Problems with 2005 Dodge Durango FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2005 Dodge Durango starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 102 961 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2005 Dodge Durango

When i get gas it doesn't matter if i have a little gas or half a tank my gas as i'm pumping always comes out and backfires at me ....it just starts spitting out at me for no reason... even when i'm empty and i start pumping gas it happens after about 10 seconds of pumping gas it just decides to come back at me.. so i'm wasting gas all the time it happens about every fourth time i get gas....

Gas gushes out of the fill tube when the tank becomes full. it doesn't seem to matter how fast or slow the tank is filled. when full, the automatic nozzle does shut off but only after gas has spurted out and runs down the fender. i need to emphasize that this is an ongoing problem that happens over and over again. the most recent date is listed below.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango fuel escapes from the fuel filler neck fuel spills unto the person refueling possible faulty fuel tank the contact stated that while refueling fuel would escape from the fuel filler neck and spill onto the person while refueling. the cause of failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously serviced in august 2013 under the nhtsa campaign number: 5v034000 (fuel system) for the same failure. the local dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was 150,000.

When filling up fuel tank, a wave of fuel is spilled out every time.

Fuel spits back at end of refueling. dealer mentioned a recall on the inlet check valve but that my vin was not included in that recall. it should be. it is the exact same problem. it is a major safety issue when a gush of fuel splatters all over the attendant, my car and the ground every time i fill up.

When filling the tank up with fuel, rather than stopping automatically, the nozzle clicks and fuel burps out onto the vehicle and the ground. this happens when stationary at a gas station filling up with fuel. i believe this may be the common issue with the fuel tank filler inlet check valve or fuel tank filler. each are common recalls found on the nhtsa website under this specific vehicle.

When fueling with fuel at the end if not stooped regulatory to allow the fuel to empty into the tank the fuel will come out of the filling hole and keep going until you stop the fuel pump. once you stop the fuel p[ump it will take about 3 sec to stop coming out but until then you will have about 1 quart to half a gallon of fuel all over the side of the durango, tire, and ground

While i am pumping gas it starts to come back out and it's spits out . even when i pull the gas pump out to stop the gas it still continues to spit the gas. this happens no matter if i am empty or if i have some gas in my tank

When you fill the tank up, at least a gallon or more of fuel spits back out and runs onto the ground with no way to clean the gas up

Fire hazard. gasoline fume after turning off engine. fuel line will lose pressure after sitting 24hrs and hard initial starting. engine run fine. no leak detected on long drive. after several short trips, enough leaking gas will pool on top of gas tank and spill over passenger side and rear of gas tank. gas leak from the plastic housing of oem fuel pump. fuel pump was replaced at owners expense. core charge on new fuel pump indicate that the old fuel pump is being rebuilt and small leaks will not be detected from the rebuilt unit.

Fuel shoots out of the filler everytime fuel is added. about 20 gallons into the 27 tank is when this happens. it's not once or twice, but everytime i fill up.

Every time i put gas in the tank it spills out at the end of refueling all over the car and ground.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. when filling the fuel tank, the fuel tank valve failed and caused fuel to spill out. the vehicle was taken to jstar motors (8200 crystal dr, anaheim, ca 92807, (866) 906-0586) where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same symptoms listed in nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline). the failure mileage was 145,000.

When attempting to re-fuel, immediate backflow/discharge of fuel causing hazard. this occurs even when fuel tank is below 1/4 tank level. re-fueling must be done at a very slow rate to reduce number of backlow discharges that occur during a single re-fueling session.

I had taken my dodge durango for a recall on air bag and they replaced.. also mention that when i am filling up my dodge durango with fuel it wouldn't automatically stop when tank was full caucusing fuel to splash all over including me they indicated to me that it was a recall on my durango they ordered the parts and two days later called me and said we are not going to fix it. dealer was davis moore dodge in witchita, kansas

My car caught on fire from the hood area (i have photos) and air bags never deployed . i took my car in and the air bags were replaced but never deployed and car is a total lost due to fire.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that the fuel overflowed without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic and a dealer. the dealer (pearson chrysler jeep dodge, 8250 w broad st, richmond, va 23294, (804) 965-0300) stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: rq08005 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer issued two fuel system recalls and three fuel system tsbs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Takata recall i'm handicap, trying to get airbags replaced, keep getting run around, dealers no help, finally one dealer says parts are on order , but still no results, have been over 1 year, i'm still recieving recall letters in mail, frustrated, need vehicle fixed,

When filling the gas tank fuel spits out everywhere resulting in a fire hazard and personal safety issues for the person fueling the vehicle. this had been an issue since i purchased the vehicle in february. i contacted the family of the previous owner who stated this has always been a problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an emissions leak and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to mt. ephraim chrysler dodge ram (620 n black horse pike, mt ephraim, nj 08059 (856) 931-2000) where it was diagnosed that there was a very small evaporative emission system leak. the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new o-ring, lock ring, and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline) and stated that the vehicle was previously repaired twice; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,680.

Every time i fill my tank, fuel burps back out and spills all over the side of the suv and on the ground. i called dodge, and they said the recall for this was already performed, and that repairing it will cost me around $900! if a recall, has been fixed, and still the problem persists, then the recall should be re-performed!

Upon filling the gas tank since the first time on june 15, 2017, and every time since then, the fuel always spits back, and all over the place, including on the gas attendant, upon any one walking by, on the car, and of course, on the ground. it may or may not be the fuel tank inlet check valve (fuel filler tube), but the dangerous safety issue remains. i have read that 20,000 durangos have been recalled from 2005 for this issue, but for reasons unknown, even though my 2005 durango also has this dangerous safety problem, i am told by the dealer that my 2005 durango has not been recalled. if for some reason it has not been recalled, it obviously should be recalled because it has the same exact issue that the other 2005 durangos have been recalled for. so why not mine?

After fueling, when tank is full, it will begin dumping (spitting) fuel from gas filler tube. vehile is turned off and stationary when this occurs. this occurs at every fill up.

A recall that supposedly happened before i purchased the vehicle is showing the symptoms of why it was recalled to begin with. the recall #e01, nhtsa #05v-034 which involves the fuel filler tube inlet check valve. every single time i try to put gas in my durango, the fuel spurts out at me... even when i go super slow in filling it up. this has been going on for at least 2 years now. the area around and under the gas cap is now all corroded and rusted. i recently took some pictures during the fill to show all the gas on the ground and on the car. i took this to dodge city in brookfield, wi and they could not fix the problem without charging me for the work (almost $600). in researching this problem, i see many people with these durangos have this issue but chrysler will not fix it without charging the end user.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while attempting to fuel the vehicle, the contact was unable to insert the entire fuel pump nozzle into the fuel filler neck. the fuel filler neck would only allow a certain amount of fuel to enter at a time. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel filler neck and fuel tank parts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 129,494.

Fuel tank overflows every time when fueling. i try to pump as slowly as possible but fuel still runs down side of truck when about 3/4 full every single fill-up. last happened previous saturday. this has been occurring last 15,000 miles. local dealer claims nothing is wrong.

Engine cuts off at any speed, but especially at low idle, when nearing an intersection, or turning the vehicle at a lower, safer speed. this happens on highway, residential streets, stoplights, basically anywhere at anytime.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that there was a recall regarding the fuel tank filler inlet check valve. the contact's vehicle was not included. the contact stated that fuel leaked out of the fuel tank after filling the tank. the contact noticed a strong odor of fuel while driving. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 156,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while attempting to refuel the vehicle, fuel would erroneously escape from the filler neck and spill out of the vehicle. the cause of the failure was not determined. griffin chrysler dodge (505 7th st, west tifton, ga) stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system), although the failures were the same. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 150,000.

Reason for filing a vehicle safety complaint is as follows; every time i have tried to fill-up my gas tank on my 2005 dodge durango, the gas not only starts to shoot out of the tank itself, but also all over my truck, myself and all over the floor. this happens each time i fill my suv regardless of the gas station i go to.

Everytime i fill the tank up it spits fuel back out at me.

Fuel tank overflows when being filled- doesn't auto stop the pump like it should. this happens whenever the car's gas tank is filled unless the amount of gas needed is estimated lower and the pump is stopped manually.

I have a 2005 dodge durango with the 5.7 hemi engine.. it has 80,000 miles and just recently the engine started shutting off at random times when driving, mostly when i hit a bump in the road.. i have researched this with the national highway safety board website and see there is a hundreds of complaints from feburary 2005 thru present .. there was an investigation opened in 2005 pe05-027 then it was transferred to an engineering analysis ( ea05-018) and then nothing.. i would like to know if the nhtsa dropped the ball on this?? there is no further answers to the complaint.. please advise me what do i have to do to get a n answer to this problem, which is a manufactures error that is going to get me killed or someone else.

When fueling vehicle the fuel will unpredictable overflow and cause gasoline to pour on vehicle and unto the ground. enough fuels overflows to cause puddles of gasoline to form on the ground. if you are standing close to intake it will spray fuel on person operating the pumb. the problem is causing rusting on vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while attempting to refuel the vehicle, there was evidence of a fuel leakage coming from the filler neck of the fuel tank. the contact stated that the failure recurred on every fuel fill up. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 238,990.

My dodge durango is filled with gas it will overflow. the gas pump kicks off and then gas comes spraying back out and spills gas down the side of the car. it will continue pushing gas out for about 30 seconds to a minute. i'm afraid to fill the tank to capacity due to the fire danger or explosion.

Gas comes spewing out of the tank when i'm filling up at the gas station. this only happens with i'm trying to "fill" the tank, at the end of the filling when the pump should stop due to the tank being full. it does not spew out if i'm just putting "some" gas in the tank. this happens at all gas stations so it seems as though this is an issue with the vehicle and not the pump. i've had this problem for several years and just found information on the nhtsa campaign number 09v003000 report receipt date 01/08/2009. this seems to be the same issue i'm having however i was told, today, that my vin # is not included in the 2005 dodge durango vehicles listed in the recall. safety recall number h45 - fuel tank inlet check valve. how do i go about possibly getting my vehicle added to the recall list for this issue? this has been an ongoing issue since i've owned the vehicle. i purchased it brand new in september of either 2004 or 2005.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when attempting to refuel the vehicle, fuel leaked from the gasket once the fuel level reached half a tank. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

My 05 dodge durango, which i am the only owner of, overflows gas while filling up the tank. i was told it is a recall, i called the local dealership to schedule an appointment to fix it, i was treated with absolute disrespect and was told my car was already fixed through the warranty, i assured them i was the only owner and it was never fixed, they again told me it was and they would not pay for it to get fixed again even if it is the same issue that the recall was for. i have had the gas overflow and spray all over me multiple times, including one time while i was holding my infant child. this is not ok and so beyond unsafe!!! it clearly wasn't fixed and i would like it fixed before someone gets hurt! the vehicle was off and parked. i also know multiple people with this same model and theirs do the same thing and all have rust eating through their vehicles on the panel under their gas tanks, was fixing that also in the recall since it is clearly due to the gas overflowing?

When putting gas in the vehicle it does not stop once full it will splash gas on the vehicle, person putting the gas in and will continue to spill onto the pavement. this happens every time you put gas in the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while refueling the vehicle, fuel spewed out of the filler neck onto the ground even though the fuel tank level was not to the full capacity. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when filling the tank with fuel, the fuel pump would not automatically stop as intended. as a result, fuel overflowed and leaked from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shut off valve was faulty and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 99,000.

Gas spilling and squirting out when refueling. this happens each and every time i refuel. i just bought this 2005 dodge durango 2 months ago. gas spills and squirts on my clothes and feet. this is dangerous! please help me get this resolved before i catch on fire or set fire to someone else nearby. i just bought this vehicle at jrs auto sales in tacoma, wa i bought this 2005 dodge durango on january 9, 2016 and gas has spitted out from day one since i bought it each and every time at various gas stations. it has stream out and squirted violently while i was bending down and got into my face and eye. help please!

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while the contact was filling the fuel tank, fuel spilled out. the contact was not able to complete filling the tank. there were no warning indicators illuminated. bender chrysler dodge jeep (3400 mabry dr, clovis, nm 88101, (575) 762-4511) replaced the fuel check valve. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 190,000.

When filling the gas tank, a large amount of fuel always shoots out of the filler neck and spills onto vehicle, ground, and objects around vehicle. also the vehicle does not come with tpms, however the tpms warning light on the instrument panel stays on all the time. also if the rear lift gate is opened the cargo light indicator on the instrument panel stays on until you open and close the lift gate a total of two times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve was not closed as intended. as a result, fuel spilled out while refueling the vehicle. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

When filling car with gas it shoots out filler tube spilling gas on the side of the car and ground.
