We have classified the 156 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Ford edge suddenly lost power ( vehicle still running). no response from accelerator even though vehicle was still running. had to roll to side of road (very unsafe). a warning light briefly came on showing ":awd off" and after a few seconds warning changed the "wrench" icon. this happened a second time just a few hours later. i scheduled appointment with dealer for the next day, and it happend again on the way to the dealer. dealer ran codes, all passed and couldn't find issue. it happened again 10 miles after picking up from the dealer. rescheduled for next day with dealer. issue happened yet again on the way to the dealer. once again dealer could not find issue or any error codes. in summary, it happened 5 times in less than 30 miles of driving. this vehicle is not safe to drive.
Vehicle lost power pulling out in traffic (so glad i didnt get hit), would not accelerate and the yellow wrench appeared on the instrument panel. only way to correct problem was to restart engine (this happened 3 times trying to get home). the third time the service engine soon light came on and i was able to pull the codes and had a p2111 and a p2112. after looking into this issue it looks really common why would they not recall it like the ford fusion?
Certified pre-owned 2011 ford edge limited awd. purchased in nov. 2014. on monday, june 8, 2015 as i was driving at 55 mph, a light came on on the left hand side of the instrument panel. the light said "awd off" and had a little wrench symbol on it. the car abruptly lost power and i just coasted out of the way of traffic and onto the side of the road because there was no shoulder. i tried to press the gas pedal but nothing happened--there was no acceleration. my vehicle essentially "died" without warning in traffic. weather conditions were sunny about 85 degrees. the radio and ac worked, but the gas pedal did not. the vehicle sounded like it was going to stall out and was sputtering as i coasted. i put the vehicle in "park" and turned the vehicle off. i waited several minutes and restarted the vehicle. vehicle seemed to work ok and no warning lights came back on afterwards. i called the dealership and arranged for me to have my car inspected for the cause of this malfunction. i paid $111.30 for the vehicle to be hooked to a diagnostic machine but the dealership was unable to get any "codes" from a diagnostic reading nor could the dealer replicate the warning light to come on. on june 24, 2015 the same issue happened again. i took a photo of the light on the dash, sent it to dealership. third time happened on friday, july 10, 2015 and i was on the highway in the passing lane and had to coast across the slow lane to get out of the way of traffic so i wouldn't cause an accident. again, i took photos of the odometer and the "awd off" light and sent to dealership. dealership sys without a code from diagnostic machine, they can't tell what is wrong. fourth time happen last night, july 14, 2015. this is a huge issue as from researching on the internet, a lot of other ford edge owners experienced the same problem! please help! i feel like i'm getting no help!
My wife and i were driving with our two young children (4-year-old, and six months) our 2011 ford edge and without any notice, the car jerked forward and we lost all power in the accelerator. fortunately, i was able to pull off to the side of the road without getting in an accident, but was almost rear-ended by the car behind me. the power train wrench was flashing and said to consult the manual, so we did. following the instructions, i shut the car off and restarted it. it took a lot longer to turn over, but it eventually did. we called our dealership and they said that i could bring the car in today (four days later). the edge did this two more times over the weekend so i googled the issue and found this site. i printed off the first four pages of complaints and took it with me to the dealership. they wouldn't even look at it. they told me that "had to recreate the issue" or they wouldn't be able to do anything to fix it. they proposed that i let them keep the vehicle for five days and let them try it every day. absolutely not. with all these documented issues and ford being unwilling to do anything about it unless it happens to them, if they can't get it to happen today, we will be done with ford forever. i'm highly disturbed by the amount of issues that are clearly documented here without any kind of recall or, at mimimum, guidance given to ford techs about this issue.
6/4/2015 i was driving on the highway 70 mph and there was a slight jolt, the wrench light came on and i lost all acceleration. i was able to pull over and put it in park. i would press on the gas pedal and there was nothing. the car would idle very rough. after i would turn it off and back on i was able to drive it again. spoke with the dealership and they said it could just be bad gas. they said unless another light comes on other than the wrench there would be nothing they can do in order to diagnose the problem. this would periodically happen every other day until this weekend it happened to me 14 times just this weekend... 3 of these times were this morning while driving 70 mph on my way to work. i was driving downhill and no accelerator and look in the mirror and there was an 18 wheeler behind me who jackknifed around my car since there was no shoulder to pull over on. this is a very very big problem! talked to the dealership this morning and they can't get me in for 4 days. they said regardless what the problem is, it would not be covered under warranty since there was no recalls. i'm finding this is a problem with many ford edges...
Our family was driving on a heavily traveled bridge at 40mph and the vehicle immediately lost all power and idled roughly, forcing us to travel on the bridge at just a few miles an hour with our four-way flashers on until we reached the side of the road. a wrench appeared on the computer screen with the message awd off. my husband turned the vehicle off and then back on and it ran fine until we drove it again and same thing happened. we are fearful for our safety and beg ford to recall. i visited several websites and saw way too many consumers with this same serious safety issue. we are going to get it evaluated by a mechanic tomorrow and pray that we are able to safely drive it to the garage.
On april 11, 2015, the throttle body assembly on the engine of my 2011 ford edge failed while in heavy traffic at highway speed on a 6-lane highway. i was traveling in the inside lane when the failure occurred. there was no power to the engine, and i coasted quickly across 2 lanes to a right turn lane. fortunately, everyone reacted positively to my emergency flashers as i decelerated. on monday, april 13, the local ford dealership repaired the car. after returning home, i checked the internet for information on this failure mode and was surprised to read that ford had a couple years earlier settled a nhtsa complaint for several ford models that exhibited the problem my car experienced. the ford edge was not part of the settlement. further research revealed other ford edges with the same problem as mine. apparently, ford won a partial settlement on the throttle body issue. the failure mode is as dangerous as the general motors ignition switch failure. both the gm and ford failure modes result in the same manner ' complete loss of power and a hope to make it safely to stop. recognizing that others are having problems similar to me, shouldn't the nhtsa reexamine this ford problem. in my case i'm just thankful my wife wasn't driving the car. she was with me when the failure occurred and claimed she would not have known how to react. do you really want to wait until we have as many deaths as gm experienced with their ignition switch failure before acting? *tr
I was driving vehicle up a slight grade at 30mph. engine power suddenly dropped to an idle rpm. it felt like it was running on 1 cylinder and very rough. i was able to "creep" the car to the side of road. pressing on the accelerator in neutral or drive had no effect. a "wrench" warning icon appeared on the indicator panel. shutting off and restarting the car allowed us to drive home. this occurred two times within 2 miles. the car will be taken to the dealer today for repairs. this same scenario (less than 270 miles prior) occurred as my wife accelerated away from our home 3 weeks prior. the owners manual indicated it was an awd issue. my car does not have that feature.the car was taken to the dealer who indicated it was a transmission problem covered by a service bulletin and reprogrammed the transmission computer. prior to these engine incidents the car had acted odd when shifting, as though it popped in and out of gear. this is a safety concern and so far we have been lucky because it happened each time in low traffic conditions. *tr
I was driving and all of a sudden the vehicle started idling high and sputtering. then the check engine light came on. the engine just shut off. luckily there was no one behind me. i could have been rear-ended. this is third time this has happened. the first time it happened i took it to ford and they said there was no code to tell them what was wrong with it. they replace the throttle body sensor and check engine light was gone, but a few hours later it came back on and it stalled on me again. i wasted a couple of hundred dollars to end up right back where i was before with a very unsafe vehicle. if i could afford to get another vehicle, i would. i am afraid to drive this vehicle. something has to be done before someone is injured or killed. *tr
Coming out of an underground parking garage and the vehicle suddenly stopped and i received an orange wrench error message stating awd off. the vehicle would not engage in a drivable gear. i had to drift to a spot where i could be out of the line of traffic, at which time i stopped the vehicle/brakedp; shifted into park, and turned off the ignition. upon re-starting the vehicle, it appeared to resolve. upon doing research, i recently took the vehicle to the ford service dept and they reset the transmission computer as i had been experiencing slips or rough starts when driving/accelerating over the last 2-3 months. the incident described above occurred approximately 2.5 weeks after that service visit. *tr
Throttle body keeps faulting out and loosing power to the vehicle acceleration. causing me a lot of trouble and i am a single father trying to raise for kids. i am very upset with ford right now!! *tr
I was driving my 2011 ford edge down a busy high traffic area going 45 mph and my car started shaking the tool light came on the dashboard and it just stopped in the middle of the road, someone almost rear ended me people were honking, i still had all power but my acceleration just stopped, pulled over to the side with the emergency flashes on turned the car off and sat for a minute i restarted it and drove it home, it did the exact same thing two days later. i called my extended warranty company and proceeded to take it to the dealership. i told them after doing research i thought it was the throttle body. they checked it out and said it was a bad mass sensor, fixed it and said i was good to go. i picked up the car and two days later it did the same thing, car shook, tool light came on, then i lost acceleration, coasted into a parking lot, happened 2 more times again. i took it back to the dealership they said no codes were coming up so they couldn't fix anything. i said well obviously something is wrong, i suggested the throttle body they said no codes came up, nothing they can do, again i said something is wrong its not safe to drive! he said unless the code comes up ford will not let them replace anything. i asked him what the solution is he had nothing. he said unless it happens while they test drove it there is nothing they can do. so im stuck with a faulty car with no solutions. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the wrench warning light and the awd off warning mesasge illuminated as the vehicle decelerated independently. the contact mentioned that shortly after the vehicle stalled. after restarting the engine the vehicle operated as normal. the contact indicated that the failure had occurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 37,000. pam updated 12/30/14*lj the consumer stated since reporting the failure the vehicle was repaired. it was found that the throttle body was the cause of the failure. updated 9/25/15 *js
While driving on the highway at 70 mph, the car suddenly jerked and quickly lost speed, and the wrench light came on. i attempted to press the gas pedal, however nothing reacted, the car wouldn't accelerate. after turning on the hazard lights, i was able to creep to the shoulder and on then onto the off-ramp where i restarted the car. initially everything worked; i was able to accelerate, but shortly after the jerking/loss of speed happened again. after calling my husband to meet me where i was stranded, i called my insurance company to active roadside assistance. our car was towed to a local ford shop where they told us that our electronic fuel throttle failed and had to been replaced at just about $900 (plus the tow). *tr
During driving my 2011 ford edge the engine stalled without warning. the stall occurred at an approximate driving speed of 30 mph in the middle of the roadway. a light depicting a wrench shown on the instrument cluster display along with a message to consult manual. at the time this happened, i turned off the car and restarted it to see if i could get it going again before i got hit by a car. the car did start and then drove normally. i looked in the manual and found the wrench icon to indicate a powertrain defect. since this was a driving hazard, i had it towed to the dealer. the onboard computer was accessed and the code c-p2111 was diagnosed. i was told that this was a defective throttle body and that it would be replaced. a new part was installed and i have driven the car approximately 250 miles and it so far has not repeated the same stalling. it does not, however, maintain consistent rpms while idling. a couple of times they dipped down low enough that i thought the car was going to die at a traffic light. i took it back to the dealer and they said they could find nothing wrong. i disagree--i didn't have this problem prior to the installation of the throttle body. i am making this complaint because this issue is a severe problem that could cause someone to lose their life if the car stalled on the freeway. when it stalls, the car doesn't slowly coast along, it abruptly stops. this may be the same part that is in other ford vehicles for which a recall has been made, but so far there has been no bulletin on the ford edge for the throttle body defect. *tr
My edge driving along about 35mph and warning lite came on awd off w/a wrench lite, quick jerk then unable to accelerate. was able to get to side of road @ 1mph engine was shaking car stalled. sat for about 15/20min started right up.. but know also have a very loud humming noise. *tr
While driving through an intersection, vehicles stalled. "awd fail" light exhibited. turned off ignition and restarted. second event, same circumstances, again had to coast to side of intersection to restart. same indications. took to dealership and diagnosed as throttle body failure. had to be replaced. concerns: (1) safety (2) throttle body should not be failing with this few miles (3) ford forum indicates that this is a recurring issue with other ford edge vehicles. but there has been no recall or extended warranty. *tr
While driving down a busy 4 lane road in wilmington nc, the service powertrain engine light came one. at that point, there was no longer any power to the wheels of the vehicle. the only thing that could be done was to steer to the median and shut down the car. this created a very dangerous condition in which the driver was unable to actively continue safely to the side of the road. when the car was restarted, the error was cleared. no code was subsequently available to be pulled. at a later point, the code was pulled while, once again in limp mode on the side of the road. the code pulled was p2111. this error, when active, creates a very dangerous condition and should be addressed by ford. *tr
I was driving my vehicle up a slight grade at 40mph approximately 5pm on a thursday. all of a sudden, the power to the engine abruptly came to a significant drop in speed. all the way down to 1mph. i pressed on the accelerator, and the engine had no response. the car kept moving forward, but only the max speed of 1mph. the engine was running/sounding rough and was slightly shaky. my vehicle appeared to be running normally all day and there were no prior warnings indicating the car needed to be taken to the dealer. as soon as the vehicle abruptly lost all that power, the little yellow wrench symbol (indicating powertrain/awd issues) appeared and the words no awd. i have never experienced this before. this is a huge safety concern and i was extremely lucky (as well as my two passengers) that this did not occur on a major highway or there was many cars right behind me. this very well could have resulted in a major crash!!! especially if i was going 65mph on our major highways with heaving traffic. thankfully, i was less than .5 miles from home and managed to get home without incident. i parked my vehicle in front of the house. i turned off the engine and waited a minute and restarted it. the engine seemed to run heavy at first, then idled down. i put it in drive and it moved forward and i drove it about 1-2 feet and put it in reverse. it seemed to be fine. i have not drove it since, nor will i until the matter is resolved. i am having it towed to the ford dealership. i am not going to risk that happening again until the issue(s) are resolved. *tr
While driving in poway at 45 mph with only less than a one minute warning of an orange color wrench light showing up. my ford edge lost all power 100% including brakes, accelerator you name it the power was lost. so i then took it to the dealership on 10/7/2014 after they had it for 2 full days. they said we cannot determine what it was the service man even stated that they attached it to diagnostic computer and were unable to determine what was wrong. then gave me paperwork and told me if it happens again to bring it back and sure enough it did on 10/15/14 while i was on the 52 freeway the same thing. please help me and my family have ford address this problem this car is unsafe for my family as well as others on the road there is no telling when all power is going to be last 100%. *tr
While driving down a local 4-lane road, the 2011 ford edge lost power, became unresponsive to the accelerator pedal, and the "wrench" symbol appeared on the instrument panel. the car would still move forward (perhaps 5 mph or less), and we were able get the flashers on and to park on a side road. the situation was very difficult as we had to cross a lane of traffic at low speed, where traffic normally moves at 40-50 mph. after looking in this data base and at other internet sources, this problem seems to be relatively common to the ford edge, but we have not received a recall letter about it. *tr
My vehicle all of a sudden slowed down to a coast and would not accelerate. a yellow icon appeared and informed me that i needed to take the vehicle in to the dealer asap, there is a malfunction in the vehicle's awd system. i was able to pull over to the side of the road and turn of the car. the car then started and i was able to get home. when i brought the car over to the dealership i got hit with a $1,000 bill, for the part (throttle box controller) $475, labor $120, re programming the computer $130, fuel injector cleaning $159 and oil change $75. my car is almost three years old and i take good care of it. it is not acceptable that an electrical component's part and labor replacement cost is $1000 in less than three years. *tr
Actually happened twice. once at 60 mph and again at about 15mph. the car immediately decelerates on its own as if it is not getting gas. the "wrench" icon comes on. when the car is turned off and restarted, it functions normally. several similar instances reported on internet. *tr
I began to accelerate at a intersection when my vehicle suddenly and without warning lost power to the wheels. the engine remained on but began to sputter. a yellow wrench appeared on the dashboard saying that the awd had turned off. i turned the engine off and it restarted with some difficulty. a few days later the same issue occurred again but now wont run more than a few hundred yards without recurring. *tr
I was driving 25 miles per hour on a major roadway and for no reason the car lost acceleration. the engine began to shake and gasp. after i lost power to the engine i could only drive one mile an hour to try to get off the road in heavy traffic. i did not get in an accident but it could have easily happened. a yellow warning wrench icon appeared. i turned off the car. i restarted the car and the problem resolved. i took it to a repair shop and they cleaned the throttle body because no error codes were found and it was dirty. it happened again one week later when i was traveling 50 miles per hour. i tried to drive to a dealership to keep the wrench icon on but the car stalled. i restarted and the problem resolved but i continued to a ford dealership. once again there was no code. i have researched this on the internet and it is happening to others as well. this is very dangerous and i am lucky it did not cause an accident. this should be recalled and repaired by ford. *tr
When driving my ford edge down the highway, it suddenly loses power and have to pull off road. has happened 3x so took to dealership and they want $900 to fix! really can't believe a throttle body goes out after 3 years. *tr
I had just purchased my 2011 ford edge sel driving it for the first time after driving it home. i was driving on a two lane hwy when i lost power, a warning came up on the dash awd off with the little tool beside it. i had to coast off to the side of the road and thankfully there was a place to pull over. i waited a few minutes then restarted the car and it drove fine until 1 week later while i was driving on the interstate it did the exact same thing, the car shut down again. i did make it to the side of the road this time it did not want to start so i waited alittle longer and tried again and it did start back up. i pulled out and less than 1/2 mile down the road it shut down again. i managed to get it to the side of the road turned everything off restarted it again. all of this happened at night with just me and my son, we were scared to death . i did make it home that night. i called the dealership where i purchased the car and was told that they couldn't see me until 1 week and 2 days later. i took it to the dealerships service dept today and was told that they can't help me with my car since it is a ford and they are a chevy dealer and i need to take it to their ford dealership. i should have been told this before i drove an unsafe car 45 minuted down the road. after complaining to the salesman who sold me the car , they are going to take it to the ford service dept for me (its 3hrs from my house) but that is not until next week. i am stuck with an unsafe car to drive that i just purchased and haven't even made the first payment . *tr
door ajar sensor appeared, took vehicle back to dealer, replaced door latch and door ajar icon disappeared. automatic door latches are working properly; however, one week later, as i was driving a wrench icon appeared and my car lost power. imagine the danger involved in driving and loosing power. called the dealer, left the car again for another repair session. it is my understanding that the door ajar sensor has been very problematic for the ford edge model and there has not been a recall. add my complaint to the list of many and hopefully something will be done for the consumer. i am disappointed because the vehicle still smells new and only has 40,200 miles on it but is already having problems. acronym for ford=fix or repair daily, and i sure hope not! ford has another acronym, but i will not post it at this time. trying to remain patient, but diligent. *tr
I was driving along on a 2 lane highway when all of a sudden i had no power in the gas pedal, and an orange wrench light popped up in my dash. i pulled off the road and put my car in park. it was idling very rough. i turned the car off and after a few minutes i cranked it back up and it was fine. i took it to tallahassee ford on magnolia. when i got there and told the service guy what the problem was he immediately said it was the throttle body. two days later he called and said they replaced the pcm. it was fine for 24 hours then it did the same thing again in downtown traffic. i took it back to ford and they replaced my dirty air filter and that was it. now it's back at ford right now, because the problem is now happening more frequently and is very dangerous as i do a lot of interstate driving, and they just called to tell me it's the throttle body and it would be nearly $600 to replace it. i feel like i've gotten the run around! *tr
When i accelerate from a stop position, or when i am approx. only a few miles per hour the vehicle will jump and it will feel the vehicle jump and it feels like i am rear-ended. i asked my dealer about this and was told they never heard of it. it was all over the internet. many, many owners had the same problem. i found tsb 11-5-6 and brought it with me to my dealer and had it fixed. again, they never even heard of the tsb, which i do not believe because it seems like it is such a common problem. the vehicle seemed fine but started happening again. i emailed, and spoke on the phone, to the dearer and to ford. they specified they would have to take the vehicle and see what is happening. i explained to them that it doesn't happen all the time, just like the last time. they said if they can reproduce it, they can't fix it. plus i would be charged for it even though it has been an ongoing problem. there is no way for them to reproduce it at will, as it only happens about 1 time per month. when it does happen, it is very scary because it feels like someone hit you. i found tsb 13-3-18 which is another repair for the same problem. ford told me it doesn't pertain to me. according the wording in the tsb, i am not so sure. ford is fully aware of this problem. it is all over the internet. they should be obligated to fix it. *tr
Driving about 40 mph when car shifted into overdrive, then it bucked. followed by decrease in speed. check engine light and awdlight came on. limped car to safe location. no throttle response. engine was running, but stumbling. i turned car off and waited a minute. then restarted, everything was back to normal. the sudden deceleration was so violent that i almost hit my head on steering wheel. concerned it may happen again on a busier highway and the consequences that may prevail. i am also wondering if ithe throttle body is the same as the ford escape which has a recall on it. *tr
Going down a busy road at 45mph, my 2011 ford edge did a slight jerk and i lost the ability to accelerate. i was nearly rear ended! this incident has happened 3 times in 3 weeks. they occur at random and without warning. a wrench icon will display on the dash when it occurs. i had to coast to the shoulder of the road to stop since i could not accelerate, nor did the motor rev when i pressed the gas. once stopped on shoulder, i cut the vehicle off and back on. it took longer than normal to crank. once it finally started up i was able to continue driving with no problems. i brought the vehicle in to a ford dealer to see what the error messages read and they were unable to find any messages on my car. this fact made it so i could not use my warranty coverage to cover repair cost. this is ludicrous! since this issue is recurring and ,after research, found to be prevalent in many ford models, ford should step up and recall this issue but they won't. this is a dangerous issue and could cause injuries! *tr
When driving on a 2 lane mountain road at 60, engine fully warmed up (running for 20+ minutes, ambient temperature approx 85 f) the throttle become unresponsive and the engine rpm dropped to approximately 600 rpm based on the dash tachometer. when this happened a yellow wrench dialog was displayed on the digital dash with no text other than "ok". all controls other than the throttle seemed to function correctly. we were going downhill when this happened and were able to coast until we found a suitable place to pull over. once we pulled over we noticed the engine was running rough and sputtering. we turned the engine off and then back on and the issue persisted (rough idling and no throttle control). opened hood and pulled engine cover to check for any visible issues, none found. when we got back into the car the throttle was functioning properly and the idle was smooth with no sputtering. we finished the rest of the drive without incident and when we got back to the house hooked up the obdii reader and no fault codes were stored. we took the edge in to the nearest ford dealer (lawley's team ford in silver city, nm) the next morning and they found no fault codes stored in any module and charged us $122.25 for the diagnostics even though the car is still covered under the factory power train warranty. they said they didn't know what caused the issue but said it may have been a "random glitch" or "bad fuel". thankfully, this happened on a lightly traveled road and we were heading downhill and able to coast and find a place to pull off the road. if this were a busy road or we were not able to pull completely off the road this could have been a much more serious issue. we have only owned the vehicle for less than a month so we can't say whether it has happened before that. it has not occurred in the 1000+ miles we have put on the car since it occurred. *tr
The engine remains running, but vehicle looses all power to the wheels and suddenly stops. this has occurred at various speeds from 25 mph on a county road to 55 mph on an interstate. it is unsafe and the car is unable to maneuvered to the side of the road. this clearly is a issue with the manufacture of the vehicle, and dramatically impacts safety, increasing the potential for a serious crash. there has been a recall for this very same issue with later years, involving a half-shaft retention clip that is not properly installed. ford refuses to acknowledge that this issue is occurring with other model years, and refuses to address or correct the problem. *tr
The vehicle shut down on the highway. it appeared that the vehicle had no fuel. the yellow wrench came on, and the vehicle died, as it came to a stop. after a few minutes, started as if nothing had happened. it has done it a few other times, today. i checked to see if there were any codes and on the first few times, there were not (autozone), but the last time it threw p2111. *tr
Driving on major highway, 55 mph, all of a sudden the car jerks, slows down and i cannot control the acceleration. i have to quickly pull over onto grassy area out of the way of traffic. the awd signal came on and a wrench signal. i quickly turned car off and restarted and it was fine. this happened over a month ago and did not happen again until yesterday and then again this morning. all 3 times my 2 year old has been with me and i have been on a major highway. this could have had dire consequences. the car slows down so quickly that if anyone was closely behind me they certainly would have rear-ended me. looking online this seems to be quite the issue, yet there has been no recall?? this is unacceptable! *tr
I am a 55 year old woman and july 27, 2014 headed for st. louis to the airport. about 35 minutes into my trip, on a very rural missouri highway, my car had no power accelerating and the "wrench light" came on. luckily, a church parking lot was near, so i coasted there and shut off the car. i started it, it was running ok and the light went off. i made the rest of my trip. when i got back home, i left the next day on august 6th to head to aurora, mo to help my daughter. about 1 1/2 hours into my trip, the car did exactly the same thing. no power, wrench light on. i was so nervous since i was on interstate 44 with heavy traffic. i got off the interstate and restarted the car and made it to aurora. i took my car to the ford dealer there. they checked it and stated no codes came up so they couldn't do anything. i called hutcheson ford in st. james (where i purchased edge) and they wanted me to bring it in. july 28th, i took it to st. james with the same results. no codes, no help. i came home and had a local mechanic drive it. he did and said there was something wrong & to check the internet for common problems. i couldn't believe the number of people that had the same problem on their 2011 edge and stated it was throttle body. i drive a lot by myself on roads with no shoulder so i had to have it taken care of. today i just picked up the edge with a new throttle body of $710. *tr
In heavy traffic the vehicle stopped. required tow to dealer, who replaced the throttle body under warranty. *tr
Coming off of lakeshore drive with my 4 month old son in the back car seat and the truck just goes limp with no power. it drove really slow and so i pulled off to the side turned off the truck restarted and seemed fine. there were cars coming up behind me thank goodness no accident. made it to my sons doctor appointment and quickly called the dealership and the service guy said he has heard nothing with the ford edge and doesn't know what the wrench meant. he said i need to bring it in and i will be charged $125 just to look at it. i asked if it was safe to drive back with my son and he just said i don't know. so i asked why would the handbook say to contact the dealership immediately? apparently this seems to be an issue with this and needs to be fixed. i have two small children and do not want something serious to happen for something that is obviously a defect! *tr
My wife was driving home from work during rush hour and twice on the same trip the engine shuttered then completely shut down. the first time, luckily, she was able to coast across four lanes of traffic to the shoulder because this happened where two interstates merge and the is not a shoulder on the left. we took the car to the dealership and they replaced the throttle body. the dealer stated it was a known problem and has been recalled on other models but not the edge. i called ford customer service and i got the impression they did not care about the issue or the safety of the people driving their vehicles. because of this we traded our vehicle at a loss within a week of spending $700 to replace the throttle body. *tr
Nys thruway at exit 18, cleared toll booth and wrench symbol illuminated on dash with associated dialogue box check owners manual. power loss was immediately evident with no response from input to the accelerator pedal. shut off engine and restarted with positive results. traveled approximately 5 miles and same indication appeared accompanied by loss of power and no response from accelerator pedal. shut off and re-started engine with no problems. this has occurred four times so far in the last two weeks. i am an aircraft mechanic and it seems that it's a scheduling problem. after the previous incident it seems to re-appear every 100 miles, with a half tank of fuel indicated. i recently added fuel injection cleaner to a full tank of gas, specifically for a 12 gallon tank. the oil life is at 50% and a systems check indicates no problems. all incidences of this happening when the air conditioning was running and engine temp was mid- scale. *tr
I was driving on the highway and the car would no longer accelerate, and began to slow down. i still had power steering and brakes, and all other electronic devices were working. also a warning light came on with a wrench icon. i was able to get over to the side of the road, turned off the engine, and then tried it again and it everything seemed to be alright. i got to the next exit and called aaa and i had the car towed to my local mechanic where it was determined that it was a throttle body failure. it was replaced and the car is working well again. *tr
2011 edge, 3.5 years old, with 41,000 miles. car suddenly lost power to move forward, but car was still running, wrench appeared on screen, was able to coast and pull over. turned engine off, restarted vehicle successfully. problem repeated itself the next day, twice, was able to (fortunately) coast to a safe area and turn the car off. car was restarted, engine light appeared after the third incident. car was taken to dealership. code p2111. throttle body was replaced ($636), updated software - powertrain?? ($95), and performed a "highly recommended" fuel cleaning ($108). total cost, with miscellaneous charges for environmental waste and tax, was $884. i have owned numerous vehicles, most from ford, most older than 3.5 years old and having more than 41,000 miles, never had a problem like this before - very disappointing! high level of concern during incidents that the car would create a traffic problem. fortunately it did not and was able to avoid high traffic and high speeds, and was able to get the vehicle to a dealership. *tr
In the middle of driving normally the engine slows rpm almost to a stall then would not do any thing when the gas pedal was pressed. after pulling over i shut off the car and turned it back on and it drove fine for about 20 miles. then while slowing down to a redlight it did the same thing. so i turned it off and on and it was fine again. i drove it home and now its sitting in the driveway. after looking online it seems that it is probably the throttle body. im going to replace that and see what happens. *tr
I loved everything about my 2011 ford edge limited awd, i've had it less then two months . then one morning as i was commuting to work i lost power to my edge. the weather was clear approx. 68 degrees, a beautiful friday morning i was driving i felt a jolt like a kick in the transmission that was followed by a flash of the tool symbol & ?awd off? on my front instrument panel. i lost acceleration power. i had nowhere to pull off on the side of the road and had just came out of a sharp curve. all i could do was put the edge in park. turn off, then turn back on, it started right up luckily. the next day my husband took the edge to a ford dealership. the service dept. hooked up the edge and found no problems/errors/codes. although they said it is probably the throttle body, since they have had several ford edges come in with the same problem. i have googled ?losing power while driving my 2011 ford edge? and didn?t relies that this is the #1 problem with ford edges, you would think that ford would do something about this. after reading all the comments i saw information on the ?throttle body? being replaced. several people posted their edge had a code p2111 or p2112 (pertaining to the throttle body). i called ford and they told me this would not be covered under warranty. help! i have a small family now i'm scared to drive! *tr
On my way to work on 787 in rush hour traffic 7:30 in the morning , was about to get off of 787 to get on i90 all of the sudden i lost full power of the gas, pulled over as soon as i could with all the traffic . the symbol came up on the screen the wrench looking picture. i shut my car off. called my husband and hoping i wouldn't get hit with people doing 60 plus right passed me. after 10 min i started my car back up and hoping i can accelerate back onto 787. finally got to work. ford really needs to take care of this issue with all the complaints i have seen!!!! *tr
Driving getting ready to make a turn, vehicle completely stalled out, didn't turn off but i lost power. had no ability to accelerate. immediately put on hazard lights, put into park and turned car off. turned car back on and preceded with fear and caution. i had a similar incident at about14000 miles when i took it in for service they said nothing was wrong. i'm afraid to drive to work in the morning, if this happens during rush hour someone may be injured or worst. i usually have my grand daughter with me. *js
While driving at highway speeds on an interstate, there was a sudden loss of accelerator power. i was able to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road, park, shut the engine off, and restart with seemingly no repeatable affect. dealer not able to reproduce the problem but says that it's probably the throttle body. this loss of power and required shoulder maneuver could have caused a significant crash due to surrounding traffic. *js
2nd incident in 3 weeks. first incident, was traveling at 70 mph on a highway and second was at 50 mph on a regional route. while in drive, without warning, awd off appears followed by the wrench icon indicating service is needed immediately. the car loses its ability to accelerate. engine, brakes, radio, ac all still work, the only issue is an inability to accelerate at all so the car basically is in neutral and starts losing speed immediately. had to put on emergency blinkers both times, coast across busy highway lanes to the emergency lane. turned the car off and then back on and it was as if nothing happened. this issue needs to be addressed immediately as it could be potentially life threatening (think if you were crossing an intersection, needed to speed up to get out of the way of something or were on train tracks). after the first incident, i brought it to the dealer who ran a diagnostic and found nothing wrong with the car. i am bringing it to a separate dealer after experiencing this issue a second time. other issues that reference similar experience cite a faulty throttle body with error code p21111. this should be recalled immediately. *tr
Driving 45 mph and vehicle lost power, the wrench dash warning light came on, pulled over shut it off and it was rough to start but it did, and ran ok. a week later did it again going about 25 mph. as others have mentioned scanner shows no codes. fortunately for us the issues have happened on low volume roadways, not high speed, high traffic like some unlucky folks. local dealer called ford and it is not covered under the power train, we have 35k miles but 45 months. hopefully ford will stand up and do a recall without waiting for the deaths to multiply like gm! *tr
