We have classified the 220 complaints from 2015 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
On a number of occasions, i have lost power in different conditions. i have notified the dealers and they have tried to repair my problem each time. they said this is an ongoing problem with this type of transmission and have decided to increase the power-train warranty. i think it is now up to 10 years and 150,000 miles. unfortunately, they just want to keep fixing those transmissions and control modules but the situation is very dangerous. the loss of power has happened to me in some different conditions; from going up a hill in a residential area at a low rate of speed, to just driving down the highway. on a few occasions, while traveling on highways, my car was unable to shift into passing gear and even seemed to lose power at speeds of 55-65 mph when trying to pass other vehicles. on two specific occasions, my car was unable to go into passing gear as i tried to pass another car. however, last week and about two months ago i lost power while i went to pass a vehicle on a two lane road and had to drop back because the transmission did not respond and actually lost power at a moment that could have resulted in a head-on collision if the car i was passing would have slowed down at the same time i lost power and the on coming car did not slow down. this has been scary and surprises me because it seems to be an intermittent problem. they said it is happening to many other similar vehicles as well. i would have reported this sooner if i had known this nhtsa site was available. i do not believe the manufacturer should be allowed to just keep putting out unsafe vehicles and continue repairing them when such a dangerous condition risks the lives of anyone who passes another vehicle on a two-lane highway. i hope it doesn't take a school bus with kids getting into an accident as a result of this defect to get corrective action taken to remedy this unsafe condition.
Car sputters, hesitates, makes clinking noises when accelerating. entire front end including steering wheel shakes and vehicle hestitates when given gas. when stopped car randomly idles without using gas pedal, even completely loses power as if out of gas requiring car to be restarted. engine also shifts gears late in rpm sequence. i have already paid for out of pocket the issue related to the gas cyclinder which is the open recall and these problems continue to persist. problem has persisnted every day since date selected whihc is when i purchased vehicle.
I own a 2015 ford focus and a 2016 ford focus both were in an accident. the 2015 ford focus was t-boned. i got injured and there was no deployment of the air bags. the 2016 ford focus was rear - ended and i sustained additional injuries and the air bags did not deploy either. the t-bone i was entering the intersection on a green light. the 2016 i was stopped and a car in front of me making a left turn when someone slammed into me doing 35 miles per hour. both times neither air bags deployed. the 2015 sustained over 10,000 in damage it is the red vehicle had a broken tie rod as well as injuries.
The brake pedal depressed all the way to the floor but deceleration was significantly delayed. the steering shuddered and the car jerked from side to side. front end shuddered repeatedly.
I purchased my first ford focus in 2012 and was forced to trade it after needing 3 clutch replacements in only 20k miles of driving. after reassurance from ford motor company of a new redesigned transmission and clutch in the 2015 models with no known issues after considerable testing, i traded my first focus for my second. to my outrage, not only was i sold a car with a known faulty clutch but i just received my second clutch replacement.. this time in only 13k miles of driving. in a request to ford to buy my car back, i was told my terrible experience with my first focus would not be included in the current request for buyback. next, i was told by a regional manager reviewing my case, that the clutches continued to fail because i did not "drive my car aggressively enough" despite ford acknowledging thousands being affected by their faulty clutches and current class action lawsuit against ford. finally, in solidarity for denying my request for buyback, i was offered 6-free oil changes (valued ~$180), a slap in face for the nearly $50,000 i have paid ford over the last 5 years for two ford focuses. in total, i have had 5 clutch replacements in 5 years in two cars; unacceptable.
I just bought a used 2015 ford focus, right from the beginning there was jumping and sputtering as i start driving. i see this as a safety problem in the future not just for me but others with this problem. as you can see if your reading this i'm not the only one with this problem, over 50 people with it, just called different names. i read all over the internet about it, lawsuits in two states, ...just how many people have to complain before this gets recalled !!!!!!
Transmission shutters when taking off and when shifting gears. a poor excuse for a transmission when the rest of the car is great. im sorry ford but this is not normal! the nhtsa needs to quit stalling and do something about this.
Transmission skips, surges, stalls at low speed or accelerating from a stop. i am seeing lots of complaints online from owners and no remedies from ford!!! a recall must be started!!! very dangerious.
Takata recall. when driving computer or transmission does not change gears on time. sometimes stays in first gear past 20mph. problem when driving on freeway and need to speed up. takata recall. also seatbelts will not release sometimes when i need to get out of car. it will partially unlock but seatbelt will still be locked in place. i must push seatbelt back in place to totally lock it again the press red button to release. very dangerous
We bought the car new in 2015. last year the transmission would skip or jump, jerk at low speed and also when you excellerated. took it to the shop and they fixed, we thought. the car is in the shop now for the same issue. it's only been 6 months, and the car has only 21,000 miles on it. city street and highway driving.

Issues with the transmission slipping, engine hesitating and not accelerating immediately. has been to the dealer twice and both time said nothing is wrong. same issues that is part of the class action lawsuit. occurs when accelerating from a stop, every time.
Shortly after purchasing my ford owned used focus i noticed a shudder in the transmission. i took it back to the dealer and was told the clutch needed repalced under warranty but parts weren't available i waited 6 weeks for parts. the repairs took about a week. after about 3 thousand miles while traveling on an interstate the car lost power. i discovered it would only go in 1st or second gear using manual shifting. i was able to eventally get to my local ford dealer and was told clutch needed replacing. another three week wait on parts. immediatly after getting the car back i noticed the shudder was back. i returned to my local deler where i was told another part in the transmission was broken. it was replaced. i drove the car another 15,000 miles when the shudder came back. again i returned to the dealer where i was told the clutch woulkd need to be replaced at a cost of $2,600 because it was now out of warranty. i complained and was eventually charged $1,100 for the clutch replacement. i have owned nearly 30 ford vehicles in my life but i have never had an experience like this with any other. i am perplexed that ford seems oblivious to the problems this car has caused.

Bought my 2015 focus with 31000 from a dealer and was told that it went through a 182 point inspection and with in 2 days of owning had to have the transmission "reprogrammed" because of a nasty shuttering from a stop and it was fine for about 2 days and is going back into the shop tomorrow because it is having the same issue. was told at the dealership that this is a known problem and there really is no fix. if i would of know this before buying the car this would have never been sold to me... the car continues to jerk from a stop to find its gears and is totally unsafe.
My transmission has been giving me a hard time and it doesn't get any power. it also runs very rough. i have to travel 45 minutes to a motor company but they don't fix it because it's a "takata recall" i don't want to get stranded and broken down on the highway. i need a dependable car because i'm disabled. i want my car fixed or a new one asap. i noticed the problems when i was driving it in motion right as soon as i purchased it on 10/2016 in city limits.
Car kept bumping and moving unevenly when starting from a standing stop or while driving at speeds below 10 or 15 mph. the dealer replaced the clutch, actuators, & seals and up dated the pcm/tcm under warranty. the work order date was 9/28/2016 the car had 14757 miles on it. *tr
When vehicle is in motion, it shutters, and slips gears. i experience power loss while driving, and have also experienced trouble trying to get it to switch gears properly when accelerating. when i initially purchased the vehicle (first time car buyer) and took it for a test drive, i was told these are normal, and would not be cause for concern, but have since become a huge concern.
Chattering, slipping of transmission when accelerating from stop.doesn't always happen.

Purchased mid august 2016. we have put approx 750 miles on it in that short time. 1st incident, my wife stopped and while the car was in drive rolled backwards on an incline that resembles level. 2. from stop attempting to accelerate it jumps, stutters and barley moves. we have already had a near collision in an intersection due to this. additionally, while getting on the on ramp it is so sluggish at times, that we are not even at proper speed to get on a freeway. unsafe, purchased from enterprise who told us nothing about this at the time of purchase. enterprise is allowing people drive away in these piles. if there hasn't been deaths, there will be. enterprise is not advising customers of this because they have many in their fleet they must move out. shame on them. note: the following from the enterprise web site. worry free ownership. our job doesn't end when you pull off the lot. for your continued driving pleasure, we offer a unique combination of benefits to keep you happy down the road. they boast about a 12 month/12,000 mile powertrain warranty (limited) so you don't have to worry. they will tell you all of the issues we be taken care of. this is a lie because ford doesn't have the answer yet.
Twice pulling on to a busy hwy my car has stalled/shuddered, and lost power. both times heat gauge sky rocketing. the last time my car turned off entirely, and had over heated. however it had only been in operation for about 5 min. both times on a busy hwy. first time i took it in, they said it was a module update. two weeks later it happened again and worse. i was able to limp my car into the dealership after letting it sit for 5 minutes. they replaced gaskets, and blew them on their test drive. replaced a hose and gaskets again. my car was returned to me two days ago, and less than 50 miles later, the check engine light came on. the coolant was half full, and in the course of roughly 30 minutes of operation it had gone through half of the coolant. yet there is no trace of a leak on the ground. in addition to all of that, on the first fix the ac had cut out twice which since they have claimed to have fixed. with all of this, it had created quite a fowl smell in my car as a result. my car at this point, my car has been in the shop 21 business days (not including saturdays.. which they work), the issues started mid august and it is now october 7th. they offered to give us the car back and that it was "just an air bubble". despite the check engine light being on and excessive loss of coolant. my car has been in motion each time it has had an issue. the first issue i was just pulling on to the hwy, so was just attempting to accelerate. the second time i had reached the hwy speed of 55 mph. (separate incident, they also had to replace a faulty seatbelt).
Transmission continues to slip. car flutters and jerks at every start.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle shuddered, jerked, and had too much hesitation. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the dealer diagnosed that the transmission and clutch module failed. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 25,000. updated 01/10/2017*ct *tr
Vehicles lurches and shimmies when trying to take of , in town traffic , it won't hardly pull itself , shimmies very hard and make grinding noises, lurches so hard i am afraid it is going to lurch in from of other moving traffic or lurch into someone in front of me
Has a hesitation on takes off has had this issue from day one dealership will not take care of this
At times upon take off, transmission will stall and not go even though you are pressing accelerator. does not do it every time starting off so therefore is dangerous especially in traffic. also transmission quivers and can hear metal grinding or clanging at times. on one occasion, we were pulling out of ingles onto highway and it would not go even with accellarator being pushed , and all of sudden it picks up and goes. this cannot be normal as i have been told by manufacturer. if it is , it's dangerous, especially in traffic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle powered down as if it were in neutral. the vehicle also hesitated while switching gears. the vehicle jumped violently and began to fail after 20,000 miles. the vehicle was taken to liberty ford vermillion (4215 liberty ave, vermilion, oh 44089, (440) 967-6191) where it was diagnosed that the test stated that the vehicle needed a new clutch, and oil change. shortly after, the repair failed. the contact had the vehicle repaired four times, but none of the repairs serviced the vehicle properly. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 73,000. *js *as*jb
When accelerating from a stop and low speed, the car does not respond right away, shakes and then jumps forward. merging into traffic is a concern of am i going to get hit. in stop and go traffic i have to slam on the brakes from hitting the car in front of me. it is in the deals know and they told me this is a common problem. they had to order a clutch and told me to drive the car while the part comes in. it is a safety concern. it only has 25,000 miles and is an automatic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle had difficulty accelerating, shook, and the transmission downshifted into a lower gear while driving 35 mph. larry h. miller ford mesa (460 e auto center dr, mesa, az 85204, (480) 569-7713) stated that they diagnosed the failure on a computer and it checked out with no issues. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic prior to the dealer and they stated that the transmission was still covered under the original warranty. the vehicle was then towed to the dealer and repaired. the failure recurred and worsened. the vehicle was currently back at the dealer. the manufacturer had not been contacted. the failure mileage was 40,000.

My 2015 ford focus' transmission started to "shudder" with a jerking motion when accelerating at low rpm. also i've experienced a loss of power/delayed acceleration when i press the gas pedal, especially when going up a hill, causing the car to not accelerate for about two seconds when i need it. there was a message "transmission overheating", then "press brake pedal" when i was idling in heavy traffic on the freeway. i had the car towed to serramonte ford where i bought it, and bill the service person told me that "ford focus' are supposed to shudder, but that it probably had a bad double-clutch that needed to be replaced, and that there was a 12-week back order from the manufacturer, and that they would reprogram the computer and that should help the shudder problem as a temporary fix. i had an appointment that i waited four days for, then he told me the day of the appointment that it would be 3-7 days before he could look at it. when i called bill three times 3days in a row to see if it was fixed and him ignoring the messages, he called on the 5th day saying my car was ready. i went to pick it up and he said it still might have a little bit of a shudder and that it was normal and that it was safe to drive my car. he only listed that i complained of a shudder on the work order, never put down that any repair parts were ordered or on back order, and made it look like there was only an inspection along with an oil change. i drove my shuddering car home, perturbed at they're inadequacy. i received an e-survey from the dealership and i gave them the poor grade that was warranted. within 30 minutes, service director henry called saying he'd have the clutch in only 8 weeks to appease me, but that i'd have to keep calling for updates. i don't feel safe driving it, fearful of it stalling when i need power critically. faulty car that needs recall among many focuses.
Purchased 1 month ago. at 1000 miles the car began to hesitate, lurch and jerk. one time trying to make a right on red, i pressed the gas to go and it went, then stopped, and then continued as if i hit the brake pedal. my right foot was on the gas pedal the whole time. a car with 1000 miles should not be doing this at all.
Takata recall !! i have a lot of problems because of the transmission on my ford focus 2015 i live on florida i don't know why ford doesn't give us a solution!!! i'm loosing thousands of dollars because idk after the warranty gets expired i can't afford car payment plus fix the transmission on my car every five months:( i don't trust my car i would like to hear about one solution.! they already changed the clutch on my car 2 times and they said they gonna have to do it again eventually
My focus has issues shifting (jerks and revs high rpms when taking off) and rolling back at intersections on an incline. i have had the car into the local ford dealer three times, once they "reprogrammed" the automatic transmission controller and one of the other times they replaced the clutch pack. the third time they told me this was normal operation. before the clutch pack was replaced the vehicle made severe grinding noses like metal on metal. this was while driving at slow speeds in a parking lot.
Two weeks after purchasing the car in october 2015 the transmission started rattling and would hesitate and shudder in traffic when accelerating at low speeds. the ford dealer said it was within specs. the problem is intermittent . in march, 2016 it fell out of gear with my wife on a trip to charlotte. the local ford dealer replaced the trasmission control module and did other work on it. it appeared ok for about two weeks and the shaking, shuddering started again, our local dealer service department said, it drove normal. within the last three weeks it has dropped out of gear three times when stopped on a hill and taking my foot off the brake to step on the gas. this caused it to roll back slightly. ford customer service told me they can't help me because it doesn't qualify under the lemon laws. because this transmission problem has become well known the trade in value at the dealer is only $9000. my wife is afraid to drive it. i think ford is hesitant to recall and replace the transmission because the dry, dual clutch design gives them better fuel efficiency and they would have to compensate owners for worse gas mileage. what good is gas mileage if we don't trust the car and feel it isn't safe. we have five ford vehicles, two trucks, one with 305,000 miles on it, a 97 cobra, a 2007 focus with 275,000 miles on it that drives like a new car and the only one with a serious problem is this new 2015 focus that none of us feel safe driving. apparently ford will have to be forced into correcting the problem by nhtsa or civil suits. i do not want to sue them, i have been a loyal ford customer and i want them to permanently fix the transmission.
When you step on accelerator pedal, vehicle hesitates, transmission feels like it's slipping, especially when you make a turn. i brought this concern up with a ford service manager on my first oil change. this manager advised me they were approximately three months behind on receiving transmission parts for this vehicle. i called this manager a few more times on this matter. on my next oil change, this manager advised me there is no problem with my vehicle. my vehicle is due for its third oil change very shortly. my concern on this problem has gotten worse. this mainly occurs on city streets, red lights, stop signs, etc. i traded in my 2013 focus for this 2015 model and the 2013 did exactly the same thing. this same manager advised me, ford had many problems with the transmissions on this focus model. the name of the service manager and dealership will be given at a later date.
I was driving on a major road at speeds of 50mph when car lost all power to the wheels and transmission slipped. i was leaving a mall parking lot and accelerating when the car jerked dangerously and stopped accelerating causing me to loose speed and control of the vehicle. probable cause: transmission failure or disconnect.
