Service airbags light came on while pulling out of my driveway. never been involved in an accident. alarm for airbags goes off every 30 seconds and it will not go off. the airbag alert light is on and the passenger airbag light flashes on and off with or without someone in the passenger seat.
Takata recall i have a 2013 chevy malibu eco with roughly 89k miles. my 'service airbag' light came on randomly as i was pulling into my driveway on july 27, 2019. i have not had an accident in my car, and i this is the first time i've ever seen this light. i remember a few years back, i received a notice in the mail from the dealership about a recall on airbags (something related to the deployment) and i went and got it serviced. well it's 2-3 yrs later and my airbag light is on. i'm concerned if this is related to the takata recall as well. i can't understand why my 'service airbag' light would pop on so randomly.
My battery completely died and i needed a jump. the jump ended up not working so i purchased a new battery. now the airbag light is on and will not go off. after researching this problem i see that this is a known issue and still no recall on this problem. i have a 2013 chevrolet malibu eco. the forums are saying it's a problem with the sdm component. codes b101d-00(electronic control unit hardware) and u0184-00(lost communication with radio).
When my 2013 chevy malibu is in motion and someone is in the passenger seat (many but not all times) all of the electronics, including the electronic speedometer, and all dashboard gauges, in the car stop working and notifications about the airbag system and braking system appear. the mechanical aspects of the car still seem to work fine, but the notifications about the airbags and braking make me concerned that it is not safe. this has been happening for a year. i have tried taking my vehicle to the dealership multiple times and have been told they either cannot replicate it or they will "fix" something that doesn't end up solving the problem. given that this problem started randomly and not with any intervention on my part of the part of any mechanic, i am contacting nhtsa because i am concerned that this problem is related to the airbag sensor in the passenger seat and that this might be happening with other people and could represent real danger if this really is affecting the airbag and braking systems (even when the passenger seat is not in use).
On 2016 i had a collision claim number 3005632019 -1-7. i didn't have deductibles and therefore the vehicle was not fixed immediately but the insurance had paid part of their portion. on april 8th i was involved on accident and had injuries which i was discharged from treatment not long. therefore the vehicle still had the bent. on march 12th 2019 the vehicle was hit again on the rear along the tire. now i had the vehicle fixed both damages at maaco at tacoma. this was done through the insurance. when i took the vehicle at maaco there was no airbag light. they were replacing the passenger door and fixing the bent for both collision. when i picked up the vehicle i noticed the air bag light and i informed the maaco representative. he told me it will go away by its own. it didn't go away and we agreed with them to take it back. when i followed up with them they said that they can't fix the problem but had contacted the insurance. days passed without getting an updated. lastly i am told to drive the car back with me and that i have to prove to the insurance that the light is caused by the old accident. i feel it is not safe for me to drive it with the light on as it is not safe for anyone. i don't have transportation and i am paying the insurance and the loan.
Passenger seat sensor causes electrical components inside vehicle to be disabled. heat and air conditioning do not function and temporary loss of power occurs. this occurs while vehicle is in motion and while stationary.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and "service air bag soon" appeared on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was not available.
Driver hit a stationary object head on at approximately 50mph and head went through the windshield.
After the battery went dead for the first time on the car, it was jumped and taken to dealer to replace. the next day the service airbag light is on and taken back to dealership. they now want to charge over 1000 to fix something that was defect due to battery was jumped and shorted module. now my car does not have working airbags and this problem is all over the web in different groups as a reoccurring problem.
I swerved and hit braks hard to miss deer went on to shoulder of road i was the only person in my car and both curtain airbags depolyed - my car is being deemed totaled because of the exstensive airbag damage to inside.
The airbag lite came on and says service airbags, and dings and know it is on all the time and will not go out, i know there have been a lot of recalls on airbags and was wondering if this could also be coming as a recall
Had an accident on 5/24/2018 it was a head on collision where the at fault driver broke the light and ran in yo my car the air bag did not deploy i sustained a fractured ankle and a neck injury due to the accident

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the dealer (castle chevrolet, 400 e roosevelt rd. villa park, il 60181, 630-279-5200) advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for inspection and diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified and had not issued a recall for the air bags. the failure mileage was not available.
I was turning from a private drive and collided with another vehicle. i was in a 2013 chevrolet malibu ls travelling at approximately 15mph, the other driver in a 2010 honda accord travelling at approximately 45-55mph. the collision was between my front left and his front right, no passengers. no air bags deployed from either vehicle, and as mine did not deploy, i received a concussion when the back of my head broke the driver's side window. i don't know if this is part of takata, as i cannot find the manufacturer of my car's airbags. chevrolet provided no information as to the manufacturer or why at least the curtain airbag would not have deployed to prevent concussion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving 28 mph, the "service air bag" warning indicator illuminated without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 79,648.
There was a safety recall for this model but it did not include my car's vin for some reason. i have had dealership repair the problem twice, once while still under factory warranty and then recently due to airbag harness wiring shearing off. the dealership repaired the wiring and charged me the deductible under extended warranty but advised the issue could happen again due to faulty design engineering. the issue happens apparently while raising and lowering the driver seat. the wiring harness can easily get caught in the gear mechanism.
This will be second time ocurring within two months..while driving panel lights up radio turns on for a few minutes then airbag light remains on when everythign else turned off.. took to dealership to repair and they stated it was the airbag module..replaced it and a month later same thing happened... back at dealership today
My hub assembly broke causing an electrical issue and caused the air bag module to go bad. air bag light remains on
Air bag indicator light is on. service airbag message appears when starting vehicle. the bumper to bumper warranty has expired but not the powertrain. is this covered by warranty and is it safe to drive vehicle?
While driving, service air bags ,service anti teft system, warnings come on, a/c,radio shut off aswell as gas ,speed odometer, all gauges shut down.

While driving at night went to roll up power windows which in turn caused my headlights to flicker and all dashboard instruments including radio to temporarily stop working. subsequently gets worse which each occurrence. last occurrence automatic headlights came on and subsequently caused loss of power steering and airbag light illuminated. gratefully was able to retain control of car. since first occurrence it has happened at least six times and seems to happen at night or while headlights are on.

I lost control of my car and stuck a tree head on the frame of the car was bent and my radiator was pushed back into the engine. my air bags never deployed and this concerns me after hearing about all the recalls that gm had. *tr
I was riding in the car with my wife and cousin heading to her brothers house. we had just drove from out of town after visiting some family members and was taking my cousin back home. while driving i notice the car electrical system acting up it would say i needed to put air in the tire or the back tire was not functioning correctly. it also would say i needed to put my seat belt on when it was on. but this was not my biggest concern my wife while driving ran off the road a struck a tree head on. had she had been driving faster then what she was going i fell as if she would have been severely injured. the airbags never came out and this was a concern because who knows how many vehicles are affected by this. i thank god that her injuries were not that serve as well as my cousin and i, although pain will heal the pain of losing a love one will never heal. so i ask that you look into because this is a safety concern, i know if had my wife been told that her airbags may or may not deploy she would have never brought the car....... *tr
Front passenger seat air bag sensor too sensitive?? the front passenger air bag light comes on as well as front passenger seat belt reminder with minimal weight and/or pressure exerted on seat. i noted a 12oz soda beverage was placed on the front passenger seat and in approximately less than 10 seconds the vehicle light illuminated that the air bag was on (it illuminated off until this point) and the reminder tone came on to remind to fasten the front passenger seat belt. *tr

Waiting at a corner for a clear spot to cross five lane road. was watching a truck with a snow plow wanting to turn onto same road that i needed to cross. looked both ways and then back at the truck. the truck did not move so i proceeded and i only made it just beyond the turn lane and got hit by another car. i tried as fast as i could to stay in the turn lane but still got hit. other driver did not try to avoid us. we were hit hard in the right front of our car. the speed limit on the road i wanted to cross is 55 mph so we were hit pretty hard. now this is where we get mad. our airbags did not deploy. my wife and i were shaken very bad. we each have a doctors appointments as we are very sore and stiff. *tr
First noticed a crease in rear seat side airbags caused by rear door panel resting on it rather than having clearance. after the door had been opened/closed through use over a period of only 6 months, it is beginning to rub a possible hole in the material containing the airbag. dealership service manager had never seen before and subsequent check of some new malibus still on the lot revealed that almost all had some sort of indication of the same problem. don't know what will happen if material on airbag is breached with a hole. *tr
2013 chevy malibu 1ls manufactured 11/20/12, currently less than 7,000 mi. 1) chrome & radio glass - when sun shines on console it blinds driver & driver must cover area with a scarf or jacket; console is beautiful to look at, but not practical from a safety viewpoint since the driver is blinded & cannot see until the area is covered from the sun. 2) when air conditioning was turned on, a blast of very hot air came out; it took a couple of times of turning the settings off & on (at least 60 seconds or longer) before the hot air stopped & the air conditioning came on. the hot air could not be immediately turned off. happened only once. 3) passenger side front fender/bumper loose - makes noise, can pop it back in, but on hot days, it pops out, vibrates and makes loud noise until popped back in. 4) rear windows - when down 1/2, 3/4 or fully, vibrates, makes very loud noise that sounds like tires are coming apart, causing driver to immediately pull over to check tires, the distraction & being on side of road could be a safety issue. 5) no spare tire - unable to locate a tire & rim (or donut tire) for purchase to insert in trunk tire area. no can of goop, also goop only lasts for 6 months & must be discarded & new can purchased. not good when stranded in inclement snowy weather or out in the hot desert & must wait for tow truck. i like my chevy malibu very much, it has been able to handle rough gravel/dirt roads in inclement weather, snow, & highway travel. i plan to take it to the dealer shortly for an oil change & to take care of these issues. what i don't like is that i am unable to turn the driver airbag off (i sit less than 12 inches from the wheel & am concerned that if it were to deploy i would be killed) & that the vehicle is fairly low to the ground, making speed bumps & getting out of businesses where there is a dip onto streets difficult. *tr
