Brakes suddenly failed upon entering a highway requiring me to press the brake pedal to the floor in order to stop. inspection and actuationshowed brake fluid squirting out of rusty brake lines. i am a metallurgist, i know what corrosion is. i am so thankful that no one was killed. i live in florida. the truck has never been out of the state.

The spare tire underneath the 2004 chevy silverado will not release from the cable mechanism when lowered. i was able to get the tire to lower approximately two to three inches but the secondary locking mechanism would not release the tire from the mechanism holding it. searching many websites under the keywords "2004 chevy silverado spare tire will not release from mount" showed that this is an enormously huge and widespread problem for most models containing an under the vehicle spare tire mounting mechanism. i was fortunate that i was in the city when my tire went flat because i was able to call a wrecker quickly. but, for the times i am traveling on the highway this has made me come to the realization that this is an enormous safety issue. why hasn't this design flaw been addressed by gm? it is now apparent to me this has been going on for quite some time. i firmly believe this is a safety issue and should be addressed by gm as a design flaw? in addition, it really should be an item that needs to be addressed by a nationwide recall. i understand that my vehicle is seven years old, but from reading the widespread complaints about this design flaw (not being able to release the spare tire), i felt it was important to report about the widespread failures in the mounting mechanism for under the truck bed spare tires. *tr

I have a 2004 chevy silverado and the speedometer gets stuck on a different number every time i get in it. it never goes back to zero and i never know how fast i am going. i contacted a friend that works for a gm dealership and he said they had a recall on all 2003 and 2004 for this problem. so i took it up there and the man i talked to said the recall was only good for trucks under 70,000 miles. my truck has 128000 miles. but it seems to me if they knew it was a bad part and how important this part was it shouldn't have a mileage limit for a recall. *tr
