We have classified the 140 complaints from 2008 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
When were driving the car it loses power(the traction control just comes on for no reason) , when we go above 70 our abs light comes on, our brakes randomly just start grinding then they will stop, we have replaced the breaks last month.
I had the lift gate open loading groceries and it all of a sudden released and came down and striking my head and neck and i quickly pushed it back up and it just dropped down again before i could get myself clear striking me again, it got my neck and shoulder. i took it to dealership and was first was told it was a problem for the body shop, but they quickly determined it was an electrical problem. the lift gate is very heavy and i do have to see a doctor for the persistent pain in the neck and shoulder. the vehicle was stationary in the parking lot of the grocery store.there wasn't a vehicle accident but i did receive an injury to my neck and shoulder, extent to be determined.*dt consumer stated when driving vehicle starts to shake. vehicle was taken to the dealer, pcm melted two igniton coils and new computer replaced.*jb
Battery light stayed on during a 4.5 hour trip. after reaching the end of the trip, the battery cables were found to be corroded. noticed theterminal protector has melted. used distilled water to fill the acid level in the battery, some was spilled on the positive battery cable connection(from battery to power of underhood fuse box), it sizzled from being hot! after filling the battery, the batt. light stayed off for another 3 hours of trip, and lit up again. had the battery tested, battery was found to be defective. r&r the battery, battery light is on again. no driveability issues, just concerned about, what is causing resistance in electrical charging system, and possible "fire"!
I bought a used 2008 ford edge, tail light bulb was burnt out soon after i bought it. went to change the bulb and discovered the socket was burnt up and melted. checked the other side and had the same issue! this could definitely be a fire hazard! googled the problem and found everyone complaining about the same issue!
I recently bought used 2008 ford edge. my tail light went out and when i went to change the bulb, i discovered the bulb and the whole socket to be burnt and melted. i took to google and found everyone complaining about the same issue!! this could definitely be a fire hazard, it has me worried with 2 kids in my car!!
I was driving down the road and the truck lost all power. the only choice i had was to steer the wheel to a safe position on the side of the road. when the happened the doors were locked windows were closed shut i was almost unable to get of the truck safely. also i was driving down the road after get a new set of tires and the truck began to make a scrubbing sound as if the wheels was grinding against something nothing was there. i remember a recall on the wheel hub and i have had the truck for about 2 years and i don't recall getting the problem repaired but my vin returns back no active recalls and i can not help but wonder if there is an error.
I own a 2008 ford edge limited i am having the same problem as some people on here are with the wrench 🔧 light also a air bag light comes on and i have almost had an accident because the car speedometer stops working and the car shifts super hard it seems to be happening more frequently i did my research on fords website for finding out the problem and it's a glitch this is a huge safety concern when trying to avoid an accident from occurring also you can't even view the speed i think this should be investigated and recalled because i it can create a unsafe environment to not only my vehicle but others as well.
Vehicle initially would not accelerate beyond 10 mph then completely lost power in the middle of rush hour traffic. local repair center reported issues with pcm and was unable to fix it. sent it to a ford dealer who confirmed issues with pcm that damaged the body throttle, 3 engine coils, and other parts. had to replace pcm and parts damaged by it resulting in a $2894.10 repair bill. the following day after repair, was again in the middle of rush hour traffic and the vehicle completely loss power again. this is a serious safety concern and based on research, a lot of people are experiencing the same thing. ford need to recall this issue. i'm so thankful my child was not in the vehicle during these events.
Both the rear tail/stop light bulb sockets melt from extreme bulb heat. this issue is posted by others all over the internet. this is a potential fire hazard that seriously needs addressing by ford. in the past i replaced the right rear bulb which is when i discovered the issue. yesterday i had to replace the left rear bulb and discoverd that socket too is melted along with the base of the bulb itself.
While driving down the road, the odometer suddenly drops to zero while still moving at the posted speed limit. the wrench symbol warning light in the dash comes on, as well as the airbag light. the mileage is then cleared, and the dash reads "odo error". pulled over, turned off the vehicle and removed the key from the ignition. go to turn the vehicle back on, car starts normally, all the warning lights are cleared. put the vehicle into reverse, and hear and feel a loud "clunk" as the vehicle shifts, and am able to back up normally. when shifting back into drive, the rpms jump up, the car shifts and makes the loud "clunk", and when pushing the accelerator, the vehicle barely moves. it will occasionally come back and the vehicle will return to it's normal running state, but then it will eventually returned to the defective state. no odometer while driving, no power if you stop leaving you stranded.
Dash board lights completely out. when car is in drive rpm not appearing also gauges not working. compass data error appears up with red battery symbol
Right rear tail lamp is burnt and turn signal no longer works. i've noted many instances of this occurring on line. there should be a safety recall as this has a fire potential.
Right wheel well vibrates when i turn and drive over50 miles hour transmission jerks like its not engaging to next gear from a stop or when driving under mph back left brake light burns out every other day . brakes are sqeeling and sound like metal scraping but no indicator has come on for the abs to to be replace must module not working correctly cause mot coding anything with tranny jerking either ford edge is peice of (xxxx) i never by american again
My turn signal bulb socket fries repeatedly. this will be the fourth time in 2 years replacing it. it burns up the socket and melts the bottom of the light bulb. i got the parts from ford dealership also but i have read online any people having issues with it. it just goes out all of a sudden.
Noticed the r/h brake light was out. went to change the bulb and found the socket is burned and chard. i removed the l/h signal light and found the exact same situation. this is a serious fire hazard and a quick on-line search found multiple similar situations. a coworker of mine with exact same vehicle had the exact same thing happen.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 45 mph, the odo data error message illuminated. also, the wrench icon and tire pressure module failure indicators illuminated. the dealer was not called. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and error code: p0720 (speed control sensor) was located. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure was not repaired. the failure mileage was 168,378.
Seat caught on fire due to seat warmer electrical malfunction my vehicle was not in motion it was parked
Tail light and blinker baulb keep melting and burning
Both taillight sockets were found burnt. brand new light bulb was not making sufficient contact in the socket to illuminate (light bulb was not bad). defect was found when replacing bulbs due to non-functioning rear turn signal.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 25 mph, the wrench icon and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the accelerator pedal failed to work and the vehicle gradually came to a complete stop. the speed on the odometer and the tachometer was incorrect. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road, turned off, and turned on the vehicle. the vehicle was returned to normal. the failure recurred and the vehicle failed to restart. the vehicle automatically restarted and the speed automatically increased from 0 to 70 mph. the contact applied the brakes to reduce the speed. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 105,929. *bf *tr

Made a turn off interstate into a busy road, my vehicle jerked and lost its ability to accelerate. leaving me in a very dangerous situation with cars flying around me to avoid hitting me. i managed to make it into a parking lot. i had a friend check the vehicle and with the hood up he had me put in reverse and it looked like the motor was going to jump out of the vehicle, same happened in drive. he put his computer on and a code for the drive speed sensor was present. the code was cleared and then noticed the speed and rpm gauges were inaccurate. this happens on occasion. upon research i see this sensor has a recall on it but not for my year 08 edge. please recall asap. this can cause some seriously bad accident when your vehicle looses its ability to accelerate when in traffic. i fear this will happen and my life is in the line. ford is aware there is a apparent problem noted by other year make model recalls. note: this is the original complaint.....................today the same has happened again, i was greeted by horns blowing and aggressive drivers but was unable to do anything but coast to the next intersection to turn off. nhtsa pleasw do something if possible. this output drive speed sensor is going to get someone killed soon. there are numerous complaints throughout this feed under scattered categories mainly because most do not know what the problem is and dealers cant figure out if the vehicle doesn't throw up a code. i had mine checked when the warning light was on so i would know the issue. unfortunately the dealer couldn't help because we cleared the code. i checked into geeting this fixed but according to the dealer the part is unavailable, and the labor would be absurd if they had to replace. please help!
Heater on driver sidebar blows extremely cold. luke warm on passenger side. multiple reports of this.
Vehicle continously fries turn signal lamps. i've replaced 12 of them since we bought it 4 years ago. every 4-6 months it actually melts the bulb housing and i have to pry it out. if the vehicle catches fire i plan to sue ford. no pattern to when they burn it. completely random but i've saved photos of each one.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that various warning indicators randomly flashed on the instrument panel/cluster. when the accelerator pedal was applied, the rpms raced, but the vehicle was slow to gain speed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no recommended solution. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
Driver's door ajar light comes on. making a dining sound continuously, turning interior car lights on, and won't allow doors to lock. but the door is shut. this concerns me with the lights turning on at night, and what if i really do have a door that isn't shut. this can happen as soon as you start the car, or later while driving down the road.
Rear taillights melting in their sockets.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that the battery died without warning. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v024000 (air bags). the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the contact called bob valenti ford (72 jerry brown rd, mystic, ct 06355, (888) 699-3309) and was informed that the parts were not available. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 46,678. vin tool confirms parts not available. **tr *tr
Found the vehicle with a dead battery this morning. battery is only 1.5 months old. jump started the vehicle and then found that while running and doors closed, the door ajar light was on and all dome lights. checked all doors multiple times, still would not shut off. tried to lock doors while engine running and since the car believed a door was opened it immediately unlocked all the doors. not looking forward to traveling with a risk of a dead battery again or on the highway with no ability to lock the doors. seems ford has exact same issues with other models. they need to recall the 08s as well.
Left rear tail light burned out check bulb come to find out the socket is burned brown and the socket very crisp falling apart due to over heated socket this should be replaced by ford. this may cause a fire hazard, take your vehicle to the dealer and have this checked before you have a fire!!! i found this when i checked to see if the turn signal/brake light were working.
My 2008 ford edge (since i brought it) has been having the same issue. when driving the vehicle, all of the lights on the panel will light up( wrench light, airbag light, tire pressure light...etc) the odometer will go off and have only dashes, the car will then have a loss of acceleration. the car feels like it is trying really hard to stay in gear or change gears.this will happen on the highway going 60mph as well as local roads at lower speeds. i will have to put my hazards on and pull over on the side. we figured out that if you disconnect the cables on the battery for a few minutes then reconnect the car will then run again ok. this is a serious hazard. i have almost been hit several times on the highway due to this issue and have been hit from behind getting on the highway already. i have taken the car to ford several times only to be told that there is "no code reading" so they can not diagnose the problem. i have researched this to find out if other ford edges have the same issue and i came across a slew of other ford edge owners with the same issue. i have contacted ford several times to be told that there are no recalls on this. *tr
While driving my 2008 ford edge, the "wrench" light comes on and my car loses all power. when i step on the gas it is like i am in neutral my car will not drive. this is extremely dangerous especially in traffic. i am so scared i am going to be rear-ended. i did a lot of research and found many others have the same issue. apparently it is the electronic throttle body. *tr
Transmission disengages at random while moving in traffic. once it occurs, vehicle cannot be moved under it's own power. engine runs, but transmissions slips. high potential for being stranded in traffic and struck. has occurred at least 4 times. was able to coast to side of road. electronics in dash act up, including service wrench and no speedometer. apparently a known issue by ford (tsb 07-21-11). lots of common complaints online involving 2007-2008 model edges. related to faulty sensors (aa5z-7h103-b & aa5z-7m101-b). *tr
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags); however the part for the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. also, while driving, the panoramic roof cracked without warning. the contact mentioned that the vehicle started to jerk and became inoperable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the coil was burned out and the computer, ecm, and sun roof needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 134,000. updated 06/08/17*lj updated 08/15/2017*js
My vehicle ford edge model 2008, lost control as well as speed when the wrench light came to the dashboard, immediately after the airbag light lit up, i had little or no engine power to engage gear to keep up with traffic speed. my speed dropped to 40 miles or less per hour. very dangerous situation because at that moment the odometer lighting also went off. driving on a highway at night no one drives below 40 miles per hour, made the situation pretty grave and dangerous. the problem comes from the power train faulty sensors near the transmission need to be replaced costing over $800,00, as for the airbag i haven't received a invoice yet.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 50 mph, the odometer and air bag indicators illuminated. also, the speedometer was at zero. the contact drove to a stop sign and rolled to side. the vehicle was coasted to a fuel station and then towed to the contact's residence. a local dealer was contacted and asked that the vehicle be brought to the shop for diagnostic testing. the contact also stated that the battery was corroded. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 120,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition coil, power control module, and catalytic converter failed and would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 117,000. ..updated 11/21/16 *bf
As everyone else, loses acceleration, shut off and it seems fine later. high rpm no power, as if it cant shift. no error lights, shaking along with sputtering when it has a load.....very dangerous as i drive major highway daily. has been happening more frequently now
First i was driving when my breaks started to feel like they were locking up. come to find out it was the power break booster which cost me $504.00. then 2 weeks later my car starts to do a putting feeling and come to find out 2 of the coils burnt up the power control module costing me $1058.00. a few months before this it was in the ford dealership because of a leak on the fuel pump. costing me $216. i am furious i have had to spend this in the last month. i just seen on the news that ford has a recall on the power control module but it was not my year. i am simply asking if someone would please look into this so maybe i can get some of this money back to pay off the debt it caused me.
My radio has a short in the hardware. factory installed radio and it will turn off and turn back on repetitively some days, not allowing me to utilize sync. transmission has started kicking intermittently for the past month. while driving and slowing down.
When i was driving to work all of a sudden my airbag and wrench light came on and i have no speedometer or tachometer reading. if i pulled over and starting driving again i had very little pickup even though the rpms were over 2,000. there is also a very loud clunk when you put it in drive or reverse.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 70 mph, the instrument panel illuminated and the speedometer fluctuated down to zero. the contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and restarted it after ten minutes. the contact stated that an abnormal sound emitted from the transmission area after the vehicle was restarted. the vehicle was shifted into the drive position and operated normally. the failure recurred several times in the past year. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle began to jerk and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition coil exploded and damaged the pcm. multiple coils and the pcm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 84,781.
The blinkers stop working. you do not know this until cop stops you. upon inspection i found that the socket had melted and had that molted look to them. the light bulbs had burnt out. this needs to be looked into since it is a potential fire hazard. here is another complaint in your records reagarding the same issue- crash:no fire:no number of injuries:0 number of deaths:0 manufacturer: ford motor company vehicle identification no. (vin): 2fmdk38c48b... summary: rear turn light sockets burn up with no warning light to display that your rear lights no longer work. you do not know until the police pulls you over to tell you which can result in fines. i had to pay to replace both rear light sockets (approx. $150)
Ac problems quit cooling.
After driving for a while (roughly a few hours) the edge does this hard jerk forward that feels like i'm practically being rear ended. it's like a hard pause, before it jerks forward. then it gradually accelerates. also, on a few occasions, while pulling out of a parking lot, the edge did not want to accelerate though i was pressing on the gas. mind you, i wasn't going fast because i had barely pulled out of the parking stall when this occurred. it barely accelerated then gradually came to a complete stop while in drive. this has also happened while i was exiting the freeway once. i initially thought my battery was the problem, but i had it replaced the following morning. i took it to the dealership and i was told nothing was wrong with it. this was the same response i got when i've taken it to ford during the term of my warranty. i have noticed that if the "check engine light" isn't on, nor if you're not paid out of pocket, ford does not recognize a problem. this problem is quite worrisome considering i'd hate to be stranded with my children in an intersection. i live in a very town (los angeles county) where traffic is steady and aggressive so knowing this problem can happen anytime is unsettling, especially because i have been rear ended once for not being able to proceed with traffic at a green light. 2008 ford edge, purchase in 2012
Drivers side rear turn signal bulb melted the socket from excessive heat.
