08-02-2011 i see ford recalled f150 for gas tank strap failure. gm needs to also. i have a 1999 chevy silverado. gas tank strap rusted threw and broke 07-26-2011. tank dropped down but not completely off. *kb

My son was driving my 1999 chevrolet silverado at 55 -60 mph and the gas tank straps failed (rusted completely through) and the gas tank fell out onto the highway. before he could determine what had fallen off the vehicle, there was a hole worn in the tank due to being dragged on the asphalt. it spilled a full tank of gas on the highway. the truck had to be towed on a flatbed truck. we had to replace the gas tank straps, fuel pump and gas tank. there were no injuries but the fire dept. and police had to be called as a precautionary measure before we could load it onto the flatbed tow truck . *tr

after filling up my truck and got speed up to about 65mph my gas gauge went to empty and then would come back up after hitting a bump in the road or rocking the truck back and forth , also the light on the gear shift lever kept going out and couldn't tell what gear i was in, could peck on console and light might come back on but stays off most of the time now. now the fuel gauge still acts up and it does not give and accurate reading.have to set my trip timer each time i fillup so i will know how much gas i have unless someone steals a lot of it then i usually run out of gas along side the road. Tl*the contact owns a 1999 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that when attempting to brake, the vehicle would continue moving another five feet before the brakes would grab. also, the contact was driving at 60 mph on the highway when the vehicle suddenly completely shut down. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that a new starter and new fuel sending unit needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired at that time. the rear seal on the engine was leaking oil; the dealer repaired the seal. the contact also noticed that the rotors were peeling; the contact repaired the problem at his expense. the braking issue was the most recent problem and had not been corrected at the time of the complaint. the manufacturer had not been notified of the brake problem. the current mileage was approximately 140,000. the failure mileage was approximately 138,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 chevrolet c 1500 pick-up truck. while driving 40 mph the fuel module assembly malfunctioned causing the fuel gauge to read inaccurate fuel levels. the contact stated that at times the fuel light comes on indicating that the vehicle was low on fuel. the contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer at this time but feels the vehicle was experiencing the same issue that's stated in the recall (05v155000) fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump for the 2001 chevrolet suburban. the contact stated that the manufacturer should extend the recall for his year make and model vehicle. the failure mileage was 158,000.

1999 chev. silverado. throttle hangs causing vehicle to accelerate either forward or reverse rapidly. normally sticks from full stopped position possibly causing crashes, particularly in reverse from a parking position. problem was repaired under warranty, warranty has expired and problem has returned. could cause serious personal and vehicle damage. *tr

Brake line blew out due to corrosion when pulling to a stop light, was able to stop the truck w/o incident. this was 8aug09. repaired on 12aug09. on 5aug11 went to replace shocks thinking they were shot, problem discovered, entire shock mount rail assembly had rusted away from the frame and is hanging in the air. mileage: 148876. on 30sep11 gas tank dropped to the ground due to corrosion of frame, and also exhaust system components have rotted away from the frame and now hanging, there are also some cracks in the frame, mileage 149476. there is no rust or damage to the body on this truck at all. it still looks like a new truck. the frame is rotting away from under the truck. i should have bought a ford. will never buy another chevy. from what i see, this is a known problem that gm knows all about and refuses to do anything about all these trucks. gm should recall and replace everyone's frames on trucks like mine that have perfect bodies before someone gets killed. *tr

Fuel pump quits working, i'm going to replace it for a third time. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact placed bad gasoline in his vehicle once and had to replace the fuel tank. while removing the tank, he noticed that the frame was corroded and had spread to the rear bumper. the auto garage stated that the frame needed to be rebuilt. the repair cost would exceed $1,500; therefore, the contact is unable to have the vehicle repaired at this time. the manufacturer filed a report and sent an investigator to inspect the frame, and concluded that they were not going to assist with the repair because the vehicle is over eight years old. the current and failure mileages were 145,000.

My 1999 chevy silverado 1500 4wd vehicle would lurch and stall as if it weren't getting enough fuel. the fuel filter was replaced and 2 hours later the same symptoms occurred. eventually the fuel pump and injectors #7 & #8 were replaced at a cost of $1413.84. three weeks later the same symptoms occurred. it has been determined that the fuel line is rusted out & there was a tsb #000604024; however, we were never notified of this. replacement of the fuel line etc. is now estimated to cost another $1500.00. we will be asking for the old fuel line as proof of the rust that caused this problem. *jb

I have a 1999 chevrolet silverado lots of fuel problems the gauge fluctuates and the pump is shot again. and also have put 3 window regulaters in drivers side and 1 in passengers side. have friends with the same truck and same problems. *tr

Several years ago my fuel gauge began acting up. it would flip quickly to the "no gas" position periodically and then flip back several minutes later. the low fuel light would go off and on. when i fill the truck up it always flips to the empty position and then begins it's back and forth flipping. i have trained everyone in my family to always reset the mileage indicator and watch it carefully to insure they don't run out of gas. i've had numerous cars over the years (honda for 20 years) and have never experienced a problem like this. at the present time, two people i know with the same truck built the same year or within a year of mine have the same problem. i'm wondering why a recall has not been issued for this problem. *tr

Throttle body sticking at low speeds throttle sticks until pedal is pushed beyond desired point causing vehicle to surge forward. i hit garage wall. exact problem occurred at 30,000 miles, dealer replaced throttle body(bad bushings) under warranty. *jb

1999 chevrolet silverado 1500 pickup customer states that he received a recall letter for the abs and after getting brakes fixed the pickup started having problems with starting idling**cc the consumer took the vehicle back to dealer, who then stated the abs motor was running constantly and the fuse needed to be pulled or the battery would die. once the fuse was pulled, the noise stopped. the dealer said to fix the problem would be costly and to just drive the vehicle. once the consumer left the dealer the brake light illuminated, the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer and it was determined that the abs module was bad. the consumer stated everything was fine before the recall was performed. the consumer was told the starting problems were due to the fuel pressure regulator needing to be replaced. the dealer decided to split the cost of the abs module with the consumer. *tr

My fuel gauge is not accurate. when the vehicle is full the gauge reads empty and when it is the vehicle is empty the fuel gauge reads full and so on. the gauge is very sporadic pointing to whatever level of fuel it wants to, never displaying the true amount of fuel in the fuel tank. i have to depend on my odometer to read the fuel tank amount somewhat accurately; at least much more accurate than the fuel gauge which is totally inaccurate all the time. this is a big problem and from the information i have received, not at all an isolated one. it seems that every '99 chevy silverado has the same issue. *tr

Gas leaks from pump becaise hole is not perfectly round. gas flows to top of tank. dealer has to replace tank with a new tank.*ak

Fuel pump keeps going out on consumer already has had one pump installed in vehicle. currently, pump malfunctioned again. contacted dealer, and dealer said that warranty expired. *ak
