Problems with 2012 Chevrolet Equinox VISIBILITY/WIPER

On average, the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox starts to “feel” problems with the VISIBILITY/WIPER and its various aspects after 90 207 miles.

Recently reported VISIBILITY/WIPER problems on 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

I use my wipers on low without problems. i had to turn on high while on the interstate and the first swipe they stopped working. the motor can be heard but the wipers will not work anymore

On january 10, 2020, i was driving on hwy. 97 to bend, or, in heavy rain when the wipers sudden stopped. they were in the full wipe position, and they would not move any further. i was able to pull over to the side of the road, but the wipers would not work again. i turned them on and off, and moved them back to the rest position, but they would not move. the rain was too intense to drive without them, so i had to call a tow truck. this was a rather dangerous situation, and it would have been much more dangerous had i still been traveling in heavy snow through the mt. hood passes. i was able to get the car to the chevy dealer in bend the following morning, and they repaired it, stating that the motor had failed. they replaced the motor, though it was not covered by warranty or recall. they did not mention that there have been problems with wipers in these vehicles, something i only learned about after this experience. it seems like chevrolet may be putting the owners of its vehicles at risk. this is very disconcerting.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving in heavy rain, the windshield wipers stopped functioning and the contact was unable to see the road. the contact stated that she injured her knee when the windshield wiper abruptly stopped functioning. medical attention was sought. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 9-570-384-6752. the failure mileage was approximately 184,319.

While driving down the busy highway 1 near princeton, nj, in a heavy rain storm, the windshield wipers completely stopped working and became unresponsive, causing visibility to be nearly non-existent and almost causing me to be in an accident before i could pull over. the wipers have not worked at all since, causing me to be unable to see the road. i had to receive a tow to the nearest service station.

I was driving on the highway duringthe day in heavy rain. without warning, both wipers stopped in the up position. i tried turning the wipers off and back on and nothing happened. i turned the wipers off and finished the drive home ' fortunately only a mile away. could barely see out the front windshield but drove slowly with emergency flashers on.when i got home, i located the fuse to check. it was ok. i then turned on the wipers and could hear the motor running but the wipers were not moving. i called the local chevrolet dealer to get it fixed ' the next day when it was not raining. fortunately i was close to home but if it had been raining or snowing, it would have ben impossible to get it safely to the garage to get fixed. in my 50+ years of driving, i have never experienced this as a failure. it would have been very serious if driving away from home..

Wipers stopped working unexpectedly in a light rain. i can hear the motor when the wipers are on but the wiper blades don't move. i have seen that there was a recall for certain model years and/or vins in canada for this problem, but there is no recall for my model year or vin #. the canada recall mentions corrosion of the wiper assembly from road salt and improper drainage.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving in heavy rain, the wipers failed and the contact was unable to view the road. the wiper motor was still running; however, an independent mechanic stated that the wipers needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 30 mph in the rain, the front windshield wipers suddenly stopped operating. the cause of the failure was not determined. mike castrucci chevrolet (1099 lila ave, milford, oh) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 130,000.

While riding on the highway in a storm the windshield wipers stopped working for my wife. this is extremely dangerous, my 9 year old son and 5 year old daughter were in the car. the 2013 equinox has been recalled for the same thing but it seems like chevy is waiting for a casualty before doing the right thing. there are multiple cases of this happening. http://m.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/equinox/2012/windows_windshield/wiper_stopped_working.shtml please do something.

Driving at 40 mph with wipers on high in traffic..the wipers suddenly stopped mid way across wind shield. ..almost wrecked. pulled over to side and waited for storm to pass..

Late evening, i was driving in a busy suburban street wher the speed limit is 35mph. it was raining lightly, soon after start raining havily. i switched the winshield wiper to high speed and the winshield wipers stopped working.i could no longer see where i was going and almost got into an accident. i manage to stop on the side of the road and wait for the rain to stop.. plastic bushing came off from windshield wiper railing. the car has 61,000 miles.

I was driving on the highway at night time during light rain. without warning, both wipers stopped in the up position. i tried turning the wipers off and back on and nothing happened. i turned the wipers off and got off the next exit and pulled into a service station to get under some light. i tried to move the wipers and they went into their resting position. i then turned on the wipers and could hear the motor running but the wipers were not moving. fortunately, the rain stopped and i was able to complete my trip home. just a few days earlier, i drove through a very heavy rain storm and thank the lord that the wipers didn't quit at that time. i would not have been able to see where i was going.

I was driving on the freeway, going 60 mph in the pnw. it was dumping rain and i was in the passing lane when my windshield wipers just stopped working. i had my 1 year old in the backseat and all i could see was all the cars ahead of me slammed on their brakes. my windshield was glowing red from the break lights. i have no idea how i didn't crash my car or hit the person in front of me. i was so close to them. i rolled down my window and had to literally stick half the upper portion of my body out the window to see a little bit. thank goodness, i was able to move over 4 lanes (after forcing my way through, i had no choice because i could not see). everyone was honking at me like i was the biggest jerk, but if i didn't move over i was going to kill us or someone else who was driving. i am seriously lucky to be alive. not shocking, i lookup the issue online and chevy knows about this problem and has done nothing. nothing! this is not the only time chevy has done nothing about this equinox having problems. it also has an oil consumption problem. this car has cost me thousands of dollars, and now it didn't just give me a huge mechanical bill, it almost cost me my life and my sons. i'm so defeated at this point. this car is not reliable for someone with children or anyone who is living in the pnw where it rains constantly. super thankful to be alive.

Both wipers stopped working in a heavy rain on freeway. i have read complaints of other owner on chevy equinox too

As i was getting ready to leave for work during a thunderstorm, my wipers stopped working. they worked maybe for 2 seconds and stopped right in my line of sight. my car was stopped at this time.

It started to rain heavily i turned on my front windshield wipers they came on went to the left side and stopped working leaving me in the middle of the highway. it was terrifying. during research it seems the same complaint over and over wipers stop working leaving you in the middle of the road in a downpour

Had front wipers on "intermittent" in a light rain, which quickly became a heavy summer rainstorm. upon switching the wipers to high speed, the wipers made one upward pass and completely stopped in the vertical position. the rain was so heavy it was impossible to see to pull to the side of the residential street. i had to stop in the traffic lane with vehicles behind me due to the lack of visibility, which was obviously very dangerous. prior to this failure the wipers worked fine without any unusual noises, etc. i brought my equinox to a chevrolet dealership who found that the wiper transmission needed to be replaced and they completed the repair.

I had my wipers on during a downpour rain. while driving to work at 7:30 am, monday, july, 22, 2019, on a highway at a slightly reduced speed (50mph in a 65mph zone) my wipers quit working in the extended position directly in my line of site. this was a distraction and hazard as i was in heavy traffic.

2012 chevy equinox, without any prior signs or issues, driver's side wiper stopped working while i was driving on the roadway approximately 50 mph in the rain. the wiper remained in the up position. dealer charged $320 parts and labor for "wiper motor and transmission found to be broken replaced all".

While driving down the highway during a heavy rainstorm the windshield wipers abruptly stopped working. i had the wipers in the highest speed setting. luckily there were no vehicles next to us when this happened - we were able to pull off the highway. we had to wait for the storm to lighten as visibility very quickly went to zero without both front wipers working. the wiper motor was still working but the linkage or transmission had disconnected at one of the ball joints.

Rear window shattered under normal conditions. no previous damage to window. car was parked in a parking lot. defroster was deactivated. weather: sunny and 90-95 deg f.

While my wife was driving home in a downpour with the wipers on high, they stopped working in mid-cycle. she cautiously made it to an auto parts store where they explained it was most likely the linkage on the wiper transmission.

While driving, it began raining and all of a sudden the windshield wipers stopped working. we were on the highway and had to stop abruptly to avoid an accident. it is hazardous and dangerous to operate a vehicle mid storm without proper visibility. it is imperative that this be corrected expeditiously.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 70 mph, the windshield wipers became inoperable without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the windshield wiper transmission linkage fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5328759761. the approximate failure mileage was 134,000.

Wipers stopped working in the middle of a rain storm. searching online seems it's fairly common. dangerous situation.

I was driving with my family in the car for a weekend getaway. we were on a three lane highway in slow moving traffic during a rainstorm when my front windshield wipers seized sticking in their vertical position. i had to cross over two lanes of highway in the middle of traffic with zero visibility to get to safety on the side of the highway. the wiper motor continued to run but the wipers didn't move. the dealerships assessment results were that the motor of the windshield wipers went bad but they could not offer me any explanation as to why or if it was normal. very dangerous for me and my family.

Driving on an interstate, posted speed limit is 70 mph, heavy rain and hail started, visibility become dramatically reduced, as did the speed of traffic. speed was reduced to around 10 mph when the wipers completely stopped! was able to pull over to the side of the road without incident thanks to the low speed. however, had this happened at 70 mph, wouldn't have been able to see the car in front of us, could have been a serious condition.

While driving in the highway at 65 mph it began to rain so i threw my windshield wipers on and the pieces of cheap [xxx] went flying all the way to the left off the [xxx] windshield. i nearly clipped another car in the side trying to get over to the shoulder because i was in a panic flurry due to not being able to see. once out of immediate danger i guided the wipers back to their home position and tried turning them on, nothing just a loud clicking noise and no movement. had to wait on side of hwy until the rain stopped to drive home. now i'm wondering how much chevy is going to charge me for this one! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

In may 2019 was driving home and it was raining and i had my wipers on and they just stopped for no reason. i turned them on and off a couple of times and it didn't help. thank goodness i was near home and didn't wreck due to the rain and no wipers. i figured it was a fuse and went to auto zone later for them to check it. they checked the fuses and said they were good that probably something had happened to the wipers transmission. i had never heard of this and checked online that it has been a recall in canada but they didn't do a recall in us. why i am not sure. i took my car to lawson chevrolet in greeneville tn to have it repaired and they told me the transmission had quit working on the wipers and it cost near $400.00 to have this fixed. i feel this is a very dangerous component to quit working because you would not have your wipers on if it wasn't raining an it does come down pours where you barely have visibility with your wipers on. i would like a recall to be done on this and to get my $400.00 back.

My winshield wipers just compleletly stopped working while driving in a heavy rainstorm.

Wipes stopped working when driving in the middle of a rain storm. this almost caused multiple accidents. this was on a city street in heavier traffic with many stops along the way. after doing a research of this problem, it appears this is a consistent problem with chevy equinox but only the 2013 has been recalled in us. in canada, they have all been recalled. this is a huge safety hazard that is clearly a manufacturer defect and should be addressed by gm. however, gm has failed to respond to multiple inquiries.

Driving on interstate wipers just stopped

Windshield wipers stop working mid rainstorm while driving. the motor is working and can be heard moving. once disassembled... the bushing that connects the wiper arms to the motor was busted. the dealership indicated this was a bad part on the car and not covered by any warranty. the dealership also indicated this was a problem on equinox 2009 - 2015 with a 2013 recall. windshield wipers are a required safety function and shall not malfunction during use. i was driving in a rainstorm taking my daughter to school on a major arterial street in maryland.

It seem that the windshield wiper transmission has a flaw in the design that causes the wiper to suddenly not work. instead of using screws and such to allow the wiper transmission to turn the wipers themselves, what was used was a ballpoint and some substance that sticks the joint of the part. the wipers stop functioning during when my mother was driving my vehicle (2012 chevy equinox) during the rain and had to pull over on the side of the road. luckily she was not on the highway where the rain could have caused a major accident(s).

Windshield wipers suddenly stopped in the middle of the windshield during snow and rain. vehicle was in motion on an expressway when this occurred.

While driving during a heavy thunderstorm my wiper blades stopped working. i barely made it to the shoulder because i almost crashed into a school bus.

Was driving during a winter storm raining hard in the middle of driving the windshield wipers stopped in the middle of clearing the rain i was on a busy highway and couldn't see was trying to get over to the side of the road when a truck pulled out in front of me and by luck spotted him at the last middle to slam on brakes. from what i understand this is happening alot to equinox owners. someone is going to get killed if this isn't recalled and fixed wasn;t a fuse so has to be the motor. this is being recalled in canada but not in the usa what are they waiting for someone to die!! it is very upsetting when they are aware of the defect but they do nothing about it .

1/4/2019 6:45 a.m. in a heavy rainstorm, in the dark, driving on the interstate at a high speed in the left-hand lane, i turned my windshield wiper speed to max. the wiper's stopped working. i lost complete visibility. i could hear the motor for the wipers moving but nothing worked. in an incredible panic, i tried to turn them on/off, to no avail. this was an incredibly dangerous situation and i had to think about what the left side of the road looked like from memory just so i could pull off without being hit/causing a multiple car accident, and without being killed. i had to navigate, with no visibility and managed to get off the road'a bit too far might i add. this in turn caused me to be stuck in the mud as i slide to a sudden stop. the tow and repairs cost me $625.87. i've done my research and i'm shocked to see so many similar complaints. sadly, had i wrecked my insurance would have made all repairs and potentially sued gm for restitution. why is there a recall to fix this in canada and not here in the us? gm should live up to its name and reputation and reimburse me this money for these repairs and should also immediately recognize this problem and do a recall. i am sure this has happened to so many others who were not fortunate enough, or willing to share this as i have. i wonder how many wrecks or injury's that have been caused due to this defect. is gm really the company they promote themselves to be?

The right head light side goes on and off, the stereo turnes off while listening to it and the signal lights don't work when the radio turns off on its own also the rear view camera turns off at the same time the radio does. the front and rear wipers don't always work. the engine lights comes on and off and the tire pressure sensor comes on and off. also engine oil consumption.

Exhaust cam shaft solenoid valve replaced 3 times within 1 year. cam shaft intake accuator replaced 1 time. engine check light came on while traveling on freeway. error code p0014/p0013 confirmed by dealership at time of repairs. recently had front windshield wiper transmission failed. also while traveling via freeway during a heavy rain storm this car has 58000 miles at this time and very well maintained.

While driving in heavy rain, windshield wipers failed on 2012 chevy equinox. dealer replaced broken wiper transmission assembly, broken off link near motor, installed part number 84241847, changed drain hole. 2013 is covered by recall in us, 2010 through 2016 is covered by recall in canada. nhtsa is investigating if 1.7million further model years should be included in recall - yes they should (same exact part number as 2013 model)!!! chevy charged me $253.78 for labor and material! 106k miles

Bought my 2012 equinox 9/2012. in february 2013 my suv made a loud noise and wouldn't start. had it towed to dealership and they replaced the motor. today when i was driving my vehicle showed "reduced engine power" and slowed to almost a stop. i made it home but not sure if it's driveable now. i'm a nurse and was in home health until this last year, so my vehicle has high mileage. 113,000. but even at that you'd think spending $23,000 on a new vehicle it would last longer then 5 years.

While driving in the city, wipers completely stopped working and had the car towed to a local garage, who repaired the problem by replacing complete wiper assembly and motor. motor separated from linkage. dealer was out of stock and had to order part since they sold 3 that day.

My windshield wipers completely stopped working as i was driving on a highway during a rain storm. i couldn't see anything out of my windshield and had to pull over immediately. it was raining hard and i couldn't even see well enough to get out of the road.

I contacted chevrolet in november 2018 about excessive oil consumption. my car is usually 2.5 quarts low by the time 3000 miles is driven from the last oil change & i am worried my engine will lock up. i do all routine maintenance and get regular oil changes and service. this model should not use that much oil between oil changes. now, since dealing with these other issues, when i come to a stop, it idles from about 700 down to 500 and it idles so low, my lights flicker & it sounds like it is going to cut off. my vehicle idles correctly when in park. it only idles roughly when in drive or reverse while at a stop. i contacted chevrolet again, via phone, and they tell me "unfortunately it's not part of the recall and repairs will be out-of-pocket" i am disappointed that chevrolet wont stand behind their products enough to recall and repair them as they should be. this problem started at around 114,000 miles. while this was all going on, the windshield wiper motor and transmission had to be replaced, which was also a recall, but not on my vehicle. i am so disappointed that chevrolet wont recall and repair my vehicle. this is definitely something that they should take care of. how many people complaining of the same issues before they do what they're supposed to so their customers are happy and their vehicles are in proper working and driving condition so they don't endanger others from faulty parts?! if my vehicle dies while driving down the interstate, that will cause problems for more than just me! i have emailed chevrolet 2 other times and have received no response. i'm so disappointed. i expected them to manufacture better quality motors than what these have turned out to be. it's sad it takes so many people to complain to actually get something done.

While driving on a busy highway, us rt 2, during a rain storm, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working. i was very fortunate to be able to get to a safe place to stop without being hit or hitting another vehicle. i purchased this vehicle only seven months ago with 60,000 miles it now has 68,000 miles. a mechanic that looked at the vehicle found that the wiper transmission had broken at the connection to the motor. .this was a very dangerous situation caused by the failure of a faulty part. i have attached the repair order.

Front windshield defrost not working, all air comes thru front and floor vents

On the highway in high speed lane in a pouring rain when the wilndshield wipers stopped working. i felt this was life threatening as i could not see. by thee grace of god i was able to make it to the breakdown lane without getting killed. i noticed there was a recall for this problem in canada but not in the us. i have owned many vehicles in my lifetime and never did i have a life threatening situation like this one. gm should recall these cars and repair this situation before someone is killed.

Tamata recall my 2012 chevy equinox windshield wipers went out as i was driving on backroads to work with low lighting and in a storm when my windshield wipers went out as i turned the speed up because it began to rain a lot more. the wiper just swung all the way up and off the windshield and would no longer work. i pulled over into closest neighborhood i could find and limped my vehicle home as slow as i could trying to see out of my car. thank god there was no traffic at ;am on my way to work or else i could have easily not been able to see with the lights and the rain with my wipers not working. after seeing a lot of youtube videos on the problem occur info in models from 2010-2016 i felt the need to file a report. the wiper linkages are held together with cheap plastic bushings that will fail instead of using longer lasting hardware like a short bolt and self locking nut to keep this from happening.

10-11-18 4:15 pm leavening the 43 on ramp for hyw54/57 in green bay wi. in a rain storm my wiper went complete out and i could not see to drive wiper motor went completely out
