Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

When driving the vehicle first the engine light came on and i got a diagnostics it was the mass air flow sensor code coming up. i had the thotle cleaned.... the engine light went off 2 daya later. then i was driving on the hwy and the engine light came on along with the message engine reduce power. i pulled over shut the car off for 10 seconds , start it again and drive it. it does it on a daily now. and im tired of it this is a brand new car. i got it at 28,000 miles it is now at 53,000 miles. chevrolet know that this problem is going on with many of the mailibus they need to fix it. i just spent 1,100 on this car for the repairs

While driving, the car suddenly flashed the "reduced engine speed" message, and the engine warning light came on. the vehicle would not exceed 20 mph after the message came on. the earliest dealership appointment was for 1/20/20 in a city approximately 30 minutes away; i called the chevrolet warranty line and was advised to try calling other dealerships and take my vehicle to be serviced there, despite my repeated explanations of the safety risk due to the engine failure. i received my car back today (1/22/20) and was told the accelerator wiring was replaced under a "special" warranty extension and that they are not providing the warranty rental car coverage.

The accelerator pedal censor is faulty and causes the vehicle to start to power down. this common in many chevrolet models from the impala, to the malibu and cruze.

On jan 6 2020. i was driving a 2016 chevy malibu, when the check engine light and engine reduce power light came on. i pulled over and let the car seat for maybe 10 mins. i restarted the vehicle and begin driving again (it was pulling normal). about 3 miles down the road i was making a left turn and the car stop pulling and the reduce engine power light comes on which leaves me in the middle of a intersection section causing a vehicle coming from my right side to slam into the side of vehicle deploying all of my airbags and making on-star assistance come on. in the result i have neck, back and side injury from the impact. which in the result i'm getting sued because my car stalled in the middle of the turn going left. my car was totaled out and my insurance don't want to pay the full value of what i was leasing it for. which i have to come out the pocket with expenses. after reviewing the "engine reduce power" and doing my research i come to find out it has been numerous complaints. i could have lost my life!

Throttle control system went our while i was driving down the road. extremely dangerous as there is no warning!

While driving down the road vehicle shuts down with a notification saying engine power reduced to where you have to pull off the side of the road and shut the car off three or four times before it will get back to where it's supposed to be. very unsafe when it shuts down going down the highway at 55 and it slows you down to under 20 you have to pull off weaving in and out of traffic very dangerous.

When i am driving my 2016 chevy malibu will reduce speed in the middle of traffic. the dash reads 'engine reduced power'. this has happened a lot times since i purchased my vehicle in september 2016. the dealership has notes of many times i have reported.

I was driving home on the highway going 60mph and the reduced engine power sensor and check engine light came on! the car speed reduced to 20mph and i had to swerve to the far right lane to avoid getting hit by the other vehicles on the highway. this almost cost me my life! i got off the nearest exit taking the street way home. this is the second time i have seen this sensor go off. the first time it came on (april 2019) nothing happen to my car, it was driving perfectly fine and the sensor disappear 2 days later and i haven't seen it since until now. when the sensor disappear, then my car begin shaking when its in idle. i took the car to the nearest chevrolet dealership and they stated that i had a leaking gasket. i couldn't believe it because my car never leaked any oil and i had my oil changes on time. a recall need to be added for this issue as it appears that people encounter this problem regularly!

Nothing but issues after issues after issue! the dealer doesn't even know what is wrong with my car. i had reducing engine issues, took to dealer and seems as if they just cut a wire. i still get the reduced engine power without the message appearing. then an oil leak out of nowhere and now my car will not start, on lunch at work 30 miles from home. everyone with this car just should be given a new one. i feel like were test dummies, not cool! or safe!!

My drive to work is a long commute, it happen to me on the freeway i was on the last lane driving 80 when it literally ' power engine reduce ' comes out on my screen. it literally stopped my car to lower speed and couldn't step on it for the car behind me i had to put my emergency lights on so they can move away from me! and had to reach the safety side, it was the worst experience and it always happens to me every other 3-5 days. then when i'm on traffic jam, the steering wheel reduce drive with care pops up and turns off my car power and radio and even unlocks the car. and does it weird noise and turns back on and starts over. kept happening to me on traffic jams on the freeway.

On oct 22 around 530 in the morning on my way to to work driving on a busy freeway when suddenly the reduce engine light come on reducing my speed from nearly 50mph to 20mph all most causing a near fatal accident i've only had the car for 6 months or so i plan on taking it to the dealership but i feel like i gonna be stuck with a hefty bill for something that should've been a recall that can cause a fatal accident.

When at a stp light, and press excelerator the total electrical system h will go out & car hesitate to move. then, it will kick on. also, this throws my sirus radio out completely & i have to cut the car off completely to get station back on or call for a refresh, but local stations will remain. now i get a waring about the steering ability-drive carefull.

Adaptive cruise control which controls vehicle speed to ensure safe distance stopped working rendering cruise control inoperable. this also caused the forward crash avoidance to not work. vehicle trouble code uo269-00 stored which resulted in replacing long range radar module to correct for $1055.00

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 65 mph, the service engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. additionally, while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, the automatic shut off feature activated. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent, but was more frequent in warmer temperatures and when the air conditioning was in operation. the vehicle was taken to white allen chevrolet (442 n main st, dayton, oh 45405, (937) 303-5147) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to reproduce the failure or retrieve a fault code. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

I was driving on the freeway at a speed of 60 and all of a sudden a message pops up saying reduced speed and then it automatically went down to 20mph then engine shut off in the middle of the freeway luckily i didnt get hit. this could of caused me a horrible accident

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet malibu. while driving 55 mph, the instrument panel displayed "your power slowing down" and the vehicle decelerated to 20 mph. the contact was able to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally; however, the failure recurred three times two miles down the road. the vehicle was taken to duvall chevrolet (located at 464 us-441, clayton, ga 30525, (877) 818-7723) where it was diagnosed that the accelerator pedal sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure occurred on several occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and provided case number: 9-5339020905. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

The vehicle unexpectedly goes into reduced engine power mode while driving. the accelerator pedal was replaced. the issue continued after it was repaired. it creates a dangerous situation because it happens as i'm driving the car.

The car shuts off in traffic. i can be at a stop light and the car just shuts off. all the lights in car flash and vehicle just shuts off. the engine light stays on in vehicle. this has been happening everyday for about a month now.

Warning notice comes on saying engine is power down while driving. while on the interstate going 70 miles an hour, it starts slowing down to 30 miles an hour or less and will not accelerate.

While driving in the highway the car slowed abrubtly, the engine light came on, and the dash gave out engine power reduced. this has happened on more than one occasion while i was driving at a high speed. i pulled over and turned off the car to reset it. the first time the light went off on its own the second and therafter it did not. had the accelerator pedal replaced once and 7 months later it is doing the same exact thing. this is very dangerous for me as a driver and those around me!

While driving on highway, engine rapidly lost power and displayed "engine power has been reduced" alert and check engine light. speed became much less controllable. as pressure on gas pedal was reduced, the car displayed a gradually decrementing "speed limited to x" message. however, upon increased pressure on gas pedal, the car would accelerate beyond the stated speed limiting - though with nearly total loss of power. inconsistent engine performance nearly led to an accident as the car was not predictable. was given a code p2138, drive by wire. took to dealer, dealer said this is a common problem. they are to replace gas pedal. request recall due to dangerous condition and repeated complaints regarding issue.

The car constantly gets message of engine power reduced while driving with no previous issues or warnings. the check engine light comes on then my driving speed decreases while driving. this is very dangerous! this happens on city streets and on the highway. i have to pull over to shut the car off and wait a few minutes then restart the car. the car then starts normal without the check engine light or error codes.

I was on the highway and my 'reduce engine power' came on followed by an engine light. i was going 75 and greatly slowed down to 50 mph and almost got in a serious car crash. there is a lot of the same issue with this model and it needs to be recalled!!

Reduced engine power while traveling at 65 mph on the freeway. speed dropped to 40 mph. i was just able to put on my hazards and pull over with several cars behind me slamming on their brakes.

While in traffic engine light & engine power reduced came on a vehicle wouldn't accelerate past low speed, which almost caused accident. got engine read and it was due to accelerator pedal which is very common in this car

I bought my 2016 malibu march 8, 2019 at 40,177 miles and the radio does not come on. as well as any safety chimes and the onstar feature does not come on. a week after getting my car i was driving on a city road when my car reduced speed drastically and a message popped up saying engine speed reduced and the engine light came on. after i cut the car off and back on it seems fine and eventually the engine light goes off. this has happened several times since then. i think something could be wrong with the transmission because my car does not pick up speed in first and second gear very well. i know that there were recalls for these vehicles with the same issues but my car doesn't show any recalls.

Accelerator pedal sensor keeps malfunctioning while driving

I was driving on the interstate when my car began to slow down and gave the message that engine was loosing power. when i mashed the accelerator, the car would not pick up speed. i could have been hit. i had to slowly make my way to an exit ramp and stop the car. i turned the car off and restarted after a while and i was able to get home. this happened several two more times before i was able to get to the dealership. i was told the accelerator pedal had to be replaced. this should be a recall instead of me having to pay out of pocket. i am disappointed because i thought chevrolet was a little more reliable than this. chevrolet really need to investigate this and recall this before someone is killed.

Driving along and my 2016 with 39,000 miles loses acceleration power and receive warning 'engine power is reduced'. i limp it to the chevy dealership and they get it in and i get a call later with them telling me they have seen this in two other cars and they are waiting on the accelerator throttle pedal sensor that needs replaced. they reset and cleaned the sensor and sent me on my way. it's happened three other times since then and i limp it back to shop every time to get reset. i should not be having this issue with it barely out of warranty. it says a lot of one shop to have three malibu's waiting for this part to become available. i love the malibu's but with the issues with this car i've had it's hard to keep my faith in chevrolet. they know this model is having issues yet has not recalled my vehicle yet and i'm out of pocket. i'm a single mom that needs a reliable car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet malibu. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated and would not exceed 20 mph. also, the fuel sensor warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to serra chevrolet (28111 telegraph rd, southfield, mi 48034, (248) 354-6001) where the contact was informed that they were aware of the failure and the accelerator pedal position sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 34,874.

Engine reduced light

My car stabilitrak comes on every other 20 mins when driving. if i try to accelerate my cars check engine light will come on and then say engine power reduced almost stopping my vehicle on the interstate i can only drive it in town under 40 mph. diagnostic showed nothing and of course no recalls but every recall chevy has with the malibu fits my model. very disappointing. it has become very dangerous. today i was headed to pick up my daughter from daycare and my brake pedal became very stiff and i could not stop causing me to roll through an intersection thankfully it was a green light and let the car roll until it stopped. i was terrified. i have not had the car long and it is a headache.

I was driving down the highway and a message piped up on my dash saying my car was losing power. i tried to press the gas, my my speed decreased. i pull over to the side and shut my car off for a while, crunk it back up and it drove normal. 5 minutes later and it did the same thing.

I have a 2016 chevy malibu. as i was driving my engine light came on and then a message saying that my engine power has been reduced. i took my car to a near by chevrolet service department. they said that the issue was a failed accelerator pedal alone with some failed sensors. i saw several reviews with a similar problem if not the same. i was very shocked to see that there was not a recall to correct this issue. i brought this car brand new and every since then i have been having nothing but issues. i called gm and they opened a ticket, so hopefully i get some feedback saying that it is something they are recalling to correct the issue.. until then i have to pay out of pocket for a rental. if they do not recall it then i will be paying over $1200 for repairs.

I was driving 35mph, and suddenly the car lost power, and i was going 10 mph. a message came on saying reduced power. i had the car towed to the dealership that i purchased the car, red lion chevy. they found nothing wrong with the car, and told me i better get the car off the lot. i was scared to drive the car as if i was on a highway, i could have been run over by a truck. i already had a cracked piston repaired and the car needed a new engine. on star sent me an email stating that i have an engine and transmission problem and to get the car serviced.the sales manager rivera just wanted to sell me a new car, and they wouldn't do any further testing on my vehicle.

On a highway in motion when the car started to slow down and would not accelerate over 40 mph. the motor started to make a loud noise. there was no power when pushing on the peddle. this has happen to me on 3 different occasions. when this occurs the check engine light appears and stays on for two days before going back off. the car goes back to normal after being parked and sits for about 3 hours.

I'll be driving approximate 40 miles and car system will come up stating " engine is going to reduce speed" or something like that ? it's been going for at least two weeks or more now .

Driving my vehicle, out of no where reduced engine power mode came across my dashboard information center. the car immediately reduced its speed and allowed me to drive about 20mph (i was so thankful i was not on the highway and/or had passengers in the vehicle). it has been at the dealership now, with the explanation that the accelerator circuit board needs to be replaced; however it is on back order and they are not certain when the part will become available. so i am not even sure how to plan moving forward on a vehicle that has a car-note but i cannot repair because the part is not available. from reading the complaints this part is on a national backorder.

I was driving on the highway, going 74, all the lights on the dashboard went on (regular lights, warning lights, everything) it lasted about 5-10 seconds and then went back to normal. drove another two miles regaining speed to 74 and headlights wentout, all lights in the inside (dashboard, radio, climate control), and i had no power and quickly dropped speed. the car completely shut down while i was driving on the highway, in 5:00 rush hour traffic. i was able to pull over to the side of the road and i turned the key off. i waited a couple minutes and the car did startup and i was able to get off the highway. i took the back way home so i wouldn't be on the highway. i called the car dealership and brought it in the next day. they said they have not heard of this and have not been able to recreate the issue and diagnostics didn't show anything. i have seen a few other post on the internet with this happening on other malibu cars. the dealership is allowing us to "exchange" (for a fee) to get a different car since we just purchased this one a month ago. hope it doesn't happen again to somebody else with this car.

Driving down major highway, cel came on, vehicle went into reduced engine power mode. scanned cel and found code for app sensor failure. brought to chevy dealer near where car broke down and they said they would charge me to diagnose it and then charge for parts and labor. the only issue being is that the gas pedal and sensor are on a national backorder. which means that since this is not a warranty issue with the thousand of gm vehicles affected by this issue i would have to pay for the repairs and the cost of the rental car through the dealer. there is no eta on when the part will be in (if ever) since gm has not been producing these parts for aftermarket repairs. this issue started on 12/21/18 and the dealer said it may take up to two weeks or longer to get the part, the part has still not been issued to the dealer which has several cars with this issue. i have owned several gm vehicles, my grandfather worked for gm, and i service many heavy duty gm engines through my job, but this will be the last gm vehicle i believe i will be purchasing. the quality of gm is gone immensely down and they are not worth the headache of owning one anymore.

My chevrolet 2016 malibu, while driving on the highway, out of no where my car decreased in speed and my engine light came on. the screen said 'engine power reduced'. i was unable to drive over 30 mph. i pulled over, turned the vehicle on and off where i still was unable to accelerate. i immediately took it to the local chevrolet dealership where they told me it was a 'gas pedal sensor that went out' and that this part is going out in all malibu's.

When i was resuming adaptive cruise control the vehicle took off after a semi tractor trailer that was in front of me; i had to brake hard to avoid from hitting the semi truck. i was traveling about 55 mph at the time this incident happened & it has happened two more times after that initial incident. then it stopped working and i had to take it in to the dealership. they said there was no recall on the vehicle & did a recalibration on the front camera & long range radar modules.

The listed 2016 chevy malibu has been having 'reduce engine' issue for the past 3 months no explanation for why it happens. it occures randomly, on highways, local roads, high and low speed. the check engine light comes on, but turn off after a couple of minutes, though the issue persist.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet malibu. while driving various speeds the ''engine power reduce'' message was displayed and the speed suddenly decelerated to 20 mph. after turning off and restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally; however the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to bredenann chevrolet (1401 west dempster st, parkridge, il) where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be cleaned and the accelerator pedal was faulty and needed to be replaced. the contact was informed that the accelerator pedal was on backorder and there was no estimated of when the part would be available. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 44,000.

Around 50,000 miles sensor on throttle pedal went out and caused my car to stop accelerating with my kid in the car in the middle of the road driving. next at 74,000 my 2016 chevy malibu lt 1.5l turbo has a cracked piston. i believe recall 17019 stochastic pre egnition should be linked to my vin. first service stabilitrak comes on with a glowing icon showing a car with wavy lines underneath it. then code reading p0301 (cylinder 1 misfire) went through the checklist, spark plugs, coils, fuel injectors all fine. checked the compression of cylinder one and it's gone. cylinder one has no compression it doesn't work. i saw this is happening to many people with the 1.5l turbo gm tried perfecting and still doesn't know how to fix besides replacing the piston or motor. both times i was driving my car. once i noticed the stabilitrak and check engine light i went home and left the car in the garage in hopes there wasn't damage. i researched and found out gm knew this whole time and no one told me. their trying to say my car isn't on that recall but i strongly believe that my car is exactly that 17019 stochastic pre egnition recall.

Hi, i leased a 2016 chevy malibu. while on the freeway, my engine power suddenly lowered and a notification popped up saying the same. the rpm increased to 5+ since i was trying to take exit and the car was losing control. i eventually got to gm service and they told me that the throttle sensor got bad which would cost $150+ to replace. however i have been driving it since then and once a month the same notification pops up and lowers my engine power until i turn it off and back on. each time i do this, i have to suddenly stop my car on the shoulder. the sensor is not bad, the car just senses that the sensor is bad and reduces power. this seems like a scam where gm wants to make more money. moreover, i've read hundreds of the same complaints where people describe how they almost lost control in the middle of the freeway because of the same issue. this is a concerning safety issue and gm should fix this as a recall. i want gm to accept that they installed a defective part and will fix it. thanks. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Car was leaking fluid and when driving car had no acceleration.

I could be driving down the road and it'll say engine power reduced. if i press the gas, it'll slow down. when i put my car in park, and turn it off it'll say shift to park.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 50 mph, the "engine power reduced" message appeared and the vehicle lost acceleration. the contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder. the contact waited and then drove home. the vehicle was taken to steve chevrolet in oakdale, california where it was awaiting diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

Car drives fine for a while the message pops up "engine power reduced" car will not go over 25mph and is very dangerous
