On average, the 2014 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL and its various aspects after 50 480 miles.

Components Affected by VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL Issues

We have classified the 35 complaints from 2014 Ford F-150 about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.

ACCELERATOR PEDAL 1

Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2014 Ford F-150

The speedometer dropped to zero while traveling 50 mph and the truck downshifted to 1st gear causing the tires to squeal, fishtail, and the rpm's redlined.i was almost rear ended. this has happened several times in the past couple weeks.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the engine suddenly shut off. after restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally; however, the check engine indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle actuator control system was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 216,000.

Periodically speedometer starts moving erratically at constant speed. as a result of this the engine starts shifting gears rapidly. this week while driving 60mph on the highway, the engine shifted abruptly from 6th to 1st gear causing a very dangerous situation.

I was merging onto the highway and when i went to accelerate my truck lost all power and decelerated and a wrench icon appeared on the display. i pulled over luckily safely without causing an accident turned my truck off and back on and did not experience this issue again. this is the 4th time this has happened. hopefully my family does not get harmed with this vehicle it is only a matter of time until someone does with this issue happening.

We were leaving to get lunch, came up to a stop sign at about 30mph with a car coming downhill on the road we were getting ready to take. i attempted to use my brakes to stop at the stop sign, i was unable to stop and had lost my brakes. there was a grinding noise and my foot that was on the brake was fully pressed. we rolled through the stop sign, cutting off the car. i found the brake booster, vacuum / master cylinder to be an issue after taking it to a mechanic and dealership. this was the second time i've had these parts replaced with about 9,000 miles difference between the two instances (the first instance was unreported to nhtsa). ford was contacted but i was informed there was nothing that could be done due to my state's (ohio) lemon law.

Wiper motor, radio/ ignition system, remote locking/ unlocking & cruise control. 1st issue: wiper motor will not turn to off, the wipers run intermittently in the off position every 20-30 seconds the wipers will run. pulled fuse until repairs can be made to switch and/or module. 2nd issue: when ignition is turned off & key removed, and the radio is playing or off, a low battery warning message appears: remove ignition key and turn off the radio. the issue will not cure unless truck is vacated & locked. dealer can't replicate issue no repairs made but still occurs from time to time. 3rd issue: power lock/ unlock by remote does not communicate with truck intermittently, replaced both remote batteries still having issues getting truck to unlock/ lock. dealer can't replicate problem & no repairs are made. 4th issue: cruise control will not disengage when pressing brake pedal, have to turn off cruise control from steering column. this issue never returned to date of this complaint, no repairs made. this issue should be a safety concern. with all the issues with truck no warning dash messages or lights. thanks, (xxxx) parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While driving on an interstate highway using cruise control, i needed to slow down for an exit. when i applied the brake pedal, the cruise control did not release and i had to apply quite a bit of brake pressure to slow down. i also hit the off button for the cruise control which did not deactivate the cruise control. when i braked, the speed was decreased but the cruise control was still on at the reduced speed. i kept hitting the off button, but the cruise control was still in operation. after doing this for about ten minutes, the cruise control finally deactivated. i used the cruise control later on this trip to test it and it worked as it should. i took the truck to the dealership on 3/6/19 and was told they would check it for a charge and would fix it for an additional charge; that charge depending on whether it was under warranty. i have an extended warranty to 100,000 miles and the vehicle only has a little over 20,000 miles. i told the service manager that it was a safety issue. he replied that a bald tire was a safety issue also, making the point that they did not intend to treat this as a safety issue where a repair would be done with no charge. he professed ignorance of any vehicles having a problem with the cruise control not deactivating. i showed him an article on the internet where fiat chrysler had several million vehicles recalled with this problem. he still said he had never heard of it. the dealership said they could not find a problem, but if it did it again, to bring it back.

Had to repair the "lead molded frame & gasket" ! truck would jump threw gears while moving at any speed. final draw was when truck dropped to 1st gear while traveling 70 mph on i-64 east nearly causing truck to flip over after screeching tires and running other cars off the road! ford dealership maintenance dept. told me there were recalls for same problem on f-150's but not for the year 2014 as mine is!.. please note if it were wet/raining at the time this happened to us, there would have been a severe accident with possible casualties...!!!

Etb. we lost power on are 2014 f 150 eco boost doing 50 plus miles an hour .. out of no where it started to not accelerate and just shut down . check engine popped on we managed to move to the side . it started up after two attempts then check engine light came on . it drove to nearest shop to have code checked they said oh its the etb.. that's recalled. so we explored and researching why it's not on recall. we were about a moment away from being slammed into the concrete medium from behind.

Was driving 70 mph on the interstate in heavy traffic when the wrench light indicator started flashing. the truck throttle became unresponsive and i had to coast to a stop crossing 2 lanes with no acceleration. very dangerous! had to turn the truck off and restart to gain back acceleration

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph and attempting to change lanes, the accelerator pedal was depressed and became stuck. the contact stated that the vehicle sped up to 80 mph. the contact was able to slow the vehicle down with the brake pedal. team ford lincoln (5445 drexel rd, las vegas, nv 89130, (702) 395-5100) was contacted and an appointment was made to have the vehicle diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 56,591. **tr consumer stated: i notified both team ford and ford corporation on 8-20-2018, 8-21-2018, 8-22-2018, 8-23-2018 sent certified letter to both on 8-28-2018. found out the complaint #case 15580321 was closed on 9-1-2018. on 8-20-18 my accelerator pedal stuck. stayed engaged. reaching over 80mph. slow, steady pressure to brake slowed 2014 ford f150. i reported incident to team ford and ford corporations on 8-22-2018 my accelerator speed was stuck at 72mph, after removing my foot from accelerator pedal. ia pplied slow and steady pressure to brakes. i pulled off u.s. 95 north on durango and reported 2nd incident to team ford and ford corporation. on 8-23-2018 team ford found no codes. floor mat was not the problem 9-19-2018. updated 10/19/18*jb

Loss of power and speed. wrench appears on dashboard. had to coast to highway shoulder. engine still running, but very rough. turned off engine, and restarted. this happened 9 times in 4 days going from salt lake city utah to florida. very dangerous! took it to local dealer on 7/25/2018. diagnosed for $89 and determined it was a faulty throttle body. it was replaced for an additional $284. problem corrected. ford customer service said my part was not covered by any previous recall or "customer satisfaction program"

Throttle control sporadically becomes unresponsive while in motion. vehicle must be stopped , placed in park, and restarted. occurs regardless of speed or driving conditions. p2112 error code

Throttle body failure while driving 70 mph on major highway with nowhere to pull over - total loss of acceleration while driving

I was driving down the highway when my truck lossed all throttle power. a wrench icon came up on my screen and i had to pull off the highway onto the shoulder. when i stopped the truck was shuddering really bad and wouldn't move. i turned it off and restarted it. the wrench went away and it would move again. i took it to a shop and they told me the electronic throttle body was stuck in the open position. this is the second time i'll be replacing the same part. first time was under warranty this time won't be. but when this part fails it is very dangerous. if it had failed while i was crossing lanes of traffic i could've been in a accident. you lose all throttle control when it sticks.

On 25 may18, my 2014 f-150 began completely losing throttle control. while trying to accelerate onto the highway at 55 mph, my truck would shut off with complete loss of throttle response, a wrench icon appeared, check engine light came on and i coasted to the shoulder safely without causing an accident. at complete stop, i had no throttle and a rough engine idle. i restarted the truck and drove home without issue. the following morning i drove the truck 70 miles round trip without incident. the following evening, i lost throttle x2 within .5 miles when i left my house. i drove to the dealership, 3 miles away, and the throttle went out 4 more times without warning creating a serious safety issue when making turns in intersections when i had complete loss of power. the dealership indicated the failure was the electronic throttle body. upon research, i found a class action lawsuit against ford for said issue, however my vin number was not "impacted" but the customer satisfaction program. replacement cost quoted by ford was $373.66 and inspection recommendation of "performing fuel injection and throttle body service." ah, throttle body would service would come under replacement, right? the service department rep agreed "i didn't even think of that." created a case # under the "customer satisfaction program" but made no headway on a known issue. will still cost $200 out of pocket with extended warranty. not a very satisfied customer - known problem with the throttle control and taking no ownership of issue by ford

While driving the vehicle and in motion when passing another vehicle the vehicle started to stutter and lose power. the engine icon started flashing. the icon went away shortly after this but this is the second time this has happened. after checking online there are several issues in regards to the 3.5 ecoboost engine doing this.

3 times within a 2 month period while driving, my truck displayed the wrench symbol in the evic screen and it went into limp mode.(the most recent was 2-28-18) pulled off to the side of the road, shut it down and restarted. than it worked as nothing happened. thank god i was not in heavy traffic or towing. this is an accident waiting to happen.

2014 ford f-150 xlt crew cab 4 door 5.4 coyote motor... i'll be driving down the road highway city street private road doesn't matter truck will shimmy go to 5th gear and stay there airbag light will come on display will save remove items from passenger seat.... it is done this about 10 times and a two-week time frame i can stop my truck turn it off wait a minute start it back up and it'll do fine for a couple hours sometimes a day and do it all over again

Driving at 55 mph in cruise control. touched brake to disengage cruise control and pressed accelerator pedal to pass a slow vehicle when pedal went to the floor and engine raced. i had to press brakes with all my might to slow vehicle to 45 mph and it kept climbing and pedal would not come up and engine speed would not slow. pressed off button for cruise control and nothing changed. finally after 5 miles heard a pop and the pedal came up and engine speed dropped to idle. could not stop earlier as 2 lane hwy. with no shoulder. guard rail and river on right and mountain cliffs on left side. brought to dealer who could find nothing wrong they stated.

2014 ford f-150 looses power at random times while on the highway. had the throttle body replaced in june of 2016 because of same problem. contacted ford and they said i'm out of warranty and i would have to pay for any service repairs. i do a lot of traveling with a trailer and it quit dangerous in heavy traffic trying to fine a spot to pull over. i was in the fort pitt two mile tunnel in pittsburgh when this happened last week. screeching tires and horns blowing i limped it out of the tunnel. where i found a place to pull over. what can i do? frustrated ford customer.

I previously files a complaint about this vehicle. after diagnostics and repairs being done, it turns out that it is the lead frame that has gone bad. this is the same issue with the recall of the 2011-2012 f150's nhtsa campaign # 16v248000 and ford recall campaign# 16s19. our vehicle has the same transmission 6r80 and was built in the dearborn michigan plant. our vehicle was unfortunately out of warranty by 400 miles on this issue so we had to pay out of pocket. this year vehicle should have been included in the recall from 2016 and i have done enough research to see that there are many people all over the internet complaining of the exact same issue in the 2014 f150's. maybe ford should be forced to recall the 2014's for this safety issue before someone gets hurt!!! this issue caused our vehicle at 55 mph to come to a skidding halt on a very busy highway!! we could have had a serious accident!!

Almost had several accidents due to a downshift into first gear while driving at approx 55 mph. the truck downshifted into first gear, rear wheels locked up and i was barely able to get it off to the side of the road. i see on the internet that this has been happening to many ford f150's. saw a recall for the exact same thing but it only applied to 2011 and 2012 ford f150's. all owners felt that their year vehicle should be included in recall. i feel that the 2014 should definitely be included in the recall. my 2014 is doing exactly what the 2011 and 2012's have been recalled for. i only have 60k highway miles on this truck!! below you ask for dates of this happening. it has happened many times. the dealership has ignored this. i will post the most recent date that it happened.

F150 repeatedly lost all acceleration and power. the truck went into a very limited low power state and many near collisions were narrowly avoided as the truck rapidly lost all acceleration and glided to a stop.a red wrench symbol appeared on the driver display stating a "mechanical" issue. this happened 50 plus times on surface streets and 10 plus times while on interstate highways under normal driving conditions. this issue got progressively worse over a two-week period culminating in the throttle body assembly being fully replaced.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle did not accelerate properly while passing other vehicles. additionally, the fuel mileage was not calculating correctly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure in 2014. the failure mileage was 46,620.

Symptoms of failure: on or about 1/25/17 the truck began completely losing throttle control. while trying to accelerate onto the highway or traveling at highway speeds up to 70mph truck would shut off with complete loss of throttle response, a blue wrench icon would appear and the driver would have to try and coast to the shoulder safely without causing an accident. at a complete stop the truck would continue to not have throttle control, to regain throttle control the driver would have to restart the truck. the truck would then drive for a short period of time and lose throttle again several miles down the road. this problem proved to be a very serious safety issue while trying to make turns across lanes of traffic not knowing if the truck would lose power and throttle control in the path of an oncoming vehicle. this issue proved to be equally dangerous while suddenly slowing from highway speeds in heavy traffic with no throttle control and complete loss of power. the truck was delivered to ford autonation of orange park 7700 blanding blvd, jacksonville, fl 32244 on 1/26/17 and left in their care for prognosis. on or about 1/26/17 ford autonation of orange park determined the cause of failure to be the electronic throttle body, the electronic controller had failed inside the throttle body and the unit would need to be replaced. was quoted $667 and told it was not covered under the powertrain warranty. called ford customer satisfaction department and started a case (cas-11570094) on 1/26/17 followed up every day, and on 1/30/2017 was contacted by autonation ford to explain that i would be partially covered and would need to pay an out of pocket expense of $250. needing the truck back i agreed to pay the $250 out of pocket expense while continuing to make and attempt to regain my out of pocket a later date.

The operator called and informed us that the vehicle acted like it wouldn't accelerate. when he stomped down on the pedal the vehicle went full acceleration and stayed there. hitting the brakes didn't help. the cruise control was on but not set. he tried pulling up on the pedal, turning off cruise and killed truck and restarted to max acceleration, killed the engine, restarted and it reset and went to working. we have no codes, inspected throttle body and cleaned, inspected wiring and app operation, other than graph signals were choppy and not fairly smooth (no diagnosis).

Steering wheel switch controls (cruise control, radio, blue tooth functions) become erratic and switch functions become jumbled (ie. activating the radio volume control switch may change the radio station or increase vehicle speed). problem is intermittent, but did occur during a dealer service visit. the dealer replaced switch pack, but problem still persists. i conducted my own research and found other f150 owners having similar issues. some have been solved with the replacement of the steering column clock spring. with the unpredictability of when this issue presents itself i have resorted to never using the cruise control feature due to the risk of unintended speed changes. while the remaining issues are inconvenient, i would not classify them as dangerous. the clock spring issue appears to be common enough to warrant a more thorough investigation. for those using the cruise control feature are at an increased risk of an inadvertent activation which may lead to an accident and possible death. refer to the following utube link for a demonstration of the issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1ofg0-qovi

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power. in addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the service vehicle soon warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 39,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while attempting to accelerate from a stop light, the vehicle jerked and sounded as if it would stall. the vehicle suddenly accelerated and was taken to a local dealer, but no failures could be found. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure mileage was 14,000.

Unintended acceleration event, 2014 ford f150, 5.0 l v-8. no damage or injuries. occurred 10/27/15 at approx. 2 pm in spring hill florida, 80 degrees and raining. experienced sudden full open throttle condition when braking the vehicle as i pulled into a parking stall at a bank. brake restrained the vehicle from lunging forward for several seconds until i shifted into neutral. acceleration was sufficient to spin the tires on the damp pavement. in neutral the throttle went to max rpm for 2 to 3 seconds, then slowed to idle. cruise control was not in use and floor mat was not near the accelerator. vehicle is scheduled to be checked at the ford dealership on fri 10/30. my passenger is a witness.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while at a stop sign, the accelerator pedal was depressed and failed to respond. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal required to be depressed violently in order to respond. the contact mentioned that the turbo booster failed to engage. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver side turbo needed to be replaced. in addition, the passenger side turbo o-ring needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred weeks later. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

While traveling to san diego - as we exited off the freeway the cruise control failed to release. stepping on the brake, turning off the switch did not change the stuck cruise control. we were going 70 mph as we exited and continued at 70 for about 1/2 mile - through 1 stop sign and 3 stop lights before were able to get to a safe place to turn the key off and loose all control of steering of the truck. we turned onto a side street. turned off the truck 10-15 seconds - upon turning the truck back on it went immediately to 6000 rpm's burning rubber only reason we did not speed out of control again is because had both feet on the brake. turned truck off again waited 10 minutes - turned it on again - the cruise control had finally released. we drove to the nearest ford dealership which was 5 miles. they found nothing wrong with the truck - when we returned home we took it to our local dealer where we bought the truck - they found nothing wrong and said to bring it back if it happens again - we may not be alive next time to bring it back! *tr

Vehicle was stopped at a red light with the operator's foot on the bake, vehicle began to accelerate unintentionally, operator was unable to stop and avoid collision of car in front of truck until the vehicle was placed in park. this prevented a collision from occurring. incident occurred a second time on 1/22/2015 when vehicle was stopped at intersection. truck narrowly missed oncoming traffic before transmission was forced by operator into "park". continuing to apply pressure on the brakes and pumping the brakes were not successful in stopping the acceleration of the vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 2 mph with the brakes engaged, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal simultaneously. as a result, the contact's vehicle crashed into the preceding vehicle. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the contact stated that there was not enough space between the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 8,000. updated 02/24/15*lj the consumer stated the dealer advised the vehicle operated as designed. updated 10/7/2015 *js

2014 f150 ecoboost v6 - engine shudders and stalls upon rapid acceleration; issue has been addressed with "deflector shield" but this shield is already in place in my vehicle but the vehicle continues to have this issue - i feel the vehicle is unsafe but ford offers no assistance with resolution of the issue. *tr
