft per restart and the light came on. i've noticed other features not working properly or working intermittently. (power locks, power windows, radio, power doors, key remote ...) i have learned that other 2005 freestar owners have experienced similar incidents caused by water leaking into the car through the windshield wiper blades and running down the wire harness causing multiple parts to short out from time to time. please look into this. i have 3 children and no more money for "let's try this repairs". *tr

The pcm went bad on our van. when replaced by ford water was reported inside the pcm noting a water leak somewhere that finds its way to the computer (pcm). we were told to get a new windshield. we did at our expense. about a month later same issues with car. again pcm was bad. water leaked inside it again. ford told me that could cost up to $900.00 to find leak and repair. through my own investigation online i found service bulletin tsb 06-14-10 stating that during repair procedures of a pcm inspect for water damage and if present perform the following service procedure. the bulletin goes on to describe in detail how to fix water leak. this was not done on my vehicle resulting in a brand new but now useless pcm. i went all the way to the top at this local ford dealership and was treated poorly, condescendingly, and was told that the service bulletin did not mean anything. i have a useless van in my driveway. *tr

Last may i had a problem with my ford freestar 2005 when i was leaving a highway, i stopped at a traffic light and then accelerated, only to hear the engine accelerating but the car staying still. in march 2012 i received a letter from ford company, where i was informed of a safety recall notice 11s25/nhtsa recall 12v-006. i visited two agencies to report the problem, in one they told me that they have to investigate further and doing that it will cost me $100.00. in the second, they told me that they do not have the necessary parts to satisfied the safety recall. what can i do?, can you could help me to resolve this problem? thanks. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v006000. the contact was then informed by the dealer that that the vehicle could not be repaired because the parts needed for repairs were not readily available and would not become available until june 2012. the contact was not pleased with the time expectancy of having the recall defect repaired. the contact had not experienced a failure. the current mileage was 80,000.

On apr 2, my husband and i were returning from fl to our home in nc. approx. 26 miles into sc heading n on i 95 our van lost forward power. we were able to coast to the shoulder, get a tow truck and have the van delivered to a ford dealership. we rented a car to get home (350 miles away). we had only been gone for a week, when the mail was picked up, there was a recall notice from ford about the torque converter. this was a very scary situation and a definite safety hazard. also, fyi, it seems that all vans that have this problem also have transmission problems though ford says the converter is not the cause - yeah right...there are currently no parts available, our van will be in sc for over a month, and we are responsible for all other costs, towing, car rental, and returning 350 miles to retrieve it, then driving 350 miles home. this is also ridiculous as this is going to cost us close to 4000.00. please warn freestar owners not to drive this van, as it is not a case of if, but when this part will fail. and also, the recall notice certainly was not sent in a timely manner. *tr

Vehicle lost all power on i 95 in sc due to torque converter. it was towed to ford dealership, we rented a car to drive home to nc, over 350 miles away. finally after 5 weeks, our vehicle is now ready to be picked up. however, it needed a new transmission, due to metal flakes in the transmission. it seems every car that has this problem with a failed torque converter needs a new transmission due to the metal flakes. reading the blogs, transmission specialists are saying that these metal flakes are from the torque converter which is housed in the transmission. ford's recall letters were not sent in a timely manner, we had only been gone for a week on a trip to fl and when we got home & picked up the mail, there was a recall letter. we surely never would have taken this vehicle on a trip had we known this was possible. ford refuses to pay for anything. i would like to see research done as far as the torque converter affecting the transmissions. thank you. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that while driving on the highway, the vehicle emitted a loud noise. a local mechanic diagnosed that the vehicle would need a new transmission. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 106,000. the vin was unavailable.

Driving approximately 65 mph on a two hour trip and experienced a sudden but brief loss of acceleration, speed immediately dropped by 15 mph, which was accompanied by a severe jerk. the occurred two more times during the trip at high speeds and subsequently continued to occur the following days during normal neighborhood driving conditions (20 ? 40 mph). i have taken the car to a ford dealer to be checked out as i thought this could be related to the recently announced torque converter output shaft recall (recall campaign number: 11s25). the dealer has diagnosed the problem to be related to water intrusion into the pcm housing. unfortunately this appears to be common problem with the ford freestar. *js

While driving my transmission is sticking and jerking. after it does that it shuts off in the middle of the road. a couple of months ago i took it to the dealer and they said it wasn't the recalled part and it cost me $800.00 to repair. ever since then it has still been having little jerking and sticking issues. today, july 13, 2012, it shut off again in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in north augusta, south carolina just like the last time. this is the fourth time that i have almost been in a wreck in my minivan because it just shuts off without warning you. i think i have been patient enough waiting on recall parts for my van. right now i wouldsay that my van is a hazard to drive. the not changing of gears can and has happened at a variety of speeds, even at 35. everyone with this van should be put in a rental vehicle at the expense of ford until repair parts are available. i need my vehicle for work and personal. *tr

I started my van and tried to back out of my parking spot and it would not go anywhere. i turned off the engine, sat for about 5 min and then tried again. this time it backed up, i was able to pull up to the street and when i went to pull out, it sputtered and stalled. i had it towed to a transmission place and they said that it wasn't the transmission, it was the pcm. i had it towed to the dealership and told them it was the pcm. they insisted on running a diagnostic because it couldn't be the pcm, they have never seen that before. they found out it was the pcm and now i have to pay for a diagnostic that wasn't necessary. i have to pay for a design flaw that caused the problem to be fixed and pay to have the pcm replaced. the transmission shop that diagnosed the problem did not charge me anything for his work. my extended warranty company is paying half of the repair even though it isn't a covered repair and yet ford will not waive or cover any of the problem that is their design flaw. why are customers not informed of tsb's that could have prevented the problem? i am very lucky this happened in the parking lot instead of on the highway. this problem could have been fixed with a tube of silicone. why was the tsb not completed before the vehicle was sold to me as a used vehicle in may 2011? is there a recall to fix this problem in the works? is there a class action lawsuit i can join? is there anything being done to fix this problem before someone dies? *tr *js

Ford recall safety notice 11s25/nhtsa recall 12v-006. received letter dated march 2012 for the torque converter replacement parts available the second quarter, as of today, july 24, 2012 we have not heard anything from ford about the parts being available. *tr

Driving home from the gas station when suddenly the van stopped accelerating. we were going approximately 25 mph at the time. we were at a very busy intersection so we had to get out of the way quickly but the van would not go into gear. any gear for that matter. we pushed the van out of the way because the intersection is high in traffic especially with 18 wheelers. the transmission fluid level was where it should have been. we couldn't get the van going so we had to get it towed home. we had no prior problems with the van going in or out of gear before this incident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar wagon. while driving approximately 55 mph, the transmission suddenly became inoperative. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who advised that water had leaked onto the wiring harness which resulted in a short circuit to the transmission chip. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 89,847.

My family and i pulled out onto a busy street, at an intersection and a highway and as i got ready to make a right turn, the car would not move forward. there were cars blowing and a kind police officer came up to the car and asked us what was going on. as we explained, he told us that he would push us out of the road. after pushing us out of the road, he left and we had to call our insurance company to get a tow, which took about 3 to 4 hours to get there. not to mention, i had to find a way for my family to get home. the car seemed as if it was in neutral but wasn't. it started but just would not move. to make matters worse, it is our only form of transportation and no way to get around. *tr

I have a 2005 ford freestar minivan that just turned 59,983 miles on it. have had not issues with transmission and it had been driving just fine. drove it all day saturday with no issues - then on sunday morning, when i went to take my daughter to work the car would not move when engaging it in reverse, drive etc. no warning at all... the transmission just went. had it towed to my mechanic and he said it was the transmission and he advised me to look up to see if there were any recalls and sure enough there is. i had to pay to have it towed again to a family members house where it had been sitting as i don't have the $$$ to fix it. i am no happy with ford. i will never purchase another ford after this car. i just put close to $600 for 4 brand new tires in november - i hope these haven't been ruined! a family member recently found this site. i have been using a family members car to get to work, kids to school etc. not happy at all with this situation! *tr

Lost all power to wheels, engine runs fine, no warning noises etc. no transmission noise/ fluid like new. more than likely the torque converter shaft failed... i am a certified faa aircraft mechanic & have performed all routine maintenance on this van since new. almost rear ended by semi truck while coasting to a stop. *tr

2005 ford freestar. consumer writes in regards to losing control of the forward maneuvering *tgw the consumer discovered a recall had been issued and according to the website, he should have received two owner notifications letters. however, he never received any correspondence regarding recall # 12v006000. *jb

Stopped at stop sign, tried to go. vehicle would not go, now have no gears foward or reverse ,lost power without any warning. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and multiple warning lamps illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the pcm module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 176,000.

When driving down the road the van will suddenly lose all forward momentum and drift momentarily until it will just as suddenly resume forward momentum and continue like normal. when this happens, the rpms drop off like the vehicle is stalling or fuel starved (however it has no hesitation like its running out of gas) no warning lights come on and there is no pattern to when or how it happens. however, the problem has been getting progressively worse and now it is noticed that it has a higher tendency to do it when it is raining or there is high humidity. it does it at all speeds from 25mph to 70mph. ford dealership has looked at the van and could not get it to reproduce the problem when they had it. however, they stated this does not sound like a torque converter problem addressed under safety recall notice 11s25/ nhtsa recall 12v-006. this is a very dangerous problem and has almost caused several accidents as i have no warning the problem is getting ready to happen and have no way to notify other motorist of my sudden and quick deceleration. *tr

When is the nhtsa going to get serious with ford on forcing them to issue a recall on the pcm that shuts down the engine and puts the driver and passengers in a death vehicle. this is a known issue all over the internet as well as any master certified ford technician.the pcm is under the cowling where the water settlers and get electrically wicked into the pcm shutting it down at any time under load in traffic freeway speeds.just want to know if people have to die before something happens with a wildly known defect we bought this vehicle brand new because of the safety rating at the time for transportations our special needs son, i sure hope this issue doesn't end up with a death of my wife and children due to ,the lack of concern from the nhtsa. waiting for a timely response and resolve. *tr

I have not yet had an incident but ford needs to pay for a rental car! my 2005 freestar is a death bucket! because of the torque converter problem and recall, my vehicle could lose power in a deadly situation!

Wife was driving home from work when the van just suddenly stalled. she was traveling at 35 mph when she lost all power. she then tried restarting the van and it started but when she tried to put it into gear the engine rpm's raced, then slammed into gear and then stalling again. the van was undriveable. she was able to get to the side of the road just feet before she would have been stranded on a narrow two lane bridge that is heavily traveled the logging and dump trucks. had it towed to the repair shop for repairs. while doing research online about the issue i was surprised to find so many other have had the same issue possibly caused by water in the pcm module. the next morning i contacted the repair shop and advised them of my findings. sure enough they where able to find the service bulletins from ford about the issue 7 pages long. several hours and $240 later the repair shop called and said the van was fixed and the could not believe the amount of water that came our when the sensor was removed. i cannot believe that ford has not submitted a recall on this issue. *kb

Driving straight down highway at 65 mph. transmission simply went out with no warning. would not move in low to drive or reverse. so far diagnosis is torque converter. not very happy...i see ford has had this complaint from 2004 on up. they need recall on all vehicles with this type tranmission / torque converter. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate from a stop. no warning lights illuminated on the instrumental panel during the failure. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer, where they diagnosed that the torque converter malfunctioned. the vehicle could not be repaired because the necessary parts were not available. the failure and current mileages were 90,463.

While i was on the highway with my four children in the van and while i was on the highway my vehicle lost power, i could not accelerate the vehicle. there was no warning whatsoever. there was no where to pull off the road safely to get myself and my children out of the way of traffic. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that the torque converter was replaced twice by the dealer for a recurring failure. the contact was experiencing the failure again and the vehicle would not accelerate of drive in reverse. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 12v006000 (power train: automatic transmission) but was advised by the dealer that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the most recent failure. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 81,000 and the current mileage was unknown.

Was driving around 30mph then the rpm's went up to 5000 let off gas rpm slowley went down..2nd time it happened took it in they said it was a sensor "fixed" it...the 3rd time was going threw an intersection died on me in middle of intersection almost got smashed by oncoming traffic with my kids in the van...had it towed they could not find anything wrong....4th or 5th time was going to work got of highway rpms went up to 5000 and the van wont go no wheres now...no reverse no drive just sits there sounding like [xxx]they way ford made it...now waiting on them to tell me whats wrong with it.... information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2005 ford freestar. consumer states vehicle broke down on the highway related to transmission and torque converter recall issues *tgw the consumer stated while driving, the vehicle suddenly cut off and proceeded to coast. she managed to pull over to the shoulder and had the vehicle towed. the dealer informed the consumer it would cost $ 1,300 to take the transmission apart to determine if the problem was related to the recall. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that when driving at low speeds and attempting a left turn, she heard a loud noise and the vehicle would no longer accelerate. the vehicle was towed to her home and was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. the failure and the current mileages were approximately 141,900.

My wife was driving home from work and while on the highway the car started to slow down and would not accelerate any longer. the van was acting as if it was in neutral.....she slowed to a stop in the breakdown lane and called aaa for a tow truck. the repair shop believes that it is the torque converter at a minimum. *tr
