We have classified the 238 complaints from 2008 Ford Edge about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
This has now happened to me twice with both my small children in the car while on the highway, at highway speeds. t he speedometer went to 0, the maintenance wrench display lit up, along with the error message "tire pressure monitor fault" (or something to that effect) and i was unable after stopping at a stop light to accelerate almost causing the person behind me to rear end me. once getting to my home when putting the car into park it makes a loud clunking noise then proceeds to jerk the entire vehicle. after letting the car sit for an hour i tried to turn it one once again and test driving a few feet forward, it only moved at a slow pace when gas pedal applied. *tr
I was stoped at stop sign my 2008 ford edge with no signs of problems. when i started to pull out there was low power and the wrench signal went on. car would not go faster then 5mph. i was very concerned for cars in back of were impatient and passing. i researched this problem on the inertnet and it seems to be happening with alot of these make and model cars. *tr
Loss of power to the extent of next to no acceleration, transmission not shifting smoothly or correctly, odometer blanks out with dashes, speedometer quits working, airbag light and transmission wrench illuminate in the gauge cluster. *tr
While driving down van born road (heavy traffic) the speedometer stopped and went to 0 mph, the odometer read dashes, the wrench illuminated in the corner, and the airbag warning sign appeared. the rpm's in my vehicle began to climb higher as well and the car speedometer did not indicate any mph and began to decrease, after slowing down at ta red light i noticed my car would barely move and it slowly crept until i got home 1/2 mile from when i noticed the problem start. as soon as i parked other warning lights began flashing such as the tire pressure sign. i turned the car off and then back on and i experienced a hard start, which was loud, and when i went to change gears the car jerked violently as if the motor was jumping. when placing in reverse gear the jerk was even more violent, loud noise as if the engine was dropping out or i was being rear ended. i turned the car off and back on to see if the warning signals were still illuminated and they reset. when trying to see if the car would move i had to push the gas pedal almost all the way to the floor before the car would even move a little bit and again the rpm's revved really high. i ended up calling a tow truck this morning 8/20/14 and they stated that the transmission is trying to skip first gear and go directly to second gear; my car is currently in the shop. prior to this incident i experienced occasional jerking while driving and the car was switching gears. it was very scary being a female and not knowing much about mechanics. only 49,000 miles. *tr
Driving down the highway at night at approx. 70 mph. all the warning lights came on in the dash. the speedo and odometer stopped working. no noise or vibrations noted. pulled off exit and stopped at stop sign. car would not move after pressing accelerator. rpms very high and car began to roll forward. eventually got up to 20mph. stopped in parking lot. shut car off for a few minutes. restarted car and put into reverse. loud bang and shudder. felt like transmission was going to explode. backed up, put car in drive, same violent reaction from transmission. drove to destination and parked overnight. next morning all was fine. transmission appeared to function normally and all dash instrumentation was working. occurred in summer of 2014.
The vehicle stalls at low speeds and at red lights and stop signs without warning and without great consistency. this happens multiple times per day/trip with no resolution. dealer and independent mechanic cannot identify the problem as no codes are thrown when it happens and it restarts after stalling. this is a significant safety issue. *tr
2008 ford edge: i was stopped at an intersection pulling out into traffic after driving normally for about 15 minutes. when i hit the accelerator their was no power and the car inched forward at low speed and the rpms increased dramatically. i was able to hit the brake before an oncoming vehicle almost hit my drivers side as i was attempting to take a left. once i was able to pull over in a safe location, i put it in park and tried to re-engage the transmission in drive. the vehicle was still unresponsive, no power to accelerate. i then shut off the car and restarted and the car behaved normally after the restart. i have had this car for 3 years with no similar issues. this is a safety concern because there is no warning sign and the car does not accelerate as expected. i was lucky that i was able to stop in time without getting hit by the oncoming traffic. *tr
When driving the vehicle the power train problem indicator light and check engine light come on and the car loses all power. car will not exceed 900 rpm and will barely move. i had the trouble codes read and it is indicating that the throttle is showing stuck closed and open. i believe that this is the same issue as with several other ford models and should have been part of the extended warranty that covered the throttle bodies from several other models. this issue poses a serious safety risk do to the fact that it has happened several times and at various speeds, if this were to happen at highway speeds in heavy traffic it could be horrible. i have researched this problem extensively online and found that it is a fairly common issue with the edge. *tr
While driving down the highway the speedometer stopped and went to 0 mph, the odometer read dashes, the wrench illuminated in the corner, and the airbag warning sign appeared. the rpm's in my vehicle began to climb higher as well and the car speed began to decrease, again i was on the highway. i got off an exit about 1.5 miles from when i noticed the problem start. after slowing down at the end of the exit i noticed my car would barely move and it slowly crept until i was at a safe spot to park. as soon as i parked other warning lights began flashing such as the tire pressure sign and another that i can not remember. i turned the car off and then back on and i experienced a hard start, which was loud, and when i went to change gears the car jerked violently as if the motor was jumping. when placing in reverse gear the jerk was even more violent as if i was being rear ended. i turned the car off and back on multiple times and changed the gears and each time it did the same thing. when trying to see if the car would move i had to push the gas pedal almost all the way to the floor before the car would even move a little bit and again the rpm's revved really high. i ended up calling a tow truck and my car is currently in the shop. prior to this incident i experienced occasional jerking while driving and the car was switching gears. *tr
Entering highway and auto would not shift gears or accelerate. stayed idle at over 5 rpm's and had to pull off the road. seemed like a transmission problem. towed to repair shop for assessment.still at shop. this vehicle on multiple occasions before this incident has regularly engaged in a violent jerk when i have engaged it in drive or reverse. seems like a transmission issue but dealer wont do anything unless they can duplicate problem. i have seen and know of numerous other ford edge owners that have had the same issue and no fix has been found or dealer and ford wont fix unless it duplicated the issue while they have the vehicle and most times its something not covered. this is a serious safety issue and they need to be held accountable. *js
I own a 2008 ford edge. recently i noticed my edge having a hard time shifting into fast mode. i took it to the ford dealership, nothing is wrong. today it was horrible!!! i get to the stop light, my edge would not "take off" like the other cars. i sat there embarrassed for two mins trying to press the accelerator, edge finally jerked and then took off. i am very disappointed in ford. i can't believe they have not recalled this edge. now, i have to pay to get edge fixed when ford could fix the issue,. there are thousands of people complaining about this vehicle. *tr
I see similar complaints on your web site, about rough shifting into reverse from the parked position and when backing up from the drive position. is there a planed recall for this issue? *tr
In may, i was traveling at 55 miles an hours, when my car lurched forward and all the dashboard lights came on. the speedometer stopped showing my speed, the rpm's maxed out, lost all low gears, and the accelerator was not responding properly. i went and had the transmission looked at and the oil changed, engine flushed, etc. several weeks later i had the same problem. after a short time the car started responding properly again. on 11/14/2014, i was traveling at 60 mph and experienced the same thing for the 3rd time. once i got to a safe location i pulled over. when i put the car in park it made a terrible noise. i called roadside assistance to tow the car to the dealership. the dealership has said it is the transmission but have yet to determine the exact problem. i do not feel the power train of this vehicle is safe! other problems that have occurred since owning the vehicle: lunging at red lights when brakes are engaged (sometimes feels like i have been rear ended), electrical running to rear lights is melted, excessive amount of corrosion on the battery cables, rear wheels/brakes growling causing excessive wear on brakes (brakes went out coming to a stop sign one day), radiator fan problems, failure of the coolant fan 2 times and was replaced, tubing for windshield spray eroded. *tr
Transmission seems to be a issue with the ford edge. why has there not been a recall on this product? so many complaints on the ford edge transmission. i witness this first hand, may 2, 2014. while driving on the high way, my car out of know where seem to have lost power. the only thing that was moving was the rpm, but the car was slowing down. finally after pulling to the side of the highway, and turning the car off, it reset some how and at least got me to work. i had to get the car towed from work back home because i did not want to run into the same issue. i did research and seems like i have not been the only one with this issue. matter of fact there is a long list on you tube. what has ford done to correct this issue. other than repeatedly taking income from hard working consumers, for a issue that has not been resolved. *tr
Wrench light and airbag light on, lost acceleration on incoming traffic, violent jerk when switching from drive to park and vice versa. multiple complaints all over the internet with same issue. acts like a transmission issue when it's just faulty sensor tss and or oss sensor needs replacement to fix the issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that while at a complete stop, the malfunction indicator, the tire pressure monitoring system, and air bag warning lights illuminated. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle lost acceleration power and failed to shift gears. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 72,000.
My wife and i were driving on the freeway, with the cruise control on. at random the care kicked out on cruise and the speedometer was not working, we also had tire pressure warning, engine service warning, air bag warning and no odometer. we made it to the freeway exist, however when we went to accelerate the car barely moved. the engine would rev at high rpm's but would just crawl. we made it to our house (barely) and parked the car. the shift into park was very violent and made the care jump. with my foot on the brake i would shift from p to n, then n to r, then r to d and same order back to park. each change was very violent. i turned the engine off, let it sit for about 1 minute, turned the car back on and the warning lights were gone and the odometer was back to normal. however, when i went to drive again the shift was still violent, i had not power (high rev and barely moved) and no speedometer. the car is currently in my driveway with that being the current state. i have done some research online and this appear to be a very common issue for these vehicles. *tr
On the way home from a vacation, we pulled into a fast food restaurant to get a quick bite to eat. upon leaving the restaurant, we started the vehicle and everything seemed normal. about three minutes into our drive home, the dash lights came on (specifically the wrench and air bag lights) and the vehicle lost all throttle power. we quickly pulled over and turned off the car to see if we could diagnose the problem ourselves. after being unsuccessful at identifying the problem, we started the car again and attempted to put the car in drive. the transmission produced a loud "clunking" sound. each time you tried to change gears (i.e. reverse to drive), there would be an extremely harsh engagement and the gear change would be rough, each time producing a loud "clunk". i brought the car to a local mechanic who advised this is a common issue with ford edge's, in fact; there is a tsb bulletin (07-21-11) regarding the issue. this problem stems from a short in the output shaft speed (oss) sensor and the turbine shaft speed (tss) sensors. as i read the tsb bulletin, this issue should be covered by the manufactures emissions warranty, the dealership disagrees. this issue can be found in abundance with the 2008 ford edge vehicle. in a brief search online, i found a large number of complaints regarding this same problem from owner edge owners. my complaint is that i believe this should be a recall issue and it should happen immediately. in this instance, i wasn't in harm's way, but in previous instances i have been in the middle of an intersection and lost the ability to accelerate, which is undoubtedly a terrifying experience. i am requesting your assistance in moving forward with this complaint as i'm not sure where else to turn. thank you very much. *tr
When i put into gear the transmission jerks into gear. all the vehicle codes go off at once. one incident i lost power when i came to a stop at an intersection. i accelerated and vehicle hesitated to accelerate. the. speedometer read zero and i was clearly going over 40mph. i have only had the vehicle 7mos. i took it in for service at the ford dealer twice and was told it was nothing and that it might be the battery. today is the final straw. i am writing this at the ford dealer. the transmission is jerking way to much. it is unsafe to drive. and they are trying to put me in a new car..i want my car fixed. . *tr
Popping noise made from front driver side tires when turning left, at gear change transmission jerks, powertrain awd malfunction light came on , truck would not accelerate into 2nd gear loud grinding noise made, censor had to be replaced, popping noise still exist in left front tire
For over a year when my car had less than 100k and still under extended warranty my transmission started slipping and slamming into gear on takeoff. i took to ford dealer ship and they ran disnostics and found nothing wrong but reprogramed the computer. that did not fix the issue. the car continues to todays to slip and slam on take off, the odometer bounces and the engine start cutting out/loosing power. again the dealer said if the computer is not setting codes they cannot fix. now at 110k out of warranty the problem continues just getting worse. i believe by reading the blogs that this is a large issue that ford knows about but refuses to admit bad transmission design and will not recall. i think they should either fix the issue at their cost or buy back the vehcile. i am sure the main issue is the cost to ford to fix the issue and they know what the problem is. they are more worried their stock holders that their customers. i guess they will need a bailout if they keep this trend up. i used to hold ford as a quality company, with quality products, but no longer. the foreign car companies are producing a better quality product. i just want my car fixed or replaced. I bought a certified pre owned 2008 edge in june 2013. i first experienced the hard jerking probably early 2014 or maybe in the winter of 2013. it had trouble shifting up when came to a complete stop. this happened several times and i took the car to the dealership but they couldn't reproduce it. they fixed a transmission leak and updated some software on two separate visits. both times the problem went away for a few days and then came back again. it was not serious enough then. this year it occurs more often (usually in the stop and go traffic) and there is also abrupt jerk when the car shifts up from 10-20 mph or from 20-30 mph. the powertrain malfunction symbol came on today. but after i let the car sit for half an hour and restarted it, the symbol was gone. i'm taking it to the dealership soon and hope they can do something. the problem seems to only occur in cold weather. there are many people complaining about this issue online. it could be dangerous if it happens at an intersection or on a highway. ford should recall these cars because they are unsafe to drive. *tr
2008 ford edge on occasion will jerk when taking off
On dec 6, 2013,when starting the car after sitting for<3 hours then shifting the car into gear the car acts like it is not in gear, races the engine and the speedometer shows a speed unrelated to actual movement. there is slow movement but no actual gear engagement. car was taken to local ford dealer who spent several days to repair the transmission. one april 20 the same episode occurred but this time i was pulling into traffic which could have caused an accident. the same symptoms occurred. *tr
The car seems to run fine in town. if it is driven about 20 miles or so on the highway, it develops the following drive train problem. when the vehicle slows or comes to a stop and the driver then accelerates, such as when driving in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway or leaving a stop light, it seems like the transmission and engine quit talking to each other and they come uncoupled during shifting. since the gas pedal is depressed for accelerating, during the shift, the engine rpm revs up to perhaps 3000 and then the transmission abruptly shifts resulting in a heavy shock to the drive line. it does this between each gear during acceleration upshifting. if the vehicle is stopped and the transmission is shifted into reverse, there is a delay and then it shifts into reverse resulting in a similar heavy shock. i had several occurrences where i came off the freeway and stopped at the light and upon attempting to get going again, the engine was running and would rev up but the transmission was not engaged. i shifted into park and back into drive and the vehicle finally got going again with the same symptoms noted above. it seems to react the same regardless of whether the od is engaged or disengaged. we took the vehicle to one of the local ford stores several weeks ago and they said they could not recreate the symptoms. i took it to a different service department perhaps a month later and they could not find a real problem but said all the codes were fine. they deleted the adaptive transmission files and uploaded new files and the problem was fixed even though they were not sure what they did to fix it. a lengthy drive a day later went well, no problems. but on the way into work in on april 3rd the same problems are back. it's back in the shop again april 7th. not sure what's next. maybe the factory can offer advice? thanks *tr
When driving at low speeds and the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd gear there is a very hard jerk when the shift is made. also have had issues with the transmission going into a fail safe mode which puts it into 5th gear when you are trying to take off and the acceleration is very slow. could lead to an accident while trying to cross traffic and you expect to be able to take off in first gear and have proper acceleration. *tr
While driving down my residential street my vehicle acted like it was shifting gears with a jerk and loud clunk. this has happened numerous times in the past as well. turned od off and it did not do it again until od was back on again. *tr
The car is leaking transmission fluid at the ptu seal. *tr
On the freeway it felt like the car hit a hard bump exiting the freeway there was no longer any acceleration. the engine would rev way up but there was very little forward movement. it seemed as if the transmission was not shifting into the lower gears. i was very lucky to get through the quickly approaching traffic, without getting hit or someone else getting hit as the cars weaved around me. at a stop, i shifted into low with no change. i turned the over drive on and off with no change. i shifted into reverse and there was quite a big bang and the whole car shook (this was similar to what i felt on the freeway when i thought i hit a bump). shifting back into drive, it was the same, lots of rpm and very little movement forward, as if i was starting in fourth gear. turning off the engine i looked for any signs of fluid leaking or other indications of damage. nothing was evident. after starting the car and shifting it into drive, it worked just fine. an internet search revealed that this is a common problem as there are hundreds of postings and even a few you-tube videos of the actual problem i experienced. ford even has a service bulletin 103100 dated 4/24/13. postings report transmission rebuilds (at over $4,000.00) and the problem still recurred. successful repairs seem to center around a firmware, computer upgrade and replacement of turbine sensors and solenoids. with only 70,000 miles on this car i should not be having transmission problems. the service manager at the ford dealership knew all about this problem and said it would take three days to repair at just under $1,000.00. he also said that they stock the parts for this repair (a strange comment). on the internet i found that most repairs took weeks because none of the dealers stocked the parts. now it seems that this problem is so prevalent that many if not all the dealers are now stocking these parts. *tr
The car would act like it was in 2nd or 3rd gear when you tried to go from a stop. you would have to give it a lot of gas to move and there were also times in the past where it would go but would not shift into 2nd gear for a longer than normal time. the first time it happened i turned the car off and then it started working. no warning lights ever came on until on oct 25th when i was trying to go from a stop and the car was hardly moving. warning lights started coming on so i went straight to the dealer and kept it running so it would not clear any codes. they ended up replacing the oss and tss sensors in the transmission. *js
While traveling on the expressway the car began making a funny noise. after the noise started the wrench (warning) light came on, and then the care begin to decelerate and i was still pressing the gas pedal. i was able to exit the expressway. the car would not accelerate as normal, and made revving noises when the gas pedal was pressed, but would not move initially. *jb
This occurred multiple times with my ford edge. i will be driving a highway speeds, and on the dashboard: 1. the odometer turns from numbers to dashes 2. the speedometer stops working 3. various services lights will turn on (each time it happened, different lights came on) then,i brake to a full stop, the car loses all throttle, and i'm barely able to accelerate. when i go to shift gears, there is a harsh, clunking noise in the transmission as i'm shifting. i was told this was a defect in the speed sensors but it occurred a total of 4 times in about 8 months. i had to trade the car in because it was becoming too unsafe to drive. *tr
My 2008 ford edge was brought to the dealership after hearing a "clunking" noise and smelling exhaust coming from the under carriage. the dealership diagnosed "...replace ptu assy fluid, had blown out vent...". the entire powertrain (583984) was replaced. this was the 2nd incident in 2 months. prior to this event i brought it to the dealership after experiencing "slipping" transmission. while coming to a stop, the transmission went into neutral. i left the car for several hours, then re-started and it ran fine. the dealership could not verify any problems. *tr
We were driving the vehicle and came to a stop sign. all of the sudden, when we hit the gas pedal, the vehicle barely moved and sounded like it was in neutral. this continued until we found a place to pull over. we put the vehicle in park, and it shifted really hard. it felt like somebody hit us from behind. it also shifted out of park very hard. we turned the car off and let it sit for a while. we started the car and it worked normal and we drove it right to the dealership. the dealership said they couldn't do anything to address the issue because they could not replicate the issue. our concern is that the vehicle is not safe to drive because it can stop accelerating at any point. the ford technician could not assure us that the vehicle was safe to drive. we contacted ford and they passed the buck back to the dealership. i understand that the dealership cannot do anything, but after reading numerous complaints of the same exact issue on forums and the nhtsa site, i feel that ford should offer some direction on how to fix this issue to their dealerships since it seems to be a common problem with the 2008 ford edge. *tr
During the month of july 2013, our 2008 ford edge would make a grinding noise at about 40 mph. the car had been serviced by a ford dealership in june 2013. prior to the service, my wife had been complaining about the noise so i decided to replace the rear brakes pads. the brake pads were only maybe 20 % worn but i went ahead and replaced them anyway. my wife had made similar complaints in the past which prompted me to check and replace the front brakes a few years ago. in july 2013 the noise persisted so we took the car to the ford dealership to check the problem. the ford mechanic determined that the front wheel bearings were failing. apparently, there is a flaw in design or workmanship that is allowing water to enter the bearing housing and to corrode the bearing inner and outer race. so, there would have been the potential for the bearings to over heat and lockup the wheels. the ford customer service and the dealership refused to extend the warranty given the time required for the bearings to corrode under these conditions. i requested the old parts after the repair and there is obvious corrosion on the ball bearings, the bearing race, and in the grease. there are other ford customers experiencing the same problem. the noise gets progressively worse over time that eventually you can hear it over the radio and conversations in the car. *tr
Loss of power, engine racing when gas applied, tachometer non responsive, sudden lunging of power. loud clunking like being rear ended. limped home, when i turned the car off then restarted, put it in reverse and a loud slamming noise like the clunking sound earlier and feeling of being rear ended. towed to dealership, over 2 weeks later (less than 2 months out of warranty and only 971 miles out of the 60,000 mile warranty) ford dealer told me that ford would not cover any of the cost and the $4,012.69 transmission repair cost was on me. hundreds of posts on the internet about this issue, including ford tsb - nhtsa: action number: 10039053 service bulletin number: 312104. but no help from ford. *tr
While trying to get on the highway at around 40 to 50 mph the vehicle would not accelerate and started to hesitate. the rpms went up but the shift did not happen for many seconds later and with a loud clunk when it did shift and then we would accelerate and it would make a sound again and down shift. we have taken it to dealer and they do not find any problem. after reading on the internet other people having the same problem with their 2008 ford edge awd limited, i cannot believe there is not a recall on this problem. *js
2008 ford edge. consumer writes in regards to power train malfunction. *smd the consumer stated twice this year, she experienced power train malfunction, where the vehicle lost power. *jb
While driving my car, all of sudden the car just stops with the dash board displaying everything. when try to restart the car, it sounds like the car is trying to start even after releasing the key but it doesn't start. all power is lost except for the lights and radio. the car will eventually start after a couple of minutes and you start driving and it happens again. had car towed to auto repair place where diagnostics didn't show anything. the mechanic did drive the car and it stalled on him. he thought it was the "fuel kill switch" because it reset it and the car started. the switch was replaced and the car ran fine for 2 days then while driving on the highway started loosing speed and was unable to accelerate. the rpm's decreased then jumped up like the car had restarted. this happened twice then i lost all power and had to coast over to the shoulder. *tr
This incident has occurred 3 times in the last year. after shopping for about 15 minutes, i start my car and it immediately make a harsh clunking sound when moving into drive gear. then i have little to no acceleration and my speedometer, etc does not work. the wrench symbol comes on. when putting the car into park, it makes a violent, harsh sound. the first 2 incidents, i let the car sit for over 24 hours. when i start after 24 hours the car works completely fine and all the symptoms go away. the most recent incident i had the car towed to dealership within 8 hours of incident. they were able to determine it was the turbine and speed sensors, which i had replaced. i am concerned about the safety of this vehicle and feel this should be a recall issue. *tr
My wife was driving her 2008 ford escape from work on a very busy highway when she stopped at a store got back in started the car she noticed that the airbag light was on speedometer had lines going thru it when she put it into gear it made a real loud banging sound and jerked as she was driving' the car lost compression did not have any power at all. she made it home without getting killed or killing someone i went out to see what was wrong and when i started the car it made a load banging 'when i put it into gear it was even worst we called a tow truck and had it towed where we had bought it at ----- ---- ----- -------- it's the only ford dealer close and they have a very poor record for backing their warranty's. it sounds to me to be the computer chip i have a warranty on it still so there should be no reason for them not to fix it but i will bet that they say that the warranty does not cover the power train but it does so if you are having this problem with your 2008 escape do not let the tell you that it is not covered if you have a warranty.the computer chip that operates your power train is part of the power train' if not for that the car would not move unless it was being towed if you work for ford and see all of these complaint's about the same thing going on with the 2008 escape's what is it going to take before ford step's up someone to get killed. *tr
While driving at highway speed (50 -65mph), foot off accelerator and car coasting startling loud bang from transmission and entire car jerks. put foot back on accelerator and everything seems to be working. does not do it all the time but at least once a week. the bang is loud and startling almost causing accident. could not repeat issues for ford service department and they did not detect any problem in transmission. the bang is so loud must doing damage to transmission. *tr
I have a 2008 ford edge sel that beginning last year started hesitating between 1st and 2nd gears and 1500-2000 rpm's. i have taken it to the dealership to have the computer for the transmission updated and it didn't fix the issue. the dealership can't seem to figure out the exact problem. but there are a lot of other people reporting this online as well. ford needs to put a recall out so that consumers like me can have this issue fixed. the car also bangs when put into reverse. please help! *tr
Approached a stop light on a hill. light turned green. did not have to come to a complete stop and when i accelerated the transmission jerked and made a loud noise. this has happened several times in my commutes. transmission fluid level is within normal range. *tr
Lately when driving my edge i noticed that when i come to a complete stop the car like jerks back and makes a loud bang sound-then when i try to drive after stopping the car doesn't want to go-it's like it is just stuck there, so i have to take my foot on the gas wait a few seconds than put my foot back on the gas and than the car will go but it seems like it takes forever to get some speed. the jerking and the car not wanting to accelerate has even happen when i have been driving around 20mph- i have replaced the battery thinking maybe it was the battery and nope that didn't work. this as a mother of 3 young children has me very concerned-i have seen many complaints with the same issues i have stated above and ford has yet to correct these defects. does someone need to lose their life before action is taken. *tr
Vehicle was taken to power ford in valencia for standard service a week ago. 41,000 miles new tires bought- was told all was ok. one week later i am driving when suddenly speedometer stops and mileage is reading --- grinding noise then a wrench icon appears which means the powertrain is malfunctioning, then the air bag light went on and then an ! icon which means there is a problem with tires. terrified, i called power ford and told to bring it in... i was less than a half a mile away, and put on my hazard lights and barely made it the few clocks to the dealership. this is a haunting problem that i have read at least a dozen comments about the power train. had i been ion the freeway i don't think i would be alive. please investigate this issue with the ford edge. i did not know the outcome at all. thank you *tr
The transmission failed. as i was driving down the road it clunked very loudly as it shifted and then wouldn't change gears. i stopped at a light and the car would not move. the engine was running but the car would not go. by downshifting manually i was able to move forward and then got it to the dealer. they diagnosed it as drive and reverse engage but it neutrals out in 4th, 5th and 6th. they found metal shavings and chunks in a sample of the fluid drained. we bought the car used from ford. it was a buy back from the previous customer because of leaky axel seals that could not be resolved. had the same issue and the dealer replaced seals and things seemed to be okay. transmission always clunked randomly; dealer thought it was mounts. once we got new transmission we realized the old one always had problems. this new one shifts completely smoothly, which in retrospect the old one did not. *tr
While driving on highway a big bang noise happens in the car, feels and sounds like i have been hit. the car doesn't stop, keeps driving. dealers technicians say they can't fix it or don't even know what it is because it doesn't happen all the time. it is such a violent bang and jerk. only does it right now anyway, on a long drive on a highway. i am over my warranty, so very upset, as my children are in this car everyday. just bought it and to trade it in i would loose so much money. you need to be doing recalls on this car where there are so many others posting this same problem on the ford forum. everyone saying it is transmission and when they replace it, it still doesn't work properly. this is crazy!! ford do something please!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
Edge had started to drive sluggish, could not get up to speed or get car into next gear. driving home from vacation, car was very sluggish going up hills and rpm needle would rev high before able to shift to next gear. check engine light came on with code of p061. found ford dealer locally who replaced filter. car drove better for 1/2 day, then back to sluggish and not able to change gears. took back to my ford dealer, replaced maf sensor and throttle body assembly for $645. 10 months later city driving in heavy traffic, car is starting to slip into sluggish mode and having trouble shifting to next gear. rpm needle revs high before shifting gear. will watch closely before taking back to dealer again. notice hundreds of complaints for same problem with the ford edge. *tr
Driving home from work at a speed of 55 to 65 on i-65 in montgomery, alabama when all of a sudden my car begin to not recognize the gas . it slowed down suddenly and the engine began to shake. i made it to an exit by driving slowly with hazard lights on. we took the car to gilmore ford the same day. on 11/8/12 we were informed that the pcm caused the coil pack (2) to not fire and therefore burned it up. i asked if this was a known problem with the car and was informed by [xxx] that he has only seen it once. well i decide to look into it via the web and found that this is a known defect in the pcm installed on ford edges. my thought is that had traffic been going faster i would have had an accident in the middle of the highway with how quickly the car speed shifted down. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
