Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving in reverse, the brake pedal was applied, but the vehicle hesitated to stop and the pedal extended to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the mechanic replaced all four brake pads and machined the rotors. the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000....updated 01/27/16 *bf; 04/23/18*jb *cn
Backing down driveway in reverse the brakes failed to function properly. i had to stand on them (push with all my leg strength) and then all of a sudden they were working with the power assist. thankfully no one was coming down the street at the time. i'm certain this is a design or manufacturing flaw. it was similar to the time i broke a brake line and only had the rear drum brakes working and had to use the emergency brake to stop. to me the brakes are mission critical for safety and if ford won't admit it and have a recall then the ntsb must step in. this thread is loaded with similar complaints and something needs to be rectified before some one is killed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle as the brake system failed. the contact stated that when the brake pedal was applied, it was difficult to depress. the contact had to apply force to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was to be taken to a dealer where it was awaiting diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
Brakes did not initially respond when backing up. brake pedal was hard and took tremendous force to even begin to slow vehicle. same occurrence when moving forward at slow speed. at faster speed, brakes were very grabby and inconsistent. immediately concerned for safety and took to ford dealership. service tech. knew immediately what issue was just by description of symptoms. informed me car unsafe to drive and that repair would be covered by ford customer satisfaction program 13n02 to replace brake booster. this seems like a recall situation as evidenced by many other accounts of this brake failure by me and many others. i was just fortunate it didn't occur on highway the day before.
Brake pedal hard when pushed. makes whooshing sound when held to floor. brakes will grab when pushed hard. have noticed brake pedal is very hard to push when in reverse. it is hard to stop vehicle when backing up. at times after having cruise control set, brakes do not want to work at all.
The drivers side door alarm always goes off. constant dinging, and the interior lights remain on. i have had to replace 1 battery already. driving at night, especially in reverse, is terribly difficult with the lights on. the door is securely shut, however, that does not stop the alarm. the other issue i've had is the brake booster. i thought it was just the brakes so got those fixed and then stopping was near impossible. i had to push the pedal entirely to the floor to come to a slow stop. should i have had to come to a quick stop, that would have been impossible. my husband did some research to see that this is a common problem so we went to get it repaired. however, it was costly and could have been a total disaster. the car was only 3 years old at the time.
When driving my edge through the mountains of upstate new york, i went to slow down going down a mountainous road. the brake pedal got very hard to push, and the vehicle did not want to slow down properly. also noticed a hissing noise when the brake pedal was applied. checked the brake fluid at the first available exit and noticed the master cylinder was 1/2 empty. purchased new fluid and installed the needed amount in the master cylinder. the remainder of the 1400 mile trip the master cylinder did not show any loss of fluid, but the brakes are still not functioning properly. got home and brought the vehicle to the local lincoln/ ford dealership, as i purchased this vehicle new. they replaced the brake power booster under the extended brake warranty, and said the vehicle was ready to go. i test drove the vehicle and found the brakes still not properly functioning. still very low brake pedal, and soft also while stopped at light the pedal goes to the floor area. and they test drove the car they said. immediately went back to dealer and left the vehicle. they said they will ask ford if they will approve the brake master cylinder for replacement. vehicle is at the dealer as of today august 4, 2015. vehicle not safe to drive, collision is a very high risk with the vehicle as it now is. left the vehicle at the dealer as stated before and will not pickup the vehicle until properly repaired a second time. loosing faith in ford at this time, what other issues will occur in the future?
During normal driving hitting the break, the pedal feels hard and the vehicle doesn't want to stop. it just keeps moving foreword. i have to push harder on the break pedal to get the breaks to catch and stop the vehicle . i'm thinking check valve or booster.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving at 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle failed to stop. the contact had to depress the brake pedal multiple times to stop the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 76,285.
The brake rotors are causing the vehicle to vibrate when applying the brake at moderate speeds.
6-2-2015: i was driving down the road and was coming to a stop sign. i stepped on brakes and without warning the brakes did not engage. i went thru the stop sign on major roadway at 30 mph. i was hit by oncoming traffic traveling at 45 mph. the vehicle was totaled and 3 people, myself included, were injured. i owned the vehicle less than 2 months. my first ford in years. ford has known about a brake booster problem for years and has not recalled the vehicle. ford's fix is to extend the warranty 10 years or 150,000 miles for the brake booster. i found out about this on going problem with the edge after the vehicle was salvaged. i talked with my insurance company and their response was too bad for you. i wanted the brake booster checked out. ford should be recalling all the effected vehicles now, before somebody is killed. there have been over 50 complaints filed with nhtsa since 2012.
Vehicle suddenly and without any warning became incredibly difficult to bring to a stop. this occurred within 3 weeks of a dealer multi-point inspection/servicing. brakes seized up and i would have to slam down on them to get the car to stop. problem onset in a parking lot and i was unable to stop and actually struck a parking bumper. apparently my brake booster required replacement. unlike asserted in ford's 13n02 bulletin, this did affect ability to brake and onset without any warning. i believe this is a significant safety defect.
I was driving down the road and was coming to a stop sign by our local elementary school. the brakes felt like they were not working and that i was not going to stop! the only way i could get it to stop was to push very hard. thank the good lord that i didn't have to stop on a dime for a child walking across the school! the brakes are still that way today and it is not safe at all to drive. we took it to our local shop to verify that the brakes pads were ok, which they were. we have an appointment for our local ford shop. after reviewing many complaints, it sounds as though this is a known problem, (brake booster) and ford needs to have a recall on this. we have already spend $75 having the shop look at the brake pads, and now it will probably cost us another $300-$400, which is not right for a vehicle that has less than 45,000 miles on it and is a 2012. nhtsa needs to contact ford and make them recall this, as it sounds like there are so many out there with the same problem. this is a huge safety issue and someone can be killed over this! ford needs to be held accountable over this! read more at... http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2012/ford/edge/recalls/ *tr
Went to stop behind a truck at a red light and when i pushed down on the brake petal it felt spongy and my car would not stop until i pushed extremely hard. then my petal kept going down further to the floor. i place my car in park gear and continued to hold the brake petal down. my car began making a squealing noise which stopped when i let the brake petal up. i pulled to the right and drove a couple more blocks with brakes still spongy and not very responsive. i'm afraid to drive the car now and will have it towed in. i was suppose to drive to my cabin yesterday which has a 35 min drive through a canyon with a 500 foot cliff on one side. thankfully i did not go! *tr
Ford edge sport 2012. strange hissing sound when applying brakes. i have to apply slightly more pressure before vehicle comes to a complete stop. possible power brake booster failure as indicated by ford notice "customer satisfaction program 13n02." *tr
Dramatic and sudden low pressure in brakes. pitch sound when you put the brake to end. high risk of collusion! ford said no recall related exist, but more than that ford dealer formerly said is no problem. i went to pep boys (for a third verification) and the conclusion issue was the booster replacement needed. a lot of people having similar complaint in the same vehicle/model/year as i evidenced here in the nhtsa web page. an investigation on this is suggested. brakes are security!!!! thanks. *tr
Noticed while driving that the brakes felt and sounded different then they had - especially when trying to stop the vehicle, the brakes sounded as though they were releasing air and the pedal was either hard to press down or was too easily compressed - going all the way to the floor. had an appointment for service and asked that ford check the brakes. they checked them and reported back to me that there may be an issue with the booster (as they had experienced this same problem on other cars) but that safety wise the vehicle was fine. continued to drive that following week only to find that on several different occasions i was unable to stop the vehicle without pressing down as hard as possible on the brakes. luckily my speed while experiencing this malfunction was low enough that the vehicle stopped. after doing research i found that several other folks had this same issue - i'm beyond frustrated to know that ford is aware of the safety factors involved and that they have not issued a recall!! also, frustrated that i specifically asked for the brakes to be checked and that the service department did not take that opportunity to fix the problem. *tr
Almost ran my 2012 edge into the back of an 18 wheeler today with my son in the car when my brakes failed! i immediately went to express oil since the service dept at the dealership had already closed for the day. they said it was the brake booster and master cylinder causing the issue. since it should still be under warranty i elected to take it straight to the dealership first thing monday am. one of the guys followed me home to ensure we made it safely. my car stalled 3 times in a 10 mile radius, again 3 more times that i could've been the cause of an accident! i do not feel safe driving this car and it should not be having such issues at almost 3 years old with 57k miles on it! i have done a web search and this seems to be a common issue! why has there not been a recall? this a very serious issue that could've easily cost us our lives and possibly others today if i had not had the space to swerve to avoid collision! for the past few weeks the brakes have not felt "right", they felt "airy" and recently began making a high pitched squealing/hissing sound. they would go from being very stiff to sinking right into the floor. on several occasions i had to stomp on the brakes to get the car to stop. i'm terrified to drive the car even to the dealership monday morning. *tr
Periodically when applying the brakes they become very weak not stopping the vehicle unless brake is stomped on. two different drivers listed above. took to dealership today 09-29-14. they called back today to explain that the brake booster is defective and will take between 1-2 weeks because part is not in stock and they are back ordered. dealer nice and gave us rental. this almost caused accident today and on saturday as almost missed stopping and almost rolling into intersection. good thing my wife and i are strong and could get it stopped. we just hope that this does not cause someone to have a bad accident. should be recalled! *tr
Brakes make hissing noise and pedal is very hard while car is in park or drive. car does not stop normally and requires large space to coast to stop. brake booster failure. unsafe to drive without fear of collision. *tr
The brakes have been acting funny for the last week and on 8/22/2014 upon pulling into my garage i almost drove thru the wall into my master bedroom. i contacted elk grove ford the local dealer and took my vehicle into them the next day. i explained to them that when pressing on the brake it was either really stiff and it acted as if the brake pedal did not want to press down or it would go all the way to the floor and it would make a hissing sound. this sound when the pedal would go all the way to the floor would sound like the air being let out of a baloon. sometimes you would have to pump on the brake to get the car to stop. when i told this to the service advisor he actually laughed at me. aproximately 2 hours later i was told my car was ready. i was like great what was wrong with my brakes? he stated "it is the brake booster pump and it is on national backorder, we have no idea of how long it is going to be. it may be a month and it may be 6 months." this is putting my life in jeapordy having to drive a car with faulty brakes. *tr
Pulling out of parking space and noticed brakes felt different. not depressing to normal amount. pulled forward and when coming to stop sign again noticed the difference in the brake pedal movement but now also the vehicle did not stop as quickly as it used.to. it slowed but was never able to get it to a complete stop, seemed like it coasted to a stop. after driving a few miles brakes returned to normal. next day experienced the same thing except now the vehicle does not come to a complete stop, it coasts to a stop at all times now. also have to put extreme pressure to get the vehicle to begin to slow down, much less stop the car. research online shows many others experiencing the same problem. will be taking vehicle to dealership on next day off. *tr
Brakes started becoming difficult to apply regardless of speed, etc. most often most difficult to apply after the car was shut off for a period of time. took the car to the dealer and they replaced the booster. service representative attempted to back the car out of the service bay the booster failed. couldn't stop the car so he put it in drive and it lunged forward and hit a car lift, creasing the front bumper, before it stopped. attempted to replace the booster and the dealer said it "failed" in the box. number three booster was installed and it failed. master cylinder also failed. the dealer claims the new master cylinder and the fourth booster is working fine. car in the body shop getting the front bumper repaired. ford regional customer care representative was to call me and three days have passed without any response. no one care tell me ford has corrected anything. all they are doing is throwing parts with an attempt it will fix itself. *tr
When i apply pressure to the brakes the car would not stop. it would slow down, but never come to a complete stop. we were just at the dealership getting our vehicle serviced and received no mention of a recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal became extremely hard to depress and the vehicle made a loud hissing sound when backing up a boat. the contact mentioned that the brakes failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the brake pedal still fell spongy whenever it was depressed. the manufacturer was not made of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
Brakes were really hard to press to get car to stop. frequency of occurrence increased. key incident was difficulty stopping at stop sign when a family was crossing street in front of me. had to press really hard on brakes to stop. brought into dealer on 8/19/2014. told me it was issue with booster and part is on back order, so had to give me a rental car for 2-3 weeks (had premium warranty service). based on the number of problems i see on this site, when is ford going to issue a recall? we are talking brakes!!!!!!! does someone have to die or be injured before something is done? *tr
Applied the brakes and i was not stopping the vehicle. i heard a hissing noise and the brake pedal was extremely stiff but i was unable to apply enough pedal force to actuate the brakes. i then pumped the brakes and the pedal almost went to the floor and the vehicle brakes applied but way too much and the car came to an abrupt stop. i took the car to a ford dealer and they said it was the brake booster. dealer drove car and determined it was unsafe to drive. ford regional said there was a program for the brake booster and that according to the ford tech team the car was safe to drive until a repair part could be located. this is not the case. the brakes do not work. both i and the dealer service staff agree that there is a major issue involving the brake booster making the car unsafe. car has been at dealer since 7/31/14. no parts available and car is undrivable. how this car passed fmvss 135 and 136 is beyond me. *tr
July 31, 2014 - i ran a red light when the brakes on my 2012 edge failed. it felt as if there was zero pressure & the brake pedal sunk all the way to the floor. after pumping them, or really "standing" on the pedal, the car finally slowed down. after this incident, there was an audible "hiss" when the brakes were applied. i had noticed for several weeks prior to july 31st, my brakes felt "different". when pressure applied for push button start, they felt very stiff. at other times, when applying pressure to slow or stop completely, considerably more pressure was necessary than had been previously adequate. the next day (august 1st), our local ford service center confirmed that my model was under the extended warranty for the brake vacuum booster. however, the part is on back order & there is no eta for a new part. i expect my car to be there several weeks, if not months. why is this item not a national recall?! this is a serious, known, issue that could result in serious injury or death. *tr
When i went to step on brakes they went all the way to the floor. was making a squishy noise as well. had to replace the power booster? *tr
I was unable to come to a complete stop and hit a cone in nyc. after, it was extremely difficult to come to a complete stop. the car was able to slow down but it took time. i drove slow and away from others. the brakes were hard and made noise when i pushed down on the brakes. when i went to the dealer, they informed me that ford has an extended warranty on the part and i asked why wasn't the part recalled if it put me and my family in harms way. why wasn't i notified prior to losing full braking power? i am thankful that i noticed the problem right away and my family and i are safe. i have concerns for others who may be at a greater speed when the brakes fail or have to stop unexpectedly. in addition, my car has returned to the dealership for service several times for not locking into the park position. it is not safe and again, i have concerns for my family and others. can this car move if it isn't secured in the park position? i have voiced my concerns with ford but have been given the run around by everyone i have encountered. these are safety issues and no one seems to care. everyone is nice and apologizes but they need to take care of these safety concerns for their customers and for the general public. *tr
I purchased a 2012 edge sel used from a ford dealer with 28,900 miles on it in june. while on vacation with the family this month (july) was backing vehicle up and when i applied a significant amount of brake pedal pressure, the vehicle did not stop but only slowed. i then had to stomp on the brake to stop the vehicle and avoid hitting a parked car behind me. the issue got worse over the next two weeks, so i took it to a ford dealer who told me that it was a bad brake booster. they installed a "new" one under csp 13n02 and said it was "good-to-go". did not even get off the lot when i noticed there was still the same problem with the brakes. drove it back into the service area carefully. ford tech said the new brake booster they put on was bad as well! really? is anyone from ford doing audits on that vendor??? so now i have to wait until august 15th which is the estimated date of repair completion as the "new" brake booster is on back order nation wide. my car will now be sitting on the ford lot almost as long as it was sitting in my garage. this is an immediate safety issue and needs to be addressed as such. *tr
I was driving around 55 mph on the freeway and went to apply the brakes. the brake pedal went straight to the floor with minimal slowing of car. if i really needed to stop the car i would have been in an accident. i used the emergency brake to control car. went to dealer and they stated this was a common issue with ford edge with the power brake booster pump failing. this hazard could have resulted in a significant accident for me had it failed when i needed a immediate stop to car. i sent ford this same feedback today via the ford service feedback form. my car is sitting in the shop for multiple weeks since the part is on national backorder. this tells me this issue is a trend in the car model and more proactive action should be taken by ford. makes me very concerned how close i was to a possible significant accident with possible injuries. *tr
June 15, 2014 n. jersey was sitting in driveway in park and when i pressed on my brakes i could hear a teapot whistle sound everytime i pressed down on them. other times while driving it was hard for the vehicle to stop and i had to press several times before i would hit the car in front of me. not feeling very safe in my 2012 ford edge limited. this is a known issue that should be resolved with the customer service program csp-13n03. this is a manufacturing defect that involves very sensible parts of the vehicle and should be addressed. peoples lives are at stake. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the brakes suddenly malfunctioned and more pressure had to be applied to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle, creating a longer braking distance. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake booster was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 44,000.
After one and a half months of driving my newly purchased 2012 ford edge sel, the brakes were hard and i literally had to strain my foot and legs to the pulp and give it all the pressure i could to get it to stop and to avoid hitting something or running into someone. it was the most horrible and stressful experience i ever had driving and especially since the car had been just purchased less than two months when this started happening. what a nightmare it was!!!!! the car is currently at the ford place being repaired and has been there since friday, july 11, 2014. they had to order a power booster and replace that and whatever else that was needed to make the brakes work properly. there is a lot they are not sharing with me and after reading other complaints and reports concerning this very same model, i can see why they are being so extremely vague with me when i ask questions. another issue is that the vehicle is supposed to be a fuel economy vehicle and even though it doesn't cost that much to re-fuel, it sure does need refueling more frequently than i ever expected. i only do local driving mostly to and from work or to the local neighborhood stores and so forth, and as soon as i accelerate, i can see the gas gauge just going down, down, down. i am beginning to think with all due respect that for a vehicle that cost as much as they sold it to me for, i may have purchased a lemon or the edge is just not all that it is cracked up to be. highly disappointed and extremely frustrated. now i can understand why i have heard that ford stands for fix or repair daily. *tr
Bought 2012 ford edge it only had 24,000 miles on it, after one month the brakes stopped responding when parking the car almost caused accident more than three times. also when pressing the break i could hear the hissing noise like there is air leak in the brakes. you would have to really push hard to stop the car. took the car to the dealer they said brake booster is bad and its on a backorder nationwide. this is a very serious issue that requires immediate attention. *tr
Had this 2012 ford edge for a little over a month and then was backing out of parking space and brake pedal was very hard. had to stand on it to stop, didn't think suv was going to stop. did it 2 more times on way home (3 blocks). next day i made a service appt. but brakes worked fine during my regular driving. was going to cancel appt. thinking it was a fluke but then went out to get lunch and it did it again. very scary feeling! the dealership could not duplicate the problem and said there was nothing they could do until they could "feel it". i told them about the "brake vacuum booster" problem on the internet and was told not to believe everything i read on internet. they kept suv overnight and next day brakes worked fine again so there was nothing they could do. i went to pick up suv the second evening and as i hit the brakes before i even pulled out of lot it did it again! i backed up and thought i was going to go thru dealership wall. service dept. was closed so salesman drove it back & forth on the lot. he was able to "feel it". i also gave them a print out of these brake vacuum booster problems. they kept suv again and said they would get on it 1st thing in am. again they could not duplicate the problem, after several phone calls they actually took it in the shop and tested brake vacuum booster. called me at 3:30 to tell me brake vacuum booster was bad and they had to order the part. my vacation started the next day and we planned on taking the edge on 10 hour drive. i had to get assertive and they took brake vacuum booster off of another edge versus giving me another suv to drive for a week. so far the brakes have worked fine. the manager told me they don't always have time to research these problems on the internet, i told him i did the research for them! i do love the edge and hope there are no more problems. *tr
Stop and go traffic. stopped at traffic signal 4 cars back. traffic started moving on green light, i tapped my brakes 3x, 4th time no brakes. i rolled into the back of a jeep slowly, 2mph, while standing on my brake pedal with no hydraulic pressure at all. we moved to the shopping mall parking lot, brake pressure was restored. happened only when pumping brakes repeatedly at slow rate of speed. brought vehicle to dealer. told brake booster would have to be replaced. customer satisfaction program # 13n02.completed 7/29/14. previously ran vehicle health report through mysync = brakes ok. feb'14 - oil change at dealership. asked about letter i received about brake booster but was told "i wasn't ready for that just yet. i would feel spongy brakes before it needed replacing". they drove my vehicle into bay and tech said brakes were fine. obviously not. brakes failed without warning. 77% increase in premiums due to merit rating board, insurance agent said they could do nothing about surcharge (10 yr old jeep bumper that was already rusted out) .

Some times during normal traffic the brake pedal feels hard to press and does not stop my vehicle. some other times the pedal feels spongy and without braking power. at the same time as pressing the pedal i could hear a hissing noise sometimes with a "teapot whistle" like sound. this is a known issue that should be resolved with the customer service program csp-13n03. however, my ford dealer in colombia south america says that although the vehicle shows all the symptoms and complies with the manufacture dates, the program is only applicable for ford customers in the us and not the rest of the world. this is a manufacturing defect that involves very sensible parts of the vehicle and should be addressed globally. remember lives are at stake. *tr
Backing out of my driveway and depressed the brake as i reach the bottom of my driveway and it was hard to press and didn't not stop my vehicle. i had to press really hard on the brake pedal to get it to stop. proceeded down the street, reach a stop sign and pressed the brake pedal and it, again didn't not want to stop. i had to pump the brakes and then the pedal went to the floor and began making a squealing/hissing sound then my vehicle stalled. restarted my vehicle and then it does the very same thing at the next stop sign i reached. drove back home in fear of a major braking failure causing an accident. researched the problem and discovered that there is a problem with the brake booster. called the dealership and was upset at the lack of urgency regarding this issue. already went through the fuel line recall and now this and this isn't even a recall, which should be after seeing the amount of incidents regarding the braking issue. this may be my first and last ford. very upset that ford has not created a recall on this very clear issue. man up, ford. this is a big issue! *tr
The brake booster has failed,, it appears that the problem is happening to many edges as i have researched on google,.. i believe the problem should be looked into based on the amount of incidents. *tr
The brakes began to make a hissing noise every time they were applied. the edge would die when sitting at stop lights and my brakes had to be pumped multiple times to get the vehicle to stop. the problem worsened and my "service info trac system" light would periodically come on. i have replaced the brake booster for 536.00 now to find out the master cylinder is also defective and must be replaced ...which is another 300.00..................i have had close calls trying to stop my car , especially if there's a hill. i am very very unhappy with ford and my edge at this point. ford should fix this crap under defects!!!!! no more fords for me ...this will be my last! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the brakes were applied and the vehicle failed to decelerate. the contact had to pump the brakes continuously in order for the brakes to function. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test, who stated that the brake booster had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. the dealer replaced the brake booster. the contact did not call the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 42,000. the vin was not available.
When stepping on the brakes to stop, it felt like the car would not stop and i would need to press harder to engage the brakes. if at a stop light with foot on brake for a period of time, the engine would stall. the problem was a leak in the brake booster, which because of my miles on the car over 36,000, it was not covered by warranty. *tr
Sept 2013 - brake pedal went to floor in reverse with very little response. moving forward almost no response from brakes and almost hit a car crossing in front. at the ford dealer, the component test master cylinder failed and also noted with brake pedal whistle noise when pedal completely on the floor. replaced the booster and master cylinder under warranty. july 2014 - brake problem intermittently recurs. brake pedal sometimes goes all the way to the floor when the car is started. ford dealer could not replicate problem. july 2015 - at car start, brake is very firm then slowly goes all the way to floor. this occurs about every other time the car is started. this appears to be the same issue described in the recent ford f-150 investigation of the electric vacuum assist pump.
On various dates, moving at various speeds (from pulling into or out of a parking spot to getting off the freeway) i began to notice that when applying the brakes, the edge would not slow down as it should. at times, i became afraid that the vehicle would rear-end another vehicle or i would hit someone in a cross walk. i had to press very hard on the brakes and even then, it was difficult to stop the vehicle. at first, i thought i was just being paranoid, but when this occurred 3 times in one day on 9/17/13, we brought the car into the local ford dealership to have them inspect it right away. later that night, a ford mechanic called and explained that the "brake booster" was defective and pressure was not being applied adequately to stop the car. we bought this vehicle new in april 2012. i see no reason why this part should have gone bad in just 1 year.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the brakes were depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. the contact mentioned that the brake pedal would harden and would not properly decline. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 26,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the brakes exhibited a loud noise and hesitated to properly engage. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 18,000. *tr
My 2012 ford edge a year old and only 9,350 miles had a catastrophic brake failure while i was trying to go down steep hill. luckily that i realized the problem immediately so i did not hurt others or myself. i proceeded to consult a local mechanic and he stated that i have a booster issue and i should not drive my car. i have towed my car to the nearest dealer the following day (today). i have been waiting to hear from the dealer service advisor since 10 am and no one has contacted me. i finally decided to stay on hold so i can talk to him in person. i have been on hold more than 20 minutes. after searching on google i realized this is a recurring problem and ford never issued any warning to inform its customer of the potential life damaging situation. i am willing to bet that ford is aware of this issue but the cost of recall or notification is worth more than catastrophic human life loss due to brake failure. *tr
