I just bought it from a private party and went to fill it up and once it was full it spewed gas all over me and the ground. i thought it was a fluke, but when i filled it up a second time, it did the same thing. i started my search on the internet, and found, there was a recall for 04, 05 , 06, and 07 durangos for this issue. i took it to the dealership, and was told my vin was not included for my 05 durango. i proceeded to go online and talk to dodge directly and got a response that they were standing behind what the dealership said. i proceeded to email them back to get it escalated with no response. i just dont know why there would be recalls all around my vehicle, and my vehicle is doing exactly what the recall said it was doing. hopefully it does not cause a fire hazard, or cause anything to the environment. all i need is to find out how to get my vin number included in the recall or who to talk to, to get it corrected. *tr

Upon fueling gas tank until fill, gas tank spews gasoline out of filler tube. took it in to inspection, and was rejected, due to slight emissions leak. failed inspection. took to diagnostics center and had smoke test. resulted in a slight leak that can not be found. advised to have total fuel tank and refill assembly replaced at $700 +. called chrysler recall hotline, and vin did not match for potential recall potential. *tr
Reason for filing a vehicle safety complaint is as follows; every time i have tried to fill-up my gas tank on my 2005 dodge, the gas not only starts to shoot out of the tank itself, but also all over my truck, myself and all over the floor. the security dodge dealer where the vehicle was originally purchased is insisting there is no such recall for this serious and dangerous issue. on top of that, they are suggesting that i take it in for a diagnostic evaluation and pay $ 110.00 an hour labor fee. please note i am a smoker though not proud of it. even if i weren't i can't understand why they refuse to see this as a incident/accident waiting to happen now or in the future. i would think this would be less of a cost to them, rather taking a chance with a life or lives being lost. priorities ?????? in the meantime i'll continue to have to carry lots of paper towels when getting gas. started nov. 1st. 2012. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while attempting to refuel the vehicle, fuel spewed back out of the tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel filler neck became inoperable and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
I recently purchased a used dodge durango from a used car dealer. the first time the gas station attendant filled up the gas tank, it overflowed. gasoline was all over the side of my car and onto the ground. the attendant was not touching the gas pump handle. the second time i had the car refueled at costco, it happened again. this time, it was even more of a spill and held up the refueling of other vehicles for quite some time while the attendant mopped up the spilt fuel on the side of my car and ground. i contacted my local dodge dealer and reported the problem to them. they checked my vin # with recall notices regarding this type of problem. there was a recall id # 54823 which affected 26,000 vehicles, but apparently not my vin #. i then contacted chrysler corporation. they also said that my vin # did not have a recall notice on the fuel system. recall id # 54823 states "the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. this could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling." i have searched the internet and found this is a common defect with similar makes and models manufactured by chrysler corporation. i do not feel that i should incur an expense for a safety item that has previously been well documented. please help me resolve this safety defect before someone is hurt. Each time i fill the gas tank, if the nozzle is set to automatically shut off, the nozzle shuts off, however fuel overflows the filling tube. often it runs down the side of the vehicle and/or splashes out. i contacted chrysler about a recall in place for these symptoms, however, they said my vehicle is not included. *tr

When filling fuel tank, gas spews out of filler tube posing fire risk, damaging clothing, and adding voc's to atmosphere. many complaints of same thing and even recalls on various model years. makes very little sense why dodge or ntsb doesn't connect the dots and correct this problem in a comprehensive fashion. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, gasoline sprayed from the fill reservoir. the vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's destination and was later taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that a valve inside the fuel tank failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 69,000. the vin was not available.
After purchasing the vehicle used as is, i took the vehicle to completely fill the tank. as the tank became full the pump handle clicked and fuel began to overfill out of the spout. fuel sprayed along the side of the durango and on to my clothes and shoes. i am not happy with the dangers that are possible with this spilling. after doing much research i have came to the conclusion that it is the check valve inside my gas tank. i cannot afford to replace the tank and feel it is the responsibility of dodge to pay for this. they have told me i am not covered under the recall but i feel this is unfair. *tr
Gasoline was ejected from my fill tube at the gas station. after filling the tank the gas nozzle clicked to stop and fuel shot out of the filler tube covering me and my car in gasoline. this happens everytime the car is filled. *tr i understand chrysler/dodge has recognized this problem in many vehicles but for some reason my vehicle was excluded.

I asked the gas attendant to fill up the tank. after about half a minute or so, gas sprayed out of the tank. i would estimate half a gallon of gas or so was sprayed out onto the car and ground. at first i thought it was the gas pump nozzle. did fill ups at three different gas stations and same result. i called the dealership and the mechanic said that only the 4.7s are being recalled not the 5.7s for the gas tank's return valve malfunction which causes the spray. *tr
Fuel overflows when you fill the tank up. gas kicks back smell gas fumes while parked some times. dealer says its not covered. but there is a recall for fuel tank check valve. vehicle was already corrected once for same issue. problem reoccurred. *js
I stopped at the gas station to put gas in my 2005 durango. when it was full the gas sprayed out all over my leg and boots. when i looked for a recall there was one but not for my vin. because of this my finder is rusting out and ever durango i see the same make as mine has the same rust spot. i don't understand why it isn't part of the recall. the gas overflow and the rust spot.
I am the owner of a 2005 dodge durango. we are having an issue were the fuel will not shut off at the pump. there is a recall for that year, but surprisingly enough our vin # does not fall under the recall. we had the fuel tank replaced in january of 2008 under warranty for the same issue. obviously there is an issue with the tanks and their manufacturing process. concern is the tank was replaced with a defective tank that was manufactured during the recall time frame, but concerned is not being addressed because the vin # does not fall with in a certain manufacturing date. i am greatly concerned due to the recall stating that the issue can cause fire. what will it take for dodge to recognize the issue. *tr

When i am filling up my gas tank at a gas station, the pump will kick off when full and a few seconds after you can hear fuel rushing up the tube and then sprays out all over the side of the car and on the ground. the side of my vehicle is starting to rust because of this and i have been held responsible to fuel cleanup at a few gas stations. its my understanding there was a recall issued on some vehicles but since i am not the original owner, i am not sure if this was taken care of. *tr

When we filled up at the gas station the car didn't plug itself when it got full--gas ran out all over my hands, car and ground. this has happened at least 4 times in the last year. the dealership tells me that my vin is not one of the cars registered for a recall for the fuel tank inlet check valve--which it should be! this is a fire waiting to happen!!!! *tt
When refueling the vehicle at the gas pump and the tank becomes full and the gas pump clicks fuel spews out of the gas tank opening.
When filling up the vehicle with gasoline the filler tube does not close and gasoline comes up and out of the tube. i was informed that numerous complaints have been issued, as well as, two recalls, but since my vehicle was manufactured in 3-2005 it is not covered. as this has the potential for injury and fire this recall should be expanded as obviously it affects more vehicles then in the past recall notices. *tr
