Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2015 Ford Focus

Vehicle shakes and transmission slips when pulling out from a stop. it does this every time you pull out from a stopped position.

Driving on an interstate and my 2015 ford focus wouldn't shift correctly. then a light came on saying "transmission failure. service now." i was able to cruise to safety but it was a very scary situation with 3 children in the car!

When i am driving my car is fine, however when i come to a complete stop then try to accelerate, my car's transmission seems to stick... then it causes my car to shudder. it happens every time my car hits 1600rpms.

My vehicle accelerated when i was slamming full pressure on the brake and caused me to hit a store, thank the lord i had full coverage and it only did cosmetic damage to the vehicle, i've also had times where it will say the traction control is out or it has no uphill start, my model doesn't have that. i would like a refund on my vehicle but it has issues already.

The vehicle continually surges when accelerating from a stop. vehicle has been taken in repeatedly and i am told that they update software on a module. am told it is a known issue but because it is in litigation they can't replace transmission. i want a safe car. i am afraid to let my grandchildren ride in it. date below for event date is most recent.

While in rush hour traffic the vehicles dps6 dual-clutch "powershift" transmission failed to downshift properly causing the car to rear ended the car in front of it. impact was roughly 15-25 mph.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that on various occasions, the vehicle stopped abruptly while driving. in addition, all the warning indicators illuminated simultaneously. the contact had the vehicle towed to cavalier ford greenbrier (1515 s military hwy, chesapeake, va 23320, (757) 424-1111) where the vehicle was inspected multiple times. the key fobs and battery were replaced; however, the failure continued. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 44,000.

#1- on an incline: after coming to a complete stop, transmission periodically shudders around 15-20 mph when shifting gears automatically. also occurs frequently when slowing down to 10 mph for a speed bump, then accelerating modestly; usually occurs in 15-20 mph range. #2- after transmission heats up (driving for about 30 minutes), transmission shudders after coming almost to a complete stop, then turning onto adjacent street and accelerating moderately. again, most often occurs between 15-20 mph. #3- hillside assist on an incline: sometimes transmission holds vehicle in place, sometimes vehicle rolls back. #4- from a dead stop, engine bogs down a little upon initial acceleration unless gas pedal is strongly depressed. vehicle purchased september 2019 from dealership, multiple events (over two dozen) occurred beginning almost immediately and continuing over a three-month (approximately 1,400 miles driven) period.

Vehicle experiences clutch shuddering on light acceleration. ford has extended the warranty but refuses to repair the vehicle as the service tech advises, after driving it, that it isn't severe enough yet, per ford's arbitrary standards. when driving the vehicle, the shudder occurs when first starting out from a stop. the normal reaction when this occurs is to give it more gas, resulting in more rapid acceleration than planned or necessary. this may result in loss of control of the vehicle, especially on wet or icy roads. it is a defective product, acknowledged by ford, but ford refuses to repair it, gambling that i'll sell it or time on their extended 'warranty' will run out before it gets bad enough to meet their arbitrary repair threshold.

I was sent a letter of recall dec 2018 for my 2015 ford focus, reference 18s32; nhtsa recall 18v-735; i promptly took my car into autonation ford katy tx for repair, on dec 22 2018, warranty claim invoice# 981353 at this time pcm was reprogrammed and it checked ok. on oct 30 2019 my car was at half tank of gas, and it stalled out repeatedly, and engine light remained on. i took it back in. im concerned that: 1) the repair was not effective 2) i need a calibration & inspection on the powertrain control module; ref recall 19s22n 3) my cpv valve was never replaced, as ford did not have the part avail at time of recall dec 2018. my car is showing all symptoms of cpv and or pcm failure..i cannot let my gas tank go till half full or below, or it surely stalls and engine light is on, also the low idle is v rough, classic cpv or pmc failure symptoms [xxx] cell [xxx] work phone [xxx] my dealer claims my cpv is fixed and i do not have right to recall 19s22n this is just wrong, in my opinion, it was never fixed, replaced in the beginning. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Car began shuddering and then would no longer shift gears or accelerate while going up an on ramp to the highway. had to put the car in neutral to roll out of traffics way.

Slipped transmission, it hesitates to go, when stopped at stop light. it has a salvaged titel

Vehicle shutters very badly in first gear. ford sent out a letter in september extending the warranty to include a free clutch repair, but dealerships refuse to fix the problem instead opting to 'update' the software, which does nothing.

My 2015 ford focus 2.0 sedan electric randomly had the check engine light come on and started shifting abnormally and out of control. at first it wouldn't shift properly and then out of nowhere it revved up high and made my vehicle accelerate down the road almost causing me to wreck.

I purchased the car with 6k miles 18 months ago and have driven it for approximately 15k miles since then. during that time i've experienced a recurring, persistent and severe transmission shudder that makes the car lurch and lag when starting from a stop or shifting from 1st to 2nd gear (although it is less severe - still very noticeable, but not scary when shifting from 1st to 2nd). starting from a stop is the major safety-related concern for me because the driver has a sense of losing control. i assumed since the car was used it was out of warranty. then a month ago i received a letter from ford saying the warranty had been extended on the transmission shudder. the letter had my vehicle vin number on it so i assumed it applied to my vehicle. after taking it to my local dealership they said my car was not under warranty because it had previously been wrecked (prior to my purchase of the vehicle). they charged me $250 to diagnose and confirm it has a severe transmission shudder problem, which they said was not covered by ford. they estimated the necessary repair to the clutch and actuator to be $2,100. i called the ford hotline confused about the letter i received only to be told again the warranty doesn't apply to me because the car was previously wrecked. i understand a previous wreck may void the warranty, but in this case it seems an exception is warranted as this a well-known transmission problem with this model and my symptoms are identical to those documented elsewhere. ford also refused to reimburse me the $250 i paid to have the problem diagnosed, which i did because they sent me a letter telling me my warranty had been extended. ford should be required to fix this problem even on cars which otherwise don't qualify for the extended warranty because of some technicality.

The rpm's constantly jump up and down from 2-4, not accelerating sometimes when i hit the gas stalling and almost pausing happens all the time. also, the gear switches are not in a safe location. i don't use them and have accidentally hit them while driving which lead to sudden stops on the expressway putting me at risk to be rear ended. has happened several times.

Vehicle sputters after take off from stops such as traffic lights and stop signs. pulling out of places into traffic. vehicle cuts off sometimes after pulling out from locations. the problem is becoming worse and worse. i'm afraid it's going to cut if and i'm going to be killed or seriously injured. vehicle does this every single day now. whenever i'm driving and come to a complete stop or if i'm pulling into traffic.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that the gear shift lever was placed in reverse however, the vehicle failed to respond. the contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle independently decelerated. the contact stated that the electronic control module and transmission clutch were previously repaired. the contact stated that a message indicating transmission overheated was also visible on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to (chapman ford horsham 1100 easton road, horsham, pa 19044 phone number (215)-674-3600) where the technician replaced the electronic control module several times along with the transmission clutch however, the repair failed to correct the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000. ln*jb*dt*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (engine). prior to receiving the recall notice, the check engine indicator illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where she was informed that the vehicle needed to be serviced by a dealer. the contact also stated that the vehicle began to stall while driving various speeds. the contact no longer drove the vehicle. the contact spoke with matt bowers ford (3724 veterans memorial blvd, metairie, la 70002, 504-887-8410) and scheduled an appointment for diagnostic testing. the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where it remained for two weeks. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.

Recently had my transmission replaced for 7th time, car still shuddering, hesitating with lack of power whether at a standstill or on the move.

Car shakes badly when accelerating from a stop, especially on an incline. car can stall and come to a stop when traveling less than 40 mph. the first issue has been happening since the car was new and the stalling began happenin just in the last week.

A bought a used ford car from toyota, the car unknowingly had a recall on it. the car has been seen 10 times, under warranty, the transmission and clutch has gone out, ford and toyota have refused to by back the car. car has been out of service for 31 days as of now. and i have not received a rental, ford will not open the recall back open. hendricks won't look at the car they tell me to take it back to ford. while driving the car the car would not exelorate pass 40-55 miles per hour. the radio, bluetooth ports stopped working. the auto start and stop stopped working. i have contacted ford company more than 10 times with 6 case numbers. the last time i was driving the car i was in motion on the highway when i could smell a burning oder, then the clutch pedal went out (stuck in the far back position) then the car when into limp mode and would not excel pas 50 miles per hour after pressing the gas the gas petal goes out. the stick to change gears when out and the car was smoking. i then rolled off the nearest exit ramp where the car came to a stop in the middle of the street

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while driving low speeds, the vehicle violently jerked as the rpms increased. the contact stated that there was a delay in acceleration. the vehicle was taken to autonation ford gulf freeway (12227 gulf fwy, houston, tx 77034, (713) 489-2089) where the contact was informed to let the computer catch up after getting it upgraded. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000. *dt the consumer stated the transmission is slipping. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle's pressure plate was not functioning and caused the clutch to lock and become unresponsive, which resulted in a forced gear change. the failure occurred after an extended time period. the vehicle was taken to marshal mize ford (5348 tn-153, hixson, tn 423-875-2023) to be diagnosed, but they were unable to replicate the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 22271967-c6h7w6. the contact stated that he received an unknown recall notice for the vehicle; however, there were no open recalls associated with the vin. the contact was provided with the number to the federal trade commission. the failure mileage was 70,000.

The transmission in my 2015 ford focus has had numerous transmission control module updates ( tcm ) which the dealership kept saying would fix the problem which it did not in most cases made it worse. the dual clutch has been replaced 4 time's the throw out bearing, and the shift motors for the fix to last between 10,000 to 15,000 miles and the vehicle clutch being replaced again. at the last visit to dealership was advised the clutch need replaced again but was advised it was not under warranty now because the clutch used at last replacement was the latest revised edition that had a 10,000 mile warranty through the dealership to contact ford customer care and open a case up to see if ford will warranty the repair. was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealership and give them the case number issued by ford. the dealership called later that day and advised that my car was ready for pickup. after arriving at the dealership the clutch had not been replaced was advised at that time it did not meet the requirements of the shutter file number to warrant replacement but it did a week earlier when the vehicle was at the dealership. at the current time the slip's on acceleration. jerk's and shake's with sudden acceleration from a stopped position. hill assistance works sporadic to keep the car from rolling backwards when pulling out on a hill. the car at times will not want to upshift or downshift when it need to causing you to have to pull off the side of the road and put the vehicle in park then it will shift correctly from a few days to a couple of weeks. then the same problem again. but i'm told by ford and the dealership there is nothing wrong with the car now after i got a case number from ford on the transmission. the car currently has only 75,000 miles and has still not been fixed by ford.

The car jumps, shakes, and jitters when taking off from a start. often times jerks badly and feels as if it will not want to go!

We started having issues with the car bucking upon acceleration, not shifting correctly, when you slow down and then start again it hesitates. we almost got stranded in bumper to bumper traffic because the car was acting like it wanted to stall out. my husband was also driving it slow one day on a really bumpy back road and lost use of the car. he was not able to use drive or reverse. he had to turn the car off and then on just to be able to get home. although our car is out of it's normal warranty, our mechanic told us that ford extended the warranty because of all the issues with this car, but unfortunately when i took it to the dealer they said it was our clutch and right now ford is not covering the clutches even though it is their faulty transmissions that are causing the clutches to go. i called ford customer support and they seemed very disinterested in the problem. when i asked the service man why we weren't told about these issues upon our purchase he said, well then they wouldn't make money. i am very upset that ford is allowed to get away with this. i have checked tons of websites and it's the same problem time after time.

After driving like for 30 minutes if i make complete stop and when i press gas paddle my car starts shaking and hard to get pick up. it shakes for couple of time and then goes normal. and while driving also i can feel the same.

Car will hesitate to accelerate leaving you to press the gas harder than needed at times and could cause an accident. sometimes car wont shift into the correct gear. while driving with cruise control set my car will rev up to 7,000 rpm and stay there for a few seconds. i have multiple videos of this happening and im told its not bad enough for ford to cover it under my warranty because it doesnt meet their requirements for a repair. they have replaced the clutch as well as tcm. a total of 3 transmission repairs and now im passed my warranty so they wont cover the diagnosis. ive had it looked at multiple times and was told its not bad enough or they cant find anything wrong at all. and my videos arent proof enough even though you can see my cruise is set and my speed doesnt change but my rpms are all over the place, nor is it possible for me to make my rpms stay consistant at a rate. very frustrating to buy a brand new car to have these issues continue to happen and get horrible has mileage.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while the contact's daughter was driving 15 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact took the vehicle to four seasons ford (601 duncan hill rd, hendersonville, nc 28792, 828-693-4281) and was informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle no longer qualified for the recall due to a prior repair made to the transmission where a strip was welded onto the bottom of the transmission. the contact was informed that they could rebuild the transmission; however, she would have to pay for the repair out of pocket. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 45,685.

Numerous transmission problems. stalling when pressing on accelerator and lurching forward when not pressing on accelerator often are main issues. transmission clutch and and tcm replaced previously under warranty without successful repair. most recently my vehicle at 83,000 miles was diagnosed as needing a new clutch again and ford refused to cover repair because my vehicle was built after their warranty cutoff date and i was charged almost $2,700 by ford dealership to replace clutch (documentation attached). not even 1 week after receiving vehicle back from ford after repairs vehicle began exhibiting same issues which usually progress as time goes on. i felt unsafe in the vehicle after so many repairs and having to pay for the most recent transmission so purchased a new vehicle instead. i can also provided documentation if needed from all the previous repairs by ford.

2015 ford focus has severe shuddering and hard shifting after stopping. when first moving from a stop sign or stop light the vehicle shudders and shifts hard. ford told me that the only thing i can do is to file a complaint with nhtsa

Car jerks and shutters pulling out or at a red light. in the mountains it wouldn't even pull up a big hill to the cabin. i'd have to get a head start and couldn't just drive normal, it would just jerk! this is disturbing since i was on the side of a giant hill! started rolling backwards. works on your nerves! ford should buy back this car! i've been complaining since the first year i got the car. even to the tennessee lemon law!! this has soured me on a ford vehicle! it's junk!

My husband was driving the car in rush hour traffic, on the highway, and the car suddenly made 3 clunks and then the car suddenly started losing power, almost died out.he could not get the car to accelerate, even though he was stepping on the gas pedal. he almost got hit. this is not the first time that the car has done this. the first time, it stalled out completely and left him stranded on the highway. ford is aware that there is a stall risk, but they can not repair the car. i have contacted ford headquarters regarding this safety issue. i have not heard back from them. the 2015 ford focus has a bad transmission and the vehicle is not safe to drive because of the stall risk. the dealership that has had my 2015 ford focus will not try to repeat the behavior that caused the car to completely lose acceleration. they keep trying to give the vehicle back to me and it is not fixed!! ford motors needs to be held accountable for knowingly selling the 2012-2016 ford focus when they knew that all of these cars had bad transmissions. we do not want the car back. these vehicles should not be allowed to be driven because of the stall risk.

Shudder after acceleration

My 2015 ford focus has had it's clutch completely replaced 2 times so far. over the years the car has frequently jerked forward when accelerating from a braking position, often times misses gears when accelerating and is already in motion, and the entire car noticeably shudders while waiting at stop lights. the dealer told me for years that these were all normal car occurrences and i needed to accelerate harder to break in the car. eventually, one rep relented and explained it was a faulty design with no solution and that i'd need to come back in and have the clutch replaced every 10k miles. unfortunately, it's now that time again as all of the signs have manifested once again. sadly, i haven't even hit 30k miles and a fourth clutch is already needed.

I purchased my car new from ryan ford in sealy tx and immediately started having transmission problems. i took my car back and they adjusted my clutch. that same day, the car made a loud noise and felt like the bottom was coming out as i was driving on the toll. i took my car back again and they kept my car for a week. they said they could not find anything wrong with it. fast forward, i contacted ford and they asked me to call ford relations. i told ford relations that it was jerking and hesitating. so i took my car to autonation ford here in katy, tx. they replaced the battery and the clutch. i took my car back to autonation ford and explained to the transmission gentleman that my dad and my boyfriend had driven my car and said the transmission was slipping. the service man drove in the neighborhood, nottingham, and said there was nothing wrong with it. so i then received a recall notice and i called to schedule an appointment and the lady who schedules appointments told me that my car will always have "shuttering" problems not matter how many adjustments or how many times they change my clutch. she said ford has extended their warranty to i believe 60k miles. my first brand new car was a ford explorer sport which i loved. i never had a problem. i have purchased 2 ford explorers, a f150, a focus (but i did not have a transmission problem), and i leased a flex. my car has under 40k miles and i am very frustrated that the car will always have a problem. i financed $25k and i am ready to drop off my car at the dealership with the keys! i do not want to put anymore money into this car!!!!! i will never buy another ford again. i filed a claim with ford but they said there was nothing they could do because i waited too long. nobody ever told me that what was really going on with the clutch. they made me feel to be a stupid lady. i will send further documentation.

Car has delayed quick acceleration and jerking when going from a stop. will jerk in acceleration while driving as well. occasionally jerking happens when pulling out from a parking lot or turning down a street when on coming traffic is coming this makes me worried because it could cause a potential accident if my car does not go when i want it to go and then goes when it shouldn't go. i have to leave a lot of time space when accelerating in certain conditions. it's been happening for 3 years but has gotten more aggressive and hasn't changed.

Car hesitates when attempting to accelerate from stop, hesitation when coasting and applying throttle, shuddering (sometimes severe) after each gear shift from stop to first, first to second, second to third. clutch feels like it's slipping mid-gear in first, second and third gear. car went into limp mode on freeway and caused a jam while i nursed it over to the right shoulder to get out of the way of traffic.

First, from a full stopped or stationary position then accelerating or in motion the car started to putting or slipping with this auto transmission gear or was having a issue shifting from 1st to 2nd gear while driving or hesitating badly, and the check engine light came on, i got the check engine light checked by auto zone and a personal mechanic and the hand held device showed each time "no data found" hmmm, second, while the check engine light was on and placing the car in park, i then had to place the car in reverse and the car would not move in the reverse position! but after turning the car off in the park position and letting it set for 5-10 mins, the car started and i placed it in the reverse position and it worked hmmm. and these two issues has happened to many times (6) for me to feel safe driving this vehicle while merging into highway traffic and driving in city stop and go traffic now or at this time and i'am taking it to a ford dealer to address this problem today. note: i only have pictures of when the check engine light came on in my cell phone with the different mileage when the check engine light came on.

Dps06, shuddering and bucking at low speeds (15-25mph) and slight vibration at around 55 mph that goes away when it shifts into 6th. various problems seem exadurated in the rain explained as "driving weird"

I was driving 70 miles an hour on the expressway. the car without warning stopped accelerating and reduced to 40 mph in seconds as if someone slammed on the brakes. the car would not accelerate. additionally, this same car has the air conditioning that went out. i am told its the air compressor which is expensive. the rear camera is broken as well for no obvious reason. that went out in the first year. i took it in and was told the cause was unknown. this car is not safe.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that the transmission would sputter when the vehicle was stopped and started. also, the vehicle would stall between switching gears. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new clutch needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired with a used part. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. the failure mileage was 60,002. *tr

Have had 5 different occasions were car would jurk violently on take off . each time the ford dealer would just reset timing that would last 3mo than i have to take it back to dealer to have it fixed again have appt to go back to dealer for the 6th time in 2years . never getting it fixed for good .. they told me ford will not replace my transmission. all they can do it recalibrate it ... i am now taking it back every 6mo to get fixed . were it last for maybe 2 to 3 3mo. on take off it jurks so violent and stauls out . i have all papers work for every time i've had to take it in becouse of the violent take off . dealer told me the ford focus was defective when made n should have never been sold . im afraid to drive it any more . it happened on city streets n any time i have to take off so that is all the time. .. please help

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while the contact's spouse was driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle started to shudder. the vehicle was taken to tim dahle ford (located at 2534 n 200 e, spanish fork, ut 84660, (801) 798-3553) where it was diagnosed that the clutch in the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v169000 (power train). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Took my car for tcm repair - dealership found another sensor issue needing to be replaced 4 days later transmission fault service now and hillside assist unavailable errors came on. when accelorating from a stop the car has a hard time shifting gears. car is back at dealership but the mechanics and service director say they have never heard of such issues. it is all over the internet(over 4971 complaints) about ford focus transmission issues

When putting auto trans. from park to drive, trans. did not engage, put it in rev. with same results, had to put back in park then back to drive for trans. to engage. this has occurred about 4 separate times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while attempting to accelerate after making a complete stop, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle finally accelerated after applying strong pressure to the accelerator pedal. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to bartow ford (9090 e adamo dr, tampa, fl 33619 (813) 246-3673) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that only part of the vehicle would be covered under warranty. the failure mileage was approximately 29,600.

I was at a stop light. when i began to slowly accelerate away from the light my car shook aggressively and stalled in the intersection. luckily other cars were able to stop. i restarted my car and put it in gear it began to shake again. i turned the car off. eventually i started the car and drove it home shaking every time i accelerated. i took it to beau townsend ford. they told me it was a clutch shudder in the transmission and needed fixed. they said it is a common problem with my transmission. they told me they have problems with the transmission slipping into neural. i purchased my car one year prior and the salesman told me then that the transmission was reliable and effective. he it was a great transmission that never needed servicing during the life of my car. he knowingly lied to me.

This vehicle is equipped with the 6 speed transmission that ford as had so much trouble with, however they will not repair the problem that causes the shudder as they say it falls out of the build dates. the car only has 80,000 miles on it and should not be having transmission problems. if there is a problem that they have already recalled or put out a tsb for he dps6 automatic transmission, it should be fixed. when accelerating from a stop there is transmission shudder occasionally. it doesn't do it all the time, but a lot of the time. this is the same thing other people are fighting with just a few weeks prior build date. this seems to happen when you are taking off, sometimes when it shifts to 2nd gear. most every time it does it you can bet you are pulling into heavy traffic and its going to cause an accident. the first time i noticed this i had just driven about 400 miles. since then it has been noticed more.
