We have classified the 218 complaints from 2012 Ford Fiesta about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I have an automatic 2012 ford fiesta, a model that is infamous for its transmission issues. i had the clutch and seal kits replaced at approx 72k miles on 10/5/2017 under technical service bulletin 14m01; immediately after this repair, the vehicle had to go back into the shop for a high idle and continued shuddering. since then, i have continued to have problems with the vehicle studdering on takeoff, hesitating and then jumping when accelerating, and ultimately with the transmission slipping from drive to neutral. in mid-july 2019, while leaving my suburban neighborhood and making a left turn onto the main road at approximately 20mph, my vehicle slipped from drive into neutral and i lost all power and was unable to brake effectively or speed the vehicle up effectively. thankfully this happened early in the morning with no cross traffic and i was able to pull into a parking lot safely. the same incident happened again 7 months later in late-january 2020. i took the vehicle back to the ford for an inspection on 2/7/2020 (which they charged me for). they stated that there was transmission fluid between the bell housing and the clutch assembly, seals, and shift forks needed to be replaced again, approximately 7k miles after the first replacement, but that i was out of warranty and the replacement would be about $2,500 out of pocket. they reprogrammed the transmission control module under 14m02 but stated that it probably would not fix the problem. ford knows that these transmissions are an issue. there is no reason why a transmission should fail 16k miles after being replaced. i would like ford to either buy my vehicle back or perform another clutch replacement at their expense.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fiesta. while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle stalled and the gear shifter failed to shift from neutral. all the instrument cluster warning lights were illuminated. the vehicle was towed to bill hood ford (1500 n morrison blvd, hammond, la 70401 (985) 205-8157) but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 108,130.
Transmission kicks in and out of gear when starting out. seems to be dangerous at an intersection.
I just bought a used 2012 ford fiesta and i realized after buying it that the odometer isn't working at all. the transmission also isn't working properly. when i start the car, the 1rt gear won't go into shift so the car stutters and shakes. i took the car to a ford dealer but they insisted that the car doesn't have a recall for the transmission. i know that there is a consumer class action suit against ford due to faulty transmissions built into these make and model. i have contacted a lawyer and i am waiting to hear from him. i would like to file a formal complaint. thank you. p.s: i do not know what type of photos or documents you would like me to upload do please contact me with more information with this regard.
My vehicle while stopped at an intersection lurched forward almost hitting another vehicle. i was stationary with my foot fully compressing the brake. then out of nowhere my engine area started making a strange noise and i lurched forward several feet almost colliding with a vehicle in the intersection. this was on a country road in an intersection. i believe this may be due to the recent transmission issues ford has admitted to.
I have experienced repeated and frequent problems with my vehicle: shuts off for no reason daily, often at a traffic light or just after i begin accelerating; the transmission is faulty (has already been replaced once at 97,000 miles at great expense) and simply stops working at unexpected times (e.g. while driving down the road it slips into neutral and won't move, shudders, etc. i have to turn my fiesta off and restart to get it to move).. this is a very dangerous vehicle and i cannot afford to replace it. i read that ford has been aware of these issues from date of manufacture, and has not publicly acknowledged. it is my understanding that engineers of the fiesta are now going public. when is something going to be done? why do i have to wait until i have been seriously injured, or worse, to get redress for what ford motor company was aware of, and covered up, even while these vehicles were being manufactured? this is a continuing issue, not a single or even a 20 time occurance.
Car will stop at times you have to let it sit for an hour, vibrates, sound like plastic moving around when car is on, hard to go up hill no acceleration, jerks. i was on a city street it stopped in traffic so i'm only able to go to the store i have to leave it at a friends home scared to drive it home as we live into different counties were you have to get on the highway not safe. i was actually looking up transmission cost when this appeared i was told by a mechanic that is the issue and it needs to be replaced.
Just bought the car. next day the transmission started acting up while in stop and go traffic. jerking, bucking like a wild bronco, smelled hot. took it in to ford and discovered i need to replace clutch. it will be the 3rd clutch on a car with 79,000 miles.
I was driving and attempting a turn. the transmission shuddered and stopped moving. like i was in neutral. i nearly got hit. i stopped the car restarted it and drove away.
I recently purchased this one from local dealer he said all is good. but transmission is not good at all
The transmissions does not shift correctly, the car shutters and does not accelerate correctly.
Transmission balks on acceleration. when entering expressway on ramps the transmission slips and causes trouble merging with the up to speed traffic. from a stop it often operates flawlessly but sometimes will not accelerate without surges forward and backward. this unpredictability is dangerous. i will not let my wife or daughter drive this car. it is downright dangerous.
Transmission slipping had to pay $4000 dollars to replace picked up 7/16/2019 ford dealer told me was not covered under extended warranty. car was making noise as rpms was increasing.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fiesta. while driving and making a turn, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to beechmont ford (600 ohio pike, cincinnati, oh 45245, (513) 752-6611) where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module and dual clutch needed to be replaced. the transmission control was repaired; however, the dual clutch was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas22261423. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 140,000.
My 2012 ford fiesta's transmission has been shuttering, slipping in and out of gear, and stalling on hills or in intersections on busy highways or city streets. i've taken it to the dealership numerous times and i get the same response, (there is nothing wrong sir) is what they tell me. i love the car, love the fuel economy, but every time i drive it it makes me worry about breaking down in the middle of busy traffic and leaving me stranded, with no other way to get to work. i feel like if ford would do a recall to replace these faulty transmissions, then there would be a world of difference on the way that car makes me feel while driving.
takata recall tansmission light keeps lighting on , a/c does not work car shift by its self dtcs,po7a5 transfiction element b stuck dp56 pids found friction element b binding caused by shift fork assy
When at a complete stop the car shakes. when pressing on the gas from a complete stop the car shudders and stalls. when driving at a slow place (under 30 mph) the car will vibrate briefly.
Tcm transmission module recalled my ford store in fort walton beach said they would not replace tcm under recall i would have to pay out of pocket
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fiesta. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shuddered and hesitated. on one occasion, the engine rpms suddenly revved very high before the engine stalled and the shifter remained stuck in the park position. the vehicle was towed to beaman ford (1717 tennessee 46, dickson, tn) where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 133,000.
I have a 2012 ford fiesta which has had nothing but problems over the course of the time i've had the car. on the thursday before the memorial day weekend i put the car into reverse and the car wouldn't stop. we were going very slow and thank goodness didn't hit anything. we hit a curb behind us that stopped the car. i shifted into drive and it moved forward. we took it into the dealership that next morning and they replaced the brake master cylinder and the clutch. i've done multiple warranty claims & i've had ongoing trans/clutch issues that finally resulted with as replacement last month. now the car is no longer jerking and slipping but it's slower with decreased gas mileage. i've had a sync issue/ radio electrical issue and took it in multiple times, it's still not fixed. recently the radio/sync completely fails but it's intermittent. now i'm being told that because the sync/radio issue is intermittent, i have to wait until it's not working completely to take it in. in the last 6 weeks the car has been in twice for brake issues, (i took it back twice in the same day + trans replacement) then again two weeks later. i'm on the third time to the dealership over the sync system in the last year, that is still not fixed.
My 2012 ford fiesta will randomly lose power and not engage to shift. this happens so randomly, on side streets, major roads, from stop, while mocing, anytime. this problem is getting progressively worst. i try to avoid highways if possible due to the fact that this occur once on a highway and it almost cause a major accident. i definitely don't feel safe driving this vehicle any longer.
Vehicle has surged at stop signs on city streets and at times on the highway will seem to lose power. these incidents have never resulted in an accident, but it seems as though the transmission is faulty.
The car is a 2012 ford fiesta that i purchased from a dealership in april of this year -2019. the car accelerates unexpectantly when you start it or after a stop. while driving, the car will suddenly jerk (often violently which causes my entire body to move forward and back). the car shudders and kicks when driven. the car shakes and makes loud noise while idling. the car rolls backward while at a stop and after release of the brakes. these problems makes it very difficult to control the car. i do not feel safe in the car and fear that it poses a danger to myself, other drivers, and the public in general. i have driven many years and had a number of cars. this is first time i feel compelled to voice a concern about a vehicle. i am disappointed that these cars can be sold without any warning of the problems to buyers and that such cars are even on the roads.
This car has been a disaster from day one. the transmission issues that ford is aware of have almost caused numerous accidents. the car bucks and carries on all the time. while stopped for a red light you push on gas and it doesn't move them all the sudden it darts into traffic. about 6 months ago low beams stopped working and nobody knows why. then 2 weeks ago all the sudden car overheats and within 2 minutes dies causing $2000 worth of damage. im told these are common and im lucky it didn't catch on fire. what's next. fyi, the lights still don't work which causes a safety hazard. why is this car not recalled??
The transmission in this car does not engage properly at times causing it to not accelerate as expected. this sometimes feels like there isn't enough power available to accelerate and other times it shudders and shakes until it shifts from first gear to second. we submitted the car for the transmission computer reprogramming tsb when it became available. it seemed to improve its operation. our son drives this car to commute to college and it worries us terribly. i know two other people that own cars with the same transmission and ours is not as bad, but still unpredictable and dangerous when driving in dense traffic. the vehicle has approximately 105,000 carefully maintained miles. at 100,500 miles the transmission got worse. ford was called and they refused to consider repairing it under the extended warranty offered on this transmission (7 years/100,000 miles) because it was just outside of the permitted mileage. from what we have read, it doesn't sound like the 'repair' is worth doing since the problems quickly return. we can't sell the car in this condition without taking a major loss. it's a bad situation.
Takata recall, problems with transmission do no shift as it supposed, bad noise between shifting
While driving the engine will accelerate wildly, appearing to be in neutral. car will then pop into gear. took it in and they said it was a transmission module. they fixed it and less than a month later same thing happens. took it back, it was same transmission module. service tech at ford said to get rid of it as it is going to continue to happen
To whom it may concern: i was a 24 year old single female when i went to the fox ford dealership in grand rapids, mi in early 2012. when i saw the ford fiesta in the showroom i thought it was 'cute.' i test drove it and thought it sounded a little loud but didn't really know anything about cars so i ignored it and told the salesman i wanted to start the purchase process. i ended up leasing the car in march 2012. by september 2012, i moved to arizona and took a job with child protective services. i started noticing my car jerked a lot around 20,000 miles (early 2013). whenever i went in for my oil change at earnhardt ford in chandler, az i mentioned the shuddering and jerking of the car. i was told this was just a 'characteristic' of the car and it couldn't be fixed. i mentioned this multiple times but when the technician would look at the car, it was working properly. the car started to get worse and being a children's case manager meant that i had to drive children around frequently for my job. i started to fear that i would get in an accident when turning since that is when my car would shudder and stop when trying to make a turn from a stopped position. i knew that i needed to start documenting the issues in case anything were to happen.
I bought a 2012 ford fiesta .i made a clutch that went out took it to the shop .the half fix it now i'm out of warrantery i will never by a ford again .....
Having transmission issues and heard that these models have been known to have issues. has issues going into reverse
Rear driver side door will not latch shut,,, flew open while driving......
We bought our 2012 ford fiesta about a 2 years ago. since then we have taken it to 2 mechanics and the problems persist. the transmission shudders and lurches forward at random. the car has major issues accelerating and has almost gotten us in many accidents. the car seems like it gets stuck in a lower gear and will not move out of it even as your foot is pressed all the way down.
Transmission control module (tcm) failed and needed to be replaced. vehicle was stationary when problem was detected.
We have a 2012 ford fiesta. when we are driving the car ti shakes when it goes to change gears, it is an automatic. we've taken it to the dealership many times. the dealership used to tell us it was the mass air flow sensor. they have cleaned it and replaced it. the car continued to have the issue. i took the car into the dealership and told them to check the clutch assembly. they did and replaced the clutch assembly saying that was the problem. the car drove decent for about a month then we went back to the problem of losing power in the middle of an intersection and then accelerating too fast after the loss of power. now the car will rev up when in park and continues to have the shuttering problem. the dealership seems to not know what is going on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fiesta. the contact stated that the transmission failed to function properly. while driving various speeds, there was a delay in changing gears and the transmission was slow to engage when driving up a hill. ramey ford princeton (498 courthouse rd, princeton, wv 24739, (304) 425-2128) indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced one year ago per an unspecified manufacturer power train/transmission campaign and the clutch assembly was replaced at that time. the dealer diagnosed that the part needed to be replaced again. the vehicle was not included in any power train recalls. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 27,500. **tr consumer stated i have had the car 5 years and the clutches in transmission has went out 2 times and then now is going out again. i think its wrong that they can't fix it right. updated 11/1/18*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fiesta. while driving at an unknown speed, the transmission would hesitate and an abnormal rumbling sound was heard when the gears shifted. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to sun rise ford (9435 us-1, fort pierce, fl 34982) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 125,800.
Lost power while driving, problem occurred 4 times in the span of driving 10 miles, struggled to get home. occurred while on freeway, at red light, and high speed or slow speed did not matter. car would ding the alert sound, several warning lights would flash, and i would be immediately be forced to coast to the side of road each time. three instances posed serious risk to others as my car lost momentum before safely making it off the road, and other cars had to move around my car. problem matches the manufacturer communication below from 2015, which means this has been a long term design flaw. this needs to be marked as a safety recall. nhtsa id number: 10058725 manufacturer communication number: sb-15b22 summary on certain vehicles, transmission control module (tcm) had developed electrical circuit failures, resulting in an intermittent transmission engagement loss while driving or a lack of power or no start and software needs to be replaced
I traded my cube for fiesta. there are two recalls i found the attached in the glove compartment. i took it to sloan ford. they told me if it doesn't meet the specifications of a recall they won't do the repair work. tues they provided a shuttle service. i need the car to work. the car won't kick in from stop to start. it's a concern to me at a stop light. the window cover in passenger side dog chewed on the handle won't get replaced. also the window switch on front passender won't close. i'm concerned, i want to keep the car, but i can't have it stall out on me. i was told by the dealership they'd give free repair and loaner car. i got it from roberts honda in downingtown, and have an appointment sloan ford. it looks like prior owner had it looked at didn't bring it in for the repair. i also wasn't given a second key to the car. kindly help. it needs to kick in.. there's a transmission shutter and clutch repair job. i want to be safe in the car. service advisor sounded like he didn't want to do the work. i need the information on the warranty 3yr/36000 can't get it. if i'm at a light and starting up, it feels like a machine gun rifle.... the cat light came on one time on dash too. the strink to hold up the trunk lift was given with duct tape on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fiesta. the contact was not experiencing a failure with the vehicle until the transmission control module was replaced per a manufacturer recall. shortly after the dealer's repair, the vehicle failed to function properly. the dealer indicated that the clutch and the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the nhtsa campaign number was not provided. the failure mileage was not available.
When starting to accelerate, there is no power. the transmission then kicks back and it goes flying over 4000 rpms before it will shift. while driving, it will randomly give a slight kick and lose power, despite not increasing or decreasing pressure on the gas pedal. there was a class action lawsuit regarding this, i then got it "fixed" under warranty (total replacement of the clutch assembly) but the problem still persists. i have contacted the dealership i bought it from, and they will not return my calls or emails. i contacted ford and they will not take any responsibility either. i bought this car only a year ago and the kbb value has already dropped to less than what i still owe, presumably in part due to the lawsuit. i am at a loss for what to do now. not only am i financially hurting because of the constant trips to the shop and the loss of value, meaning i will never get out from under this car, but i am legitimately concerned for my safety and my life, and ford doesn't care. i do not want to continue to drive this death trap but as it's worth far less than what i owe, i can't get another vehicle because my funds are wrapped up in this one.
I purchased the vehicle pre-owned, 55,000 miles. the car drove fine for 3 weeks and after that would shudder when speeding up. now just three days ago, onjuly 1, 2017, my vehicle would not start at all. the alternator still has power and we have checked relays and fuses and jumped the battery but the car still will not start at all. i turn the key and it makes a clicking noise in my instrument panel and the needles on the panel start flickering. i was able to start it once but the vehicle showed that there was an engine malfunction to service now.
When accelerating from a stop the transmission acts as if it is going to stall we bought this vehicle new and have taken it in for repair 3 times
Manual transmission : goes in and out of gear while driving on its own. clutch peddle becomes loose and unable to place car into gear. after many attempts if finally goes into gear and returns to normal use. normal usage lasts for a few days then the problem returns. engine lite turns on and off at all times. have taken it in to be checked out and am informed "there is nothing wrong with it." *tr
The vehicle shuddered a lot, felt unsafe
When i purchased the car it has a really bad hesitation whenever it switched gears. i took it back the very next day and it was supposedly fixed. however when i got the car back i was told that the shutter would never go away because that's how the car was supposed to function. lately this is the third time i have had to take the car back since feb 2016. this last time i was leaving from my driveway onto the main road. when i switched gears from reverse to drive and press the gas the car would not accelerate. there were cars behind me who had to slam on brakes when they realize i was not moving anymore. i could've been hit and injured really badly. while eventually the vehicle did pick up it has happened several times. the lag in the car when you hit the gas, the horrible jerk, the shutter, and the violent shaking could put my children and i lives' at stake.
My fiesta will not shift past second gear. i have to lightly press the pedal for it to move at all, if it is pressed too hard it won't shift out of first. i am at 70,900 miles. i am currently waiting on the tow truck, hoping the issue is covered by the warranty extension.
Transmission , keeps on shaking a lot when in drive and taking off , at times it stops and does not go forward ,for 2 or 3 seconds on the road, when the seems to shift to another gear , it shakes and it seems it does not move forward in the middle of a intersection,i have already have taken to ford dealer several times for repairs and now i need to take it in again after thanksgiving, i have already spoke to someone at the dealer to see if they can replace the transmission, they said no , gas mileage is bad for a small car, getting tired of it, if i trade it in for another vehicle , i will not get a good deal because the transmission is bad, it is a safety hazard
My wife and i have consistently had issues dealing with the transmission of our 2012 ford fiesta se. the transmission fails to properly accelerate on a regular basis. specifically switching between 1 and 2 gear which is very important when it comes to accelerating. also, decelerating has been an issue with the gears not wanting to properly shift down. this is affecting my ability to stop the car. the car was taken to the dealership on 11-9-16 where the transmission control module had a recall and was supposed to be reprogrammed/replaced. the car is still continuously failing to shift properly and is almost as if the car is going to stall. lastly, there has been multiple occasions where the car would not crank/turn over. i have read many instances of other ford fiestas users cars not starting properly either.
The car jerks and hesitates on acceleration the clutch on the transmission has been replaced 6 times and has yet to fix the problem since i bought it used in 2013 ford will not help us trade in the car even though i was lied to many times about how it is a car that is only supposed to be driven by one person and so on and so on but if that is true how could the sale the car used plus not tell the consumer this before someone buys it they also said it is passed the lemon law time so i guess we are stuck with this dangerous car with my kids just like in other bad company they wait till someone gets in a wreck and dies before they help anyone truly ashame.
I bought my 2012 ford fiesta in 9/2015 with approx.16,000 miles on it. since i purchased the car, it has been in the shop 5 times (one of which for 26 days). #1 was due to the door latch. my 10yr old was sitting in the backseat when the right side door swung open while i was making a turn. #2 was due to the transmission. the car was having trouble shifting gears & began shaking, then the lights inside & out started blinking and the car completely shut off while i was driving down the highway. #3 was for the transmission again, which locked up while i was driving down i75 in naples the evening of 12/28/2015. the car completely locked up and had to be towed in the middle of the night. #4 the transmission again. while driving north on i75 the car started making a strange whinny noise then shortly after locked up while i was still driving. that time i barely made it off to the side of the highway. car was towed again to dealership. #5 transmission...again. while driving at 11:30pm at night 8/2016 car lights started blinking on & off and then the car completely shut off while i was driving. managed to be able to turn it on again and drive it to the dealership...where it stayed for 26 straight days. tomorrow will be #6...due to transmission problems...again. car is making whinny noises again, shaking and having trouble shifting gears, temperature light is coming on and a/c is not cooling anymore. tomorrow i'll be getting an attorney as well. *tr
