When i was headed to drop my daughter off i was driving down a street that has speed bumps which i usually don't have any problems. until this morning (08/08/2019) when my power steering kicked off and i had to physically turn my wheel. i saw the their was a recall for 2009 ford escapes and i was wondering if mine was one of them.

When your driving ass "go power" is lost and a wrench light illuminates in the lower left corrner. it does not matter where im driving but it just decides to do it when it wants to. has happened 3 times in the past month or so its happend when i was going 10mphs and 30 mphs and about 45mph...super super scary luckly no one was behind me all times... last time this happend was on 7/23/2019

On july 9, 2019 i was exiting the expressway and my vehicle began stalling at which time the odometer went down from 50 down to 0 immediately causing me to pull over to the side. thank god i was already in the processing of exiting. no warning lights on the dashboard at all. i turned the car off, and then turned it back on. i took my car to firestone who was unable to perform a diagnostic at the time, and suggested that i bring it back. this is very dangerous and of great concern. this vehicle has only 42,460 miles or so on it, and i don't feel that i should be encountering this problem. i have had it since 2010 and at the time purchased at 18,000 miles or so. i drive my vehicle locally only. i have read that this a problem with ford escapes, and i believe that this issue should be listed as a recall. please help!

While driving on streets and highway, engine will stall out, complete shutoff, with no warning signs or lights. the computer is not storing any codes indicating faults. after a stall, can put the car back in park or neutral and restart. most commonly occurs when transitioning from braking to acceleration.

I noticed the transmission started to slip and i added fluid once. then it happened again and i noticed transmission fluid inside the engine bay like it has been spraying. i done some research and found this vehicle to have a transmission cooler leak and others had it fixed under recall for 2008. this is a issue with this model vehicle.

The wrench light on the dash comes on and the car will suddenly stall while i am driving it. it just shuts down without warning--no engine problems apparent, like sputtering or any other warning sign. it is scary, as i have almost been rear-ended twice. i put it in neutral and start it, and it starts again without a problem, but it is very dangerous. i have not had the issue resolved by a mechanic.

Happened three times in 20 minutes on 08/16/2018: vehicle was in motion each time, suddenly and without warning engine stopped, all warning lights lit up on dashboard and lost complete control of steering, speed control. wheels locked up and almost caused multiple accidents. had to pull over and turn on vehicle again.

2009 ford escape, 3.0l xlt. vehicle engine power lost and the vehicle went into limp mode while driving on the highway, on sept 7, 2018. a red wrench light flashed on the dash during the event. was able to avoid traffic, park on the shoulder, restart the vehicle, and drive at normal speed to the nearest exit. this same power loss has occurred at normal driving speed two more times after the highway event. there are no engine codes found after diagnostic check by local auto repair shop. the vehicle is no longer being driven on highways. this escape was diagnosed by ford dealer in 2017 for customer satisfaction program 13n03 regarding throttle body failures. the dealership found no issues with the throttle body at that time.

Vehicle stalls/shuts off randomly while in motion driving. this has happened several times while on side streets and on the highway. recently happened twice within 30 minutes. extremely dangerous.

Engine turns off when driving. this happens at different speeds in varying conditions; ie. driving slow, driving fast, on the highway on side streets.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while the vehicle was operated at low speeds, it lost power without warning. bill currie ford (5815 n dale mabry hwy, tampa, fl) was called, but did not assist because the vin was not included in a recall. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they had no involvement in recalls. the contact was transferred to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 135,000. *tt *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while driving at an unknown speed, the steering wheel shook and became extremely difficult to maneuver. while idling, the vehicle shook, "jumped", and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact then stated that the vehicle was initially taken to phil long ford at chapel hills at (719) 387-1099 located at 1565 auto mall loop, colorado springs, co 80920 as an attempt to trade the vehicle however, the contact stated that she inquired about diagnosing the vehicle and the dealer refused. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls associated with the vin. the failure mileage was 161,444.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while driving 65 mph, an alarm sounded and the steering wheel seized. the contact pulled the vehicle over to a parking lot to attempt to restart the ignition, but the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the failure occurred multiple times. the vehicle was towed to asheville ford lincoln (611 brevard rd, asheville, nc 28806) where the power steering module was replaced. the manufacturer was also contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 117,500.

I have 80,000 miles on this vehicle. my check engine came on. i have hesitation when giving it gas. i have a vibration when car is running and in drive i took to a ford dealership, they check for the issued ans it came up with a codes, p0012, p0022, p0341, p0346 related to 11-12-5. the dealer stated they would need to tear down the engine to inspect, not repair, but inspect. estimated cost would be $1500. my car only have 80000, should this be under a warranty.ford need to stand behind their product and repair my car. i'm confused why would my car have this issue when it only have 80000 miles and not 10 years old.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle lost power and the service engine and wrench warning indicators illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to northside ford lincoln dealer (located at 1312 north keller dr, effingham, il 62401, phone number: (217) 342-3929) where it was diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact also stated that the vehicle was previously serviced at northside ford lincoln dealer for the same failure; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was called and informed the contact that nothing could be done. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while operating the vehicle, the service engine sensor indicator illuminated and, while driving, the speed would suddenly decelerate. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the local dealer (al piemonte ford located in milrose park, illinois) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 40,200.

Was accelerating after coasting to slow down for a turn on city streets. engine stalled out and service, oil, and battery lights all illuminated on the panel. vehicle lost all power and had to coast to a stop. put it in park, turned off and restarted with no issue. this is the 5th time this has happened in the last 18 months, all in simliar scenarios where accelerating after coasting.

Was driving on i80 in traffic, with the traffic speeds were roughly 35 mph. after a short period in traffic, when i went to accelerate i noted that the engine had died. this left me unable to accelerate or do anything other than break or cruise in a very busy interstate. i then stopped the car, put it in park, cycled the key, the engine fired and the vehicle was able to complete the 10 mile drive home. this is a very dangerous scenario. and honestly it probably wouldn't be a big deal but this has happened on this vehicle in the past and is a known issue on ford's in general. this happened with the same vehicle roughly 10 times in 2013. the engine would unexpectedly turn off, sometimes on the interstate, sometimes in my work parking lot, sometimes on a residential street. highly unpredictable in terms of the speed or driving conditions. at the time, ford replaced the electronic throttle body and eventually re-imbursed me once the extended warranty came out. the issue had not occurred since then til today. i suspect the throttle body is at fault again, with a 95% confidence. will be taking it to the shop to confirm. this failure mode is a known issue and has been recalled on 2005-2009 mariners and escapes. the failure mode of losing power on a congested trafficway is highly dangerous and extremely forseeable both for nhtsa and ford. this issue should be recalled, not addressed via an extended warranty.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while driving 70 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and shifted the gear into park. once restarted, the vehicle returned to normal. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-678-7986 and stated that the vehicle needed to be taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the failure mileage was 100,000.

There has been multiple issues with this ford escape xlt. the abs light continues to come on. the wheel of the car locks when you try too turn when driving wheel. it is very dangerous. the sensors even though we replaced them keep blowing which causing the truck to decline in speed while driving in traffic. we had to turn it onto to the grass to avoid accidents. constant engine issues after we had it fixed multiple times. we are in a financial negative because of this truck. the tire sensors keep going also. these issues are happening after we have gotten this truck fixed multiple times and more dangerously while we are driving it. the brakes, steering wheel, transmission an the engine are all faulty. we have put thousands of dollars into the this vehicle. this is our transportation to work and we are behind with the notes. even when the vehicle is stationary there is a grinding, almost like the wheels want to fall off. we need this fixed we need help!!!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while driving approximately 70 mph on a highway, the vehicle drastically decelerated to below 40 mph. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle continued to lose power. the contact coasted off the road and restarted the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 102,000.

This happens in all conditions. engine will lose power and start stuttering like it is missing. exhaust will stink and darken enough so that it is visible. accelerator will not work as normal. vehicle will eventually stall as service light comes on. fuel pump replaced twice in 2 days. mechanics find no codes stored. throttle body replaced under ford customer service program. it reoccurred the next day. this needs to be recalled and fixed. the vehicle will slow and stall suddenly and is a safety issue.

While driving around 40 miles per hour on our way to dinner, the car lost all power. we pulled to the side of the road because pressing the gas pedal had no effect whatsoever (steering and the brakes worked). we turned the car off, waited a minute, then turned the car back on. it restarted with some difficulty, but then we were able to resume driving. while driving at speeds of 30-40 miles per hour, the same event happened 3 more times on the way to dinner. the same issue occurred 2 more times as we drove home from dinner. this was the first day we experienced a problem, but the problem was severe and we were driving during rush hour traffic. i considered the car extremely unsafe to drive and took it in for service the next day. ford confirmed the throttle body needed replacing.

My 2009 ford escape is stalling when i come to a stop. it is happening regularly and becoming a considerable safety issue.

Stopped at a stop light at a highway intersection with an interstate off ramp on july 26, 2016. noticed that the engine had stopped/shutoff on its own. put the transmission in park and it restarted as normal and continued on with no further problem. there was no engine light or clue as to what happened. seems to be related to other complaints on internet re throttle body or cam or crankshaft position sensors.

Please see this clip on youtube that explains our issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucusqj3-evk my vehicle, without warning will lose power and the wrench light appears. same thing, mechanic has no clue. why can't ford figure this out. it's dangerous. my wife has stalled several times in traffic. what can be done? thank you! *tr

On several occasions, either while stopped or during acceleration after a stop the engine stalls. sometimes on city streets and twice on a freeway onramp waiting for the metering light. the dealer has said on numerous occasions that they can't "reproduce" the problem so there is nothing they can do.

Takata recall while driving on the highway at 60 mph, my 09 ford escape completely slowed down on me. i pushed on the gas to make the car speed back up but was unable to. i went from 60 to 30 mph in a very short amount of time. i was luckily coming up to a speed zone of 45 mph, but i coasted until i was able to turn off the highway. i came to a complete stop and my rpm continued going up and down. i eventually turned off the vehicle and let it sit for a minute. i then turned it back on and drove under 45 mph the rest of the way home. it was very scary as i had my two children in the car.

Car lost power and was only able to chug home. not able to drive up hill. car was driving at about 40 mph when suddenly lost throttle response a check of engine code shows throtle closed

Just driving normally and car stalls out--supposedly a failed throttle body.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. after restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 69,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while driving, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering sensor and steering column had to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the onboard diagnostic warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle experienced a loss of power. the dealer stated that the mass air index was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. in addition, the maintenance warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle experienced a loss of power. the vehicle was repaired, but the abs, low tire pressure, traction control, and parking warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired again. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 169,000. updated 10/18/16*lj *tr

Vehicle stalled and went into "limp-home" mode after accelerating from a stopped condition.("limp-home" mode is a mode programmed by ford engineers to only allow the vehicle to move forward under limited power, generally only 1-2 mph.) i later found out that this was due to a faulty electronic throttle body. the vehicle then stalled an additional two times about two weeks apart from the first incident. i was able to use my own obd ii code scanner to detect the error code p2111. i found out that this component was determined to be faulty and ford motor corporation issued an extended warranty coverage for this component. however, ford will only replace this part if they are able to document the error code themselves on their code scanner. the problem lies in the design of this vehicle in that it won't store this particular code. when the vehicle stalls, the only course of action is to turn off the ignition and turn it back on in hopes of resetting the trhottle body. this works but it cancels the error code. the driver is forced to employ this technique to continue their travel or faced with the option of waiting for ford to come and scan for the code themselves. if this happens after normal work hours, this of course is not an option. the fact that this error code erases itself in an attempt to get the vehicle moving again is a catch 22 situation and one that ford should correct. i was forced to purchase my own replacement throttle body since ford would not replace it.

Lost power while driving in the middle lane on rt. 17 south near ramsey nj. engine was still on but rpm`s was very erratic. wrench warning light came on the check engine light came on. issues with electronic throttle noted on web sites for ford escape models. updated 10/01/15*lj

I was driving to work and going around a winding part of the road. i was coasting due to the multiple consecutive turns when my car shut off while going approximately 20 mph. luckily traffic was light and i was able to shift into neutral and restart my car while coasting. since this event it has happened approximately 30 times, always around low or idle speeds and more often after running longer. i purchased this car second hand in march of 2015. i have never had such a frustrating problem or unsafe feeling with or while driving a vehicle.

Was accelerating from a stop and the engine stalled. this is the second time this has happened in the last 2 months. throttle body had been replaced a couple of years ago, so concerned this is a different issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at low speed, the engine separated from the cradle causing damage to the front axle. the vehicle was taken to the local mechanic for inspection, which located the engine bolts failed due to defective material. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 71,000.

The check engine light came on; manual did not have cautionary information. further upon checking, there was a technical service bulletin(tsb) issued by ford #-09-13-83. faulty premature failing parts on multiple ford models including ford escape, mercury mariner, ford fusion and mercury milan. what occurs is variable cam timing solenoids (2) fail causing the service engine light to go on. this could result in catastrophic engine failure as these parts control the timing of the motor. ford acknowledges that there is a problem but is not issuing a re-call nor giving any compensation to customers requiring this repair. based on discussions with various dealer maintenance departments and forum on the inter-net, this is a much more wide spread issue that ford is willing to acknowledge. *tr

I was driving home on a 6 lane highway yesterday after work. posted speed limit 65 mph. my cruise control was set at 65, i was in a center lane when my vehicle made a loud clunk and the cruise control cut off and i started losing power to the car.the engine was on but pushing the gas pedal did nothing. i was trying to get out of traffic to the side of the highway with cars speeding and swerving all around me. i was petrified. i called the dealer and the car was taken for service today. they told me it was the throttle body and motor and it was on an extended warranty so i did not have to pay for it. the receipt clearly states this is recall notice 13n03. i have now read about this online and you guys are letting ford call this a "customer service satisfaction program". well, you should know that someone is going to be killed. there is no excuse for not notifying customers of a default with a vehicle that endangers people. i never received a recall letter and i could of died yesterday. *tr

Brake at a light or stop sign at least 3 times when 2009 ford escape xlt wanted to accelerate. *tr

My car will surge forward when i accelerate after a stop. *tr

Vehicles feels like its going to stall then accelerates. it has been recalibrated before but, two months later we are having the same problem. there is also a leak on the left side of the vehicle looks to be transmission oil. also, we can no longer open the tail gate. *tr

I was driving down the road at 45mph and went to accelerate and when i pressed the gas- the engine felt like it was off- i still had electrical power. i was not able to give the car any gas at all. i coasted until i could pull off the road and when i stopped- the car was idling very rough. the "throttle control/ powertrain" light had come on. i turned off the car and sat for about 5 minutes. when i turned it back on, it idled rough for about 3-4 seconds and the light was still on. then it smoothed out and the light went off and i was able to drive it back to my house (about 1 mile). *tr

After beginning acceleration from a stop light, my vehicle began to sputter and stalled out even though it was moving. i had to put it in park, turn the ignition off, and then turn it on in the middle of traffic. the gas tank was 3/4 full and the battery is only a year old. *tr

Slowing to stop at stop light in line of traffic on 10/6/2014, light turned green, traffic moving, attempted to accelerate, found car unable to do so, looked at dash, some lights were on (remember battery light, check engine light and possible oil light), but as i was in traffic, i was in a bit of a panic, i put car in park and turned key. car started up and was able to run normally. on 10/10/14 in traffic driving at 25 miles an hour slowing to adjust to traffic, as accelerator is pressed to maintain this speed and keep up with traffic, car does not accelerate as gas is pressed, look down at dash, lights are on, remember battery light, check engine light, another one, possible oil, i was able to steer car off road into parking lot. stopped car, put in park restarted and again was able to run normally. **this same thing happened about a year ago, was slowly driving into the driveway at work, and the car just wouldn't go.... i stopped, put it in park and restarted it, and have not had this problem again until now. at that time, i had the battery checked and battery was fine. as i do not have the date or mileage i can not report it in boxes above but feel it is noteworthy. *tr

September 10 2014, vehicle was serviced at henry curtis ford in petaluma california for recall 14s05. prior to this recall, we had no problems with our vehicle. october 3 2014, vehicle stalled at 65 mph driving on highway. my wife was driving up hill on the highway in the far right lane and was able to pull off the highway to the shoulder. vehicle towed to repair shop, unable to find any error codes. vehicle towed to henry curtis ford dealership in petaluma california where the vehicle was purchased new in 2008. a $145 diagnostic was done and only one error code was reported by the dealer. code b1239 ( air flow blend door driver circuit failure). vehicle could be driven as there were no check engine lights on at that time. we picked up the vehicle from henry curtis ford, and drove home. october 10 2014. rpm's shifting up and down while driving on the highway at 65mph. had vehicle towed to repair shop in san francisco. serviced and replaced parts for b1239 error. mechanic test drove vehicle and now another error code displays code p2112. p2112 ford - throttle actuator control system error. the mechanic is replacing the throttle body and reprogramming the pcm. i called the ford dealership and was told my vin is not covered under any recalls for p2112. when i asked about consumer satisfaction program 13n03, i was told my vin is not included. we had no problems with the vehicle prior to bringing it in for the recall 14s05. now after that service we are having several problems and i have read that other vehicle owners are also having the same p2112 error. ford should include our vehicle in this problem and see if the other two incidents we have are related some how. everyone i spoke to at ford did not want to help, but continue to charge me more diagnostic charges and repair. thankfully we have an honest mechanic that is helping us out. *tr
