After completing a required recall, my truck speedometer and odometer 'zero'd' out while in motion. this occurred multiple times, most recently while on the freeway. when it occurred on the freeway, the back wheels felt like they locked up. i pulled to the side of the road to check for flat tires, as that was my first thought. all tires check out ok. i turned the vehicle off and turned it back on. this caused the speedometer and odometer to return to normal functionality. i returned the vehicle to the dealership as i thought that the new update may not have been successful. the dealership advised that the software update process was successful and could not be redone. i read a couple of internet blogs of where other owners had the same type of issue. if the update caused other faulty parts to be exposed, i understand. however, the vehicle should not lock its tires while in motion, especially at freeway speeds as this is a serious safety issue. the picture that is attached is when the issue first occurred. the same indicators occurred the second time, when i was driving on the freeway.

On wednesday, march 13, 2019, i was traveling in my 2011 ford f150 vin#(xxxx) on the highway. during this time, i was traveling at approximately 65-70mph. about 1 minute after getting onto the highway, i felt a large knock in the transmission, and subsequently the vehicle downshifted from 6th gear into 1st gear, on its own, without warning! this action caused the rear tires to lock up, and the truck temporarily skid out of control, and drop speed to approximately 35-40 mph in the middle lane on the highway. thankfully, i was able to retain control of the vehicle, and there was not anyone near me, and i was able to avoid a serious crash. also, thankfully, i was on my way to work, and i luckily did not have my 5-year-old or 2-year-old in the vehicle with me. i immediately pulled to the side of the road, to compose myself, and re-evaluate the situation at hand. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Truck was recalled for "drivability issue in sudden downshift". had atw inspection and recall fix 3/12/2019. as driving back from dealership the transmission down shifted i returned to the dealer and was told i needed a complete transmission rebuild cost $3000!

My 2011 f-150 would not go into reverse and it would not show up in the in the indicator. it required the replacement of the molded lead frame in the transmission to correct the transmission range sensor issue. there was a recall issued by ford (12c23) that covered the same issue for 2011 - 2013 model year f-150 with 6r80 transmission. my f-150 was not in the manufacture date range, but it has all the issues that were in the 12c23 recall. this was brought to fords attention, but they indicated that it is not part of this recall, even though it is the same exact issue. i have attached the recall notice for reference. this recall should be extended to cover all 2011 f-150 that have this exact same issue as indicated in the recall. it also should be noted that they did issue a recall 19n01 for the mold lead frame for this f-150, but refuse to cover the repair due to the fact that the specific codes for this recall were not present.

While driving, sometimes down the highway at 60 miles an hour plus the truck will without warning downshift to first gear. this has caused significant control problems when the weather is bad as roads are slick. we also loose our speedometer. we have taken our truck into ford and they twice reprogrammed the truck. the first time failed right away the second time they said it was good and while driving home with our kids in the car it once again downshifted without warning on the highway at 60 miles an hour. we now have serious concerns about having our family in the truck for fear of loss of control without warning. this started happening when we first purchased our truck in july of 2018 at 148,000 miles it now has 162,000 and is happening more frequently.

2011 f150 with recalled transmission 6r80 has problems described in recall but my vin is not reporting in recall. the recall number in question is ford recall #16s19, nhtsa campaign # 16v248000. my transmission is downshifting to first at any speed causing tires to lock and skid as well as loose power completely while driving. took truck to ted britt ford this morning and they concur with the issue but again vin is not in recall. i feel this should be covered by recall. truck is under 10 years old and 115k miles.

My truck has the 6r80 transmission and exhibits a transmission engagement in 5th gear when starting. i get a wrench indicator and my speedometer read zero and the odometer displays dashes while driving. after turning the ignition on and off a couple of times the issue is corrected.

On the morning of january 17th 2019 i was traveling eastbound on tx-114 between n kimball ave and e soutlake blvd traveling at the posted speed limit when my 2011 f150 downshifted into 1st gear causing the rear wheels to lock up and the rear end started to drift to the left. i regained control of the vehicle and pulled over to the right shoulder. i exited the highway and kept the speed below 30mph and drove directly to the grapevine ford dealership. i believe this is related to ford recall 16s19, nhtsa campaign # 16v248000. a few years ago the transmission was shifting hard and the lead frame was replaced at 5 star ford in lewisville, tx.

Truck transmission down shifts to a very low gear jerking the truck and losing control. i have had it into the local ford dealer four times since 2011. still downshifting suddenly. ford just recalled in recall # 19507 february 2019 certain trucks for recall for the downshifting. my vin# was excluded. ford assigned case# cas-17164754-n-t2c3 and told me to pay for the parts myself and keep the receipt in case ford recalls my vin#. ford has excluded millions from this recall that are dangerous to operate with this defect. i tow a travel trailer with my grandchildren so you can understand my fear of the downshift at highway speeds. ford needs to be held responsible as they have known about this issue since 2011 and have chosen a half baked response to the problem.

About 30 mph, let off accelerator and a loud clunk and jerk happens. seems to happen more with a small decline

Driving on i95 traveling at 81 mph, truck suddenly downshifted hard to around 30 mph almost causing me to be rear ended by a semi. wrench light came on, speedometer went to 0 and odometer reading went to all dashes. was able to get to side of interstate. was told there is an extended warranty on this problem established in 2016 with my year truck but was told because my truck was made in march of 2011 in kansas it would not be covered. if it was made in detroit in march of 2011 it would be covered. outrageous. after research, i find this is still happening on this model and year of ford f150. accidents have occurred and are still occurring but i can get no response from ford as to why this is not being fixed under this extended warranty. i want someone to know before a death occurs if one has not occurred to date.

Vehicle downshifts violently in motion, freeway speed you reduce acceleration and gear shifts from 6 to 4; street speed from 3 or 4 to 1. similarities to recall notice 16v248000

I was driving down the road at 50mph when my transmission suddenly powered down and went to 1st gear. after doing reasearch the issue is lead frame to the transmission.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the transmission slipped and the vehicle jerked so hard that the contact almost struck the windshield. shortly afterwards, the gear shifted back into drive on its own. in addition, the speedometer malfunctioned and none of the gauges functioned on the instrument panel. the vehicle started to drive normally hours after the failure, but the service warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to shaker's family ford lincoln (831 straits turnpike, watertown, ct 06795, (860) 945-4900) where the dealer denied that the vehicle malfunctioned and that there was a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired, but another appointment was made for next week. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 97,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the transmission automatically downshifted. the first, second, and sixth gears were skipped. the vehicle was taken to deacon jones ford-lincoln (3301 mclain st, goldsboro, nc 27534) where they informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 145,180.

After experiencing my f150 doing periodic downshifts to 1st gear while driving on several occasions last fall, i started trying to research the problem. i found that there was a recall to fix a faulty output shaft speed sensor. but only for trucks made in dearborn or kansas city. not for mine. ultimately after deciding to fix this issue i learned that my transmission was now bad as a result of the several downshifts while at highway speeds, most likely...and the damage resulting from going from 6th to 1st gear sudden like. the fix...that just this month has been included in a new recall (#19s07)...would have been paid for if the recall was issued earlier and maybe i would be $7,000 better off today. ( i paid for a new tranny a few months ago. ). i just got off the phone with ford but got no sympathy or understanding....just a lady who re-recited what my recall letter stated. that if you are part of this recall, take your truck to a ford dealer after march 4th and they will reprogram the faulty part. but if you have already been victimized..you are out of luck. seems kind of unfair that they will only step up if you haven't yet had a problem. economics, for sure. i'm out over $7,000 because of a problem that they admit to. and their representatives who say they are authorized to take care of things, won't so much as give me another person or department to discuss this with. send a letter, she said... dang right i will. and a copy of my repair bill! thanks a lot, ford.

As i drive my f-150 as a daily driver and everyday it is the same problem. but as it snowed the other day i proceeded to the grocery store on a state highway and i was traveling at about 35mph with a 50 mph posted speed limit and as it downshifted unexpectedly i lost control and the vehicle spun around and ended up facing the wrong way on the road. thankfully there was no other vehicles involved

Power train coming on all time / brake problems/ light coming on all times

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving various speeds above 30 mph, the transmission independently downshifted into first gear. as a result, the vehicle abruptly decelerated. the cause of the failure was not determined. candy ford (403 lansing st, charlotte, mi) and the manufacturer were notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 68,000.

While vehicle is in motion transmission goes into fifth gear and speedometer goes to 0.also vehicle sometimes will not shift out of first gear upon accelerating.

Started vehicle in garage, depressed brake, moved shift selector to reverse position and "r" indicator didn't light, vehicle wouldn't move in reverse. would move forward & "d" indicator lit. turn vehicle off, restarted, moved shift lever to "r" indicator and it lit and vehicle would move. this happened 3 times between 12/21/2018 & 12/25/2018. had friend try shifting while i watched rear backup lights. they lit when "r" would light, and wouldn't light when "r" wouldn't light. also on 25th, all shifter positions wouldn't light when returning home. very scary!

There was a recall / extension of factory warranty for the 2011 f150 related to failings of the output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame. my truck has been diagnosed with failings of the speed sensor and the lead frame, and reportedly needs a new lead frame. the transmission controls have forced a downshift into first gear, causing a dangerous situation. the unit then goes into limp mode. this is a known problem by ford has happened to my unit several times. it has led to the recall of certain units: f150's built in the kansas city plant between 8/19/2011 thru 3/9/2012-mine was built in this plant on 10/2011 and should fall under this extended warranty / recall, but i have been told my unit is not included in this recall, which is puzzling.

While driving my speedometer goes to dashes and truck fails to shift. i have to pull over and shut the truck off to try and reset it. it takes several times of doing this to reset the truck.

While driving on the highway approximately moving at the speed of 60 mph the transmission automatically downshifted into 1st or 2nd gear. causing my back tires to lock up. this occurred around 7:00 pm after the incident a wrench came up on my control center telling me to service the vehicle. i was able to drop the vehicle off at a ford dealership approximately 5 miles down the road. within that short distance it was still downshifting randomly.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 55 mph, the transmission downshifted into second gear and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the vehicle was taken to sisk family ford (565 oak st, forest city, nc 28043, 828-245-1626), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

Molded lead frame and oss replacement. i was not notified of the molded lead frame recall 16n02. i experienced the electrical issue described in the recall in my driveway. my dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and would only drive in first gear. i drove to a mechanic that was closer than the ford dealer and was off of back roads so i could drive in first gear. i paid for the repair. i recently received a recall notice 19s07 which is for programming the oss sensor. i asked to be reimbursed for my repair and i was told no by crescent ford & trucks. they said 19s07 is for programming only. i believe ford should reimburse me for the lead frame, connector, automatic transmission fluid, and the speed sensor.

Sudden and random downshifting. while in drive, the transmission will suddenly downshift into a lower gear, completely at random. this causes a major lurch and "jump" in the transmission and speed decreases greatly. happens at high and low speeds. does not seem to be induced by "hard" driving or gentle driving. cannot force it to occur. have not taken it into dealer to be checked as no codes (engine light or gear) appears. this is a known recall issue for other f150's but my truck isn't covered, but is definitely having the same issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact was unable to immediately shift into reverse. it took approximately five seconds for the vehicle to respond. the contact had to depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle from moving on its own. the contact stated that the failure occurred approximately fifteen times in two weeks. the vehicle was taken to jenkins & wynne ford, honda, lincoln (2655 trenton rd, clarksville, tn 37040) where it was diagnosed that the transmission range sensor failed and needed replacement. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v190000 (power train, exterior lighting). the manufacturer provided case number: cas-16590270. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
