I own a 2000 chevy malibu and i owned it since 2007 july...since then i have had problems with my hazard lights and signal lights...when i would be driving my car i would use my signal to turn left or right and it would make a crackle sound and stop working completley i would then try to use my hazard they would do the same thing make a crackle sound and not work..also with my headlights my problem with them is they work when they want to and when they do work they stay on even when my car is completely off am talking keys out of the engine and everything i would have to pop my hood and move around the fuses till the car lights finally turn off..i have taken my car into the dealership were i bought my car and all they did was give me a hardtime told me there was nothing wrong with my car and that my vin# is not on the recall list...but there is a recall on 2000 chevy malibu about there hazardlights signal lights and headlights not only that the nhtsa dose not say anything about specific vin# for the recalls it jus says that this is recalls on 2000 chevy malibu. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevy malibu. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut off without warning when she attempted to accelerate. she was able to restart the vehicle after waiting approximately 40 minutes. the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. the warning indicator light illuminated when trying to restart the vehicle; however, details re: the warning indicator was not in the manual. the warning indicator was of someone sitting in the seat and the contact confirmed that it was not related to the seat belt. the left and right turn signals failed intermittently, unless the hazard button is used. there is a recall for the exterior lighting hazard flashing warning lights switch (nhtsa campaign #03v327000); however, the dealer stated that her vin was not included. the current mileage was 144,778. updated 02-01-08. *kb
Turn signal failure, signals seem to stop working quite often when i am attempting to turn. *tr
The truth is all i want is my safety and my problem is very serious +the problem is listed under the nhtsa defect investigation# ea02037 and recall# 03v327000 with dates of recall from feb 1st 2000 - may 31 2001 my vehicle was manufactured in oklahoma in april 2000 however calling gm a representative of gm named [xxx] informed me that my gm is not on the recall list after 30 min of trying to figure out why i asked for a supervisor named [xxx] whom was not in the office and is supposed to call back and then i asked for that person supervisor presumably the manager and i was told i could not speak to that person and when i asked for that persons name i was told that the managers it was against company policy to give out the managers name and also against company policy to give out any last names furthermore i was given incorrect information about the manufacturing plant of my vehicle. i believe i should have my car on the recall list if i fit the description accurately and fall in between the correct dates it is a very serious safety hazard and could become fatal if not fixed very soon. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Turn signals stop working with out warning. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet malibu. the contact found recall number 03v327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch), but the dealer stated that his vin was not included. the contact stated that he is experiencing the same failure as noted in the recall. he stated that the turn signals have not worked for the past ten months. the hazard lights began activating by themselves when the vehicle was shut off and the key was not in the ignition. the failure was intermittent originally, but is now constant. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 119,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.
Turn signal does not work intermittently. when the turn signal does not work, i turn on the hazard flashers, then the turn signal works. my 1980 chevrolet malibu was manufactured october 1999, so i did not receive a recall pursuant to nhtsa #03v327000. when i contacted dealer, i was told they could not diagnose the problem unless i brought it in when the signal was not working. since it is intermittent, that is impossible until it fails altogether. i assume the dealer was aware of the recall on models with a different manufacture date. *nm
Turn signals won't work at times and some times when i use my four ways, they won't either and when i do use my turn signals the four ways come on. *jb

1999 malibu v6 with 70,000 miles. turn signals have become erratic. i replaced the fuse, and it worked, but again at times, they don't work, and at times, they do. no real pattern. sometimes, they work in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon, some times, when the engine is cold, and sometimes warmed up. *jb
I purchased this car used in march of 2006. upon purchasing the vehicle, i found that the turn signal only worked intermittently. i also noticed that the hazard switch did not function at all. over time i have found that when the heat is on that the turn signals fail to work without shifting the hazard switch around, and when the cold air is on that it works decently. gm issued recall 03043 (nhtsa campaign 03v327000) for over 670,000 malibus, aleros, and grand ams in 2000-2001. however, upon visiting the dealership they stated that my 2000 malibu was not covered by the recall. in looking over the vehicle history we found that the hazard switch had been replaced while under warranty by the first own (which implies it was faulty), and the new one is at least dysfunctional as the first. even though the problem and its cause is evident, the dealership fails to remedy the issue. several mechanics have diagnosed the problem to be exactly what is described in the recall. the dealership has only offered me the chance to call their customer service center to see if they can help me. due to the faulty hazard switch, i am unable to signal when making lane changes or turning. i am unable to use my hazard switch in case of emergency, or when my car has to be stopped on the side of the road or interstate. *tr
My turn signal, hazard lights work periodically had them looked at and worked on and still have problems. *tr
A faulty hazard switch causes the turn signals to intermittently stop working at the most in opportune time. on one occasion it almost resulted in a serious accident. the switch was replaced for the same reason by the dealership on april 15, 2002. it is now malfunctioning again only much more frequently than before. i see that there is a recall for this issue on 2000/2001 malibu owners(id number 03v327000) but the dealership states that my vin number does not show up in the recall. he also claims that since the part was already replaced once it would not be covered again. i searched the web and noticed that owners of 2002 malibus are also complaining of the same problem. so, it is not just an isolated issue. since i never use the hazard switch it can't possibly have gone bad because of wear and tear. nor is it a part that would be used frequently enough to wear out. there is obviously a serious safety defect with the part. *jb
On july 7, 2005 i purchased a 2000 chevy malibu ls. the right two brake lights continue to burn out. never at the same time, it's either the one on the outside or the inner one.*jb
Gm's recall #03v327000 which states that the hazard light switch is defective and will keep the turn signals from flashing. my 2000 malibu is having this trouble, but since the vin is not within the break points, i will have to pay to have it fixed. *jb
While driving at night and when i used my turn signal on for a left turn. it did not operate. my mechanic told me about a safety recall for my vehicle. i contacted team chevrolet here in colorado springs,co and was told there was no recall for my 2000 chevrolet malibu.*jb
Hazard flasher began working intermittently, then the turn signals began working intermittently. no pattern, they would be on then go off. i was in heavy freeway traffic with no turn signal or hazard flasher. i was able to get off the freeway and drive home using arm signals and slowing to allow faster traffic to pass me. *nm the consumer wishes to withdrawal the complaint he filed with nhtsa. the manufacturer has agreed to remedy the vehicle's problem at no cost to the consumer. *nm the consumer was told the recall did no apply to his vehicle identification number. the washer pump was replaced due to a leak.*jb

This vehicle was purchased by an individual for my son as a first car. low miles and low price. when we recieved the title we found out that it was a salvage vehicle. my son being the teenager he was just excited to have four wheels never mentioned to us that the turn signals worked intermittingly. when we purchased another vehicle for my son for graduation, i started to drive the 2000 chevy malibu and noticed the turn signals doing this. then i noticed the hazards were doing the same intermittingly working. i made an appointment at the chevy house to get the problem fix and at the time from a friend found out about a factory recall for cars of this make and model with the same problem. when i went in they searched using the vin # and said they could not help. approximately 1 hour later i called the cheverolet company. at first they gave me a number and a code for a special policy complaint. then after 25 minutes of my time he informed me that nothing could be done to fix the vehicle because it was a salvage vehicle. this is a factory defect. it had nothing to do with the vehicle being a salvage vehicle. if that is the case then why do state departments even allow these vehicles on the road . i just need the turn signals and hazards fixed so no innocent people will be hurt at any point. i can take this vehicle in for a diagnostic test also so it can be tested for this. i need this fix but it shouldn't be at my expense.
Dt* turn signals work within a 20 minute period, and one can only get to work when hitting the flashers. no noise or smell. learned after talking to mechanic that hitting the flashers makes them work sometimes. *ak

I have already filed complaint in regards to the hazard light recall, which for some reason does not cover my 2000 malibu. i noticed other complaints on the malibu and figured i would throw my two cents in. i to have had to drop over $1000 dollars into the most defective car i have purchased this includes the $200 piece of junks i bought when i was a teenager. my list of problems. 1. coolant system leak cost $700 note: mechanic laughed and said this happens all the time is this type of engine. in reviewing other complaints, the one really stands out. nice i am glad gm owns up to its problems. 2. brakes constantly need to be replaced well below mileage. glad gm saved a few bucks under sizing the rotors. 3. within a year the fans switch (levels 1,2) and lighter stopped working. boy gm is saving lots money now. 4. within the past year i had fuel pump failure, nothing like traveling in rush hour traffic doing 75mph and car totally dieing. boy gm has made one quality car. 5. the last insult, my first and likely last gm product is when i thought boy i finally get something from gm in regards to one small defect, the hazard switch, i find out that my vehicle is not covered by this recall. wow not only i am out at least $1000 bucks on piece of crap product, gm does not even want to give a bone to hungry man. with this type of product it is no wonder gm is losing market share faster than any other automotive company. keep up the good work gm. clearly the are some serious defects with this vehicle and the gms ownership with defects.
The turn signals work intermittently. no service has been performed on the vehicle for the existing problem.*ak

Chev. 2000 malibu recall 03043 (03v327000). unable to get recall completed due to no parts available. at sloane chevrolet service department (cottman ave., phila, pa.) on 1/17/05: arrangements were made over 1 week in advance to come in for the recall. recall description & recall number & vin number were given to the chevrolet dealer service department so they could br sure to have what's necessary to complete the service. despite this, the dealer did not have the parts necessary to do the recall! this is after i made arrangements to get the work done while i was off from work, and traveled there on a treacherous snowy day. suggestion was made by the dealer (sloane chev.) to contact another dealership, make arrangements to bring the car in for the recall, and then hope that they have the part. obviously chevrolet/gm does not want to get this recall completed! *jb
