In a head on collision with a telephone pole, the air bags did not deploy. the electrical would just shut down. brakes were acting strange. all while moving.
My wife was driving on a city street & had to apply hard braking. now the brake pedal goes to the floor & the car does not stop properly.
Could not stop the vehicle. soft pedal. thank goodness i always leave lots of room when in traffic. pressed on brakes. nothing. quickly pressed again. nothing. quickly pressed again. stood on brakes. :finally stopped. scared the daylights out of me. was sole passenger, thank goodness, as usually have passengers with me. has happened a few times this week and a few other times over the past month. thought i just needed to schedule an appointment with my mechanic to bleed the brakes or check the master cylinder. started at around 70,000 miles on vehicle. am taking car to my mechanic but am reading that this is a common problem with 2012 ford edges. why isn't there ar ecal when this seems to be a common occurrence! it's not a matter of if, but when, this will be a serious multi-casualty accident waiting to happen. do people need to die/become vegetables before anything will be done so that ford takes responsibility for mechanical/design flaws that can destroy lives and property???????
The 2010-2013 ford edge has a known issue with the brake booster, however, after two replacements of the brake booster alone, i am continuing to experience problems with my brakes. the time for my vehicle to come to a complete stop has tripled, if not more. i had the initial replacement done at approximately 60,000 miles and am having the same problem at 82,000. the brakes feel spongy and while they do not completely fail, the pedal goes all the way to the floor and stopping time is significantly decreased. this happens at all speeds in all conditions.
Brake pedal went to the floor with minimal ability to stop. contacted andy mohr ford. no issue found. replaced all breaks and rotors. on july 1st 2018 brake pedal went to floor again. andy mohr ford replace master cylinder. july 23 2018 brakes failed again. big big big safety issue.
Brake pedal is getting very hard when driving
2012 ford edge limited. consumer writes in regards to brake performance issues. *ld the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the labor cost replacement of the apim. *js
I have had trouble with brake system since i've purchased the vehicle. replaced brake pads several times. last week, noticed pushing brake pedal to the floor to stop, took in to the mechanic that i use-the entire master cylinder was blown out the back with brake fluid just pouring out. he replaced the master cylinder (from ford parts store) and also front and back brakes. when i picked up my vehicle, its still not corrected. brake pedal is still "loose" almost going to the floor as it was and now it has hissing noise and sponge pedal. i called the ford dealership, states that is a brake booster issue.to call and check recall on this particular vin #. i called ford motor co at 1-800-392-3673 and verified no recall on my specif vin #, but many ford edge 2012 have been recalled for the brake booster. they referred me to contact the national highway traffic and safety administration to give this safety complaint. i';m very upset that this is a safety issue with my ford edge and nothing is being offered to me through ford to get this issue fixed. this would be when vehicle is in motion obviously....
Brake booster failed nearly killing us in dec 2015 as we rolled into an intersection. luckily nobody hit us. repaired jan 2016 under cust satisfaction program 13n02 by ford, likely to avoid a real recall. replacement booster has now failed almost causing another accident after a year and 1/2 and 15k miles as wife had to run off road to avoid stopped traffic because she had no brakes. why has nhtsa not forced a recall? it is literally is a situation where thousands of these cars are rolling around with adults and young drivers not knowing that at some point they'll need to stop and they will have zero brakes. is anybody reading these? yes if you push to the floor hard and hold it tight it will eventually stop as a crude manual brake. kids have never driven a car without power brakes! the rest of us aren't expecting it since no warning signs. ford is simply installing the same defective part endangering lives. what do we do, sell the car and put someone else at risk since the replacement parts are the same faulty crap?
In september 2017, i was pulling into a bank with my 2012 ford edge. i applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. i tried reapplying them but once again had almost no braking power to stop. after coming to a stop with the parking brake i turned the car off then back on. still no brake pressure, but a whistle sort of squeak when releasing the brake. i contacted hub city ford in lafayette, la and brought it in for repairs (sept 11). there was a recall on the brake booster which they agreed was the problem, and they replaced. replacing the booster did not resolve the issue, and the dealership said the master cylinder needed to be replaced, even though there were no symptoms indicating an issue (no engine light, no leaks, no gradual loss in pressure). they replaced the master cylinder, then called to tell me there is still no brake pressure. now they are saying the hcu needs to be replaced, and it will cost $1200. there was no warning that this was going out, and to my knowledge, doesn't show up on any type of diagnostics. i contacted ford, and they created a case (cas-13144337) but would not tell me if there were other complaints with the same issue. by checking online, i see that this has happened many times to many car owners with no warning. the dealership told me that oftentimes they replace the power booster (recall issue) and ultimately end up replacing other components that are the real problem. the replaced boosters are being reported back to ford, but maybe the other components are not because they are not under recall (but clearly should be).
While turning into a parking lot on 6/26/17, my brakes failed - went to the floor and i kept going - slowly since i was turning. dealership sent a wrecker because i was afraid to drive the vehicle. it was the brake booster that had failed. i had just had new rear brakes put on 5/16/17 and went back because of clunking noise when i applied the brake on 6/1/17. i understand that this has happened to other 2012 ford edges and wanted you to add my vehicle to the list. could have been really bad if i had been driving fast and faster and suddenly needed to stop!
I could barely stop the car. i was in the mountains and there was no ford dealer in that town. i took it to a local shop and they said i should not drive over a mountain pass. there was a recall for the brake booster. i had it fixed and now ford is refusing to pay me back. they state it is not a safety recall.
Brakes press down to the floor and will not stop. sometimes the brakes are very hard and i'll have to pump them. pumping still doesnt guarantee a complete stop.
The car would not stop when the brakes were applied. the pedal felt hard and the car continued to roll. it came to a stop on my lawn. i took the car to my ford dealer and they immediately knew it was the brake booster. if i had been in traffic i might have had a collision or worse. i drove in my driveway and hit the brakes very hard and after three panic stops they seemed to work. i put the car away and the same thing happened the next day. i did three panic stops and the brakes began to work. i then took the vehicle to boucher ford where the service writer new what the problem was as soon as i told her what had happened. why is this not a recall? my car had non-functioning brakes! if there was a recall i was never notified. i bought the car new and have not changed my address since i bought the vehicle. i have serviced my car since new at the ford dealership.
Occasionally when braking (when the vehicle is in motion), the brake pedal becomes very soft and it feels like you have no brakes for the first 3/4 of the pedal. eventually you can slow down and come to a stop but you have to make sure you give yourself a lot of room as it takes a greater amount of time to stop the vehicle than normal. this failure is sporadic but has occurred on numerous occasions - especially when it is raining which is even scarier as you definitely want solid brakes when driving in the rain. but, it has also happened on completely dry days. when the car is on and in park, and you push the brake pedal you also hear a "thud" sound, and can feel a vibration in the gear shift. we have brought this problem to the dealer multiple times and they continue to tell us nothing is wrong, but it appears from reading others' posts that the brake booster has failed. we are taking it in one more time tomorrow and will push for resolution, but this really feels like something ford should address as a recall as it is a major safety issue.
The brakes are not working properly. when i put my foot on the brake, it takes several feet before the car will stop. if i were to have an emergency, i couldn't stop in time to avoid it. this occurs when i am driving and attempt to stop whether i am driving forward or backing up.
tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the steering wheel seized and the brake pedal was difficult to depress. in addition, the vehicle was shifted into neutral causing the vehicle to swerve right and hopped into a ditch and crash into a tree. the contact sustained a left hand and chest injuries that needed medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a towing yard. the contact was unaware if the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving 50 mph, the brake pedal was loose and traveled to the floorboard without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. afterwards, the vehicle made an abnormal hissing noise. the contact was informed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact called a local dealer (sloan-ford lincoln mercury inc, 115 s james campbell blvd, columbia, tn 38401). the manufacturer was notified of the issue and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 78,000.
I have this car in the shop for ptu x2, the sensors in the car went out causing the shifter and lights and doors not to work the breaks went out and now the cyclic converter is going out and there is a gas lick somewhere in the car or a viper lick somewhere and all of this started 3000 miles over the warranty and it has been in shop a total of 5 times in the past 2 years
Sometimes when the abs activates the brake pedal becomes very soft, you can still stop but you have very little braking for the first 3/4 of the pedal. i have figured out that i can rest the abs control module by going in to the car wash and activating the abs a few times. i think the problem is the hcu and i could have one put in but this seems to me to be a design failure and should be covered under a recall. its only happened a couple of times when driving during icy conditions but it should not happen and could cause an accident. *tr
There was a recall on the brake booster - possible 13n02 brake booster fsa - that i was not notified of. i called the ford dealer to diagnose a brake issue and a week later they got me in and then casually told me they replaced my brake booster at no charge because it was part of a recall. i just signed up on nhsta websites to be better informed.
When i try to stop the brakes get hard and the vehicle dont' stop. i can't used this vehicle
I have had the brake booster worked on shortly after i bought my new 2012 edge brand new.. i noticed this week that the brake doesn't depress when starting until after it starts.. i don't have a problem braking when driving. *tr
While driving at slow speeds pedal goes to floor but doesn't happen all the time. may drive 6 weeks before it happens again. ford has extended recall on power booster. dealer replaced booster says that was the problem. drove vehicle another three weeks and pedal goes to the floor again still while driving slow or coming down a hill pressing brakes slightly. replaced master cylinder but no change. scared to drive vehicle. never know when the brakes are going to act up. *tr
Brakes made a hissing sound when pressed and brake pedal went to the floor when pressed. when backing up there were hardly any brakes available to stop. took it into a mechanic and they had to replace the power brake booster. this is not simply replacing the brake pads but this is a mechanical issue on a vehicle that is only 4 years old. huge safety issue.
I was driving and went to stop brake pedal went to the floor. brake booster has been replaced and it still has issues. sometimes the brakes work and sometimes they don't. the ford dealership is no help. they said my brakes are fine. they are not fine. i'm not sure what to do.
17 year old driving her car, was on a slight incline, brakes failed, she almost rolled into the car behind her, but she was able to turn in the turning lane and make a right turn and did the responsible thing, call mom and dad after getting into a parking lot. hubby drove it home and he had to slam the pedal down to get the brakes, to work, we are waiting for dealership to open in the morning to tow this vehicle to get looked at as it is too dangerous to drive.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving approximately 5 mph and reversing on an incline, the brakes failed. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
Takata recall power brake booster bad on my 2012 ford edge basically, the car has a delayed hard stop.
Brakes are not operating properly, when i apply brakes it sounds like air deflating.
Fsa 13n02 brake booster extended warranty. my first complaint is that this fsa is not a "safety recall" but classified as a customer satisfaction action if someone complains about their brakes. i was pulling out onto a very busy street and seconds away from getting on the interstate when my brakes failed, i could not stop. my vehicle was in the shop for a different problem and supposedly brakes inspected as a "service to me" the day before this incident occurred. my 1st question is why was i not notified of this potential safety hazard and 2nd why doesn't ford consider this a safety issue. i was very lucky nothing happened to me, as i was on my way out of town for a trip. i find this very irresponsible on ford's part and something should be done about it. i am very seriously looking at a different manufacturer to make my next car.
While leaving the parking lot at work my wife's brakes failed without warning, she was lucky no cars were coming or she would have been hit. scary considering my wife and daughter ride in this car everyday, and we took it on vacation to colorado, just glad the brake didnt fail in the mountains. it was really just luck, cant believe that there hasn't been a mandatory recall for this problem. well the good news is ford is paying for the repair, thanks for stepping up after the fact, instead of doing what you should have done when you knew you had a problem. recall
My vehicle is experiencing the conditions detailed in ford's owner notification program 13n02 but the dealer and ford are claiming the brake booster was repaired in april 2014 prior to me taking ownership under the ford certified used car program and no further financial assistance towards the repair would be provided. i would have to pay and the quote is approaching $800 + to fix the concern. my vehicle has the spongy brake as detailed along with the hissing noise when the brakes are pressed. i have to push the pedal all the way down to the floor in order to stop the vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. the contact had to pump the brake pedal to get the vehicle to stop. also, the driver side door ajar light illuminated when the door was closed and the vehicle alarm sounds off at various times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 56,500.
I purchased my low mileage edge from local ford dealer. experiencing periodic issue with car transmission lag or jerking when accelerating from stop, as at a stop sign or pulling out of parking lots. took to dealer several times, they can't duplicate issue, no codes. more recently the backup camera has intermittently failed. no backup guidelines are present, sometimes backup camera is visible, then goes black, other times doesn't work at all. now my brakes are giving me issues. the pedal will either be very hard to press, as in losing power braking when a vehicle dies. then the pedal may go all the way to the floor. did experience something similar while in fast food drive thru, foot on brake, then brake losing pressure and pedal depressing to floor. i put the vehicle in park, then the "service advance track: light came on briefly. this vehicle is not safe and once i make a list of all of the service bulletins it's going to the dealer for repair. last time i went the idiot at the service counter put that i said the vehicle "stalled". never did i say that happened. i said there was a lag in acceleration and the feeling like a transmission jerking into gear. piece of junk ford, don't know what i was thinking buying it. all of these complaints on this site, amazing there aren't more accidents. shame on you ford! you used to make quality products.
Driving the vehicle on the freeway when the brakes took a substantial amount of force to stop. the car was sent to a ford licensed dealership where they diagnosed the brake booster has failed as well as air in the brake lines.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but it took a greater amount of time to stop the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact was aware of a voluntary service campaign by the manufacturer addressing the failure, in which the vin was included. the failure mileage was 56,699.
Brake concern - the brakes on my 2012 ford edge are very spongy, you must depress all the way to the floor in order to stop. i see the brake booster was replaced once under a owner notification program which technically isn't a recall but it is something ford provides as a customer satisfaction action. i feel the concern is related to the original program but the braking concern is still present and i am concerned that something bigger may be going on. i am pleading for assistance in getting this resolved because it would be costly out of pocket expense for me considering it is a known concern within ford.
My door ajar light is coming on. the dome light is staying on and the shirt to park is coming on when this happens. my brakes went out while i was driving down a busy highway. i was told that for extended the warranty on the brake bosster but this is not a recall.... i could have been killed! i would like to have know that my life was in danger before this happened.
Vehicle has approx. 51k miles and was showing no problems with brakes until this weekend. while driving out of town, i noticed the brake pedal didn't feel normal. i was having to press a little harder than usual. it got to the point where i had to mash down hard to get the vehicle to stop. i checked brake fluid, but reservoir was full. i was able to get back home safely but i did have some close calls when having to brake due to fact that it was taking longer distance to stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
Brakes functioned perfectly prior to depressing the brake pedal in traffic (on a major city street with the vehicle moving at approximately 40 mph) and the vehicle did not stop. the pedal was difficult to depress, but with extreme pressure, could be pushed all the way to the floor, resulting in a whistle or beep sound. the vehicle became (and remains almost 24 hours later) unsafe to drive because it cannot be stopped within a reasonable distance. internet research indicates this to be a known problem with the 2012 ford edge brake system, and references problems with brake booster. there should be a safety-related recall mandated for this vehicle, given the propensity for suddenly failed brakes to cause serious accidents or injuries.
Started having problems with braking hard pedal at around 63000 miles. at the same time the vehicle would shut down while stopped in traffic or while vehicle is in park mode.
When i place my foot on the brake to start the car, and i leave my foot on brake paddle there is a humming noise that happens, this also happens when i place car in reverse and leave my foot on brake. also there has been two times when i was stopping the car that the brake paddle went to the floor and the car was not stopping. once when i was driving across a parking lot and stopping to wait to pull out and once when i was pulling into a parking space. both of these incidents happened on the same day.
Brake booster failed with no prior warning. sitting at stop light, brake pedal went to the floor and car lundged forward into intersection. luckily we were not hit. contacted ford dealer and they informed me it is "very" common failure and it was covered under extended warranty negotiated by ford to prevent a recall? i see ford who won that negotiation.. it is nice that this won't cost me any money but it has or will surely cost someone their life(s). unbelievable that the dealer, nhtsa and ford know about this problem and no notice is sent to tens of thousands of families driving kids around in death traps? if that is the best you can negotiate at nhtsa, given a choice i'd rather have been notified of the issue rather than have ford pay for the repair. at least families could make the wise decision not to drive the car. why do we have government agencies if this is allowed? i see hundreds of complaints all over the web and no recall??? no notice?? how many other timebombs have been sucessfully negotiated to remain on our roads putting families at risk by manufacturers?
Brakes failed to engage, pedal was hard, pedal had to be pumped to get brakes to engage, dealer visited dec 23 2015, diagnosis power break booster failure, called dec 28 2015 to return for service, dealer claimed car fine to drive and left dealership with car on the 23rd?
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes failed without warning. the contact was able to coast until the vehicle came to a complete stop. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the vehicle was diagnosed that the brake booster failed. the vehicle was repaired.the manufacturer was notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
The car fails to stop and break pedal goes to the floor when applied. ford has a blurb out - 13n02 - extended warranty coverage on brake booster - about this but it's not a mandatory recall. i almost got killed going through an intersection yesterday when my vehicle failed to stop. do people need to die before they address this issue?
Pedal sometimes goes to floor and is slow to pump up again. more normal symptom is the break continues to slowly go to floor while stopped at a light. first though was air in the brakes but now believe the booster pump is inadequate or failing.
When i press brake pedal is hard and the vehicle dont want stop and when i try to press pedal twice still didn't stop corectly , brake rotor and pads still like 80%
