Problems with 2012 Chevrolet Equinox ENGINE

On average, the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 85 097 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

Numerous issues with engine since january 2017. reported initial problem in january 2017. january 2017 had rear main oil seal go out. there is a service bulletin for this #14882. i had to pay 1500 to repair. caused by excessive oil consumption but my vehicle is excluded from this service bulletin because of the vin number. same issue as other 2012 chevy equinox users. april 2017 - crankshaft seal goes out - leaking oil again - $2200 to repair. told by lafontaine dealership in dexter, mi that it was unrelated to rear main oil seal going out. may 2017 - recieve service bulletin in mail #16118 for excessive oil consumption. had just gotten oil changed with april 2017 repairs so held on to this just in case. august/sep 2017 - at light in town car starts to stall out. pull over immediately at the autozone and there is no oil. all gone. take to dealership. initiate excessive oil consumption test. first 1000 miles a little low, told to come back again in 1000 miles. i filed a complaint (2nd) with chevy about this issue and request it be escalated to supervisor or another level. october 2017 - car fails excessive oil test (using too much oil!!) gets gaskets replaced. band-aid fix. october/november - gm tells me they won't reimburse me for anything. customer service was rude and wouldn't even escalate to the next supervisor. november 2017 - i contact vijay iyer who is in a leadership position for gm out of detroit global customer experience director searching for help from someone. he tries to help but forwards everything over to executive customer servie department. they are just as bad as the mid-level department. refuse to reimburse. complaints filed with nhtsa and ftc!! contact the ftc and file about this issue or it won't get looked at. pleaseeeeee.

Car had an oil change and new tires put on at belle tire in grand blanc mi. three days later my daughter (rachelle sly) was at a red light and the car just stopped. being close to a midas muffler she managed to get it to restart and go there (less than 500 feet). they put the car up in the air and said there was oil all over the bottom of the car. we decided to have it towed back to belle tire since they changed the oil originally. they said it had to be towed to al serra grand blanc mi. by that time the car wouldn't even start.. al serra originally said it was a bad rear seal. everything escalated to needing a full new engine. there was a bulletin (no.14882) on the 2012 equinox ltz but when we put her vin in it did not come up. she had approx 140,000 miles at the time of this incident but had a previous complaint when she was within the required mileage of 120,000 or 10 years per the bulletin no:14882. at that time it was documented of the very complaints. it is cold in mi at this time which is mentioned in the bulletin.at the time of her first complaint al serra changed the catalytic converter which seemed to help. she purchased the car from al serra in june 2015 and the nothing was sent to her or disclosed to her. bulletin came out in march of 2015 (three months earlier/prior) she drives a long way to and fro work but does not hot rod this vehicle . she gets all maintenance/oil changes etc.it is dangerous that this condition was not brought to her attention, if you google the condition it is a well documented problem that gm should fix and or notify people of, now in addition to spending over $20,000.00 0n this car it cost $5,444.00 to get a new engine!

; 2010-2014 chevrolet equinox; special coverage adjustment this special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. dealers are to perform a crankcase pressure check, and if required, remove the intake manifold and clear the pcv orifice. the repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. for vehicles covered by vehicle service contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after march 4, 2015, are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. claims with repair orders prior to march 4, 2015, must be submitted to the service contract provider. this is from service bulletin 14882. as a result of the frozen pcv, my wife was nearly killed. the vehicle stopped instantaneously on the highway in the center lane after previously being at 74mph. semi tractor trailers nearly ran her over. highway patrol came to the rescue since her vehicle could not be completely removed from traffic. it came to rest partway on the shoulder and partway on the highway. when we had the vehicle towed to the local chevy dealership, they agreed that it matched identically to this service bulletin. then, when they checked the vin, gm said that our vin was not included. this seems totally wrong. if needed you can obtain the highway patrol report from the missouri highway patrol. this happened on sunday january 8, 2017. my wife is [xxx] for reference. it occurred around 3pm central standard time without notice. the rear oil seal blew out and the motor ceased instantaneously without warning. *tr

In january 2017, experienced stalling and smell of fuel/oil throughout vehicle. towed to dealer and was told rear oil seal was leaking oil and needed replacement. charged 1500 dollars. on april 12th, 2017 during routine repairs for brakes, was told oil leaking again. took back to dealership and was told that it is leaking from a different area but it is related to the rear oil seal leak. further investigation shows that these vehicles have known gasket and seal issues leading to engine failure but gm/chevy has not recalled. they issued a service bulletin in march 2015 #14882 but my vin number is not included in this bulletin even though vehicle is exactly the same as the other people who are included. gm and chevy not willing to help me and i am terrified to drive my vehicle.

Purchased this vehicle 2 years ago. it has under 50k miles and seemed to be in good condition. currently it is at 65k miles and has experienced these issues: -stalling at intersections or stop signs a total of 6 times. taken in multiple times for this issue. - wheel grinding and bucking when stoping of turning right. also taken in multiple times to dealer - electrical system failure identical to the prior year model recall. the electrical system that houses the heating system and the radio has stopped working. none of the buttons are lighting up at all. you can not turn on the heat or defrost causing s visibility hazard. the radio it's self does work but you have to operate it from the steering wheel. the 2011 models had the same exact issue and were recalled. i feel this model should be included since the issue is the same. no alterations or have been done to the console. everything is still as it was when purchased from the dealer

I went to have my oil change and there is gas in the oil

Massive oil consumption especially in cold weather i have used a quart in 356 miles oil light never comes on even with it being 2 1/2 quarts low running out of oil can cause the engine to seize loosing all power and possibly causing an accident

Tire pressure( every week need air pressure),power steering( light on say check) , cod#p0010 (ing light on) ing off alone...

With 1350 miles on this oil change i just added 2.5 quarts of oil to bring it up to full level

My 2012 chevrolet equinox, equipped with a 2.4l engine, is exhibiting excessive engine oil consumption less than 1,000 miles per quart of engine oil. i continue to take my car to the chevrolet dealership because i constantly hear an audible rattle or knock from my engine. it sounds like i am driving a diesel truck. the engine oil pressure light never comes on to let me know that the oil is low as to not burn out my engine. the oil pressure light never comes on. the car slows down to an almost complete stop in the middle of the highway while the speed limit is 70 miles an hour. at this rate, i could be killed or someone else. the dealer is stating i can continue to add oil or replace the engine for 7,000. i have maintained this car since its purchase and only went to chevrolet dealership, there is no way i should have to replace an engine. why is there not a recall on this issue? this is a safety concern and gm should be fixing this problem and not allowing its consumers to continue to deal with this issue when they are acutely aware there is a problem. i had to go online and research this information myself. i was never notified that such an issue existed by gm or the gm dealership. why has the nhtsa not forcing gm to issue a recall in this matter? when i look back at my receipts, i have been having problems since 2016 and was never notified of an issue with this suv. i have been paying so much money for issues that could have been prevented.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving, the engine warning indicator illuminated. the engine oil was changed; however, the engine warning indicator remained illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the timing chain failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the repair was no longer covered under warranty. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

My children and their friend were driving back to school for a forgotten item. they stopped for a red light and the car stalled out. my son (18), told car behind to go around (luckily, they did not get rear ended). he put car in park, turned car off, and restarted it, and was able to get to destination. fast forward approx a week later, the car is hesitating, and engine light comes on. my son took it for an oil change to see if that was the problem. the attendant said that when checking the dip stick before starting, the dip stick was bone dry! that's weird...we have had no oil leaks on our driveway, to be alerted that there is a problem. why would the car be burning up oil that there would be none in the resevoir? so now, i guess we will need to monitor it, but i see other people have documented similar issues. my son (18) uses this car a lot. it seems like this is an abnormal issue with the vehicle. i don't understand why gm hasn't looked into this already. i hope it does not take something bad to happen before it is looked into. it is scary enough to be at a red light and have your car stop working. please, someone take notice. consumers pay a lot of money to drive their vehicles. don't turn a blind eye to a potential problem. what is more cost effective, looking into the problem and fixing it or lawsuits after the fact. be proactive....please.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while reversing into a parking space, the vehicle shook and stalled. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

Goes through 4 quarts of oil between oil chages which are done every 3 thousand miles. oil light does not come on when you are 3 quarts low.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the camshaft positioning sensor failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

The vehicle is consuming high rates of oil every 500-1000 miles. it is not notifying me the oil needs to be replaced. the car will make a rough noise or lurching sound while driving.

This car uses excessive oil. i drive several miles a day. i have mentioned this to the local dealer and they gave me a list of items to "fix" which cost several thousand dollars. i have to monitor my own oil because the oil light does not come on when it is real low. it does come on when it is time for the oil to be changed. i have owned several chevrolet vehicles but this one has caused me the most problems. i have called and there does not appear to be a recall or legitimate explanation as to why the car uses so much oil. i do not have a leak on the ground.

I have tried contacting gm multiple times to no avail. i have contacted you all previously to no avail. this is my last hope. i'm going to keep complaining until something is done. my vehicle has an excessive oil consumption issue. it started around 60k miles and has just rolled over the 80k mile mark this week. in the beginning, my vehicle began making this knocking sound so i took it to a local shop to have it checked out. it was completely dry of oil. it was no yet due an oil change and i had had the vehicle for just over a year prior to this. i am now putting a quart of oil in my vehicle per week. i've been told that gm are called years 2010 and 2011 and "some" 2012's unfortunately mine was not one of the "some." - this is a gm manufacturing issue that needs to be addressed. how is it even remotely possible to issue a recall for some and not all. i've been told that if i pay $2000 to have the issue fixed, someday if there is a recall, i'll be reimbursed. as the mother of a child with multiple medical bills, shelling out $2000 for their crappy manufacting is unacceptable for me and it's totally unacceptable. my next step is better business bureau. please give me some insight. i'm at the end of my rope. i have to keep oil in my vehicle at all times, and i'm terrified that my engine will blow while i'm out with my son in it.

Out of nowhere, i get an alert stating 'reduced engine power' and 'service stabilitrak' off. i cannot go over 30 mph and the engine has trouble holding power. several weeks prior to this message, i would feel a light engine sputter, bt the engine would then kick back into gear. this happens on the interstate and on city streets. apparently this is incredibly common on a lot of chevrolet vehicles as evidence on the equinoxforum blog.

Excessive oil consumption. causing engine failure. wife going to work and her vehicle stopped running. got it to the local dealership and found out it had no oil in it. was told those engines use oil and gm is aware of problem and not fixing the problem. being the vehicle is still under there 100000 mile warranty i thought it should be fixed now questions asked but said it was covered in would think that would be a safety issue giving vehicle could break down on a busy highway and run the risk of someone getting hurt

My equinox has stalled several times while at low speeds. today it happened while turning into a park spot, it stalled once at a red light. the engine completely shuts down and i have to put the car in park and restart it. the dealership can't get me in till next week. sometimes a check engine light comes on and sometimes it doesn't, it also using a lot of oil!!! gm needs to step up and fix this issue it is a huge safety concern. we shouldn't have to pay for this because it isn't normal wear and tear. there are thousands of complaints for this same issue out there.

Around 60,000 miles, i noticed there was an excessive oil consumption issue with my vehicle. i tracked it for a while, only to find its using a quart of oil every 800-1000 miles. i took it to a local chevrolet garage and they informed me that this is a common issue with the equinox. that it is the pistons and rings in the engine that need to be replaced and cost is about $2000. they also informed me that gm recalled 2010-2011 and some 2012, unfortunately mine isn't one of the "some." i've called gm twice about the issue. the second time, the customer service rep asked me what i was expecting from them because if there's no recall, there's nothing they can do about it. if there's a recall for some, there should be a recall for all. as i'm sure i'm not the only person in this predicament. the consumer stated the oil intially needed to be replaced every 1200 miles. the oil then escalated to needing to be replaced every 400-500 miles. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and was able to be restarted. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.

Around the time frame of may, 2016 i began to notice that my 2012 chevrolet equinox with a 2.4l ecotec started having a knocking noise from the engine while idling. the mileage at this point in time was around 99k miles. at the same time that the knocking began, i noticed the check engine light came on. i went to an auto zone to check my oil levels, and realized that the dip stick showed the oil was much lower than it should have been. i went inside and purchased dexos 5w30 oil per the owner's manual and added 1 qt to it. additionally, i noticed after i took the oil cap off that there was smoke coming from inside. per the owner's manual, the gm oil life monitor system uses an algorithm that analyzes your driving activity, temperature outside, and several other factors to determine when the oil needs changed. according to this system i was at roughly 70% oil life. the system states that the oil only needs to be changed within 600 miles of the low oil life alert coming on, this doesn't happen until you get around 15%. at this point i began monitoring my oil consumption much more closely and carried oil on me at all times. as time has gone by, i've noticed the car is burning oil quicker, and as of my most recent oil change in february of this year, we began doing oil consumption tests per gm tsb # 13-06-01-003h that explains this issue. the tsb notes that it covers my make and model, but my vin does not come up as being covered up to 120k miles for this repair. i have had a dealer tell me that the fix listed in the tsb is what needs to be done, but that it will cost $3.4k. many other models with the same engine are covered but mine isn't. my car has since started stalling when it is idling at low rpm's, specifically on 3/22/17 it stalled twice while in a drive-through.current mileage today is 118.6k and the 2 oil consumption tests show burning up to 1 qt per 1k miles.

Bought used and then started noticing oil disappearing. took to dealer, oil consumption test done, dealer says normal use. no help from the dealer at all. consumption got worse, went from 2 quarts to 4 quarts between oil changes. in the meantime had to replace catalytic converter and a cracked exhaust manifold and now have a check engine light indicating o2 sensor problem, gas mileage dropping too. after researching, these problems seem to be caused by the oil use issue. engine probably needs new rings and pistons($2500 at the dealer) but other internal damage may be present so cost may be even more. i found on the internet that gm had extended warranty for this issue but only up to 7 yrs or 120k miles. so, i am out of luck and dealer did not mention this as this started while still under 120k miles. consulted a honest mechanic friend and he says it would be cheaper to replace the engine. he quoted $1800 for engine and labor, turn key job, with a one year warranty on everything. i trust him. only choice is to replace engine or get rid of the car.

The engine has been serviced multiple times with no long-term fixes. there are at the moment 127000 miles on the car and i have just been told along with the known issue of the engine eating oil the rod holding the pistons in place is having problems. i have spent almost as much on this engine as it would cost to replace. the engine shakes the car, is loud while idle and has the tendency to jar on the highway. i have not even had this vehicle over 2 years and i purchased from a chevy dealership thus furthering why i am not impressed and plan to never buy one again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle shook uncontrollably and the engine indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was driven to a mechanic and repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 114,000.

July 10, 2015: i took my 2012 chevy equinox lt (2.4 l 4 cyl) to a chevy dealership in ky. the vehicle was at 100,505 miles and i wanted it checked before driving on vacation due to the high mileage, a rough idle and because it had recently shut off while backing out of a parking lot. a gm goodwrench multi-point vehicle inspection was performed. i was told the car showed no sign of any issues but i would need to purchase new tires before winter. by dec 2015 the rough idle had gotten much worse, the vehicle was loud (almost sounding like a diesel), would jerk and felt like it may shut off any time i had to stop or drive slower speeds. additionally, the car would "slip" as it was shifting gears so i took it back to the dealership on dec 8, 2015. the car was at 115,720 miles. the transmission, #2 cylinder, spark plug and coil were replaced and a throttle body cleaning service was performed. since then, the car has idled high revving to 4,000+rpm at times before it will shift into higher gears (particularly when driving 70+mph on the interstate). downshifting to lower gears doesn't always go smooth either. the rough idle has returned and progressively gotten worse. the car almost shut off while backing out of a parking lot on feb 13, 2016. yesterday (feb 15, 2016), the car shut off while i was driving! there were no lights illuminated prior to it shutting off. i coasted to the side of the road, re-started the car and finished the final (~3) miles to work. i had the car towed from work back to the dealership. the dealership said there was no oil on the dipstick (the oil life sensor showed ~25% life left on oil) and i was told the car was 2 qts low on oil. the car remains at the dealership as of today, feb 16, 2016. there are a lot of similar complaints about this on www.arfc.org. this vehicle needs to be recalled before someone gets hurt or dies!

Purchased vehicle used in 2013 with 28k miles. started noticing an engine knock in 2016, in between oil changes, @ apprx. 85k miles. began having to add 3-4 quarts of oil every 1000 miles, give or take. called dealership for service - while warranty was still in effect - and was told it was a common problem with this engine, and adding oil was all that needed to be done. while dealing with that, had to replace the sensor, as vehicle stalled while in a left turn lane, which almost caused me to be rear ended. december 2016 - oil continued to be burned at an alarming rate, so my husband contacted a friend who works for a chevy dealer. we were told not only is the massive oil consumption not normal, but that gm is fully aware of the problem, but refusing to issue a recall or pay to have the pistons replaced! 2017 - have continued to add 2-4 quarts of oil every 1000 miles or so; then may 2017, received notice from gm acknowledging the piston ring wear/excessive oil consumption, but that it's only repairable within 7 years 6 months of original in-service date, or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first! seriously?! i am past both & am pissed off! gm has known about this problem for years, and needs to take full responsibility, not impose a year/mileage cap! i wonder if a class-action lawsuit would wake them up? i'm not opposed to looking into it! don't get me wrong - previous to my equinox, i owned an hhr for 11 years, and prior to that, a suburban for 5 years. i like my chevy's but this issue has left a bad taste for them, and am totally unimpressed with their lack of concern regarding this issue. for those of us that are past the very convenient years/miles, this is a very expensive out of pocket repair. i can't even trade it in, as i still owe on the [xxx] loan!! step up gm, & do the right thing! by the way - hubby is replacing the timing chain today :o[ information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *js *tr

Purchased vehicle used with 64000 miles aug 24th, 2015. after about 2 weeks the car stalled while backing out of a parking spot. re-started it and it stalled again. happened again in late sept, once in oct and again in nov. dealer replaced faulty intake solenoid 11-13-15. leaving for work on jan 19th and noticed oil leak (no low oil light). drove straight to dealership. 1/4 mile out my engine light comes on saying reduced engine power, drops me to 30 mph. get to dealership and it's a blown rear seal. replaced loose timing and balance shaft chain, water pump, coolant flush ( i paid for) abs light came on, so sensor was found to be "open" also found chunk of magnet missing from wheel bearing. car in shop for 9 days. picked up on 1-28-16. stalled again 4 x on 2-4-16. returned to dealership to have camshaft actuator replaced. stalled again 2-7-16 and 2-8-16. returned to dealership on 2-8-16. no word from them yet. the car has left me in the middle of an intersection turning left twice!! i could be killed by driving this vehicle. i have researched online and have found 1000's of people dealing with this same issue. several have had the vehicle stall while traveling 70 mph on the freeway!! the issues exists on 2010, 2011 and 2012 models. gm needs to take responsibility for the issue that no one seems to know how to fix. does someone have to die before gm will deal with this issue?? these vehicles are also known for burning excessive amounts of oil. when i took it in for an oil change, they noted it was a quart low. still no low oil light ever came on. one article i read said the issue is caused by a coating that was sprayed inside the camshaft during production is now leaking into the fuel/oil causing metal fragments and dirt to be in the oil.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the fuel pump and timing chain failed. the contact stated that the oil pressure sensors failed prior to the other failures. the contact also stated that the vehicle consumed an abnormal amount of oil. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. the vehicle was repaired. the contact also stated that the pistons and rings were replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000.

Problem began at the beginning of the month when my vehicle stalled on the highway during rush hour traffic..luckily i was not hit or killed. the issue is with the engine and high oil consumption. i took it to the dealer and they ran the test and i now have to take the car back 2 more times to prove the pcv has to be replaced. meanwhile i have to keep 2 quarts of oil in the car and check every 1000 miles to ensure oil lever is proper so car won't stop. i'm a single parent with a 2 year old and this "condition" with the vehicles is dangerous. shame on gm for not placing a recall out and just doing the repair across the board. i am literally afraid to drive this car but stuck with it cause it is my only car and who can afford a new one. i have had 2 oil changes or top offs this month alone and a week ago i had to add a quart so the car wouldn't stall. this is ridiculous! chevy is about to lose a customer in me. signed - scared single mom in houston, tx

My motor blew due to a oil leak and seized in the middle of traffic i owned the car for 37 days and i owe 18k on it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving various speeds, a knocking noise was heard coming from the engine without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a failure with the piston ring, which caused excessive oil consumption. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received an extended warranty notification for the engine. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not covered under the extended warranty due to excessive mileage. the failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

While driving in traffic my car idles ruff and wants to stall. when i press on the gas to keep it from stalling - it jumps. this happens whit speeds ranging from 5-25 mph. my car often stalls while reversing. i had the cam shaft replaced and the problem continues to happen. i have to pay a $130.00 diagnostic charge just for them to tell me they can not find anything work with the car. please have someone look into this issue - there appears to be numerous complaints about the same issue. my concern is that i will stall on a major highway with my kids in the car. this started in 10/2015 and still continues to happen.

Purchased with 38,000 miles. at 43,000 the check engine light came on. i went directly to dealership. less than 5 miles away. they took it in, came out and said i was 4quarts low on oil.??????? was told normal was 1 qt every 1000 miles. no way would i believe that. have been doing. excessive oil use test.waiting fo gm now . they did do a recall on 2010 equinox with same problem changed rings on it we will see

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while the vehicle was idling, there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine. the vehicle accelerated, but the abnormal noise continued. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain belt needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 48,000. ma 10/25/15 the consumer stated the vehicle consumed more oil than it should between oil changes. updated 05/09/16.*jb

Oil consumption 4000 miles bone dry. when stop at a light, backing up the car stalls out. i had it in the shop twice. now doing an oil consumption test. i only have 45000 miles on my 2012 chevrolet equinox. started having problems around 39,000 miles also am reading this problem is affecting a lot of equinoxs. someone is going to get killed in an accident!!!!!!!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the air conditioner failed to function and the center console became inoperable. all the warning lights on the instrument cluster illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 43,968.

The car started to sound like an old jalopy, after having the car checked out it was determined that the timing was off and it was burning massive amounts of oil without the engine oil light coming on. the injectors are clogged and the engine is all clogged up, so it's messing with the timing belt. it's been 2 month since i took it into the shop and it's looking like the engine needs rebuilt or replaced, a complete piece of junk 3 years old never any warning from the car about low oil or the manufacture it's a travesty.

Car stalled, restarted but stalled again, restarted and staid running by keeping foot on gas pedal and brake pedal. this kept happening for two days then went away. problem came back on 08/14/2015. will check with dealer.

I was driving about 20 miles per hour when all the gauges on the dash board went crazy. the eco fuel economy light was flashing on and off, the stabili trak lights appeared on the dashboard without me even touching the button, the speedometer and engine coolant temperature gauge were going up and down eradically. the check engine indicator then appeared on the dash board. i stopped at a red light, when i went to step on the accelerator, i had no power. the accelerator was pushed to the floor and i was going about 5 miles and hour. all the above was still happening on the dashboard. the ac was now blowing warm air. it smelled like something was burning. this happened three times. in the end the speedometer wasn't working. i reached somewhere safe and parked the car. i went to shift the car into drive and there was a hard loud clunking noise. this only happened when the car was shifted into drive. my husband took the car to auto zone where they printed out the codes appearing for the check engine indicator. ( p069e, p0700, u0073, u0100) the battery in the car has also been replaced with a new one twice. it has been towed to the dealership twice due to not starting the next day after it has been driven the day before and working normal. we took the car to the chevrolet dealership. they understood what had happened. that evening they called us back saying, " we can't duplicate the problem, so everything is fine." we lost our mind and told them to keep the car at the dealership until they could duplicate the problem becuase the car isn't three years old and shouldn't have these problems. further, the car isn't safe!! we read blogs where this is common with the equinox and indicated that to the dealership. the car is still at the dealership.

Was backing out of parking space and car cut off two days in row and sometimes when driving car feels like it jerking then like it's losing power

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000. the vin was unavailable.

Excessive oil consumption....one quart every 500 miles and low oil lamp does not come on even if three quarts low. poor engine design has been noted but no recall. i wonder how many of these engines have die as a result of no oil? what are we to do? this has been an ongoing issue for several years and has been documented by others.

While driving down i-96 in michigan at mile 62, i felt an explosion under my feet. there was a large cloud of black smoke followed by flames underneath and out the back of the vehicle. i pulled to the side of the road, ran to safety while watching the vehicle burn underneath. the air draft from passing traffic extinguished the fire. qualified technicians at our local chevrolet dealer have told us there is a golf-ball size hole and a softball size hole in the engine in addition to numerous issues resulting from the fire (melted fuel and brake lines, charred and bubbled paint and melted plastic parts, etc.) although this is covered by gm warranty and their investigation "totaled" the car , customer service has not offered assistance that will cover replacement of this vehicle. *tr

Hi, my 2012 equinox stalled on me while i was in reverse. i was backing out a drive way and it started to jerk. after jerking it did eventually go in gear. once i put it in drive i drove no less then a mile and the car cut off. i turn it back on and put it back in drive and it stalled out again. that was the first incident it happen a second time on 5/2/15. while driving my car was jerking when at a stop light and then it stalled out on me again. am not sure why this is happening considering i do have regular maintenance done on my car. if this is a known issue please let me. thanks *tr
