Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2009 Ford Escape

We had seen some issues with power when accelerating, but was minor until may 30th, 2013. we were driving in stop and go traffic and when i accelerated the engine "bogged down" and didn't accelerate. the car wouldn't move forward. we had just filled up and originally believed it was bad gas. it happened about 4 more times as we got home (engine light was on and little wrench icon shows up on bottom left of dash when the problem occurs). it did this about 5 more times on our drive home. i took it to the local ford dealer which informed me that the throttle body was bad and needed replaced. i then googled: throttle 2009. the first thing that appeared was the ford escape and the articles described what i was dealing with too. from what i can tell today, ford is releasing a (new engineered designed) throttle body that should be available june 6th and i have to wait for so that i don't get another bad part. i find it ridiculous that they are basically admitting to producing a defective part, but i have to pay $400 to fix my car...while waiting a week for the new part to come in. *tr

The vehicle suddenly lost power, wrench icon and check engine light came on. car lost all mobility and use of gas peddle. luckily was on a street and not a highway. after turning the car on and off the car appeared to be working normally. several minutes later the condition repeated itself, and then once again several minutes later after turning the car off and on again. took car to get error code and returned a p2112 error code referencing the throttle body. this is an extremely dangerous defect, and could easily have caused a serious wreck if at high speed. or intersection. car is currently at the dealer. *tr

I drive a 2009 ford escape automatic with a v6 engine. on sunday, may 26, 2013 at approximately 1:00 am, i was driving at 70 mph on interstate 10 west. suddenly, i heard a single click sound. the wrench was illuminated on my dash board and the accelerator pedal stopped working. no matter what i did, nothing happened. i was terrified that i would be rear ended by the cars behind me for slowing down suddenly, so i put on my hazard lights and moved to the interstate median. i turned my truck off for a few minutes and then restarted it. i was able to proceed home with no further issue. this whole incident came with absolutely no warning. if a light indicating that service was needed, i could have avoided this nightmare. i am now learning that there is a defect with this vehicle. *tr

In may 2013, my escape lost the ability to accelerate in my home neighborhood. i called the local ford dealership, and they said i should shut the car off and restart. i did and it worked fine. i took the car in to be evaluated and ford said they could find nothing that would have caused that issue. then on july 13, 2013, i was driving on the interstate at 65 mph and the vehicle lost all acceleration ability. the vehicle was still running, but would not accelerate. i coasted to the side of the highway. needless to say, this was a very dangerous situation as the car lost total control in the middle of a busy highway. i feel fortunate an accident did not occur. *tr

I was on the interstate, approximately 6:30am, going 70 in a 65 zone. the radio was on, so i heard nothing strange, but suddenly, with no warning, my car lost the power moving it forward. i did not lose control of my 09 escape. the steering remained ok, as did the brakes, but my car suddenly lost power in the engine to keep my car moving forward. as if maybe i had run out of gas - but there was no sputtering and i was not low on gas. i kept pressing the gas pedal thinking maybe there was trash in my gas line, but there was no change in the way my vehicle behaved. i was slowing down fast, but could steer myself to the shoulder of the highway. i turned the engine off, waited a minute or 2, and tried to start again. it took a minute to catch, but it finally did and i drove off. 5 miles down the highway, it did it again. again, i struggled to the shoulder in heavy traffic, turned the engine off and waited. i was 50 miles from home in a rather remote area and i was scared. again, i started my escape - again it took a minute, but it did start and i made it all the way home without another problem. i drove directly to my local ford dealership and my car his been there 36 days. i call every other week to check on the status of the part. they never have any news of the part coming. they have given me an excellent loaner car to drive, but this is not right. they tell me 1000's of people had the same part go bad across the us. we're all waiting. just this morning, they say they now have a shipping number for the part we all need. they tell me 7 of us are waiting for the same part here in my small town. they hope the part will be here today or tomorrow. my local ford estimates the repair cost to be $450. surely this should be a recall item. *tr

In september of 2012, i had a problem with the ability to accelerate completely gone when i was going 40 mph in a crowded intersection. the wrench light came on. i got into a rite aid parking lot and called the dealership (my vehicle was still under warranty). they told me to try to restart it and see if the wrench light turned off. it did not and i could not restart the car, so i had it towed in. they told me the battery had died and once it was replaced they couldn't recreate the throttle issue so they couldn't fix that per my warranty. then 3 weeks ago, i got off the expressway. and about 10 minutes later the car did the same thing. it was a very dangerous situation because there are no places to pull off this particular road and the speed limit is high. i got half in and half out of the lane and restarted it. i was able to get back home and i called the dealership the next day. they told me it was the throttle body and apparently are willing to fix it without the wrench light now because i am no longer under warranty (65000); however the part is on national back order. this same "national backorder problem" occurred two years ago when my transmission in the same car quit working and i was in a rental car for 7 weeks! the problem has recurred 3 times now, and they have cleaned the throttle body, but still no signs of a part. this is a very dangerous problem and i think ford needs to be held accountable for the inability to stand behind their products. *tr

While driving on a busy freeway in houston my car jerked, the wrench light lit up, then would no longer accelerate. i was able to get over the shoulder of the freeway, but the car would not move after that. it stayed on, but was bouncing up and down. i had to have my car towed off the freeway. once towed, we turned the car off and back on and it ran fine. i took it to a local mechanic the next day and was told everything looked fine, i drove it the following day. on the freeway, it happened again. i immediately took it to the ford dealership, where i was told the throttle body needs to be replaced, but this part is on national back order with no delivery date in sight. ford has been giving me the run around since last week regarding the part and rental assistance. my husband and i were advised by a ford service manager that the car is still "drivable," however, the problem will happen again. he told us when it does, to simply turn the car off and back on and it should run fine for a short time. i expressed serious concern regarding this advice as houston streets and highways are extremely busy. to date, i have received no assistance and no more information on when this part will be available. *tr

Approximately one month ago, while slowing to make a right-hand turn, the vehicle seemed to lose all power; no acceleration, etc. i managed to get on the side of the road, put the vehicle in park, and turned the engine off. when i restarted the engine, everything seemed fine. about 2 weeks later when pulling out onto a main highway, the same thing happened, except this time the "wrench" light came on, and the vehicle started lurching and shaking extremely hard. again, i got to the side of the road (fortunately no volume of traffic), put vehicle in park, turned engine off, and restarted - wrench light gone and all seemed ok. two days ago, same thing happened 4 times within a two mile trip, again fortunately no traffic volume. i had the vehicle towed to the local dealership, and no surprise it was the throttle body, which was replaced at my expense. i see this problem is widespread, and potentially very dangerous. ford should be required to issue a recall before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. *tr

Truck failed to accelerate from a red light, with pedal completely engaged. had continued loss power/thrust when i push the gas. this happens so often now, i am not comfortable driving in heavy traffic as i never know if i'll be able to accelerate. sunday after finally getting home, i was unable to get it to stay cranked when i depress the gas pedal to reverse. this loss of power was exuberated by having the a/c running. first the timing cover leaks at 22, 761, then a pulley falls off the engine at 40,149 spraying oil all over my interior via the a/c. after the pulley was replaced the car would idle high and then started jerking as if it wanted to stall, took to ford dealership and was told there were no codes, finally had the tech drive with me and he felt the jerking. after three visits for this, in november 2012 at 50,000 i was am told the coil pack needs to be replaced, now at 55, 063 miles i am told it is the throttle body that needs to be replaced? i think i was sold a lemon and in the state of florida that's illegal. what if i am rear ended due to the horrible craftsmanship of your product?

While driving the vehicle there is frequent surging and stalling with eventual result in a nonresponsive gas pedal. the check wrench service light and the engine light were illuminated and the vehicle would become responsive again if the engine was turned off then back on. after restarting the vehicle would soon begin to surge and stall again. *tr

I purchased a 2009 ford escape from suncoast chrysler jeep dodge on 5/7/13. my salesman [xxx]took me on test drive in the vehicle, which had 79818 miles on it. right away, the vehicle began to putt-putt, and act like it doesn't want to accelerate, yet the rpm shot up. it ended up cutting off on us around the corner from the dealership. rob managed to get it back started and told me he will have service dept check it out while i worked on paperwork with finance guy. from may 7th until the vehicle finally broken down for good on june 27th, the vehicle has continued to have problems, and cut off 5x since my purchase. i called [xxx] and told him that car is still not running well and he came to my job and pick up vehicle for service. he brought it back with a clean bill of health and even said don't worry, it has a warranty. two weeks ago i called and spoke to [xxx], the used vehicle manager and told him that the vehicle had cut off on me at least (4) times and although they gave it a clean bill of health, i am still convinced that something is wrong. he told me to bring vehicle back in. i know that a vehicle should not get up to 4-5rpm's, especially a newer model vehicle, so i decided that i wanted to take the vehicle to a ford dealer or anybody else because i didn't trust them to tell me the truth about what was really wrong with the vehicle. unfortunately, i didn't make the time to get the car checked out and the result is that the vehicle is broke down, incapable of not moving except for a few feet before cutting off. i had the vehicle towed into the dealership on 6/27 i was told by the service dept that the throttle body was defective, and a new throttle body was not available and they are on back order with a month wait and that over 900 of them were being requested at this time and they don't understand why ford has not put a recall on them. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Stopped at light, went to acceclerate to go on green light and had no acceleration. turned vehicle off and it restarted, went immediately to ford. *tr

I had to have the throttle body replaced yesterday. when i would try and accelerate my car would sputter and go into limp mode. the wrench and engine light would go on. the first event was at about 25,000 miles. it occurred again at about 30,000 miles. this time there wan no ignoring it because it was not drivable after i shut it off and had to have it towed to the dealership. *tr

Entering interstate, car would not accelerate above 40 mph. code reader says throttle control stuck open? *tr

I was driving along when my vehicle began to sputter and stop. i was able to crank the vehicle up and drive a few feet before it started back up again, this time with the check engine light on. i was able to make it to an advanced auto parts store where they pulled the check engine error code and it indicated that it was an issue with the throttle body. i am able to drive it currently, but i am concerned that the throttle will stick just as i'm attempting to cross a busy intersection. *tr

In september of 2010, the check engine light on my ford escape would come on and off, on and off. some times it would stay on for weeks and then just disappear. sometimes it would stay on for a day or two and then disappear. and whenever i need to take it to the repair shop, the check engine light was never on. pep boys could never find anything wrong because they check engine light was never on, and no codes appeared. when pep boys drove the car, it never stopped on them. in april of 2012, as my son was home from college and driving the car, it shut off on him on the freeway on many occasions. he would explain to me that the engine went off and the car would not accelerate. he would have to pull over and either restart it or wait an hour for it to start sometimes. this happened on numerous occasions at fast and slow speeds. the check engine light and maintenance lights would come on. the car began stopping on me with the exact same problems stated above. every time i took the car to pep boys, they would drive it for hours and it never stopped on them. on april 29, 2012, i took the car in to pep boys, and the stop engine code read that the cam sensor needed to be replaced. i got the car back on may14, 2012, and it immediately stopped on me. then it ran good for two weeks, then it began stopping again on a regular basis. on june 21, 2012, i took the car in and the codes read throttle problem. they replaced the throttle and i got the car back on june, 29, 2013. i have spend over $3500.00 on this problem and would like to get reimbursed. one thing to not is that the original check light began to come on around august of 2011 and there never was a clear diagnosis until may and june of 2013. *tr

I was stopped at a red light and when the light turned green i pressed the accelerator but the engine seemed to have stalled. i did have slight forward momentum that was jerky and i was able to pull off to the side of the road. i turned the car off, sat for a few minutes, then tried to restart the car. the car did start and no warning lights were on the dashboard. i was able to drive to my subdivision without incident but once i turned into my neighborhood the car stalled again. the car was then towed to my ford dealership where i was told the throttle needed to be replaced. since the throttle is considered an electrical component it was not covered under the powertrain warranty. the bill was approximately $670. i was not told this was a common incident in my model and year of car. *tr

I had to get the throttle body replaced on my 2009 escape because the car engine would disengage and the gas pedal would stop working. the car would coast to a stop and i would have to shut it off and cut it back on to get it to re-engage. this happened ever couple of days for a few weeks and then i took it to the dealer. the dealer has had my car for almost a month and claims that there was a bad production batch that caused a national backlog of parts. the call center has been unresponsive and ford is claiming that i have to pay full price for the part even though i have been without a car for nearly a month. *tr

On april 19, 2013,i was driving out of the parking lot from my home. i stopped at the exit to wait for traffic to clear. i gave it gas it jerked and i was no longer able to accelerate the car. the wrench icon came on. i was able to basically crawl back to my home. it felt like it would if u put the car in neutral where it would just coast slowly. the next day i started the car and it went back to normal. it happened again a few days later & i took it to ford. they said nothing was wrong (no code on computer). that visit cost me $497.89 this happened again on 06-20-13 again driving locally maybe 25 mi/hr.& took to ford. after researching online i see it's a common prob. i had them chg the throttle body. (my bother is a mechanic) of course my warranty didn't cover this prob. that visit was another $368.49. this car has 23k mi on it. i hope this problem has been fixed. *tr

Car stalled while moving forward after backing out of parking space. car had operated for 15 minutes before pulling into space, then immediately backing out without stopping engine. for approximately a year and one half yellow service engine light intermittently comes on then goes off after few driving cycles. car also hesitates and jerks during acceleration randomly and frequently. service dept of used car dealer where purchased car has detected no defects and has not replicated problem when car left at shop. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph the vehicle stalled. additionally, the vehicle surged suddenly while driving under 30 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated the throttle body would had to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. *tr

While accelerating at low speeds (15 - 20 mph), the vehicle suddenly began to shudder and lurch, with no increase in throttle or power despite flooring the gas pedal. yellow check engine / repair lights came on, vehicle would jerkingly continue to move forward at a speed of less than 5 mph. after conducting a search, it appears to be similar to the "limp home mode" throttle body problem reported by the north carolina consumers council. *tr

Driving approximately 45 miles per hour when the vehicle lost acceleration. the engine continued to run but would not accelerate. was able to pull over to the side of the road and engine continued running. turned the engine off and back on and engine did accelerate for approximately 1 mile before repeating the failure. pulled over once again and repeated the process and was able to make it home (about 3 more miles). took the vehicle to the ford dealership next morning and diagnosis is a bad throttle body. repair cost north of $400. this also happened a few times within a year of purchasing the vehicle but was not repeatable and the check engine light / diagnostic codes apparently didn't fire. *tr

Was driving about 25-30 mph on a side street, vehicle started to sputter and stall, felt like the engine was dying, so was able to pull off into a parking lot and turned the car off, sat for a few mins, then restarted and pulled out and everything was fine. approximately 6 months later, similar issue, was driving about 25 on a side street, car sputtered, stalled, so pulled over, turned off, waited then restarted. a few days later, was driving about 35 on a side street, same issue, then the check engine light came on, so pulled over and called for a tow. car is currently being serviced at the ford dealership and have been notified that it was a throttle body issue, which i am having to pay $550 to fix. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30-60 mph, the vehicle would decelerate independently. the wrench warning light would illuminate immediately afterward. the vehicle was later taken to a dealer where they advised her that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired for the throttle body. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 56,000. the current mileage was approximately 56,500. the vin was unavailable.

Vehicle stalled when attempting to accelerate after stopping at a light. vehicle would move approximately 3 mph. wrench symbol and engine symbol lit up in the display area. drove (very slowly) vehicle into a parking lot. shut off vehicle, restarted it, and did not get engine "rev" when depressing gas pedal. approximately 30 minutes later, the vehicle started and operated normally. had vehicle towed to repair shop (didn't trust it to drive it). shop inspected the vehicle in a number of ways the next day and could not reproduce or identify the problem. they said that the on-board event recorder did not record an event. that was the first incident. the 2nd and 3rd incidents occurred today, april 24 2013. vehicle again stalled while attempting to accelerate at an intersection. wrench symbol and engine symbol lit up in display area. pulled into a parking lot, shut off vehicle, and then it started again and ran. about 2 minutes later, the vehicle stalled while driving approximately 40 mph. again pulled off the main road and restarted the vehicle. was able to drive it the remaining 3-5 minutes to get home. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the accelerator became unresponsive without warning. the vehicle was shut down and restarted then operated as designed. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated there was no recall associated with the vin and offered no other assistance. the failure and current mileage was 60,566. updated 06/04/2013*lj

Vehicle was at 55 mph on a state highway and just immediately lost power. went into limp mode. when it was placed in park, shut off then restarted, it would gain speed properly again. there have been several incidences of this happening since january. once was in the middle of a major intersection which could have caused a wreck. another time was on a main highway going up the side of a mountain with no shoulder to pull off on and traffic behind me. once more was on a major interstate going 70 mph. during the entirety of one day, it happened six separate times. after researching on the internet, we found that this could very likely be a throttle problem and needs to be recalled before someone gets injured or killed. *jb

While driving in medium traffic, the engine died and the check-engine-light appeared on the dash. i was able to pull to the side of the road and re-start the car. once back on the highway, the engine died again less than a quarter of a mile later. i started the car a second time and the engine once again died. by this time, traffic was beginning to back up behind me and i was entering an area where there was no shoulder to escape to if it happened again. i pulled off the highway and called for a tow. the local ford dealer said the throttle body had failed, they had recently replace a couple of others. cost of the repair was $400. ford said it was not covered under warranty. i retained the failed part and have it available for inspection. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated the vehicle accelerated several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions and they were unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated and slowed down rapidly on several occasions, but never stalled. the failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 70,000. *tr

Car stalls when stopping intermittent, will restart, no error lites. tach fluctuates when coming to a stop and if no stall will settle around 7000. *tr

My 2009 ford escape has acceleration problems. i try not to make left turns due to vehicle slowing down when i am accelerating, the wrench comes on in the cab when i start experiencing the problem. also when on highway wrench light comes on and car slows down lie the brakes are on. *tr

First incident occurred end of november, car stalled while traveling on rte 7 in ct. brought the car to ford where i was told the diagnostic box registered the issue was with the fuel sensors. the fuel sensors were replaced and the car had no issue until april. in april, car stalled again. i brought it to the dealer and the box did not register anything. last week (may 21st), i left my office to go on lunch break and the car stalled 4x. i drove (?) the car straight to the dealer which is less than a mile away. the car registered that it was the throttle body issue. since this is a well known issue with these cars, the part is back ordered with an unknown completion date. the dealer then cleaned out my current throttle body and told me that this was a temporary 3 mos fix. this morning 5/29, the car died again 4x on i-95. 2 of the 4x it stalled, i was in near accidents. this is a widely documented issue with ford and it's incredible to me that there hasn't been a recall on these cars. this is a very serious safety issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice where the failure was unable to be replicated. on the third occasion, it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 70,000. *tr

While driving down a the highway(with my two small children in the car), the car made an odd sound and then the gas pedal stopped working. my car did not just stop, it was still driving and i was able to pull off to the side, but i could not give the car gas. once i pulled over and was at a complete stop with my foot on the brake, the car continued to try and accelerate. i placed the car in park and it still continued. i had to completely turn the car off for it to stop moving. *tr

While driving on a busy highway my car stalls out and shuts off forcing me to pull over and turn the key to off position, waiting several minutes before allowing me to turn the car back on and having to rev the engine for it to turn completely over. a couple miles down the road while coming to a stop or slowing to a stop the car does this again. this will happen about 4 times a day while driving and will happen for about 2-3 days, then will run like it should without incident. about 4-5 months later it will start up again, while driving the car will stall out and this happens several times a day while driving, for a few days. i've taken the car to autoshops to try and figure out the issue and no one seems to be able to detect the problem. this not only is scary, but extremely dangerous. *tr

My 2009 ford escape stalled (engine running but no forward motion and no response to accelerator) while driving. this happened while attempting to enter heavy traffic. i was almost rear-ended by oncoming vehicles. the problem was diagnosed as a problem with the throttle body by dealer. i had to pay to have the throttle body replaced. this is known defect, very similar to nhtsa action # dp12006: "...vehicles that were diagnosed as failed throttle bodies with diagnostic trouble codes p2111, throttle body stuck open, and p2222, throttle body stuck closed. the petitioner indicates that the owners of both vehicles reported experiencing repeated incidents of stalling..." ford has "released a number of technical service bulletins that cover a wide range of vehicles and throttle body issues related to hesitation and stalling, including 08-18-2 and 09-23-5." this is a serious safety issue. i contacted ford (both corporate and the dealership) and they have indicated that they will not take action to address this issue until a recall is initiated by the nhtsa. *tr

Pulling out into traffic while stopped, pressed gas peddle car rolled but not strong , hesitated as i had told ford dealer, had to slam brakes so car would not go, by then upcoming car was to close. no accident but scared me. this happens often. not safe to have passengers, or myself. many complaints to ford but nothing done about it. *tr

On 10/19/2013 after picking up my car for the 3rd time at ford for transmission problems i was driving on the interstate at approximately 55mph , vehicle lost power, all the lights on the dash turned on including a wrench symbol. i took it to back to the ford dealer where they kept it and stated it was repaired, the second incident was on 06/10/2013 where i was almost involved in a terrible accident because it happened again while i was on the interstate at a speed of 55mph. the vehicles behind me where not aware i had lost power causing a back up until i was able to get the car to the side of the road. ford says its a throttle problem which is now not covered because i am now over 60k miles, therefore i have to pay to get it fixed. *tr

While driving my 2009 ford escape at around 40-60 mph the car suddenly and without warning lost all acceleration. at the same time the orange wrench came on my dashboard. i was able to pull to the side of the road and when i came to a stop, the engine almost died, but never did. putting the car in park and turning it off and back on again seemed to alleviate the problem - and the orange wrench went away, until it happened again a few miles down the road. that morning it happened 5-6 times within a half hour or so and the check engine light came on the last time. this problem has occurred once randomly before but the mechanic could find no reason for it to be happening. since the check engine light remained on this time he ran a diagnostic test and concluded the throttle body was dirty. after cleaning it, the car ran fine for about 5 days when it started happening again. *tr

Was driving cruise control down the highway when the gas pedal lost affect. the car would no longer accelerate. i stopped on the side of the highway and it was shaking. i shut the car off and restarted it. worked fine the rest of the day. i know its something to do with the throttle body. it has done it maybe 200 times since then and almost caused a serious car crash the last time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that while traveling at unknown speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and it was determined that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 52,873 and the current mileage was 57,000. ..updated 05/01/13 *bf the consumer stated after stopping at a red light, he then proceeded to drive. the vehicle reached a speed of 30 mph, while going uphill, and then stalled. updated 05/21/13

I recently read in a newspaper about an engine probe for ford vehicles and would like to add that i have also experienced this problem with stalling and/or surging engine in my 2009 ford escape limited. i believe my car had experienced this "limp home mode" on the circuit board. on this particular day, i was driving in traffic and then all of a sudden i felt as though i could not accelerate the car at all. the rest of my trip home (approx. 25 miles) the car wouldn't let me surpass about 20mph. i was very scared but wanted to at least get the car closer to my home. i thought the car was done for. yet, after letting the car rest for about an hour at home, i started it back up and it drove fine. i just wanted to share this experience of yet another person who could contribute to experiencing a malfunctioning circuit board. *tr

Had just come over the tn river bridge on i40 east in tn and was approaching mile marker 137 when the vehicle became non responsive to throttle with no dash indication lights. at first i thought fuel pump shut down because acceleration did not work. i knew the engine was still running by rpm and power steering worked. the vehicle was coasting in the left lane and there was traffic behind, in front and in right lane. i turned on hazard lights in hopes of warning the traffic around me. the semi behind me had to slow also and i could not change lanes at moment. contemplating going left into the median and maybe striking an upcoming bridge rail or wait for open right lane and get to right side of interstate. i had an opening and turned off hazard flasher and then gave a right blinker, cutting off the semi behind who was trying to go around me. at that moment i thought we would get hit. pulled over and the wrench light came on and no check engine light. vehicle idled bad like a misfire and rpm gauge went up and down unsteadily. i videoed the fluctuation while pulled over. turned car off and restarted no problem. problem came back again 74 miles later in nashville at 88756 miles. at that point on i440e and i65 split the vehicle, without warning, shutdown again, became non responsive to throttle. then the wrench light and check engine light came on and i pulled over videoed the fluctuating gauges. turned vehicle off and restarted and lights went off and proceeded to crown ford on thompson lane and the service dept was closed. this issue also happened 5 times on 9-3-2012, between mileage 89,9002 to 89,1181, while in alabama/tn. example going uphill, and also coasting into someones driveway at night . this vehicle still currently has the trans flare issue even after two pcm reflash. but ford cant get it to act up. i thought maybe this issue was related. *tr

Petition for defect investigation into my 2005-2012 ford escape vehicles for throttle body failures resulting in a stall while driving event or engine surge event *tgw on of the complainants complained of a stuck accelerator pedal. the failure was diagnosed as a failed throttle body with engine codes p2111; throttle body stuck open and p2222; throttle body stuck closed. there was no evidence of any mechanical interference on throttle blade or any carbon build-up.

Purchased used 2009 ford escape in august 2012. ran fine for the first month then started to hesitate when accelerating. we are now having repeated hesitation and engine surging. we are becoming concerned about pulling into traffic and having the engine stall. with only 44000 miles in it, ford will not pay for the repair because it is out of warranty. first ford purchased in 30 years, probably the last too. *tr

While driving at a constant speed the throttle control actuator inside the throttle body can become stuck and cause the driver to loose all throttle and speed control. problem will present itself as a transmission issue as shifting through all the gears will not clear the problem, until engine is powered down and restarted. this is a clear and evident problem that appears at or around 75,000 miles. ford refuses to acknowledge that this is a problem with the factory model throttle body installed in most escape model vehicles. regular engine diagnostics do not display an error code unless the diagnostic computer is connected to the car at the time of incident and warning light is on. *tr

I was driving on the nj parkway when all of a sudden i had no gas peddle. i was doing 75 at time and truck started bucking was able to pull to side of road.. restarted it and went on my way. since then i have stalled everyday to many to count. *tr

While traveling at 70mph, vehicle suddenly stalled while driving in the center lane of a highway in heavy traffic. no warning signs were displayed. after pulling to the shoulder, vehicle was able to be restarted and seemed to be fine. service technician found a failure code for 'throttle stuck closed' with 'freeze data' showing it happened at 71mph. he inspected the throttle and found no problems. as a precaution, he cleaned the throttle blade with a cleaning wipe. a week later, the vehicle stalled again as i was pulling into traffic. in order to keep the vehicle running, i then needed to keep my foot on both the gas and brake while at stops. return to my technician and he diagnosed the problem as a defective throttle body. he said that the computer data showed the throttle open only 52% when the throttle was wide open. vehicle has not yet been repaired. *tr

While driving on us 441. our car stalled on the mountain between cherokee, n.c. and gatlinburg, tenn. we pulled to the side of the road, turned the engine off, and were able to restart it and continue for a few miles before the problem recurred. this stop and go occurred about 7 times before we were able to get to sevierville, tenn to get it repaired. my concern is that there are few places to pull to the side of the mountain, so it was dangerous for us and other cars to stop as we did. the dealer told us the problem was caused by a defective throttle body. *tr
