In july 2016 i had the brake booster replaced at a dealership after encountering braking problems, it was a warranty issue (68530 miles). early february 2020 i started to experience the same problem with the brakes, they were spongy and i had to press the brake pedal to the floor to get the vehicle to stop. today (2/12/2020) with 101155 miles on the vehicle, i was pulling into a parking lot (slow speed) and i encountered the same problem, except no spongy brakes, zero braking ability until i had the brake pedal fully pressed to the floorboard. eventually the vehicle came to a stop. i have reached out to the dealership that conducted the maintenance and i am waiting to hear back from them. note: the brake fluid level is fine. the experience earlier this month took place when i was preparing to park. this is a very serious safety issue, i am concerned for not only my safety but the people i encounter on the roads. i ran my vin and see that i have no recalls that have yet to be addressed; but my concern is that perhaps the faulty brake booster is faulty again and a recall needs to be re-issued..
The brakes randomly become soft and the pedal goes almost to the floor before bringing the car to a complete stop. a recall for this same problem was put out on 12/23/2019 for 2006-10 ford fusion, mercury milan, lincoln mkz. the 2012 edge should be included as a quick internet search shows i am not the only one with this issue. when you are driving 55-70 mph and the brakes randomly go soft it is a huge safety issue. this is not a constant occurrence, and it is hard for my mechanic to reproduce. it happens in all driving conditions, parking, highway, in town, when on/off the brakes or just hitting them to slow down on a highway. i have used my emergency brake to stop from hitting a car in front of me on a highway once, and my husband hit a bush when parking because of this. i reached out to ford, who was aware of my complaint, and was told there is no active recall, and to "be safe" this is unacceptable. either myself or someone else is going to get hurt.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while parking the vehicle in his garage, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle eventually rolled to a stop. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to five star ford dallas/plano (located at 8900 w president george bush hwy, dallas, tx 75252, (972) 985-3600), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 102,000.
Brakes have failed twice on this vehicle in driveway.
There is a partial recall on these model ford edge's. where the brake booster and brake master cylinder are defective and cause the brakes to fill with air and lose partial and sometimes total loss of braking power. this happened to my 2012 ford edge sport. i bought new factory parts and had them installed by a professional. they went out again. it had to do with he factory of the parts. please place a mass recall on this part. my wife and kids shouldn't get into a wreck due to brakes going out again. they already have totally gone out twice. the 2nd time my wife with daughter and my son in the car couldnt slow down in time and got into a fender bender. it wasn't serious. this time. thank you. also, another problem that has been noted by thousands of ford edge owners is the style of fuel door. it doesn't seal properly which in return causes a check engine light to appear on the instrument cluster. please investigate this issue as sell. thank you.
Brakes go all the way to floor. i have had brake booster replaced and master cylinder and still there is an issue. see that other people are having same issue and that ford needs to check into this before somebody is badly injured!
Breaks are hard and then go to the floor. break flued seems to be leaking from the break booster. my wife inherited this vehicle from her mother who has parkinson disease and can no longer drive. she took ownership on or about august 19, 2019. she has complained about the breaks, but the problems seemed to come and go. over the past 2 days the brakes failed several times with her narrowly avoiding major accidents.as she attempted to stop at lights in a 45 mph zone in the city of flower mound tx. the car is not safe to drive. millage is currently 11,1030.
Intermittently, at low speeds the brake pedal is hard to depress and braking is difficult. it occurs frequently in reverse and less so in drive.
Takata recall' - i cannot count how many times this has happened to my vehicle. the breaks just refuses to function and the speed would not decrease. i have taken it to the dealership several times and they cannot find anything wrong with the breaks and they are not doing anything about it. last sunday (september 8,), my family and i almost died on the way to church. the vehicle would not stop!!! it finally came to a halt after been stopped by a pavement. i had to call ford for a tow truck (which i had to pay for but they gave me a discount). my car has been with their service department for three days now. they keep saying that they cannot find anything wrong with it - this was exactly what happened the first time and 1-2 months later, we are back at the exact same spot!! there are several people online with the same issue. this car is not safe. who else is supposed to diagnose a car but the manufacturer?!! if the manufacturer cannot find what is wrong with it, then the world is in big trouble. i thank god for always protecting myself and my family. my vehicle was in motion from highway to turning to red light. this car is not safe for the road. **on the next page: i answered yes to was there a crash" - i didn't crash into another vehicle, i crashed into a pavement at church that stopped the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the brakes were malfunctioning. the contact noticed a crack on the driver's side rotor that pulsated when driving down a hill. the contact suspected the dealer switched the vin with another vehicle when she took it to jeff wyler nissan of cincinnati (8680 colerain ave, cincinnati, oh 45251, (513) 385-1400) earlier for air conditioning repairs. the repairs had not yet been completed. the dealer denied the vin accusation and the contact was seeking legal assistance. the manufacturer stated that since the dealer was not authorized by them, they could not assist. the failure mileage was unknown.
Intermittent brake failure. first occurrence on 7/9/19. most recent, today, 9/17/19. no warning lights, system shows brakes are ok, fluid level is continually perfect. absolutely no warning. you go to apply brakes and it suddenly goes straight to the floor. first 3 occurrences i was able to pump the brakes hard 3-6 times and it gradually went back to normal. 4th time resulted in brake failure multiple times over a 2-3 mile period, continually pumping brakes. they would start to stiffen up, be spongy, fall to the floor again, stiffen up, fail, spongy, etc. this is a serious safety issue and there appears to be numerous complaints about this. how many crashes or deaths will it take to hold the manufacturer accountable? this needs to be investigated thoroughly, the issue needs to be determined and corrected prior to the loss of life or serious injury. previous complaints show costly repairs with no result of the issue being corrected. all 4 instances of brake failure i have experienced i was in motion, on a county road, three instances of turning and one going straight.
Braking issues exactly as a prior issue that was repaired with booster repair as part of a customer campaign. dealership and the ford customer service line states that these parts are no longer covered or a safety concern for them! issue appears unexpectedly when the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, feels soft initially then hardens at the last possible minute. it happens intermittently at first and is unreliable and unsafe! this happened at 70 and 100 thousand miles. this happens while driving under varying circumstances and is unpredictable initially, very sad that ford is not concerned for a previously loyal customer!
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving 40 mph, the brakes failed. when the contact attempted to brake, the pedal traveled to the floorboard. the contact almost crashed into another vehicle due to the failure. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new master cylinder and abs bleed motor unit needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 147,013. the consumer stated no warning lights illuminated when the failure occurred.*js
Brakes quit working while executing a normal stop. pedal to the floor. replaced all brake components and after a month of repairs mechanic said car is not fixable that i need to junk the car. upon further research i discovered that many other vehicles with the same make and model have the exact same problems
I was driving to work through a busy town i was preparing to stop at a stoplight and my brakes went to the floor there weren't any signs of brake issues prior so i assumed the brakes needed replacing so when i got off work i went and bought brakes my husband was gonna put them on when he checked he said the brakes were fine that the fluid could be leaking the fluid level was fine and no leaks were found he still looked for one just in case so next he said it could be master cylinder and reservoir i was looking online at this point and seen all the same issues others were having as well with this suv i told him there wasn't any need to spend more money because the way it sounded was that its not gonna fix the issue any how because ford itself can't figure out why brakes are going to the floor themselves so i'm left with a unsafe vehicle to drive with a payoff of 10000 dollars what do i do? i'm so tired of getting screwed that i'm abt to hire an attorney and find out why am i left with this problem to face and why others are having to suffer as well if there's an ongoing lawsuit near washington nc let me know if not there's soon to be one if others need to join as well
Vehicle purchased 12 feb 2012. at 8,344 miles, vehicle was checked into the service department at shamaley ford, el paso, tx because power brakes were not working on an intermittent basis. complaint reads: "brake pedal hard and when pumping goes very low." service department comment: "cause: booster not working at times. 2005a brake booster assembly . . . replace bt4z*2005*a booster asy - brake" now at 65,495 (16 may 2019), the same condition exists. not involved in a collision, but a few times the vehicle came too close to other cars before stopping. occurs consistently after being parked, and then intermittently at highway speeds while using cruise control. stepping on brake failed to disengage cruise control the first time, had to take the foot off the brake pedal and step on the brake hard again. happens a city speed limits, also intermittently. defective part? needs to be investigated, and if defective, issue a recall and hold ford responsible for free replacement.
My brakes have been routinely serviced and brake booster replaced . the paddle goes all the way to floor. i just had the works done last week on april 10th 2019 . well today we weren't so lucky. we left for vacation and in virginia we got into an accident because the brakes failed on us .
Pedal went to the floor while driving on a highway which almost resulted in a serious car accident because the braking system did not engage. unaware of the numerous complaints about spongy brakes, ntb attempted to replace hoses and master cylinder to no avail after replacing the master cylinder three times. there is obviously a defect in the parts /system since qualified mechanics can't fix the vehicle. car will be towed to a ford dealership but they have already started with disclaimers and that there is no recall or issues with the braking system despite numerous complaints about this very problem . nhtsa needs to intervene and force ford to recall this defective part . lives can be lost unnecessarily because no one has taken action on behalf of the consumer.
After strong braking event - brake pedal became very soft and increasing pressure on the pedal was required to stop the vehicle. took into a ford dealer for repair - brake booster was replaced. a year later after a similar braking event - the same symptoms re-appeared. dealer said it was faulty brake pad install. problem persisted. 2 other independent mechanics replaced the master cylinder and bled the system. problem persisted. now dealer says its the hydraulic control module. however it would appear to be the booster again. this seems to be a faulty part that ford will not admit needs to be recalled.
Intermittent loss of brakes. brake peddle goes to the floor board. also engine has now died twice when idling once at a stop, once while parked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving at any speed, the contact felt an abnormal condition and heard a noise coming from the brake system. the brake pedal had to be applied with force to the floorboard to ensure the vehicle came to a complete stop. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in any recall campaigns for the brakes. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was not available.
I was out running errands and everything was fine. left a store to pick up my daughter from practice and had to stand on the brakes to get the vehicle to stop at a red light. this was after stopping fine at the previous three stores and numerous lights i encountered. this issue continued for the next 15 miles of lights and traffic, until i got home. i did stop at an o'reillys auto parts on my way home and checked the brake fluid level, which was full. i have parked the vehicle and have been driving my son's jeep for the past three days. i have an appointment to drop the edge off at williamsburg ford, williamsburg, va, on 3/28/19. i have researched this issue and evidently there is a customer satisfaction program announcement of a brake booster issue covered under an extended warranty (13n01) and have read more than 130 other people have experienced issues identical to mine. not understanding why this is not a recall due to the nature of the failure being brakes!!!!!!! failure occurred at 69,536 miles on odometer. i have also recently had an issue with hard shifting from park to drive. i feel and hear a clunk when shifting and taking off from being parked.
When trying to stop the brake pedal goes all the way to bottom before stopping. brake fluid is full. problem started immediately and without warning. vehicle was in motion at a low rate of speed pulling into parking area.
First has brake issues about 1-2 years after i purchased my car in 2012. the brake booster was replaced under the extended warranty, and i have had no issues up until january 2019. my brakes went out while stopping at a train track with a train coming, replaced the brake booster and all is seemingly well. now one month later, my brakes have gone out again while stopping at a stoplight in the rain (almost hit the car in front of me), and the mechanic can't figure out what is wrong. they've replaced the brake booster again, the master cylinder, flushed the lines, called ford and flushed the lines the way they recommended, and the most they can get my brakes to work for is 30-40 minutes before they go out again. the mechanic literally told my dad to light a match, and let the insurance take care of it! why hasn't this been recalled based on all of these stories?!?
I have had to brake quickly on 2 occasions and 1 of the times i had to slam on my brakes as a car ran a stop sign coming off the highway. the pedal went all the way to the floor, i had to swerve into the other lane to avoid hitting the car and barely was able to stop my car. the second time i had to stop quickly and brake grinded to a stop in heavy traffic and a city street. both time the pedal went all the way to the floor. during my new york state inspection did not pass due to a soft brake pedal, i had the back brakes replaced and they discovered the master cylinder had a leak. i had it replaced as well and the brakes still are not working properly. i have an appointment this saturday to have the long pins (i think that's what it's called) replaced on the back brakes. they also said it's possible i will need to have the power brake booster replaced. after several hundred dollars and 4 saturday's spent at the car repair store and still not resolution to the brake problem. i've read multiple complaints about the same issues on the same year, make and model car maybe it's time to issue a recall before it costs someone their life.
While driving and trying to stop the brake pedal became very hard to push. had the brake booster replaced. now after only 6 months the brake pedal is soft. had the master cylinder replaced and it is still acting the same. this is unsafe and will not pass inspection. this is a common problem according to my research with ford edges. they have a replacement program in place for the brake booster but this was fixed and have a similar problem. so obviously that isn't the answer.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to jennings anderson ford (31480 frontage rd, boerne, tx 78006) where the brake booster was replaced. two weeks later, while driving 65 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not respond. the contact had to swerve off the road to avoid a crash. the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit and master cylinder needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 117,000.
This is the third complaint i have filed in an attempt for this issue to be investigated. as i was pulling into my garage this evening, my brakes failed again with no warning. i narrowly missed hitting the wall. i was traveling at a low speed. my vehicle has approximately 100,000 miles on it.
I had the brake booster, master cylinder, new brake pads and brake hydraulic system replaced 5 months ago and now it's doing the same thing again. brakes are hard to push and very difficult to stop or go all the way down. also, burning smell around the brakes. very dangerous.
When approaching an intersection the brakes failed and brake pedal fell all the way to the floor, forcing me to turn into curb to avoid being hit by cross traffic. this is an intermittent issue that occurs when pressure is placed on the system. the ford dealership has already replaced the brake booster and master cylinder (twice) and they cannot duplicate the issue. this has almost caused several wrecks, as there is typically no warning signs to when it may occur.
My wife was driving to work after dropping our 2 year old off at grandmas. she went to slow for a stale green light and the brake pedal went to the floor. luckily she was almost to work at this point. we had the vehicle towed to my shop. replace the brake booster because it has a known issue ( no recall just warranty extension), also replaced the master cylinder because this was clearly a hydraulic failure in the brake system. driving the vehicle home that night with a good pedal until i get to the off ramp, at 70 miles an hour there is no longer any brake pedal and had to use the transmission to safely slow the vehicle. now my wife is terrified to drive her vehicle in fear that the pedal is there one minute and gone the next.
I was on 222 in kutztown pa it was rain the vechile in front of slammed on his brakes i in turn did the samething except their was no abs the brake pedal went all the way to the floor i had enough distance between me and the other the other carme to a stop the brakes were very spongy.the vechile was towed to a dealership. the dealership replaced the brake booster, the abs booster, rear brake pads and roaters.the brake pads and roators were new april 2017 and inspected in may 2018 they were fine.only 13000 miles were put on the car since 2017.on the way home today the brakes went out again.
I have experience brake failure 3 times since november 2018. i have had numerous repairs such as brake booster replacement, master cylander, flushes, hcu assy replacement and my brakes still go out. all the while with my children in the car. i am scared to drive it anymore
Brake pedal went to floor. happened in an instant. no loss of brake fluid, no external to atmosphere fluid leak. taken to ford dealership. dealer could not find issue, just started replacing parts. at ford dealer over one month and one week. cost to repair over $900.00. dealer could not explain what went wrong. i had to push the issue hard with the svc. manager. finally after 2nd "special brake flush" issue was corrected! now for the smoking gun..daughter has 2019 honda odyssey van. recently gets recall for brake issue. honda must bleed rear brakes. looked up recall. issue with "coating on rear internal disc brake parts creates air bubbles inside system causing loss of brake pedal". look up who supplies brakes to ford and honda (& many others)....company called akebono supplies to most of n.a.! this is another "takata" issue brewing! i suspect ford is covering up any knowledge of this loss of brake issue. and, this loss of brake issue will occur on thousands if not millions of other vehicles, its just a matter of time!
When the brake abs system engaged, several minutes later the bake pedal went to the floor and the bakes failed.
8-11-2016 complete brake failure while in motion, brake pedal travels to floor with no power assist. dealer diagnoses and replaces brake booster. 9-24-2018 complete brake failure unable to stop at highway speeds. managed to get to safety. pedal travels to floor no stopping. called dealer once more, was advised to contact ford for coverage of work as it is out of warranty. do not want this vehicle with 2 brake failure events. pending service case.
While driving vehicle brake pedal went to the floor making the vehicle almost impossible to stop. i took the vehicle to a mechanic who replaced the brakes and master cylinder however that did not correct the problem of no brake pedal. i then took the vehicle to ford where they advised that they have seen a rash of this problem, and advised that it is most likely the abs control module. the vehicle is at the ford dealership as i type. this is the second issue with this vehicle, the first was a brake booster failure that made the brake pedal very hard to push.
On 9/18/18 while traveling home from doing some errands went to apply brakes to slow and turn and pedal went to the floor, pumped them a few times to stop and since they have progressively gotten worse to a point our mechanic suggested not to drive the vehicle. after some research it looks like a common problem for the edge! is ford going to step up?? sounds like a costly adventure. ford needs to take responsibility!! reached out to ford for recall info. and there happens to none for my vehicle. they suggested to bring to a ford dealer mechanic and after diagnosis maybe ford will help ease the financial pain. maybe! unfortunately ford mechanics are more than double the cost of our more than capable mechanic. for the safety of all edge owners please issue a recall.
Brake booster went out, door ajar keeps coming and leaves my interior lights on draing battery
In august 2018, i applied the brakes on my 2012 ford edge and the pedal went to the floor. this happened before and took it for diagnostic; abs sensor was tripped, but once reset all appeared to work fine. was not sure what problem was and since could not replicate, it was not clear what we should do to fix problem. it has now happened again. i had no brake pressure, but could hear a whistle sound when releasing the brake. i had the master cylinder and brake booster replaced. however, on test drive during hard braking the pedal again went to floor, whistling stopped. it appears the problem is in the abs system. the cost to replace electronic and hydraulic abs is over $1100. after online research, i can see this is common problem with ford edges -- clearly too common.
3 times brakes were soft and brake pedal went completely to floor when traveling down the road. car was slow to stop!!! taking a long time, standing up on brakes. after pumping them several times still pedal going to floor. very dangerous. now, very little brakes at all. even sitting still, brake pedal goes to floor. online reviews, many ford edge vehicles with same manufacture problem. i'll be taking car to mechanic because i need transportation.
When driving my 2012 ford edge i experienced problems with the brakes at low speeds. when i was parking or trying to stop for a stop light, the brakes would become rock hard and i would have to push as hard as i could and hope it would stop. it was a very frightening experience and a definite safety issue. on one occasion i was unable to get the car to stop and rolled into the road. i just bought the car less than 48 hours before. i was informed it was due to the brake booster being bad. ford is repairing this.
The brake booster went bad and the ford dealer noted this was no longer covered even though there is a field service issue noted. car is under 133000, power in brakes just went away and brakes were spongy.
The original power brake booster failed and was replaced. the second power brake booster failed and another one was replaced. the ford dealership did not want to recognize that there was a problem with this part again and passed it off as something else (rear caliper) causing the brakes to loose pressure. i hope a review of these parts will be made for other driver's safety. see attachments.
I have a 2012 ford edge that has had major brake failure happen. over the last few weeks while braking for a stop light the brake pedal drops to the floor, and barely avoided rear ending the car in front, and then seemingly works fine again afterwards, making me question myself as to how big of an issue it had. yesterday it completely failed and turning off interstate at an off ramp (going 70mph!) i nearly rear ended the semi in front of us at the stop sign!! my 8 month pregnant wife was in the front seat with me and my two dogs in the back seat! we were within inches of the semi bumper decapitating us! i very slowly made it to a parking lot across the street with use of parking brake, and had the car towed home. once home in my droveway the brakes seem to work. so i search the web to have an idea if this is a vehicle specific problem before going to mechanic..whoah! there are more complaints identical to mine than i can count! ford has not issued a safety recall for this life threatening defect. i have read constantly it is the brake booster or master cylinder, but that replacing with new ford oem part only gives them a few months or years before it too fails! i cannot gamble my family's lives on a defective ford part. i have ford vehicles from the 80s and none have ever had catastrophic brake failures while driving. this is certainly a model specific defect and needs to be remedied. i am reluctant to trade off the vehicle after i have it repaired and pass the problem on to someone elses family, but i don't want to repair it, and have my family relying on a ticking time bomb for the next time it fails to stop. it is very dangerous for ford to have a fleet of edges on the road all waiting to endanger innocent lives when they smash into a car, building, or cement barrier. please force ford to address this issue, recall every car with the defect, and save lives.
Brake booster has gone out three times resulting in loss of stopping power. pedal goes to floor and vehicle does not stop properly. ford has 13n02 campaign, but it only covers it one time. since this is a safety issue the nhtsa must get involved.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that one side of the brake caliber emitted more pressure than the other, which caused the brake pads and rotors to wear over time. the contact previously replaced the same parts twice. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and repairs in the past. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired for the recent failure. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
From june 2018 to june 2019 i have invested over $4000 in primarily the braking sytem of my car. i continue to have issues when after filling my gas tank the car hesitates in starting. i have replaced everything that has to do with the breaking system from brake pads to hcu system to the abs system. even the new parts have had to be replaced because they were faulty.
On monday 5/14/18 notice my ford edge 2012 brake don't stop the suv will the pedal go all away down i think need new set of brake take to mechanic and installed the new brakes front and back tuesday 5/15/18 my wife after driving to pick up my son in the school happened again the suv don't stop for anything my wife have to maneuver the suv to the side and hit the concrete column to prevent car accident .on new jersey and the other issue is for more then 2 moths check engine lights appear in dash take to mechanic more then 5 time is something with the fuel system no one no which the problem ford edge from 2010 to 2013 have some many recall with the brakes and fuel system and ford dealers don't want to fix this recall issue wath ford waiting to peoples lost lives to resolve this recalls .
On two occasions in the last four months my wife was driving on the highway the edge and when she push down on the brake pedal it went all the way to the floor board. the second time this happened she pumped the brakes but still did not have brakes. my mechanic is guessing it's the brake master cylinder so we are having it replaced.
