BRAKE LIGHTS 10 HEADLIGHTS 4 TURN SIGNAL 2

Recently reported EXTERIOR LIGHTING problems on 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

We have had to replace the dim lights on the passenger side last november and now my left side dim light has gone out. is this common in these cars? someone said that there might be a recall for this. how do i find out.

There is a recall on my 3rd break light.

The vehicle continuously locks itself and the power lock buttons do not work to open the doors, you have to physically turn the car on and put it in gear then back in park to get the locks to disengage. there are times that the brake/head lights do not work or they turn on by themselves when the car is not running. earlier today 04-09-17 the vehicle would not start at first, after a few tries the engine turned over but while driving it in town it completely died. the vehicle restarted but could have caused an accident.

Loud winding noise while driving. service traction/esc off light illuminates while car is on. accelerates very slowly and brake lights come on randomly

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that when the brake pedal was applied, the brake lights failed to function. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and was made aware of the failure. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not part of a recall and that the contact had to pay for the repair. the approximate failure mileage was 152,000.

High mounted stop lamp, works intermittently, stopped or in motion,(i have read online its a connection at the led high mounted stop lamp).left and right fender stop lamps work correctly. not part of recall 13036

The power door locks engage and disengage at random. when using the unlock button on the key fob or using the button inside the car, the passenger and rear door looks will partially disengage making it hard/impossible to open the door with out manually pulling the lock tab on the door. the electric stability control and traction control will random engage/disengage or display a service message on the cluster screen. the third break light illuminates at random, not always the break is applied. the radio will display random characters while on or go completely blank.

The high mount brake light does not always illuminate when the brake pedal is engaged. on a 1 hour commute, the brake light can start working, stop working, and then start working again. the vehicle appears to have the same problem described in nhtsa campaign 14v-252 but as not included in gm recall 13036 even though the recall included other 2009 chevy malibus. i tried calling the number for gm listed in the nhtsa campaign but was told that my vehicle was not part of the recall and there was nothing they could do until i took it to a dealership to have a diagnostic performed.

Brake lights, radio, trunk opener on drivers door , left turn signal, doors randomly lock , 3rd brake light dim, sometimes driver door won't open from inside or outside with door unlocked , sometimes drivers door won't shut, 105k miles on this car. this is the most expensive vehicle i've owned and it's the worst vehicle i've ever owned. the drivers door is stuck shut currently.

My rear passenger door lock disengaged from the automatic locks and can only be opened from the inside. (spring 2016) my traction control is periodically saying that it has malfunctioned but does not always. when the light comes on, i feel a pulse as i'm braking and sometimes if it comes on while i'm driving i'll feel a slight jolt through the accelerator pedal. i also hear a click noise like the pedal may disengage. (late summer 2016) i don't know if it's related but since most things seem electrical, my radio sometimes will not turn off and seems to do what it wants during times when other things are seemingly malfunctioning (i.e. in conjunction with the traction control issue). on several occasions, i have taken the key out of the ignition, opened the door but my radio doesn't turn off. (late summer 2016) on several occasions, i have taken the key out of the ignition, but the car seems to still be running, like idling. i've thought it was the cooling system, but i've never had this happen in the last 22 years i've been driving nor heard it from anyone else i ask. (late summer 2016) i have also been driving, on several occasions, with cruise control engaged and then realize that i'm slowing down only to find the cruise is no longer engaged. the first few times i thought it was me. now, i rarely use it because it's not consistently reliable. (late summer 2016) while my fuse and bulbs are fine, both of my taillights are not working. (late november, 2016 when someone brought it to my attention). *tr

Contacted local dealership for recall. they informed me it was lready done, but problem still persists. i purchased vehicle from my mother and she said she never had the work done.. power steering keeps going in and out and is a major safety issue

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed other vehicles flashing their headlights and blowing their horns. the contact realized that the driver side low beam headlight was out. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and repaired. two weeks after the repair, the failure recurred. the vehicle was repaired again, but the failure recurred three weeks later. an independent mechanic stated that the wiring to the driver side low beam head lamp was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 179,500.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact was alerted by another motorist that the brake light was constantly illuminated, as if she were applying the brakes. the brake light dimmed when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per a manufacturer recall in april of 2015 for the same failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

My name is [xxx]. i have a 2009 chevy malibu(vin #[xxx]), which i purchased in 2012. i have been having steering/traction issues, that enables me to turn without manpower'.and getting worse by the day. i was made aware that there is a recall for the steering issues on 2009 chevy malibu's as well as other chevy cars. i was getting ready to take in to for repair and was told by ntb when brought in for a wheel alignment that there is a recall for steering issues. i called chevy dealership(jack schmitt) and gm customer service and was told that my car was not on the recall list. how can over a million chevy cars be recalled for the same issue and i'm being told mine is not'make no sense to me. please help me understand ....as this is a life threatening and can cause total loss of control and cause me to crash, which can be fatal to me and other people. also my brake light illuminates all day long...took my car in to have it checked out and the chevy dealership repaired it at no cost to me...because it was a recall issue that i again did not know anything about..now the brake lights are illuminating again and i was told that since i had it repaired the 1st time its no longer covered under the recall....never knew recalls expired. i am not at fault for either of these issues. i refuse to pay out of pocket for known recall issues,,, information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while depressing the brake pedal, the brake lights failed to operate. when the brake pedal was released, the brake light illuminated. in addition, the dis active stability control warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, speed control). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Consistent problems with headlamps failing frequently. alternator fine. cause is due to corrosion of the wiring and wiring harness. manufacturer defect prevents replacement of headlamps, wires or wiring harnesses without removing front bumper, wheel and wheel well, making maintenance virtually impossible. headlamps failed in october 2014 and again in march of this year. general motors unwilling to help with problem. when operating the vehicles in low light conditions or at night, insufficient lighting makes it difficult to spot other vehicles, pedestrians, animals and other road hazards.

My passenger side low beam headlight works intermittently. i had the bulb replaced two months ago. i'd say it works about half the time. this is at all times, both moving and stationary and on city streets or highwys.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact took the vehicle to be serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes). the contact was informed that the high mount brake light failed without warning. it was diagnosed that the high mount brake wiring and the light needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while the vehicle was stopped at a red light, the check engine, traction control off, and stability control off warning lights illuminated. while the vehicle was parked on a hill, it independently rolled backwards without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the contact stated that the passenger side headlight failed to operate intermittently. the contact mentioned that the bulb was replaced multiple times, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness was burned and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 09v073000 (power train) and 12v460000 (power train). the failure mileage was 95,000.

The passenger low beam light burns out frequently. upon fixing the connection was melted. the steering becomes hard to turn while driving slow or slowing down to turn.

While driving my car the traction control light flashes and the service esc light flashes in the dash of my car. my brake light remain on at all time, when i mash the brakes no brake light comes on. the brake light is doing the opposite of what it is supposed to be doing. this occured months after i had recall work done (at a certified gm dealer) under gm recall number 13036 and nhtsa campaign number 14v252000.

High mounted brake light randomly works, similar to previous recall. chevy dealer tries to tell me light is "fried" when it actually works, intermittently. gm has yet to contact me on whether they will cover the cost

Rt front headlight became inoperative took vehicle to chevrolet dealership for repair mechanic found headlight connector burned and melted--light bulb connector burned possibility of electrical fire

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving at any speed, the brake light illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. in addition, the instrument panel lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic stability control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not included in a nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 82,997.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the brake lights constantly remained illuminated. prior to the failure, the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the contact mentioned that the brake light briefly deactivated when the brake pedal was depressed and illuminated afterwards. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake switch, the brake assembly light, and the multifunction switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

There was a recall for the wiring harness related to these problems..rk chevrolet in vineland,nj repaired it supposedly. days after the warranty on socalled repair the problem persisted yet again and i returned to dealership they said there was no problem with it...gave me codes for something else which did not relate to what is wrong...i'm getting nowhere with this and it is not safe to drive this vehicle which is needed for family transportation and work.esc light stays on,traction control stays on,brake lights come on while driving but not when braking.

The chmsl - center high mount stop light (3rd led brake light) works for a short period until it overheats or not at all failing to illuminate. it is not an wiring issue but the led unit itself. note - this issue is not associated to the bcm (body control module) gm is addressing. i have notice this is an issue not only with my individual car but several others i have seen on the road of same make/module-generation and corresponding model/year plus also mentioned in forums. i feel this is an very important safety feature that should not fail given it is an led lighting system to assist in preventing rear end collisions. once the warranty period expires, gm will not cover and is up to the individual to cover costs to replace/repair and is required to work for some states safety inspections. led lighting units like this should not fail, should be addressed by the car manufacturer for repair/replace costs and not passed on to the consumer. pictures can be provided if requested.

Bought my 2009 chevy malibu ltz in april 2015 in may 2015 my service esc service traction control lights started to come on and my taillights are lighting up as if on the breaks when i am not.( they come on while i am stoped at a red light have never come on while moving) returned to the dealership where i got my car and the lights were off so they said they could not do anything until the lights were on(the lights reset when i shut my car off). they came on last night went to chevy dealership last night 7/20/2015 and they told me to replace the break pedal switch and we did that but my break lights are still coming on when they want,it looks like there was a recall for this before i got my car and i don't know if it was fixed or not and if it could be fixed again under the recall...... very unhappy about this.

My driver side headlight keeps going out i've replaced it many time. the wire harness gets really hot and melts the wires.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while the cruise control was activated, it randomly deactivated. also, when the brake pedal was depressed, the center brake light would not illuminate and the rear brake lights illuminated very dimly. the contact also indicated that the transmission was replaced due to failures that prevented the vehicle from accelerating normally. no further information was available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact received a recall repair for nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). two years later, the brake lights failed to illuminate when applied, but would illuminate when the brake pedal was not depressed. the service esc and traction control warning indicators flashed. also, the cruise control shut off and operated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available. updated 11/01/17*lj *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.

The passenger front headlight burned out. i took it to the dealership and had it replaced. within a week or so, it had burned back out. at that time the dealership determined that the entire headlight assembly needed to be replaced. *tr

First issue happened with the driver low beam not working then work again a few days later. the problem keeps going on from passenger and driver low beams. i've noticed the connectors were melted and changed them and they would both work for a few weeks then one would go out again. second issue is the passenger airbag doesn't turn on when passengers are in the vehicle. it works sometimes but not everytime. third issue is the passenger side door locks. the door locks work sometimes and again not everytime like they should. there's a lot of people reporting these same issues but nothing gets done unless it's out of our pockets.

After the completion of repairs for recall 13036 in the fall of 2014 i was informed that my high mount break light was no longer function. after doing a great deal of research i have learned that a great number of consumers are facing the same challenge. my light worked without issues until the recall work was done on my car. the dealership stated that it was not warranty covered nor were they liable for the malfunction. it seems there is a direct connection between the recall repairs and these lights no longer functioning.

First issue noticed was passenger airbag not on while passengers are in front and rear of vehicle. the passenger airbag sensor works 50% of the time. second issue started close to the same time as the airbag. when using the keyless entry or the electric lock buttons inside the car , it fails to lock or unlock the passenger side doors. after 30 minutes or so it will then lock the doors. the latest issue started on the 19th of november 2014 with the driver side lowbeam not working as like it's blown. the car has been sitting for two days since and now the lowbeam is working but, it's dim compared to the passenger lowbeam. i believe there's a short in the electrical system from manufacturer. there are many forums online about these issues online from other owners. this car has not had any aftermarket installations of its electrical components and the battery is new. chevrolet needs to take the time when manufacturing their vehicles instead of cutting corners. their customers safety should be valued better than worrying about sales. you would think after going under they would take the time to do things right the first time. i highly doubt i will ever purchase a vehicle manufactured after 2002 from chevrolet due to all of the electrical components that fail or cause serious injury or death. please fix these issues or lose a 15 year customer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving at approximately 35 mph, the rear brake lights illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the brake lights remained illuminated after the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the contact stated the headlights failed to illuminate while driving. the contact had to use the high beams to drive at night. the failure occurred for one month. also, the vehicle failed to accelerate after a stop was made. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated, vibrated violently, and stalled. the deceleration failure began one week ago and the acceleration hesitation began two months ago. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control); however, the parts needed for the repair were unavailable. the dealer could not provide an estimated date for arrival. the manufacturer was notified. the contact had not experienced a failure.

2009 malibu began having issues where the bas light would come on in error. a recall has since been put out for this. around this same time, the car began having blinker issues. the right blinker would not turn off after a turn and the left blinker would not stay on without being held down. *tr

I was driving down the freeway between 70 & 75 mph. i heard brakes screeching behind me. i then realized that my cruz had also went off. i knew that my brake lights had come on for no reason again as they had in the past. i was sure cars were going to start rear ending each other because they thought i had slammed on my brakes. when this is occurring with my vehicle the brake lights are off when i'm stopped at a light or a stop sign and the brake lights come on when i take my foot off the brakes. the car will jerk like it is trying to stall. the rpm's will surge to 4000 while at the same time the car is slowing down. the cruz will not engage when the brake lights are on. these problems only occurs when the brake lights will not go off. *tr

After filing two complaints with you, and receiving a recall alert from you, i am being told by gm that my vehicle, a 2009 malibu built between the years specified in your recall notice, is not included in the recall you alerted me about. how is this possible? the referenced recall # 14v252000, as he experienced the same malfunction, as described in the recall. the consumer has invoices, that date bate to 2011, where he had to take the vehicle, back to the dealer several times, for an inoperable cruise control and esc lighting illuminating. updated 07/16/14
