The vehicle has started losing power steering at low speeds intermittently. in researching the problem, a recall on the electronic power steering for this 2009 hhr was found. in addition, i found that gm issued a bulletin (14119) under recall n140115, stating that for model year 2006-2008 and early production 2009 hhrs, to provide eps motor replacement for the life of the vehicle. since i have not had this vehicle since 2009, i contacted the dealership to look up the recall history and found the eps motor was replaced once already. however, this late 2008 production/mid-2009 delivery hhr is losing power steering at low speeds again. while myself and teenage daughter have driven it on the road. the dealership could get no diagnostic code of this and has told me there is no open recall on this vehicle and we are responsible for paying for the motor replacement. i am very disturbed that this problem 1. generates no code, 2. is being unacknowledged by gm, and 3. seems to be an on-going threat to safety for many hhr drivers. gm has made a mistake in not including my make/model (or so it seems) in the bulletin pertaining to replacing the ...
Vehicle intermittently loses power steering at various speeds, from low to highway speeds. making the vehicle very hard to steer especially in turns and corners, and extremely dangerous. there is an existing recall (14v15300) for this exact issue, but when calling the gm dealership and the gm customer service line i was told that my vehicles vin was not affected by the recall. how, if i am having the exact same problem, is it not considered a 'safety issue' for me? but they were more than happy to schedule me an appointment to fix the 'known issue', at my expense of course. my vehicle only has 61,000 miles, so this is not a normal 'wear and tear' issue. especially when i find an article by rueters in which the vice president of gm's global vehicle safety says 'with these safety recalls and lifetime warranties, we are going after every car that might have this problem, and we are going to make it right," said jeff boyer, vice president of gm global vehicle safety. "we have recalled some of these vehicles before for the same issue and offered extended warranties on others, but we did not do enough." very frustrating that ...
Electric power steering first started to fail about 12/20/19. it would not allow assisted steering until the vehicle started moving. it worked like this for a few days and then started to fail at random while driving, the worst incident when starting to make a turn at a busy intersection. i barely avoided an accident because it tried to straighten my wheels while i was in the turn. shortly after it failed completely. it now has no power assist. i would here a clicking from under the dash, and when that stopped, my steering returned. now it clicks and there is no further assist. i saw where other gm cars with this system were covered under a recall, including newer models, but when i called them, they stated there were no open recalls on my vehicle. the car is unsafe to drive in this state and needs to be repaired.
The power steering went out as we were dealing with a starter issue. it indicated only once on the dash that there might be something wrong with the power steering. now it's completely gone. the dash doesn't show any information that there could be an issue. it's very hard to take turns. both wide or tight. it takes a lot of strength to get the steering wheel to move. if i drive it, moving from lane to lane is difficult. i now have it back in the shop for the mechanic to check it out and run a diagnostic test on the electrical system.
2010 chevy hhr lt with 76,500 miles. sudden loss of power steering while driving. upon doing research this is a well known problem by gm and they refuse to warranty the defect or perform a recall. unsafe to drive when power steering suddenly quits on highway. was driving approx. 60 miles per hour on the highway when light came on dash and lost power steering. steering to a lot of effort.
Driving and power steering randomly quits working been happening for 5 days.
Have owned 1- 2008 & 1-2009 hhr ss with 2.0l turbo charger and manual 5 speed trans, and right at 100,000 miles the front suspension makes a horrendous noise like the front suspension is going fall out from under it when hitting small bumps . also if you move the steering wheel back and forth it will make a very similar noise. the 2008 got totaled from a lady pulling out in front of me had changed the sway bar end links prior to accident made no change. meeting the same mileage on the 2009 and already making the same exact noise . almost afraid to drive it on the freeway for fearing of loosing the steering and killing anyone. i have read up on this concern and have seen alot of people with same noise and have spent 1,000s of dollars and noise still there. you would think someone would have been able to correct the problem before there are deaths involved but even the dealership can't find the fix. really feel like this should be investigated at once, can't believe that there hasn't been a recall done yet.
When driving the steering wheel will lock up and i can not turn.power steering warning message appear in the dash panel. this occurs when driving on the highway or anywhere i'm driving
When driving my power steering shuts off and the light pops on however when i turn car off and back on it works again for a few minutes. i was driving on a city street and turned and it shut off and i almost hit a pole because of this thank god my 3 year old was not with me this time
While driving my 2010 chevy hhr, i had just exited the highway and was entering the speedway fuel station, my steering just seemed to lockup on me and a dash alert flashed "service esc" then i suddenly lost all power! in order to avoid any major tragedy like colliding with a gas pump or another vehicle, i was able to run it into the curb i felt like my arms were nearly ripped from the sockets. after having it towed to my home and the following day towed to a mechanic. discovered that the experience was not exclusively mine, apparently some 444 others had as well. i checked for recall notices was told that the recalls were closed and repairs were done. i would like to know by whom, when and where exactly! it obviously was not done permanently nor satisfactorily as i'm very sore now, but could have been killed!
