Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. on several occasions, the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system). the contact also stated that the brakes would wear excessively after being replaced. the contact also stated that the vehicle experienced a head gasket failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Vehicle failed state inspection third year in a row all for same reason and it gets worse. in feb 2011 which is first year i owned the vehicle and got the inspection myself, it failed for rear brake rotors and they were not able to be resurfaced. in feb 2012 the vehicle again failed for rear rotors and again they were to bad o be resurfaced. in feb 2013 i checked my brakes before going in cause i had heard noises and screeching from them for about a couple months leading up to inspection time. rear rotors were indeed bad again. the right rear rotor wore a 7 mm groove into it and the pad had a mirroring groove where it had not worn. next both rear calipers i found were seized (i do know these are screw type calipers instead of compression calipers). 3 years in a row i have changed rear rotors and pads. front brakes are fine and have had normal wear. i have only changed front pads once and had the rotors resurfaced once. calipers are fine. *tr

We bought the dodge journey in dec 2012 3 weeks or so later i returned to dealership with a clicking sound when i moved the steering wheel that the front end was shaking and that there was a load roar long story short every 6 months rotors brakes tires are having to be replaced and i guess what really set things more in motion was jan 21 2014 while traveling down the interstate to take a sick child to the dr the left front tire valve steam blew out my husband got the car off the road only to jack it up to change tire when the weight of the vehicle bent the jack causing it to fall almost on my husbands foot, we bought this car because it was a v6 and had the room we need to travel to dr appts with our special needs child because we have to travel so far i have had nothing but trouble the dealership after a fight agreed to put new brakes the machined the rotors and said the steering was a dodge thing nothing to worry about only the load clicking when pulling in or out of a parking space and the roar in the front they claim is the raos and they also at this time put 4 new tires on the car now mind you this was all done 7/6/13 and they done all of this when they purchased the car in 11/20/12 and when i go back in to the car fax every 6 months the breaks rotors and tires have to be replaced. now here it is 6 months later for us and blow out also we just changes the rotors and brakes on the 11 of this month so see the 6 month deal with this car and when searching other complaints i am finding the same problem i have contacted chrysler and they say call my dealership i informed [xxx] at chrysler it was not the dealerships problem they didn't make the car. it is a death trap there are so many more issues with this car but the deadly ones are the tires blowing out the brakes crumbling and the rotors wearing out with in 6 months thank u and i so hope that someone can help us. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of ...

Wheels, brakes, and rotors deteriorate prematurely and/or shortly after the warranty expires resulting in an excessive cost to the consumer and the potential for a complete brake and tire failure. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the brakes and rotors were abnormally worn. the contact replaced the brakes and rotors, but the failure recurred in less than a year after the repairs were performed. the contact also stated that the vehicle jerked forward intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 78,000.

On 2 separate instances the brake calipers locked up and caused the brakes to smoke badly. the first time was in heavy traffic going slow and it was the right rear brake. a week later, also in heavy traffic, the left front locked up and started to smoke. in the second incident, the wheel was too hot to touch which i feel could cause the tire pressure to build up causing the possibility of a blow out at speed. *tr

The brakes and rotors have needed to have work several times and needs to be taken in for the same thing about every 2-4 months. this is a manufacturer defect per the manufacturer. *tr

Brakes were replaced in november of 2011. took car into dealer for oil change and now rotors and brakes need to be replaced again. on top of that the calibers are rocking back and forth. roughly 3 months after the pads were replaced the same squeaking and scrapping noise can be heard when braking. *tr

I brought car used feb 2012 with around 78500. shortly after i got the car i started noticing the vibration when i applied the brakes. so i took it and had the brake pads and rotors replaced on the front. well it still was vibrating when i would apply the brakes. so i was told that maybe the calipers was bad. so a couple weeks later they put on new pads, rotors and calipers. well the vibration stopped. well at least for about 3 months and the vibration when i apply my brakes came back. so i took it back and was told that they are going to put some dealer pads and rotors on and that should take care of the problem. so im waiting to get those put on and see if it will make a difference like they say. *tr

I am filing this complaint about my 2009 dodge journey sxt awd and its braking system. since i have purchased the car new i have had to change the brakes three times. the car now has just under 50,000 miles. that is almost one brake job each year. the braking system for this vehicle is not adequate. this can pose a possible safety risk because the rotors can warp and cause loss of control of the vehicle in any braking situations. *tr

Since i brought my journey i had to get my brakes replaced several time & rotors replace, transmission sealant leak and recently when i was driving to work my tire pressure light came on and within minutes my tire was almost flat. i was able to just make it to a gas station and went to fill up my tire and my valve stem went all the way in and my tire went totally flat and lost all pressure. my car had to be towed and ended up spending $300 to get my front passenger and rear passenger side valve stems replaced. the service guy agreed that it was unsafe and i could of easily spun out if i lost all tire pressure right away. i have 2 kids and i feel unsafe to drive with my children in the car. on top of these issues my steering wheel continue to shake but i had it in to the service department a number of times and they said everything is ok. one of the instances they said the shaking was because of my routers and resurfaced them twice. please help me. i don't know of my options but i am concerned for me and my family's safety with this car. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Engine fails to start. when i turn on the key nothing happens. after several turn of the keys finally there is ignition. last night as my wife was driving home the car dies out and she lost hydralics, so the brakes didn't work and she is lucky that she did not crash and kill herself or someone else. i have had the car in for calliper and brake replacement for both the front 22,000 miles and rear 28,000. the ignition starting problem 3 times. *js

1/10/11 brought vehicle in for standard olf change and tire rotation (mileage: 18,399). san diego rancho dealership advised front brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. i diligently researched brake problems on 2009 journey and filed a complaint with chrysler corporate. paid $50.00 deductible for front brakes. 5/12/12 brought vehicle in for standard olf change and tire rotation (mileage 27,154) again, san diego ranch dealership advised rear brakes pad needed to be replaced as well as turning the rotors - quote given of $305.00. did my diligent research and will contact chrysler for resolution. corporate is aware of the faulty design in this model. noted on complaint dated 3/21/12 (redford, mi) corporate authorized rear brake replacement for deductible cost of $100.00 (corporate phone to file complain - 800-992-1997.

Electrical system failure due to wiring harness melting, radiator cracked because bracket for ac is connected too tight when car is manufactured, battery died prematurely because of failed wires, rotors warped causing car to shake violently when braking. all these problems and others for a car with only 60,000 miles. have spent over $2000 to date in repairs that numerous people have had related to this vehicle. based on online complaints and talking to mechanics who have worked on this car no one can believe that the correct electrical recall has taken place. there have been electrical recalls on vehicle, but not for most common failure. no one understands why brake issue has not been recalled and no one understands why the radiators keep failing without a recall. will it take a serious crash? safety of the consumer is at risk. you pay $20,000 for a car and think it will last awhile. this car has major problems that are consistent from buyer to buyer. *tr

The brakes made a squealing nose they replaced brakes under warranty. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving approximately 10 mph, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the brakes. the dealer replaced the brakes, but the failure recurred after the vehicle was driven 11,000 miles. the brakes were replaced again, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

The center for auto safety issued a release in aug. 2011 regarding brake problems with 2009 dodge journeys. i had brake problems in nov. 2011. i contacted the bob frensley chrysler dealership to inquire about brake warranty and was not told anything about the problems with 2009 dodge journey brakes. the release in aug. 2011 says chrysler had worked out a deductible plan where any brake work on dodge journey with mileage between 24,000 and 36,000 would not cost the customer more than a $100 deductible. i was not informed of this when i called the dealership and decided to get the brake work completed at budget brakes closer to my residence. i feel i should have been informed of this deductible program chrysler had implemented according to the center for auto safety release. *tr

I purchased a 2009 dodge journey (vin: [xxx]) on september 19, 2011 from the stetler dodge car dealership in york, pa. it was a certified pre-owned car. since that day i bought the car i have been back there over 4 times for various problems. the first time was about 2 weeks after i purchased the car (10/3/11), but this last time was it for me. the car makes a hissing noise when i press the brakes, not all of the times but a lot. during the winter months, i hadn't noticed anything else occurring along with the noise, but i had still taken it back to the dealership not long after i bought the car. i was told that it was nothing because they couldn't hear the sound. so, when it got very hot, i turned the air conditioner on in the car. i noticed that if i take a long trip, about an hour or so drive on the highway, a fume/gas smell is released into the car when the air it on. i took it to the dealership on 7/10/12 for this issue. they couldn't get the smell to occur, but i told them that it happened after i took long trips. there is also a grinding/humming noise that occurs sometimes while driving and it happened twice when they were driving it with me in the car, but they don't know what the problem is they say. i was told to bring it back if the problem got worse, even though i had already told them it was already getting worse, that's why i took it in. the steering wheel shakes when i press the brakes. the brakes and rotors are not good. the gear shift moves easily without the brake being pressed so it will go into park while driving. the car finally stalled while driving on july 25, 2012. it's in the shop again. they say a box or case is leaking badly and needs to be replaced. countless other problems but not enough character space allotted to tell. i have 3 pages of problems. scared to drive this car. want my money back now. help! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 ...

Bought the vehicle used from a toyota dealer ,the brakes were pulsating from warped rotors ,had a brake job done and now the brakes are squealing, /and now the second thing the vehicle hesitates to start, you have to keep turning the key on and off to get it to start ,when you try to start it just clicks one time ,if were a bad connection on the batt. it would click as long as you held the key to the start position .not happy with this vehicle at all but i'm stuck with the payments so i have to live with it ... *tr

Noticed brakes were wearing received letter from dodge extending warranty but we were slightly over on miles. we replaced front pads and rotor. now a year later they need replaced again. at 55000 miles. *tr

I was driving there was a loud pop, i didn't know what it was until i tried to stop. i barely had any brakes the brake pad had broken so i had to have brakes put on it. i had just purchased the vehicle already having to put brakes on at 33000 miles i thought something may be wrong but didn't know for sure. ever since then i have to put brakes every 3000 miles and rotors too some times. something needs to be done about this before someone gets hurt or killed, i know there have been several complaints about them. *tr

My vehicle has less than 90000 miles and i've put 4 sets of brakes and rotors on it. i've also had numerous problems with it not wanting to start while the battery test out perfect. i have put 3 sets of tires on it, and the transmission is shifting hard a lot of the time also.it's a shame people have to die before y'all recall vehicles. *tr

This vehicle has been in the shop several times for the brakes malfunctioning and still no real solution dodge has a commercial for the journey stating that they are insurance institute for highway safety. top safety pick for 2011 if the brakes fail it does not get any more unsafe then that it is obviously a problem and the consumer has no one to turn to please do something before someone dies should not you be proactive instead of reactive at the very least investigate to see if there is a problem. thank you *tr

Parking sensor in transmission that sends a signal that car is in park not working i properly may be a huge issue because when you are in drive and sitting it gets stuck in park. then takes off no warning. if me o our anyone in my family is injured i will be the one to help settle a law suit with chrysler. i spoke of this problem to the dealer while it was under warranty the rep. said i had to leave my car there till the problem duplicates. this is a expensive car and my only transportation which is why i had the warranty . the other issue is when sitting at the light the brakes slip causing the vehicle to lunge forward. this is even after replacing the brakes at the dealership the vehicle is a money pit. the consumer takes the bill or could lose their life messing with chrysler. *tr

Ineffective brakes on the journey. they wear very quickly, shake the entire vehicle when stopping. i purchased the vehicle with 38,000 miles, now has 65,000 and i have put brake pads on the vehicle 3 times. *tr

I had a complete brake failure and ran off the road, lost control and spun backwards striking a buried boulder bending my exhaust pipe, this was at 19k miles. right front brake pads blew apart, towed into dealership, didn't work on it due to out of warranty and they stated it would be approx 1000 to fix it, took it to midas, spent 400, replaced front rotors and pads, at 23k miles, brakes worn down to metal, took to midas, said dodge problem, dodge would not work on it stating it was midas' issue. got letter from dodge to fix brakes after 100 deductible, they replaced front rotors and pads, 2 days(two days later) brakes failed and ran through hwy interchange and almost got side swiped by a big rig. pucker factor +20, taken back to dodge and spent all day there and they stated they turned rotors again on the back rotors but when i went around to the service bays, the front rotors and back rotors were off and they were replacing the brake pads again. this needs to stop and the only way dodge will do anything about it is for someone to be killed, it's not going to be me...... *tr

Needed to replace brakes on all 4 wheels and needed 2 front rotors. *tr

Purchased vehicle in 2010, test drove vehicle asked dealer to check the following components engine, brakes, transmission. dealer took car to a repair place stated everything was fine, went on with purchase. had a oil change not long after purchase facility mentioned front and rear brakes, rotors and calipers were bad..which i had noticed pedal to brakes were not engaging properly, severe safety issue. took to a second brake repair same problem.(s) on occasion engine stalls while driving, sometimes will not start at all. some electrical components do not work in the vehicle. then driving vehicle home from store transmission dies, car will not go over 20 miles, almost hit from behind by another vehicle due to sudden loss of speed luckily about two minutes from home. parked vehicle for a few hours car would not go in park or reverse. took vehicle to transmission repair, transmission tech examines transmission, transmission is defective and needs to be replaced. called manufacturer dodge/chrysler stated there was nothing that they were willing to do, same statement they have said to many consumers, without concern for buyers safety or inconvenience that their vehicles cause. please i need help this is the only vehicle that my family has, and i am concerned about all of our safety. *tr

The 2009 dodge journey brake pads and rotors wearout prematurely and create a safety hazard. i believe that the brakes are under-designed for the vehicle weight and should be redesigned and replaced under recall. i am a very conservative driver yet still have to replace the pads and rotors every 20,000 to 24,000 miles. *tr

I purchased this car in august 2010 (it is a 2009) and since then, i have had the vehicle in the shop 33 times. i have had to replace all brakes and rotors, had front passenger-side window motor replaced, driver-side is going out now, had leaking from the ceiling, replacing the cracked radiator right now, had the emergency brake fixed, needed new rods and bushings, fuel injectors run loud, there is a drone noise from the right side of the vehicle when going 1800-2000 rpm, electrical systems short out, had the electric throttle indicator light come on, car dies all the time, yet the battery is fine, ...bottom line, this is a lemon. i have the r/t model which the dealership likes to claim "is just the noisy one." that is a very poor answer towards a consumer. i take very good care of my vehicles and to put up with this is upsetting. i have spent over $3000 in repairs in the 2 1/2 years that i have owned this suv. chrysler has made no attempts to help with these common problems and i know that i will not support this company buy purchasing with them again. when i bought a journey...i didn't realize being able to drive it without problems, would be such a "journey." *tr

The brake and rotor system on my car have prematurely worn down to the point of replacement at least 5 or 6 times in the 3-4 years i have owned this vehicle. this is a very well known issue with the dodge journey, and they refuse to do anything about it. *tr

Calipers stuck wearing out brake pads and warping rotors. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. the accelerator pedal stiffened and prevented the vehicle from accelerating. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brakes, rotors, and calipers needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

The brakes on this vehicle do not work. every single year, for the past 4 years, i have had to purchase a new brake system for this car at a cost of hundreds of dollars. dodge and the dealer are aware of the problems but they refuse to recognize it. this is my son's car and i don't feel safe having him drive it. i purchased a lemon! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that at 20,000 miles the brakes and rotors had to be replaced. the dealer informed the contact that the brakes and rotors were too small for use on the vehicle. the contact stated that over the next 40,000 miles, the brakes had been replaced 3 times and the rotors once. the dealer did not have an explanation for the second failure of the rotors. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 60,000. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey sxt. the contact stated that without warning, the vehicle would not start. the exterior and interior lights work without any difficulties. the contact have to wait 30 minutes before the vehicle would start and over time it lost power and began to make a knocking sound. the brake pads and the rotors also began to wear excessively. the dealer was notified and stated that the vehicle needed a starter, brakes, brakes pads, rotors, battery, and struts. the dealers estimated repair cost was $2,000 at the contacts expense. the contact replaced the brakes, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and the front rotors for $738.23. the manufacture was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, when the brakes were depressed, the steering wheel was shaking and the brakes would not stop the vehicle immediately. the contact stated they had also noticed when the vehicle was shifted into gear the vehicle shuddered. the problem recurred multiple times. the contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer for the diagnosis and stated that the brakes needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the approximate failure mileage was 25,000. the vin was unavailable.

At 19,000 mile i had to replace the brakes, then another 41,000 replace brakes, at 66,000 replace brakes, and rear brakes looked up at the cost of 650.00. replacing brakes 90,000 again!! this has been the most expensive "family car" i have ever owned. tires- i have had 4 sets of tires!! they only made one tire (kumo) for a 19" rim at a costly expense. now goodyear makes a tire that is a better grade. i have had more money in this car than its worth. never will buy a dodge again. they cut a lot of cost building this car!! as advertised as a family vehicle!! what a joke!! *tr

When i bought my car in 2009. i noticed that my brakes squeaked when i stop i took it back to the dealership, i was told that nothing was wrong. keep complaining all the time, then the vibration started and i needed rotors and brakes. the aftermarket brakes doesn't fit had to replace them with the dealership brakes. had to replace a two tire sensors. had to have my rotors resurfaced will need new rotors. recently the engine coolant overheating light came on. the fan stop working its electrical the mechanic can't figure out why it stop. my car sometimes doesn't start, took it to a mechanic. no reason why. when my air is on it takes the car longer to gain speed on the highway. i contacted the dealership where i purchased it and dodge. both were rude and didn't offer any help. i purchased the extended warranty and it didn't cover anything. *tr

This journey has had premature wearing on the brakes and rotors. we have had the car 3 years now and have had brakes done at least 6 times and it only has 47,000. this is a huge safety concern. also in order to change your batter you have to take it to the dealership, so if you break down you have no choice but to have it towed and taken to the dealership which is hundreds of dollars. also my husband is handicap, and this poses a big problem for him or anyone else. this car was made poorly. we cannot afford brakes every 6 months and even after you get the brakes done it is constant problems. we try to use our other car we win driving with our kids for fear the brakes will go out or something. *tr

Bought my journey in march of 2009. in feb of 2010 my brakes were squeaking so i had them checked and it was found i needed pads and rotors replaced on back. 3 months later the front rotors and pads needed replaced. 6 months later the back rotors needed replaced again along with pads. 8 months later the fronts needed rotors again and the back needed pads. this is just crazy how many times i have been to the mechanic. most of my drive is highway so there is no explanation other than there has to be a serious defect. i love my journey but will never purchase a chrysler vehicle again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while braking at 55 mph, the steering wheel shook. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the brake pads and rotors were replaced. the failure occurred at least four times and each time the dealer had to replace the rotors and brake pads. also, the engine would take at least a couple of minutes before starting. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the contact should notified nhtsa. they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 18,115 and the current mileage was 47,000. the consumer was informed, the vehicle had a history of premature wear of the brake pads and rotors due to them being too small and thin to handle the braking duties required by the size and weight of the vehicle. updated 08/13/12

Rotors and brakes went out at 36,000 and had to be replaced due to being too small for the vehicle. of course this was just out side of warranty. recall was called after we replaced them. went out again at 45,000 and again at 85,000. i had a knocking noise from under neath and took it in and it was covered under power train. had to take it in again at 40,000 knocking noise again and luckily it covered under power train. at 45,000 my journey wouldn't start and just didn't know when it would start 30 minutes to an hour. this has happened several times and was told it was the key ignition control and that they are back logged and couldn't replace it but charged $100 for diagnostic again and have had to take it in again since. at 75,000 i was left stranded due to over heating and had to take it in again and it was the temperature control sensor. brakes went out again at 95,000 and now at 107,00 the check engine light is on and did a diagnostic and it's the throttle runner control is stuck open and unable to get it in until a week later due to the dealer to busy. i think this has gone on to long with these dodge journeys and it's time for some recalls on them. i will never but a dodge again! *tr

Had to get brakes/rotors replaced at 15,000 miles in 12/09, at 49,000 in 12/11, and at 74,000 in 3/13. *tr

3 months after i purchased my used 09 dodge journey i have had to replace the brake pads every 2 to 3 months. i would take it to the dodge dealer and it was under warranty and they would tell me my brakes were like brand new. i am still replacing pads every 2 to 3 months. i think dodge should recall this car and fix the brakes. *tr
