All of the buttons stopped working in the driver's side door, along with the two back doors. the windows, locks, etc do not work because of this. the airbag light keeps turning off and on. now all of the wiring is acting like it is messed up. the brake lights keep coming on, the car randomly won't start, the overhead light comes on when the right blinker is used. now the car won't shift out of park 8/10 tries. the car also acts like it loses power randomly while driving in town. these problems have been listed as recalls, yet my car is not on the list.
I've had the car for 2 years. since i've had it, it would randomly not start, the heat would only work in the back vents. got everything fixed associated with starter, battery, everything. for the last 6 months, my engine like has been on, and an esp light. i got the engine checked, brakes fixed, routers, brake pedal switch replaced and it's still doing the exact thing. gear won't shift sometimes but it isn't the transmission.now they are saying possible electrical issue but this has been going on for months! after i've put more than 1000 into everything that has not fixed the issue.
Takata recall on my vehicle is possible with my transmission. while i was in motion and in drive my vehicle began to rev and not gain any speed. takata recall, my cruise control light come on when in park but does not work while i am driving.

I bought a 2009 dodge journey in april of 2017. a week after having it the problems started. first it was a backing plate...no big deal...then it was the transfer case...then my speedometer quit working and a few lights on the dash board. i was thankful that they tried fixing it over several months. then they said we will give you 6,000 for it....when i paid a little over 10,000 for it...no way! then september came around for inspection and i told them it sounds loud could you take a look at the exhaust. well they passed the inspection....i took it back a week later and said it still sounds loud...well you need a whole new exhaust! why did you pass it knowing it needed this? i was told well at least you can still drive it. here i am a year later for another inspection and it won't pass now because of the exhaust...i asked about the speedometer and their response was we will let that slide because it's been a ongoing problem since you bought it. so is it ok for them to be doing this to me? no speedometer...miles on it are definitely not right because they don't move...i have 3 children i drive around in this car...i have to drive my son to pittsburgh children's hospital every so often. am i in the wrong or are they? i was never asking for any money back or a brand new car...i was only asking for them to make it right with us and they think they have.
Bought 2009 dodge journey new. with only 12,143 miles (19.818 km) i had to have rotors and brakes replaced due to them rusting out. this was done in germany by a dodge dealer. a policy adjustment was made. then with only 27,000 miles on the vehicle i had to replace the brake pads and the rotors needed to be turned. then with 43,148 miles i had to once again replace all brake pads, front rotors and the rear rotors were able to be machined. this is the work i had done at san diego dodge dealer. when i had the work done in may 2016 i took the vehicle back in aug 2016 due to a squeaking noise coming when brakes applied. was told it was from new brakes and i should just pump them and it should go away. i tried to do this but noise remained so i took vehicle back in nov 2016 and was told that the brakes were "dirty" and they could clean them for $134 or i could once again pump them and it should stop. i tried again their recommendation and then decided to take for second opinion so took to perry's dodge in national city, ca on 3 april 2017 and was informed that i the vehicle needed all four brakes and the rear rotor needed replaced with the front rotor needing machined. i would think that for a vehicle having only 53,000 miles and having 4 brake jobs and now needing another one that something is wrong. i contacted dodge customer service rep (royal) who basically said that according to the san diego dodge dealership that this is normal wear and tear but they did open email case number: 3336076 and reference number: 29272328. i have read many reviews that basically say that the 2009 and 2010 dodge journey's brake system were not made to hold the weight of the vehicle. dodge will not claim this error and so us who bought this vehicle when it first came out are stuck with performing brake jobs every 10,000 miles.
Over the last 3 years i have had an excessive amount of work done on my brakes. on the front wheels, both have had 3 new sets of rotors, 2 of which had to be resurfaced, 3 sets of brake pads, 2 new calipers for the left and 1 for the right, 1 brake hose and 1 hub bearing for the left. the rear tires have had a new set of rotors, which were resurfaced today, and a new hub bearing on the rear left. the vehicle has never been wrecked, and i can confidently say my driving is not the cause of this issue. when the brakes have gone bad, i hear a squeal, there is vibration in the wheel and the brake pedal, and the car would pull to the left or the right, depending on which caliper needed to be replaced. this is a serious safety hazard that needs to be addressed on a much higher level than on the consumer's dime.
Suspension parts failing constantly, front tie rods, sway bars, struts, ball joints, bushings wear after 10,000 a 15,000 miles. as a result alignment is off and cause unusual wear on the tires resulting in rough uncomfortable ride. brakes get hot and wear/ squeak after 10k miles, sometimes sooner resulting in hub cap dust and paint chipping. rear tie rods go bad resulting in rear camber being offset and inside of tires wear real quick. right side door locks have to be manually locked/ unlocked. intermittent not starting problems, win module already replaced once due to recall. driver side window up and down buttons broke off. front dash rattles bad when taking off/ going over bumps. rear left side door hinge got loose resulting in spring popping off, now door won't stay open and closes by itself, that's the door that's least used.
My 2009 dodge se journey has had several problems including some under open recall, electrical recall. however my brakes are very bad,abs light and brake light frequently come on and off. the brakes act as if i have no brakes or pressure, until they are half way down then they over engage causing the vehicle to suddenly stop or significantly slow at unsafe pace. i have contacted chrysler there is no recall at this time. this is an unsafe vehicle all around and complete recall should be in effect. this problem has occurred since we purchased the vehicle and has not stopped.
This is 3rd time my journey's brakes need replacing. this time my cost 1683.00---im on ssdi---low income---really punched me,. horrible predicament to be in--please contact me if any costs are reimbursed by chrysler-dodge. help!!
While driving at a speed of 45 mph on a road that is rated for 55 mph, the left driver side tire separated from the car. while trying to control the car by hitting the brakes the car speed began to increased.
While driving this vehicle, when you go to use the brakes they become 'mushy'. you have to push on the brakes all the way to the floor before the vehicle will even try to stop. we have replaced the brakes already since purchasing the vehicle and now not sure what to do. yesterday while i was driving down the highway, traffic came to a complete stop. i had to push on the brakes very hard. the tires actually squealed, the car jerked, and you could feel the brake give a jerking feeling below my foot. fortunately, i did not have my babies with me this time. another incident that has happened this week is when the tires squealed when i was trying to turn right at a light and could not get the vehicle to slow down enough on a decline. this is very scary and i hope this is fixed very soon. i have looked at other sites and notice that there are a lot of brake issues with this particular vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving at any speed, the esp and abs lights illuminated and the vehicle lost power. afterwards, all four brakes locked up and smoke appeared. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. the fire department was called and diagnosed that the two front brakes had locked up. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was later driven to the dealer. the dealer diagnosed that the failure occurred due to wear and tear. the master cylinder, rotors, brake caliber, and all four brakes were replaced; however, the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 168,924.
I' got this car and the repairs never stopped coming. i've replaced the brakes & rotors 4 times in 3 years. i had to pay to have the car re-wired due to electrical problems & add a starter, replaced hoses. shocks and ball joints. this has to be the worst vehicle ever.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle vibrated severely. a loud squealing noise was heard from the two front wheels. the failure occurred constantly. in addition, fumes of smoke appeared from the two front wheels. the dealer claimed the brakes were completely new. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rotors and brakes for the front wheels needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 78,000.
Brake rotors warped. trouble stopping. steering wheel shaking when brakes applied.
We bought the car new in april of 2009. in august of 2012 brakes started acting 'sticky and jerky'. took it back to the dealership just because of the brakes (had extended warranty). we had a strong feeling it had something to do with the esp bas system. they didn't even look at it before saying 'no' it wasn't the esp bas system. through multiple dealership service visits, oil changes and such; brakes stayed constantly jerky. 2+ years ago i went into dealership for tire rotation and oil change and they told me i'd have to replace my brakes soon. unhappy with the long wait and cost of service at the dealership i've been taking the journey into another shop where i asked them to check my brakes and they said they were fine. yesterday while driving approx. 35mph the esp bas lights came on and all of a sudden the brakes weren't sticky or jerky. they worked like they were supposed to in the first place. the esp bas (yellow) lights will not turn off. i know sooner or later i'll have to replace the brakes because they put such shoddy ones on at the factory, but the problem with the esp bas is a computer problem that effected the brake system and it should have been addressed by the dealership. between the poor dismissive way the dealership handled this esp bas problem (didn't even test drive) and the cheap brakes dodge installed. i will never buy a vehicle from either of them again.
We have had to every few weeks change either the rotors or the hub. ever since we got the car in january its been with the abs lights on constintly and squelling coming from the right passenger side only. it even will at times shake like its not going to brake at all.
While driving the car wheel will lock up and cut off. no warning i have taken it to mechanics who said nothing is wrong. i have been dealing this since i purchased the car. also front brakes where out i recently had to change the brake caliber in the front of vehicle.
I was driving to exit the hospital when for the 4th time since i've had the dodge the breaks went completely out then locked up a loud noise was heard and the back tires locked up with the breaks. i've changed them 4 times in the 6 months i've had the car, they get fixed and 2 weeks later the breaks are bad again. it's very dangerous if i were on the highway it would have caused a accident. this car was poorly made especially the breaks.
I am having to turn the rotors and replace the brakes frequently.
My 2009 dodge journey has less than 18000 miles on it, i drive a total of 9-10 miles both ways to work. i've had to replace the brakes twice for rusting out. peeved at the tech's comment "you don't drive it enough" as if i am stupid woman. in 2010 i ask for my tires to be checked cause they were constantly low, looking at my invoice from 1/18/10 i asked for them to be checked and all they did was correct pressure. now i hear about these stems prematurely cracking and after just buying my first replacement set of tires was told, 3 of the stems are cracked and they (tire dealer, not car dealer) couldn't replace cause they have some sensor chip in them. in addition, the tires would consistently lose pressure until the stems are replaced.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed with excessive force in order for the brakes to respond. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power transfer unit assembly fractured causing the master cylinder to fail. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 55,266.
My name is [xxx] and i am complaining about my 2009 dodge journey r/t awd. first the electrical system or wiring harness has a severe problem. it does not want to start like it should. i've been through 2 good interstate batteries in the last 2 years that have not seemed to work. next and the most dangerous is the braking system which is to small for this vehicle. from what i have researched they used a braking system from a dodge magnum(in the series 1 from 2008-2012) when it should have been used from an suv. the rotors where out after 9000 miles while the front pads go after 3000-4000 miles. leaving the back brake pads with the longest life of around 5000 miles this is with aggressive or non-aggressive driving it doesn't matter. this kind of brake and rotor wear and tear is nowadays unheard of. this kind of vehicle is unsafe and very expensive for the average american vehicle owner. these vehicles are as plain as day as much of a lemon as they come. between the electrical or ignition problems that are as plain as day and can not be fixed by your average mechanic and thousands of dollars. also the breaking system which is to small that also can't be fixed without many thousand dollars worth of parts and labor. not to mention the thousands that have already been put into these problems that did not fix for long. the only other thing that i feel that can happen is for there to be a recall by dodge. to fix the electrical-ignition problem and to have a bigger breaking system put on like they did the (series 2 journey from 2012 on till now). and the braking issues are better. so if they can do it now why can they fix the series 1. i think it's a combination of laziness and greediness with there money. pleas help my vehicle right along with the other tens of thousands who have the same problems. don't let dodge get away with this and help make these problems an active recall !! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

We are on our third set of front brakes and second set of rear. now they are saying my rear brakes have 5% brake left. so, i will need new brakes and rotors. the guy at dodge blamed my wife for the way she drives. pt here is no problem with the way she drives. *tr
Have changed brakes and rotors 3 times since owning it needs, repaired again, just repaired it last december 2014
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. after the vehicle was repaired according to an unknown manufacturer recall related to the wireless ignition ring, the abs light and traction control light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start unless it was in the neutral position. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 65,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while parked, the vehicle would not start without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle drove fine, but it would not restart when parked. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the contact also stated that the brake pads and rotors were wearing down faster than normal. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it could not be diagnosed and was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
I already filed a report on how the electrical system is messing up. also how the braking system is to small for this vehicle ,and how they were out extremely to fast. this time i am trying to find another form in which i can through the mail system try and get hold of nhtsa to try and receive a recall . due to me and the other tens of thousands who also have this same problem. *js
I purchased the car in january of 2014 from a used car lot (which i will never do again) and it was sold with transmission leaks. i just found this out after taking the car in for a hole in one of the coolant hoses less than a month ago because it wasn't leaking on the ground. i started hearing a grinding, squeaking and ticking sound that my mechanic couldn't figure out. i just had the breaks done so they are essentially brand new. i had to have the tires replaced because they were worn to the thread. going up a hill yesterday, i heard a loud noise and then the car wouldn't move. this left me in the middle of the road blocking traffic with 5 children in the car. turns out there's a cracked transfer case. sounds like there are many others like me out there having similar problems with this particular year make and model and a recall is in order....again!!!! *tr
We bought this vehicle in april of 2014 with approximately 116,000 miles on it. the day after we bought the vehicle it began not starting and leaving us stranded for minutes to hours at a time. i have six children that regularly ride in this vehicle with me, and it has left us stranded at least once a week (often much more) since we bought it. it has a brand new key fob (bought and programmed by a dodge dealership when we purchased the vehicle). it has had two starters replaced (one before and one just after we bought it, on the assumption that they had received a bad starter). i have been in a dodge dealership getting my oil changed, when it wouldn't start for them, and they wouldn't put it on the computer to isolate the issue, because they didn't have time. when we attempt to start the car, all we will get is a click. all of the lights, radio, etc work just fine, but it will not start. sometimes it takes two or three attempts to start. sometimes it is well over an hour. we are aware that our vehicle is under recall for a win detent ring, however, all of the dealerships we've spoken with say that they don't have the part and can't give us an estimated time on when it will be available. this is extremely concerning to me, given that the issue could cause my vehicle to shut down while i am driving at high speeds on the highway with my children. we also had new brakes put on when we purchased it (less than 10,000 miles ago), and it already needs new brakes. please investigate this issue. we can't get a straight answer from dodge as to what could be the issue. i am concerned over the fact that numerous times we've been stranded in extreme heat, and now we are going into winter where we get extreme cold. it is unsafe. thank you *tr
Car has overheated several times. i have replaced hoses and coolant reserve tank twice temp got so hot that it melted holes in it, brakes on front hash been replaced 6 times since 2014 also replaced rotors twice replace brakes on rear twice. *dt
Before buying this car in 2013 we took it on a test drive. we noticed that the brakes were not working properly. upon inspection the brakes had literally crumbled apart and the dealer said they would replace at no cost to us and that we shouldn't let that discourage us from this purchase. in addition, we noticed that the transmission seemed to shift abnormally fast and hard. again like with the brakes we expressed our concern before we purchased. the salesperson then responded by saying that was how those cars are and that they would reset the transmission for us. they did this at the same time they replaced all brake parts. progressively over the next few months the issues with the transmission worsened. it stalled in reverse several times. it also shifted from 1st to 2nd in less than 3 seconds and increasingly hard as well and once it hits third it loses power. i merged onto the interstate the other day and the rpms were above 6 before it finally decided to shift. at this point the car had less than 70,000 miles on it and we took it to the dealer to find out the transmission needed replaced. i knew it needed that before we bought it, they just waited until it became an issue. now we were told the transmission was actually missing teeth. i am so angry because i purchased this car and have 5 years of payments to make and 6 months in it needs a transmission. i believe this is a defect in the manufacture of this vehicle in addition to the brakes. this is not fair to the american people who want to buy an american car to later find out it was actually manufactured in mexico for "affordability". *tr
Brakes were not working like they should going down a hill. tried to slow down and stop and i keep going. brake light came on! *tr
I have owned this vehicle since october 2012. i have had to replace the brakes and rotors 3 times. the brakes and rotors wear in 1 year or less. *tr
Upon doing routine brake inspection found both rear calipers to be not working and seized up. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate. also, the contact indicated that the brake pedal had to be pressed multiple times in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 13,000.
I have been having problems with my 2009 dodge journey. i also have problems trying to turn it on sometimes. i believe it might be the key or ignition. i bought a new battery thinking my old one was dead and it also started great for a few weeks and then it started doing it again. sometimes i turn the key around and it turns on fine and sometimes it does not. it is frustrating because sometimes it does it when i am away from home. i am also having problems with my front brakes or suspension because when i press on the brakes my steering wheel starts to shake. i had my brake pads and rotors checked and they are good. i just do not know what else to do because every trip to the mechanic costs money. there should be a recall on this vehicle! *tr
Have had the rack and pinion fixed 1 1/2 years ago and it is leaking again. have had to put 3 sets of brake pads on in 3 years. also had to put new rotor and brake caliper on right front due to brake locking up! this car only has 53,600 miles on it and has been one thing after another breaking down on it. been told by two dodge mechanics this should not be happening. would like for the dealer to do something about it. been told there were recalls on this car and we have never gotten one in the mail. help!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving 10 mph, she lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into a curb and there was an explosion noise at the vehicle front end. the vehicle was taken to the mechanic where it was found that the transfer case had a hole which caused it to explode. the contact also wanted to add that the brakes and rotors had worn prematurely and the ignition switch made a clicking noise. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacture was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 81,000.
The brakes on the dodge journey 2009 apparently are too thin/ not heavy enough for the weight of the vehicle.. apparently every 10,000 to 25,000 miles they will need to have new brake pads and resurfacing of rotors or replacement.. seems, depending onthe weight you carry in the vehicle their may be a failure in the braking system.. i bought the vehicle new and only have 26,000 + miles on it.. i have read that dodge should redesign and install a new braking system.. being retired,, i expected this to be my last vehicle. i bought american auto when the american industry was asking the government for assistance. im disappointed dodge hasn't stepped up and taken responsibility for this problem.. it will cost me $260. to over $400. every time for this.. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the rotors, calipers, transfer case, and front passenger seat sensor caught fire, the vehicle also experienced a loss of power. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the brake rotors and the brake caliper were defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact also had the vehicle repaired at the dealer for the transfer case malfunction. upon inspection for the seat sensor failure, the contact noticed that a rubber boot was not installed, which resulted in the insulation igniting. the contact extinguished the flames and placed electrical tape at the end of the wire. the vehicle was able to be restarted after numerous attempts. the tire sensor also malfunctioned, which resulted in the tire constantly going flat. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14373000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 34,903.
