Timing chain stretched due to poor design. making a knocking sound during cold start. cam sensor is triggering check engine light.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and lost power. the check engine indicator immediately illuminated. the contact managed to pull the vehicle over to the shoulder of the highway and the check engine indicator dimmed briefly. the contact called the nearest ford dealer and was informed that since the check engine indicator was no longer illuminated, he should continue to drive the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to larry h. miller ford lakewood, 11595 w 6th ave, lakewood, co 80215, (720) 643-1545) and repaired. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they added an air deflector per technical service bulletin: 13-08-01. the contact was concerned that the manufacturer did not issue a recall. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 51,251.
I have a certified pre owned ford f150 2012 lariat 4wd super crew 3.5l ecoboost, and i am having metal tapping noise in the top front of the engine on cold start up !!! i took it to ford and they stated there was no trouble code set ! and said no issue present, my truck has only 70,000 miles and i cant get ford to verify engine problem !
My 2012 ford f-150 3.5 l eco boost, on start up in the morning the engine makes a loud chatter in the upper front of the motor, i purchased the truck 2 mounth's ago it had 54000 miles on it, purchased as certified pre owned.
Exhaust manifold studs. design flaw of the exhaust manifolds on the f-150 ecoboost causing manifold bolts to snap/sheer, which in turn causes the manifolds to warp. this is causing noise, and possibly exhaust gases to enter the passenger compartment. ford is offering a fix under program code: 17m05 for the f450/f550, but is excluding the other "f series" trucks which suffer from the same/similar issue. the issue was noticed immediately after an engine misfire began occurring (which is also a known issue). the dealership has quoted $1,400 to replace the manifolds and studs.
While driving, i noticed that i was having to push on the accelerator harder to get power. i came to a stop at a stop sign and waited for an opening to turn left at the intersection. when i started to turn left, the truck started to accelerate and then the engine sounded like it revved up but there was no power or speed increase and a simply coasted out into the middle of the road. the traffic coming from the left was coming up over a hill and i was very lucky that they were able to stop before hitting me. the truck was able to pick up speed down hill, but lost speed quickly going up hill. i could see this being a dangerous issue when crossing a busy intersection or trying to pass. i took the truck to the dealership and was told the timing chain stretched. the truck had only 74000 miles.
Upon cold startup my truck makes a terrible rattling noise for 2-5 seconds. their is a current tsb out to fix this issue from ford to replace primary chain and all 4 phasers. this only gets fixed under new vehicle limited warranty, which my truck is out of. ford acknowledges there is a problem, but unwilling to issue a recall and fix this issue for the many people it is affecting.
Loss of power while driving, depressing accelerator does not power the vehicle, speedometer needle not working. once able to steer vehicle safely to side of road and turned off and back on, vehicle responds as expected. happened twice already, on 8/24/2017 and 8/29/2017.
While driving on the highway i experienced severe reduced engine power during a acceleration for an attempted pass. an issue ford was aware would happen without the deflector plate due to design flaw! no alert to the owners that it was a potential concern, bring the vehicle in for a check - no word at all! if there was a known problem with their turbo design leading to compounding premature failure, why wouldn't they let the owners know" the dealership would have had ample opportunity to inform me of the issue if that was their intention as i visit regularly
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle misfired and the steering failed without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 70,000.
At 70k miles, my timing chain stretched causing me to have to have it replaced costing $3200. this is a known issue by ford and there is an official technical service bulletin for this issue. this issue is dangerous and caused serious acceleration issues while driving almost causing a wreck as i tried to accelerate up hill.
3.5 ecoboost engine 75,000 miles, engine noise on startup and check engine light registering a p0016 crankshaft/camshaft position sensor, and goes into "limp mode" with loss of power and poor acceleration. dealership states this is a recognized issue with the timing chain and tsb 14-0194 addresses the issue. dealership states this is a $ 1,500- $ 2,000 repair and is not covered by ford. timing chains should last longer than shock absorbers.
The truck will automatically downshift by itself while driving. it is experiencing the exact same issue that is a part of recall 16v248000 but our specific vin isn't a part of it at this time. it is not safe to drive as at any speed above 45 it downshifts.
I have a 2012 ford f 150 with 66,800 miles on it and have changed one of the turbos . about may of 2017 i noticed a shutter and shaking of the engine, then lose of power, failure to accelerate on hills, the vehicle would down shift for no reason or you had to put the gas peddle to the floor to even move then it would kick in and cause the wheels to spin. i took the vehicle to my local ford dealer to diagnose the check engine light. i was told that one of the turbos needed replaced at a cost of $1800, well i had it replaced at my own personnel garage and after driving the vehicle 5 miles it had all the same issues. i called the ford hot line 3 times asking what they will do to fix my truck, i was told the warranty ran out at 60000 miles, i explained the vehicle just started doing this and i did not haul anything and only drove it about 12000 miles a year, this should not be happening. this is very dangerous trying to drive a vehicle that losses power then accelerate without warning. ford told me there were some recalls on the 3.5 l eco-boost engine but not on my truck. i have been a ford man for over 40 years, i bought this truck brand new in 2012 and ford will not do anything but charge me more money, i do not beat my truck i baby it, i take very good care of my vehicles, this is not my fault it is poor engine designee and ford should fix this for me because as i said it is a safety hazard for me and anyone else on the road with this engine.
Ecoboost engine in this model is known to have functioning problems when it warms up and you are on the highway at highway speeds. the truck will start to lose power and almost feel like it will stall at highway speeds. it is a known problem with ford and well described on many auto forums on the web. i took my truck in and they are charging me for a "fix". this is a documented problem which ford even has as an internal service bulletin about. i have never been charged by any other auto company when they come out with a service bulletin except for this company. more importantly i had to explain what is on the web about this to the service tech at the ford dealership--like a patient explaining to his surgeon what the problem is and how to operate on him to fix it---very odd and concerning. either way, it is very possible to get into an accident on the highway---and maybe it has already happened. my son primarily drives this vehicle and has been mentioning it to me for months. i passed it off as bad gas or the way he was driving. we had taken it to a firestone dealer for an oil change and they recommended we take it to the dealer .
When i start the truck the engine light is on, while driving the truck stalls and looses power and the tool sign comes on in read out window. i have to pull over and put the truck in park and restart it. this happens every 100 yards or so. i under stand this is an ongoing problem with the 2012 f150 ford trucks. i can't understand why the want have a recall. i understand they need to add a deflector shield under the motor. it's very dangerous when a vehicle looses power while driving down the highway.
My 2012 f150 ecoboost 3.5 studders severely, hesitates, and will not accelerate when trying to pass on the highway. the dealer has bulletins addressing this. i have been told multiple repairs that now are not under warranty including cac cooler deflector, spark plugs, catalytic converter, cam phasers, timing belt, and many others. the truck started this problem and may now require the turbos be replaced. this is a very common problem with this motor and ford is well aware of the issue. this defect should be covered by ford.
Already had timing belt replaced at 84,000 miles. now at 85,600 miles i was on ramp merging onto hwy. when a blinking engine light came on, loss of power, and truck shook like crazy. i felt like it was a poltergeist. took next exit off and came to a complete stop. engine light went off and truck acted normally again. damp conditions. not liking all the complaints i have read and certainly not liking the sporatic unknown. i think i'll be trading this $50,000 lariat in for something else. ford needs to react, that was a scary situation on the freeway with trucks bearing down on me.
I am unsure if it is a down shift or what, but my truck shakes and is very scary. i have experienced sudden power lose and a failure to accelerate.
Multiple occurrences of shudder/jerking on 3.5l ecoboost engine; exact symptoms as described in nhtsa id#10051923, 10052207, 10053407, 10052790, 10052788, 10058096, and 10058115. all of these investigations have been closed with ford issuing tsb's, but dealers claim ignorance, ignore copies of the tsbs and refuse to perform repairs under drivetrain warranty. this is a safety problem as failure to accelerate entering an interstate highway has almost cost me two collisions. apparently nhtsa is as useful on complaints/investigations as fcc is on do not call list complaints. opened a case with ford, response is they cannot force dealers to perform tsbs under warranty. all three occurrences of this problem were after driving at highway speeds for a minimum of two hours in damp conditions under hard acceleration; two were when re-entering highway from left lane service areas in nj and md. after 1st two times a dealer in md replaced two ignition coils at my expense claiming coils were not covered by drivetrain warranty. most recent occurrence was 1/1/18, local dealer in nh ignored ford tsb 12-10-19 when given a copy and said "these trucks just burn coils and spark plugs". i was charged a diagnostic fee again and nothing was replaced/fixed as i refused to pay approx. $600 to replace drivetrain parts.
I have a 2012 ford f150 ecoboost. recently my family was out of town trying to make our way home when my truck shutters and lost power for a minute, followed by a blinking check engine light and then a solid check engine light. i took it into my local dealership and was told i need to replace spark plugs and coil packs, and it would cost over $500. i was amazed by this considering the truck only has 55,000 miles on it and it is recommended by ford to replace spark plugs at 100,000 miles. to add to my amazement, my fairly expensive extended warranty didn't cover this, not even the coil pack replacement, which to me seems like a warranty issue considering they went bad so early into the engines life. i know this is a common problem on these trucks and have read extensively on the issue. how is this not something that is being addressed?
The ses, service engine soon, light came on. i noticed my truck lacking power and taking longer to shift gears when accelerating. it become less of a smooth shift and more jerky. when traveling on the highway at ~70 mph, the engine would not hold 6th gear. it would drop to 5th and 4th gear, until i gave it more gas. it would reach 3500 rpm's at times before shifting which was not normal. i also noticed starting in the fall of 2016 a short loud abnormal noise at cold start. after researching these issues, this led me to tsb 14-0194, code p0016, dealing with the 3.5l ecoboost engine. i took my truck to my local dealer and this was the issue. i have been the only owner of less than 5 years and was at 75,500 miles, out of the 60,000 mile warranty. i just had the repair done, costing me $3600. the repair included parts listed in tsb 14-0194 as well as timing belts, additional gaskets, seals, guides, tensioner, cam, sprocket, gear crankshaft, among others. i question how this known issue of timing chain stretch with the tsb is not a recall. this problem can cause an accident when accelerating on to a freeway. it can also cause an accident by suddenly downshifting while driving. i am glad my truck is fixed, however did not like the price tag. i fear that this known issue will lead to a deathly accident and it is unfortunate that a recall has not been issued yet. i hope this post helps make a change, saving consumers a costly repair and even someones life from a future accident.
In warm weather the truck suddenly shakes and downshifts to first gear no matter what speed you are going. the speedometer stops working, a wrench is displayed on dash sometimes. the speed after doing this does not exceed 20-25 mph. if we can safely get to the shoulder of the road and turn truck off and restart it everything resets. this happens atleast once daily, sometimes more than once daily. it always happens when truck is in motion. it does not matter what speed as it has happens at different speeds and on one occasion when i was in the process of stopping for a red light. the last occurrence happened today, but it has been happening for several months. when it is cold outside it does happen less, maybe once weekly instead of multiple times daily when the weather is warm outside.
During medium to heavy acceleration, the engine starts shuddering and vibrating ..if you let off the gas, it calms down a little but still runs rough until you come to a stop. then at idle, it seems to correct itself. if you continue to accelerate through the vibration, it shakes and shudders more violently and doesn't quit until you come to a stop. it appears ford has issued a tsb for this issue but will only cover the cost if it is still under warranty.
Under aceleration in heavy traffic in damp weather conditions, truck engine misfired and totally stalled-out causing major traffic jam. has happened twice. engine acted as if there was water in the fuel system. ... has misfired several times in damp or wet highway conditions.
While driving on the highway i experienced severe reduced engine power during a hard acceleration for an attempted pass. upon completion of a diagnostic, i was told there was a misfire in cylinders 1-3. the technician informed us the circumstances and results were hallmark for a known condition related to moisture accumulation in the charge air cooler (cac) for turbochargers in 3.5l ecoboost engines of my model year. the vehicle had just over 54k miles on it at the time of the incident (typical mileage for the problem to manifest). the vehicle was maintenanced one week after the incident at the dealership i purchased it new from. the dealership cited the cause of the misfire as bad coil packs - 4 of them at the time of arrival. coil packs typically have a lifespan of 100-150k miles before failure. however, 4 of them went bad (3 simultaneously) in a vehicle with <55k miles on it. literature posted about others/similar situations read the same - bad coil packs, due to ingestion of water into the turbo. an issue ford was aware would happen without the deflector plate due to design flaw! no alert to the owners that it was a potential concern, bring the vehicle in for a check - no word at all! if there was a known problem with their turbo design leading to compounding premature failure, why wouldn't they let the owners know? the dealership would have had ample opportunity to inform me of the issue if that was their intention as i visit regularly. the call center rep said they don't have to tell us anything unless there is a recall. so basically they manufacture dangerous/problematic vehicles until nhtsa slaps their hand about it!? i surely hope everyone who has this issue is reporting it to nhtsa but i doubt they know it is an option and ford is profiting from having additional maintenance performed at their dealerships. *tr
When starting my 2012 f150 i turn the key and there is a delay and then it starts don't think that is right i get 15.6 miles per gal on my 3.5 eco-boost and kicking in the passing gear i loose power and eng. light comes on 3 times this has happen all times i pull over and shut truck off and restart light goes out.
The truck suddenly decelerated and a warning light came on. the first time i was on a residential street and went from 25 to 2 mph w/o any other traffic. the second time it was on a state highway and we went from 45 to 2 mph with traffic behind us. the dealer said the throttle body needed to be replaced because of a bad sensor. this is apparently a known issue on 2015/2016 model years, but not on 2012's. the dealer said it is the same problem and ford has recalled newer trucks because of it.
The vehicle was purchased used from a dealership with 95,000 miles. at 115,000 miles the vehicle exhibited a rattling sound at startup and was taken to a mechanic. the mechanic noted the problem was with the tming chain and ford had issued tsb 14-0194. he advised it should be addressed by a ford dealer. the ford dealer inspected and agreed with the diagnosis, primary timing chain wear, and provided an estimate of $2,200 for the repairs. shocked by the need for a major engine repair at this mileage, a complaint was issued to ford corp. they responded through the dealership offering nothing. the dealership's service consultant noted the vehicles service records indicate the timing chain had already been replaced under warranty. further research indicates this is a common and recurring problem for this model year. i expect a recall to be issued.
On friday november 4/2016 at approximately 2:00 pm i was traveling west bound on highway 401 in my 2012 ford pick up (vin1ftfx1cfocfc04553) towing a boat when my truck lost all power and stalled. it was all i could do to safely get my vehicle to the shoulder and this was only due to the fact that i was traveling in the right lane at the time. i did not feel safe on the side of the road where i was and tried several times to start the truck and drive up the road to an off ramp to exit the highway but the truck would only start and immediately stall. apparently, a very tiny spider had been pulled into the mass air sensor and this somehow killed my truck and almost me.how does ford allow a sensor like this to completely shut down a vehicle and what is or has ford done about such a obvious dangerous safety issue here that can clearly cause serious injury or death?
In heavy rain conditions after driving for 2 hours in the pacific northwest on the i-5 the truck ecoboost turbo stalled and lost power during a passing situation of a large 18 wheeler. i was driving at 60 mph, and attempted a pass, but was unable to pass due to power loss, shudder, and limp mode. intermittent check engine light and partial limp mode occurred. this is the known stall/shudder issue that multiple ecoboost motors on f150s are experiencing in rainy damp conditions. severe safety issue if you are trying to pass on a two lane highway and you lose power while trying to pass a logging truck and someone follows you and you get only half way. this is the second incident i have had with this truck. dealer did a tsb that involved reprogramming the pcm and removing a deflector shield. this fix seems like a band aid, and ford should be doing a complete redesign of the turbo cooler intake.
Loss of power under hard acceleration, undiagnosed misfire at all speeds. these problems occur in dry and wet conditions. the truck lost power on the interstate twice and i had to pull over and shut it down then restart to continue (around 20k miles). this occurred while under warranty, dealer said they couldn't do anything because there was no sel activated. as mileage had increased, misfire are worsening even after water is removed from air cooler and spark plugs replaced. my truck was at a dealer for 3 days and they told me they did not know what was wrong. normally changing the plugs and cleaning out the air cooler fixes the problems for a while until now. i have even replaced a coil because it is throwing a code for #1 cylinder not firing. the new coil made no difference. the vehicle has 133,000 miles and is almost not drivable it has gotten so bad. i have submitted my complaint to ford customer service as well.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 40 mph and shook violently. the contact had to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road to a complete stop. the engine was shut off and restarted in order for the vehicle to return to normal. the failure occurred at least 30 times within the past year. the vehicle was taken twice to independent mechanics and one time to the dealer. the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 137,919.
Truck looses power under hard acceleration. i have had it in two other times with the same issue and it was diagnosed that the spark plugs had cracked. i have it scheduled to go back in later this week again. i'm guessing the plugs cracked again. i've been given no answers as to why this is happening.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that the engine had sludge, the vehicle had a strong hesitation, and stalled more than twice. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and repair shop more than once for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving approximately 50 mph, the contact felt oil dripping underneath the dashboard without warning. the dealer was in the process of diagnosing the vehicle. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 64,000. the vin was not provided.
My f150 is constantly experiencing the exact dangerous malfunction that safety recall 16s19 describes. ford is not providing any rental assistance and currently does not know when a solution will be available. my transmission will have issues shifting to the next gear, rev up way farther than necessary to shift and then stall. i have to turn off my truck and turn it back on several times to get rid of the issue just to get me to my destination. this occurs on 50% of my drives around the city. i will not dare take it further than 10 miles in fear that i might be stranded and forced to pay for towing. ford has also told me i must prove something is wrong with my vehicle to even apply for a rental. my local ford service is not able to find anything wrong besides the exact issue i'm describing. it's a pandora's box, built to put the consumer in the worst position risking injury or death driving a faulty vehicle or paying the bill for a rental.
For the second time since owning the vehicle, we have gotten a service code of p0019, and during the time of the engine light being on, we experienced severe loss of power, to the point had to pull off of the side road, after a few minutes, restarted vehicle, it was able to resume. took to dealer, they said no problem, because it was under warranty. now, fast forward another two years, and 80,000 miles, with no more warranty, same issue has happened, major loss of power while accelerating and causing the entire truck to vibrate, this time, engine light is on and code p0018 and p0019, back to the ford dealer, they made me change the turbo sensors, charged me $900 and still the problem exists. now they want to change the cam shafts and timing chain guides, charge me another $2,400, and will not guarantee the issue will be resolved. there must be something going on here that an engine cannot last more than 85,000 before needing major engine work. now i find there are several complaints as it relates to the ecoboost engine, and ford is unwilling to stand behind their poor quality product and that built ford tough means only during the 36,000 mile warranty. amazing that a $40,000 vehicle, can't even make it to 100,000 miles.
A ticking/knocking noise on passenger side of engine. took to ford dealer with 52,905 miles on 7/12/16 and stated fuel injector noise. took to same ford dealer on 11/7/18 for same noise, only louder, and dealer detected no unusual noise. took to different dealer a 3rd time on 3/27/19 for the same problem and stated "noise found to be normal characteristics" and was given a copy of "special service message 47787 which addressed a "tick tap and/or typewriter noise at idle" issue. this problem was brought to the attention of ford while it was still under manufactures warranty and the sound is only getting worse which is why i keep taking it to a ford dealership. the sound is not heard when the vehicle is first started, only when it starts to warm up and is quite loud at an idle. if this engine were to blow up going down the highway or interstate could potentially cause an accident resulting in injury and/or fatal crash.
Noticed small amount of coolant on the ground. started to notice over the next couple days larger amounts of coolant after driving. took truck into dealer and the water pump had already gone bad. was under warranty so it was replaced for free.
Engine rattle upon startup, 3.5l eco boost engine. usually only when the vehicle has sat for some time.
The vehicle will lose power and begin to shudder. cold starts it will shudder and rpm will bounce from 400 to 1100. will lose power in turns and while stopped. dealer has had the vehicle 3 times and cannot find a problem.
2012 f-150 ecoboost with 55k miles. sever loss of power and missing during idle and acceleration. the issue started at 15k miles and after a lot of pushing, ford installed the deflector shield for water. that solve the problem for heavy rain, but the missing, lack of power, and poor mileage has persisted and is getting worse. the issue happens when the vehicle is in park, stationary in drive, and while under power. it is really bad when it is under heavy power. this is dangerous when it comes to merging into traffic and loosing power all of the sudden. it seems to be worse when it is hot and/or hot and humid out.
F150 2012 in traffic engine dies goes into the limp home mode which is under 5 mph engine will restart but you have to come to complete stop put in park and start and your good to go until it happens again and it will. not at all safe does it on the freeway or city driving no warning just dies.had to dealership numerous before it was discovered it was a bad throttle replaced at my expense
I have a 2012 with 78000 miles. i am experiencing the very common tsb15-0131. a few months back i started to hear a rattle at some engine starts but now it is occurring daily. i only started to research the noise recently and came across a lot of others on the web forums. i dropped it off at a local dealer. the guy made it sound like this is something new or never heard of. long story short, they had the truck 4 days and claimed they heard no rattle when starting. after getting my truck back from the local dealer i have heard the noise every morning when i started the engine. i video record my engine at start up and plan to from now on. i called my purchasing dealer to see what they can do. they were going to check and let me know. i heard back and they say since i am out of warranty there is nothing they can do. they said i have to contact ford customer service to go further and gave me the phone number. i contacted them who said the same thing..sorry no more warranty. i do not think this is right. i understand my extended warranty is just past but this seems to be a prevalent issue with the 3.5 ecoboost engines. i paid over one thousand dollars to upgrade to this engine after seeing and hearing advertisements about its benefits and durability. now, when it has a problem by no fault of mine, i am told that it will not be taken care of. this was my first ford and will be my last.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving at various highway speeds, the check engine light suddenly illuminated. the vehicle went into limp mode and caused the speed to reduce to less than 20 mph. the failure occurred on several occasions and the vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times. the spark plugs were replaced, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 56,300.
F-150 with ecoboost engine fails with hard acceleration in wet conditions. fords fix is to install a new part due to a design defect that allows water to be ingested resulting in spark plug failure. on 4/17/2016 while attempting to merge on highway 57 the engine failed to power up and "bogging" down. this forced me on to the shoulder in order to avoid a collision with a 18 wheeler.
When on cruise control going 60-70 mph, and you pull out to pass and step on the gas, the ecoboost "hesitates" and will not gain speed, but loose speed. i can only stop this by downshifting, then reengaging the gas. this can be a very dangerous situation. this has happened about 10 times over the last 4 years.
When driving at speeds less than 20 miles per hour the engine will make a loud clunking noise. i have taken the vehicle in to ford on several occasions and they had never been able to reproduce the problem until today. they told me the rear transmission mount needs to be replaced. this problem has been going on since the day i purchased the vehicle. my last service visit they found a problem with the 4wd vacuum seals that they attributed to this issue and fixed that problem. i thought would resolve my issues but it did not. i am not confident that fixing the rear transmission mount is going to resolve the vehicle problems. i recently had the issue found in #pe13018 resolved by the dealership.
Vehicle fuel pump shuts off while driving due to fuel pump fuse (location #27) burning up in fuse box. after my vehicle shutting down while driving several times, last on the highway, with a total loss of power steering and other safety concerns, i found ford has issued a tsb (tsb 15-0137) with a work around fuse relocation. this is unsatisfactory as this is a known issue to ford, but not the consumer, putting drivers at risk. the fuse at issue, location #27, literally melted and burned up in the socket.
