Problems with 2013 Ford Focus ENGINE

On average, the 2013 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 46 260 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Ford Focus

Engine stalls and shuts off while coasting or coming to a stop with the clutch in. *tr

I was driving on an interstate at highway speeds in a completely flat section of the road and had been approximately 20 minutes in my journey when i noticed my car started slightly shuddering. when slowing down for a merging vehicle, my vehicle went to over 5000 rpm (automatic transmission by the way) and my speed dropped, dangerously dropping my speed in a passing lane to 20 under the speed limit. while making multiple attempts on the gas to accelerate the speed, my rpm's kept going up and my acceleration kept declining with cars swerving until i could get into the righthand lane. i have never had an accident or any difficulty with my vehicle as i purchased it new. further, i have noticed that even though i have an automatic transmission, when stopped at intersections or lights, if i let up off of the gas at all, my car rolls backwards much like a manual transmission would do, which now that i know the transmission does this, i am aware, however on uphill stops i find it difficult to not roll backwards in switching between the brake and acceleration if a car is closely behind me, stopped. i have taken my car to a ford dealership for it to be looked at, and the customer service rep at my local dealership (where i didn't buy the car) states that the transmission issues are common in ford focuses of this model year -- and ford is aware/the dealership is aware -- yet they "can't find anything actually wrong by guidelines" for the car. it's a safety hazard and needs to be dealt with immediately! i expect a new car with no accidents to run smoothly! *tr

Vehicle just stopped running while driving down the road. *tr

On my 2013 ford focus st i have been experiencing a stalling issue while moving. car will stall when clutch is pressed while slowing down. ford has a tsb issued, but will not perform required work due to no code being present. the issue will come and go. upon browsing internet this is a known issue and many people have been told ford will not perform the fix. so there are numerous ford focus st on the road having this exact problem. it is affecting the current year as well. here is a link to a discussion on this topic http://www.focusst.org/forum/focus-st-maintenance/5514-your-car-randomly-stalling-idling-wierd-read.html as you can see it is pretty much more than 50% of cars sold seem like they will eventually have this issue. it's a matter of luck if it will throw a code. people have resorted to fixing it themselves. this is absurd. this issue needs to be made public since ford seems they are trying to save money by saying they need a code present. i brand new car should not be stalling while moving or any time you don't physically shut it off. it's creating a dangerous situation. *tt

Vehicles transmission bucking losing power slipping also stalling out this car is very unsafe i've had it to the dealership many times still no fix

The vehicle has been very sluggish since day one of the lease. the transmission does not seem to engage accordingly. upon acceleration the vehicle hesitates and/or sputters, lurching forward and then hesitating again. i have had the vehicle in for service by an authorized ford dealer a few months ago but the problems still remain. i plan on taking the vehicle in again since it continues to display the same issues it has since the day we began our lease.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000.

While traveling on the freeway the car just died. engine shut off, how ever all the electrical in the car were still working. once pulling off the free way, the car started after several attempts but then died shortly after. the car then would not work. after getting the car towed to quirk ford in quincy they had to keep it as a code they do not know what it means came up, so they do not know how to fix the car. the car is still in the shop to this day and they wont give me a rental. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle jerked violently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 12,552. updated 02/11/2014 *bf the consumer believed there may be a problem with the transmission and the tie rod. updated 02/20/14

I was on my way to work on 12/23/2013 and on the dashboard of my car said engine fault check system now light came on and the car immediately shut down on me on the expressway i tried several times cranking my car but it wouldn't start so i call idot to help me they came and towed me to the nearest exit after an hour and a half my car started up but the engine symbol remain on the dashboard i was able to drive it back home i waited for joe rizzo ford to open and then i took my car to them they ended up keeping my car and i had to rent me a car until the problem was fix joe rizzo ford said they will call me when the problem is fix--> the car they gave me was another ford focus 2013 and what do you know the freaking engine light came on in the rental car i had my personal car for a year now there is no way that i should be having engine problems or anything else wrong with this car ford really needs to get these problems fix before an accident happen to someone. *tr

Two weeks prior to this incident i went and took it for a maintenance oil appointment, on december 3 as i started the vehicle, it would not start, it kept marking check engine, it left me stranded on the middle of my street boylston street, boston, after several attempts it would start but not get too far. i then had it towed to quirk in quincy. *tr

When accelerating from stopped positions like waiting to turn, the car will hesitate badly when pressing the accelerator and will not take off very fast. this occurs on level as well as unlevel ground. we have had the clutch replaced 3 times within 2 years and continue to have issues. this occurs when in drive when turning all the time. it also occccurs when we are trying to speed up to pass another car or get ahead of one. when the car is on an angle the fuel gauge will read up to 30 miles on the tank but will stop as the fuel sensor does not show the car has gas in it. we have had the fuel gauge changed 2 times in a 2013 ford focus. this occurs when parking the car in our driveway. this occurs every dat that we have had the car.

I have only had to car for a day. the car makes an awful rattling noise and hesitates when going in and out of traffic. to make matters worse, today i was in a parking lot and when i was in drive i pushed the gas to go forward and the car went in reverse! please recall this car. it's so unsafe and someone is going to get killed. luckily no one was behind me when this happened. awful transmission. a danger! *tr

Driving home from school with my grandson and the car started to jerk as we crept in the line of traffic. almost sounded as if it was ready to stall! this car has just over 5000 miles on it and i enjoy driving it but this problem has persisted and is a safety issue as jerking makes it difficult to judge how close to get to the car in front of you ( because the "slipping " in and out of gear surges forward ) and could cause an accident. even at speeds up to 35-45 mph the hesitation makes me feel as if it is going to stall. so today i researched the problem and am shocked to find this is a major issue and needs to be addressed asap by ford. also the door locks don't work properly when using as the manual states. i plan to be at my dealership first thing in the morning. *tr

Upon startup, the car idles rough and the rpms drop until the ecu catches it and the rpms increase. the problem becomes more frequent as the car is driven. at times, the rpms will drop so far that the car will stall. the problem tends to get worse as the car heats up. it has stalled multiple times when come to a stop at an intersection or to park. for example, i went out to start the car after about 20 minutes of it sitting after 40 minutes of mixed commuting and the car could not keep an idle. it stalled on me 3 times and felt like it was going to shake itself to pieces. i finally got it started by holding down the throttle and i was able to move the car. it was 60-63 degrees out on april 3rd, 2014 in southeastern ct when this problem occurred. the problem also seems to get worse as the air temperature increases. *tr

Car jerks alot! always jerking at low speeds and usually through gears 1-4. very unreliable in city driving and feels very unsafe. i totally regret purchasing this vehicle. taken it several times to the ford camelback in phx az and they just say its the way the manufacture built the car and how the car is able to save gas. ford needs to recognize this problem and give ford owners a break. *tr

Was driving up my driveway which is fairly steep, the engine slipped out of gear (it's an automatic transmission) and started to roll backwards down the hill, the engine was revving/redlining as if it were in neutral. i quickly applied the brakes, and stepped on the gas. the car was still not in gear and continued to roll back, i applied the brakes again, and then the gas at which point the car shot forward, lucky that i was far enough away from the garage or any objects and remained in gear when i pulled into the garage. this same thing happened to me on flat ground in a parking lot one day. the lurch was less, but the car still shot forward faster than it should have, another instance where i was lucky that there were no pedestrians/cars/objects to run into. this car is dangerous and a liability. *tr

Similar to many posts: consistent shuddering when accelerating from a stop; especially if there is any kind of incline. this is a daily occurrence. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that while she drove at 70 mph, the place transmission in park warning light illuminated then the vehicle stalled. the failure was experienced several times. the contact stated that she was able to coast to the shoulder to restart the engine. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times but the failure could not be replicated. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage was 10,000.

Car:2013 ford focus ev. noticed "stop safely now" light on at stop light just after exiting freeway off winchester rd in temecula, ca. was able to accelerate to get onto wincheter road traveling west going down hill and nervously coasted down hill noticing the steering becoming difficult. thankfully the left turn light was green so i was able to coast thru the intersection and get on jefferson road. i attempted to accelerate, however, the car was unresponsive. i immediately pulled into the first available parking lot off of jefferson road - pollo loco parking lot and turned vehicle off. call husband to come get me. he turned vehicle on without incident and drove it home with out issue. working with dealer for next steps. call fritts ford as i talked to daniel in service and he reported that another focus ev owner just reported teh same issue and was on the way to the dealership on saturday, 21.sept. this problem is perhaps much bigger than we think?! fyi: dealership = fritts ford, riverside, ca car purchased on sunday, 15.sept.2013. owed the car for 6 days.

This applies to a ford focus electric, not a gasoline model. was traveling approximately 30 mph when "stop safely now" indicator appeared. vehicle slowed and came to stop within a few seconds while still in traffic lanes. i placed the car in park and switched the system off, then on again. it started normally and drove normally for approximately 50 miles while i went home. there is no apparent valid reason for the vehicle to stop itself. under other circumstances this could have been extremely dangerous. checking reports on the internet, it appears that this problem is very common, and many people have reported repeated occurances of this problem. weather at the time was moderate (70 to 75 degrees f). this is a new car (two weeks old, approximately 1350 miles) while i don't suggest that the following are contributing factors, i list them because they were unusual for me and this may be helpful to reviewers looking for common circumstances: 1. the vehicle had been given a level 1 (120 volt) charge earlier in the day, bringing the state of charge from approximately 60% to 70%. this is unusual because i usually use level 2 (240 volt) charging. 2, the vehicle had been switched "on" with the air conditioner operating for about an hour but without driving anywhere. the problem occured shortly thereafter, after driving approximately two miles. 3, no other unusual circumstances were noted. car drove normally before and after this incident.

This is for the ford focus electric. i was driving on a busy road going approx 50 mph when all of a sudden i lost power and had no acceleration a message came on the display that said stop safely now in red with a exclamation point inside a triangle at that point i was a hazard to other drivers as the vehicle was slowing down as i was trying to merge to the right hand side. i finally was able to stop and i turned off the vehicle. i let it sit for a minute and tried to restart and it would not, i tried a second time and it finally came up ready to go. i contacted the dealer and they advised me to take to the service dept in the morning. this was a safety hazard that needs to be fixed. *tr

Traveling at approx. 35 m.p.h. on county road, pull over safely light came on, unable to pull over immediately due to traffic, traveled a short distance in attempt to find a shoulder to pull onto, car died in a curve. no power at all. *tr

This is regarding ford focus electric vehicle 2013 model. this is the second time it has happened. while driving it suddenly beeps and displays message "stop safely now" and car just stalls and stops running. quite dangerous while driving. it has been to ford dealership after the first incident and they were not able to diagnose the issue and after a couple of weeks that i got back the vehicle, it happened again. it is again in the service center of ford dealership, but they still do not know why this happens or what is the fix. this needs to be addressed by ford asap as it is a huge safety issue. *tr

For a few months prior i had noticed a shuttering stuttering type feeling when coasting or at at stop, almost like the car was going to stall. on 9/13 i was in stop and go traffic going up a hill into a dodger game when all the sudden a warning popped up on the screen informing me that the transmission had overheated and i needed to pull over, stop the car and wait for 8 minutes. when i attempted to drive the car to pull over the engine would rev but the car didn't move, then it started doing large lurches forward. it was impossible to get out of the traffic and move the car to safety without further endangering myself, my passengers, and the other vehicles around me. the smell was so bad i actually got out of the car at one point thinking it might explode. this went on for about half an hour as i tried to get to safety. i took the car in for repairs the next morning and it was in the shop for a week. i got it back and could tell there was still something wrong because the shaking was now so bad i would get motion sick anytime the car was at a stop. 5 days after picking it up i took it back to the shop. again, they had the car for a week. after picking it up, three days later i was again pulling into dodger stadium and the same thing happened. transmission over heated, lurching as i try to pull over to safety and a terrible smell coming from the car. the car is back in the shop again, but i feel that my safety is threatened and i do not want this car back. in 23 days, the car has had to go into the shop 3 times, for a total of 15 days so far. *tr

Pulling from red lights/stop signs is very dangerous due to the transmission stalling, shuttering, grinding. very easily to get into accidents because stalling in transmission. please recall this vehicle a lot of families are not safe in this vehicle. *tr

I purchased my 2013 focus titanium, auto transmission, in september 2013. after a few days, i noticed hesitation/shuddering, jerking, and grinding when accelerating from a stand-still/"off the line" as well as when the car was downshifting from higher gears. i called my dealer, nazareth ford in nazareth, pa, to report the issue. i was told by the dealer that this was "normal" for the transmission, which is a "manual automatic" transmission. i was skeptical, but i was advised to drive 500 miles and see if the problem corrected itself. i was discouraged to make an appointment, since this was supposed to be "normal" and i had not reached 500 miles yet to see if it would improve. it never did and has only gotten worse. last week after almost a year and 17,500 miles with no improvement, i was fed up. i called the dealer to make an an appointment. the dealer kept the car two days and reported that they reprogrammed the transmission. i picked the car up last saturday and after 15 minutes or less, the issues returned. i contacted the dealer again and the person did not return my phone call. i visited in person and was advised again that i should drive another 500 miles so the reprogram could take effect. the dealer commented that a number of customers have come back for premature transmission replacements, which did not leave me with a great feeling. this issue has proved to be potentially life-threatening on a number of occasions, such as coming to a stop at the end of an intersection, red light, or highway ramp before accelerating back up to speed and climbing any sort of hill. jerking and grinding prevents the car from accelerating smoothly. while i am otherwise happy with the features of the car, this is a deal-breaker. with the number of miles that i drive, i am scared that this improper functioning will cause a collision if left unresolved. *js

While driving the car at any point in time the car starts to sound like its going to die almost like i'm driving a standard but i'm not. i mostly notice it when driving in town. yet i have noticed it when going faster as well. i purchased this vehicle brand new. i was never informed of this being "normal". i have taken the vehicle in. the person working on my vehicle said they drove it and noticed the issue. stated that resetting the computer system would resolve this problem. yet after having this redone. not even an hour later i notice the issue has not be resolved and is still happening. i am afraid that i will get into a wreck, not to mention i have wasted my money on this vehicle. i feel as if i am throwing my money away completely. when talking to my sales man after having this issue not resolved. he tells me that this is an issue that everyone complains about though ford states this is normal. i have had many vehicles in my life and this is by far not normal. if this vehicle did this while i was test driving the car. i would not have purchased this car ever. something needs to be done about this issue. do we need to wait until someone is seriously injured from the defect before something will be done. ford... fix this!! *tr

I have noticed that my car shifts awkwardly and makes a grinding noise when shifting into second and sometimes third gear. sometimes the car will bog down and then get a surge of power and level off. sometimes i will start going and between first and second gear it will bog and cause me to jerk forward. some days it won't do it but most of the time it does. *tr

My daughter was driving our new 2013 ford focus electric home from school at approximately 35mph when the "stop safely now" message appeared on the instrument panel. she started to pull over to the side of the road but before she could get safely to the curb, the car shut down. she was unable to get the car started and we had to have it towed to a ford dealer. after reading about this 'stop safely now" warning online it seems to be a common problem. i understand that cars break down but completely disabling the car in this way could lead to a serious crash. *tt

I have a ford focus ev 2013. twice the car has shut down while driving and the message appears asking you to pull over and stop. this is potentially very dangerous. further, the sync software does not work properly. the gps shows wrong location, including that the car is at the michigan assembly plant, clock shows wrong time, phone does not connect or will not disconnect and the rear camera picture shows while driving forward. *jb

I went and traded in my mustang for something with better gas mileage which ended up being a 2013 ford focus (manual automatic transmission). the first one i got was in the shop 4 times for grinding noises when it tried to shift into gear. the first time they barely had it a day and told me there was nothing wrong with it. the second through the rest of the times i had it out there they just rebooted the computer and said it is fine and will be fine. not even two days later i was on the side of the road and could get the car to move. i barely made 3 payments on that car. i kept telling them this was a lemon and they wouldn't take it back. when i took it back to the dealership the lady i talked to said "well my sons focus hasn't been giving him any trouble. that made me really pissy. i told the lady i didn't care about her sons car you should fix mine. i went to another dealership to see if they had another focus that didn't have the "manual automatic transmission" and they did so i got that one instead of the piece of crap i had. now i have not even made a single payment on this new car and it is doing the same thing again. they keep telling me this is normal. i will never purchase another focus or ford again. i don't care what kind of ford it is. *tt

In august 2013 after owning car short time took to dealer and service manager drove it with us and said many people think there is an issue with shuddering and delayed acceleration but it's just the high performance transmission.. not to worry. the car continually got worse over time and we got a recall notice and took in in oct 2014. they replaced the clutch and seals. may 5 the car got really back on long drive home from la. overheated and then warning light came on. turned car off and back on warning light went off and drove car home shuddering very bad and with extreme delayed acceleration. had cars behind us on hills honking and almost rear ended us... took car in may 15 they said it wasn't safe to drive and they had it for 2 months to fix clutch, seals and adaptive learning sensor, replaced tcm, electronics. 8/8/15 while on freeway steering assist fault notification - service required. pulled off and when i tried to start car again i couldn't move the steering column. called nearby ford dealer and they said you can't drive it - safety issue. it is currently in the shop again. having this happen on a freeway is terrifying - cars honking at you, trying to steer off, etc. this is a danger and ford needs to take care of it instead of continuing to do temp fixes!!!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that while having the vehicle serviced, it was found that there was an oil leak. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the main seal, clutch pack and front seals had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

I lease two ford focuses; one for me and one for my daughter (under my wife's ownership). the car has stalled on me twice and once on my daughter. the first time it happened at speed of 35 miles per hour in june 2013 and the second time at less than 2 miles hour in august 2013. the first time, it asked me to pull over to the side and stalled. i pulled over and parked the car, looked at the wheels thinking that it may have happened due to low air, however, nothing. i shut down the car and then restarted after two minutes, it started just fine. that is until the second time when it actually happened at the corner of 11th and j street in sacramento, ca. i got out of the city garage made a right turn on 11th to make a left on j street. at the light, it just shut down with the warning without ability to pull over. i had to waive the drivers behind me to go around. i could not do much. same thing, after two minutes, the car restarted. at both times, the car was fully charged. similarly, this happened to my daughter, who freaked out and she called me. i told her it may be glitch as it had happened to me the first time around. she pulled over, parked, waited for two minutes, restarted and so far her car is fine. whom should i report this to? the first time, it gave me time to pull over, however, the second time, it just shut down. i thought ford knew about it thus did not report. please help me report this. i love the car as there is no more gas station trips, however, it needs to be addressed. When driving on residential roads, i often feel my 2013 ford focus stall or jerk. often times there are glitches in the electrical wiring of locks and also in the radio. the door will stay locked after hitting the unlock button on the inside multiple times. the radio will not turn on, unless i turn off and re-turn on the car. as for the stalling, it often stalls when going anywhere from 30-65 mph. *tr

I was coming back from school to my house. the engine light came on asking me to pull over safely. i did that, the car stalled. i freaked out, and called my dad. he said not to worry as it had happened to him in his ford focus electric too. he asked me to wait for two minutes and then restart the engine. i did that, the car was fine then. please talk to my dad if you have any questions. his contact information is listed below. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Stop safely now indicator came on while driving vehicle. at a stop light approximately 5 minutes later, the vehicle lost all power in front of intersection. this is an all electric vehicle. i placed transmission in park and attempted to power cycle car with no success for approximately 2 minutes. once i opened the driver side front door, the car was then able to power back on. the "stop safely now" warning did not reappear. *tr

Traveling on a road. stopped at a stop sign. when the pedal was pressed the car showed an error of "stop safely now" and refused to move. the car had to be pushed around the corner of the intersection while vehicles tried to pass. *tr

The first incident occurred two days or so after purchasing the car. heard grinding noise in the front of the car as if metal was dragging on asphalt. took it to dealership and they stated it was normal. about two weeks later check engine light came on. took it to dealership and they ran a test and said nothing was wrong and reset the computer. a week later, message comes on the screen in the car to immediately pull over due to high temperatures. lifted the hood and steam was emanating from the coolant reservoir and the lid had come off due to the pressure. i had to call for a tow to the dealership. they ran another test and found that the radiator fan had failed and they had to replace it. more repeated trips to the dealership to address the grinding transmission but to no avail. in april 2014, i started to experience violent shuddering and jerking, along with the grinding, and again took it to the dealership. they told my husband nothing was wrong because they did not experience it when he came in. took it back the next day, they ran a test and found that i was is fact right that something was wrong. the clutch was being leaked on by seals above it. they told me they had ordered the part and would call me when it came in. i was not told to leave it there. they said they would call me when the part came in. the car lurches forward when shifting and shudders horribly. i would not recommend this car to anyone and i do not feel safe driving it and nothing seems to be done about it. *tr

This car needs to be recalled. took to dealer with problem about 1,000 miles. they acknowledged it has a problem and said they needed to keep it overnight. then i find out all they did is reset the computer. that did not work and now at 7,000 miles the problem is getting worse. engine hesitates and slips when starting accelerate and is worse around 30 mph when the engine shutters, rattles and jumps like i am riding on a horse. how can ford sell a car that has a major flaw like this? i see hundreds of complaints similar problems. when is the government going to do something? i just wasted my money. i expect to get a good car with no problems but i get a new piece of trash. how can i get the car fixed or my money back? *tr

While aggressively shifting from 1-2 and even sometimes 2-3 there is a hard thumping bang that occurs when shifting over 3k...multiple ford owners are aware of the issue and state that the problem depends on the build date of the vehicle...supposedly stating its the engine motor mount. upon reading into the problem ford isn't sure if the are going to make it a recall or not. *tr

When i drive it sounds like something is grinding and/or a rattling in the front of the car. it does not always make this noise however when it does it sounds like my transmission is gonna fall out in the middle of the road while i am driving. i can also feel a vibration in my foot peddle. on june 07 2017 they reprogrammed my transmission hoping that would resolve the problem. on another visit december 27th 2013 they lubed some part of the front of my vehicle. then on march 19th 2014 they did another reprogram advising me this time its more specific for my vehicle. they also gave me a print out on why my car made this noise and advised me it was normal. they have heard the noise all 3 of these times, there were a few other visits where they were unable to hear the noise so they were not sure on how to approach the problem. with the last reprogramming they did so far has helped the noise it is not as often occurring however now my car is jerking, almost like the transmission is slipping. they did advise me i would need to drive 500 miles to ensure the reprogramming has been fixed and i am not at my 500 miles yet. *tr

Vehicle stalls when clutch is depressed when coming to a stop. sometimes idle is erratic if the vehicle stays running. it hunts to idle properly. *tr

The car makes horrible noises when in low a low speed. it hesitates. it makes horrible crunching noises. it has been to the dealer many times. they always say that they hear it, but that it is not a problem. the vehicle has stopped in the middle of the road. now, in september 2015, i have received a software update program 15b22 which is extending my warranty. ford already agreed to extend my warranty in 2013 because of my complaints. however, that documentation does not show up in the ford oasis system, but mr. ford's office assures me that if i show them the letter, it will honored. i have all of the back up material from 2013 including phone logs. i believe this is a safety hazard that can only be corrected with replacing the entire transmission at no cost to the customer. i am very afraid the vehicle will stall in the middle of rushing traffic. it has stalled in the middle of the road already. i made mr. ford's office aware of this, also. i would never pass this car onto my child or a relative, and i will feel guilty when i am able to finally trade it in an buy a new vehicle. the car should not be on the road.

When shifting the car from first to second, a very loud banging sound was heard. checked online for similar problems and found that ford had issued a tsb for this problem on june 10, 2013. went back to the dealer and informed them of my problem and the tsb. was told that they would have to experience the problem before they would order parts. had to make an appointment for them to drive the car and leave it an entire day. went back july 18, 2013. dealer had a tech drive the car, and yes, there was a problem. parts ordered. after waiting weeks, was told that there is a nationwide backorder on parts. after hitting 3000 miles, started to have severe steering issues. when shifting into second or third under acceleration, the would almost make a right turn. and then when accelerating in second and third, the steering wheel would vibrate so bad i had to hang on for dear life. back to the dealer. they made a call to ford engineering who said that new mounts would fix the steering issues. in august, i started calling heather at ford customer service. explained about the backorder and my steering issues. told her i was afraid to drive the car. she said she would try to expedite the parts. after weeks of no results, talked to her about me buying aftermarket mounts that are available. she said ford would not authorize anything but ford parts. i said that would be acceptable if ford would come up with the parts. i am now being told that parts might be here in october. word on the web is that delivery will most likely be november or next year. finally broke down and bought my own mounts at a cost of $369. my safety is worth that much. i will try to get my money back from ford, waited 9000 miles for them to fix it. *js

When turning a corner and attempting to accelerate the care shuddered and made loud noises. it progressed to shuddering every time i accelerated...climbing small grade, changing speed zones etc. this is an automatic car. i had it into shop where they cleaned clutches and the problem persisted and now there was shuddering when i attempted to back down a small drive way incline. the car continues to shudder and make noise. the service department tells me the car needs to learn my driving style....bs. this is embarrassing and frustrating not to mention that i feel very unsafe driving a car with transmission problems. i was told to drive it more, but i refuse to drive a brand new car with these issues. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the entire vehicle started shaking and jerking without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and to a mechanic, who both stated that the computer needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 210. the current mileage was 3,600.

I purchased the 2013 ford focus brand new on 2-09-13. car barely has 1800 miles on it. while slowing down in a school zone to 15mph, i noticed the car seemed to lose power, and feel shaky. once past the school zone i accelerated to 20mph and car shifted roughly into gear with a bumping noise. i pulled over and stopped and turned off the engine. after restarting car initially seemed fine. exactly one week later same thing happened again when in supermarket parking lot. this time however the orange engine service light that looks like an outline of the engine appeared on the dashboard panel. i stopped the car again. when restarting the light went out but reappeared on the 2 mile drive home from the store. car also seemed to lose power and not accelerate when i needed it to. i called my dealership 1st thing and was told it's most likely a sensor issue and very minor but i made an appointment and took the car in. the dealership ran computer diagnostics and service mgr. came in and told me 2 error codes showed up of transmission malfunction/ and possible failure! a brand new car!!! they started talking about replacing the transmission and the on board computer, etc.. but dealership can't repair my car at this time because a specialist they don't have on staff needs to be called in. so i have an un safe, unreliable new car sitting in my driveway. 15 calls to dealership and to ford's customer relations number and i can't even get an appointment to get the car looked at further to determine how defective it is!!! what a lemon! no matter how this is resolved, will never do business with ford again. they seem unconcerned with the safety issues this defect is causing and they have the worst customer service i have ever dealt with!! *tr

Vehicle has been leaking oil since it was purchased. (2) ford dealerships have attempted repairs multiple times to stop engine oil leak(s), all of which have been unsuccessful. was under vehicle on 5/12/13 and noticed there is still engine oil leaking from area around engine/transmission. defect allowing engine to run without optimal amount of oil, leaking oil creates fuel for potential fire, used engine oil is known carcinogen, which is being deposited within engine compartment and allowed access to passenger cabin. *tr
