Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

When brakes are applied, it sounds as if metal is rubbing against metal. brake pads are brand new and rotors are in excellent condition. have had the vehicle looked at and have also talked to others to find out the calipers are bad and this is a common problem. even when replaced, the same thing begins to happen shortly afterwards. *tr

In may i started to notice some shimmying when i would slow down. the longer i drove the car, the worse it would get. i spoke to my neighbor is a mechanic at a car dealership and he said it was my brakes. i had my front brakes replaced on july 11th under the recall. the shimmying was not as bad but still there. it has progressively gotten worse. now at 27,000 my rear brakes are being worked on. i have been driving for 18 years and have never had this type of brake trouble and do not feel i should be having it on a new car. *tr

I was driving and the rear brakes seized. i pulled into my driveway and they were burning. i had complained to the dealer 2 months prior that i thought something was wrong with the brakes. i had a lot of pulsing in the steering wheel and didn't feel like i could stop quick enough. they said everything was okay. after the brakes seized on 6/28/12, i took it to the dealer and they said the rear brakes were all corroded. the rotors, brake pads and clips had to be all replaced. months ago, dodge had put an additional warranty on the front brakes for this very reason (pre-mature corrosion) instead of doing a recall. but the back brakes were not covered. i searched the internet and other people have had the same experience with corroded rear brakes seizing at low mileage. please look it in this. i didn't expect something like to happen on a vehicle with relatively low mileage. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while driving, the brake distance had increased and the tires were not stable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the brake pad and rotors were worn prematurely. the vehicle was not repaired because the parts needed for repair were not available and the dealer did not have an estimated date of when the part would become available for the repair. the failure and the current mileage was 33,447.

Rear passenger wheel gets extremely hot while driving. it appears that the caliper may be locking up. the rear wheel on the driver side also makes a high pitched whine, which is intermittent and usually goes away by tapping the brake pedal. we took it to the dealer and they said we needed a rear brake job. however, i believe this is due to defective calipers which are not releasing the pads from the rotors. the rear brakes on every car i have owned always last significantly longer than the front. the fact that the rear pads are worn excessively while front are not indicates a defect in the rear brake assembly. the ignition was repaired as part of a recall. however, after starting the car, the key does not return to the "on" position. this allows the car to run and be driven, however none of my lights or directionals work. i can wiggle the key to get it into the correct position, but sometimes it is not obvious that the key is in the wrong position. this results in me driving without headlights in the rain and thinking that i am signaling properly in turns when in fact everything is off. *js

Tl*the contact a owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the rear brake alignment needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

Only 20k miles at the time, the front brakes had to be replace. they vibrate and pulse real bad. they replace the brakes and six month into it, they are pulsing again. the back brakes pulse also. the van has less then 30k and the brakes should not be bad. *tr

Driving down the road i smelled a burning smell coming from my van. i got out of my van and discovered that the smell was coming from my rotor . i took it to the dealership and they replaced my calipers and rotors due to a caliper sticking on the van.i have had numerous issues with the braking system.pulsating of brakes, calipers sticking, premature of rotors. i have had my rotors replaced at 7186 miles, 15688 miles and 24,527 and 39,435 miles . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. while driving approximately 40 mph, there was an abnormal whistling sound when the brake pedal was applied and the vehicle hesitated to stop. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the rear brake pads and rotors were replaced, but the failure recurred. the brake pads and rotors were replaced six other times. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 16,000.

I have a 2010 dodge grand caravan, that i bought new in july 2010. i have 31,000 miles and had to change the brakes and rotors 4 times. dealer claims front end is to heavy. they supposedly have put a "revised brake pads" but same thing is still happening. car pulsates repeatedly when i come to a stop, especially if i am stopping at the end of a hill. i bought this car because of my 2 small children and this is something that needs to be fixed. *tr

Brakes went out one month after purchase from the dealership. replacement cost $936 for which we received no help from the dealer even though we paid for extensive insurance on the vehicle. had to replace the entire brake system and just one and a half years later we are forced to do the same thing again. if the brakes cannot support the weight of the vehicle the vehicle should be recalled before fatalities are caused by a faulty brake system. we did receive a letter stating we would be reimbursed for our payment of the brake system but since we had moved and i could not locate the receipt we were not reimbursed. *tr

Brakes were checked by dealer and said to be fine. after a few miles at road speed, i stopped and smelled hot brakes. rear driver's was smoking. lube on guides was boiling and rotors were blue. dealer claims there is no problem. claims it is our rough winters here in central ny. but they had just checked them and no salt or winter in july. i have ruined 4 sets of rear brakes and rotors since then. just replaced the front for the first time at 70,000 miles. there is something wrong with the system that is applying the rear brakes when not needed. sometimes i find the right side smoking and sometimes the left. we have done everything according to spec. filed the guides, lubed the guides to be sure everything is free. nothing helps. it is dangerous because all i have is the front brakes to stop in an emergency. your dealer claims this is normal to only get 14000 miles on a set of rear brakes. they did replace one caliper but it made no difference. thanks *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while traveling 35 mph, the brakes were depressed and the vehicle vibrated abnormally. in addition, the vehicle failed to stop properly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.

When pressing brakes there is a real bad pulsating vibration . there has been numerous times i felt like the van was not going to stop properly which could lead to an accident. *tr

Since basically brand new the brakes felt funny to me. my wife said it was just me. had dealer check them under 1 year and they said nothing was wrong. within 6 month of that visit the recall came out and front brakes could be replaced. cost me the deductible. well that fix has never felt right either and it's getting worse. the shake is violent now in addition ton the grinding that happens every time the car just starts up for the day or god forbid you have to hit them hard for a quick stop. tons of groaning and creaks not too mention and dragged out stop. you also can't tell me this kind of shaking is good for the other front end parts. as i see it i can keep going through sets of brakes that will warp fast and not provide me and my family the safety we need to be comfortable or get rid of it. give you one guess which direction i'm heading. said commercial for dodge and their quality. i have owned many dodge vehicles but will likely move on all together from them. already replaced my dodge durango 2004 that did quite well with 2012 nissan armada. i will be watching in my rear view for dodge min-vans and be sure to move out the way not knowing if they can stop before hitting me. the worst braking i have felt on a car ever and i've driven some terrible 1970's machines. boo dodge on this one for not stepping up and fixing the entire problem. guess potential lawsuits will cost them less. how do they sleep at night. that felt good to get off my chest i truly hate this vehicle. *tr

Owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the rear brakes and calipers seized and overheated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that they needed to replace the rear brake pads. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and a claim was filed. the failure mileage was 30000. *tr

The brake rotors warp every 20,000 miles or so, so bad that the steering wheel shakes. this has happened on both my 2008 and my 2010 caravan. dodge has known about this problem for years and has refused to address it other than to give a discount only if you ask for it. getting them fixed at the dealer is a pain cause they take the van for at least a day some times two. also the wheel bearings on the 2008 did not last very long at all first set was replaced under warranty(37,000 miles) second set(68,000miles) was not. i have not had the wheel bearing issue on the 2010. the wheel bearings are sealed so it has nothing to do with the warped rotor issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle vibrated abnormally when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. the dealer replaced the front brake pads however, the failure was not corrected and the vehicle continued to vibrate abnormally when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle was repaired under a manufacturer's recall where the front and rear rotors, and brake pads were replaced. the failure recurred several months later. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and a diagnostic was performed. the failure was located as the cd joint seal, which failed and caused the lubricant to cover the front suspension. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 22 and the current mileage was 24,165.
