Recently reported SEATS problems on 2014 Dodge Durango

Driver side headrest inadvertently deployed while operating vehicle. headrest fastener damage in the process making the fastener unrepairable. dealer states there is no current open recall on this issue even though there even though there are numerous complaints about the same issue online.

I was cleaning my car (stationary in driveway) on 11/3/2019 and noticed a piece of plastic on the floorboard. i looked up to see where it might have came from and noticed the driver seat headrest was separating. i attempted to push the two pieces back together and the headrest fully deployed. upon inspection i could see that the clip that holds a metal pin had failed. the plastic piece i found was part of this clip. very grateful i was not driving when this happened. this vehicle is only 4 years old. it is not stored in the heat or sun. now we get to wait for the eventual failure of the passenger side active head restraint. safety devices should not cause injury.

The head rest pop open put of no where. try to explain this to them and no one is willing to help. however after doing my research, i found out i'm not the only one with the problem and that is very common. when i brought this up to their attention i was told that there is not a recall on it so therefore they won't be able to help.

While vehicle was sitting stationary in my driveway over night, the passenger side headrest deployed. the vehicle was unoccupied and not in motion. the vehicle has 121,000 miles on it. online research revealed this is a common occurrence with over 30 incidents already documented. this safety related item needs to be identified for recall.

While driving the car,my daughter was in the passenger seat and without warning, the headrest on the passenger side broke and hit her in the head.

Driver's side headrest deployed while the vehicle was in motion in reverse in our driveway (no accident). the headrest struck the driver in the back of the head, startling the driver and causing a safety hazard. upon further inspection of the headrest, the plastic pieces holding the rod that secures the headrest failed.

As i was driving on the highway, the passenger side headrest deployed.

The headrest all of a sudden popped out/ exploded while i was driving and hit the back of my head

While driving on little road in pasco county florida on july 25th , my passenger side headrest deployed as if in a crash, striking my father in the head. the unit still has the metal pin attached by clamps and basically snapped. the plastic is broken.

The driver headrest active head restraint safety device deployed without warning during normal driving. there was no impact, etc., that would cause the device to deploy. the device errantly deployed. the headrest came in sharp and sudden contact with the rear of my head while in motion on a city street, not turning. through online research i noted that this seems to be a common issue.

While driving, with no warning, the active head restraint deployed on the drivers seat, knocking me in the back of the head with force, momentarily causing me to lose control.

I just pulled out of work and i was driving down the road. my driver seat head rest popped open and hit the back of my head. i didn't hit anything or nothing hit me. i was driving maybe 40mph with no other cars around me. i didn't even realize what happened until i pulled into the parking lot of the store i was going into to. my head rest is still intact just split open!

I was driving to church at about 20 mph when i heard a noise and felt a bump striking my head. the drivers headrest was deployed. it seems like some plastic clips or parts inside just broke...

I was pulling out of a fast food drive thru onto the main road and my passenger seat headrest deployed. my daughter was sitting on front seat. the car did not have any impact and was less than 5 mph out of the drive thru.

Second row passenger side bench seat no longer latches to the vehicle. mechanism is now jammed and will not function. vehicle seat is free floating and will not latch to the vehicle. occurred during normal use, as third row passengers were exiting from the vehicle.

The passenger side active head rest come apart, luckily in the driveway. it pushed forward about 3". the plastic that locks around the hinge pin broke. the dealer wants $700.00 dollars to replace, plus when will the drivers side head rest come apart. clearly this will be a $1,400.00 repair when complete

Driver headrest deployed by itself with no reason, starting the vehicle headrest deployed

The front passenger head rest suddenly and violently popped open while in motion on a straight, smooth, city street without any outside force being applied to it. if anyone had been sitting there, it would have jolted the person's head forward. i worry that this will also happen to the driver's side at some point. this is a safety issue.

The passenger headrest active head restraint safety device deployed without warning during normal driving. there was no impact, etc., that would cause the device to deploy. the device errantly deployed. had a passenger been in the vehicle this could have resulted in serious injury. the vehicle was in motion on a city street. through online research i noted that this seems to be a common issue.

While driving down the interstate at 70mph the front passenger side head rest "deployed" without warning, striking and injuring my wife who required medical treatment to resolve the injury. inspection of the head rest revealed that the plastic that holds the metal retaining pin for the active head rest system had failed, resulting in the rapid forward movement of the head rest causing injury. dodge/fca so far is refusing to cover the obvious materials failure and poor design under warranty.*dt*tr *dt*jb

As i was driving to my son's football game, my headrest deployed and violently hit me in the back of the head. i hadn't hit anything or a pothole. i lost control of the car momentarily, but thankfully was not around other vehicles and was only going about 30 mph. it sounded like my airbag had deployed, but after looking around to find what happened, i noticed my passenger side headrest was out and so i felt behind my head and sure enough it had deployed as well. i ended up going to the er because of a head injury as i was disoriented and dizzy and had light sensitivity. i have been diagnosed with whiplash and have had headaches everyday since the accident. i am also seeing a chiropractor because my back is all messed up as well.*dt*jb

Upon washing my car, the passenger side front seat active headreast activated while sitting in the driveway. no one was in the seat and the car wasnt in motion. there also wasn't any rear impact. took the car to the dealer been getting the run around if its covered under warranty.

The active restraint headrest on passenger side front seat deployed while sitting over night in the driveway. vehicle has 104,000 miles and there hasn't been any rear end impacts. it appears that the part that holds the pin has broken allowing the headrest to deploy and the pin is still in the latch it's self. there in not any current recall on this but if it happens while someone is setting in the seat it could cause a head or neck injury or if it is the driver cause an accident.

While stopped with the vehicle in park after just coming off of the interstate at a truck stop, the passenger side active headrest popped. no damage had occurred to the vehicle, no large bumps or curbs were hit. luckily we were stopped and no injury occurred. unfortunately this is a huge expense to fix at a dealership (over $700 just for the part plus shop hours making it about a $1000 expense not covered by warranty!) this is a huge safety concern - 1. if we are now in a collision prior to repair will our airbags deploy as this is part of the whole system (and the one is already sprung so could damage occur because of that) 2. if we had been driving and it were to deploy and hit someone it the back of the head it could easily cause an accident causing injury or even death to occupants and to occupants of other vehicles! this could be extremely dangerous!

The front passanger side headrest completely became undone with such force that it pushed the back of my head forward while we were driving to our destination. felt like some one punched me in the back of my head with such force that if i was the person driving, it could have caused an major accident. we were on a major highway (turnpike) going about 70 mph and i'm glad that it was not the driver's side.it startled me and my wife as well it completely unexpected.now the question is that if this happened on the passenger side, its just a matter of time that it can happen on the drivers side??? this headreast looks like its sprinloaded and the pin that holds this headrest together failed. the unit is broken and the plastic housing inside the headrest that holds the pin is broken as well. please this needs to be looked at as it is an accident waiting to happen because it just can happen at any time and it would be unfortunate for anyone to get hurt if they are driving during the day or especially at night time.

While driving at approx. 40 miles per hour, the drivers side head rest exploded causing my head to move slam forward. i though someone had hit me from behind but looked and there was no one there. pulled over to the side of the road to find the head rest apart. i contacted a local dealer and they asked if i ran into a curb, hit a large bump or was involved in an accident and was sorry to hear that happened. after research on the internet, there are several reports of these headrest exploding randomly on several dodge models specifically the durango. my vehicle is a 2014 with 29k miles on it, never in an accident and barely driven.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving at an unknown speed, the driver's side headrest detached and pushed against the back of the driver's head without warning. the vehicle was taken to blaise alexander chrysler jeep dodge (1080 e college ave, state college, pa 16801, 814-234-4321) where it was determined that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and promised to call back; however, the contact did not receive a response. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000. **tr *tr

Without warning, the passenger side front seat active head rest deployed without cause or crash. the vehicle was not moving, we were just getting inside. the passenger side head rest tethered to the seat suddenly and unexpectedly deployed causing damage to the head rest. no visible damage is apparent to the vehicle itself (crash), and no visible codes or warning lights (i.e. airbag light) are displayed. the vehicle has never been in an accident.

Driving 65 mph down i10 in houston tx the headrest popped open for no given reason.

Driving on a 45mph city road. i was a passenger, husband was driving and i heard a loud noise and felt something hit me in back of head. thought we were hit by another car but we were not, we were still driving at same speed. my headrest had ejected for no reason and hit me on back of head and neck.

The touch screen works part of the time and other times not. also air works sometimes and not other times, sometimes half the car is cold while at the same temp the other half of the car is hot air from the vent. also the seat set up does not keep settings.

Without warning my passenger side headrest popped open. don't know exactly when it happened as most of the time there is no one in the passenger seat. not involved in any accidents. headset just popped open and is stuck.

Vehicle parked overnight. upon entering the drivers headrest was noted to be exploded open as the plastic mounts holding the pin keeping the active restraint closed had disintegrated. if car had been underway this might have been lethal..

I was driving 40-50 mph on hwy 146 near kemah, tx. suddenly and without warning the driver seat headrest rose up several inches and the front of the headrest shot out and hit me in the back of the head.

While my wife was driving down the highway the active head rest pop out, hitting her in the back of the head. she was startled, she then pulled off to the side of the road to see what had happened

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving approximately 40 mph, an abnormal noise came from the vehicle. the contact noticed that the front passenger headrest fractured. the vehicle was taken to nyle maxwell chrysler (13401 ranch rd 620 n, austin, tx 78717), but a diagnostic test was not provided. the technician saw the failure and informed the contact that the headrest needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,600. *bf *tr

While my vehicle was parked in my garage the passenger side head rest deployed without impact or warning. failure milage was 46400. had local chrysler dodge inspect failure and was told that head rest needed to be replaced at a cost of 709.49 in order to have the air bag light reset.10/

Active head restraint malfunctioned and deployed while driving slowly through a parking lot. speed bumps were encountered, but i cannot remember if the ahr deployed while passing one. passenger suffered head injury.

While driving on the highway something exploded loud inside the car. i screamed and at the front passenger's seat, i saw my daughters head and body moving forward as she was impacted by the seat. then i noticed that the headrest popped and hit my daughter strongly in the head. i went right away to big o dodge 2645 laurens rd, greenville, sc 29607. the technician looked at the headrest and told me to make an appointment because they were too busy. they gave me an appointment for a week later and also told me to call chrysler 800-992-1997 to see if they cover the part. i talked to ariana gonzalez 9:45am and she said she was going to call big o dodge to verify what can be done, but she never called me back. i called again chrysler and talked to joel and he said they can't do anything about it until the car is diagnosed. i emphasized that this is really dangerous and that i am afraid that this happens to my driver's seat while i am driving. this is a great safety hazard. if this explodes in the driver's seat while driving it can cause an accident. this is my daily use vehicle and i need this to be solved right away, and prevent many other people using dogde from being harmed.

After making a left turn at an intersection, the passenger side active headrest deployed. no other safety systems activated, and no warning lights appeared on the dash. the driver-side headrest did not deploy. speed was less than 30 mph. looking at the headrest, it appears that the plastic clips that hold it in place failed, causing the deployment. see the attached photographs. the vehicle had 38,402 miles at the time of the incident

My wife was driving the vehicle when there was an exploding sound immediately followed by hit to the back of her head. she is currently in a lot of pain from her neck and has a nice headache to accompany it. the vehicle was in motion when the headrest deployed on it own.

The headrest of the passenger seat suddenly deployed without any accident when the vehicle doesn't move . please also note that the vehicle was never used off-road. my car has only 35000 km on its odometer and never been involved to any accidents. it seems like manufacturer defect. the headrest deployed because all plastic latches were damaged due to poor quality of matereal. i have contacted with my lokal dealer but had no any help. i'm afraid that same could happen with driver's side headrest while driving that able to lead fatal accident. please help people to be safe, chrysler doesn't whant to hear us at all ! please raise an investigation to initiate recall.

My driver side headrest deployed on its own while driving down the road. the vehicle has never been in an accident and it is only 3 years old. the deployment almost caused me to wreck but i was able to maintain my vehicle to come to a stop in the other lane. i have contacted the dealer and dodge with no help. there equipment malfunction and i have to pay $684 to have it repaired. keep in mind it is suppose to deploy in a rear end collision and there was no collision. it was a spontaneous deployment.

On 3/6/17 the passenger side front seat active head rest deployed without cause or crash. when driving in normal conditions the passenger side head rest tethered to the seat suddenly and unexpectedly deployed causing damage to the head rest. attempts to repair this and or find the cause at the dodge autonation dealer located at 21027 i-45 north, spring, tx 77388 (877-791-6569) where the vehicle was purchased met with a declined repair due to the damage was listed as "trim". at the time the ahr deployed a passenger was in the seat at the time but was not injured due to the "tethers" held the front face of the head rest from projecting outward/forward. i was notified by the service director at the dodge dealer frankie freeze this has happened before and he has personally seen this type of deployment without cause. in the service manual in the event the ahr deploys there is a "reset" process. due to the high velocity of the head rest deployment the unit itself was damaged to include the head rest cover and was not able to be "reset". no visible damage is apparent to the vehicle itself (crash), and no visible codes or warning light (i.e. airbag light) are displayed. at this time i have disputed the claim by dodge that this is a "trim" issue and the service department can not determine why the head rest deployed and referred the issue and deployment to a investigator. i suspect but have no evidence of the deployment of the head rest was caused by the right rear rear passenger opening the factory installed video system installed in the front passenger seat (rear entertainment system). it is possible the back of the flip open monitor plastic shroud struck the back of the head rest when opened causing it to deploy. the vehicle was in operation in normal traffic conditions at night with little to no lighting in the vehicle. a distinct and loud pop was heard from the seat.

1) when turning on ventilation seats - driver and passenger seat blow hot air instead of cool air. caused a mild burn for driver and passenger. in service - wiring defect. 2) taillights (led) stopped working when driving and braking. only turn on when in park. in service. 3) sunroof stopped working twice. had to turn car in for service 2 times. first time worked with a replaced part. waited over 2 weeks for the part to arrive. then 2 weeks later, it broke. in service - wiring defect.
