We have classified the 239 complaints from 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Car just totallt stopped while driving. no power steering wheel locked up and key got stuck in ignition. van would not start back up. this is super dangerous and could have put my family in extreme danger.
While driving, the car stalls, but some electrical lights stay on. the speedometer drops to zero, the gas pedal does nothing, the power brakes stop but can brake with a lot of foot pressure, the power steering stops but can turn the wheel with arm strength, the left and right blinkers won't work, but hazard lights do work. the heater fan stops. but the lights in the dash stay on. this is scary because it can happen at any moment. we have been fortunate to be in an area where we can pull over without an accident... so far. this ignition switch electrical problem appears to have a recall on other dodge vehicles, but not the 2012 caravan. my mechanic has quoted a fix price of over $600 which is hitting us hard in the wallet. please encourage dodge to include the caravan in this recall. peoples lives are at stake. this has been happening at least 3-5 times per week, starting in the fall of 2019.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the fuse panel needed to be replaced. hiller company chrysler dodge jeep ram located at ( 635 mill street, us-6, marion, ma 02738, (508) 748-0019) and informed of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 114,000. the vin was not included.
Vehicle will either not start or takes 6-12 times to start, not a battery issue. also power door will randomly not open. trunk will no longer open with the press of the button on the key. i've seen the not starting as an issue with many other people
I have previously reported an issue with my vehicle. the problem has persisted. the issue at hand is the vehicle loses power without warning while driving. it has happened at low speeds (25 mph), middle speeds (45 mph) and high speeds (65-70 mph). all warning lights are disabled when the events occur, so there is no way to warn other vehicles of the issues at hand, increasing the probability of a crash. i have taken my vehicle to cutter dodge in honolulu only to have been told that the battery cables were loose ($150 service fee) and that the primer that is included with new batteries to apply on the battery posts was something that they'd never seen before. the problem has persisted. i currently have my vehicle at a repair shop with a battery that won't hold a charge because the intergrated power module is malfunctioning. as seen is previous complaints, this issue is ongoing with 2012 dodge grand caravans. this issue presents a significant safety hazard and should be recalled. i will repeat that the driver has no warning that this issue will occur and it puts lives in danger. my vehicle has less than 110,000 miles and it began before reaching 100,000 miles. recall this part before lives are lost or maimed.
This issue happened just this morning when the van was parked in my driveway and i attempted to open the sliding door on the passenger side of the van. i have attempted to open it many other times this morning while parked at my office with no success. it worked fine last night. the passenger door will not open or close either manually, using the automatic switch or the key fob. it makes a noise like it is trying to work, but then shuts off after a few seconds. this is an obvious safety issue if there were to be anybody needing to get out that door in case of an emergency. apparently (per the internet) this is a well know issue with dodge.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge grand caravan. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shut off without warning. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home after the latest failure. the contact also stated that the key fob did not cooperate with the transmitter and failed to operate. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 450,000.
Vehicle electrical and engine shutdown suddenly while driving 30mph on the road. no power steering or brakes, had to pull over to the shoulder. was able to restart the car and drive normally after a few minutes. brought to dealer but no engine codes were discovered. has recurred more than once in a 2yr period. related to this electrical (tipm) problem, car often requires 3 or 4 attempts to start. will sometimes start on its own several seconds after key stopped turning.
Fuel relay switch continuously runs after the vehicle is shut off which drains the battery and prevents it from starting. the vehicle then needs to be jump started by another vehicle and once the original vehicle is running and put into drive to be moved it shuts itself off because the battery is not fully charged.
My dodge caravan will shut off while driving. the most common issue i have had is that it will not start properly, but i am terrified that i will be on the freeway and have it die on me. according to my mechanic, the issue is a bad tipm.
My vehicle was not starting , it took 1-12 tries to finally get it to start, i had someone look at it and it was the intake sensor, i replaced tray, still didn't work, then the fuel pump, in true mean time my battery was drained because there was a noise by the back tire,(not air coming out of tire) sounded more like the heater was on, car was totally off. then the actuator, still not working, actually getting worse. now it takes 10-15 times to even start the car. i took it to the dealership and there is a recall for the ignition, however not for my vin, but other vans my same year and model. how could teis be? now they say i need to replace the ignition modular and that is over $1300.00, this should fall under warranty. again same year, same model, but because my vin is not part of it nothing i can do. and to top it off the part is factory back ordered, could take over a month to get. please help!
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle stalled. the vehicle operated as intended after it was restarted. the contact also stated that on occasions while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to be started which caused the battery to drain. additionally, the fuel pump remained in operation even after the ignition was turned off. the cause of the failures were not determined. the local dealer mike anderson chrysler (417 s. 3rd st. logansport, in.) and the manufacturer were notified of the failures but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 150,000.
The car is slow to start after 2nd time , the chrysler i have to change the timp all the fuse box only for a problem of start , what happens to all dodge grand caravan the year 2012.
Problem starting from faulty tipm causing fuel relay to work intermittently. fuel pump works by testing. the problem is faulty power in tipm.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge grand caravan. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle seized and lost power without warning. the contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road. the vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. midway dodge (4747 s pulaski rd, chicago, il 60632, (773) 376-8060) was contacted about the failure and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the dealer stated that the ignition switch caused the failure. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred intermittently. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
Turns off when driving...all power shuts down leaving vehicle with no power. happened when on the freeway. it turned back on, but from what i have read sounds like an issue.
Unable to unlock driver side passenger sliding door with key fob or push button on console or manually. latch seems seized in lock position. i have even tried by kicking and shouldering back of door to get it to budge, no luck. limits escape in an emergency!
The car wont start. it turns over but wont start. the tipm relay needs replacing
I have had it happen several times, i'll be driving and the van just dies. everything shuts down the longest i believe it has lasted is 2 min then i'm able to shift into neutral and restart the van. it has happened while i was driving down my neighborhood street at 20 mph and it has happened on the highway at 70 mph. it has happened driving straight and it has happened mid turn. it happens approximately 3 times a week.
I attempted to cold start my van it it wouldn't start. it kept making clicking sounds. eventually after a few days and slowly turning the ignition, it started. the initial incident occurred in the morning after my car sat overnight in the garage. i had just returned from a 16 trip to fl from ga and back.
The vehicle is having issues with tipm. the van will not start due to a defect in the tipm relay that will not allow the fuel pump to function. this has been noted on several dodge and chrysler vehicles. most recently a lawsuit was settled but only half of the affected vehicles were covered. from a cold start, the engine will turn over but not start, the ignition sequence will continue until you turn it off. it is currently in the driveway until i can replace the tipm,
The totally integrated power module (tipm) on my dodge caravan vehicle contains an internal fuel pump relay that operates intermittently and fails without warning caused and still causes the engine to stall while driving which could cause a crash. there is no warning when the fuel pump is going to fail. this is a known issue on the 2012 dodge caravan, but no recall to date.
Ignition switch turning off, disabling power steering, power brakes, air bags, my car stopped in the middle of the street, all the lights and bells come so there is power from the battery. after a few tries it will start with no problems. i will turn the fob and hear 1 click sound at the start postion but nothing happens. it happens randomly and usually starts after 1-4 attempts. i have it stop in the middle of the street multiple time, and in heavy traffic areas this happens. it will just go dead, no warnings at all. i drive 25 miles to work and home every day, i am scared to drive it in fear i will get stuck somewhere or get hit!!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start intermittently. the vehicle started when the ignition was in the off position and drained the battery. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel pump relay and the totally integrated fuel module needed to be replaced. the fuel pump was replaced, but the failure recurred. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted, but did not assist. the contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was 185,000.
Loud clicking noise in dashboard as well as lack of function involving the a/c control panel. rear defroster light blinks.
I was driving van trying to merge onto highway with my family when check engine came on and van just went limp as i merged we almost got hit from behind thankfully we didn't! this is a known problem with chrysler and dodge 3.6 engines i recently purchased a used 2012 dodge caravan rt i should have done research on it, also i tried to get emissions to pass inspection and i failed, there is this p06dd code that is affecting the van, i brand van to mechanic and over a week later new oil pump new oil filter housing adapter and over 1k in parts and labor and the problem still exist pertaining to that p06dd check engine code! that code puts engine in limp mode or safe mode, it make van very slow with out any power which is very dangerous trying to get onto highways when you van will not accelerate because of code! mechanic tried everything even with help from a chrysler technician, andy they can't get rid of that code p06dd like i said oil pump replaced oil filter housing replaced oil pressure switched replaced wires harness computer reflashed, i did research and i see plenty of dodge jeep and chrysler with 3.6 has this issue even vehicles that come out of the dealership brand new has this issue! in my case i'm 7grand into this used vehicle and i can't even register it because of this issue! i can't even sell it trade vehicle because i can't get it passed inspection nor drive the vehicle because it's just flat out dangerous, i don't wanna invest in new engine because i heard of nightmares where dodge replaced engine and even with new engine this code p06dd check engine light still exist? please help i have a family of 5 i can't afford of just loosing 7k i paid 5500 for van and about 1500 in repairs so far and van is still not working please can anyone help with this and investigate? thanks jason
The driver side rear sliding door stopped working and will no longer open. nothing happened. our van was sitting in our driveway. when we came out and tried to open the doors one morning it would not open. the lock on the inside will not latch either locked or unlocked but stays in the middle. it will move but will not engage at all. the door will not open manually, by pushing either button to open it in the van, or by the key fob. this is incredibly dangerous with my kids in the back seats.
Drivers side sliding door won't unlock all other dooks working
Over the past 2 months our 2012 grand caravan has been having an unknown issue. we will be driving along normally then the power and engine will all cut out this has happened in multiple environments from crossing railway tracks to running down a smooth road, thankfully this has not happened yet on the highway, we are left coasting with no power steering or anything until we can safely stop put the van in park and restart the engine. the van restarts every time straight away with no problems. the other day before we took the van to the local dodge dealership for them to investigate the issue, the console stayed with no power but i was able to start the engine, the fan and radio also worked at this point, after driving 5 to 10 meters the dash console came up with all the gauges working again. it has now been to the dealership twice now and they are unable to replicate the issue or know of a cause. after reviewing forums it seems that other van's from various years are having the same issue. sometimes when it does it, it catches itself at the last second and the engine stays on and the console comes back up to normal though this is maybe a 1 in 5 occurrence. one of the times it happened we put our fixd in the care and the screenshot attached is what information it showed, the dealership only found 1 of these 4 fault codes.
My fuel pump kept running when the car was off and the key was out it was the tipm computer that was bad i bypassed the tipm when this was fixed at dodge now my battery light is coming on its a brand new battery and alternator and im being told its the tipm. it also was effecting acceleration it would ramp up rpm but speed would not change this issue occured while in motion driving on a freeway
My car was in for a recall 2 years ago where my car would not switch gears when driving. prior i complained several times before to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong until i found the recall or concern on line. my car is now showing the same signs as before along with stalling when i hit the break and making a ticking noise. how do i get this resolved since obviously it is a manufacturer issue with the car. this happens on highways, city streets when the car is in motion.
We just bought a used 2012 dodge grand caravan with about 99,000 miles. when i drove it the next morning, i made a turn onto the road when it completely shut off. it alarmed me. i turned the key to the off position and then back on and it started up again. i didn't think much of it until today (2 days later) when my husband called me concerned that the car stopped on him as he was turning onto a different road. he had our 2 yr. old and 7 month old in the car, so that really concerned me for their safety.
Vehicle electrical system continues to get worse. driving down the highway at 70mph all of a sudden the van looses all power and kills the engine. have to put it in neutral in order to restart. this is a family vehicle and i will not loose my family over a faulty electrical system. numerous times pulling out onto the road from a parking lot the van has stalled as i am turning with oncoming semi trucks nearly hitting me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge grand caravan. while driving 60 mph or various speeds, the vehicle spontaneously shut down, but was able to be restarted. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to cullman chrysler dodge jeep ram (300 benchmark way, cullman, al, (256) 615-2563) where it was diagnosed that the wireless ignition module needed to be replaced. the repair would cost approximately $900; therefore, the contact declined the repair. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 100,300.
Vehicle would randomly shut off whiling driving. ignition switch would change positions if bumped or while driving over rough terrain. thus causing the vehicle to shut off unexpectedly. 2008-2011 model years have already been recalled. i guess someone has to die for the 2012 model year, which uses the same part, to be recalled as well.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge grand caravan. after the vehicle was refueled, the engine would not immediately start. after restarting the engine, the windshield wipers activated independently and the doors would randomly lock. in addition, the backup camera malfunctioned and the screen turned black. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the totally integrated power module was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 105,000.
While driving today on a busy street at 40 mph car just shut off. no warning, no check engine light, nothing. no power steering, gas, etc. just stopped working. was able to pull over and turn key off. car turned back on after. i believe the cause of this is a bad tipm. this is our family's primary vehicle and i am lucky that nothing happened and my kids were not in the car with me today had previous problem with car not starting when key turned. this is still an intermittent problem. dealer said most likely the tipm, but didnt want to replace without knowing for sure because part is so expensive.
While parked, the driver side sliding door was found to be stuck shut. it will not lock or unlock, either automatically or manually... the door is seized shut. thereby creating a significant safety problem in the event of an emergency.
Van shuts off while driving - 3x in a fifteen minute span. loss of steering and ability to control the car. only 70k miles - extremely dangerous. must put the car in park to turn it back on. local mechanic cannot diagnose the problem because the diagnostic computer is not sent any kind of signal. battery has been tested 3x and found to be working normally. mechanic drove the car approximately 25 miles over 3 separate periods to repeat the engine failure and could not. says he cannot 'fix' a problem if it cannot be detected.
Well my wife was driving the van on the expressway way last year van just shuts off. it wouldnt start so i put my jumper cables on it and it fired right up a few days later we went to kmart in their for only a good 20 minutes the drive alone was about an hour and half come out and the battery was dead once aging. go figure this was when kmart stopped selling bigger batteries. so i walked over to autozone and bought a new battery installed it and it started up. while we got home then had to leave aging to go get the kids from school the battery was dead know when i say dead through all of this i mean their was enough power to have the van doors open and lights on but not enough power to turn the engine over till it clicks. so hooked up to my truck jumped it.seem to drive fine so we went back to autozone and they changed it out with the warranty and tested it they said it was a good battery but to be on safe side. well i started to drive the van i had to get jumped 4 times before i started to disconnect the battery when it was warm out the battery would last but on the cold nights the battery would still die. so one day i said srew it i went to drive it and it just would start believe it or not i only took off the air filter thinking maybe it clogged while i did that and tried starting it it back fired out through the intake causing a fire on the air filter box put it out said hell with it it's going to the dodge dealer in wilkesboro nc i paid 1,700 to have the tipm replaced they said that's what was wrong with it so i said okay. here it is a year later and now i am getting a little upset around the same time it went out last year and my van is starting to give me the same issues so i am going to hope that it isnt that but just to be on the safe side this is for last year and if i have to pay that price aging yes i'll be making a new complaint to
Dodge grand caravan 2012 stalled in motion while driving on an expressway at the 65 mph speed limit. the following morning i took it out on a country back road and again it stalled in motion while driving 55 mph speed limit. i was able to steer the car without power steering, and apply brakes but the spedometer, gas, and engine all died as i was driving it as if the car was turned off. i am doubtful the rear brake lights were working and am lucky no one was behind me. from looking it up i am told that this is an issue with dodge jeeps and vans related to the tipm module. if i was aware of this issue before buying the car, i might have reconsidered, it is seriously dangerous and someone could easily be killed if this happens while someone is driving behind you and the van just dies.
My wife was driving our van and turning into a busy intersection when suddenly the car shut down leaving her with no power brakes and no power steering and no way to accelerate to get out of harms way. this has happened to me as well in the same vehicle. when i try to start the vehicle sometimes the car does not start and i have to turn the key a few times before it will actually make a connection. i investigated online about this problem and it seems that this is not an uncommon problem with this vehicle. when i called dodge the technician told me that it's some kind of relay inside the ignition switch that is faulty so he admitted it himself i am asking that you investigate this before somebody gets hurt or killed. this is my family's primary mode of transportation and my children are always in this car. it is my worst nightmare to lose my family. and i would hate to lose my family over an engineering flaw that dodge does not want to acknowledge . i fear thatsomebody is going to get hurt or killed over this eventually. the technician at dodge told me that it typically cost around $800 to fix the problem because i would need two new keys and a new ignition so it's not like they don't know about this. there needs to be a recall on this ignition switch. if you research forums on the 2012 dodge grand caravan you will see that this is a huge safety problem and extremely common. please hold dodge accountable before someone gets hurt.
My van continuously looses all power while driving. it happens on regular roads and highways. i lose my power steering, breaks...everything. this has happened to me while driving straight as well as during turns. it doesn't matter the traveling speed. i have had some very close encounters that could have ended with a tragedy. when the van losses all power, i will have to act fast and get the van in neutral. the dash will go on a random series of flashing as if power is being restored. i am unable to try to restart my van until the van is ready for me to do so. i have had some very close encounters on the highway and the vans electrical system malfunction at 65mph and i can not do anything until the electrical systems recycles its glitch and always me to try to restart while in neural. in the meantime semi's and cars are approaching fast and i am helpless with zero control over this van. this needs to recalled an corrected before my children or myself are killed over this electrical glitch.
Our car's battery went totally dead because the fuel pump did not turn off. upon research, this is an ongoing problem, which can cause the air bags to deploy among other horrible things when driving down the road. this happened when parked in front of our home but now i am scared to take it out on the road. we have to have our car mostly for doctor appointments. please help!! this should be a recall on the auto maker's expense.
Saturday 15, 2018 my family and i were driving back from the mall, i was driving at about 55 miles an hour when the vehicle stalled and just died in the middle of the highway without any warnings or signals on the dash. i managed to use the momentum and pulled over to the shoulder, it restarted after 9 times try. thankfully we were able to make it home. a month before vehicle was parked in driveway and it wouldn't start, towed it to mechanic and replaced alternator. till now vehicle always stalls when slowing down or coming to stop. this vehicle acts like it have been taken over by supernatural forces and what happened last saturday was very scary to my family. i have read a lot of the same complaints on this site about this vehicle and it is very upsetting that the maker have not taken responsibility in addressing this safety issue. i wonder how many people will have to die first before they address this safety issue. let it be clear i will sue, god forbid any happen.

On my 2012 grand caravan about two months ago started an issue of intermittent starting or having to depress the accelerator to gt the vehicle to start. then about a week ago the van completely stop starting and would just turn over unless it was jump started. i have not had the vehicle into a dealer but with reading several online forums on this issue and used a text light to verify power to the m25 20a fuse. i read to use a fuse tap to link an acc fuse to this fuse so when the key is in the on position the pump will run and that is my current setup to have vehicle run.

The tipm is just shot and i've had the altnator replaced the starter and it's definitely tipm related. i don't understand why the recall on this excluded my van, it's been doing this for several months and it's making the vehicle unsafe. please investigate this situation. (i have 4 kids and two of them have special needs and i need my vehicle to be safe for my kids, and right now it's just a joke and i'm telling you this van is possessed) it's completely unreasonable for the my dodge to keep burning through everything i've put it in it. please investigate this, the issue isn't gonna go away and i can't keep burning through parts and further destroying the vehicle. the recall that was issued excluded my van but everything from that recall is happening to my van and has been for several months and dodge keeps giving me the run around. i've been a dodge owner my whole life. but dodge is about to lose a [xxx] good loyal customer because this is beyond ridiculous. ive been getting the run around from dodge since the beginning of november of 2018. please investigate this. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
