Three days ago while driving on a city street in heavy traffic, i suddenly got an advance track warning on my dash display afterva right turn. that warning was immediately followed by a power steering fault warning. i lost power steering and pulled over at the first opportunity. about an hour after pulling over i started the vehicle and got the same warnings but the power steering worked as normal and shortly after driving the faults cleared. this issue has occured on my 10 minute commute to work and back for the past two days along with an intermittent binding sensation and subtle jerking of the steering wheel.

Power steering suddenly failed and the service advancetrac light came on while accelerating from a stop sign and turning left. maneuvered the car down the street and couldn't navigate the driveway so i backed up and the power steering began working but the advancetrac light remained on. this light came on before but with no effect to the steering only the blinkers, which would not stay on. disconnected the battery and light and problem went away. spoke with the dealer and was told that it was also connected to the abs braking system and to schedule an appointment if these happens again. 114800 miles.

I was driving slowly through a parking lot and a fault appeared in the dash 'power steering assist fault' and just like that the power steering went out. i stopped the truck and removed the keys. the system rebooted and when i started it up it worked fine for about 30 minutes when i stopped to get gas. upon restart the same issue occurred. i rebooted it, and it took 3 rebooted this time to get the steering back. i stopped one more time and it happened again. same issue, same temporary resolution. this time i was able to drive 45 minutes. upon researching this issues i see many complaints on this same issue within the last 30 days on the same model. that's a bit more than a coincidence. given that the only solution for this costs $1800 and so many people are having the same issue within the same short time frame, this deserves investigation.

Lost power stearing a year ago dash warning reads power stearing assist fault. at the same time my heater blower stopped working. my mechanic was able to reset the fault and steering would come back but usually for a day or two. it would fault out during this time but i could shut off and restart the truck and it would reset the fault but on the fourth attempt at this would not reset the fault . this went on for a month or so as we tried to figure out the problem. then one day it would no longer reset at all. so i had the steering rack replaced. last april. less then 5000 km later in september the steering fault happened again along with traction control fault and disingrated the front passengers side brake. and the heater blower motor went again. these racks and the labour intensive replacement along with the cost of the other fixes is astronomical. i am about too install the third rack.with no confidence at all that i will not be back too square one in sept again. the saying goes the diffinition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. so she goes for sale when fixed. the vehicle was always in motion when fault occurred.

Rack & pinion i've got a 2012 ford f-150 that we have always taken to the dealer it's only got 63k miles on it. so when the steering system fail fault code popped up on the screen we were shocked. we never had any indication of a problem. it was friday august 23 2019 evening we we're just going to grab some dinner my husband pulled the truck back out of the drive way and immediately noticed the power steering was not working that's when we noticed the screen. we researched and found out it was very possibly the rack and pinion because the power steering is electrical and it's in the rack and pinion. we took the truck to the dealer and prayed it wasn't what we thought. unfortunately it was. so here we are $1846.00 later. i'm just glad my husband was driving. if it had been me driving in traffic i dont know what would have happened. all the complaints we found all over the internet we had hoped it was a recall but no such luck. hope this helps anyone else that has this problem.good luck

Electric power steering and traction control went out

Power assist light came on in sparks nv. while pulling into a park full of people, steering was hard and blinkers will not stay on. pulled over and cycled the key with no responce, dissconnectd the battery and this had no affect either, at a 137343 mi on this truck has had no major problems. this truck has pulled a livstock trailor most of these miles. i drove 80 miles home in this conditon with no other computer errors. lets get it fixed ford!

My 2012 f150 with 82k, miles on it 08/08/2019 got in my vehicle starter vehicle it made a strange noise from engine compartment proceeded to back out of driveway and had no power steering. what scares me is what if i had been on the freeway at 50 miles an hour or better and the power steering went out? also my door lock on driver side would not work paid $400 to have it fixed now the passenger side has failed. my question is what if i could not get out if my trucks power steering went out while driving and crashed i couldn't get out. i feel this is not a coincident,i feel this is factory defective parts! there's too many of the same reported incidents, does someone have to die before we get a fix? my next step is social media and a 20 20 investigation into why no one has made an attempt to save human lives as opposed to bribery and fat bank accounts. i believe it is a power steering modular/factory defect. also i don't know what is making the door locks fail except for factory defective equipment,i'm not a mechanic just a hard working american citizen, made in america used to mean something! i've made copies of this report for future use. for future correspondence; [xxx] to whomever receives this report i hope doesn't put it in the dead file. thank you, i think? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Steering was very stiff this morning turning around in the driveway. was more like manual steering than power steering. after driving around throughout the day the steering eventually loosened up and felt like power steering again. i learned that my truck has electric power steering.

While driving my 2012 f-150 i received a power steering warning light on the dashboard computer and the steering went out almost cause me to swerve into oncoming traffic. this happened without warning while my vehicle was in motion. the steering went out and i had to muscle the wheel to turn the vehicle.

Advance trac light came on and blinkers stopped working. dealer charged 105 to diagnose, came back and said steering rack need ed to be replaced. at almost 2000.00. turns out steering is all electronic! i did not have 2000.00 to fix so i had to pick it up. was told steering could go out at any time. after searches, found out this is a very common issue on 2012 to 2014 trucks. it is also a very dnagerous issue. why has this not been recalled? when are these car companies going to learn, stop putting all of the electronic components in a vehicle, they do not last.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 30 mph and making a left turn into the driveway, the power steering assist warning indicator illuminated, the contact stated that the steering wheel became very difficult to steer. the contact called alan jay ford lincoln (located at 3201 us hwy 27 s, sebeing, fl, 33870, (863) 385-0144) and was informed that there was no recall on the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving at an unknown speed and making a left turn, the contact heard a loud noise for about a week. there was an intermittent internal electrical failure and the steering wheel seized. eckenrod ford lincoln (5255 al-157, cullman, al 35058, (800) 944-1389) indicated that the vehicle would need to be diagnosed to determine the cause of the failure. an independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and informed the dealer that two sensors and the steering column needed to be replaced. the dealer stated that the failures were a known issue. the vehicle was to be repaired by the independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was not available. *bf*jb

Electronic power steering locked up while parked

While driving the vehicle on highway and turning left the steering wheel would not return to center. the driver had to manually with effort in order to avoid crossing into opposing lane, return steering to right. took vehicle to local dealer, found fault code c1b00. steering angle sensor failed. ford is probably aware of this problem that appears to be do to overheating in engine compartment. occurrence usually out of warranty. cost $1800.

After making a tight turn in a parking lot "service advancetrack" message came up on display. with message displayed turn signal would not stay on. at 50,000 miles dealer says the steering rack needs to be replaced that it is not a serviceable item.

Service advancetrac warning light illuminates after sharp turns into parking spaces, etc.. turn signal arm has to be held during turns. sometimes problem clears itself.

Hard to turn (left/right), especially at low speeds!

Power steering locks up when driving. it started (03/01/2019) with the advance trac-control light turning on and the steering wheel would become very difficult to turn. now (07/03/2019) the power steering cuts out and locks up all the time. did i mention that it is my steering wheel that is affected by this issue- the device that allows me to maneuver the vehicle and helps to keep the vehicle from getting in an accident and possibly severely injuring or killing myself or someone else? ford knows about this problem (as evident from the many other complaints and testimonies submitted to date) - and i have even taken it to the dealer but to no avail. with so many complaints regarding this issue, i cannot believe that ford has not issued a recall to fix the issue of the """"power steering cutting out""""" which in turn makes the steering wheel very difficult to turn, which in turn makes the vehicle very, very, very difficult to control. this occurs at speeds from 5 mph to 70 mph with no warning and happens in the middle of a left turn, in the middle of a right turn, while driving straight, while driving up a hill, while driving down a hill!!!!! are you kidding me - a company that puts not only the lives of people who purchase their products at risk but all of the general public's lives at risk due to a problem that they are aware of is appalling, at best!!!!! i have read statement after statement after statement on this issue """"power steering cuts out"""" and all i can say is that if ford does not step up and take care of this issue, but continues to turn away from it, then i too shall turn away from ford!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My power steering has failed four times. the first two times, it corrected itself. the third time, my service center found a code that showed a miscommunication between the wheel and steering system, which locked the wheel. it has now happened a third time. it is very dangerous, as it happens while i am driving! it starts when i put it in drive, regardless of where i am. i live and work in nashville, tn.

When you slow down for a curve try to park you can't steer. sometimes it's fine and then it comes back as you drive. this seems to be a problem with a lot of fords of this year make and model. all types of roads while in motion.

Attempted to back out of driveway and turned vehicle to left and heard loud screeching sound from engine compartment. immediately received "service advancetrac" alert, then power steering completely failed, and "power steering failure" displayed on vehicle display. no power steering now and slightest turn of wheel results in loud screeching sound from steering rack. now, when vehicle sits in park with engine running, no power steering is available and the wheels cannot be turned without excessive force.

I was driving my truck in a grocery store parking lot when a power steering assist warning can on an i lost steering. the steering wheel feels lock and thankfully i was not driving at highway speed. i googled this and have seen lots of complaints about the same issue resulting in accidents and loss of life. come on ford...

A year ago, my 2012 f150 xlt 2wd had a power steering failure. it magically started working until a month ago. within two weeks, my power steering failed three times. i started my vehicle, put it into gear, and immediately the power steering failure light came on. the first time, restarting my truck worked. the second time, my normal mechanic ran codes and found there was a miscommunication between the steering wheel and power steering, stating it wasn't zeroed out and therefore locked. they reset it and it worked. the third time, i zeroed the wheel out when i got to work... using all my strength to make turns. i then took it to be diagnosed by a ford dealer service center and they found an "internal failure" of the power steering assembly gear, part #el3z-3504-be. this part has been recalled on many 2008-2014 f150s, but mine isn't on the recall list. i live in nashville, so my driving is a mix of city streets and interstates. i have the diagnosis/estimate paperwork on hand. ford customer service has refused to return my calls.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving approximately 35 mph, the electronic power steering assist became inoperable. the contact performed a diagnostic test using an obd diagnostic tool; however, no fault codes were located. imperial ford (located at 8 uxbridge rd, mendon, ma 01756, (888) 814-8373) was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

My power steering has completely failed, there are not any warning indicators on its just out. it started aroud 12/25/18 it would stick during a turn i would have to use force to straighted the wheel. somedays it would work just fine. as of 1/21/19 its completely out, no power steering what so ever.

When turning vehicle either left or right as sharp turn as possible at a low rate of speed, the check engine light came on, traction control light came on and the turn signals stopped working. the only way to reset turn signals, traction control light and engine check light was to cut truck off, restart then drive backwards about 10 yards and the light went out and turn signals started working, to correct the problem berglund ford service dept said i needed a new steering gear. this was a very expensive fix, $2046.40 and in my research this year truck was having this problem wide spread. i feel there was a design problem as the steering gear is not a part that normally fails on a vehicle,

Theory - vehicle manufacturers can simulate or induce failure of various parts/systems through the computer programming systems that run vehicles causing vehicle owners to make unneeded repairs which creates demand for parts and labor throughout the dealership network. my vehicle has had the following issues arise after the warranty expired. 1) dashboard display of gear vehicle is operating in stopped illuminating 2) windshield wiper stays on lowest intermittent setting after wiper is turned off 3) vehicle makes noise for 5-10 seconds following ignition during which brake pedal is soft. 4) sound of grinding/scraping from the front end 5) power steering is stiff during low speed turns my response to these situations were/are as follows: 1) checked the fuses - everything was good there. several months later the display illuminated and has stayed illuminated ever since. 2) the local dealership recommended replacing a $100 part - i continued to switch the wipers on and off until wipers stayed off. situation still requires on/off switching sometimes but has improved over time 3) the local dealership recommended replacement of a $400 brake vacuum pump. i continued to wait for brake pedal to firm before operating the vehicle and the situation resolved to normal presently. that is to say there is no problem with the brakes. 4) took the vehicle in for service and incurred a $700+ charge for iwes system. dealership said the check valves had stuck open and dirt and dust had entered the system requiring replacement of parts 5) this is the latest issue with the vehicle. it only happens when turning after a stop and doesn't happen every day. i suspect it will resolve itself overtime if my theory as stated at the top is correct.

While driving at highway speeds, electric power steering failed. service advance-trac message displayed, low battery displayed, turn signals won't work, and traction/stability control is disabled. all related to the power steering rack.

Power steering failure. it started with just the "service advance trak" light coming on after making a sharp turn. when this light was on the turn signals would not work. now i have little to no power steering at all times. there seems to be several complaints about this and even a recall for f-150's of this year but it is not on the list.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 35 mph, the front passenger side steering arm separated from the steering box. the front driver's side tire was still in tact; however, the front passenger side tire lost direction due to the detached part. the contact stated that the vehicle swayed from left to right uncontrollably on the roadway. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and then towed to hondru ford of manheim (300 s main st, manheim, pa 17545, (717) 665-3551). the dealer stated that since the mileage exceeded 160,000, they would not diagnose the vehicle nor contact the manufacturer. the vehicle was towed to a repair facility to be inspected and diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

61k miles on truck and when turning at low speeds steering is very difficult. the steering does not return to center unless you assist. the first time it happened it completely startled me as my truck continued to turn. i did a search on my truck and found that this is a common problem with the electronic steering assembly. i contacted my dealer and ford with no help. i was told no recall. i informed the ford customer service rep that there have been several accidents because of this issue to no avail. very disappointed in ford.

After turning steering to full lock, advancetrac warning light comes on, traction contol light comes on, and turn signals will not operate unless the lever is held down. after several start/stop engine cycles, system re-sets until steering is turned full lock again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while turning at a low speed, an abnormal noise could be heard and the steering wheel seized. in addition, the power steering fault warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that excessive effort was needed to safely operate the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then to manistee ford (3471 grant hwy, manistee, mi); however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 101,000. **tr the consumer stated ford was called and truck was fixed. *tr

The power steering stopped providing power assist consistently and it is intermittent. the steering wheel feels sticky and hard to turn. there is no hydraulic system to check fluids on and i believe that there is no serviceable components of this steering system. this vehicle has relativity low mileage (>50k) and driven on paved roads. this was noticed while driving taking a turn and is present on highway and city driving.

August 2018- while driving the vehicle the power steering assist light alert appeared and was unable to steer the vehicle. i pulled over and stopped, shut vehicle off and turned it back on and was able to steer. during the next few weeks, this occurred again at various speeds. at times, the power steering would work and the light would disappear. however, i did not have power steering when i took the vehicle in for repair. i took the truck to the ford dealership - diagnosis code u2011 and u3000. dealership repaired motor inside steering gear. total cost for parts and labor was $2333.29. october 2018 - while driving the vehicle on the highway going 65 mph and exiting i lost power steering - assist alert light appeared. was able to hard break at stop sign, turn off vehicle and turn back on - power steering was working again, november 2018 - the power steering alert light appeared on 3 different times. all going different rates of speed. the most dangerous was highway speeds, exiting highway to turn right at a stop light and lost all power steering. i was able to control vehicle and pull into a parking lot. contacted dealership - they had the truck for 10 days; could not duplicate issue. advised to replace tire. purchased 4 new tires cost over $1000. today, 11/20/2018 less than 24 hours later while driving the vehicle the power steering light appeared again.

While driving at 60 mph on the highway, the electric power steering locked up during a turn. the system locked for less than a second, and then freed up so that i could finish the turn. luckily the steering did not lock up before or after the turn, so that i could complete the turn and get off the highway. after getting off the highway, i stayed on county roads to reduce speed to 30mph and see if the reduced speed helped. after 30 more minutes of driving the steering was completely locking up when driving straight or turning, and screeching very loudly. the "service advance trac" message showed up, followed by "electric power steering fault" message. i had the vehicle towed to the nearest mechanic, where they said the whole electric power steering needs to be replaced, costing around $2000. i have not gotten the work done yet and hope that there is a recall with the amount of complaints for this same issue. if the steering were to lock up any sooner than it had, there could have been major injury or death.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while attempting to reverse the vehicle with a trailer hitched to the rear of it, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the power steering warning indicator illuminated as the failure occurred. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 190,000. **tr consumer stated: i started vehicle back up light on dash came on power steering was loose. i parked the truck, this was saturday morning, no service department was open. sunday evening, i started vehicle up, power steering was working. updated 10/19/18*jb

Pulling out of my drive way the power steering went outwithout any warning. light came on saying service advance trac. i live on a country road speed limit is 55 mph. i was lucky to get my truck back into my lane before a car coming headed on was upon me. i am lucky i did not have a head crash. had yruck serviced a cost of $2034.64 to fix the truck only has 40,614 miles on the it. i can not understand why so much. plus the dealership has does other vehicles with the same problem. they only warranty this fix for two years. why is this not a recall with so many vehicles with this advance trac.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 70 mph with the cruise control engaged, the steering wheel seized and the electronic power steering failure warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to joe machens ford lincoln (1911 west worley street, columbia, mo 65203) to be diagnosed and repaired. the manufacturer was notified via chat and informed the contact to notify nhtsa of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

My truck lost power steering while turning with trailer on farm road. the steering was very hard, so that, i almost collided with bee hives. at first, the electric power steering screeched, the then i got a service message " service advance trac" . finally, i got a message of " power steering fault". i suspect the steering rack assembly (epas).

Yesterday as i was making a turn through a busy intersection, my steering wheel suddenly locked up and the alert "service advancetrac" popped up on my dash. i was unable to complete the turn, and a car going nearly 55 mph swerved around me and missed t-boning me by a few feet. initially, i was just concerned. but after going to the mechanic and finding that my steering control module is faulty (this vehicle only has 62,000 miles on it), and this is a well-known issue in other ford vehicles and in the f150 as well, i became furious that ford has not issued a recall when i could have been killed yesterday. if ford does not make this right, i will never purchase another ford vehicle, will encourage all my friends/family to never purchase a ford vehicle, and will use my considerable business and personal network to ensure that they all know that ford knows about a very significant issue and is refusing to issue a recall for an issue that could lead to the death of its customers. i called the minions at the 1-800 number and they told me they could not help me and that ford had not issued a recall for this issue and i was on my own. i'll pay the $1500 + labor now. but i'll be back with my attorney if this issue is not addressed to my satisfaction.

While traveling the electronic power steering assist failed rendering the truck nearly impossible to control. dealer (rodeo ford) replaced entire steering rack and within 500 miles it failed again. this time whilst towing a 5600 pound trailer down a 6% grade in arizona. nearly killed my entire family.

The vehicles steering has made a loud popping noise and now my two front tires are completely out of alignment. both are pointing outwards. the vehicle will not steer correctly and the steering wheel has turned off of center. i can not drive the vehicle straight going down the road. i was backing out of my driveway when the vehicle made a horrific noise and started all this wacky driving.
