My power steering went out, i was told no recall for 2007 model. i took it to the weisner gm dealership and paid $721.03 to have steering motor and module replaced on 08/21/14. i picked the car up at 5:30pm the same day, as soon as i started home i knew something was wrong. i immediately called but the service manager, [xxx], had left. i left him a voicemail. he called me the next morning and left me a voicemail explaining that gm was not responsible for everything that could be wrong with my car, rudely! i called him back and he again started a rant, i asked him to please listen to me, the customer. he said the earliest he could get my car in will be 08/25/14. on friday i drove my car for work, i am a courier. in the afternoon around 3:30 while i was making a turn the chimes sounded and my power steering went out again! i called him, [xxx], back and told him that i was in a turn at the time and almost hit a barrier. he said he could not do anything until he gets the car back. i told him i tried to get the car back to him but he refused and said he didn't have any time until monday, 08/25. i have explained to him, from the beginning, that i am a courier and am on the road at least 6 hours/day and that i really feel this is a safety issue and that i was afraid of having a wreck but i cannot afford not to work since my husband passed away 2 months ago. he said he had no loaner cars. i called the 866 number for customer care and spoke with kelsey who opened a ticket and escalated it. i should hear something on monday, i hope. i do not think any repairs were done to steering...lack of communication? management? i just don't know. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My granddaughter was driving my car when the cars power steering just went. she almost hit another car. i''v had the power steering fixed and it cost me about $1100/ also the car original was purchased by robert my husband but now i drive it and pay the payments. i had the car fixed at hoselton auto mall at 909 fairport road. east rochester,ny 14445. the same place my husband bought the car.
The power steering assist suddenly quit several times while driving; both at freeway speed and while exiting the freeway at about 15 mph. when the power steering fails the steering column would make a clicking sound, sometimes there would be a chime and the battery light indicator on the dash. only one time the center console displayed "power steering." we narrowly avoided a crash while going around a curve in the freeway. the loss of power assist required exerting more force than normal to avoid colliding with the divider. when the power steering re-engaged without warning we swerved towards a truck in the adjacent lane. we took it to the nearest dealer who said it's a faulty ignition coil causing a short in the power steering. cost quoted was $500 to fix in addition to $450 for the shifter cable that also went out. *tr
Steering wheel locked up and i was unable to make a turn. i had to brake sudden so as to not run into the back of another car. message came across radio saying power steering. i pulled the car over with alot of difficulty and called my husband to come to see if we needed a tow. when he arrived and started car it worked fine. we called our dealer as we purchased the vehicle only 4 days prior to this and they stated that they would investigate as there was currently no recalls for this year. i am worried about driving the vehicle now since this may happen again and since reading other comments from others that this is apparently an issue that gm is aware of and not correcting. *tr
It's happened 3 times, driving various speeds the steering locks up. first time i was making a right turn and the car instantly locked up. i put the car in park and powered car off then started it back up it was fine. second time about 3 months after the first time went threw a stop light started up a hill and the dash lights all flicker the radio powered off and the seat belt noise went off 2 or 3 times and the car locked up. i parked the car powered it off. started it again it was fine. last time it happened i was at a stop light making a right turn and again the steering locked up and i had to park my car and power it off on a main street where it's very busy. i started it again and it was fine this last time was on july 15, 2014 . this car with all the recalls i feel is a death trap. *tr

Steering: (2014-2015) the power steering goes out unexpectedly while driving. a power steering notice appears on the radio. had a mechanic check power steering fluid and found no need, fluid level was fine. power steering outages continue to happen intermittently and without notice until finally going out completely in march 2015. power steering is on at start-up of vehicle then goes out in first minute or two of driving. chevrolet dealer replaced power steering torque sensor @ $470. there is a recall for this same issue in the previous model year but was told my car is not covered. the car only has 55,000 miles. engine: (2014) engine block cracked after 5 minute drive to work with only 35,000 miles on the car. mechanic said they had never seen anything like it. all fluid levels were fine and there was no apparent reason for this to happen. because the vehicle is a 2007 the warranty was expired. paid $2000 for a used engine to be installed! now paying for the "not covered" power steering issue. perhaps it's time to buy a different make of vehicle. *tr

The steering wheel on my 2007 malibu ls suddenly started jerking both to the left and right as i was driving down a residential road going about 30 mph. as i turned right, the car was harder to turn as the steering wheel was still jerking and moving the whole car in several degrees further than i moved it and then jerked in the opposite direction. as i was at a red light and my foot was on the brake, i removed my hands from the steering wheel and it was moving on its own left and right. about 3 minutes later the warning came on my radio indicator. i took the car in to get checked and was told the power steering motor was out and so was the steering angle sensor and that with parts, labor and tax it would cost $1,478.69 to fix at the dealership where i purchased. *tr
Power steering warning on dash display, failed. power steering did come back on restart, but still have warning. dealer says requires motor, steering column, intermediate shaft, almost $2000.00. says he thinks there will be recall - maybe! *tr

I received a recall #13036 in the mail however my car has been unsafe to drive since june 2014 due to the steering wheel being uncontrollable it jerks to the right and to the left randomly it vibrates to the right and left when it is in park, i am not a mechanic but i don't think this has any thing to do with the brakes and i have observed many complaints such as mine from other people, call line people tell me to take it in and have a diagnostic run on it i have not been able to work for the last 2 months i just want my car fixed and this is some sort of faulty problem people are just more cautious due to all the recalls. please follow up on mine and other steering problems. i have previously sent this problem to you 6/2014. *tr
My car started pulling to the left and i was unable to control the steering wheel i pulled over checked my tires and when i got back into the car the steering wheel was turning back and forth on it's own while in park, i drove it home the whole time it pulled to the left and i was unable to control the steering i have been unable to drive it since i have read many complaints about the same problems from other people i think it would be a good idea to recall these automobile before some else has an accident. *tr

Was driving home and the power steering went out. when i start the car now it works fine until i shift the car in gear and then the steering goes out again. i haven't even had the car a week and i have found that all years but 2007 have been recalled for power steering issues. something needs to be done about the 2007! *js

When turning left or right or merging into traffic, the steering wheel clicks and gets very hard to steer like it's pulling to the side, causing me to overcorrect by steering in the opposite direction- it feels like i am going to lose control of the car and is very frightening but then it stops. it has happened several times over the years but is becoming more frequent. i have entered my vin on the gm site but it says i am not a part of the recall. how is that possible when i am having the exact same problem? i am also having the problem with my brake lights- they go on when i am not braking and off when i do. i had to replace the gear shift last fall because it broke and my car would not stay in park. is there anything i can do if i am not on the recall list? this is completely unsafe- i will never, ever buy a gm car again. *tr
While turning onto a freeway on-ramp the power steering failed entirely for several seconds and a clicking sound similar to when the turn signal comes on came from the steering column. after traveling about 100 meters, the power steering came back on causing us to over-correct and narrowly miss the barriers. *tr

I purchased my 07 chevrolet malibu in feb 2007. the power steering problem started last summer! the steering wheel is extremely hard to turn and it doesn't matter if i'm parking or turning onto a street. i have to reset the steering by turning the car off/on. in may of this year, i went to the er with chest pain and was diagnosed with a pulled muscle in my chest. i took my car to a mechanic in june, and was quoted $600 to replace the power steering. it amazes me that 2004-2006, and 2008 were recalled but not 2007. this is not fair at all. please recall this part because i can't afford to fix this car! *tr

Vehicle suddenly lost power steering, and "power steering" came up on the message center. i have read multiple on-line postings describing the same event that happened to me/this vehicle. it is a 4 cylinder with electric assist power steering. how is it that the 2007 model year escaped a recall from 2004-2006 and 2008-2009? *tr
This vehicle has the same electrical power steering assist unit as other gm models that have been recalled, why is this vehicle not recalled. it will kick off randomly while driving and then sometimes kick back on while driving, now i have it immobile in my garage as it is undriveable. there have been several occasion i feared my life as i had to make quick turns to avoid potholes, etc. i no longer drive this vehicle and it remains immobile in my garage waiting for this to be a recall to find out that this model year is not included. this needs recalled or explained why it has been removed. *tr

My power steering went out as my wife was driving down the road. before it went completely out the steering wheel was moving when the car was stopped. the wheel appeared to be jumping. this happened on the same day that gm announced the recall for the steering issues on 2006 and 2008 malibu's. i called gm to tell them about my car and they told me to bad that mine was not part of the recall. i'm sure gm used the same parts in all three years 2006, 2007, & 2008. *tr
While in my driveway, i turned on my ignition to travel to a local store and at first assumed the steering wheel was locked up some how. as i tried to turn the steering wheel, i was able to turn the tires using brute force. tried it again a few minutes after exiting and then re-entering the vehicle, it suddenly worked fine so i assumed it was a fluke. tried it later that day and the same thing happened where the power steering simply did not exist. had my father-in-law test it and he came to the same conclusion that it was a problem with the power steering. drove it to balise chevrolet in warwick, ri while still experiencing the lack of power steering for repair. recall for power steering for 2007 chevy malibu came out a couple of days later. currently my vin does not qualify but i clearly had the issue as noted in the recall. *js

Again, i file a complaint. i lost my power steering, a message was displayed to inform me of the loss. steering was very difficult to maintain at manual steering.. at this time no recalls were made. on 3/31 a recall was made for chevrolet malibu models from 2004 and 2005, and some from 2006, 208 and 2009. mine is a 2007 and is having the same problems. my auto has been unsafe to drive because of this steering problem. why isn;t my automobile on the recall list. you corrected the problem for 1 year and then went back to a cheaper way ??????? what was done different to the 2007 models, that they didn;t appear in the recall. i have asked for the phone number of [xxx] , gm's newly appointed vice president of global vehicle safety, no one will give me his number. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
