We have classified the 47 complaints from 2000 Chevrolet Malibu about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet malibu. while driving and attempting to switch lanes, the turn signals and hazard lights failed to function. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 03v327000 (exterior lighting); therefore, they did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 167,000.
Takata recall i currently own this vehicle and i'm not able to use the blinkers or emergency lights when you turn them on all you hear is a loud alarm sounding nosie. they do not come on when this happens. i know they work some times but it's very few and in between . i seen there has been recalls in the past for this on this car but the elderly lady wasn't aware of them . is there anything i can do under the recall to get this fixed. i had a mechanic look at it and there not sure how to fix it.
Has issues that are recalled on other 2000 malibu's. blinkers stopped working on & off one day. then stopped totally next day, changed fuse nothing helped. doesn't even show on instrument panel. car refuses to start at times, takes any where from 3-5 tries to start. also had recall done on ignition, didn't help, i replaced whole ignition switch after the dealer 'fixed' it. battery kepted on draining before that.
Gas fuel turned black and was spilling out while i was driving then turned off on its own in the intersection of palm st n main street santa paula ca.
There are three safety problems that have occurred. the first is that the turn signals sometimes work and sometimes don't. the second is that the engine will at time accelerate on it's own while driving and while idle. the third is that the engine sometimes completely shuts off while driving when it rains. a car repair shop has identified problems with the throttle position sensor and the idle air control motor. searching on the internet reveals that this particular car has problems with the emergency light control that causes turn signal problems. i performed a recall search and the only recall i found was for an ignition switch modification which doesn't seem to relate to my problems.

My 2000 chevy malibu, vin [xxx] recently began having intermittent turn signal failure. sometimes the turn signals work, and sometimes they don't. recall 03v327 did not apply to my vin, and a special program chevy implemented, described in nhtsa action # rq04005 applied to my car but expired in february 2010. under this program, gm replaced failed switches for free. they refuse to do this for me now, as the program has expired. the recall doesn't expire, but the program does. as this acknowledged defect is exactly the same as the issue of the recall, why is there an allowed expiration for the remedy??! this makes no sense, and is adverse to public safety! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

After driving for a few minutes, suddenly without warning, the turn signals stopped working, so i stuck my arm out the window to try to compensate for the lack, i tried to use emergency flashers and they did not work either. every day that i drive, the turn signals work for about 15 minutes then stop (even the emergency flashers stop working). i contacted the chevy recall # 800-630-2438 and spoke to daniel who told me that the recalls are vin specific and that my car was not included in those vin #'s and that i have to pay to have it fixed. *tr
Driving from queens to brooklyn, ny and suddenly without warning, the turn signals stopped working, so i stuck my arm out the window to try to compensate for the lack. every day that i drive, the turn signals work for about 15 minutes then stop (even the emergency flashers stop working). i've taken the car to mechanics who are as stumped as i was (until today) when i saw the nhtsa.dot recall and investigation list which included my car 2000 chevy impala. *tr
Turn signals have not been working upon demand. as of 9/82010 my turn signals have stopped working all together. gm said my vin did not fall in the recall category of the same vehicles with the same problem. *tr
Turn signals inoperable. flasher inoperable. this makes it impossible to alert other drivers of intent to turn or change lanes causing a dangerous situation. i was told there has already been a recall by the chevrolet representative. the recall was for the turn signals and hazard switch and both have been replaced by a previous owner at 70000 mi. under the previous recall. i am now having the same problem at 172000 mi. and was told it is now not their responsibility. *tr
My turning signals hasn't worked in about a year so my alternator pulley was completely off my car and i took my car to the dealership they took a look at everything that was wrong with my car and they said the hazard switch needed to be replaced so i paid 122.00 then i was browsing the internet and i seen that the 2000 chevy malibu had a recall on the hazard switch, to get that replaced plus the alternator pulley that had completely broke off and belt in all i paid 540.00. *tr
The turn signals started working intermittent, then quit. this was a recall a couple of years ago, and it was related to the hazard warning switch. my car was taken to the dealership and the switch was replaced. unfortunately, this is a repeat and was not covered under the recall. the switches are still going bad and not covered. my instrument panel was destroyed internally when my switch was replaced and this damage was discovered during the last replacement in which i replaced the switch on my own since it was not covered. *tr

I have a problem with my turn signals but while researching i found a recall notice for 2000-2001 chevy malibus. i contacted chevy (victor wood) and they refused to fix the problem and give me a written statement on why they would not fix it. they only gave me a file number 71-659486155 for reference. the problem i am having is identical to the recall notice. the 5 digit gm recall number is 03043 and the summary is: summary: certain passenger vehicles have hazard warning switches that may experience solder joint cracking caused by rapid temperature transitions and the soldering process. if solder joint cracking occurs and results in an open circuit, the turn signals/hazard lamps become intermittent or inoperative. consequence: when the turn signals are inoperative, the driver cannot use them to signal intent to turn that could result in a crash. remedy: dealers will replace the hazard warning switch. owner notification began on february 5, 2004. owners should contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, pontiac at 1-800-620-7668, or oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537. *tr

Car drove well for 4 years no problem, then signal lights stopped working, works sometimes, but most of the time doesn't, have had bulbs changed many times, brand new bulbs, signals works when they want to. i've been honked at & cars have blew their horns at my vehicle because i have to turn sometimes & it fails to work, then i saw recall on internet. *tr
I have a 2000 chevy malibu with a faulty hazard switch. as per gm my car does not have any recalls based on my vin#. the cost for the part is under $30 but the cost for labor at the chevy dealer is more than $200 for a total of almost $300. i have since replaced this part myself and my turn signals and hazard's are in working order. i paid the $30 for the part and it took me less that 6 minutes to replace. now since i'm someone who knows his way around a car, it upsets me that a dealership would charge that much. since the part for the recall fixed my problem and gm says it had no recalls i would like them to pay me for the repair of the problem. they have stated in the past that if they found that this would become a recall issue they would reimburse me for the repair. it's only fair since they would charge me in the first place to make the repair since in their system my car does not need any recalls. i could see them charging for an hour of labor, parts and tax. but that would be about $100. please let me know what you find out. thanks. *tr
