Problems with 2014 Dodge Durango ENGINE

On average, the 2014 Dodge Durango starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 45 915 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2014 Dodge Durango

While driving on the highway, the car would no longer accelerate and the engine had turned off. all electrical indications were normal and no warnings appeared. i coasted to the side of the road at which point the vehicle displayed the message "shift vehicle to park and restart engine." i put the vehicle in park and restarted the engine. this has occurred multiple times at varying speeds under various conditions. vehicle was taken to dealership who had the vehicle for 3 days and was unable to reproduce or diagnose the issue. no codes were stored in the vehicle.

Mechanic stated it was a bad lifter in engine causeing a ticking sound. after extensive research about this issue, it has shown me that this is a recurring issue with alot of your durango models and alot of complaints on this not being a recall on these vehicles. my complaint is that i have less than 88,000 miles on my vehicle and others with far less mileage having engine trouble and dodge/chrysler will not recall and fix this problem.

The check engine light came on, so i took it to the nearest mechanic (not a dodge dealership). they did a scan and the code said misfire, so they recommended a tune up. $500 later the light came on again. my son took it to dodge who said misfire, left head. the v6 engine i have had the same problem up to 2013 and dodge extended the warranty on the left head to 150k miles. they told us i was out of warranty by 5 weeks or 3k miles, so the repair would cost $2700.00. i called dodge corporate for help and was told tough, we cant help you. i believe this is the same problem as in earlier years. now i have no transportation to work as they said not to drive it. please investigate the 2014 v6 pentastar engine. I am writing this complaint as my 2014 dodge durango limited had an oil leak. oil ends up all over your garage, road, driveway in the size of a softball on the group after the car has been turned off. after taking to local mechanic, i was informed that the "cooling assembly or a sensor was leaking". it turns out my car the entire cooling assembly was bad. mechanic informed me that 3 other chysler/dodge products were in his shop over the past week with the same issue. also, when he received the part from the local dodge dealer, they originally had 5 in stock that week and i got the last one. so, this appears to be a flaw in the manufactured part that leaks oil and could potentially cause a fire, illness, etc. part and labor cost me $650.00. my 2014 durango has 65,000 miles at time of posting.

Ive had a total of seven problems with this vehicle related to the engine. now there is a time king sound with full oil changes on the plan every threeomths. i trhly believe this vehicle has engine problems with the way its built.

On july 8, 2019, from a stop, light acceleration, the vehicle started hesitating as if it was misfiring or not getting fuel, up and down shifting, hard up shifting and the vehicle would not accelerate. the check engine light started flashing maybe 10 times then stayed off. cut the vehicle off and restarted and ran as if no problems occured. contacted dealership to scan the vehicle, they found no engine codes stored in the computer and stated to drive it until the check engine light comes on and stays on, then to bring it in for diagnostics.

My vehicle started making a clicking noise around 65k miles. when i scheduled my routine oil change at my dealership i was told that i needed to have my cam lifter and rocker arms replaced. i explained that this is an issue that should not be happening on a vehicle that is only 5 years old with 65k miles. they told me that this is going to cost me $1,800 to have the repairs made to the vehicle. then i was told that if i have the 60k mile check up for $800 on the vehicle that dodge will complete the repairs for free. after doing research online and speaking with other durango owners i found that this is a known issue with the 2014-2015 dodge durango and should be addressed.

Chexk engine light has been coming on and off for the past few days. got it scanned and the code the comes up is a p052 - faulty oul pressure sensor. after some research i found there are quite a few other models effected by this issue but only certain ones are being repaired without cost to customer. on my dash the oil preasure reads at 85%-100% at idle and stays at 100% when giving it gas.

I purchased my dodge durango brand new in 2014 and never had an issue with it. it is currently in great condition except that i recently took it in for an oil change on 3/9/19. it sat in my driveway until my wife drove it to work the following monday morning. on her way home from work she started to smell an overwhelming burning electrical smell. i drove it back into the dealership where the oil change took place and they outright lied to me telling me it was a plastic bag burning on the catalytic converter. they could not prove it when i asked them to show me. i scheduled an appointment with another dealership for this tuesday. so i did some research to see if anyone has had the issue and the internet is full of these vehicles having the same problem. i noticed that in a fe instances the issue was dud to a recall on the alternator. when i entered my vin number in the nhtsa site, it does not come up as a vehicle that needs the recall completed. why would my 2014 dodge durango be part of that recall? vin [xxx] and also if this is not the issue why would i and so many others have the issue. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My 2014 durango has been making a knocking noise on the front driver side for over 3 years now. i took my car in several times and to different dealers. it was always the same story, 'we couldn't find anything' i even had one dealership tell me 'sorry we can't figure it out, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.' are you kidding me!! my vehicle has been to the dealer over 5times for the same problem and it's never been fixed. now it's out of warranty and out of their hair, just what they wanted. i need to help on what to do in this situation. another issue i had was with the fuel pump. they fixed some problem i had a few years back, they actually broke my gas tank door after working on this issue. my car has once again come back with this same problem. today my car won't start and is unfortunately out of warranty. i had a mechanic come take a look at it and it seems to be the fuel pump once again. who's working on these cars? drunks? i need help asap. i want to note that the knocking noise occurs every time i'm driving. no matter the road conditions. smooth, bumping, raining, the knocking sound is there. it sounds like a rock hitting under the hood. it's not constant but happens every 3-5 minutes and i know it's not the lifters because i've also had the problem already and it's been fixed. any help would be great. .

Developed a leak in the oil filter housing, which leaks down through the engine compartment and also gets on the exhaust system. this is a very common issue with the pentastar 3.6l engine on all chrysler produced vehicles. they have made a few revisions to this part, but have never issued a recall leaving many vehicles with this faulty and potentially dangerous part.

I was driving on the freeway during a very bad rainstorm at night on january 16th, 2019. i was traveling around 50 mph on the freeway, in the number three lane, when my car shut off, where i lost complete power to my engine. my speedometer dropped from 50 to 30 mph immediately, leaving me with no power, to barely make it to the emergency lane. no power, no brake, no steering-nothing. my horn was also honking, my headlights flashing, windshield wipers attempting to move but unable to, and speakers making weird noises. and to make things even more scary, my 9 year old son was in the car with me. this is an issue that needs to be investigated, and possibly issue a recall. i feel that i am extremely lucky that my son and myself were not severely injured or even killed, with my car shutting off like that without warning. if i had not been able to cruise to the emergency lane, no doubt we would have been struck at a standstill by oncoming traffic, averaging 50-60 mph. i am extremely concerned, and this is a huge safety issue. i brought the car into the dodge dealership, where i was told that it was from the rain and it shorted out my electrical. that's it. that's it? there should be a better explanation, and action taken to prevent something like this from ever happening. that car shutting off without warning from 50 mph to 0 mph on a freeway could have cost my son and i our lives. i am expecting to hear back from dodge regarding this very dangerous problem that occurred, and i have also read about similar complaints with the durango, so i know this is not a fluke. i look forward to hearing from you. thank you.

Rocker arm ticking noise 3.6l v6. i believe the same recall that was put into effect for 2011 to 2013 3.6 engines by dodge should apply to other years with this engine. i've read that the 2014 engine is the same as 2011 to 2013.

Vehicle accelerated without driver input, including going up a hill without driver pressing accelerator. engine redlined while stopped at a traffic light without driver input. vehicle put into neutral, but engine revving would not decrease, and then driver put vehicle into park which continued to rev at high rpms, but vehicle would then not shift out of park. vehicle was turned off and then back on after 45 to 60 seconds, but vehicle continued to rev engine at high rpms and showed that vehicle was in 8th gear. approximately 30 minutes later, vehicle would not turn on. tried to turn vehicle on and it would turn itself off without trying to start.

Check engine light appeared despite all scheduled maintenance having been conducted as recommended. check engine light is p0520 engine oil pressure sensor/switch "a" circuit. seemingly this is a faulty sensor/switch which has occurred in 12% of durango vehicles of the manufacturer year of 2014.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving, the temperature gauge and power steering indicators illuminated. the contact drove home, inspected the vehicle, and diagnosed that the water pump failed. the contact stated that the water pump failed due to defective materials. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder. after attempting three times to restart the vehicle, it finally started and was driven to the contact's residence. the contact stated that the failure began approximately two and a half months ago. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving 70 mph, a burning odor was detected and the check engine warning indicator illuminated, which meant that the battery voltage was low. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (peacock chrysler jeep dodge ram hilton head in hardeeville, sc 29927) where it was diagnosed that the water pump was fractured and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system) as a possible cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vin was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 52,326. the vin was not available.

Part # 68105583af was leaking engine oil. the oil was collecting between the heads. dealer replace the part but i haven't been able to get imformation from dodge if the part has been redesigned oil collecting between the heads could cause a fire the oil leaks when the engine is running

Vehicle check engine light came on, went to have vehicle diagnosis completed by shop and it was found that housing oil filter is damaged which lead to oil leak it was found that chrysler engine design of housing oil filters for 3.6l engines have been poorly made an it is a common issue service bullentin sb-10058301-5939 verifies this issue

While driving 2014 durango (w/ 26313 miles) on highway, the "check engine light" came on, and the car slow down to 30 mph and it would not accelerate more than 30 mph. i pulled over and inspect the car and found oil dripping from the engine and the entire bottom of the car was soaked with oil which can be a fire hazard. upon doing a brief research online i found many people who owns a 2014 dodge/ chrysler with a pentastar engine reported that the cracked "plastic engine oil filter housing" causing the leak. i took my car to the dealer and they refused to fix my car under warranty and blamed me for "over torquing" the oil filter.

I submitted a previous report related to this issue. today my car was parked on the street and totally started on its own. this car does not have a remote start. i was walking towards my car trying to turn off the panic horn which was sounding. i was approximately 15 to 20 feet away from the car when it started. this is the 4th time this car has started on its own. the car was under warranty the other three times this occurred, but the dealership checked it out and said they could not find a reason. i am really concerned this could occur while the car is parked in our garage and cause carbon monoxide poisoning (the first 3 times it started on its own the car was parked in the garage.)*bf *tr

Hello, i just purchased a 2014 dodge durango limited awd w/approximately 30,000 miles. i have had the vehicle for about 3 weeks and on september 4/5th notice huge puddles of oil in our driveway. my wife attempted to drive it that morning, but heard weird noises "sputtering noises" in her own words. once she told me of the issue, several hours later i started the durango and heard similar noises. looking under the vehicle i notice oil on the under carriage of the car stretching maybe 5 feet in length. i called chrysler roadside assistance and notified them of the issue. they sent over a tow and once the dealership diagnosed the problem, they said it was an oil cooler leak. upon reading several forums this seems to be a common issue.

Bad oil pressure sensor with code p0520. engine light suddenly come on when idle. since then it read high pressure close to 100psi in the morning right after i start my car. lowered as i drive but the engine light doesn't go off.

The water pump blew and had to be replaced. the vehicle had less than 50,000 miles on it. this should not have happened. the vehicle was stationary and was very loud when we started it, took it straight to our mechanic.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving 35 mph, the check engine warning and shift to park warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle slowed independently and stalled. there was also an abnormal fuel odor present. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after parking the vehicle for ten minutes. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

Noticed oil leak under vehicle. upon inspection, discovered it was the oil filter housing. took to dealer who quoted $474.70 for repair. vehicle had 47,xxx miles and should have been covered under the powertrain warranty. chrysler customer care could not state why it wasn't covered other than it was outside the 3yr/36,000 mile bumper to bumper. mechanic did not specify that part was damaged from oil changes. just stated cracks were found in the oil filter housing. service bulletin sb-10058301-5939 dated august 7, 2015 shows there is a known issue. additional sb-10080203-2280 dated june 15, 2016 proves that fca knows there are numerous issues and want engineers to be called. it is common to all 2014 3.6l pentastar oil filter housings after the apparent design change from metal to plastic. fca agreed to recoup 50% of the cost after they couldn't explain why it wasn't covered under the powertrain warranty. it's a well known issue across the numerous forums out there. oil draining down back of motor over transmission bellhousing could be hazardous as a fire could be started due to proximity to exhaust system.

I purchased this vehicle in october 2016. the a/c when turned on blows hot air. after i start the vehicle and let it run a minute the air is warm. if i have been in motion for 5 minutes or more the air is hot as if the heater is on. no issues can be found as far as leaks or anything else. this has been an issue since purchase. the a/c was not used in october since it is hot but when i use the remote start the air will turn on but never gets cold.

Car won't start, car stalls and engines sudden shut off

While driving the alert chime indicated that the key fob was not in range. then the vehicle shut off. the key fob was in the cup holder. the vehicle was in the drive position. i had to stop. put vehicle in park, restart the vehicle and then put in drive and continue driving. this is the first time that has happened.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving 45 mph, the engine misfired and the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. as a result, smoke started to emit from the dashboard. shortly afterwards, the vehicle burst into flames. a police report was filed and all five passengers sustained unknown injuries that required medical assistance. the vehicle was towed to a salvage yard, but it was not inspected. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 5,000.

Anti-theft system activated upon exiting vehicle and key fob became desensed due to rf interference in area. dash display indicated that "key fob not recognized". car has keyless start button and could not be started. all functions on key fob were not operational. roadside towing assistance had to be requested.

The vehicle was in park in a parking space and running with my daughter, mother-in-law, and father-in-law sitting in the backseat. i reached in from the passenger side door of the vehicle and pressed the ignition to turn the vehicle off. the vehicle ignored my command, the dash began flashing, and the car engaged in drive and took off driving across the parking garage. i had to sprint around the vehicle and jump in to the drivers seat to engage the brake and turn the vehicle off before it collided with other vehicles in the garage.

Vehicle was parked at a boat launch in preparation of putting boat on trailer. car was in park, engine idling. got out of the car to retrieve boat while partner would drive the car out after boat was trailered. while partner was attempting to get behind the wheel, car suddenly started backing into the lake until submerged. the transmission was still in park until tow truck operator got into the vehicle to manually release transmission in order to tow out. probably not repairable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start on multiple attempts. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

Vehicle shuts down while on freeway. dealer was unable to locate problem. it happened again over the next 6 month's several times. new vehicle was at dealership many times. dodge sent out a corporate machanic saying there was apinch in the fuel line. this happened again a year later, same fix at dealership. and two years later, i am having the same problem, car does not start anyone this time.

Wife went to start up vehicle and it would not crank over.called aaa for a jump. it crank and started with a rattle can sound.i came home to verify sound. it did such sound as she explained. i'm a mechanic and removed valve cover to check for rocker damage none found. i removed intake and found water in #7and #8 cylinder.i looked at seals on intake and found not installed properly. the seals were not square in bores of intake. i have not removed oil pan but i suspect connecting rods bent on start up. i need to know if dodge new about this issue. i did do a coolant pressure test and it held fine with no leaks. was there a recall on the intake which destroyed my wife's engine. *tr

Upon leaving the dealership after a brand new car purchase a strong gasoline odor filled the cabin with the a/c or heat turned on. upon exiting the car a strong gasoline odor was present around the hood and left front fender. the odor has rendered vehicle unusable to transport infant and toddler. dodge service has had the vehicle for over 2 days with no resolution. *tr

While driving i noticed car wouldn't shift gear. it was stuck on d6 when came to a full stop at stop sign. then car wouldn't move forward after pressing gas pedal. getting out of car to ask for assistance to push car on side of road, the car started rolling forward. ran back to car n drove back home. parked car in garage and turned off car then back on. now the car wouldn't go to any gears. it's stuck on park. it wouldn't reverse or drive. called chrysler warranty online and they had it towed to the nearest dealer for repair. *tr

Shortly after 1st acquiring the 2014 dodge durango r/t awd an exhaust smell filling the cabin was noticeable after acceleration and steadily traveling between 40-45 mph w/the front and rear air conditioning units on recirculation. the occurrence was repeatable and noticeable by my spouse and children while riding in the durango. it was brought to the purchasing dealership multiple times for the exhaust leak but ultimately they could not determine the origination or cause; they attempted a software update. the dodge durango was brought to another dealership where the rear cabin air exhausters and lift gate grommets were replaced to no avail. the 2nd dealership ultimately advised they do not know how or why the exhaust is entering the interior cabin and have labeled the exhaust leak as a smell. a non-feasible vehicle replacement has been offered. documentation of the exhaust leak issue is available for further review. the dodge durango has not been modified.
