Problems with 2012 Ford Edge ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Drivers side door ajar light stays on the whole time during driving conditions on my 2012 ford edge, the dome light also stays on making it very difficult to drive the car in the night time. when parked the dome lights stay on during this period also. this started happening on a fulltime basis in sept 2016

Vehicle says that the drivers side door is ajar but the door is closed and latched. causing the vehicle not to lock and the interior lights to stay on.

The front door ajar light started coming on and staying on no matter how you slammed the door shut (it was not ajar). when stopping it would say to put it in park and shut the door. when parked the inside lights would remain on, draining the battery, ruining the battery.

Rear passenger door ajar light stays on when door is closed. started yesterday (august 30). door is shut but light will not turn off. i researched this and found that it is a common problem with this car but no recall has been issued. i cannot afford to spend more money on something that should be recalled. i just brought the car in for another electrical problem (passenger airbag light was on) two weeks ago which cost over $400 to repair. please see my previous complaint regarding the airbag light 10899708.

Drivers door ajar indicator on dash/warning light. door is securely closed, door ajar light and audible indicator remains on but can be muted by selecting ok. "shift to park" light/indicator comes on when stopped and starting again. door locks will not auto/manual lock, unlock automatically.

While driving home from work last week, the drivers door ajar alarm sounded, the interior lights came on and the door locks disengaged. i pulled into a parking lot to re-close the door; which silenced the alarm; but the interior lights stayed on. as i pulled out and got back up to the speed the locks would normally engage, the drivers door alarm sounded again, interior lights remained on and locks never engaged, even when pressing the lock button. pulled over a 2nd time - with the same result. the third time i pulled off the road, i shut the vehicle off and sat for about 5 minutes. again, the same plus the shift into park alarm also sounded as soon as i reached speed when the locks should engage. i continued home listening to 2 alarms blare, the interior lights limiting my view and the doors refusing to lock. when i got home, the interior lights stayed on for almost an hour after i got out of the vehicle; it wasn't until i pulled the exterior door handle a couple times that the lights went out. the next morning, my drive to work was uneventful; that evening on my way home, both alarms are going off, interior lights are on and doors will not lock. on the second evening, i noticed the door ajar warning never came on after i started the vehicle until i reached the speed the door locks should have engaged.

Driver door ajar light remains on at all times, not sure if door is closed all of the way or not, dome lights remain on as well. this happens while parked whether keys are in the ignition or not and also while driving.

Light comes on saying driver door is open, come to a stop starts dinging shift to park. car cant be locked at times, and will not lock while driving. ligts will stay on running down the battery if you dont turn them off inside the vehicle. this will be the second time taking to dealership, ford customer care has been involved in both instances, cost to repair is over $600.

The drivers side door indicator intermittently will not recognize the door is closed. it will unlock all the doors and say "shift to park". the doors unlocking and not staying locked is dangerous especially with children! in looking on the internet this seems to be a common problem that ford needs to recall and fix.

When we shut the drivers door we get a door ajar light.it remains on even after several attempts to shut the door. and when it is parked and locked the lights will flash and the rear hatch will open , and the hatch has opened when the car is being driven when i say driven i mean driving down the hi-way very unsafe!!

Door ajar warning will not shut off when door is closed. this causes dome light to stay on causing dangerous condition while reversing at night and killing the battery while parked over night. the "shift to park" warning will sound while driving, and the door locks will not lock causing a major safety issue.

Door ajar warning light comes on when door is closed. with that problem it leaves lights on and draining battery. i had vehicle repaired at ford dealer at a cost of $368.00. dealer stated that this problem is somewhat common but no ford recall issued.

The rear left door ajar warning keeps coming on even when the door is closed. the warning will pop on while the car is in motion. the lights also pop on when there is no key in the ignition and the car is parked in the driveway. i have already had to replace my battery due to this issue.

Door ajar sensor failure: 2012 ford edge left rear passenger "door ajar" sensor fails to indicate when door is shut/locked indicating it may still be open/unlocked. the sensor failure affects the following: - alarm/intrusion detection: security system does not set properly and will activate randomly if set. attempting to set alarm results in three abnormal horn blasts indicating a door is ajar. in this state, alarm will sound randomly which is highly disruptive to neighbors. it is unsure whether this model can lock without security system enabled, forcing the vehicle to be left unlocked. - electric / battery: dome lights, and other dash indicators do not secure manually and cause severe battery drainage. expensive battery replacements. - safety: small children in car seats, unsure if doors are properly secured, doubt and peace of mind in ford. the issue was discovered approximately august 2016. vehicle was parked. at first the door could be opened and re-shut with force and sensor would self correct, but ultimately it would fail altogether. this is a known issue. ford, where is the recall!?

Door is ajar drive front door indicator. had it repaired at 36,000 miles. issue returned at 51,000 miles. causes confusion while driving and leading to a distracted driver.

Door ajar light remains on while driving, dings each time when i accelerate after coming to a stop, message is "shift to park".

Door ajar light stays "on" even when door is closed with car in driving mode. started happening with 39k miles on vehicle. took to dealership for repair on 11/10/14 for repair cost of $272. repair only lasted 15 months and now same problem is back. dealership will not repair for free since past 6 month repair date. it's time for ford to stand up & issue a recall for this problem since it is a safety issue as others have stated.

The driver side door stays ajar when door is shut. resulting the vehicle not to lock the doors when car is in motion. very dangerous for young kids.

Drive door sensor is malfunctioned. will say "driver door ajar" even when shut. this can happen when i get in my car at the end of the day to drive home, in the morning on the way to work, or even while i'm driving! then it will constantly beep and say "shift to park" if i'm coming to a stop. the door is clearly shut, and no matter how many times i open and re-shut the door the sensor will not recognize it. because of this, i am not able to lock my car, or the alarm will go off at some point because it thinks the door is opening. sometimes i'm not even able to lock to doors even if i wanted to, which is not at all safe!

Door ajar light stays on, interior lights stay on, doors willnot lock. taken to dealer 12/31/15 they cleaned and oiled door sensor and it lasted 6 mo.. it needs repaced before battery runs down or something major happens.

Drivers door ajar warning when the door is closed. does not happen all the time but is getting worse. the issue happened before the vehicle was 2 years old and was fixed under warranty. now it is happening again at the 4 year make and not under warranty. this part should last the normal life span of the vehicle and barely lasts two years. very poor design and quality of this part makes me hate this vehicle and ford in general. lots of other complaints filed regarding this matter and no need for me to repeat the safety issues.

My 2012 ford edge continues to alert as i am driving that my driver side door is ajar when in reality it is not. i have video of this because it distracts me as i am driving due to the red alert posted on the panel along with the high pitch beep/alarm as the warning. i than have to continually hit the reset button with my left thumb in order to silence the warning until it starts all over again within seconds. while researching this problem, it seems that it is very common within these ford vehicles. it would be greatly appreciated if this could be addressed as a recall. this has been a problem with my vehicle for many months now. one stage observation is that the aforementioned malfunction becomes occurs much more often once the temperature outside exceeds 65 degrees or higher for some reason. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Door ajar sensor shows open when door is closed. even after slamming door. sensor shows door open any time the car is started.

Door ajar dash light remains on even after closing the door multiple times. this prevents the doors from locking while driving and is a hazard for small children who ride in the back and have access to open the door.

My "door ajar" signal won't turn off for my drivers door. i have bought three new batteries and been stranded three times due to power drain when lights and sound system would not shut down due to this issue. in addition to money and time, it is a safety issue because the doors won't lock while driving and the interior light remain on while driving.

I purchased my low mileage edge from local ford dealer. experiencing periodic issue with car transmission lag or jerking when accelerating from stop, as at a stop sign or pulling out of parking lots. took to dealer several times, they can't duplicate issue, no codes. more recently the backup camera has intermittently failed. no backup guidelines are present, sometimes backup camera is visible, then goes black, other times doesn't work at all. now my brakes are giving me issues. the pedal will either be very hard to press, as in losing power braking when a vehicle dies. then the pedal may go all the way to the floor. did experience something similar while in fast food drive thru, foot on brake, then brake losing pressure and pedal depressing to floor. i put the vehicle in park, then the "service advance track: light came on briefly. this vehicle is not safe and once i make a list of all of the service bulletins it's going to the dealer for repair. last time i went the idiot at the service counter put that i said the vehicle "stalled". never did i say that happened. i said there was a lag in acceleration and the feeling like a transmission jerking into gear. piece of junk ford, don't know what i was thinking buying it. all of these complaints on this site, amazing there aren't more accidents. shame on you ford! you used to make quality products.

Door ajar indicator sensor fails. despite the drivers door being fully closed the indicator pops up on screen. dome lights stays on, and doors remain unlocked. did find out it's not how hard you close the door. it seems to be the number of time which is random.

Door ajar alarm on when door is closed dome light stays on door wont lock

Car alarm goes off randomly while stationary. it's happened during the day and at night. this has happened 3 times already since april 1, 2016.

There is an instrument panel alarm that says "driver door ajar" that remains despite repeated opening and closing of the driver's door. we paid almost $600 to have the sensor replaced about a year ago, and now it is doing the same thing. the dealership wants to charge us again to fix it. it is a safety issue. not only does this alarm cause constant blinking and warning tones when driving, but the interior lights stay on at night for about 1 minute after driving, and i've had the car battery discharge twice when exiting the vehicle and trying to lock up for the night. if you slam the door repeatedly, it sometimes will go off, but there have been many times when i've opened and slammed the drivers door over 10 times, and i just have to live with the alarm, noise, and distraction. it has been an issue - this second time - for about a month.
