Problems with 2013 Ford Focus FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2013 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 75 524 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2013 Ford Focus

On way to work, streets, check engine light came on again, took to ford dealership. called me back told me the fuel tank, purge valve, charcoal canister, fuel pump, and nozzle for fuel tank had to be replaced. called warranty and they stated quite a few people had same issue with same make and model/year. thankful had extended warranty, but a whole fuel system, this seems like a defect, not the norm.

I have a check engine light that is on found out its a evap leak gas gauge not working ran out of gas can not put gas on gas tank with a gas can if i try it pours out the bottom when i start vehicle it shudders and wants to die out on me lack of power when i press on the gas pedal and ticking sound in engine also door latch on passenger back door does not unlock unless i push the button unlock 2 or 3 times

Car won't start after refueling.... takes several attempts to crank before barely firing up, random rough idle and rpms will drop and the car will stall for no reason. all problems with idle will come and go, it will run fine for a bit, then the idle problem will come back. the problem cranking the ca rafter putting gas in is every time i get gas.

I was driving home going about 65 mpg in a straight line on the highway and the car lost propulsion, started decelerating. i pulled of to the side of the road as fast as possible and the car wouldn't change gears, and stalled (like what happens when you don't depress the clutch). this is the second time this happened, the first time they reprogrammed the tcm claiming that was the cause. this time they are claiming the fuel pump is the cause, though i am skeptical.

Check engine light came on with no other symptoms, dealer replaced purge valve. one year later check engine light came on again, but occasionally turned off and back on again (every few days) between appointments with dealer. purge valve replaced again and check engine light came on as i was leaving dealer code 0420. returned to dealer and problem was diagnosed finally as partially collapsed fuel tank (difficult to see unless car was on a lift.) dealer recommends replacing fuel tank, fuel pump, evap can and other associated parts. besides the check engine light the only symptom is occasional lack of power when accelerating. the problem is that this symptom is somewhat similar to the "shudder" problem fixed by replacing the clutch assembly. so, having recently done that clutch assembly replacement this felt like a shadow of the former problem and i ignored the issue until i got the check engine lights. i contacted ford directly to see if they would reimburse for the expensive repairs. they have not issued a recall and i am past the bumper to bumper warranty so they would not assist...they were very polite, but unwilling to pay. additional note on the check engine light: the check engine light, when it came on, would usually stay on for a few days and then either late at night or early in the morning i would find that it was off. and it would stay off for a few days at a time as well. my assumption was that it was somehow related to the ambient temperature of my vehicle (which is black) because the light was more likely to be off when it was cool and dark or overcast. i am listing the date as june 2017 but the problem, at least as regards the purge valve, began a year earlier. but the intermittent check engine lights and second purge valve replacement and current fuel tank collapse began in june 2017

After purchasing the vehicle brand new in june 2013, the car would stall/jerk/grind when trying to take off after being stopped at a red light or stop sign, or just accelerating to increase speed. had to take it in to the dealer to have the clutch repaired and even after this was performed, it still jerks, especially when the air conditioner is on. in january 2016, had to take it to the dealer to reprogram the pcm/tcm and perform clutch which was the 15b22 software update issued by ford motor company. after 36,000 miles the horn stopped working. after 65,000 miles the check engine light turned on and after taking it to the dealer, was told it had a code p0456 which is a small evap leak present. since it's not under warranty, i have to pay $119 just to diagnose the problem. now i have a safety recall notice 16s30 which states it may be possible that my side door latch may break, which may make the door difficult to latch. all this on a vehicle that is under 100,000 miles and almost 4 years old.

Engine stops at driving speed, rendering the steering very difficult. the dealer mechanic said the fuel tank collapsed and this is a common problem with this car . somehow this is not deemed by ford a safety issue.

My check engine light came on as i was driving down the road and the car felt like it was stalling a bit and/or losing power. the very next day, i filled up my car w/ 11 or 12 gallons of gas then my engine immediately had trouble starting. i knew my battery needed to be replaced as i have owned the car for 3+ years and have yet to replace the battery. it took 4 tries for my engine to start then i drove to an auto parts store that was conveniently across the street and they performed a battery test. it was confirmed that my battery was low. the store employee also did an engine light diagnostic and the code p-1450 appeared, a purge valve malfunction. i didn't have time to replace my battery at the moment as i had class to attend to. after class, i drove to my local ford dealership, riata ford in manor, tx, and informed them of my check engine light being on. the service adviser plugged in the computer code reader and read the same p-1450 code and decided to "clear it". he asked me if i had recently filled up the car w/ gas and i said yes, just a few hours ago. he told me the code has been 'cleared" and to come back if the check engine light comes back on. i then went to an auto parts store and purchased and installed a brand new battery. the car still didn't seem to drive at its 100% capability and sometimes almost stalling out. a day or two later, the check engine light comes back on again and i return to riata ford. they perform a full diagnostic and inform me that the purge valve is not working properly, causing my fuel tank to collapse w/ fuel pump damage. i was quoted a $2,000 repair cost. i know that ford has issued a recall on the same exact part for their fusion models as well as mercury milans. there is also a florida class act lawsuit in progress for the same exact car problem. please advise what options i may have. thank you in advance for your time.

This car excelarated on my wife jumped a curb and she ended up on a steep embankment in a pile of landscaping rocks.knocked a hole in oilpan and damaged airconditioner and compressor.it also jumps out of gear going down the highway.happened 2 times the vehicle wason the highway and jumped out of gear, you have to come to a compleete stop turn engine off restart and put it back in gear

I had my check engine light on went to ford dealership was told it was cannister purge valve, had it repaired out of warranty. recently ford has now recalled the vehicle for the same part, recall #18s32. ford has refused to refund cost of repair because"code" was not the same as ones on recall, but recall states that does not need to be the case. i want a refund and need help, thank you.

I took my car to the ford dealership due to check engine light being on. they replaced my clutch under the warranty but said there was a problem with the purge valve which is causing the car to stall and have a rough idle. ford is stating this is not covered under warranty. after doing research it appears there is a known issue with this part. there was a recall on this part in 2015 and appears there was or is a class action lawsuit for this problem. yesterday my wife was driving on the highway and the car stalled and shut down. the power steering and brakes and gas pedals would not work. then the car would not start back up. i feel this should be covered under the warranty since this appears to be a known issue as well as a recall was done for the same thing 2 years ago. ford doesnt seem to be willing to help other then charge me $2,000 to fix their problem.

About 1 am this morning i left work and started down the highway with the gas gauge reading 44 miles to empty. since it was rather late i decided to go home and just get gas in the morning but about halfway home it it dropped all the way from 44 down to 17 and then about a mile later ran out of gas. this was an issue but not the one i'm overly concerned about right now. i placed on my hazards and tried to flag down some help to get to the gas station i had to leave the car parked in a curve and though i was off the road it wasn't by much so i left the hazards on. when i came back roughly an hour and a half later the battery was completely dead. i got gas into the car and got the battery jumped and then started the vehicle with one major issue the instrument panel had gone completely dark so there was no way of telling how fast i was going nor could i see how much fuel was in the tank or engine temperature. the other issue was the turn signals also stopped working. today i checked all the fuses and when i pulled out the one for the instrument panel it was absolutely fine but when i put it back in everything came back to life like there wasn't a problem about an hour and a half later in heavy traffic it all went dark again so i was unable to use my turn signal or tell how fast i was going. once again i just pulled out the same fuse and push it back in and everything was fine. this just seems like it could be a real dangerous issue and as i read online this car seems to have a plethora of them also the issue with not getting an accurate reading of how much gas is in your tank is also a problem. the gentleman from the store who helped me put gas in the car and jump it said he has the exact same model for his wife and that he was told when she ran out of gas it was because the plastic tank melted and change shapes allowing inaccurate reading of the amount of fuel left

The fuel gage on my ford focus does not read correctly. i've ran out of gas multiple times when the miles to e read 40,72 and even 88. since i've had the car the gas light never comes on before i run out of gas. i called ford and was told that i would have to pay a $90 fee for them just to access what was wrong with my car. i've seen multiple posts from other people experiencing the same issue. it definitely should be added to the recall list. this problem alone has caused me to constantly use road side assistance due to randomly running out of fuel in areas i was unfamiliar with, which could definitely be a dangerous situation. i'm now afraid to drive at night alone because i'm not sure if i'll make it to my destination without running out of gas.

Check engine light came on, took veh to ford dealer, found canister purge valve failed, installed bv6z 9d2890 b, fuel asy, cost $250.00

While driving i came to a stop sign and as i started to let out the clutch and moving roughly 10 mph my car engine completely shut off and power steering was lost. interior lights were still functional but when i went to start up the car again it would not turn over. this is a manual transmission but nothing was working to get it started again. this to me is unacceptable flaw in the system that put me at risk of causing an accident. being stuck in the middle of an intersection and without power to the engine. i am fortunate enough that i was on side streets and not on a highway as this issue could have caused a serious accident. i took it to a garage to get it fixed and they told me that my model was not under recall. doing some research found fords recall 14s17-s1 for the ford focus st same year (2013) as mine with the exact problem my car had. the garage that i am receiving the repairs at told me they found 5 wires that were severed and was part of the problem. i have yet to get the full diagnostics from the garage but will be adding the document to the report once this has been resolved and all issues are made aware. *tr

At approximately 2:30 am this morning 12/31/16, our ford focus burst into flames while stationary in a parking lot. thank god we and our 11 month old were not in the car at the time. we have had this car into the shop at least twice for transmission problems then our entire multi information screen including radio quit working, they refused to fix because we were out of warranty. we have barely had this car for one year and have had nothing but problems. now we have no car because it is totaled from the fire. the police based on initial investigation said it was an electrical fire. i have seen another 2013 ford focus catch fire in australia and other places. i would like this to be investigated so this does not happen to other people.

While driving approximately 35mph on a city street my vehicle stalled resulting in lose of control. the fuel vapor separator malfunctioned allowing fuel into the fuel vapor canister. also i can not put more than 2 gallons of fuel into the vehicle or it will not start. it also stalls when coming to a stop. vehicle had 48k miles at the time. vehicle has not been fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle vibrated violently and stalled without warning. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and was able to resume driving. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vapor management valve, charcoal canister, fuel pump, and fuel tank failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

My 16 year old son was driving home from work when his car just stopped in the middle of the road. he pulled off to the side of the road and waited in his hot car till we could get there because he was unsure of the safety of the area. a friend of his dads towed it to the local ford dealership. they immediately knew what was wrong with it. they said the purge valve was stuck and caused a vacuum affect on the fuel tank causing it to cave in and the fuel pump to break. they wanted $1400 to replace the fuel pump and fix the tank. after calling ford motor company 2 times. the first time, they completely reported the incorrect information to the service manager saying it was a door handle recall issue. not true at all. the second time the were going to offer financial assistance. so we went from having to pay $1400 to $900 to now i had to pay $777. i explained to them how i should not have to pay for a manufacturer defect and this could have caused harm to my child. it can also cause harm to others that own this same kind of vehicle if it is not corrected. i asked them if it was going to take someone getting killed before they decide to correct the problem. so they put a band aide on my son's car and sent us away. i'm very unhappy with the way this matter has been resolved. i want my money back and i want this problem to be fixed so others do not experience the unsafe conditions that my son has been placed in. please help get this recalled.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving at any speed, the vehicle shut off and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was restarted and driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the purge valve was stuck, which caused too much vacuum to the fuel tank. the fuel tank, fuel pump, and purge valve needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 4,200.

Inaccurate distance to empty & inaccurate fuel gauge indicator. when i put gas in the car it won't start up at first, i have to recrank and reve up the engine. when i make turns or idle for too long, the battery light blinks and the car shudders, the battery is new. also multiple diagnostic trouble codes (dtc) with illumination of check engine light.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving approximately 65 mph, the fuel gauge displayed a quarter of a tank. the contact proceeded to a fuel station and the vehicle stalled. the contact had to push the vehicle to the fuel station for fuel. the vehicle was restarted and driven home. the following day, the dealer diagnosed that the deformed fuel tank needed replacement. the failure recurred once. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

Many problems with this ford focus.1st problem i had was a year after i bought the vehicle the fuel pump was leaking.i notice because my car was parked and it smelled like gasoline inside the vehicle.2nd incident happened a year later. i was driving home from work when car just shut off on the road. i was so scared.i was in notion barely move to the side of the road on rt 50.that was so scary i could have died.i had to tow the car to get serviced at sheehy ford. they gave me the car back again and it happened again on the road on my way to work. at that time i towed it again but to koons falls church.looked at the vehicle and didn't find anything either until i got upset and they told me to go for a test drive with the mechanic and it happened while on the test drive. the mechanic stated to keep the car running so he can plug in the machine that reads the problems on the vehicle. he also stated that once you turn of the car and you turn it back on that it would reset it self and that's why they didn't know that tcm or tmc control needed to be replaced. this was very scary for me.now for the passed 3 weeks i have been dealing with a static /popping noise /sound that comes from the vehicle when i'm driving & when the vehicle is parked, the key is out the ignition.i took it to sheehy since that's where i bought the vehicle. they provide the worst service on the vehicle. bcuz they had my car for 4 days and didn't provide me with a loaner and had the audacity to tell me that the master tech was on vacation and i would have to wait still with no loaner vehicle.the radio is completely off and they want me to pay out of pocket to fix it.it has just given me problem after problem is manufactured problems.i had so many safety issues that scared me.car shutting off on the road and now making loud popping/ static noise where i thought i might be electrocuted.

About one year after we bought this car, i ran out of gas on a city street, about one mile from a gas station and the dash still showed 8 miles until empty. i was stranded on the side of the road and had to call for roadside assistance. after that i was careful to try not to let it get that low again. recently, however, driving down the interstate, i was getting low on gas and about to get off at the next exit in 2 miles when i suddenly ran out of gas. this time, the dash showed 17 miles until empty. i was stranded on the side of the interstate with lots of traffic, construction, and 90 degree whether. i waited there in the heat for about an hour and 20 minutes for roadside assistance. about 2 months later when i took my car in for its 3rd recall (a software issue) i asked if the fuel issue was related to the software, and i was told that the fuel purge was a "common" problem with this vehicle but not considered a recall. i was also told that i would have to get it repaired or it would continue to get worse. i feel like being stranded on the side of the road is a safety issue. i also feel like i should not have to pay for this since it is a problem with the way the fuel system was built. *tr

My vehicle has 67k miles and was purchased certified pre-owned four months ago. on wednesday 8/17/16 i filled my tank, and when i tried to start the ignition right after fueling, the car sputtered but would not turn on. after a few more tries the car turned on and i was able to drive and turn the car on and off with no problem. the following day i was driving on a surface street, and when the car came to a stop at a red light it completely shut off even though my gas gauge still showed fuel in the tank. i had the car towed to a ford dealership, and they informed me that the purge valve, was stuck in the open position causing my fuel pump to deliver too much fuel to the engine, and created a vacuum pressure so strong that it warped my tank and damaged my fuel pump and fuel sensor, making my sensor think there was more gas in the tank than there really was. they informed me that i would need a new purge valve, a new evaporator canister, a new fuel tank and fuel pump, totaling $2100 and which was not covered under warranty because emissions components are only covered for 2 years or 25k miles through ford. the purge valve malfunction is a known problem in 2012 and 2013 ford focuses yet a recall has not been issued by ford, and customers are having to pay for the expensive repairs out of pocket for defective engine component that was not damaged by the drivers. can someone at the nhtsa please research the vapor canister purge solenoid malfunction on 2012-2013 ford focus? having the purge valve stuck in the open position can collapse the fuel tank causing catastrophic engine failure with little to no warning and could potentially lead to accident and injury if the failure occurs on the highway or in traffic. ford technicians are aware of this issue but since no recall has been released, they can only say to the customers "bad luck, you gotta fix it".

Car will die while driving or stopped at light or stop sign. car will die after putting gas in tank. car died will driving at a speeds of 20mph-65mph on multiple occasions. was forced to make dangerous maneuvers to get off highway and on 2 occasions car died in middle of an intersection. was told by mechanic the vehicle gas tank had the pressure of a diesel (1000lbs) when a normal sedan should be 300-400lbs of pressure. the pressure caused the gas tank to become inverted and broke all attachments contained to the fuel pump. this is not the result of driver. the car is defective and the results may lead to serious injuries or possible death.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled after refueling the vehicle, and the transmission slipped. the vehicle was taken to chuck stevens ford (1304 us-31, bay minnette, al 36507) where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was also taken to jim cook ford (located at 620 troy road, elba, alabama) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

I can't start the car or it randomly will not start. i leave heading to work everything is ok, car starts no problem. when i get back into the car and try to drive home or store. car will not start, dashboard says car is in park or neutral. when i turn key to the on position, i move the gear shift to other gears, still dashboard says it's in park. my t-mobile more than likely went out but, they can't replace it until my check engine light comes on for the codes for my tcm. if the problem for the car is known for having bad seals and tcm, why not just replace it. this will be the 3 time i have taking my car back to the dealer, and there only solution is reprogramming the car computer. i have taken it twice this week alone.

I have a 2013 focus and on 3/14/16 on my way home on the freeway, my oil & battery light started flickering on and off at the same time and as it did the car was stalling out. i put my 4-way flashers on, slowed down and moved to the right lane as a safety measure. after another few miles both lights came on and stayed on and the car shut down. i pulled over to the berm, waited a few minutes, tried starting, it started and drove home with no issues. i drove to work the next day with no issues. on the way home things started happening again, the car shut down, but this time after waiting a few minutes the car never started. i had it towed to the dealer and they found that a wiring harness was up against the throttle body and wore through the protective insulating tape, then the wires causing the problem. also, in speaking to the mechanic he said that the bracket the harness was using to keep in place was causing it to be up against the throttle body so he unclipped the bracket. i'm going to call the ford customer service center to discuss. another issue was that the "book" said it would take 3 hours, but only took 2. and yes they tried to charge me for the 3. interesting at $125/ hour, that would be $250/ hour they're making while the mechanic starts on the next car! unbelievable.

While on a highway (august 2015), vehicle transmission began to slip followed by the car shutting off while driving at freeway speeds, vehicle would not turn back on and left me stranded in the middle of the highway. november 2015, while driving along freeway, car transmission began to slip, causing the car to again shut off completely while driving at 65mph. december 2015, driving on a city street, once agin transmission started slipping and vehicle shut off in mid motion while going 30 mph. in february 2016, vehicle started normally, once we pulled out onto a road, car began violently bucking transmission seemed to engage then disengage placing the vehicle in danger of being hit by cars from behind, and jostling passengers substantially. in march 2016, vehicle was driving 70 mph down freeway when transmission slipped, the transmission then seemed to engage normally again, but as vehicle exited freeway on feeder road, transmission disengaged, bucking car, driver had gas pedal floored and the vehicle would only move a few feet. after transmission re engaged, the car lurched forward without drivers foot on gas, putting vehicle at risk for hitting car in front of it. each time vehicle has had an incident, we have taken it to a local ford dealership, transmission computer module was replaced, clutches replaced, transmission re programmed 3 time, pcm replaced. each time vehicle has been given back within a month their is an issue. ford has told us that they really do to have a fix for the problems, and each time we are given an unsafe vehicle back that has imposed danger on our lives and others on multiple occasions. ford even returned vehicle after it had stalled on them, because they could not find anything else wrong. we have been very lucky that each incident has not resulted in a crash.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving at any speed, the vehicle shut off. the contact placed the gear in neutral and restarted the vehicle after three attempts. the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the purge canister valve was defective and caused the fuel tank to collapse. the dealer stated that the defective part was not covered under warranty. the manufacturer stated that the part was not recalled. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 59,916.

This vehicle exhibits the same problem as described in nhtsa campaign # 15v813000, recall# 14s17- s1. i contacted ford who stated that this vehicle is not covered under the recall, even though it was manufacturer during the dates covered by the recall. this vehicle has hesitated and almost stalled while entering high speed traffic on several occasions and with increasing frequency, nearly causing an accident. i would like this vehicle added to the list of vehicles being recalled for repairs before bodily injury or death occurs because of this defect

All lights come on and the transmission jerks and hazing in moveing and the electric with the trunk and lights and the doors and the alarm. been having problems for about a year.

The vehicle's clutch has been replaced twice it stutters/hesitates, makes grinding noises, etc. and still does since second repair, radio made popping, static skrecking sounds that got worse over time to the point of happening all the time and made radio useless, purge valve failed and could have destroyed gas tank and fuel pump if not dealt with which thankfully i did. these are all known issues with this vehicle thousands of similar complaints online.

I was driving in town, had not had any indication previous to this that there was anything wrong with my car. as i was at an intersection, pulling away from a full stop, the car just quit. 100% would not move another inch even with coaxing etc. after trying to start the car a few more times i realized it was not going to start again and got it towed. the fuel pump was replaced. the way the car stopped made the situation dangerous. sudden and without warning. i put this here, in case it becomes a pattern with this vehicle.

While driving down a highway going around 70 mph the car shuts down. i pull over and call ford road side assistants. 2 hours later rsa brings gas and i pay them $50 because i'm out of the warranty that covers rsa. as the gentlemen pours gas in my tank the gas pours right out. i call my insurance company and have my vehicle towed to a ford dealership. the dealership looks at my vehicle the next day and they say the gas tanked was hit by something on the road while driving. i reply i did not hear anything hit my car. they request my insurance info so they can call to file a comp claim. i say no i will call my insurance company myself. my insurance adjuster comes out to the dealership to look at the damage and when the dealership shows him the gas tank they see that the gas tank is deformed and the fuel pump is fried. the adjuster says this is a mechanical problem not a comp claim. the dealership does some further investigating and says that there is a seal that did not close in the gas tank after pumping gas and the gas tank was suction upped with the pressure while driving and fried the gas pump. my concern is the safety of myself and the people driving around me. if gas was spraying on the highway while i was driving and the gas tank and fuel pump malfunctions i think this should be a safety recall. my service advisor did inform me that the ford models fiesta, focus and f-150 have had these issues, but the newer models have been fixed.

While travelling on an interstate in the passing lane, the check engine lite came on and there was an instantaneous and complete loss of transmission. was able to pull over, restart car, and had a couple of gears, but same thing happened 3 miles later. ford warranty simply reset the transmission computer. on 26 may, on the way home from work, the transmission again cut out; this time i had 2 gears and was able to get to a dealership. this time they replaced the dual clutch transition control module (tcm). 2 total and sudden failures of the transmission, and ford only resetting and not replacing the tcm the 1st time is dangerous to me and my family, and irresponsible by ford. this is much more unsafe than the airbags issue. this is the 4th clutch issue: 3 new clutches already put in due to the shuddering/jerking issue. but total loss of power is simply dangerous.

For the 3rd time in a 3 month span, my 2013 ford focus se stalled while driving. vehicle would not restart for approximately 20 minutes. this created an unsafe situation where i was stuck with a disabled vehicle. 1st failure instance occurred when i was coming to a stop at a traffic light 2nd failure instance occurred while driving at highway speeds (65mph) 3rd failure instance occurred while just after entering a highway at approx 45mph. *tr

Takata recall

I have a 2013 focus with 28600 miles. on a daily basis i when i accelerate it rattles and hesitates. the dealership said it was a smart transmission and is just what it does. on oct 3rd 2014 i was at a busy intersection and waiting for the light to turn green. the light turned green and the car acted as though it was in neutral and would not drive. after about 15 seconds with everyone honking at me it started to move forward but sounded like it was going back and forth from neutral to drive and i couldn't go over 30. i barely made it to a parking lot. i pulled over and called the dealership but it was to late and the associate said i had to call back at 7 in the morning. my car shuddered all the way home especially when i had to stop and accelerate at a light or stop sign. i called in the morning and they said to bring the car in. the next day it drove fine. they thought it might be bad gas due to the fact the engine light had come on during the malfunction. that just made me mad. the dealership put it on the computer and it came up a bad transmission module? i am out a car for a week. i do not want the car back . what if it happens after 36000 miles. ford knows about this problem. i bought this car with an expectation of it being safe. it is not. it is a dangerous car. you should be ashamed ford corporation you are putting peoples lives in danger. *tr

Driving at highway speeds and car acts as if starved of fuel and rapidly decreases speed. there was no power, but vehicle was on. there have now been three incidents while on freeway at speed that the vehicle has done this and each time i have had to pull off onto shoulder (almost getting hit by traffic each time). luckily the first 2 times i was able to restart car and get off freeway by staying on shoulder since car could not reach freeway speeds. this last incident (on 1/11/15) left me stranded on freeway between an on ramp and first lane. they did not do anything with first incident because they could not duplicate problem. after second incident ford replaced fuel pump, gasket and tank. after two weeks and for a third time vehicle again "stalled" on freeway at 65-70mph. car is again getting same parts replaced. all these incidents have occurred with in less than a 6 month period. *tr

Filling up with gas the gas pump turns off after about every 1/2 gallon. something to do with the venting of the gas tank.

Transmission issues: clutch repairs x3 (drove off lot with issues. my mistake. i knew something was wrong with it during test drive, was reassured it was new technology.) 1 cleaning, 1 replacing of parts, then transmission control module went out while in motion on city street, going forward 25+ mph, quit completely. had towed. ran out of gas (in motion on a highway, 65 + mph) while monitor noted 150 to empty, found to be valve pressure management system failure, resulting in gas tank replacement

My car shutters and hesitates when pulling off, rpms rev up and gas mi is not as advertised. it also makes noises that i thought were the door locks clicking when car is off, later to be told its the transmission is re-setting? besides that i have had 3 flat tires on the same side of the car, from rivet looking things that i think are falling out of the wheel well (at least 1 did!) this is my 1st new car and i've taken care of it! in fact i got it early 2013, and as of now it only has 15,600 miles on it! the last oil change was due at 16,000miles and i had that done @ november because that date was recommended. everytime i have mentioned this to ford they blow me off and say there is no recall, well bs i want, and deserve what i paid for, a new car, not a big headache! *tr

When accelerating from stopped positions like waiting to turn, the car will hesitate badly when pressing the accelerator and will not take off very fast. this occurs on level as well as unlevel ground. we have had the clutch replaced 3 times within 2 years and continue to have issues. this occurs when in drive when turning all the time. it also occccurs when we are trying to speed up to pass another car or get ahead of one. when the car is on an angle the fuel gauge will read up to 30 miles on the tank but will stop as the fuel sensor does not show the car has gas in it. we have had the fuel gauge changed 2 times in a 2013 ford focus. this occurs when parking the car in our driveway. this occurs every dat that we have had the car.

Vehicle warning "stop safely now" appeared and the ev lost all its motive power and stalled. repeated attempts to restart the vehicle failed.

Luckily no one was injured - as i was driving the highway to go home, the cars motor suddenly shut off, after barely making it to the shoulder (inches from traffic) i looked at the estimated miles to empty, which stated 17 miles to empty - yet i was out of fuel. seems ford focus has a incorrect reading on the fuel economy/and or estimated portion that could be potentially dangerous. (i took a photo of the dash readouts as well). *tr

Every recall event for my 2013 ford focus, i have encountered. after a year and half of continued trips to and being without my car for service. the transmission issues still not resolved along with the electrical issues. the stereo display goes blank, at times shows incorrect date and clock jumps to different hours. the car lunges forward when you get to about 25 to 30 mph or hesitates when you excel. when you put in park it will lunge forward or act like you've popped the clutch even when brake is on. it shudders, has bump & bang noises, lunges, suspension noises. i can feel bumping/thumping under my feet when turning corners. have had issues with the gas tank assembly and fuel system gauge (this part has been fixed) continued issues with the digital panel, intermittent erratic cluster radio, clock and sync issues that the service department cannot duplicate. when i have issues with the digital panel, i take a picture. once i turn vehicle off and back on it sometimes clears it up. i've complained about tires noises and ride, they say tires are fine. i went to the dealership to just trade it in and the dealer suggested i contact ford motor to have them buy it back. i have placed a complaint on the ford website, but have yet to receive a response. i am afraid to drive this vehicle but have no other choice. do i have to ruin my credit by just dropping my vehicle off and walking away for them to take back. ford motor company does not make it easy to talk to someone regarding my vehicle. they should be more accessible now before something tragic happens. *tr

As i pulled out into the flow of traffic from a gas station, i realized my car would not accelerate beyond 15-20 mph. i immediately pulled over to the right hand lane and proceeded to the stop light, which was about a 100 yards down the road. at the red light i placed the car into neutral and discovered the engine would not go beyond 3500-4000 rpm's. i then turned on the warning flashers, and when the light turned green i pulled over to the side of the road and proceeded at 15-20 mph until i could turn into a safe area about 1 mile down. i then had the car towed to the local ford dealer. when the dealer ran my vin# through their system, it showed that a technical service bulletin had been issued regarding this very problem. they then repaired the car and it now seems to be running ok, although i don't feel real good about it. hopefully something like this will not happen again, especially if i am in a situation like driving on the freeway at high speeds. myself and my wife were knowingly put into a potentially unsafe risk by ford motor company, which i feel could have been avoided if ford motor company had been a little more proactive in notifying their customers of the possibility of something like this occurring. *tr

The transmission shudders during accelerating and has continued to do so fir the past 18 months. the issue has progressively gotten worse. *tr
