Problems with 2008 Ford Edge VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

On average, the 2008 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL and its various aspects after 99 520 miles.

Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2008 Ford Edge

Start engine, move transmission into reverse, transmission clunks loudly. when transmission is moved to drive, engine revs high, barely moves forward, speedometer stuck at zero despite moving up to 20mph. engine light comes on, airbag light comes on.

Driving on the highway suddenly speedometer/odometer stopped working, low tire pressure light came on and car acceleration dropped and it wouldn't respond to increased pressure on gas pedal. car would not accelerate. had to get off the highway. car would only travel at a very low speed. made my way to a parking lot and shut the car off. shifting into any gear (reverse, drive etc.) caused the car to jump/shake and make a loud noise. after a while it resolved itself. took the car to a ford dealership. they checked it out, could find no issue (incidental finding - car needed battery). battery was replaced, picked up car and resumed driving the car. within a week was driving on the highway (second time since picking the car up) and had the same thing happen. driving on highway and suddenly see the speedometer/odometer stop working, low tire pressure light and lose ability to control acceleration of vehicle. had to get off the highway, car wouldn't travel at anything other than very low speed, jerked when shifted etc. this has happened twice and when looking it up online i can see it has happened to many with this model/year. it is very dangerous to suddenly lose the ability to control acceleration. why has this not been addressed with a recall. it seems to occur once the car reaches close to 100k miles. can't help but wonder why dealership is not aware but i can find reams of documented issues online. fyi - this car is primarily driven by my 19 year old son and both incidences occurred when he was driving.

On my drive to work i noticed my tire pressure light was on. on my way home from work something extremely scary happened. two additional lights appeared, one was the wrench symbol and the other was tire sensor fault which was not the biggest issue. the bigger scarier issue was that while going 65 mph in busy traffic my speed odometer stopped working. i spoke to someone at ford and expressed my fear of this safety issue. they recommended reporting it. if anyone else has this serious issue please report it.

Driving, going up a hill, the car stopped accelerating and lost power going up. i almost got into an accident. the car doesn't accelerate and it has all the fluids and changed of oils. the car clunks and has a wrench. when i put into reverse it jump a very minimum acceleration. i'm afraid to drive it. i had to tow the car. the mechanic couldn't find the problem. he said he cleared up the computer and it was fine. then i was driving on the highway and it happened again. no acceleration. why ford hasn't made this into a safety recall. i did my investigation and i believe it has to do with the transmission sensors. please help me.

I own a 2008 ford edge limited i am having the same problem as some people on here are with the wrench 🔧 light also a air bag light comes on and i have almost had an accident because the car speedometer stops working and the car shifts super hard it seems to be happening more frequently i did my research on fords website for finding out the problem and it's a glitch this is a huge safety concern when trying to avoid an accident from occurring also you can't even view the speed i think this should be investigated and recalled because i it can create a unsafe environment to not only my vehicle but others as well.

Vehicle initially would not accelerate beyond 10 mph then completely lost power in the middle of rush hour traffic. local repair center reported issues with pcm and was unable to fix it. sent it to a ford dealer who confirmed issues with pcm that damaged the body throttle, 3 engine coils, and other parts. had to replace pcm and parts damaged by it resulting in a $2894.10 repair bill. the following day after repair, was again in the middle of rush hour traffic and the vehicle completely loss power again. this is a serious safety concern and based on research, a lot of people are experiencing the same thing. ford need to recall this issue. i'm so thankful my child was not in the vehicle during these events.

While driving out of a driveway onto a highway, my vehicle went limp and i had to pull over. as i was putting it into park, it gave out a loud noise. i waited for a few minutes and turned the ignition back on and proceeded to drive off and the car stalled again. i turned the car off and now afraid to drive it. i'm having it towed to my house where it will stay parked until i can have it looked at. hopefully, i won't have to trade it in. with all the complaints about the for vehicles, i will not purchase a ford ever again.

Will be driving and loud thump then car will not change gears. have to pull off road turn car off and let sit for awhile. restart car and wrench goes away and car will go. this is a very dangerous situation as have been on freeway when problem occurs. there should be recall on this ptoblem.

On 4/26/19 the ford edge was setting in park letting my sisters get out the ford edge was put in drive it would not move put it in reverse it would not move, turn it off and on again it started to work fine.i do not what is going on it

While driving in the city it jump from first to second gear with a hard boom. driving on the highway while going up a hill jump out of gear and will not pull i pull over to the shoulder. to get the car to function again i have to turn the ford edge off turn it back on this is not good. what can be done to fix the problem. *tr

I was driving in a city street and my car suddenly had very decreased power and the wrench light came on. i drove until i found a place to safely pull over to the side of the road. when i turn the car off and back on the light turns off.

Vehicle will act like it ' jumps' and the wrench light will come on. vehicle will decelerate if i don't pull over immediately causing me to come to a stop. speedometer doesn't work while this is happening. cant accelerate once stopped. has to turn vehicle off to reset the computer and the wrench light will go off for a period of time until it decides to happen again. very dangerous situation if on the highway and can't get out of the way of other cars to cut the vehicle off. happens a few times a month.

When driving my car loses power and wrench light came on. bought it to ford dealer was told it's my throttle body. i see this is not a isolated case.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 70 mph, the check engine and air bag warning indicators illuminated. also, the odometer became inoperable and the vehicle failed to maintain forward momentum. the vehicle was safely guided off of the roadway, the ignition was placed in the off position, and the vehicle was restarted; however, it failed to accelerate. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. krause family ford of woodstock (located at 195 woodstock pkwy, woodstock, ga 30188, (770) 592-8873) and the manufacturer were contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 159,000. *tt vehicle was repaired.*jb

When pulling into a parking space at very slow speed and my foot on the brake, the engine will suddenly increase in speed. this is an intermittent problem, it first happened once about 2 years ago and didn't happen again until about 4 weeks ago now it occurs at least once a week. it's not floor mats or anything else on the gas pedal ! so far no damage or injuries because i shut off the engine.when i restart, all seems normal until it happens again later on. also note that "when did this happen?" answer is the latest date it happened

One week prior to event-the wrench light came on while starting car. i turned ignition off and re-started car ignition-drove fine without further incident until 1 week later: pulled into a 1 mile driveway to get to my work office suite (flat road) driving about 30 miles, car came to a stop without warning-at that time all the warning lights came on. i put it into park/with emergency brake as it began rolling near an office suite-the steering wheel was frozen. have had same stalling issues while driving car since purchasing the car at 18,000 miles-each time told different things are causing it by dealer, i.e. tss/oss sensors, ebt, reflash pom which i had fixed. with curren event- are in process of diagnosing it.

My suv had odometer error. the the wrench.came on air bag.came one and would not.shift lost power pulled.over turned.car off then back on lights went off on dash but.it.was making.noise going.into.gear

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 45 mph, the odo data error message illuminated. also, the wrench icon and tire pressure module failure indicators illuminated. the dealer was not called. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and error code: p0720 (speed control sensor) was located. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure was not repaired. the failure mileage was 168,378.

When first started up it some times turns off with no warning. then a constant ticking sound then intermittently when reversing the car kicks back as if transmission is not engaging and has loss of acceleration when merging onto freeway has hesitation and almost got into a wreck a driving rpm go up and down eraticly and acceleration is slugish. brakes are constanly quelling and they dont need replaced i just bought this car 2months ago from used car lot bought extended warranty for 1800.00 but does not take effect for 90 days but might not be able to claim since this is a problem before coverage was in effect havent even made my first paynent i will have them for 2yrs car has 150008 miles.

Speedometer and tachometer at random speeds quits working , low tire pressure light, wrench light, airbag light, check engine light. constant loud clunking sound when changing gears. the car kicks back as if transmission is not engaging and has loss of acceleration and wheels roll and when red light turns green, the car takes time to accelerate and wheels start rolling and make a loud sound.i pull over the vehicle on the side of the road every time and turn it off, then turn the vehicle on again so it can go back to normal. usually happens on both city streets or highway at a random speed between 45 mph and 60 mph. 114,000 miles. i have been having this issue since i bought the vehicle on feb, 2018 and took it to multiple mechanics and all of them claimed it's either a speed sensor issue/ transmission failure/ electrical system.

Takata recall same story as many other posters here, just adding to the list. 2008 ford edge w/ 170,000. speedometer quits working, low tire pressure light, wrench light, airbag light -- initially works as if in low gear (high rpm's and little speed), then quits accelerating all together -- loud thump when change between p / r / d. i was driving down the hwy at 60 mph. had to stop and pull over and let the car sit before i could go again it took about 15mins before the car would go again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 25 mph, the wrench icon and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the accelerator pedal failed to work and the vehicle gradually came to a complete stop. the speed on the odometer and the tachometer was incorrect. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road, turned off, and turned on the vehicle. the vehicle was returned to normal. the failure recurred and the vehicle failed to restart. the vehicle automatically restarted and the speed automatically increased from 0 to 70 mph. the contact applied the brakes to reduce the speed. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 105,929. *bf *tr

Was on state highway when the odo data error code came on and wrench light lost power, rpm worked semis behind me was scared i couldnt get over withought getting hit. finally got pulled over went to put car in park got out checked tranny fluid was fine. got back in shifted in reverse hard shift felt like tranny fell out same in drive no power. turned car off let set a few min and back on lights went off went to take off shifted a little eaiser littler power taking off and a hard shift as car finally shifted and gained speed. then car seems fine. went to drive it a couple hours later seems fine but shifted hard a couple times like it was going to do it again so came back home. i read online alot about this problem i have a toddler and this could of been a bad situation losing power like that in a busy state highway. had my brother hook car up to computer cant pull any codes as it reseted so i dont know what to look for as to fix this problem.

The truck suddenly stalls out, u press the accelerator and the truck doesn't pick up speed, i turn the ignition on and it doesn't start, it cuts off in the mist of driving and turning...very dangerous there should be a recall and it should not expire i have my children in the car with me!!!!

My car was parked in a parking lot. i got in the car and started it. i pressed the accelerator to go and the car just started to roll, it would not accelerate. all of the sudden my airbag and wrench light came on and i had no speedometer or tachometer reading. eventually as the car was rolling the accelerator would start to work. i got to a stop light and when the light turned green, again the car would just roll and then after a few feet the accelerator would start to work. i parked the car along a curb and shut the car off and started it again. as i shifted from park to reverse there was loud clunk. there was also a loud clunk when i shifted to neutral and to drive. the lights that had shown up on the dashboard were now gone and my speedometer and tachometer were showing again. i went to accelerate and the car drove fine. i took it to the shop and the mechanic said according to the "code" that showed up when they hooked it up to the machine, the problem appears to be the speed sensor.

Car will jerk, slip, beat and bang. stopped pulling at a red light. got towed home . took off battery cable for 30mins . started working again for awhile. does this often, repair shops have no clue except for new tranny.it will also try to pull forward while in park when you have the other problems also. it has done this while sitting still and while running 70 on the interstate.

Driving and out of no where, receive an error message that says "odo data error", the car holds the current speed but it's very apparent that something is off as the car is now making a humming/air pressure sound (speedometer & tachometer stops working at various speeds) when this happens the wrench, airbag, abs, stability control indicator and engine light illuminate. within 5 minutes new error appears (tire pressure monitor fault). once you have pressed the brakes and come to a complete stop the car is extremely hesitant to accelerate even with the gas pedal pushed completely to the floor it doesn't gain power until it has rolled about 15-20 feet and at that point there is a extremely loud bang which makes you think the entire underbelly of the car has fallen out. at that point it regains speed again, but if you stop it does the same thing all over. switching gears result in a loud bang and jerking action of the car with little to no acceleration power. temporary remedy is to pull over turn car off wait a minute or two then restart the car. at that point when switching gears the bang and jerk happen again with the car slow to accelerate for a few seconds then it takes off like a race horse. sometimes this remedies it while other times the same process is repeated multiple times within one trip. this has occurred on city streets and major expressways at speeds of 35 mph to 60 mph. first started experiencing the issue at about 170k miles and has been going on for over a year with no solutions from mechanics. if a mechanic with equipment/computers can't remedy a repair and seeing how there are numerous complaints of the same issue ford should issue a recall to repair any components that could trigger the issue. this is pure negligence seeing that there are so many complaints. my opinion is it has something to do with the transmission and computer system.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 25-30 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the a single ignition coil failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the dealer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 109,235.

Made a turn off interstate into a busy road, my vehicle jerked and lost its ability to accelerate. leaving me in a very dangerous situation with cars flying around me to avoid hitting me. i managed to make it into a parking lot. i had a friend check the vehicle and with the hood up he had me put in reverse and it looked like the motor was going to jump out of the vehicle, same happened in drive. he put his computer on and a code for the drive speed sensor was present. the code was cleared and then noticed the speed and rpm gauges were inaccurate. this happens on occasion. upon research i see this sensor has a recall on it but not for my year 08 edge. please recall asap. this can cause some seriously bad accident when your vehicle looses its ability to accelerate when in traffic. i fear this will happen and my life is in the line. ford is aware there is a apparent problem noted by other year make model recalls. note: this is the original complaint.....................today the same has happened again, i was greeted by horns blowing and aggressive drivers but was unable to do anything but coast to the next intersection to turn off. nhtsa pleasw do something if possible. this output drive speed sensor is going to get someone killed soon. there are numerous complaints throughout this feed under scattered categories mainly because most do not know what the problem is and dealers cant figure out if the vehicle doesn't throw up a code. i had mine checked when the warning light was on so i would know the issue. unfortunately the dealer couldn't help because we cleared the code. i checked into geeting this fixed but according to the dealer the part is unavailable, and the labor would be absurd if they had to replace. please help!

Wrench light, dashes on odometer, speedometer on zero, airbag light on. loses the ability to accelerate properly. it has happened 6 times this month, usually on the highway after i've had to slow down with traffic and try to accelerate again. get to the side of the road or a parking lot and shut the car off. restart it all warning lights are gone but still will not accelerate. shift in and out of reverse and drive with very loud knocking and jerking. move car back and forth. restart and repeat multiple times before it resets itself. it never happens by somewhere that can scan it to get a code. as the wrench light goes off and stays off after you restart the car no one can tell me what's wrong. it is extremely frustrating. i am quickly losing faith in ford and their regards for customers safety. good thing i don't live where there are mountains because if i did i am sure i would have been in an accident by now. it has happened twice this week. 5 times were highway 1 was on a busy 4 lane road. it has jerked when shifting around 45 mph for about 3 years now.

I can be driving down the highway set on cruise control and my vehicle will come up odometer failure a wrench light, and transmission light and several others come on no speedometer. if i come to a stop taking off the vehicle is stuck in high gear and will barely pick up any speed until it makes a hard loud shift. you can pull over and reset it but when you take off it is the same thing. this is very dangerous you don't know when it will happen and i have been in the middle lane on a highway before when it kicked out. this has been linked back to bad tss and oss sensors in the transmission they need to be recalled before it kills someone.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that various warning indicators randomly flashed on the instrument panel/cluster. when the accelerator pedal was applied, the rpms raced, but the vehicle was slow to gain speed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no recommended solution. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

Driving at i275 to st petersburg, at 60mph the car made a loud noise from the engine and reduced gears abruptly, it felt like a hard braking from the engine, very hard. the rpm went skyrocket, the car lost power and wouldn't go over 45mph or it would do the same again. it looked like it was on a very low gear, as it was at 40mph doing almost 4000rpm... i stopped at a gas station, turned it of and let it sit for about 20 minutes. when i tried to go back rome, after 2 miles it did the same, it lost power. i drove back to the gas station and had it towed home.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact mentioned that the accelerator pedal had to be depressed aggressively for the vehicle to move forward. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. the technician stated that the throttle body may have failed and may need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 128,000. the vin was not available.

Pulled in parking lot,put transmission in park, and engine began to increase in rpm to 2500-2600,i noticed driving home it seemed as if the cruise control was engaged (it was not). applying the brake gently (would not correct)if brake was applied very firmly,it would finally let the rpm drop back to normal,

When i was driving to work all of a sudden my airbag and wrench light came on and i have no speedometer or tachometer reading. if i pulled over and starting driving again i had very little pickup even though the rpms were over 2,000. there is also a very loud clunk when you put it in drive or reverse.

On approximately 7/6/2016, while in motion, traveling north on riverside drive -i-55 north, on the 2-lane overpass at i-55 & mclemore, 18 wheeler was to the right and i was behind another motorist in line and traveling about 70 mph with a line of vehicles behind, it was after work rush hour 4:45pm; when as i am driving the vehicle sputters, seemed to it lose power, decelerates in the middle of on going traffic. the engine light flashed and then stayed illuminated, i could not accelerate in order get off to the side of the highway and traffic was at a very fast flow. my sync system surged, a-c stopped blowing cold air, the vehicle started "missing" but the vehicle did not shut off. took the vehicle to advance auto parts store and was told that i had a misfire in 3 of the ignition coils, bought replacement coils and had all 6 of them replaced. start the vehicle and the engine light was cleared but came right back, the vehicle is still miss firing on the exact same coils this time along with the pcm. out of hundreds of dollars at the moment and it looks like i will be out of $3000 to ford for an issue that they know is faulty within the design of the computer. we've already paid $30,000 for the vehicle, why would ford not recall and repair these issues if they are aware of it????

12/13/15 the first time the odo error light came on, it triggered other lights such as tire sensor, airbag deployed to come on after the odo error went away. odometer didn't work. turned car off,car would clunk heavily when switching gears. took to dealer they switched out cable harness and battery.problem went away. 1/18/16 odo error light came on along with same o other lights as before, no odometer. vehicle would not get out of second gear,( turned off when arrived home). next morning hard clunking into reverse just like previously vehicle in driveway no in motion. seemed to stay in 2nd gear again. turned into my husbands shop, garage where the vehicle seemed to be okay. drove to work no big issues so far. read up on line that 100's of consumers are having the same issue with the ford edge and the 2008 in particular seems to be the worst.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, an abnormal noise emitted from underneath the vehicle. the instrument panel displayed all warning lights as the vehicle power was reduced. the contact maneuvered to side of the road to a complete stop. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

Vehicle unexpectedly and randomly displays odo data error on instrument panel, mileage and speedometer don't function, vehicle loses all power and does not accelerate. this resets itself after turning car off, removing key, then restarting car. when are you going to force ford to issue a recall, when someone dies? there are hundreds if not thousands with same complaints. here's a sample...https://youtu.be/px3sc2ycmeo

I was driving out of town for a work meeting with an employee. only going approx 45-50 mph, all the sudden the speedometer drops to 0 along with the mileage on my car(just dashes), then the airbag light came on and a wrench light came on then few minutes later the tire pressure light. we were coming up on a red light so i slowed down and stopped. when the light turned green i pressed my gas pedal and the car went no where. i slowly moved to the side of the road and shut my car off. i was hoping to make it to the gas station 2 miles up the road. i waited a few minutes turned my car back on a very odd noise happened the speedometer was back on and the lights were gone, i went to put the car in d and the odd noise again, pushed the gas to accelerate and nothing. currently my car is on the side of the road waiting a tow 1 hour away from home. i'm lucky my children were not with me when this occurred, it could have been very dangerous. this was my first experience with this, not only dangerous but very embarrassing with an employee in my car as well.

My transmission is being replaced at 96,400 miles. i've been having intermittent problems where it would clunk when shifting to the next gear. i've paid hundreds of dollars between 2 ford dealerships and 2 automotive repair shops just to try to figure out what the issue is. but last week as i started my 30 mile drive home, my car stopped shifting. now i'm paying roughly $5,000 to get a transmission in my car. on top of paying $200 for a rental car during all of this. this vehicle needs to be recalled!

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of acceleration and the odometer went blank as there was a sudden increase of engine rpms. the contact mentioned that the wrench light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Pulling out of a parking lot turning right tried to accelerate significant amount of traffic behind me after turning and i couldn't go anywhere. pulled into the nearest parking lot approx. 50 feet or more piled into parkin spot. then sat for a couple inured wrench illuminated on dash board. tried to back up to straighten vehicle and it made a loud clunk noise when putting in reverse. after turning off car went to restart after 30 minutes car made loud clunk again without being in gear. at this time it isn't a recalled item just. tsb and not getting any resolution as to why this isnt a recall item. approx. 45 minutes prior to this incident i was on the highway driving the speed limit. what would have happened if the failure occurred at this point. thank god it didn't as i wouldn't be writing this letter. for the safety of others this should be considered a recall item.

Takata recall - vehicle loses speed control power while driving. wrench light comes on indicating service needed. when vehicle shuts off, resets itself and able to drive 100-150 miles and then the wrench light comes on again. called dealership and was told that in order to identify the problem, the wrench light would have to be on for them to diagnose the issue. my sister does not drive much, so when it happened again, she happened to be close to an auto zone store and she stopped to have them to read the code in order to get the error reading. the code was p0715 - referring to turbine input speed shaft sensor. this is a safety issue and ford should recall this as it is a known issue. i purchased this vehicle for my sister 6 months ago. at the the time in which i bought this car for my sister, 2 weeks later she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and cannot drive. she has her son or daughter to drive her to her medical appointments and where ever she needs to go. the last thing i need is for her to be involved in an accident and potentially die from a defect in which the manufacturer could have prevented. ford needs to issue a recall on this before people are seriously injured or die. why wait until something bad happens before you fix the issue is beyond anything that i can comprehend.

On 07-23-2015 at 10:30 am est i was driving to work at the rate of 50 mph all of a sudden the vehicle stopped. the odometer/speed gauge stopped and the engine stalled. after consulting with ford and another mechanic shop they indicated this is a known issue with the throttle position sensor. however there are no recalls for this defect. this is a clear safety issue as the sudden loss of power and stoppage of the vehicle could have injured me or killed me or possible injured or killed other people. it appears this is a know safety issue that ford has no plans to remedy even though it could lead to loss of life. respectfully, [xxx] vin unavailable information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *jb

As i was driving, dash flashed "odo data error", then wrench light came on followed by airbag, tpm, engine light, basically all warning lights, odometer went to zero, loss of accelaration, pulled over and placed in park, car was revving high, turned car off and restarted, same, put on drive, stepped on gas, car revved but no movement. turned car off and waited couple minutes, restated, warning lights disappeared, odometer back to actual mileage. put on drive, step on gas, hesitation then loud transmission thump and car started moving again.

I was driving between 40-45 mph on a main road just after 12 am when the dashboard lit up. the check engine/wrench & airbag lights came on, the odometer displayed an 'odo data error' message (no mileage), & the speedometer needle dropped to 0 mph despite still traveling at 40-45 mph (i relied on my cell phone's gps for my traveling speed). the vehicle was responsive, braking, accelerating, & decelerating normally, as i looked for somewhere to pull over. i came to a full stop at a red light & when the light turned green, i pushed down on the gas pedal but the vehicle was nearly unresponsive. i fully pushed down on the gas pedal but the car only gained enough speed to crawl through the intersection. i pulled into a parking lot just past the intersection, put the car in park, shut it off, & waited 5 minutes before turning it back on. the warning lights were off & the odometer message was gone but when i shifted into drive, there was a loud, wrenching sound & the entire car jerked...still barely able to accelerate & the speedometer staying at 0, unresponsive to the gas pedal. i shifted into reverse with the same results. after a few unsuccessful attempts with the same results, i called for a ride & left the car in the parking lot, arranging a tow to the ford dealer where it was purchased. the ford service department did a test drive in their lot & the vehicle was operating normally but pulled computer error codes indicating faulty sensors (the output speed sensor & turbine speed sensor, which weren't 'communicating properly'). i took the vehicle to a local shop for repair since it had just run out of warranty. i'm lucky bethis could have been a much more dangerous situation if it had happened on a busy road or a road with a higher speed limit and fewer stops.

Engine symbol on also wrench symbol lost acceleration pull over turn off put in rev heard loud clunk rpm high but not accelaration. *tr

Driving and all the sudden car loses transmission capability. it shifts really hard and when at a stop have to rev the engine to get it to go at a crawl. all lights on dashboard light up - tool wrench - air bag disabled - odometer and speedometer stop working. very dangerous in traffic!!!! *tr
