Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

While driving at 45 mph (foot not on the gas, going downhill) the vehicle lost all power. was approaching a stoplight and brake to stop. after truck came to full stop due to me braking for light anyhow, brake pedal became hard, unable to push down or pump. stopped at traffic light not knowing what happened since gas tank was full, i shut key (truck) off, and on waited till light turned green, it restarted on the first attempt thank goodness. why the complete powerfailure while driving at 45 mph, i have heard this could be onstar related, even though i am not signed up as a customer, if a trailblazer 07 is stolen or in an accident, i heard the onstar features confusion w/ satellite and causes them all to shut down. don't know if this is true, but something went way wrong, luckily no one was hurt or i'd be suing bigtime. today is 10-12-12, yesterday got a recall notice in the mail for door/windows/locks problem. they will fix for free however no parts to replace are currently available, really??? wow. *tr

The power window switch in the drivers side door was melting and extremely hot to the touch. the switch burned out and we had to remove it to prevent a potential fire. i telephoned gm about it as there had been a recall on my year and model of car but i was told my car didn't fall into the recall. clearly i have the same issue that was reported by others and this has been an issue with that switch since i owned the vehicle. it would stop working then come back on. i took it to them once before but the switch was working so they said there was no issue. *tr updated 10/24/12*lj updated 10/26/2012 *js

My trailblazer was parked in the morning. when i approached my car to go home after work, i found that the driver side window was lowered. i entered my car and noticed a burning smell. i opened the window module and found that the driver's side power window switch was burned. i tried to buy the window module via online and found that there is an investigation going on by nhtsa. *tr

Just got home and it was raining. i hurried up and got out of my driver door. about 15 minutes later after the rain stopped got back in my trailblazer and noticed a burning electrical smell, and that my power locks and windows would not work. when i took of the top panel for the master window i saw that it had burned the panel and even some of the door. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the circuit s on the driver's side door burned out. the contact referenced nhtsa recall campaign id number: 12v406000 (electrical system) for the circuit board, but the manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall campaign. the failure and the current mileages were 72,000. ..updated 11/14/12 *bf the consumer received a recall notice from chevy at the beginning of october 2012. however, the letter indicates parts aren't available yet. the consumer will be notified when they become available. updated 11/19/2012 *js

We were on vacation and we were getting ready to leave and we tried to unlock doors to enter vehicle and all doors except the driver door unlocked. a passenger leaned over to unlock the driver door and hit the driver window down switch. the key was not in the ignition. a burning smell was noticed and the driver door was completely dead. we were able to open the door and drive the vehicle. when i returned home i popped out the driver door module and noticed that the plastic case was melted. i opened the unit and noticed that a wiring harness connecting the 2 printed circuit boards was completely burned. luckily this did not cause a major fire. *tr updated 12/27/12 *cn updated 12/31/2012 *js

Within the past 6 months, various electrical and fuel problems have emerged: the fuel gauge no longer functions at all (it always shows "empty"); the a/c works intermittently; the rear a/c and heater do not function regularly; the service engine light is always lit; odd and random issues with the stereo system occur (stations & settings randomly changing on their own, powering on/off by itself, not powering on/off as it should, & only one speaker is working at the moment); the key not releasing from the ignition; engine not turning over to start; battery dying without reason; power steering failure; alt. gauge dropping; reduced engine power while on the highway (suddenly limiting speed to 20 mph or less); rear wiper turning on by itself; power seat malfunctioning; rough engine idle; entire instrument panel lighting up; running out of fuel while the gauge indicates that there is ample fuel in the tank; brake lamps not functioning; reduced gas mileage. on 02/25/2013, the controls on the driver's side doors stopped working; the windows will not operate or lock/unlock, the exterior mirrors will not adjust, and the locking mechanism will not work. i have brought the vehicle to the dealership for diagnostic testing at least a half dozen times, and each time no problems were detected, no explanations given, and no remedies suggested! from what i've gathered, there were recalls issued for electrical/wiring problems as well as fuel gauge problems, yet i have never received notice of any such recalls from gm! *tr

Driver's side door switch panel had an electrical fire (smoke only, no visible flames) while in motion. driver side window operated without driver's touch, smoke from electrical fire inside of door came thru seams of the interior finish panels. fire did not spread however no controls on the panel work anymore. *tr

Drivers side window and lock control panel does not work. control panel for side mirrors does work. i cannot lock my doors from the drivers side or roll up/down any windows in my vehicle from the drivers side .. the passenger side window and lock control panel works, rear drivers side window control panel works, and rear passenger side window control panel works. i have had the fuses checked and they are all fine. i have a child and "liked" to keep my back windows locked for the safety of my child, now that my control panel does not work i cannot lock my windows when needed for the safety of my child. i do not have any control over the locks or windows from the drivers door. my keyless entry will unlock all passenger doors and rear hatch, but i have to manually lock the drivers door when exiting my vehicle and use my key to manually unlock the drivers door to get into my vehicle. i see many complaints about this being an issue with this make and model chevy. not just the complaints and issues with this problem, how about the safety of our kids having control over their windows and locks????? when the driver should have control over window, locks ect.......per law the driver is responsible for everyone in any vehicle....how can the driver of these vehicles with this ongoing problem be in control of the locks and windows if they do not work???? this could cause minor to fatal injuries with small children including adults. this needs to be a recall on gm! *tr updated 05/29/13*lj updated 05/31/2013 *js

Driver side door and window switch module failed incremently starting with the windows then door and window locks.this failure occurred over a period of approximately week, ending with a complete failure of the switch module. at around the same time the fuel gauge began to show empty after filling up along with the low fuel light. the window switch's on the other doors remain operational. i believe this to be a safety issue, as the driver has no control of doors or windows with children in the vehicle. chevy dealer says this window switch is 426 dollars plus labor and the fuel gauge problem is another 450 dollars. from what i gather this is a common problem with the trail blazer with no offer by gm to replace known defective parts. there were no fires or injuries. *tr

Vehicle was parked for the evening, turned off, no key in ignition, and unattended. driver door module worked fine the previous day. the next morning, no parts of the module worked. upon investigation, we discovered that the left side of the module by the driver window button had a burn spot on it and smelled like an electrical fire. the dealer quoted the part only price as over $300.00. *tr updated 7/31/12 *cn the dealer replaced the door lock module. updated 08/01/12

Driver noticed smoke and burning electrical/plastic smell coming from the driver door in the area of the door and window buttons. stopped at a service station and had the mechanic look at it. he pulled out the driver control module and said it had started to burn. the top and side of the unit was melted. this rendered all of the buttons inoperable. the door control unit was left out of the door to minimize further risk. *tr updated 9/13/12 *cn

Vehicle was parked with all doors locked and the vehicle not running. the remote unlock button was engaged and all doors unlocked with the exception of the driver door. the remote unlock was engaged 3 to 4 more times. the door was manually unlocked from passenger's side. when the door was opened, smoke was pouring out of the inside. we poured available liquids down the window slot but smoke was still pouring out. while my spouse went inside the business where we were parked to grab a pitcher of water, i jerked the plastic oval piece around the inside door handle off and saw flames. he returned with the pitcher and we poured the water down the open hole at the door handle and finally managed to extinguish the flames. we drove the vehicle home but none of the door functions worked at all. it is going to cost me approximately $600 to fix this issue. i have been afraid to drive my trailblazer since that time. also the fuel gauge quit working about 3 months ago. we finally fixed that issue today. the next issue to repair after the door is the heat/air actuator as the air conditioning no longer comes thru my air conditioning vents. *tr.. updated 08-27-12 *bf the consumer also stated the fuel gauge stopped working. updated 08/28/12

The power window, side view mirrors power seat and power door locks stopped working. took it to a private mechanic and the wires have melted. the module cost me $385.00 plus another $110.00 to program the module. i also have a problem with the gas gauge, it tells me that i have low fuel but even when i fill the car up, it still tells me that i have low fuel. *tr

Some of the items forthcoming happen all together and/or intermittently separate. the initial issues noticeably started upon my arrive in south carolina, but it was not something that immediately recognized before my relocation, because i thought it was something i did myself. i came out to my car on saturday, 6/16/12. my car window was down and some items were stolen. i did not see any glass on the ground so i thought i left the window down myself and someone just stolen items. after speaking with the complex security and reporting the incident to hoa, i came out the truck again it smelled of wires burning and the window was down again. several days later the tire pressure light was on and took the truck to get the wheels balanced and oil change at firestone. the tire pressure light would not go out, nor did the engine and oil light go out. a few months after that the smell of wires burning happened again and the engine remained on for over 2 weeks, then went off. in the late fall there was a really bad thunderstorm and when arrived to truck after work; running in rain, i saw that my window was down and i could not get the window back up for about 5 minutes. i was soaked and so was the car. the truck received an oil change recently and all the lights would not go out and the walmart mechanic who did the oil change stated that he smelled gas and some wires burning, lights on panel would not go out. smell of wires burning. engine light comes on and stays on for days-then goes off by itself. all lights emergency lights on panel intermittently on (oil/traction/tire pressure). fuel gauge shows/clicks as full, smells like gas in truck and runs out of fuel with gauge showing full. driver's window goes down when keys are not in truck. heating knob on off, still blowing hot or cold air and gauge does not turn on past 2. lights dim when using power button for windows. *tr

The windows on my 2007 trailblazer ss are constantly (nearly daily) getting stuck in the down or up position and do not respond to the switches. the vehicle must be turned off and on several times for the computer to make the windows work again. i've been caught passing through heavy rains on the highway with windows that won't roll up without the opportunity to safely pull over and turn the vehicle on and off a dozen times to make the windows temporarily work again. it also affects the door locks from completely locking leaving my vehicle vulnerable to theft.

The ignition will not turn off unless the bright lights are on. at times, it will start automatically even when the ignition switch is turned off. sometimes the ignition will not turn on or off at all. fuel system is faulty. consistently problems have caused the fuel pump to go out repeatedly, and the fuel gauge to stop working. motor in the drivers seat stopped working after months of problems. the radio has stopped working. we've replaced the fuse, and have been told its an electrical problem.

This incident was originally transmitted to nhtsa for investigation purposes and i was in contact with [xxx] from nhtsa. after recall was issued, i contact gm regarding the situation so that i could get reimbursed for charges due to this recall and gm has refused to offer any assistance they said based on my vin. i cannot understand why if i had this exact problem and was part of the nhtsa investigation process for this recall that gm is not honoring the recall. my vehicle matches all the recall information, yet gm says it is vin specific and mine is not part of the recall, and refuses to help me. please help? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving home from work and started smelling burned wires - then smoke started pouring out of all creases in my driver side door. i pulled over and had a drink with me and dumped the whole thing into the door to get it to stop. fire dept came and told me not to drive the vehicle and had it towed to the dealership. the dealership determined in was a faulty driver door window regulator and it had a hole burned through it. i looked on internet and saw this ad: http://autos.winnipegfreepress.com/news-article/id-4400/ this is exactly what happened to my car. insurance says not covering it. i could have been injured very badly as i was on the highway and there was so much smoke in my car. *js

2007 trailblazer ss drivers door module/window switch on my normal commute to work, i had noticed a faint burning smell of plastic that would only linger in the cabin for a few seconds. the smell continued for almost a week with the same symptoms and then disappeared for almost 4 days. after the smell of burning plastic was no longer there, one night while driving, the drivers door module lights (drivers, passenger, rear windows, window locks, and lock) were flickering and noticeably power surging. i was concerned about this issue so i had done some research online looking for any information that may lead to a solution to my problem and if any other trailblazer owners were experiencing the same problem. seemed to be a pretty popular problem among trailblazer owners ranging from 2004 and up. some research indicated that wires may had been broken inside the insulation that goes from the interior of the car to the door. i had the vehicle inspected at a chevy dealership and they told me that the ddm was functional and just needed a fuse replacement. that same night when moving the vehicle from the street to my driveway, smoke started pouring from the top of the door panel and it was obvious that plastic was burning and on fire. i then pried the drivers door module off and noticed a dime sized hole right under where the drivers window switch button is located. that hole still singing i disconnected the ddm and have been driving with non-operational windows ever since. *tr

Every couple months the alternator goes out i am almost to the limit on my warranty returns.the first time it went out it wasn't charging then several times after that it went out was over charging and in doing so damaged my battery so i had to pay to replace it also. i have had nothing but problems with this car and is becoming a money pit. *tr

My right passenger door panel caught on fire. the car was parked in the drive way and was not running. when will this be recalled? does some one have to die before this is fixed. this is a known on going issue. its sad when you look out your door and see your car smoking while it is not running. *tr

I had a drivers master power switch that melted too, it happened on march 04 2012. we got in the car and could smell something, we drove with the windows opened for about 1 hour. on march 5, we went out again but had to pull into a auto repair shop, the smell was still there. they pulled the master switch on the drivers door and the switchs had all melted together. he disconnected everything. we contacted chevrolet and they are in the process of replacing all the switchs. i'm worring about the smell and if it will go away. this must have happened during the night before we got in the car. *tr

I was having problems with the drivers side door control panel for about 3 days. on 2/22/12 the controls did not work for the drivers side window and the window was stuck in the up position. on 2/23/12 when returning to my vehicle the window was in the complete down position. i started my vehicle in attempt to roll up the window but the controls didn't work. after about 15 seconds i noticed a burning plastic smell coming from the controls. i immediately shut off the vehicle and popped off the control module to find smoke coming out of the opening. i disconnected the wires and removed the module. i could see what appears to be an internal fire in the module due to the melted plastic and housing of the unit. i'm glad that i have some sense of mechanical aptitude because this could have caused a lot of damage. *tr

I left my house for work at approximately 0650 hrs on february 19th, 2012. upon exiting my neighborhood's entrance, i accelerated to 35 mph. about 100 yards down the road, i begin to smell burning plastic and as i looked down i observed thick smoke billowing from the openings of my driver side door panel. i didn't know what to do except stop the vehicle and shut it off. even when off, the smoke continued to billow until i disconnected the battery. needless to say i was late to work, so i reconnected the battery in an attempt to make my way to work in a reasonable amount of time. when i started my car, the dome lights would not turn off, the gas gauge was inoperable and the driver side windows/locks were rendered inoperative. as i pulled into work, i glanced over and saw the smoke emitting from the door panel again, but it was not as thick as the first time. thankfully, my coworkers were standing by ready to assist me as it had begun to rain. this event could have ended much worse if the door panel had actually caught fire. i have a newborn son who is approximately 5 weeks old and the trailblazer is our main source of transport. it makes me angry to think about the possibility of him being in the vehicle with me and having an event such as this occur. hopefully gm will issue a recall. until then, i have to find a way to pay for the repairs on a faulty vehicle. *tr

Initially the driver's door lock and window controls (for all doors and windows) stopped working. on february 17th, while driving the vehicle, smoke was visibly emitting from the inner door handle. the entire switching system had to be replaced. *tr

When i started my car, i went to turn the ac on and there was beeping and the emergency brake, abs/stability, and a few other instrument panel lights come on. the overhead interior light comes on as well and the air will not blow out. the only way to get this to stop is to turn the a/c off or either turn it up to the highest level (5). if it is on 5 and i try to turn it down, the beeping starts and the lights come on. sometimes it will just happen randomly even if i don't touch the air. once while i was on the interstate doing 75 mph, it randomly happened and my car stalled and slowed down as if it were cutting off which scared me so badly because if my car had cut off i could have been in a serious accident, or even with it slowing down the way it did. my foot was on the gas driving and the car just started slowing out of nowhere. also, the air bag light has come on and will not go off and the air bag has never been deployed. i love my truck so much, but am considering getting rid of it if i cannot get any assistance with getting it fixed because of my concern for my family's safety as well as other drivers on the road. *tr

Lowered drivers window after a minute or two smelled plastic burning saw smoke coming from control panel i ripped the panel out to see melted plastic and stronger smell of plastic burning control box is melted completely thru i pulled all but two connector plugs as the remaining two connectors are fused to the control box and can not disconnect them. *tr

My fuel gauge no longer works. i also have no power anything on my drivers side door. *tr

Fuel gauge drops to empty with low fuel light coming on, no matter how much gas is in vehicle. sometimes it fluctuates back and forth. never sure how much gas is in vehicle. which this creates a big problem since i transport handicap people in my vehicle. also driver side window operates very slow, sometimes it hesitates on rolling up. i have to let it set for a while, then try rolling it up again. after several times doing this, it has finally rolled up all the way. i think the dealer should fix these problems, without consumer paying for any of it. especially since these seem to be ongoing problems. i have been lucky reference my door panel hasn't caught fire yet, which could cause a serious traffic accident. also my slick, skid control lights come on very easily when i take off and stay on till i can shut the car off and restart it, and hope doesn't come back on when i start to drive. *tr

I woke up one morning to a smoky garage and noticed my driver door module had caught on fire, luckily the whole truck did not catch on fire in my garage while my family and i were inside our home sleeping. i can no longer control the power windows and locks in my truck. i contacted my local chevy dealer and they tried charging me nearly $1000.00 for a module and door panel replacement and notified me there were no such recalls on my vehicle at this time. this is not the first incident i also had another fire while at a drive through window, the wiring to the cigarette lighters inside my vehicle caught on fire a few weeks after the door again the chevy dealer said there are no recalls and i would have to pay out of pocket. so many what if questions come to mind. this is not the only trailblazer i have known or read upon to have electrical issues or even fire damage. gm definitely needs to take responsibility before there is harm to anyone due to these unknown fires. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that he smelled burning fumes inside of the vehicle. while inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that a door fuse was blown. the contact replaced the fuse and a fire ignited on the front driver's door. the contact was able to extinguish the fire by removing the fuse. the fire department was not notified. the vehicle was then taken to a local repair shop, who verified the failure and stated that the door panel and switch plate needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.

I noticed that when i roll the windows up or down the lights flicker. now i am hearing the sound like the doors are locking or unlocking by themselves and i am not touching anything. this happens when i am going 60 as well as when i am going slower speeds. *tr

The fuel gauge on my 2007 chevy trailblazer began fluctuating from proper fuel level reading to empty at around 74,000 miles. after few weeks of this, the fuel gauge now consistently reads empty after driving 115 - 120 miles on a full tank, which indicates a failure of the fuel sensing unit. i am driving the vehicle based on the trip odometer and i have run out of gas twice since this is not a reliable way to estimate the amount of fuel in the tank. both times i was on my way to work a on heavily traveled bridge with no shoulder. this is a huge safety hazard!!! also at around 75,000 miles the driver side door lock stopped working and the electronic stability control off light and electronic stability control maintenance light periodically turn on. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the driver's door and window failed. the driver's door could not be unlocked automatically and the door would only open manually. in addition, the window could not be opened. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number:12v40600 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.

Fuel sensor never gives correct reading causing me to run out of gas on 2 separate occasions, also the drivers side door control panel keeps going on and off only working some of the time and going in and out as i am driving. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that when entering the vehicle, she noticed that the windows could not be opened. the contact also smelled a burning odor but did not see smoke or a fire. the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised the contact that after removing the door, the connectors in the driver's side door were found to be melted and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was later contacted and they advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000 and the current mileage was approximately 67,000. the vin was unavailable.

While driving the low beam head lights will go out the only way to restore the lights is to turn car off and wait 10 min then the lights will come back on but go back off shortly after. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving 35 mph when the front driver side door / insulation caught on fire. my husband poured a cup of water to put out the fire. the entire interior door panel, power master window switch and harness had to be replaced. the contact was not injured. the contact also stated prior to the failure the door failed to open and the power windows failed to operate. the vehicle was not destroyed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 77,000. the driver's side door switch and module assembly caused the fire. there was damage to the wiring harness, door trim panel and insulation. the inner door handle and power mirror switch needed to be replaced. pictures received 05/07/12

I noticed months ago that the lights weren't working on the power windows switches on the driver's side of the truck. i have definitely noticed some odd smells (burning/melting/plastic/chemical) that i was never sure where they were coming from. before the issues with the lights, which was probably around the beginning of november, the one touch window opening control button (all the way down with only one touch instead of holding the window button) stopped functioning, the window would stall in the middle of either closing it or opening it and when it didn?t stall and closing/opening was successful it would be very, very, very, very, very slow. the window in my truck is now dead. it will not operate at all. i went to try to shut it monday night and it wouldn?t shut, there is about 2-3 inches of space where the window is down. there is no power to any of my window controls, or to my power locks on the driver?s side. while doing some research on this issue i came upon this site where others had listed very similar problems. i also understand that this is currently under investigation to see if a recall is warranted. given that this is a very well known problem, what recourse is there for the unsuspecting consumer? i purchased this vehicle less than 1 year ago as a used vehicle. *tr

On or about 18 oct 2011, i smelled a burnt electrical odor in the vehicle, i began checking for the source and found that when i adjusted the drivers side door mirror, the drivers window lowered, and the smell got stronger, when the mirror adjustment switch was returned to the center(neutral) position, the drivers window switch operated the passenger window. i removed the drivers door switch module, i found it to be the source, as i repeated the troubleshooting process, i actually saw the white hot arcing taking place within the switches (the electrical connectors were not burnt or damaged). i disconnected and removed the switch module. the next day i took the vehicle to the local dealer whereas, they ordered the new part and replaced it (parts & labor $460.73 + tax). i asked if there were any service bulletins or recalls on this problem, they told me that there wasn't...now my question is...is the new switch module also going to arc eventually? am i out $460.00? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the wires in the door panel melted. the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic and the mechanic could not diagnose the failure. the contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer. the failure mileage was 64,000.

Intermittently the power locks, windows and auxiliary power would work and not work. after a few weeks of the 'work, not work' it just plain failed to work. *tr updated 09/07/12*lj repair orders received. updated 09/11/12

I purchased my 2007 chevrolet trailblazer ls in may 2009. i initially noticed that the windows moved slowly and would moan when going up and down as well as the lights dimming simultaneously. i took it in on multiple occasions to accredited chevy dealerships and they said nothing was wrong and it might be your battery. my driver side window occasionally would not respond and 10-20 minutes later would be active again. finally this year october 2012 all functionality was lost from the driver side door. my driver door module burnt out and needs to be replaced. since then i have been driving around with no operating ddm which in return affects locks, lighting, windows, mirrors etc. this is very inconvenient and i would like some answers. i don't want to have to purchase a new ddm at $500 and have it burn out again or cause a fire in some cases. *tr
