The windshield wipers motor on the wipers stopped working while i was driving in the rain. the wipers were brand new and were the requested brand for this vehicle.
Windshield wipers suddenly stopped working while driving in a rain storm causing visibility to be reduced. research available shows this has been a common problem with this and other models of the equinox.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 55 mph with the windshield wipers activated, the wipers stopped in the upright position and failed to work. the contact called the local dealer (ewald chevrolet buick, 36833 e wisconsin ave, oconomowoc, wi 53066, (262) 567-5555) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 126,000. the vin was not available. *dt consumer stated front wiper motor/transmission were replaced.*jb
While driving at night on the expressway in a rainstorm, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped & got stuck while up, affecting visibility for the driver. the visibility was not only impacted by the wiper stuck in the upright position, but worse because of the rainstorm that we no longer had wipers to help with. it was a scary situation going down the highway at a high rate of speed and suddenly losing visibility because the windshield wipers quit operating. luckily we were able to safely pull over to the side of the road, trying to get the wipers to work again. we were able to put them down, but they would not operate. upon further investigation, it was determined that the wiper motor is working but that the wiper transmission had corroded in the ball joints, leading to the wipers becoming inoperable. furthermore, it was determined that while this issue is recalled in canada, only the 2013 models are recalled in the usa, though other years and models are also affected.
In a heavy rainstorm, driving on the highway, i turned my windshield wiper speed to max. the wiper's stopped working. i lost complete visibility. i could hear the motor for the wipers moving but nothing worked. in an incredible panic, i tried to turn them on/off, to no avail. this incredibly dangerous situation was handled at speeds of 50 mph in the fast lane. i had to navigate, with no visibility, over three lanes of rush hour traffic looking out my back window - as the only way to judge where i was on the road in a heavy downpour. the repair cost me $368. i've done my research and i'm shocked to see so many similar complaints. i thank my lucky stars that this was the only day i commuted without my kids. why is there a recall to fix this in canada and not here? chevy needs to recognize this problem and possible save lives with a recall, immediately. will not buy another chevy product.
Windshield wipers suddenly stopped working and were stuck in the upright position while driving on a city street during a heavy rainstorm. had to carefully drive to where i could get this repaired. this is definitely a safety issue. hoping it was only a burned out fuse, unfortunately it was the wiper transmission that went out. the replacement and labor cost was $364.31.
Driving on a busy hwy in a heavy rain storm and the wipers on high when they suddenly stopped working. extremely dangerous situation. unable to even see the edge of the road. horns blaring as cars and trucks passed within 3 inches of my side view mirror. general motors needs to address this problem now! before someone gets killed.
Driving on freeway in a heavy downpour when the wipers just quit working. can hear motor running but wiper not moving.
While highway driving during a thunderstorm, the windshield wipers running on the medium setting suddenly stopped functioning, causing viability loss. this made it unsafe to continue driving and difficult even changing lanes to pull to the shoulder. motor was still functioning. faulty part is the windshield wiper transmission. entire transmission was replaced. again today, during a flash flood warning rainstorm, wiper transmission failed while highway driving with wipers on high setting causing a complete visibility loss. almost caused an accident attempting to safely pull out of lanes of traffic. research indicating chevrolet has recalled this part in canada and replaced but not in the us
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving in inclement weather, the windshield wipers ceased to function. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (classic chevrolet, 6877 center st, mentor, oh) where it was diagnosed that the windshield wiper motor failed. the manufacturer was notified and the contact was informed of nhtsa campaign number: 16v582000 (visibility); however, the vin was not included. the contact asked the manufacturer why the vehicle was not included and was referred to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 57,000. the vin was not available.
Windshield wiper transmission broke. this is the 4th time since we got the car for my daughter. we will be replacing it again less than 3 months from the last time we replaced this part. this problem has become very costly and very unsafe for my daughter and grandson. my daughter was on her way home from work in the bad ice storm in michigan on 04/15/2018 and the wiper transmission broke for the 4th time. very unsafe and needs to be addressed by gm asap. i am tired of replacing this part every 3 to 4 months
There is currently a recall for wiper transmission corrosion which could cause the wipers to fail unexpectedly. the recall in canada only is for years 2010-2017 (25300-03: safety recall ' front wiper transmission corrosion failure (canada only) ' 2010-2017 chevrolet equinox & gmc terrain). there is also one in the us but it does not cover 2012, the year of my equinox (25302-01: safety recall ' front wiper transmission corrosion failure (usa only) ' 2013 chevrolet equinox & gmc terrain). my wipers recently failed due to this very issue on 4/2/2018 and the us recall should expand to cover the same years as the canadian recall. the car was thankfully in the process of going through pa state inspection and the wipers failed during a test drive.
On a snowy day, my wipers suddenly stopped functioning while driving on a local road. fortunately i was less then a mile from the house and was able to make it home. my mechanic replaced the wiper motor with a used unit but less than a month later during another snowy/icy day, the wipers broke again while driving leaving me temporarily stranded.. my mechanic jury rigged a bolt as an alternative to buying yet another wiper motor. i've never bother reporting this though i hear now this is a common issue and consider this to be a a completely unacceptable risk being a known condition.
Takata recall. yesterday (2/28/18) i was driving down the road in pouring down rain& the windshield wipers just stopped. you can hear the motor running but they will not move. the car was running and they had been working fine all day & then just stopped all of a sudden sudden making it to where i could not see while driving. ## vin passed ## 2012 cheverolet equinox ##
2012 chevy equinox was making a knocking noise took it to my mechanic. it was out of oil before my oil change was due. i had 1000 miles left before my oil change. this is the second time this has happened within 6 months. contacted gmc today got s case number but have to wait for it to happen again and take it to a gmc dealer for a diagnostic test. then today during a snow storm my windshield wipers just stopped working it was a mess trying to get home making frequent stops because of visibility.gmc said there are no recall for that or the oil consumption but i see so many complaints online about all these issues. not to add the paint in the inside of the car doors and trunk doors are rusting. this is my last gmc car going back to honda.
While driving at or around 30 mph on a city street a pop was heard in the back of the car. after parking, to assess what happened, the right quarter glass was found to have shattered, yet it stayed in the frame. two weeks prior, the car had been in a minor rear-end bumper collision which left minimal scratches
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving, both of the windshield wipers made a ticking noise and then failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to suburban chevrolet ((503) 668-5555, 36936 us-26, sandy, or 97055) where it was diagnosed that the ball joint needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure where it was confirmed that the vin was not included in a recall. the contact was provided case number: 8-3523338406. the failure mileage was 94,983.
I was going 60 mph on the highway in heavy rain and my wipers went off to the side of the windshield and stopped working, leaving me stranded on the shoulder of the highway. i was lucky that i made it to the shoulder. it was dark out in pouring rain with semi trucks all around me. this happened last night, so my car is still waiting for repair.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 55 mph, the windshield wipers stopped working. the vehicle was taken to hawks chevrolet in beesvile, illinois where the trans-motor was replaced in relation to the windshield wipers. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vin was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 70,000. the vin was not available.
On may 21, 2017 while driving straing down i-94 at 70mph in downpour the bushing on my windshield wiper transmission gave way, causing my windshield wipers to malfunction (windshield wiper arms flew off to the side of my car, windshield wipers would not engage in movement). my visibility was impaired requiring me to carefully navigate to the shoulder of the road (husband & 2 small children as passengers). i had to wait until the rain stopped to safely drive. my husband attempted to repair the problem by replacing it with a bushing from autozone. unfortunately, the replacement bushing also gave way & on friday, october 6, 2017 the event occurred again while driving 55mph on m-106. again, i had to pull of to the side of the road to wait for the rain to clear. we had service repair done at norm's automotive in south lyon where he replaced the entire transmission assembly ($400 in repairs). there is a recall on this same issue in canada, including ontario, with a work around that entails plugging a drain hole & drilling a new drain hole above the current location to prevent inclement whether from corroding the bushing on the windshield wiper transmission. general motors has determined that this issue is not "statistically significant" in michigan.
While driving he vehicle in a pouring rain the wipers stopped working and i had to swerve off the road because i was totally blinded by the rain and couldn't see. the problem was the wiper linkage transmission and it cost over $300 to replace. this part was recalled on 2011 and 2013 equinoxes and not 2012. the piece had corroded and part had fell off. please report this to chevy and recall for the 2012's please. very harrowing event when the wipers stopped.
It was raining very hard on a saturday afternoon, and the windshield wipers were on high. the driver was pulling the car into a parking lot when the wipers suddenly stopped mid-swipe. the wiper was left directly in front of the driver's line of sight. the driver parked and tried to push gently to get the wiper "unstuck", but eventually just pushed it to the wiper resting position. the wipers no longer move at all. we assume that the wiper gears broke or became seized while running, but we will not know until a mechanic looks at them. we need to wait until it is not raining to drive to the mechanic and get this issue fixed. if this happened on a highway or busy street, it could have been fatal. we understand there is already a 2013 chevy equinox recall for this issue. it should also be extended to the 2012 chevy equinox year we own.
The windshield wipers on my vehicle (vin #2gnaldek6c396483) stopped working when the wipers were moved to high speed. the dealership (northstar chevrolet in clifton park ny) replaced the wiper module (part #84241847) and plug (part # 15259076) on 06/07/2017. this issue seems to be consistent wit the recently announce recall of 2013 chevrolet equinox vehicles with windshield wiper issues. my vehicle was stationary in a parking lot when this occurred. weather conditions were heavy rain.
During a rainstorm, and while at highway speed, my front wipers failed. took car to dealer for repair, had corroded and broken wiper module repaired/replaced. was told that only the 2013 or later models were recalled even though this exact problem occurred on my 2012 model which the dealer was aware is the same part and issue. paid for the service but asking why this recall was not extended to other models when the same failure is occurring. filed a report with gm on this issue as well but no resolution on reimbursement for the repair. the issue nearly caused a highway speed accident and significant cost due to travel delays.

Driving on the highway during a rain storm my windshield wipers quit working. i had to pull off the next exit and wait for the rain to stop so i could clearly see. the dealer said that the wiper transmission needed to be replaced. there is some kind of recall but it did not involve my vin number. car has 90,000 miles.
Windshield wipers stopped working while driving on the highway during wind and rain storm. the mechanism that moves the wiper arms popped off the ball joint/socket on the wiper transmission. it was repaired, but now i have lost confidence in driving the car in the rain. luckily i was able to pull right onto the shoulder, but if i was on a road without a shoulder or in a middle lane in traffic, it could easily have resulted in a collision.

The front windshield side pillars are so wide near the side mirrors that it causes a foot wide blind spot which has caused me to be in an accident and almost several other accidents. i have heard that i am not the only one who has had a problem with this. this blind spot caused me to hit a pole while turning and pulling out of a parking area.
Wndshield wiper transmission failed during a heavy thunderstorm, wipers went limp and turning the wiper lever on and off did not help. fortunately the dealer just happened to have this item in stock, must be a regular problem with this car(?) the repair bill at van york chev was $340.83. could not proceed on until the rain stopped.
While driving on a highway in heavy rain storm wipers quit working with no warning. i had to slam on brakes and try to get off the road, almost went in a ditch. 2012 chevy equinox with 45000 miles.

Every time a small rock hits my windshield it cracks or chips. small sand or gravel even puts chips in the windshield. chevy has a history of using incorrect primer, so i am wondering if it is still an issue. i can visibly see over 10 chips in my windshield. *tr
