Problems with 2016 Chevrolet Malibu UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 42 137 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

I was driving home from work this morning, and the speed of the car slowed down and wouldn't go faster than 20 miles per hour. there was plenty of cars behind me making the sudden drop of speed unsafe. i took it to the dealership and was told it was the throttle, and that it's not covered by my warranty. i have heard it's common in 2016 malibu's. i haven't had this car that long, and is currently being worked on.

When i park the car put shift into park, a message comes up saying: shift into park when i have already shifted to park, so i start the car and shift into park and the message goes off and sometime i have to do repeat the procedure.

My electronic control system is misfiring for a few days now. it is causing my stability control light to come in and also my engine light. when the stability light comes on my car shakes a little bit while driving. i put my vehicle on a diagnostic test and the codes came back that the ecm is misfiring

Had heavy rain and i woked up to rear side car seats wet and carpet soaked and wet the car smelled really bad after some days . i had to take out the rugs out my car . my car is so humid inside i seen mold growing on my carpet ! my car windows also have so much condensation in the inside it drips . come to find out water is coming from the 3brake light !!!!!! this needs a recall too many people having the same issue with these cars !!!!!

Throttle control system went our while i was driving down the road. extremely dangerous as there is no warning!

While driving down the road vehicle shuts down with a notification saying engine power reduced to where you have to pull off the side of the road and shut the car off three or four times before it will get back to where it's supposed to be. very unsafe when it shuts down going down the highway at 55 and it slows you down to under 20 you have to pull off weaving in and out of traffic very dangerous.

Every so often i get a stability control error on my dash as well as power engine has been reduced with a check engine light. also every time it rains my car seems to be getting wet from the interior. all back rear seats and my ceiling

When it rains vehicles trunk and tail lights will fill with water. the back of the interior part of the roof also feels with water which has caused a musty smell along with a water stain on the roof. the trunk and back part of the roof leaks while parked and in motion.

Within the last month my car has completely shut off while driving three separate times. first time i was driving and at a stop light on a hill the car completely shut down. i tried starting it multiple times . at first all the lights and radio will turn on and then minutes later that car started back up. second time i was at another stop light and the car completely shut off again. same thing started back up after about 2-3 min of re trying. third time was yesterday i pulled into a parking lot and turned the car off and then went to re start it and nothing. after about five minutes it started back up again. called the dealership and they said it can take hours to days to figure out the problem. they told me they would have to wait for the problem to happen again. i dont even want to drive my car anymore considering i could harm myself and potentially other people with this problem. they said there is no recall or bulletins on the problem. doing research online looks like a good amount of people are having the same problem.

The car when stop at traffic light shuts off and will not start. on star diagnostic have stated several times its due to engine issues. it sometimes seems as if it's drops in speed when driving. i was informed by the chevyland dealership that i had a software update and a thottle body injection issues that ironically my car didn't make the recall last however the same make, model cars have been listed.

The trunk of the car is filled with water that has been dripping out all day. the rear roof of the car is soaked on both sides. the car smells musty & all of the inside windows had so much condensation it was dripping.

Have issue where i am receiving a shift to park message and my vehicle is in a mode as if it's not in park. i have to pull forward and shift car from drive to park until it turns off. otherwise if i leave it as is, its awhile before it turns, im afraid it will run my battery down. it happens on a daily basis. almost late for work waiting for it to turn off at times. will not allow you to lock car with keyless remote either when it's like this

Shift to park message appears when in park and turning vehicle off. vehicle then won't shut down.

This issue happens at random times. when i crank up, when i'm at a traffic light, or even just at a stop sign, sometimes my car will turn completely off. it will crank back up, sometimes, but sometimes it takes quite a few times. also, again as i crank up. it goes back to off. instead of going to auto stop, it will cut completely off too. i have no engine light or any other lights that come on to alert me that something is wrong but it happens randomly and has been happening more frequently and it is concerning. also, it feels like the car is kicking or firing back now when i am driving. this is random also.

The car will be in park and the dash is saying it isn't in park and all the ligths and battary will not shut down causing the battary to draina nd the car is not lockable , you have to turn it back on and put it back in drive sometimes sevrel times to get it to register that it is in park and the car to fully shut down

Dash says to shift to park when shutting car off, even though it's already in park

When i turn off my car. the message shift to park pops up and i have to keep turning on and off the car until the message " shift to park" disappears. if i leave it like that the radio turns on really loud. my car is not even 3 years old. this started about a month ago and it went away for a few days and it came back again.

When turning my car off in park the key snapped off in the ignition. it got stuck in park and had to be towed home witch was hard since it could not be put into neutral. it broke off all the way up at the key fob.

When i come to a complete stop, put the car into park and kill the motor it is not recognizing that the car is in park. the radio keeps playing and the information board reads "shift to park". this has to be done repeatedly. it has done this before but stopped. it started doing it again 6/20/2019

My issue started a few days ago and has progressively gotten worse. i place the car in park, shut off the vehicle and a message appears to "shift to park" car is turned off and already in park and you cannot just get out of the vehicle for it to go away it just remains on the screen and the car remains on in an auxiliary type mode which i'm pretty sure if left alone would eventually drain the battery. it had gotten worse since i was having to turn the car off and on multiple times before it would register it was actually in park. the dealership currently has my car and has told me the shifter assembly needs replaced. i had sent them a screen shot of the service report from gm which you can find here https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/mc-10154985-999.pdf which states the problem multiple people are having. my car has 21k miles on it and i've only had it for two years. i'm going to be very upset if i end up having to pay this out of pocket even though the car is still technically under warranty from the date i purchased in 2017.

I have a 2016 chevrolet malibu with roughly 50,000 miles on it. for a little over a year now, it is no longer recognizing when the car is placed in park. i took the vehicle into my local chevy dealer (where we have all oil changes/work done on the vehicle) and they stated the shifter assembly needs replacing. i am quite upset over this as there are thousands of complaints of this happening to individuals and gm is not taking responsibility for it. i should not have to replace a shifter assembly in this new of a car and especially a car that has been well taken care of. i have been quoted $1,000 to replace the shifter assembly. i have maintained my vehicle doing all the necessary work/oil changes and all recommended maintenance. once the vehicle is in park and you go to shut the vehicle off, an alarm dings and displays a message saying "shift to park." the vehicle is in park, you can remove your foot from the brake and it does not roll. you can not walk away from the vehicle because the battery will then drain. normally, vehicle has to be restarted and placed in drive then shift back to park in order for it to go off. this is happening consistently now. this could become even a greater issue than gm is realizing as if you do not pay attention to the message, your car can remain on and individuals could die from carbon monoxide. this is an issue that gm & chevy needs to address sooner than later.

When the car is in a stationary position and attempting to turn off the car, i received an error on my dashboard display stating 'shift to park' however the car is showing in park. car will not turn off completely. after restarting the car and shifting into drive/reverse, and attempting to turn off the car numerous times it may finally register in park and allow the car to be completely shut off.

There is times i will stop put car in park and shut engine off and the screen will read shift to park. so i will have to start it again pull ahead or back up and try it again. there is times i have to do it many times before it registers and sometimes only once. for the date of when it happened that was the last time it did it but has done it in the past

Takata recall ihave a 2016 chevrolet malibu it has 23000 miles on it. i took it in to be looked at because it was no longer recognizing when i placed it in park. my 36,000mile warranty ended 2 months ago to the day i had it at the dealership. i was told i needed to replace the shifter assembly, i am quite upset because there's only 23,000 miles on this and i feel this should be covered by the drive train warranty or as a recall. i have seen several reports recently regarding this same issue in the 2016 chevy malibu's that are the same style as mine. bottom line 23,000 miles on a chevy malibu should not have to replace a shifter assembly and cost 1300 dollars out of pocket to do so. i have maintained my vehicle doing all of the necessary work or oil changes and recommended maintenance. when parking the vehicle i have placed it in park and an alarm goes off saying place your vehicle in park, it's in park but you cannot walk away from the car because the battery will then drain or i will have bigger issues. i have to restart the car, shift into drive and slowly place my car in park to get the message to clear and it recognize that it is in park. this happens at work, in a parking lot, in my garage, at the store, and sometimes it happens several times in a row after restarting again and again.

My 2016 chevy malibu has 93,000 miles on it. no issues until this day. last week i was driving it in a neighborhood about 40 miles from my home. when i got to the neighborhood i had to apply my brakes. the brakes were locked at top of the pedal. i was unable to stop. scared the [xxx] out of me! dropped the people off. drove 3 blocks to a 7 11, scared to drive any further. parked and the car died and would not start. waiting 3 hours for the tow truck, finally got the chevy malibu and myself home a 5am. had a mobile mechanic run a diagnostic on it. multiple issues came up. everything from multiple brake issues and even more engine issues. had to towed to a chevy dealership near by. brake tech ran a diagnostic, said not brakes it's an engine issue. engine tech says it 'maybe' timing or cam shaft. $2500 on a maybe, best they can tell from the diagnostic. from all the reviews i have read about this very same issue and the guessing game at owners expense. none of these have fixed the issues. while reading the reviews, i read 3 people have died from this very same issue. in addition gm has remove any and all warranty on this vehicle above the 36,000 miles. gm will not take any responsibility for the chevy malibu death trap which they are fully aware of. no recall, no repair support for the dealership that now is involved with this worthless product. my question for gm is how many people have to die before they will do anything about it? i say to the ceo of gm. i want one of your family members to have my car as there daily drive. but wait the engine will not even turn over. nothing but a paperweight now. to all head honchos at gm i have large car parts the need to be placed were the sun don't shine. take responsibility for your product!!! i will inform every website, social media and any forum possible about your products and your complete lack of ethics. *bf information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When i shift my vehicle to park and shut it off it will tell me on screen to shift to park and my vehicle is shut off. i have to start it again and pull ahead or back up and try it again. there is times it will doing like 6x before it actually reading that it's in park.

My touch screen, back up camera, and bluetooth does not work and i took it to the dealership where i bought it and they could not fix it. i only had the car for 3 months and it quit working. it started to glitch and i did the trouble shooting and nothing. it stop working while i was driving on sr 28 in tipton indiana.

Takata recall. the 2016 chevy malibu 2016 stopped working while in motion, the engine shut off and steering wheel locked. leaving me hanging and in a dangerous situation. the car completely turned off and i was unable to move the steering wheel. this happened while driving. no prior issues until this. i was completely in motion while it happened on my neighborhood street.

2016 chevy malibu check engine light has been turning on. it states reduce engine speed. this has happened to me when i am on the freeway and i am unable to accelerate. i can only go 30-40mpg. this has happened to me a couple times now. the latest was today. they had already replaced the throttle but it keeps happening.

Vehicle stalled on highway while driving at speed on two different occasions despite servicing after the first incident. both times, pop up alert says "shift to park" and then "engine has reduced power" after which the gas pedal no longer works. after pulling to the side of the road, there was a low battery alert.

When the vehicle is put in park, the engine does not shut down when i attempt to turn off the vehicle. there is a recall on this vehicle, however it states the key may be removed when in park causing the ignition not to shut down. i am unaware there are any vehicles, this make and model, which have keyed ignitions. i believe they are all push button start and stop. my vehicle has 18,000 miles on it and the issue started at 17,000 miles and chevy refused to fix it.

Takata recall when shifting into park it will not go into park and you have to mess with it for a few minutes to get into park. when into a forum and it seem to be a common issue

When car is put in park and turned off a notification of 'shift park' displays while dinging in car. car is stationary during this time. also when driving sometimes my car slows down and a notification of engine power down while dinging sound goes off. car will then eventually power down and come to a stop. car has done this on the highway and while driving around the city. both has happened on several on several occasions. the shift to park incident happens daily and the engine power down situation happens occassionaly last time it happened was 3/22/2019

I bought my 2016 malibu march 8, 2019 at 40,177 miles and the radio does not come on. as well as any safety chimes and the onstar feature does not come on. a week after getting my car i was driving on a city road when my car reduced speed drastically and a message popped up saying engine speed reduced and the engine light came on. after i cut the car off and back on it seems fine and eventually the engine light goes off. this has happened several times since then. i think something could be wrong with the transmission because my car does not pick up speed in first and second gear very well. i know that there were recalls for these vehicles with the same issues but my car doesn't show any recalls.

Twice i have had the accelerated pedal replace, which cause the engine to lose power. i have take this in over 13 time for the engine light to come. i was driving on 495 at the speed of 60 mph in 2nd time almost was hit from behind.

'tamara recall' i was driving to work when my check engine light came on and a warning said 'engine power loss' and my car slowed down to 40mph, i was on the highway, speed limit of 65, i also got and email saying there was a problem with my engine and transmission system, i took it in to be looked at,2 codes piped up saying p1101 which is the throttle body and p2318 which is (app) gas pedal, my check engine light was turned off, it didn't come back on for a couple of days, then it turned back on, by the next morning it went off by itself! i believe this should be recall

Engine light come on for several different reasons appears to sensor errors . state back door unlocked and also reduce power to vehicle as your are driving very unsafe. has had senior replaced due to engine light coming on and stating back door unlocked. also reprogrammed 3c due to error codes.

The radio has no sound and is a common problem since the 2010 model. gm or chevy is doing nothing to help customers fix the issue or train their service teams to fix the problem. i have had my 2016 for almost 9 months with 3 of those months in radio silence, no answer, and no compensation

I own a 2016 chevrolet malibu with 34k miles. while the vehicle is in park i receive a mesage to shift to park while attempting to turn off the vehicle. the shifter needs to be shifted several times before the message goes away and i able to turn off the car. this has became a hazard because the vehicle won't fully turn off. i took my vehicle to my local chevrolet dealer who diagnosed the issue as a defective transmission control. the warranty would not cover this defective and i had to pay out of pocket. please have gm issue a recall.

Takata recall" my car has a ploblems with the shift parking, ones i put in parking and turn off the car the car said shift parking and the key stay open. and i can't lock the car, this is the second time that happen to my car i change in 10/2017 that's imposible that happen again.

I was driving on the interstate at 70 mph when suddenly i received a dash notice of reduced power. i went from 70 to 20 in a matter of minutes and could not accelerate beyond 20 mph. i was able to exit and drive to my dealer ship steve raymond chevrolet in smyrna ga. i was told it was the accelerator pedal senor unit that had failed. now i see there are complaints all over the internet about this problem and gm is doing nothing about it, it is a $400 repair. it is a safety hazard as well. make gm recall this part!! thanks

Shift to park issue. vehicle is clearly in park but message on message board informs me "vehicle is not in park." have to wiggle/mess with shifter in order to get the message to disappear. otherwise vehicle will not turn off. dealership informed me the shifter assembly needed to be replaced... common problem and needs to be fixed by chevy.

I have a 2016 chevy malibu. as i was driving my engine light came on and then a message saying that my engine power has been reduced. i took my car to a near by chevrolet service department. they said that the issue was a failed accelerator pedal alone with some failed sensors. i saw several reviews with a similar problem if not the same. i was very shocked to see that there was not a recall to correct this issue. i brought this car brand new and every since then i have been having nothing but issues. i called gm and they opened a ticket, so hopefully i get some feedback saying that it is something they are recalling to correct the issue.. until then i have to pay out of pocket for a rental. if they do not recall it then i will be paying over $1200 for repairs.

When placing the car in the park position an error message appears after turning off the ignition 'shift to park'. you will have to turn the car back on and make sure that your foot is on the brake just in case it rolls. then shift the car into drive or reverse in to shift it back to the park position. this has to be done several times before the vehicle will correctly identify that it is in the park position.

My malibu does not allow me to turn it off when i put it into park. i get the message "shift to park".

Alternator bearing is going bad. i have not replaced it yet the car is only two years old alternator should last at least seven years. i also had a new engine put in a few months ago because of the piston cracked. so many issues with the new engine in the 2016 chevy malibu model

Water is getting in threw the 3rd brake mounted on the rear windshield. the light is fogged and water is leaking into the main cabin. the vehicle can be in motion or stationary. i feel it is unsafe because water could be sitting somewhere in the main cabin, and could eventually produce mold. also, this is an electrical issue do to water shorting it out.

Car hesitates when pushing accelerator and begins to move forward slowly for a few seconds and then accelerates rapidly. this has happened on numerous occasions for the past few months and because it is only random when i take it to the dealer they can't duplicate it. this occurs when i am stopped at a stop light, pulling out of a parking space, or pulling out of a parking lot into traffic. i've been told it has something to do with a smart transmission because me and my wife have different driving happens. (which doesn't sound reasonable) last time it did this was yesterday and it seems to happening more frequently.

Car refuses to acknowledge that it has been shifted into park, despite having been properly shifted into park. i receive the error message "shift vehicle into park" after turning off the ignition. took several tries to make it go away. vehicle was stationary in a parking lot.

The third light has caused a leaking problem into the trunk. complained to the dealership and nothing was done. it ruined the headliner and the cover that goes oer spare tire.
