Recently reported EXTERIOR LIGHTING problems on 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

When driving my vehical all of a sudden the lower stearing went out and all these warning lights come on. it's super hard to steer i have 3 kids that ride in this car everyday and it's very dangerous. also my headlight drivers side has gone out 4 times in the past 6 months and its very expensive to fix!

Esc turns off and on by itself while driving. service power steering light comes on and the wheel is hard to turn i have to kill the car and restart it to get it to start working again. when i press my breaks the car jerks and the esc acvtive light comes on. the passenger side headlight goes in and out by itself i've replaced the bulb but it seems to be a wiring issue.

My passenger side headlight low beam continues to go out. i get it replaced and it will go out again in as short of time as 6 months. driver side does not have the same issue. the i internet is full of complaints about this same issue.

My 09 chevy malibu lt brake lights will illuminate without the brake pedal being pressed.therefore signalling to other drivers that i am slowing, when in fact i am not. also when the brake pedal is deliberately pressed to indicate the vehicle is slowing, the lights go out entirely, signalling to other drivers that i am not slowing down when in fact i am! this is a huge safety issue! i parked my vehicle today january 1, 2020 to test the functionality of my brake lights and the brake lights illuminated while i was outside of the vehicle, indicating i was pressing the brake pedal. once the pedal was compressed, the rear lights went out entirely indicating the brake pedal was not compressed. also the cruise control of the vehicle has never worked properly since purchasing the vehicle. it will not initiate or maintain set speed causing fluctuations in travel speed. so i refuse to use the feature as this too is a real safety concern.

The passenger side low beam headlight keeps failing. the wiring harness keeps frying over and over. chevy needs to fix this issue!

Right front low beam headlight worked intermittently, then not at all. the wire harness was removed and replaced. pictures attached show melted low beam bulb connector on the oem harness.

My cars passenger side low beam head light connector keeps frying out. ive changed the bulb numerous times and the light never stay on longer than 2 weeks at a time. i was looking into the issue and noticed that the whole connector has melted and the wiring too.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving various speeds, the rear brake lights seized intermittently. corning chevrolet buick (2087 solano st, corning, ca 96021, (530) 838-4371) was contacted and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the contact replaced the bulbs multiple times, but the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

Passenger low beam headlights keep going out on 2009 chevy malibu. i have replaced the bulbs, and the pigtail harness 3 times a year for the last 4 years.

The wire harness for the passenger front headlight keeps burning out the lightbulb now the harness has burned out

Everyone that i know that has a chevrolet malibu is having problems with their headlights. i am getting tickets and replacing bulbs every 2/3 weeks. replacing them constantly is getting expensive and it's getting expensive because i keep getting tickets.

Steering wheel locks up in cold weather even after being warmed up for more than 5 minutes. happened twice, second time i did a normal turn to the right it locked up and had to pull over right away. always unlocks when restarting the car. right headlight also doesn't properly work. changed the light bulb two weeks ago and turned off just today. checked the bulb and still works. i've researched the problems online and there's been recalls and complaints about both of my problems.

I purchased the car march 14, 2019 from a family member. the front passenger low beam headlight was not working. the prior owner stated they had taken the car in to have the light repaired at least 6 times in since 2009. april 2, 2019 i took the car to clint newell chevrolet to have the low beam headlight fixed. the problem was the wire that plugs into the light was melted. the repair cost was $172.33. on april 4, 2019 the rear passenger turn signal quit working. i replaced the bulb. april 9, 2019 the passenger tail light quit working. april 11, 2019 i replaced the bulb. as soon as that was done the front passenger low beam headlight quit working again. i checked the low beam fuse and it was fine. i cannot afford 172.00 again 9 days later for this repair. i have also found online in chevy forums, this seems to be a problem for many people that own chevrolet malibus.

In the last 5-6 months my passenger side headlight has been going out, i have replaced the light bulb like 4-5 times, the harness adapter to the headlight lightbulb connector and lastly the entire headlight wire harness from the factory and it is still going out after a day or two.

Takata recall, as i was dropping my daughter off at the bus stop i tried to pull back up to my house and the power steering came on and the wheel was hard to turn while my vehicle was in motion and there was alot of cars coming my way as i was trying to turn. i told my husband about it he went to check that it had power steering fluid in it and it was not low at all then he got in it to drive and it worked just fine. that was a scary experience for me. another incident when i went to go get my car inspected the third brake light would not come on but when i went to my mother in laws it worked just fine and when i left to go home lastnight it was coming on when i wasn't even pushing the brakes so me and my husband figured it was a shortage in it or the wires need replaced. someone needs to do something about this before there be an accident. i was doing some research about my vehicle and i seen that it had serveral recalls. the manufacturer recall #: n130036 the nhtsa recall #: 14v252

Brake lights stay on while driving and brake light goes off when stepping on the brake pedal. the lights are intermittently working and i've taken the car to get the problem taken care of, but it returns.

I have owned my 2009 chevy malibu lt since 2010. the passenger side dim headlamp is out for the 3rd time! i have been told that several model years including 2009 that the front end must be removed to fix the headlight. i have paid out of pocket twice, for $170+ & $142+ when i have never had to replace a head light on a car, much less remove the whole front end , then it was fixed and burned out a month later each time. i need to have it fixed, but i know my headlight is good, there is just a design failure in keeping the headlight on.

While driving my esc - enhances stability control light, abs and traction control lights came on. when i stopped at a light and then tried to drive forward i was able to move my vehicle until the brakes kicked in and started slowing me down. after driving about 5mikes my husband who was driving behind me signaled to pull over. my brake lights were on and when i engaged the brake pedal to come to a stop the brake lights went off. after i released the brakes, and got out of the car with it still running my brake lights came back on.

Low beam passenger side headlight keeps going out, even after replacing multiple times

Power steering keeps going out makes it hard to drive straight and make tight turns and my low beams on my headlights keeps going out too. but there is no recall on my car at and it is really dangerous to drive with my family in it.

Passenger side low beam keep going out. replaced bulb multiple times, still doesnt work. replaced wiring harness within first week of purchasing vehicle and having repeated problems.

My headlights go out all time n it's very scary when you drive n at night it happens

While driving, sometimes my brake lights come on when i am not depressing the brake pedal, sometimes, when i press the brake pedal the break lights do not come on, the traction control light comes on and stays of then later it goes off.

Headlight conntor keep buring out low beam on passager side second time replacing it in two years

Since i have had this car in 2010, i have replaced headlights at least 3 times a year, which has cost me at least $200.00 each visit, i have searched online and it seems to be a very common issue. i have dropped it off for the second time in 3 months to get

Passenger side headlight intermittently goes out. it is not determined by if it's parked or i'm driving down the road.

Passenger side headlight issue . headlight lowbeam specifically on passenger side keep going out . after research and testing to find out it's not the actual bulb that's the issue. it's that headlight wiring on several different malibu's . changed bulb 3 times in 6 month window .

The driver's side low beam lights keep going out and not i think it is affecting my driver's side rear lights. i already had it fixed and paid a traffic ticket totaling $700.00 on it. the first time i thought it was just the bulb. i found out it was electrical problem and it turned out to be the pigtail. i replaced it and now after 4 months they are out again. i have seen many complaints similar to mine in multiple blogs.

I have replaced the driver low bean headlight 3 times in 2018 all within 1-2 months of each other. the last time being in oct 2018 and now its out again.

Passenger headlight has blown twice in less then a year. driver side air bag warning light keeps coming on. drivers side seat belt no longer retracts.

The second day i had the vehicle power steering went out. i was driving in houston texas in full traffic and my motor had engine power loss. they fixed my power steering. now my car goes into engine power loss when driving. esc, traction control and engine power loss come on the display. we've changed the spark plugs and throttle body but still nothing. the car shakes at redlights and stop signs. the ac smells like fumes. when the car is stationary with the ac on the car goes into engine power loss. left front headlight goes out and comes back on.

Passenger side low beam keeps going out. i have replaced the bulb numerous times over the past few months

Low beam passenger headlight out malfunction somewhere along the lines.. replaced parts and still currently not working! works for less than a week then stops again. looked online and it shows many many people have this problem with no solution!

Passenger side low beam head light went out for 3rd time within about 8 months.

My brake lights and fifth light in window come on without braking and go off when brake is pressed

I have a 2009 chevy malibu and the passenger low beam light keeps going out every 3-4 months. i have changed the bulbs 5 times now and recently changed the harness and still went out 3 months later. it is starting to cost me a lot of money and keeps happening.

Takata recal, my cars lock button stopped working and my key pads as well as my headlights go out and come back on on their own. my car was in my driveway and all this happened a few weeks of eachother. went to change my bulb and old bulb came back on. as well as when all my electrical went bad it was sitting in my driveway all night and battery quit working.

I have had the car serviced 3 times for the headlights going out on me. i was driving home from work at 930pm and noticed my lights were not on. it was pitch black because i have to go through the park to get home. i almost hit the curb because i could not see. i panicked but i tried the brights and they worked so i used them to get home. the greenwood chevrolet replaced the head light bulbs 3 times but it has to be electrical being that it went out 3 times in 2 months i haven't even had the car a year! on my way home from the grocery store on 3/6/2018 i almost wrecked because the power steering went out on the vehicle. i attempted to turn and almost ran into the back of the vehicle in front of me. the suspension doesn't work either. as of today i cannot drive at night because i do not have any head lights (that's been for 3 months) i cannot drive the car now because i do not have power steering to drive the car. i'm making payments on a death trap because i almost wrecked twice thank goodness god was with me.

Passenger side headlight wire harness keeps going bad. lightbulb is good. 3rd one within a year and a half.

Power steering becomes stiff after idling for a few moments. shut the engine off and restart and problem goes away. brake lights work intermittently. power door locks work intermittently when lock button is pushed several times. unlocking doesn't work at all unless car is put in reverse then back into park.

The gas tank leaks . and i have met another chevy malibu owners with the same problem . and also the headlight on the passenger side keeps going out , and yes i have met plenty of other chevy owners who have the same problem .

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that he had to replace the driver side head lamp several times because it failed to operate without warning. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The low beam lights are constantly going out. sometimes they will come back on by themselves or if we move things around a bit, but most of the time they stay off. most of the time it is one or the other, but as of today both of my low beam lights are out. this is a huge safety issue

While driving with my lights on the left headlight goes on and off. i've placed another bulb in and it's still doing the same. it only happen on dime the brights works fine.

Serious safety issue for 2009 chevrolet malibu. headlights low beam both right and left keep going out soon after replacement of the pigtail connector that connects the headlamps to the electrical system. burns out within one or two weeks of being replaced. the local repair shop and chevrolet dealership service departments say it cannot be repaired to stop the pigtail from burning out. we called chevrolet and they will not help. in researching this issue in chevrolet malibu 2009 chatrooms this is a very common safety problem. if the lights burn out at night we are in trouble. to replace the pigtail connector the front bumper has to be removed, costing over $200 per incident. this is a serious safety issue that cannot be resolved at chevrolet service departments. how is it possible to not permanently be able to repair this serious safety issue?

The brake lights do not always come on when the brake pedal is pressed. other times the brake lights, including the center brake light is on without the pedal being pressed. note this occurs both when stationary and moving.

Passenger low beam keeps going out. i've replaced the bulb 3 times in one year, and even changed the housing. this seems to be an issue with several model years of the malibu.

The brake lights on my malibu are not working. the brake lights illuminate without the brake pedal applied and turn off when the pedal is applied. also, my electronic stability control and cruise control do not work. i have had this fixed four times already, two which i paid for out of pocket, and then two from a subsequent recall. i brought my car in today to get it repaired for this problem the fifth time. is there something systemically wrong beyond what the recall addresses?

1) awhile back, after starting and warming engine and taking off, while making a left turn on city street, car turn off completely..wheel froze after turn. i turned key off and restarted car and it would work ok. it happened 3 0r 4 times. no warning light came on. i took it to dealership and they could not find the problem. 2) while on freeway, tire monitor warning light came on twice, i bought tires but did not have monitors checked. a few days later engine light came on. now, i needed smog done, had to replace catalic converter (1400.00) and mechanic has a problem with car communications system. its costing me too much. there is recall on something having to do with brakes.. could this communications problem be related? i did have brake pads replaced last year. the recall has to with bcm and bas (my dashboard lights occassionally fluctuate and take a while for lights to come on bright with dashboard button all way to bright.). remote control stopped working 6 months after i bought car in 2010...doors have to be locked manually..except for passenger side door, power windows do not work. my concern right now is having it smogged and tire monitors.

Passenger headlight loses power. light bulb changes 3 times and they all are not burned out. changed wiring. light will now stay lit. low beam only. this has been going on for a year.
